More fantastic sounding recommendations and I swear it seems EVERY book on this list could get any of us out of a reading rut. Well, right off the bat, I know THREE below rocked my world at a 5-star level, so if you haven’t read ’em yet, DO IT!!! π *waggles eyebrows*
P.S. Set In StoneΒ by Rachel RobinsonΒ ALSO RELEASED TODAY!!! and I absolutely LOVED her other book Crazy GoodΒ (<— my review and I 4.5 starred it ’cause it was CRAZY GOOD!!) ————->
MicheleF: OH MAN⦠I am in such a reader rut right now! I hate when this happens. I hope some of your recommendations help!!!
Michele. This list IS IT!!!
Now, of course, I got out of my reading rut with KultiΒ (<— my review)… but sheeeeeesh. It’s been what? 2? 3 days now? And I still haven’t jumped back in full-force. BELOW? This is the list for me. For sure I’m starting one from one of these adamant recommendations…
P.S. Let me know if Iβm missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
AND a reminder:Β Β for those accessing my blog via their mobile device (phone or tablet) youβll noticeΒ the look of it has changed (for now, thatβs the βmobile compatibleβ version and Iβm hoping we can get it close to the usual βlookβ while still keeping it βmobile friendlyβ). On a desktop computer/laptop the look of the blog is the usual one.
EBOOK BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONSΒ (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).

Athena absolutely LOVES it She cried, she was furious and she’s hooked!!! “So I just finished an EPIC of a story and I want to urge you all to read this AMAZING story!! ‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah’ was by far of one of the most beautiful stories even written!! It really was one of those book that took you in from page one and still has a hold on me even though it’s sadly over for me! Here’s my review.

Andrea: “Just finished Traveling Woman by Jane Harvey Berricks. What a sweet finish. Yes relief! It’s the slow steady kind. Not the earth shattering kind but just as awesome πΒ ” and Sheena agrees! “Just finished The Traveling Woman byΒ Jane Harvey-BerrickΒ the sequel to The Traveling Man, this second book was just as magical as the first one and a great sequel, you really should read it.” #1 was really good… here’s my review.

No Reverse and Fast Forward BoxsetΒ byΒ Marion Croslydon <— TEEN PREGNANCY/ADULT REPERCUSSIONSΒ ALERT! Amy almost read this one but was halted when she read a few spoilers in a review. GAH!!! I’m sorry Amy!! And so is Cheryl, ’cause she enjoyed these, saying: “Amy, nooooo, Iβm so sad that you read a spoiler about No Reverse/Fast Forward because I read them and it was great!! A constant level of angst and well-written.” and B loved it, too: “Also, finished βNo Reverseβ I was hooked, I kept going back and forth on how it will all end⦔ Oh look at the start of this blurb: “…Cassie O’Malley and Josh MacBride were the poster couple for quarterback/cheerleader romance until they starred in their own tale of teen pregnancy. No need to say: their shotgun wedding was low-key. But when there was no baby anymore, they went their separate ways…”
Β Whoa.

Β and this might spark your interest. Betty asked: “I need help finding this book! Someone recommended it, I didn’t jot down the name and here I am! It’s about a woman that’sΒ tutoring some 16 year old kid, and I think he’s got some issues. Then go through a plane crash of some sort, and wind up together on a deserted island. The angst, the coming of age, itβs so so good. It may end up a 5-star for meβ¦ we shall see later tonight. (The Charlotte Chronicles)” YAY!! ‘Cause if MichelleS thinks it’s an “Amy” read, then it’s totally a “Maryse” read, and MichelleS is pretttttty picky which means if she’s loving it, I’m likely loving it! π *happy dance* “How do you hold on to the person you know in your heart you are supposed to be with when everything and everyone in the universe is telling you it’s over?“

Kulti. Finished. The face mask scene was too sweet. I have to say it was definitely Sal who made the book. Love heroines like this. I kind of wish there had been just a little more time with them at the end. But that’s a tiny thing.
Strawberries for Dessert, I stayed up until 3 reading that book, lol.
Now where to go? I was thinking Hooker & Hermit to stay with sports & funny, plus my tbr. But Burying Water sounds so intriguing.
She did!!! I loved Sal. I could totally relate to her. She’s hilarious and doesn’t even realize it.
