Yup, I’m still thinking about it. Even more so now, since writing my review. I’m still going over different parts of it in my head, re-analyzing situations that occurred throughout the series, now that I finally know the answers. I was so thrilled to see my best book bud (Lily from Lilium’s Realm) this morning, and even more relieved to find out she finished the book and wanted to chat!
Again –
SPOILER ALERT!!! PLEASE do not continue below, if you have not read the series (or this book) yet.
But…I just had to post this, as it is a true conversation between two Fever addicts (it’s a little *raw*). I encourage any of you to join in on the discussion 🙂
SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Lily:I loved Shadowfever
me: u read it all? that is so cool
Lily: yeah I finished it Sat
wow
me: right?
Lily: Cruce – didnt see that coming
me: it took me two days to finish my review of it
RIGHT!!
did u think of me considering I was a V’lane girl?
Lily: didnt see the whole book touching the baby thing
yup
Barrons loving her
Mackaylas Masterpieces and Miscelleny or whatever it was
didnt see that coming
didnt see the king being the dreamy eyed guy
it was full of blindsides
the kid
wow
all of it
and my new fave phrase?
V ‘Krucking
me: yah and how barrons was always making a point to tell her about his “needs”
LOL!
poor guy
every guy she spoke to
did u f* him
cause u still havent f* me
LOL!!!!
poooor Barrons
Lily: lol it was funny I loved when she said
me: i wish there was more of the two of them…
oh my favorite line?
Lily: “do that I will become V’Laines private pri-ya” and he rattled at her
me: “That’s it. Your not going. Get back in my bed” – that made me laugh
Lily: LOL me too
me: yah right!? when he told her that she broke all the rules for him or whatever – his way of saying he loved her
nice
Lily: yup
and I liked when she pushed him in the shower and he started to go all Beast on her and she stopped and soothed him that was unexpected
but I wanted to wring her effin neck when she almost unmade the damn world for him because she thought he was dead
and then BAM she has him back and is being a bitch to him WTF?
Oh Dani killing her sister….woah total blindside
me: oh yah!! right? that’s one of my points in my review – how ridiculous everytime he was dead she swore to change for him and love him then he was back and she was an ass!
Lily: yup
How about her mortal dad? he really rolled with the punches didnt he?
ok one little thing
me: yah i liked that
and
how about the fact that now two people have the book vlane and her weird wonder if there will be more like in 5 years or something
Lily: supposed to be a spin off about Dani as far as I have heard
me: well i know that “her” story is done now but i cant help but think it isnt
i didn’t like dani much to tell the truth she bored me
Lily: yeah?
me: yeah
sorry
i know many people do like her but for me she was a pain in the ass
Lily: LOL no worries I thought she was too Too effin cocky I didnt like it
me: yup and too much time spent on her – i dunno – she was sweet and good and all that…but when it was danni’s turn in the book i read intently in case of something but was never happy “it was danni” again
Lily: yeah
I have a few “what?!” things though
like what the hell up with sex photos in the same album with your graduation pics?
that was strange, and it felt out of place
I mean I get that the moment was needed to show that Darroc loved her but why not in a seperate album or just lose in the back or something?
And
one other little thing
So she can be killed by her spear?
me: oh right def my thought too
Lily: I mean she was a mad woman with that thing what would have happened if she pricked herself and why didnt she think of that herself after all the rhino boy she was munching on? I mean she mentions knowing about the slow slow death Malluce got she had to fear that for herself after hauling those baby food jars around
CHRISTIAN
whoah
they never said what happened to him
he was going Fae and looking weird and then just being a dick and hating Mac for feeding him Unseelie and then nothing else about him or did I miss something?
me: no he left
HE is the spinoff mostly about him i heard. unless he only gets one book
Lily: yeah?
cool
me: yeah i agree
someone turning into an unseelie prince or is it a seelie? whatever – too cool
Lily: another reason I dont think the series is over? Mac owes both the Gray Woman and The Unseelie King favors
me: of course
PLUS
Lily: no way is that standing openended
me: she IS the book – she WAS the book in her own way – how cool was that?
I mean Barrons had his book all along but when he “truly loved her” he told her to sink it.
LOVE it
Lily: I know!
Lily: LOL
ah I love this line, Im so glad you put in the review
How could he be mortal? How dare he be mortal?
