(WINNER UPDATE: Congratulations to Kandace for winning a Book Bash swag bag!)
Book Bash DAY 2: Thursday night ran into Friday at 2am when I finally realized *whoops* it was late and Friday was the BIG setup day. The last day I had to make sure everything was in place, counted out, unpacked, packed, distributed, labelled etc.
Maryse, Penny & Sherry on set-up day.
I also had the BIG volunteer meeting later that day, the author table/booth setup and banners to hang. Oh and let’s not forget that Books-A-Million AND Fedex were coming that day to setup actual “stores”, meaning there *could* be mass chaos as their shipments were shuttled in.
Plus, Friday night’s main events (the author reception party AND my pre-registration party) right after all of that, but sleep? Sleep schmeep! I was running on adrenaline and I was confident I had plenty to last the whole weekend.
I didn’t need to be down in the BIG room first thing in the morning, did I? After all, Eddie (my event planner) had Friday afternoon scheduled and timed to a T, but he didn’t say anything about the morning. The morning was mine!
I could sleep in and okay, maybe get a late start on my day, but I reasoned, we had PLENTY of time still. Sure, it was late, but I was hangin’ with some of my favorite authors, readers and bloggers, and we were having fun, so why cut it short? Eddie and the hotel crew knew where everything went. No need to panic.
HA! I should have known better, ’cause every single step of the Book Bash planning had mini hitches along the way, so why would Friday be any different? Oh nothing drastic, no… but always something. Every single detail… EVERY detail had more steps than I anticipated. If it could go wrong, it likely would. Including Friday morning when at 7:15am I received a call from the hotel staff informing me that a shipment to Book Bash was just mis-delivered to their hotel kitchen (clear across the other side of the venue). I was groggy and wanted to go back to sleep so I give them the okay to just re-deliver it to the main convention room. She says it’s 50 large boxes, they’ve already been left, the shippers are gone and the boxes need to be moved out of the kitchen ASAP.
O.M.G!
GAH!!!! It’s the attendee swag bags! Oh I needed those BADLY, but what I didn’t need were the extra fees I could incur by the hotel for this error (it was costly!). Eeeeeeep! I scrambled out of bed, last night’s makeup and hair askew, kept the pajama top on and changed into a pair of jeans and went! Yep, sure enough… boxes stacked tall but we got it handled. *phew*
And I dunno how it happened (I can’t remember much as my sleep-deprived mind was working on auto-pilot by then), but at some point two of my best friends (Sherry and Penny) showed up to help me with my day. Love them!
At first, I was working in a fuzzy daze (you know that foggy feeling? You can get things done, but you’re just not quite there). Coffee? Oh sure that totally would have helped, but MINE kept disappearing. I’d go to get a sip, and lo and behold, my coffee was gone. Sherry would bring me another, I’d take one sip, set it down, pack another few bags, go for another sip. WHAT!!?? Coffee was gone again. We found the culprit. *glares at husband*
My aunt, my mom, me and Penny, starting on the swag bags. Nice pose, mom! 😉
LOL! Eventually he took off with his “guy-team”, and I had a full coffee to myself, bringing me back life. We finished packing the “Forever Romanceauthor swag bags” (so fun!!), sorted the volunteer shirts & swag (sponsored by HarperCollins), prepped the banners and signs, numbered & labelled the post-its and waited on Eddie to show up an give us instruction. And once Eddie arrived, things kicked into high gear (that guy is beyond organized and knows exactly what he wants), and I was wide awake and ready!
table set-up
The convention room transformed itself before my eyes, as our author seating floor plan came to fruition, Fedex and BAM seamlessly built their stores and the volunteers arrived to begin transporting and sorting all of the case boxes of swag, books and packages to their appropriate areas.
It was amazing how efficiently everything came together, and I just have to thank our fantastic Book Bash volunteer team. They blew my mind time and time again. Best team ever, and it was because of them that the entire event (setup, parties and the main signing event) went off without a hitch.
Volunteer meeting.
Oh!! While we’re discussing the volunteers, here’s a funny volunteer memory:
So like… right about 4pm? 5pm? Eddie called the volunteer meeting, and as we introduced ourselves, and he began assigning us various jobs/stations for that evening and the following day (the BIG day), in saunters our video crew, my husband and… popular cover model, Paul Marron (P.S. here is hisFacebook page and many of his book covers. Rehv fans, anyone? ;)).
Maryse & Paul Marron
Only a few of the volunteers were “in” on the fact that Paul was there that weekend ’cause they had met him earlier that day (teehee! I was keeping it a secret ’cause I’m sneaky like that). Anyway… we glanced at each other in panic, grinning wondering if the rest of our crew would notice. I worried that Eddie *might* just lose our rapt attention.
Elizabeth: Maryse! I was really trying to hold it together when I first saw him! LOL!
Eddie: Oh yes…I was lost…but the show must go on!!!…