Okay…this post had me literally snickering and snorting the whole time I was scrolling through it. Y’all know me so well, LOL!! *muah!*
I was debating between Ten Below Zero (avoiding reviews so I have NO idea what will happen…yay!) and Burying Water, but once I saw MichelleS’s rec for The Charlotte Chronicles I was pretty much sold. Just waiting for her to finish it for her final opinion…she IS picky and I love her honest (sometimes brutally so) opinions!
I have to say one more thing about My Life Next Door…it’s one of those books for me where I loved, loved, loved it, and after not thinking about it for a while and then being reminded of it again now it is all I can think about. It’s just so…so…right. *snort* I have a way with words, eh? π
OK, I really want to read The Nightingale after Athena’s adamant recommendation, but $12.99? WTH!!
I made all my friends buy Love, in Duology today! Loved! I also loved Vixen and the Vet and the Masters at Arms series…. So good!!
Need. To. Read. Kulti!!!! I know I would love it…..
Jean, did ya see the OTI goading up there? Did ya? Did ya?? This weekend, my friend…THIS WEEKEND we are following through on our OTI/SGT deal, m’kay? After Kulti for you and Charlotte Chronicles for me, of course. π
Oh, oh, oh…MARYSE!! Just in case, ya know, you want to look like a princess for the RT convention ;): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WTDBq4I4UFU
The eyecolor part starts at about the 3:30 mark and is just beautiful!!
Oh my, Amy. *wiping tears* I just saw “prom” & “cinderella” and lost it. Ok ok go back and actually watch it.
Yes, anyone wants funny, read Boy Toy.
I’m torn. There are too many good books. Do I want to read Neanderthal Seeks Human, the Chicagoland book I’ve yet to read, Kulti? So many goodies!
I just finished Elements of Chemistry:Attraction. By 8% I was laughing out loud. At the same time, on TV, some guy was in a ring of fire, burning to death. Needless to say, I got a lot of odd stares. Oh, and finished Instinct, the Chronicles of Nick book. Awesome of course, but i expected that. When Kenyon does just great, it’s one of her “worst” books. My expectations are HIGH!
Now to read Kulti Neanderthal in Chicagoland.
Tessa, I liked in Elements of Chemistry neither of them know what they are doing, like leaving her at the party. I do love the quirky heroine voice.
LOL! Nice book mix-up, Tessa. π
I wanna look like a princess!!!! Okay off I go to check out this video.
YAY ME!!!
Her voice made the book, especially the random synonyms. It had me giggling like crazy.
All these great books in my TBR means I never have to buy a book again. Heck, I still have to read the last Cats and Bones book as well as the last Immortal Instruments book. Oh and the rest of the Kitty Norville books. I own those so no more buying needed by me. That’s why I pre-ordered Aflame, Salvations and Secrets, and My Time in the Affair.
Tessa, are those the Chloe Neil books? Seen them but never read them.
Amy, she looked beautiful. But made me nervous when putting the eyelashes on with the tweezers.
Hooker and hermit was good bev I liked it also vixen and the vet so very sweet
Ok so outlander I’m at the bit they have just managed to get Jamie out of jail …..
Bev, yep, Chloe Neil’s Chicagoland. Its a vampire series. Really well written and great dialogue. It’s one of my favorite vampire series.
Though, all the praise made me start Multi. I already adore her dad. π
“Now to read Kulti Neanderthal in Chicagoland.” <—– LOL!!! *covers mouth* Sorry… π
Aw Bev, I can get pretty emotional over little stuff as well so I feel ya. π And I still want to see Cinderella! Everytime I see a commercial and that dress *dreamy sigh* I want to buy some popcorn and candy and a big ol' soda and plop myself down in the theater.
The only thing I would do differently from the tutorial is not bring Omega (taupe-ish color) all the way over to the bridge of the nose but focus it more on the outer crease/upper lid so that it extends a bit above Quarry and works as a "blending" shade. And, of course, use some Urban Decay Primer Potion first. π *giddy giggle* I wanna go play with my makeup now!
Lol Amy! Yes I saw it! I just started The Life of Anna #5 (peer pressure from friends) so I will not be able to start SGT yet! But don’t let that stop you from reading OTI! Didn’t you see how much Maryse LOVES it!!!!
Good luck with Charlotte’s Chronicles…. Looks angsty! Keep us updated! Did you read Kulti yet, or Multi as Tessa likes to call it! Lol! (I know auto correct is a b!tch)!
