Happy Monday!! It’s a pretty short list of earlybirds today, but I suspect “back to school” week has a lot to do with it. 😉 Still though, I found a few that sound awesome like that one to the left. UNREQUITED LOVE!! HE doesn’t want her… OH YES!!!! But first…
THREE THINGS:
1.) My canary is officially at my house, and I’ve been giggling watching all of his antics, and spoiling him! I LOVE him!!! His name is Birdy. I think? It’s just what I call him. Sometimes I call him “PeepPeep”. And boy does he sing!!! I decked out his cage with cool feeders, and perches and a toy that he actually plays with. He loves taking baths, and he loves his treats (so far, yes to cucumber, broccoli and blueberries – but a big fat no to strawberries and raspberries). Who doesn’t like red berries?? *shakes head*
2.) I took a nap on Saturday afternoon, and birdy noticed, and sang super-softly…. the entire time. Like to lull me to sleep? Or just not to wake me? CUTEST THING EVER!!
3.) I squirreled from War at the 70% mark a couple of weeks ago (she was making me mad… LOL!!! I just couldn’t with her, anymore. 😉 And I wanted a contemporary romance for just a bit..) but went back to War last night and finished it last night and it actually turned out to be fabulous!! I ended up loving it, and the end was amazing. I surrendered. 😉 Review is coming up!!
LOOK WHAT JUST WENT LIVE !!!
- Love at First Sight (Southern Bride Book 1) by Kelly Elliott <— KELLY ELLIOTT UNREQUITED LOVE ALERT!! HE DOESN’T WANT HER!!! “…When I work up the courage to tell Rip I love him, I am met with rejection. He tells me he treasures our friendship too much. That statement might as well be a knife to my heart. I want to hold out hope that he’ll change his mind. Instead, he moves on. The only choice I have is to pretend that doesn’t slay me. So, I say yes…to the man I love. But he isn’t the man I’ve been in love with nearly my entire life…”
- Mr. August: A Student/Teacher Romance (Calendar Boys Book 8) by Nicole S. Goodin <— TEACHER-STUDENT ALERT!! “…Perry Jenkins. University student. Natural beauty. … And crushing on her teacher. From the moment Liam and Perry lock eyes, sparks fly. Liam never expected a woman to make him look twice, let alone one that would turn up in the front row of his class. Perry’s focus has always been to graduate with top marks, but she’s finding herself distracted by her sexy, off limits professor...”
- Their Cartel Princess: The Complete Series: A Dark Reverse Harem Box Set by Logan Fox <— REVERSE HAREM SERIES BUNDLE ALERT!! “…Cartel princess, Cora Swan, has just been betrayed by everyone she ever trusted. Now she has powerful enemies after her, dangerous men out for blood. Her blood. The only thing stopping them are her guardians: Finn, Lars, and Bailey. They’re not gentle. They’re not kind. Yet she finds herself drawn to their darkness, their power, and their desires. Her guardians are willing to give their lives for her, but in return, they want Cora to be theirs, and theirs alone...”
- Rules of a Rebound (Breakup Bash Book 2) by Nina Crespo <— SHE GOES TO A “BREAKUP PARTY” FOR SINGLES... “…bartender Rome Collier is drawn to the woman easily trading sexy banter with him. And if she wants the “Do Me” condoms she accidentally throws across the counter at him, she’ll have to claim them…personally. Their flirtation turns into so much more, and every scintillating night they spend together is better than the last…”
- The Nanny Rules by Melinda Price <— SINGLE FATHER FOOTBALL STAR & HIS NEW NANNY ALERT!! “...I’m not thrilled to come home and find the woman has taken over my house. Our instant attraction is one more complication I don’t need in my life. But my daughter loves Amelia, and I will do anything for that tiny munchkin…”
- Something Greater by Astrid Jane Ray <— DYSTOPIAN ALERT!! “…The world of Elena Starks is the one of stolen peace and denied freedom. She is one of the many defenseless Sariyan girls caught in the middle of a raging war fought by men. Ever since she was a little girl, she has known the hurtful truth: Nyrma is a country she was born in, but could never call her own. Good morning! Happy Monday! ❤️️☀️
Three things:
1) I am LOVING Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker! In the past, the H/h are counselors at summer camp in an opposites attract/forbidden-y love kind of thing, and in the present, 13 years later…well, I don’t want to give anything away, but the entire book is giving me the wonderful tummy twisting angst feelings from several years ago that I feel like have been missing from my romance reading of late (which is probably why I’ve been reading so many more mystery/thrillers). I’m at 52% and don’t want it to end!
2) I finished listening to Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris and Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. Narration was wonderful on both. Behind Closed Doors was deliciously demented–5 stars; Sometimes I Lie was twisty turny, but the end had so many revelations that it got a bit muddled for me, which brought it down to 4 stars. Still, I recommend both! I’m getting back to listening to The Last Romantics by Tara Conklin today.
3) I’m pretty sure I broke two toes on the foot of my broken leg this weekend. My foot got caught in a bag of clothes in my laundry room and I went down fast. My leg is fine, but my big and 2nd toes are black and blue and oh so painful, so the stinking limp is back.🙄 Needless to say, I scared the crap out of hubs (and myself).
Maryse–are you still reading Gretchen? I’m wondering how it is as far as keeping the reader’s interest in a form other than audio book.
Oh no! I hope your toes and leg heal quickly!
I have one word to say “Bubble Wrap”……
On a more serious note, I’m very glad you’re ok. I’m sure it scared all of you when you went down….
I felt the same way about Sometimes I Lie as you said…and I hope you enjoy The Last Romantics…I was a fan!
I’m on the wait list for Say You Still Love Me….