Maryse: I still remember our sneaky grins.
Katie: See what a good minion I am Eddie … I was so intently listening to you I didn’t even see Paul walk in with Maryse ‘s hubs. And I am THE biggest BDB FAN ever!!!! I mean Rehvenge walked in the door and I only had eyes & ears for you. *shaking my head*
We glanced around quickly and giggled amongst ourselves as we breathed a sigh of relief. Our secret was still safe. No one was the wiser… yet. 😉
And then it was party time!!! Off I went to “meet and greet” with the authors at the “Author Reception” (one of our sponsors for the event was the fabulous Atria Books. Publisher to so many of our favorites like Colleen Hoover, Jamie McGuire, Tina Reber, Abbi Glines, Katja Millay and so many more!) I was so excited (and so so nervous). I walked to the event trembling because this wasn’t just me going to meet one of my favorites. I was walking into a room FULL of them! But just seeing the calm, smiling faces of my fellow volunteers (Elizabeth, Kirsten and Lori) who were handing out the author’s badges I felt… grounded. Some of my girls were right there and we were meeting them all for the first time together.
Volunteers, Lori, Elizabeth and Kirsten at the author reception entrance. There’s Tina Reber (and Katie Ashley in the background).Maryse & author Tina Reber (I love her! Can you tell?)
There they all were, chatting, laughing, eating and being merry, right before my eyes. It was like a dream!! Jamie McGuire, Tina Reber, Tarryn Fisher, Willow Aster, Abbi, Colleen, OMG allll of them (and *ahem* Dr. Ivan Rusilko. Eeeeep! I think my heart skipped a beat, then. 😉 ) Although I suspect my heart was skipping beats all evening. I was wired (mic’ed) for the video but I bet it would have been even more “telling” had it been an EKG. I think my sound guys would beg to differ, as I caught them chuckling a few times at what they heard come through my mic. Yep… sometimes I forgot they were listening. *blush*
After the reception, it was off to my “Pre-Registration Party” (also sponsored by Atria Books). I nearly fell OVER when my husband took me outside where the line was gathering. It was HUGE and I felt faint. AGAIN! OMG!!! What an amazing turnout! Roughly 350 Book Bash attendees scanned in and wrist-banded early, (and Paul Marron was not only there hanging out with us, he was scanning in the attendees!!)
OMG! They *did* at least get a picture. Paul… scanning in attendees.
Elizabeth: I think it was really great of Paul to help scan in tickets at the pre-registration party. You should have seen the girls’ reaction to him!!
Maryse: Elizabeth: do tell!! I didn’t get to see any of that…. (please let there be video of that!!!)
Elizabeth: I mean really… If just seeing that man doesn’t make your day better, then I don’t know what will!
Ahhhh wow. I had no clue. There was just so much going on that evening, it’s all sort of a big blur of happiness.
We all got to hang out with quite a few of the authors that stopped by for the event. Photos, laughter, *squeeeeeing* Oh YES. There was squeeing. I looked over my shoulder and some authors were even signing stuff and everyone was beaming. Spending the evening with my family (my mom and aunts were there), AND my book family… I couldn’t have asked for anything more. What a blast! I met so many of my fellow readers that night (some that I chat with on a regular basis on my Facebook page). The internet brings so many of us together, but nothing beats finally meeting you guys in person.
Things I learned on Friday:
Lack of sleep makes me delusional. Case in point: me thinking I could have a late night, and sleep in the next day during the biggest weekend of my life.
Always remember to tell your delivery company exactly where you want your packages delivered. Big hotels don’t just have one delivery area, Maryse. What were you thinking!?
When in a pinch, pajama tops double perfectly as t-shirts!
Husbands steal coffee.
Ha! Looks like I’m all chasing the balloon-guy. I probably was.
Balloon deliveries are surprisingly REALLY exciting!!!
Thank goodness for “small favors” (such as an assistant inquiring about an author’s table location) right when we thought “setup” was complete. Why? Looking for her table on the “map” vs. the actual layout alerted us to the fact that two complete rows of authors were swapped (opposite of the printed floor plan). *whoops* and FIXED. 🙂
Fatigue goes away indefinitely once the adrenaline kicks in. So does hunger. Just one look at food had my insides lurching.
Mothers and daughters read the same books together (not just my mom and I, but many of my fellow readers too). Awww!
Never forget I’m mic’ed. I’m a little antsy over what I might have said (or what noise I made <— probably that ;)) that had the “camera crew” snickering.
Author interviews are so fun, especially when so many of the authors are hanging out in the “interview room” together. However, happy author “sounds” in the background are not conducive to “Barbara Walters-style” interviews (so say the sound guys). Yah but… but… the energy was perfect! Don’t y’all have machines to remove background noise? 😉 No? *hrmph*
Mustaches make an EXCELLENT disguise (even for super-popular and recognizable cover models). The double-takes I witnessed all weekend were priceless!
Paul Marron takes REALLY good pictures. Who woulda thought? 😉