Tessa, I want My Time in the Affair too! Looks good!
Ok,.Laura going with H&H. Need to finish up a mystery I had started then off to New York & Rugby players.
Tessa, yes her dad! Maybe she’ll write a book about the brother and he’ll be like the dad.
Just downloaded a sample of a book called Forever Red by Carina Adams….sounds right up our book alley. Bad boy country singer runs into girl who broke his heart as a teenager….could be good!!!
Also remember Crazy Good by Rachel Robinson…. it was really crazy good:) Second book Set in Stone is out today!!!
So I too have been in a major book rut, can’t seem to get into a book and really feel it, I did start JRWard’s BDB #11, now I LOVE this series, but this one is not grabbing me, I was considering skipping this to go on to #12 & #13, which I hear amazing things about, anyone have any thoughts about this, will I miss anything important if I give “Lover at Last” a pass??
O_O I’ve just realised if Randell is really dead then there won’t be a frank now will there unless he already has a child somewhere?! Oh sheeiit
This book is not slow! It’s ultimate hatred first, but not slow. I absolutely love it. Yeah, Multi Kulti. I corrected the auto correct about five times, and still, one slipped through. *grins*
Lol Tessa!
Niki, I was looking for a book about a country singer! Thanks for that recommendation! And I loved Crazy Good!
Niki, I just 1-clicked Forever Red! Looks good and lots of 5 star reviews!
Oh Jean, doesn’t My Time in the Affair look so gut wrenching? Hide your head under the blanket gut wrenching? *squee*
Add on to that, Third Debt by Pepper Winters is supposed to be released next week. Which, that debt is scaring me!
Jean, if you start reading it you will have to let me know what you think!! I was thinking of either reading that or Tool next..
Ok help me out here I finished the first one now I’m on dragonfly in Amber and she’s bloody back!!? I keep rechecking to make sure I’m on the right book does it tell you what happens or what?
I keep thinking of that book, lol. Everything is reminding me. Prosthetic Love by Typhoon came on and right back thinking of it.
Tessa you finished Instinct. π Mine is sitting on my nightstand since I bought a hardcopy. I think it’s next for me after The Shadows, but I have such a backlog of “read next” right now that I feel like I’m scrambling to get through books. It doesn’t help that I have to keep adding to the list. lol
Laura…what I wouldn’t give to be able to actually hear you get all worked up over your books. *snicker* Sorry but I’m a sucker for Scottish accents. π
Oooooh Tessa and Jean, should we do a buddy read when My Time In the Affair comes out?? Yes, I’m inserting myself in the conversation and inviting myself to a buddy read! π I’ve been so antsy for that book since Maryse posted it in the preorders last month. So many coming out over this month and next that I can’t wait for! Under the Influence by L.B. Simmons, Here’s to Falling by Christine Zolendz, My Time in the Affair…so excited!! *clappy hands*
Oh, and now Forever Red too! How fun does that one sound? Thanks Niki! π
Joy, if MichelleS pops in here then she would be a good one to answer that. I can’t remember off the top of my head who else has read all 13 of them…ladies?
Laura I’ve only read the first so I’m no help. I always meant to go back and read the rest, which was a lot less at the time, lol.
One I really want to read this year is The Bronze Horseman.
Fabi, read it! I can’t say, oh, as opposed to the others, this is a game changer, because uh… all of them are. Still, it was good and of course, THINGS happened. Some of the things were obvious, but I think in this case, it was supposed to be. Like, a lesson for Nick to learn type supposed to be. Read it, and erm, that sentence will make sense.
Amy, definitely! Just bring your manatee. I think we’re going to need it. I was practically stalking Stylo Fantome (alright, on Goodreads and Facebook, but that’s my version of stalking!) after the Kane books, that as soon as she released what she was writing, I knew I’d have to read it.
Amy and Tessa, I’m in for that buddy read!
Bev, I’ve been wanting to read The Bronze Horseman for so long now too! It’s long so I really need to be prepared to set the time aside for that one! I’ve had it downloaded for a while now.
YAY!!! π What do you say, Maryse? Are you gonna join us or are you gonna have us guinea pig it first? Huh? *elbow nudges Maryse* Huh??
The Bronze Horseman…I remember snagging that one a while back when it was on sale and ohhhhhh does it sound good!
