HAPPY MONDAY EARLY BIRD BOOKS DAY!! So far, there’s already one by Melanie Harlow that sounds so exciting!
THREE THINGS:
1.) I’m on a decorating spree!! It always takes me awhile in a new house to get a feel for it. Looking at the same walls everyday, and wishing I had some *ooomph* eventually spurs me into action. π And off I went to Home Goods & Home Sense to turn my “sterile” look into a more cozy look. I love it, and it’s true that shopping can be therapy in a way. Decorating too! Garden things, living room things, kitchen things… bathroom things. Everything is coming together nicely. P.S. I bought these small vases on Amazon to fit in a small cubicle space of shelving in my TV cabinet. They fit perfectly and match the colors of my house 100%. Very cute!
2.) There are a few pieces of furniture, like a sort of cabinet/buffet type thing with glass doors and maybe even the top hutch display part (though less that, for me) that I’m thinking of. My issue is that I’m a minimalist at heart, so I’m not sure if I “need” extra pieces like that. I have the room and lots of big empty walls… and it might serve as an interest piece or brighten up an area that is rather bland right now… I wish I was a designer. I’m also really bad at figuring out wall pieces (like art). Unless done by a designer, I often find art on walls looks out of place, or mis-sized or misaligned and has that random “art on walls” just for the sake of art-on-walls feel, and that’s what I’m trying to avoid.
3.) I finished yet another horror/emotional book (Mary: An Awakening of Terror) that has great editorial reviews (I saw it on my Facebook feed from a reader that LOVED it). Readers love it, due to the “depth” of the explored subject, and a social commentary of sorts on middle aged and aging women. *sigh* It was… just okay for me. It wasn’t scary in the least, and I’d say I enjoyed the social commentary more but it was a book that seemed to never end, with no real big “twist” (well… there was one, but I was forcing myself to finish it, so when the twist happened I was all… meh). Review to come, but I’d say it’s 3 stars for me at the most.

I love big pieces of furniture and big paintings, even in small spaces. The best trick I’ve learned for walls is to hang your favorite piece in the place you want it most (I have a mermaid print in the center of our living room between 2 windows and I centered it not only between the windows but also between the ceiling and the top of the buffet it’s hanging over), then hang your other art accordingly, using the center of the main piece as a guide. As in, make sure the center of each piece (no matter the size) is at the same level all around the room. Obviously there are exceptions; I have one tall wall that has a painting over the doorway and a staircase wall that has paintings along the incline. I also agree with not hanging art just for the sake of it. My FIL was a painter and I have many of his early pieces, some much better than others, but all meaningful to me. I also have one my aunt did for my dad that, god bless her, is a good effort lol, but I love it and have it hung prominently. For me, it’s more important to have a connection to the art, regardless of how “good” it is.
I love that. Connection. We have three very large beautiful pieces (I’d venture to say huge) from artist K.Scott (all ocean/offshore fishing themes) ’cause my man and his kids LOVE to spear fish and just regular fishing overall – they are very Florida boating and all that. On my own, I wouldn’t have chosen these pieces, but I’ve decided to have an ocean/beach theme going on as decor and colors, BECAUSE of the paintings.
I just don’t like how they are placed. We have an immense wall that 2 are on, and I just wish we could do more of a pattern with all three together – group them, on that wall, rather than randomly being on two different walls. And the two on that wall aren’t even in a unified position, so now I’m trying to find another way to unify them.
He just wants to look at one while he watches TV since it’s his favorite, so I’m thinking of putting the hutch thingie underneath it…
I dunno… art on walls really is hard.
I wish I could see yours.
These are mine right now:

Those are great! How big are they? If they’re smaller, I’d definitely suggest grouping them together. And I’m all for furniture to anchor them, too.
I’ll message you mine.