Friday June 28th I was packing OH MY what to take, what to wear, calling my girls with pickup times to begin out short road trip and girls weekend to our first ever “book bash event” … between checking and following blogs, Facebook, the tweets were flying. Texting picts back and forth what to take, what to wear … are we back there again? Thought we had that figured out Finally off to bed gotta get up early but first just a few chapters to read. Oh no what did I forget. I knew something was missing. Oh yes, the tickets I had ALL the tickets where are they, where did I put them. Oh noooooo, they will never forgive me … Ahhhhh, found they were not lost after all. Back to bed and my current “Kitchen” read. Up early, excitement set in, car packed, checking off list … OH no not now! One cat in where is the other. Playing hide-n-seek no I don’t have time for this her disappearing act now was not funny. Could not look any longer she would have to stay out until hubby got home. Oh my! Picked up the girls and off to our first Book Bash experience and a great experience it was. Can’t wait for next year!

Loved reading your play by play of the weekend, it was a great time! On the 28th I was at the Kissimmee library at a Sylvia Day “Day After Dark” event! She was there for 5 hours signing everyone’s stuff! Very cool and down to earth! Unforgettable evening!
Maryse, thank you SO much for writing these wonderful Book Bash entries! I was planning on attending – had the tickets and hotel reservations, but we ended up spending a week with my in-laws in Nags Head, so I was packing on Friday the 28th! So, yes, I was sad not to be able to go to Book Bash, but as successful as it was I can always hope for next year, right? Thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication!
Looks like y’all had a great time!! I would LOVE to have gone but with the Hubs & 4 kids, it’s kinda hard to get away. Lol. So on the 28th I was hanging out with some friends & the kids at the pool. 🙂

Omgggg I’m like so freaking jealous 🙁 I couldn’t go cuz of work. And the small problem that I live in Texas and I’m a working college girl and my strict parents wouldn’t let me go. Butttt I love hearing about your adventures. On the 28th I was working and tomorrow might I’ll be on a plane to London for my first ever European adventure! 🙂

I was out with friends who were trying to convince me to go snorkeling on Saturday rather than go to BOOK BASH… Blasphemy! Of course I didn’t listen. Book Bash was awesome and I’m so glad you all held the event. It was my first book signing ever and I had such a great time!

On Friday June 28th I was working and reading about how everyone was having fun at Book Bash. -_-
Paul was a fabulous assistant scanning in tickets, though he was kind of a wrist band hog. I mean, who would want to come to me when they could go to him?! Between you and me, I didn’t have a clue who he was until the evening went on a bit later. LOL

Yes, we share books also. And tomorrow, the 13th, I will probably be curled up reading my next book, and calling my daughter to chit chat and plan our next great adventure.

