<— OH EM GEE!!!!! Okay for those of you that knew I was DYING to read this (OMG the blurb!!!) and we were planning another spooky buddy read, this book (The Girl With All the Gifts) JUST WENT ON SALEΒ (it’s like over $10 usually). *gasp* I just TOTALLY ONE-CLICKED IT!! AMY???!!! AMYYYYYY let’s read it!Β Oooooh this list couldn’t have come at a better time, ’cause a few of us were about to read that one over there to the left. Another scary buddy-read!!!
And not just that one went on super sale either. The book industry is preparing us for Halloween quite creepily, ’cause SO many awesome looking psych-thrillers, zombie, ghost stories and hauntings and plain ol’ horror is on sale!!!
- The Girl With All the GiftsΒ byΒ M. R. Carey <— THEY HAVE TO STRAP HER DOWN BEFORE CLASS ALERT!! This is the one me ‘n Amy and hopefully a few more were wanting to buddy read together. Come on yous guys!!!! Let’s huddle in our blank fort again. I’m still looking for that super-horror that will force me to keep my lights on for nights on end! Maybe this is it?
- Heart-Shaped BoxΒ by Joe Hill <— STEPHEN KINGS SON ALERT! Megan recommends this one! “I read only one or two scary books a year and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill is one that all this time later I still get creeped out about. Let me know if anyone tries it.” and Cindy agrees! “I have to mention 2 books that were great! They are always so hard to put into a category! β¦ Horns and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Both have creepy-ish moments but also some gasp worthy moments/plot twists. He writes such cool stories!! Iβm not sure what HSB is classified as but to me it is in part a love story, def not our traditional, but still it is.Β
“
NOS4A2Β by Joe Hill <— STEPHEN KINGS SON ALERT & Anna loves this one! “I love everything by Joe Hill! So far Iβve only read Horns, Heart Shaped Box, and NOS4A2- but all were fantastic!… Heβs such a great story teller!”
- The Hellbound HeartΒ by Clive Barker <— PINHEAD HELLRAISER & I HAVE A STORY ABOUT HIM ALERT!! Is this the one that inspired the movie? OMG THAT MOVIE SCARED THE POOP OUT OF ME! And then… that’s not all. Okay one time, I was at my friend’s house and she had a HUGE lifesized cardboard cutout of Pinhead (like a movie advertising swag thingie for theaters that stand there and creep you out and stare at you and stuff)… anyway… it was hung up on her wall. And he ALWAYS creeped me the heck out. Maybe she should have too, going to sleep in a room with that horrific creature. LOL! Anyway, so one time, we were having a sleepover (likely after one of our horror-movie marathons) and then we were sleeping, and we heard a noise. *rrrrriiiiiiiipppp* *thud*!!! It woke us both up with a start. And we were all… what was that?!! And I looked up and HE WAS GONE!!!!! *gasp*
- The Stepford WivesΒ byΒ Ira Levin <— CREEPY PERFECT TOWN WITH THE CREEPIER PERFECT WOMEN ALERT!! Yeah this one is definitely a little… soulless.
- Soulless (Parasol Protectorate Series Book 1)Β byΒ Gail Carriger
- Help for the Haunted: A Novel (P.S.)Β byΒ John Searles <— HER HAUNTED SOUL HELPING PARENTS WERE MURDERED ON A JOB ALERT! Β “Sylvie Masonβs parents have an unusual occupationβhelping βhaunted soulsβ find peace. After receiving a strange phone call one winterβs night, they leave the house and are later murdered in an old church in a horrifying act of violence.”
- The Bird EaterΒ byΒ Ania Ahlborn <— CREEPY HAUNTED HOUSE ALERT! “Holbrook House is but a shell of what it once was, a target for vandals and ghost hunters who have nicknamed it βthe devilβs den.β Aaron doesnβt believe in the paranormalβat least, not until a strange boy begins following him wherever he goes.”
