Amy Harmon, A Girl called Samson. Excellent read. Amy never fails. 5 Stars
Loved it!!
I just keep buying books, collecting them, and do very little actual reading anymore. π Still excited to see new titles.
Iβm having a real bum weekend. I said I needed to sage last night for good juju and I never got to it. So, Iβve been trying to rehome my puppy for over a month now. She is nearly 10 months now and I never thought it would be so hard. I thought sheβd have tons of interest and Iβd just have to sift through and find the perfect match. Well, maybe I shouldβve done it sooner. But, I hate failing and thought we could work it out. She has always had it out for my cat, obsessively, I canβt get her to stop chasing him. And Iβve tried all the training tricks. But, more importantly, when she was 5 months, almost 6 months, she growled and lunged off the couch charging at my youngest for approaching us (she and I) and reaching to pet her offhandedly. The 2nd time she did it was only a week later and the same situation. I spoke with a trainer, it was Xmas time, she was due for a spay- life was chaotic. We chose to wait it out and werenβt totally sure the shy of it. Thought maybe it was just him. Anyway, she did the same with my hubs when sitting with my daughter on the couch. Iβm guessing resource guarding of the couch and/or ppl she sits with. Itβs been 2 months since then and I have put so many things into action to make sure it doesnβt happen again- but I canβt do it anymore. Itβs wrecking my already anxious self. And so Iβve posted her for rehome, spoken to additional trainers (they would work with her, but itβs also managing her environment, and these kids make it too hard for me, here, so I opted out) and reached out to a few rescues. Iβm at a loss and heartbroken. Iβve had 2 rehomes fall though, the only real interests, bc of a job and also a senior dog with ailments. Just needed to vent, I know you dog lovers get it.
Ugh I do get it.
There are definite safety issues, and your tiny boy to worry about. I’m sorry you are having a hard time. Puppies are the worst. LOL!!! I have struggled for the entire first year of my Daniff’s life (he’s huge, and sweet but a complete wreck). Scratched our floors up, can’t stop chasing after my tiny girl dogs (one now π ) because he wants to play.
He’s got a great temperament and so lovable and so patient, but he’s a big lug and knocks everything around when he gets the zoomies (which is ALL THE TIME, because he’s just a big over excited puppy). He finally just turned a year old. I will be happy when he calms down. 150lbs of insanity.
When we first got him, I was not his biggest fan… puppies are so demanding. I adore him now, but we’ve still got a way to go before he’s calm.
Holy cow, 150lb!! I could not, no way. π I love big, tender dogs, for other people though. Hehe.
My girl was a spitfire from the start, but I can deal with normal puppy stuff. Potty training, teething, crate training, etc. Because I know itβs short lived, for the most part. But real behavioral issues, holy crap did I spiral down a rabbit hole of despair and anxiety with each episode. I tried everything I could. And we trained right from the start too. The problems first arose with first puppy training classes. At home, and she showed them there once what I was talking about, going after another puppy. Except for me it was worse, because it was my child. And all my kids never once did anything to provoke that behavior. No petting when she was tired or sleepy, never messed with her food or climbed on her, etc. So, I felt like I was walking on eggshells for 6 months. Learning her ticks and heavily monitoring body language and our living space when kids were in the room. And then it happened to the hubs and I spiraled with my anxiety over it again- contacted more trainers. And was told it would have to be something we managed for the rest of her life, in addition to crazy expensive training that was no guarantee. Ultimately, I didnβt think I could provide all that she needed to succeed here and my rehoming post scared people, I think. Rescues wouldnβt take her because of the liability- even though she hadnβt bit, sheβs a little higher on the aggression scale I think. Like, think of a dog fight, before teeth, but all the snarling and clashing together, lunging, growling, air snapping- thatβs the rage she goes into. And itβs hard to snap her out of it. She was leashed at all times and I didnβt want to live that way- 4eva. I didnβt want a muzzled puppy for a family dog either. I was at the point I was going to have to call the dog warden and shelters to see what I could do, because I couldnβt find her a home on my own and I had been trying for quite some time. But, she went to doggy daycare once a week since she was a baby, and the same place she gets groomed and they were attached and fully informed of my troubles, and her groomer wanted her. She had never seen her aggression as of yet, but was aware. Anyway, a couple days ago, after meeting with a retired couple, we came home, she got something in her mouth and I was trying to get it out- not something she shouldβve swallowed- Iβve done this countless times before, and always traded with her. But this time, she attacked me in the same way. I had thought I knew her ticks, though I knew they could progress, and more so, thought I was safe bc Iβm her favorite and we shared a different level of trust and comfort. So, I talked to my groomer and said I couldnβt rehome her like this, I didnβt trust her in my home, I canβt leave my oldest with her anymore, etc, etc. and she took her. Theyβre angels over there. She assumed all responsibility and liability and I truly hope it works out. I am free as of yesterday and I feel so many mixed emotions from it.
This was a good time for us to get a dog, we no longer had a senior, the kids were older, but after this experience, Iβm emotionally traumatized and will not be getting another dog- probably ever. But, will re evaluate in a decade, when the cat has passed and the kids are grown. Maybe Iβll still be a cat person. π€·ββοΈ
I feel for you though, so much. I still miss my guy terribly- he was honestly the best dog Iβve ever had in my life.