I am still trying to figure out how I missed seeing Paul Marron.
On Friday June 28th, For 6.5 hours I was stuck on an aiprlane that never left the ground. Then I was stuck in the Washington airport for 3.5 more hours while trying to be on my way home from My daughter’s kidney checkup in Boston. AT Eleven p.m., I finally boarded a flight to Memphis where my husband drove to pick us up since there were no flights home available until Sunday and I didn’t want to stay in the airport with 9 year old for days.

Well….I am not going to lie but my Friday night was a killer…and I mean that literally. I have the cold 🙁 and somehow it just went from being ok to NOT ok. I really do despise serious colds. haha.
So I was there sitting in front of the TV drinking lemon and honey tea and I must tell say – it taste’s and smells like CRAP – while watching Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban << That was my only highlight of the night. – AND getting cramps in my neck…and ugh! It was just a baaad Friday night haha.
But glad you had fun Maryse. I wish I could've been there…. haha 🙂

June 28th I was driving from Savannah to Orlando for Book Bash. We arrived late so I missed the pre-registration, but we were able to watch fireworks from our awesome Doubletree window. So cool sitting in the dark with my hubby and three kids watching fireworks from the luxury of our hotel room:) We were also able to see a couple of the roller coasters and the tips of the Harry Potter castle at Universal. Very cool:)
June 28th, I was at the Meet-n-greet pre-Book Bash Party getting to meet my faves- Tine Reber, Abbi Glines, Jamie McGuire, & Colleen Hoover! Tomorrow night, I start my vacation and we will be heading through Georgia to reach our destination.! Love your blog!!!