Lie Still: A NovelΒ byΒ Julia Heaberlin <— TRYING TO ESCAPE HER STALKER ALERT! “When Emily Page and her husband move from Manhattan to the wealthy enclave of Clairmont, Texas, she hopes she can finally escape her haunted pastβand outrun the nameless stalker who has been taunting her for years. Pregnant with her first child, Emily just wants to start over. But as she is drawn into a nest of secretive Texas womenβand into the unnerving company of their queen, Caroline WarwickβEmily finds that acceptance is a very dangerous game.“
- NOCTE (The Nocte Trilogy Book 1)Β by Courtney Cole <— DARK READ PSYCH-THRILLER ALERT! “My name is Calla Price. Iβm eighteen years old, and Iβm one half of a whole.Β Β My other half– my twin brother, my Finn– is crazy.Β I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though Iβm terrified heβll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me.” and Tasha went CRAZY for it! “I bought Nocte by Courtney Cole and was absolutely captivated from the very first page. Heck even the forward had me wiggling in anticipation. The story was AMAZING! I didnβt want to put it down, I was dying to find out the secretsβ¦oooooh the secrets!! Didnβt see them coming, I guessed and guessed and just when I thought I knew, nope not quite! I felt so connected to the characters and all the emotions.. I donβt want to give anything away because itβs best to go in completely blind. This was the first book I have read in so long that I didnβt skip anything, not even a little⦓
- VERUM (The Nocte Trilogy Book 2)Β by Courtney ColeΒ <— Jean is TOTALLY into these!! “Maryse, I think you would love these! I have some guesses as to whatβs going on but still kinda stumped! Verum is much darker and creepier than Nocte and I liked that!”
NO!!! No no no!! *jumps up and down in a temper tantrum* I paid full price for The Girl With All the Gifts the other day! Well, at least y’all are getting a good deal though. π Come on ladies, who’s joining us??
Speaking of that book Maryse, I had a REALLY weird dream last night that I started reading it before you but I wasn’t supposed to, and somehow you knew I was reading it without you so you kept leaving comments and shooting me emails telling me to STOP. *snorrrrrt*
And aside from all those great deals up there (seriously, THANK you for letting us know!)…
…what the freaking hell about the Pinhead cutout?!? Did she ever find it or was it just gone for good??
LOL!!!!!
Amy… he FELL.
He unpinned himself (or was it tape???) from the wall and tumbled down to the floor. The noise was him coming down…
We picked him up and threw him out the next morning. CREEPY!
Amy. Did you start reading it? Telllllll the truuuuuuuth. π
Just 1 clicked TGWALG. When are y’all doing the group read? Have you started?
Yaaaaay! I think I have to read this one as well π It’s screaming my name when I look at it *gasp* I guess you’re all asleep now, so I can start before you π Moahahahah. We’ll se!
Thanks, Maryse.

BUT!!! I am ALSO reading November 9. My review is coming up this week. π
That said. I’m also reading our scary!!!
I cannot recommend Joe Hill’s books enough! The scariest book I ever read was Gerald’s Game by Stephen King. For real, I read it when I was 19 and still lived at home. I ended up throwing it across the room and running INTO MY MOM’S ROOM AND SLEEPING ON HER FLOOR.
That scary.
Until I read Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. It scared the bee-jeezus out of me. I read it when it first came out and I am still afraid of it.
NOS4A2 was also amazing. Not as scary for me, but definitely worth a read.
Also, if Lisey’s Story by Stephen King is ever on sale, drop everything AND BUY IT. One of the most hauntingly beautiful love stories ever told. It was the book that, for me, made me realize that every marriage (or enduring couplehood) has its own language. I read it so many years ago, and to this day I still find myself quietly smiling when I notice my husband and I say something to each other that only we would understand. It makes me think of that book. And really, that book gave me that gift. <3
Oh Allison that sounds WONDERFUL!!!! *sigh* I want to read it.
Allison, thanks for the recommendation. I own Lisey’s Story, physical copy, haven’t read it yet but definitely moving it up my TBR list.
Thanks Allison π So wonderful.
Cannot wait for the rest, KAT Paradise π
I feel like I am internet famous for being quoted on your site, you made my day. I thought of one more to share with your group: I read Manel Laurio’s Apocalypse Z trilogy and it was really good. He’s Spanish and I had to wait for each book to be translated on Kindle before reading. I was so desperate for the third one I downloaded it in Spanish thinking it would all come back to me from college… I read the first four pages and only got out of it something about air, wind or heavy breathing? Basically my Spanish sucks. Bottom line: all three are in English and are worth it. A lawyer and his cat trying to survive zombie apocalypse! Thanks again for letting me be a part of your group- I pre-ordered the new KA, can’t wait to see what we all think of it.
Yay MEGAN!!!! I’m so glad you are a part of our group!!! *big squeeeeezy hug*