I loved her grief outrage
and the fact “he hates when Im melodramatic”
LOL
Sidhe-seer that a certain Seelie Prince said the world should fear.
oh he so knew
looking back
I had to be ripped in half to stop feeling so torn in two
love it
me: yah right!!
u know what it reminded me when she squatted and screamed and screamed
she reminded me of “xhex” who all of the sudden stopped screaming and was all
“ok i’m done with that”
it’s like – i totally GET that – the outrage and despair to just act crazy, absolutely loony and then stop cause u see yourself and then go “hell that didnt fix anything”
Lily: yup
No let’s be perfectly precise: She’s grinding herself against him and shoving her tongue halfway down his throat.
My monster rattles it’s cage.
Violently.
effin right. I love Barrons
I know he is an asshole but I like that
I am so screwed in the head
me: oh yah! – he’s SUPER polite and extremely crude at the same time so what i quote out of his mouth will always be “ummmm okay”
LOL!
me: dude!
this is fun
crap I sound like Danni
Lily: lol
Ok so we’ll probably be talking about it all day…. but in the meantime… any thoughts?
What do you think is next? Do you think, the way the book ended, that Mac will be a focus once again, in the future?
Opinions? Your own “what?” moments? Let’s discuss!

LOL to infinity – our discussions are so funny. I mean seriously, I giggled the whole time I read that!
Ok people bring it on! JUMP IN!
Ok girls – help me out here. There is this one scene that is bugging the hell out of me. Mac had just found out that Dani had killed Alina. Barrons was being really lovely and giving advice. They started talking across each other – her still about Dani, him about her being Pri-ya
Barrons: you’re saying Pri-ya was a black out.
Mac: So what do I do?
Barrons: You pull your f****** –
Thenhe bared his teeth and looked away
Any ideas what he was about to say ???
I think he was going to tell her he knew she was faking being Pri-ya. She just pretended to be after the prom dress question, but he didn’t want to spoil that he knew maybe….what do you think?
Like she could just pretend that Dani did’t.
Agreed – he wa strying to get her to admit that she purposely was with him, not just because she was Pri-ya…but head-game lover that she is…instead of realizing he was trying to connect with her, she continues to play hard to get – GRRRRRR!!!!
Did anyone else love that this seemingly aloof, angry, distant, cold ,emotionless ‘being’ so easily got into tit-for-tat squabbles like a petulant five year old?
Did so Did not Did too etc
Then he had the audacity to always blame Mac – ‘ bloody hell woman , you drive me insane.’
Don’t you just love him!
And YES!! for such a mature, seemingly all-knowing ready for anything being, he sure had his tempter tantrums.
What I loved in this book, though, was how he did open up to her MANY times, giving her so many opportunities to allows US – the readers – to enjoy the TWO of them longer in the book.
But Mac was being a pain, and we had to wait a LONG time for it, AGAIN!
Another moment I loved… When he tells her how much she “undoes” him. As tight, and strict, and controlled he is, he is so far from it when there is even a hint of the “two of them”
I do! The best part was when all of them were squabbling like children. How can so many ancient people be in one room reduced to name calling and whining?
Yeah – you may well be right about the Pri-ya bit. Can’t really blame her though.
You know how Stephanie Meyer wrote Midnight Sun – Twilight but from Edwards perspective. Well wouldn’t you love to read this series from Barrons. I would love to have that kind of insight into his mind.
Jackie, you are amazing! I would SO love to read this from his POV. Wow, where he goes, what he does for food, etc….his memories of who he was before the Beast…..
I dont think she intentionally played hard to get.
I think she was terrified that she could continue to act pri-ya because of how he made her feel. Plus she would have changed the world to get him back – it must be scary to feel that strongly about someone AND have the power to act upon it. Remember her sister had already fallen for the baddie. She also had that prophecy hangingover her.
The bit that really is lovely is when he says something like ‘Please want me to be your man when you’re back again’
How could she not respond when she’d seen that in his mind?
Well that is true, but I don’t know…she made me nuts with the “If I ever get him back I am so gonna smoosh him” and then when he finally gets back “So you’re back. Huh. I don’t love you, stop looking at me like that. Stop talking about your wee-wee.” Nervous breath.
ARUGH I wanted to beat her.
I know. When he found her at the Abbey in book 3 after she came back from pri-ya. This could have all ended happily ever after then. But she put up so many barriers and really acted as thoughshe hated him. WHAT A WASTE.