OMG. You met Paul Marron! So jealous. Can’t remember what I was doing June 28th, but if he’d been with me it would have been burned into the old brain cells!
What was I doing on Friday, July 28th? I was moping around my house and complaining on FB that I would give anything to be in Orlando at Book Bash!!!!!
On that same friday I arrived with two my girlfriends to the book bash hotel and sat at the pool all afternoon. then got ready and stood in line for 2 hours in the pre registration line! I also met some pretty cool chicks that night from all around the country and am stil in contat with them via email and goodread!
I was reading after putting my little one to bed 🙂
Friday the 28th I was finishing up finals and watching my husband play softball. I was also enjoying my last night in my 20’s. Turned 30 on the 29th. Yikes!
So jealous! On the 28th I was daydreaming about going to the Book Bash! So, of course I stayed home and done some reading! Hope I win some swag!
Friday the 28th was my 15 year anniversary and the reason I couldn’t make it to book bash which was a shame maybe next year it will fall on another weekend..Glad you had such a good time.. 🙂
I am so wanting to go to the next one! I know I will disguise it as a trip to disney world. The husband will be none the wiser.
Love the pictures you got. Looked like alot of fun!
On June 28th, I was on my way to Orlando, FL to go to Book Bash the next day. Loooong and rainy 6 hour drive.
I was at Book Bash having a fabulous time! Can’t wait for next year! I met so many wonderful people!
On June 28th I was shouting at the sky because I was stuck in Texas while many were having a great time at Book Bash. Next time.
both days I am pretty sure I was reading and spending time with my fictional boyfriend
I was at home curled up with a glass of wine and a book 🙂
I’m still green with envy over book bash. It looked like SO much fun! I know it just happened but do you have any ideas for dates for this coming year? I would love to be able to plan ahead and make a girls weekend of it!
The 28th I was at my nephew basball double header trying to read between at bats and games on my phone. This weekend I will be taking my kids to the Lumberjack competition and try to sneak in some reading time.
I was still working.
I was getting ready for my trip to O-Town on Saturday for Book Bash! Next year, J and I decided we’re definitely making a weekend of it and not just going on Saturday!
On June 28 I was on my way out of town with my fiance for a fun weekend getaway 🙂
At the airport…
Looks like y’all had a great time!! I would LOVE to have gone but with the Hubs & 4 kids, it’s kinda hard to get away. Lol. So on the 28th I was hanging out with some friends & the kids at the pool. 🙂
I was at the Book Bash pre-registration event and met you and some very nice fellow readers. The entire event was awesome, very organized, and one of my best weekends of the summer. You are just the cutest and the sweetest!! Saturday night I will be attending a Ray’s Baseball game with my husband.
It looks like you had an amazing time. I really wish I could have gone, but it was too far for me to travel and I was right in the middle of finals for my college courses. So in answer to what I was doing on June 28th, I was studying my butt off. As for July 13, tomorrow I am hoping to go listen to my brother in laws band playing at a festival called Cheese days. Have a great weekend Maryse
Ahhhh I so wanted to.be there but I will.for sure next year!!
Sorry we didn’t live closer my daughter and I would have loved to attend. How about the next one in LA?
The afternoon of Friday, June 28th, I wish I was heading to Bookbash but unfortunately I was home preparing for a weekend of work at home, blah. I do appreciate the chronicles however. I get to see what I missed out on. I sure hope this was the first of many to come. Will plan for the next one!
On June 28 I was plotting how to be more prepared for Book Bash 2014 so that I get my ticket before the event sells out!
June 28th was my cousin’s birthday, so we spent the weekend up north camping. Sitting in front of the fire, it was almost like being in Florida and not Michigan, ha! I definitely could use a Book Bash shirt to read in!
I totally want to go next year! I would love a T-shirt!
Very Jealous that you got a picture with Kristen Ashley and Paul. On June 28, unfortunately I was working late.
On the 28th, I was in Japan! I wish that I could have been at Book Bash but Japan was a blast. 🙂
Would love to get to the next Book Bash! On the 28th I was looking forward to seeing our son, he was home for the weekend for a friend’s wedding!
I was celebrating the last day of school, even though I know that by the 3rd week of summer, I will be counting down the days till school starts again!
Nothing exciting I’m afraid :/
LOL
What fun! I need to plan to come next year!!
On that Friday night, I was waiting in line to have my ticket scanned for Book Bash. What a thrill it was to walk into that room!
Wow, I can definitely feel the energy coming through the pictures. Looks great! I don’t think I would’ve recognized Paul, but he still would have got my attention 🙂
Family night then read when everyone went to bed!
I wish I could have gone!! I was probably sitting at home reading.
Thank you for the pics… I am still so upset I could not make it!!! 🙁
On the 28th I was at the beach with my family!!!
On Friday I was talking to my daughter who lives in Tallahassee from my home in Miami giving her a list of my “must have” books and signatures for her early trip to Orlando to pick up My goodies. Yes, we share books also. And tomorrow, the 13th, I will probably be curled up reading my next book, and calling my daughter to chit chat and plan our next great adventure.
Woo Hoo! I still get a thrill remembering that weekend. It was so much fun!!!! On Friday I was meeting some of my fav authors, also meet some new friends, waiting in line for pre registration. We ended up hanging around together all weekend, it was a blast!!!!
Friday nights are movie nights at our place, so I cuddled up with the kiddos watching Disney flicks until they fell asleep – then I pulled out Come Alive by Karina Halle and got my Dex fix!!
Looks like yall had fun Wish I could have been there. Maybe next year!
Looks like you all had an amazing time. Hoping to make it to one of these sometime in the near future. Thank you for your awesome giveaways!
June 28th I was sulking at my husband, “You know this is the weekend of Book Bash and I should be there!!”. I guess there is always next year. It looks like everyone had a blast.
June 28th I was wishing that I was at your BOOK BASH but was squeeing a lot myself as my girlfriends and I relived some early years at the Boys 2 Men and New Kids on the Block Concert! 🙂 <3
I am still trying to figure out how I missed seeing Paul Marron.
I was at work. Looks like you had a great time.
Looks like fun!
On the 29th I worked in the morning/read at night. Tomorrow I work all day :/

I was at the bookbash preregistration party on Friday June 28th. I met you Maryse and A LOT of my favorite authors. The whole event was so worth the trip from Canada. It was a blast.
Tomorrow is my 22nd wedding anniversary. I will be out with my husband celebrating!!!
Friday, June 28 I was reading Escape From Paradise and tomorrow night (July 13) I’ll be stalking your blog to see if I am the winner.

