Happy Birthday, Grey!

Wow, August is a HUGE birthday month. Of my friends here, there’s been Tessa, Robin, Maryse, and now Grey (am I missing any?). And personally, my aunt on the 21st, my grandson on the 22nd (SQUEE!!), my mother-in-law on the 23rd, and my middle son on the 25th. Then on top of that, my anniversary is on the 27th. Geez!

Michele G August 24, 2018 at 10:41 AM

Happy Birthday Grey!! Hope it’s an awesome day!

Nay August 24, 2018 at 11:17 AM

What are you doing for your birthday, Grey?

Amy August 24, 2018 at 12:01 PM

Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward is on sale for 1.99, down from 5.99…RHAGE!!!

Maryse August 24, 2018 at 12:07 PM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREY!!!!!! I hope today is your best day yet!!!! <3 :D !!!!!!

Maryse August 24, 2018 at 12:07 PM

*sulks at the birthday-cake martini… stupid keto forcing me to have regular martinis only* ;)

R. Renee August 24, 2018 at 12:14 PM

It’s not quite the same Maryse, but vanilla vodka has the same calories as regular vodka and only one carb per 1 oz serving so it might be an option! A friend introduced me to it in Austin as a “wedding cake” when mixed with club soda/sparkling water.

R. Renee August 24, 2018 at 12:15 PM

For the rest of you not doing keto, this is the Boozy Friday cocktail I posted for her in my group this morning:

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Ingredients:
1/2 oz edible glitter
1 handful cotton candy
champagne
edible confetti for garnish

Method:
1. Add the cotton candy and edible glitter to a Coupe glass (or old-timey champagne glass as I call it).
2. Top with champagne.
3. Dust edible confetti over the top and toast Grey a happy birthday!

Jean August 24, 2018 at 1:33 PM

Yum! R, that sounds good!

I was at a party last weekend where they had strawberies soaked in vanilla vodka…. tasted like strawberry shortcake!

R. Renee August 24, 2018 at 1:34 PM

ooooohhh Jean that sounds amazing! And I bet it’s keto friendly!

Jean August 24, 2018 at 1:38 PM

Yep, and I could use some right now…… to celebrate Grey’s birthday of course!

Maryse August 24, 2018 at 1:44 PM

Oooooh Amy you got me right!! The Date sounds crazy-creepy!!! :D

Grey August 24, 2018 at 1:49 PM

*cues Kesha* “The party don’t start till I walk in…”

Am I setting off my own confetti and glitter cannon today? I mean.. I will, being the party girl around here and all. *snags a birthday cake martini in one hand and Robin’s cocktail in the other* Woohoo, being the birthday girl on a Friday night is a GREAT thing! *Stomps on the pedal to release all the birthday confetti and glitter* Sorry, I couldn’t wait!

Seriously though, I do appreciate all the birthday wishes… my birthday is usually a big downer. I don’t know… Life, you know? anyway, I love reading my birthday wishes, they bring a smile to my face, so I truly do appreciate each and every one of you for taking a moment out of your day to wish me well. Thank you! *big group hug*

I’m finally home from vacation. Gah, I’m so tired. LOL! It was a pretty noteworthy trip. I had an episode of anaphylaxis…so that was, um, terrifying. We had some issues with our RV (the ac stopped working) um, this thing cost us a BUTT load of money, it’s under warranty, so it will be fixed, but we were 500+ miles away from home and it was HOT. So we wound up buying an A/c unit to put in the window… ugh. I am so sunburned, and I reapply sunscreen religiously. Sigh. Then kid 3 winds up getting motion sickness on the way home. And we had ridiculous traffic jams. However, we got home safely, so there’s that…and the kids were all well behaved… and really the weather cooperated for the most part, so it could have been so much worse. Just still, you know how the trip home sometimes takes SO much longer than getting there, because you are so ready to just sleep in your own bed. Yeah, that’s where I’m at. I need a vacation to recover from my vacation!

Someone asked what I’m reading. Um, I just finished an ARC of Austin by Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow on the way home last night. I’m not sure what I’m reading today. I have another ARC… and all of my monthly challenge reads still. (eek, I probably should open up September threads, make sure all the GR girls pop in later tonight, I’ll open those up!)

Someone got the cliff notes version for me about what’s going on around here??

Jean August 24, 2018 at 1:56 PM

Wow Grey, that was a memorable vacation for sure! Hope you have a relaxing weekend!

How did you like Austin? I love Jeannine!