EXACTLY! That’s what made me nuts. For Barrons to be so cold to everyone else he is hot for her to wait for her to sort shit out… I mean beyond patient!
hahahahah – she had too much restraint for a girl with all that emotion for him. I mean to be able to literally un-do a world for someone because you love them that much (and wouldn’t have even done it for your own sister) and then THERE HE IS – for you, back again, wants you, and she doesn’t do it.
My favorite line for her, is when she is mourning him, remembering there entire past, all the times she had an opportunity to give in to him, to trust him, so he could trust her, and she says to herself.
“In retrospect, I now see through myself so clearly”
or something like that – WOW.
So there she was grieving her loss, realizing that she also played HERSELF by fooling herself, and now that he was gone (and it was too late) she was NOW able to admit to herself everything she was feeling, and wishing she could.
And then, promised to give him that same amount of truth.
And then she doesn’t.
I still think a follow up on Ryordan would be good reading – far better than Christian. I really liked Ryordan
All his advice to Mac was sound (admittedly hostile, but still sound)
I loved that he respected Mac’s dad
I cracked up at the image of him pulling the teddy’s head off to shut it up and having to tolerate all those Highlanders in his club. As I said to you the other day, Barrons men really remind me of the BDB and I suppose Ryo is on parr with Rhev.
Yes, to follow each of the beasts (especially the sad one that lost his love because of them)..dying to know more.
And, I wish I could have seen Barrons devouring apple pie. Too cute!
I know – she is so frustrating. Very clever writing though. It kept us all hanging on and interested.
Not just eating apple pie, but actually taking the time to tell Lainey that he really doesn’t like ice cream with it!!!
It certainly did – my mom is starting the series right now actually.
Hey – so, wanna start posting our favorite quotes?
I loved that EVERYONE respected her Dad. I mean a mere human getting respect from Ancient creatures, that’s awesome.
Note to self: Barrons hates cakes, loves apple pie.
Ry was very intersting, I would love to get to know him. And you are so right, all the advice was sound even if it was covered in death threats. “The highlanders are determined to repopulate the country.” LOL that made me laugh, and then the kid screamed and everyone came hauling ass to see what happened…just great!
Oy I can’t do quotes right now! I’m at work! *pout*
Yes – he actually tells her at one point that he is’ beyond all the rules’ with her now. I’d like to know their history – I can understand the secrecy and the need for nobody to knowof the place that they first fell, but they did take the ‘no relationships’ to extremes.
How do you think I feel . I’m 6 hours in front of you two. i usually have to catch up while I’m getting the kids ready for school in the morning, before I leave for work. miss all the fun.
awww! Are you across the pond?
Yes London. We don’t appear to have as many obsessives over here so I crash your party
*snaps party hat on your head*
No party crashing here! I mean me and Maryse entertain each other just fine (not like that, get your brain outta the gutter) but it is lots of fun to have another visitor!
One that is not a lurker either…you know, one that actually comments!
One of my favourites (one of many) is when Mac reminds Barrons of the rainbow skirt that she wore to Malluce’s.
Barrons replies, “Its upstairs in your closet. Never throw it away. It looked like a wet dream on you.”
He was sooo scathing when she wore that skirt – really put her down, yet secretly he loved her in it. BUT still couldn’t quite say anything nice – he has to compare her to a wet dream!
LOL that was great!
I have another small question…sometimes her room is on the fouth floor, sometimes on the fifth…is there something I am missing there?
Heh…this party was created for all of us poor lonely Barrons-less souls. And anyway – u and me had this one planned, Jackie 😉 You’re not a crasher, your were part of the planning!!!
And I don’t think it will end early 😉
When ever I read a good book I’m always desperate to talk it through after. Its great to ‘meet’ people that share my enthusiasm. Most of my friends and family think I’m at best a geek and at worst a loon.
I’m converting a few friends tough. Got two of them addicted to the BDB! Gave Cat and Bones to one friend for her birthady and another the first four from Fever.
Uhhhh yah – I didn’t remember that part at all in the series? Guess it didn’t have much meaning to me, or I so didn’t get it, that my mind didn’t even bother processing the whole “floors” situation.
Is it because of the mirrors?
You are better off than me. I have converted one. I found my fellow bookmates here on the net. My family thinks I’m eccentric. You know you always think that’s going to be cute to be called that, but then you find out they also call the old lady with 87 cats that and all of a sudden you’re not so sure that’s a catagory you want to be lumped with.
See, I thought I had converted a few of my own people.
Unfortunately, while they “like” these kinds of books well enough (ie: mom and another friend of mine), they don’t act like me over them.