Nay!! Didn’t you just have a broken leg? GASP!!!!
Omg! I hope they heal quickly! My toes curl just imagining it. 😬 Those darn piles- 😜
I’m okay. Just sore. The main reason it happened is because I still can’t entirely bend the leg I broke, so it didn’t go up high enough to clear the bag. I’ll be good as new in a few days. 😬
I just finished Say You Still Love Me. OMG!!! I loved it. A couple of things tripped me up toward the end (just personal feelings about certain things), but it’s still a huge 5 stars for me! I’ve seen mixed reviews, and from what I can tell, being able to personally connect with this story is a huge plus. Of course, you don’t have to have gone to summer camp to love it, but I happen to be one of the ones who did, and it brought back some great memories!
I LOVE THAT AUTHOR!!!!!!!!!!!
NAY ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? *throws up hands* SIT!! JUST SIT DOWN AND STAY DOWN UNTIL OCTOBER!
OH MY GOODNESS!! On the last Maryse’s Monday Early Bird Release list was a book that the blurb caught my attention
FIGHTING THE ODDS by Kristen Granata. I almost bought it then, but put it in my Wish List, as I knew I couldn’t read it now. Today I woke up to find it is FREE. 😲😍❤️

Thank you for this heads up!
Those are the best days Nancy! Great surprises like that!
Maryse, I love the image of Birdy singing to you in soft tones so you could nap. That’s so sweet….
1 – Listening to Protect the Prince by Jennifer Estep (2nd in the Crown of Shards series) – it’s so good!
2 – Went to see The Art of Racing in the Rain yesterday and they did a great job with the movie. It’s not 100% true to the book – but pretty close – close enough that I wasn’t bothered by the alterations. I actually think some of the changes they made flowed better.
3 – Hoping to dive into The Best Thing by MZ this week….
Looking forward to hearing what you think of The Best Thing. I was going to start it, but I went and read a review that mentioned it has characters in common with Luna and the Lie (but it didn’t say it was a sequel or anything); however, my type A personality won’t let me read it without trying L&TL first.
So…in the meantime, I think I’m going to finally read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me this week. Hopefully.
I also really want to start Kill the Queen ASAP. Both it and TWOW&M are on my “read this book ‘jammit’ (as Maryse would say 😁)” shelf. I love J. Estep’s Elemental Assassin series, although I’m several books behind on it.
1. I binged the first 7? Episodes of The Sinner yesterday. Just need to watch the finale. It’s been a bit since I’ve watched anything and this was OH SO GOOD!
2. I need to run errands today bc I realized my son’s bday is actually in 6 days and I need to get a move on or nothing will be here in time. It’s an INSANELY busy week with doc appts, babysitting, soccer and open houses. I don’t actually have time for it. And it’s raining. *sigh*
3. I just realized I forgot to put supper in the crockpot. 😡
Awwwww jammmit!!!! I hate when I start my crockpot too late. Sometimes I’m up until 10 and 11pm waiting for it to finally cool, so I can transfer it into the fridge.
Tasha–I also binge-watched The Sinner earlier this year and I agree. It was SO GOOD! And I loved Bill Pullman in it! I also enjoyed the 2nd season (because of Bill Pullman), but if I remember correctly, I liked the 1st season a bit more. Have you watched Bloodline or Ozark? They’re both awesome, especially Bloodline. I also love Wentworth (Aussie women’s prison drama but nothing like Orange is the New Black. It’s much more serious, harder-hitting drama), and Broadchurch (British police drama–I adore the lead characters). Oh, and another British police drama I love is Happy Valley.
I can’t believe our babies (my grandbaby) are already a year old! Waylon turns one on 8/22!
Thanks for all those recs, Nay! I screenshotted it so a I can refer back when I need another show. The only one I’ve watched some of is Ozark. I didn’t finish it even though I loved what I had seen of it. Cuz I’m not a finisher. Sometimes on purpose (cuz if I finish, then it’s really over) and mostly bc I get sidetracked. A lot. Also, time. Have you seen Good Girls? I watched season 1 and loved it. The 1st episode of season 2 as well, but I wanted to wait until more car out because I’ve been spoiled by streaming.
Also, I can’t believe Waylon is already (almost) a year!! It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long! For you, not for me because it totally feels like a year over here. 😂😂 J actually turned 1 in May. He’s walking, climbing on my stinking table multiple times a day. His personality is really coming out big time. He’s turning into a toddler (so help me ✊🏻? <—That’s me shaking my fist. With tantrums and all. But, he’s also deliciously adorable. And sneaky smart and comical. 8/19 is my middle’s 5th birthday. That child soaks up all my energy/patience/sanity/love. Every ounce and then some! I actually got everything purchased today, 1 is arriving late but it’ll be ok, and all the food and everything planned. This may be the fastest birthday I’ve ever done.
I was thinking that it had seemed like J’s birthday wasn’t so close to Waylon’s. Now I know why! lol
I watched (and loved) the first season of Ozark. I tried to watch season 2 and couldn’t get into it. I think maybe the magic was gone. But those others, especially Bloodline and Wentworth, have been consistently great.
My Mother is trying to worm her way into getting my son a pet for his birthday. A snake. Or something. I tortured her my entire life sneaking pets in and here I am an adult now and I won’t let mine have any. We have a dog. Lol! I don’t want mice in my freezer.
Been there, done that! 🐀
🤣🤣🤣
How about a cute Leopard Gecko? LOVE those!!!
3 things Book Bonanza edition!
1. I finally met Sierra Simone and didn’t make a total fool of myself as expected!
2. I watched After and cried. Pretty sure I was the only one!
3. Kennedy Ryan is flipping gorgeous!