@ Jean, I know ‘The Nightingale’ is a little pricey but soooo worth it!! It’s a fantastic book with some of the most amazing writing I have ever read!!
I missed so dang much up there…. I guess I was too busy enjoying the h#ll out of The Charlotte Chronicles!!!! YES!!!! Easily 4.9 stars…. LOL…. my only complaint? Well… you know how there’s the boy gets girls boy loses girl thing we love? And then you think this is so dumb why they lost each other and seriously? why oh why? But then I remember that a ton of books have exactly that happen, so I am forgiving that plot element. Everything else was amazing. What I loved? A complete story. HEA. Fantastic Epilogue. Sexy. Angsty. I may have teared up or cried (not admitting to anything). Characters that I loved. YUP. It had it all. YAY!!!
And what’s this? I am uber picky? and brutally honest? man… I had no idea. Do I say bad stuff???
Bronze Horseman? LOVED IT. I mean seriously loved it. It’s a long commitment though. Have to read all of them to truly enjoy it. But Tatiana and Alexander are my second favorite couple ever (after Claire and Jamie). It’s that good.
No MichelleS… you’re DELIGHTFULLY picky!!! That’s not a bad thing! π
What are we guinea pigging? I gotta scroll up…
Joy – BDB skip ahead? hmm….. have to admit that 11 and 12 were duds… but they set up some story lines…. maybe if you read a really good review of the book that has all those elements (like a Cliff’s notes version!! ha). #13 was much better than the last few have been. Nothing compares to the first eight books, but this was a huge improvement over 9-12. I have never skipped a book in an ongoing series, so I have no idea how to answer that.
Oh no, MichelleS! You don’t say bad stuff at all…I just meant by brutally honest that you are blunt (in a GOOD way) in your opinions regardless of if the book is a well-loved one or not. And because you are particular about what you like and very straightforward, we love getting your opinion. *hugs*
Maryse, it’s My Time In the Affair…the title + the blurb = possible ANGST!!!! π I love that there’s no judging here.
“it’s My Time In the Affair” <—— Uhhhhhh, that sounded so wrong….
Jean, Can’t remember if you are one that uses the library or not, but I know mine carries Hannah.
Was sure I was going to read The Bronze Horseman on a snow day…..and one of the no snow years, lol. Maybe that’s good. It’s set in Russia so may be a good summer read. When it’s triple digits I can be reading about a Russian Winter.
You know what’s so funny? My husband and friends have the opposite opinion, thinking I am not at all picky and read anything and everything and trash! LOL. I am picky about my trash, dang it!
Is everyone done with Kulti? Am I totally behind and on my own on that one? It’s a stand alone, right? I am only in the mood for stand-alones right now. I think I have ADD or something. Can’t commit to too much more than one book at a time.
MichelleS, I hope it’s a standalone. That’s what everyone else has said. *grins* I’m not done with it! I’m only at 36%. Soooo, sooo good so far. As far as trash, they are either good writing trash, or bad writing trash. There’s a difference!
I borrowed Nightingale from my library. The library is God’s gift to book addicts. I save hundreds a year checking with libraries first. Mine even offers indie writers.
Just finished the awesome 4th book in JD Nixon’s Blood Tears series. Really good; slow burn, to the point of ‘will they or won’t they’ being a sincere question through out.
Now to find the next book… Have downloaded samples for a few, including Forever Red and Chemistry of Attraction. Hard to follow JD Nixon’s deeply fleshed out characters and scenery and mood…
Hi Michellef , have u read social media by J A HUSS , so so good , I’ve just started reading part six , oh and Sabrina paiges , prick and the next one is called tool.
Wow, I feel so behind after reading the comments and being in a book rut.
Laura, you are reading the right book and yes all will be explained in book 2. Awww, the end of Outlander was so horribly emotional and that rollercoaster continues in book 2. Just saying emotional!
I would live to jump in on the buddy read of My Time in the Affair. I absolutely loved the Kane trilogy. I will definitely be getting the Third Debt when that comes out. I’ve been a bit addicted to Charlotte Stein. They are short so I can finish them in a day but they pack a punch. Finished Sheltered last night and loved it.
Tessa – I also laughed out loud through Boy Toy Chronicles.
My next one is the 4th book in the Addicted series by Krista and Becca Ritchie. I foresee nothing getting done in my house today!
I would LOVE not live!