I will read through an entire series non-stop and talk about it to anyone who will listen (which isn’t many, and thew few who do listen, quickly tune out) and basically the reason I created this site.
I needed to *meet* more like me.
We are our own special group I think…
LOL Lily!!!!
Right – maybe the mirrors? That was a hole for me, but not something I was fixated on.
I didn’t spot the room moving bit until quite late in the book. I think Its all to do with the space distortion – the tardis effect of when walking into BB&B. It sort of appeared from nowhere though
It did…I don’t remember that from other books? Was it mentioned in other books? Eeek…did I miss something?
So true Jackie!
He is so freakin’ crude!!! But it’s *his* way, and we love him for it. Too manly to admit bubbly colorful girls do it for him…
so when he admits it, he has to make it dirty 😉
no not that I cottoned onto.
He is a crude guy…but remember he called her Rainbow Girl again….that seems to be his private nick name for her.
Good I was worried I was the only one missing that!
I’ll read a series from start to finish. Sit up until 3am and be zombified in work.. My husband – bless him just sighs sadly and lets me get on with it.
Their loss – I consider us select members of an exclusive club. If they can not appreciate the literature we read, then we don’t want them in our club anyway!
Thats right! Glutton Readers Unite! I am a series addict too….
I loved Barrons jealousy. When she fell onto the bed with a very naked and ‘happy’ Christian. Again when she referred to the DEG. He tried very ahrd to contain it but failed miserably.
I think my favourite use of the rainbow girl quote has to be when he goes into her head and she tells him that she didn’t get the spell. She wants to dive down into the lake/book and get it, but he tells her it will change her. “Dont leave me rainbow girl” Awwww bless!
I loved when he would get emotional he would “rattle” if upset and ROAR if REALLY upset – very cool emotional gauge. Now my question is – did he have better check on himself before, because he never rattled at her before….
Totally. I loved his nickname for her…that was so fitting. “Perky rainbow” and I have to say I liked how the king called her BG – and kept calling her that even after he was out.
I think he roared more as he cared more. Couldn’t control the jealousy as well
In another time DEG and BG would have probably lived happily ever after
What’s your fix on the king?
I kinda like him.
Lets be honest – he only turned bad when the queen wouldn’t let him make his concubine Fae. He really loved her.
Then when he realised how bad he’d become , he tried to lock the evil away.
He’d had parts of himself looking out for Mac for years.
Was he really such an evil person???
Nope he wasn’t – he was AWESOME. I loved him, and how much he tried to help her along the way… and he did it all for love. She was going to, when it came to bringing Barrons back. Same thing.
“Dont leave me rainbow girl”
*melt*
Oh Oh!! Rememberrrrrr? ‘member when she was grieving, and she was trying to think back, and the first thing she thinks of is when she was still sorta Pri-ya and he said:
“You’re leaving me rainbow girl”
And she freaks cause that’s not the memory she wanted to go back to?
I had no clue she actually “heard” that…
Whats your fix on the King? I quite like him.
He only turned bad when the bitch of a queen wouldn’t let him turn his concubine into Fae.
He tried very hard to encase his evil for all eternity.
He had parts of himself look after Mac from birth.
Is he really so evil?
I know the bit. When shes on the bathroom floor at Darrocs house
I don’t think the King was evil….I just don’t. He wanted to help Mac the whole time. Gentle little nudges here and there, but never forcing her. He was proud of her, she was a part of him. He did do his best to put the evil to rest, and he left that in charge of the humans, not himself or his breathern who would use it to gain power. He loved his concubine and would have done anything to be with her forever, and I think he did. He did everything he could for her. EVERYTHING. I don’t think he is evil. I just don’t buy it. Maybe he did bad things, but the real question with him is do the ends justify the means?
Maybe not, But would we have judged Mac harshly for destroing the Earth just to bring back Barrons? I know I wouldn’t have.
So.. come on girls what is your absolute favourite best bit in the book?
One of mine…
When she was on the couch, and he stalked over to her, bent her head back and devoured her face…. hehe
You know, I got that feeling too. But Barrons is her HEA. He was destined to be. That is a really good point, the more he cared the more he couldn’t control it. Humm now I am thinking…that’s dangerous activity to be sure.
Mine has to be the conversation they ahve with their eyes when Mac is dying after being bitten by Barrons son.
She tells him that she should have made love to him while she had the chance. He tells her that theres no way she can say that and then die. I love that part
er That was in responce to a post forever ago….sorry.
