A note from the author:
“What would you do with a million dollars?”
We had been friends for almost two years. I poured him pints. He showed me his world with words. He introduced me to Mike Gambino and the MGM Grand, Mackenzie Scott, and Amazon. He took me to places where only the elite were allowed. He was exceeding wealthy. I was an ordinary waitress, in an ordinary pub in an ordinary city in Canada.
We kept the town guessing. What were we up to as we whispered quietly in corner booths and laughed raucously at the pub? I would meet Melinda Gates and Ryan Reynolds soon. Alice Cooper and my daughter will be singing together soon. We smiled in our secret and continued our plans as the town contemplated our sordid affair.
The time was near, I could feel it. The thrill was threaded into every day that had led up to this day. We were on the cusp. The end of the wait had peaked.
“You are the best friend I’ve ever had.” Daryl’s eyes, unblinking, peered from behind his glasses. He reached out and stroked my hand.
Eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds later my world changed forever.
This is my story.
So what’s it about?
The pew of the working class.
Warden of wishes. Steward of secrets.
Custodian. Keeper. Protector.
On it, the ordinary sit.
Occasionally … the extraordinary.
When a world-class casino magnate from the Cayman Islands steps into Corky’s Pub, he transforms the familiar into fantastic.
Threading in and out of the lives of the rich and famous, tales of rock stars and the mafia are woven within the trials, anguish, and endurance of the average.
This true story takes you on an incredible journey of friendship between an ordinary waitress and the wealthiest man in the world.
Join the author on a page-turning ride of incredible highs with incredible hope into a world that exists only for the elite that will leave you wondering,
“Is her new friend here to save the world,
or will hers be destroyed?”
She had a twisted front tooth. Twelve is an awkward age. Her eyes, ice blue crystals flecked with indigo, were red-rimmed and puffy.
One thousand four hundred and ninety-five before this day she was twirling around the living room in unmatching socks and a blue sundress with thin shoulder straps. Strands of her unruly mane spilled victoriously from the french braid rejoicing, “Free at last, free at last!” She brushed them from her eyes as she twirled. Her sister was playing the piano, her dad his guitar; they were jamming. They were happy, she was happy, Mom was happy.
A year later she was dumping vodka down the drain, wishing it would leave forever. Today she said goodbye to her daddy who had.