I’ll leave it to bev to give you a synopsis of this week’s events. She’s so good at it!

Maryse August 24, 2018 at 2:19 PM

GASP! Nobody set off the glitter yet??????

*starts popping balloons*

ahhhhh there it is!! :P

Grey August 24, 2018 at 2:50 PM

Ohhh! The best part though, geez!! My youngest, he is obsessed with marine animals. He wants to be a marine biologist when he grows up. ( I know, he’s little and it will probably change a million times between now and then, but whatever) So, while swimming in the ocean… we got an up-close and personal visit several times from dolphins! It was WICKED cool! He was on cloud nine.

Amy August 24, 2018 at 3:22 PM

*slides Absolut wild tea martini over to Maryse*

Oh MAN, Grey…that sounds like a rough time. At least your boy was able to get an amazing experience, though. ;)

Amy August 24, 2018 at 3:24 PM

Maryse, right?? I have to REALLY be in the mood for a thriller read but that one was an immediate one-click, and I’ll be reading it soon!

Grey August 24, 2018 at 4:14 PM

We ate so much food. LOL! And would you believe, I didn’t have one drop of booze. WTF, right? So… let’s have a big old party tonight here on the blog. LOL!

Jan August 24, 2018 at 6:50 PM

Oh Grey! Lots of ups and downs on your holiday! Well, I hope you have an awesome birthday!! *slides a birthday cake martini to Grey* There you go.

Grey August 24, 2018 at 7:13 PM

So glad to be home and just do NOTHING today. LOL. How is everyone? What is everyone’s plans tonight/this weekend? What are we reading?

Maryse August 24, 2018 at 9:26 PM

My plans are laying in bed while the cooking channel plays in the background while I read. It’s quiet, my puppies are snuggled with me, and it’s raining. I’m happy. :)

Leslie M August 24, 2018 at 10:05 PM

*grabs a cocktail and raises glass to Grey for a very Happy Birthday*

JR August 24, 2018 at 10:06 PM

Happy birthday Grey! I haven’t posted in forever but have been lurking. I finished The Idea of You this week and couldnt sleep for 2 days because I kept thinking about it. It consumed me! My family made fun of me. Reading Drive now.

Jan August 25, 2018 at 2:47 AM

Oh that sounds so nice Maryse.

JulieO August 25, 2018 at 5:08 AM

Hope you have a WONDERFUL DAY GREY

Melinda August 25, 2018 at 6:28 AM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREY throws glitter bombs twirling everywhere.

I have just finished Emma Scott’s book “Bring down the stars “ and I loved it. So if you are looking for a good book that’s the one. Although it ends on a cliffhanger. I don’t like cliffhangers. So I have to wait to finish.

Recommendations for a new book?

Grey August 25, 2018 at 12:29 PM

First football game of the season for us. *still so tired from vacation* LOL! I did just post the challenges for next month on GR, if you’re interested!

Amy August 25, 2018 at 1:21 PM

Football games mean Fall for me. As well as…

PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES IN FOUR DAYS!!! :D

Although, I’m a little torn about drinking them before Labor Day. *shrugs*

Tasha J August 25, 2018 at 2:09 PM
Tasha J August 25, 2018 at 2:10 PM

Pumpkin spice comes out the 1st day of preschool!! I need the comfort and relaxing feel of that treat.

Amy August 25, 2018 at 2:18 PM

There’s a Game of Thrones marathon on HBO right now and I am dying for season 8. But I just heard it might not be until next SUMMER, not April!

Lady Olenna just dropped the mic. I hope I grow to be an old lady just like her. And if you’ve seen the show, you know why. *giggle*

It’s cloudy with a chance of rain (and the smoke is finally clearing out!), I have my hot tea with milk, the laundry is going, and now I just have to decide what to read next. Lighthearted? Angsty? Heartwarming? HeartWRENCHING? Small town? Big city? College? Young adults? GROWN adults? *sigh* I love having the world at my fingertips on my iPad…

Amy August 25, 2018 at 2:19 PM

Treat yourself, Tasha! You’ve earned it. ;)

MichelleS August 25, 2018 at 3:25 PM

Missed so much!

Happy Belated Birthday Grey!

Let me get caught up…

MichelleS August 25, 2018 at 3:26 PM

Whoever reminded me to read “One” the spinoff novel from Jack & Jill series… a thousand kisses to you. So so good.

Rhage? My favorite book in the series. My favorite “brother”.