I would not have judged Mac for changing the world for him, I would have done the same thing and I was cheering for her to do it.\
Yeah, but dangerous in a good way!
That was the bit when she delved and heard him wanting to be her man. I love that scene
Oh yes…one of the best scenes. I have more – but I’m gonna wait until I get home tonight so I can access my highlights. More to come on my fav parts 😉
TOO MANY GOOD BITS
Isn’t it strange how you can read a series and totally change your opinion of someone.
Book 1- really didn’t like Barrons
Book 2 – thawing a little but really didn’t trust him
Book 3 – The turning Point
Book 4 – please don’t let him be dead!
Book 5 – Go for it girl!
Funny…I knew he was a major player in this thing, and since I love the bad-boys, I crushed on him from book#1. BUT!!!! V’lane stole me from Barrons quite a few times. Did ANYONE else like V’lane like I did? Come on people… I can’t be the only one considering there are t-shirts out there that say “V’lane’s girl” and all that…
Wow! yall have covered it all lollol ,,,,I was just a big fool…i didnt start for 2 days after I got,,,and didnt want to read it after the first chapter,,,I was sooo heart broken even though all this time I had a fear that Barrons was the beast ,,,but I finished it,,,and just when I thought It was coming to an end,,,,VLane,,,what???????? Dani?????? manoman,,so much…….I loved it,,,this by far has been one of the best series I have read ,,,and I have read alot..
and what was the last line…the end…For Now!!!!!! spin off with Dani or maybe Christian..you know I would even like to see her go back into the past and have a series with Alina…
You know what’s weird? I did the same thing (but not in days – in hours). I got home from work, and waited hours before I started it. It’s like, I knew this was the end, and I had to be mentally ready for the ride.
Yup – and I loved KMM’s “for now…” LOVE her to death!
Have you read her Highlander books? They are sort of a “prequel” to the Fever series, in terms of the Fae queen, the Seelies (Adam Black who shows up in Shadowfever) and even Christian (so I hear). I’m only 3 or 4 books into that series. VERY romantic.
So? What was your favorite part. Don’t be shy. We already broke my usual no-spoiler rules 😉
Morning!
No – I never liked V’lane -I don’t know why really , except that he just didn’t ‘get’ humans and their emotions. When he had her in the museum with her naked ass in the air in book 1, but really couldn’t see what was wrong about that. he thought that was ok. No – it was so not ok.
He summed that up when talking of the rape – something like ‘I only took what had already been taken’ – like whats the big deal – asshole!
No I really didn’t like him….but I do acknowledge that he did care for Mac.- in his own twisted sick Fea way.
Anyway – never trust a ‘man’ thats prettier than you!
The one I’m troubling over is Darroc the LM. he obviously loved Alina and I think he treated Mac with a certain level of respect. I can’t quite dislike him. ….. Then I remember that he ordered the rape, filled the earth with unseelie etc etc. I’m finding it hard to match the man we met with the actions he’s carried out. Anyone else feel that or am I odd?
I think he love for Alania is what humanized him to us, I mean he was (or we thought he was till V’Lane anyways) the big bad guy. He was evil. He did want it all, and that included her sister. He loved her, but he still had his goals. Mac was in the way, she had to be out of the way, so having her raped took her off the grid without him feeling guilty for killing the sister of his lover. It’s sick and twisted, but remember he was not always human, he was Fae.
You’ve really given that one some thought.
I did. When it came to the photo album part and she was thinking Darroc really loved her sister, and her sister would have went back to him if she had not been killed (or she thought she would anyways) and I struggled with the part of if he loved Alaina so much why did he have her raped and it came to the fact that he was Fae to start with, and he was living as a human with the agenda to rebecome full Fae. Just as V’Laine said he jumped when Mac was being raped because it was already happening – they just don’t put that emotional backing to sex like humans do.
Or so I think, I could be really really wrong, but that’s what I gathered.
No – I don’t think you’re wrong, I agree with you. as I said a couple of posts back, V’lane just didn’t get that he was doing something immoral.
as Barrons would say ‘bloody f****** fairies!’
One of the scenes I loved between Barrons and her:
“I don’t have any idea what to wear anymore, so I tried to cover all bases.”
“Try skin.”
“Little chilly for that.”
We looked at each other across the coffee table.
His eyes didn’t say, I’d heat you up, and mine didn’t say What are you waiting for? He didn’t reply, Fuck if I’m making the first move, so I was careful not to say, I wish you would, because I can’t, because I’m… and he didn’t snap …choking on your pride?!