I was watching the Baltimore Orioles and reading, the same as the 27th.
I was whining to Johanna LovesBooks about me not being able to go to Book Bash with her on June 28, if I recall correctly. LOL

Oh! that looks like such fun. I will have see about getting there next time. On June 28th I was neck deep in a book. Most definitely a good one. 🙂
I wish I could've been there…. haha 🙂
– Kubra xx

Trying to keep my inner Leah at bay!
June 28th, we were walking around the room, writing all of the authors names down. Then off to Wal-Mart a 230am, to get supplies for the weekend. Tomorrow, I will be reading while the laundry is going. I found a way to set up my Kindle, on my elliptical, so I can read and work out. Going to be a great day! Had a blast at BookBash this year, already planning on being there next year!!!

We had a huge storm the night before, so the power was out at work which led to an inpromtu day off! Sweet baby jesus it was amazing, but alas, not as awesome as it would be going to book bash. To next year and being able to snag tickets.
Well label me the ultimate village idiot because I thought that dude was your husband! I have never heard of him so I just assumed he was being a good hubby and helping out!!
It looks like just being a part of that set up was AMAZING and I’m glad you took so many pictures because my flight was 6 hours late Nd I almost missed the pre reg thing!
This just makes me even more jealous that I wasn’t there. Next year!
I was at home relaxing and reading after a long week!
That looks like it was such a blast! I’m not sure what I was doing that night, but I can pretty much guarantee it wasn’t all that exciting!
I would absolutely love this awesome giveaway and still no over the fact I had to drive away from Orlando when all this fun was just getting ready to start!!! Ughh do I have bad timing or what? Maryse has anyone ever mentioned that you should write a book? Love just the way all your blog comes together and the easy flow of it.. I truly think you’d be a fantastic author!
Congratulations! You did a fabulous job pulling all that together. No idea what I was doing but I know it wasn’t nearly as fun!!
Fri night I met my ex husband for weekend drop off of the kids then went to Walmart. Sat night was girl night with my sisters-in-law.
Quiet night in with the kids, watching movies & reading Jocelynn Drake’s Asylum Tales (them watching, me reading:).
Not sure what I was doing Friday night, but I know I was wishing I was in Orlando.
I was on vacation with my family and we went to an arcade and to play mini golf! I wish I could say it was a lot of fun but with 3 little ones I’m going to hope one day it will be:) Thanks for the chance to win!

I had at blast at book bash! I traveled from Jersey and I can’t wait to go to book bash 2014. I’m hoping its in another southern state. I will be entering the mind of the swoon worthy Dean Holder! I will continue reading Colleen Hoover’s Losing Hope.

I wasn’t doing anything on the 28th. I’m pretty sure I was reading something, trying to drown my sorrows because I couldn’t be at Book Bash.
How fun!! I hope one day to be able to go to one of these
Wow, that’s so cool to hang out with that group! Paul……sigh..he’s so beautiful ;D
Hmm, on Friday I was working at the library. Not a very exciting evening. So let’s just pretend I was in Bora Bora on a secret mission!
I was watching a movie with my husband but my mind wasn’t on it since I couldn’t stop thinking about Book Bash and which authors I had to meet! And what a success! I was able to meet some of favorites and discover new authors too. Can’t wait for next year!!!
Wish I could have been at BB!

I am SO UPSET that i missed your hubs, Paul AKA Rehv. Sigh. OF COURSE i would miss him 🙁 just my luck. Book Bash rocked, and Dr. Ivan even proposed to a hunky man-friend of mine 😉 Can’t wait till the next one!
LOL Juli!
Okay that Dr. Ivan tidbit you just shared sounds hilarious and I’d love to hear more. 😉 And er… ummm. Are you upset that you didn’t get to meet my hubs AND Paul? Or my hubs… “Paul” ’cause that just made me giggle. Tee hee!!
Paul is a friend. Actually, a friend of my hubs. LOL!! But both were there, and I’m sure would have loved to meet you, too!
I absolutely loved Out of Breath!!! I cried, screamed, yelled, laughed and just sighed to finally see this character have her happy ending! I felt like I had just completed a triathlon and won the gold!!! It was definitely worth waiting for and one of the best trilogy’s I have ever read:)