MichelleS August 25, 2018 at 3:30 PM

GOT marathon!?!? I’m all caught up, but I miss the characters.

I’m doing Keto. For a week now. Not one pound lost. WTF? My hubby has lost 5 lbs already. Boo.

Amy August 25, 2018 at 4:18 PM

MichelleS, maybe your body is just gearing up to drop a bunch of weight? I don’t know…I’m just trying to be positive and encouraging for you. *shrugs*

And OMG I miss the characters, too! I swear if Jon Snow dies, it will be heartbreaking.

If Daenerys dies, it will be devastating (and will only be made a teensy bit better by her being reunited with Drogo in the afterlife).

If Drogon dies, it will be a crushing loss.

But if Tyrion dies? Oh, it will be f*&$ing war. I’ll start a riot.

Jan August 25, 2018 at 6:01 PM

Melinda and Amy, have you read Binding 13? Might fill the bill for you. Paula and I both really liked it. It’s first in a new series. NA, bullies, rugby players, set in Ireland. (I know). I like the last two, but NA and bullies aren’t usually my fav. But there was just something mesmerising about this book. I got drawn right in and I just had to keep on reading.

bev August 25, 2018 at 7:38 PM

Michelle S, Not Keto but I lost 4lbs and then promptly fell off my plan, lol. We will have to cheer each other on.

Melinda August 26, 2018 at 1:51 AM

Thankyou Jan, I was looking for a new one. But just started an Alice Clayton one. Next.

Amy, I always have washing to do. House cleaning, cooking and never ending stacking the dishwasher and unstacking. But I’m going to read. Because it never stops.

Amy August 26, 2018 at 11:22 AM

Jan, I have it downloaded but haven’t read it yet. I remember the raving going on about it and one-clicked it immediately. ;)

Melinda, right?!? GAH! I ended up scrubbing the bathrooms yesterday (WHY did I think 3 bathrooms would be no big deal when we bought this house? ) before I finally sat down to read. And by scrubbing I mean the baseboards, the crevices of the faucets and sinks, the cupboards, EVERYWHERE I could reach. You’re so right…it never stops.

NAY!! Are you ready for the finale of Sharp Objects this evening???

Tessa August 26, 2018 at 12:56 PM

Amy, OMG, right? If Tyrian dies, just NOPE. Also, my favorite is Anya, so… her nope as well. That said, wouldn’t it be interesting if Tyrian ends up king in the end? Just saying, he’d be a good king.

bev August 26, 2018 at 12:58 PM

I just need Martin to finish and release the last book already.
Though I’m thinking that is just a lost hope now.
Thinking of the books makes me think of Michelle, lol.

Tessa August 26, 2018 at 1:01 PM

MichelleS, I feel ya. My problem is I get debiliting stomach pains from doing keto. I just can’t. I don’t eat only breads, but a carbs helps keep everything from cramping. I

Amy August 26, 2018 at 3:10 PM

Arya is a bada$$. Plain and simple. I loved the scene where Brienne and the Hound were talking about her like a couple of proud parents, LOL!

And YES! I’ve always thought Tyrion would make an amazing king! Unfortunately, I think the only way it would happen would be if both Jon and Daenerys die and he HAD to become king. He seems to be the least power-hungry character on that show, yet he’s the best advisor to the rulers. I WANT SEASON 8 NOW!!!

bev August 26, 2018 at 3:14 PM

I’m still reading Ravensong from last week. It’s really good just busy. Then onto By The Book, the Persuasion retelling, that I had planned on reading at the same time.
After that Pas De Deux by Lynn Turner and My Perfect Life ….finally.
So slowly but surely.

I watched a movie Spellbound that was pretty fun.
And started Meteor Garden which is ridiculous but fun? Lol

Amy August 26, 2018 at 3:14 PM

bev…I was talking to a donor the other day, and she said she was going to be soooooo p!ssed if he died before he finished the last book. LOL!! What made it even funnier was hearing her say it in her very proper, very articulate English accent. :P

bev August 26, 2018 at 3:16 PM

I think Tyrion is great as an adviser….the power behind the throne. He better freaking live.

bev August 26, 2018 at 3:17 PM

Seriously, I appreciate the artistic temperament but come on. It is a bit of a disservice to fans.
English accents make everything better.

Tessa August 26, 2018 at 3:42 PM

I am glad I’m not reading them since I’d be going insane and would refuse to watch what happens on the show. That said, I do want to read them now. I’m just stuck at a sad part I KNOW is coming because of the show. lol