“As if you aren’t.”
“Excuse me?”
“Really Barrons,” I said drily. “I’m not the only one who didn’t just not have that conversation, and you know it.”
There was the faint, sexy lift of his lip. “You’re a piece of work, Ms. Lane.”
“Right back at you.”
Hi Ladies,
I know I’m a little late on this discussion but I just couldn’t bring myself to read Shadowfever for over two weeks, I just didn’t want it to be over yet. But I read it and thankfully most of my questions were answered. I decided to stop lurking on your post *) and actually join in……..
Here is something that I noticed while reading Shadowfever. When the UK sifts V’Lane/Draco and Mac out of the Cavern they discussed the elixir of life that was given to Mac. The UK said “my elixir?” and Draco mentioned that he had “improved it”.
We were first told about the elixir of life in The Highlanders Touch when we found out that Adam Black slipped it to his have Fae son Circenn to make him immortal. Then in Adam’s story The Immortal Highlander we learned that over time a person who consumed the elixir of life would go mad, the same as the Fae do over time.
So when Draco said that he had improved the elixir I’m wonder what he did…..does it not make a person go mad, can they no longer be killed by the sword or the spear?
Hi Heather! Good question, and thanks for the added info. While I did read the first 4 books in KMM’s Highlanders, I didn’t get far enough to know more about Adam Black’s history, so this is an interesting tid-bit about the elixer. It appears the next three books will be about Dani, Christian and Ryoden (as per one of my Facebook friends who attended the official book release party in New Orleans), so maybe we’ll know a bit more.
I would LOVE to have a story/s about Ryoden (and his men), and of course anything with the Kelter men is always good 😉 But I’m not too keen on Dani, she kind of drove me nuts’o at times. But anything KMM writes will be well worth it.
Maryse, you have to read The Immortal Highlander (book 7, Adam Black’s story). The scene where Adam and his lady finally come together is amazingly HOT. He’s walking around her staling her, talking to her….it’s by far the HOTTIEST scene written by KMM and most other authors. I had that in mind the whole time I was reading Shadowfever hoping that Barrons would do something similar and sure enough HE DID!!!
typo:
He’s walking around her stalking her, talking to her….
ahhhh yessss…. and I’m already SO partial to Adam for so many reasons. I was even crushing on him when he was the bad guy in Hawk’s book. Me ‘n bad boy heroes, as long as there’s a hint of *redeemable* tee hee! So now u’ve got me curious. KMM does write some seriously steamy scenes. Don’t tell me yet cause I’m gonna find out when I read the rest of the series, but…the fact that Adam was mortal now in Shadowfever? Hrmmm..I dunno if I like that.
Adam intrigued me from the get go with the Highlander series, and yes he is a bad boy all the way *yum*! Here is a teaser steamy scene from Adams story for you.
“Just for the record, I kneel to no one” ……. then gets down on his knees in front of her……….**hint hint**
Back to Barrons:
I want to think that Barrons could read Mac’s thoughts all along and that he knew her emotional struggles when it came to him. I feel that he was just waiting for her to come to him when she was ready and then he would let her know that he could read her thoughts…..
….and then he drops her a hint that she needs to make up her mind and soon.
Barrons: “I won’t wait much longer. You’re on your last chance with me”
Mac: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” What was he saying? Would Barrons walk away from me? Me? He never walked away from me. He was the one who would always keep me alive. And always want me. I’d come to count on those things like I counted on air and food.”
Barrons: “During a blackout, people do what they’ve wanted to do all along but have repressed, afraid of the consequences. Worried what others might think of them. Afraid of what they’ll see in themselves. Or simply unwilling to get punished by the society that governs them. You don’t care what other people think anymore. Nobody’s going to punish you. Which raises the question: Why are you still afraid of me? What haven’t you wrapped your head around yet?” (this last part clued me in)
I think he heard her struggles with him, all along. He loved her and I think that scared him too so he waited, watched, listened then he knew she was there and wouldn’t admit it to herself, so that’s when he finally opened up and dropped hints.
LOVED that part!!!! See, that’s the thing about Barrons that I loved.
As indifferent as he seemed to be, self-assured and kind of – well – you know – that “guy” that never has to ask cause everyone just wants to give to him, just because of his power and seeming arrogance…
He NEVER held back his feelings for her. He constantly worked on her. Oh sure, he wasn’t fluffy in his telling her, and showing her his feelings, but he constantly, over and over again let her know, gave her openings to commit to him seriously.