Well I finished Kulti yesterday and absolutely loved it! Yes Sal was the star for me but Kulti, for a man of little words, had some goosebump-inducing, swoon-worthy moments! I do not even really like soccer but it was not even a factor in connecting with the story at all. I wanted to start something new today but I’m finding that I want to stay with their story a little longer and nothing is looking good…another indicator for me that I just read a great one!
Amy, loved the cinderella eyes. I’m too old for that look, but loved it anyway!!
I’m always in for a good buddy read, so I’ll read My Time in The Affair!!
Charlotte Chronicles, Forever Red, Jag and Roxy, are a few that I’m thinking of reading next.
Amy, I’ve thought about Ten Below Zero, but honestly two words keep me from reading it, “Bright Side.” Not sure I can do that kind of book again.
Maryse… THANK YOU, THANK YOU so much for the recommendations there are some books I have been waiting to read. It felt like they would never be released.
My pleasure Michele!! π *hug*
Yay!!! More ladies for the buddy read of MTITA!! π I took a peek on GR to see if there were any beta readers/ARC readers who had reviewed it, and wow! So many 5 stars already. Of course, I did skip the actual reviews. π The one down side I can already see about it is that it is only 153 pages, but for .99 that’s okay…as long as there is a good dose of *oomph* in it then I’ll be happy! π
Cheryl…I really have no idea how Ten Below Zero will end (even with that blurb) since I’ve avoided reviews and spoilers, and that’s what I *love* when reading a book. And don’t say you’re too old for that look! I am definitely no spring chicken, and that look is very close to how I like to wear mine (minus the big, gorgeous eyes that she has ;))…those colors can work for anyone!
OMG Lorraine…Tool is the second book after Prick? *snort* Those titles are awesome…I can’t wait to see what the next one is going to be titled!
Juliane, do you ever use the library for ebooks or do you stick with regular books? I know there are some ladies on here who use the library quite a bit but I’m not sure if they are all for paper books or ebooks…
Started The Hooker and the Hermit. Like her inner voice but mostly I’m on his side right now. It would suck to have your look picked apart on a blog even if you are rich and famous.
Bev, is that what she is doing to him?? *scoffs* She IS a hooker…
Amy, lol. I like that IRL she’s a hermit but online just totally out there.
Not in a troll way, hate that and in no way understand it.
But she talks to herself, doesn’t make eye contact, and great at the awkward pause, lol. I’m so like that so I understand. Yet on here have no problem talking to you all. π
Tracy and Cheryl, definitely join us! The angst promises to be high.
Also, yeah, Tracy is another debt reader. From the comments in First Debt, doesn’t the third one worry you? Especially after how Second Debt ended? *hides eyes in fear* You all watch. I will probably end up reading it with my blanket over my head due to the eep factor.
Michelle, I just finished Kulti as well. It was so good. I get why for some it was slow, but I love a slow to build relationship. It felt so real and I didn’t get bored. I liked Sales. She felt real, and I wanted to hug her dad. I wish we had more of her brother. I’m so curious about him. I also loved Cece. She made it feel all the more real.
Just read Entice by S. Layne. Lots of angst, lots of sexiness, and then some more angst. It’s an emotional roller coaster, but I’m ready for the next in the series!
Tessa, I loved that she was just being a bratty sister. It did make it seem more real.
I know nothing about soccer, but I enjoyed the one on one games between them. They were fun.
P.S. Amy and crew… I’m in, too!
Cheryl have u read all the outlanders? I’m starting to see it’s going to be explained I just don’t know how!!!
Bev yes I was with him to as I wouldn’t like someone saying that stuff about me either!! It’s like when u look in the mirror and think ok not bad then u see a photo from later that night and think that’s not what I saw in the mirror!
Amy the rant in Scottish spelling would go- oh fir f*ck sake how am a even supposed to know if am oan the right book! And how did she end up back there!*gets through most of the book* aw right am kinda understawnin noo but how’s this gonnae go?!
Oh Sal’s Dad and his reactions had me cracking up. I wondered too why we didn’t get more Eric. The only negative like some others mentioned, is after all the slow build, I wanted more relationship time with them as a couple. Oh and I will be using the ‘poop’ method in the future I think haha.
I’m for sure in on a buddy read for the next Fantome book – already preordered! Loved her Kane Trilogy and yeah that blurb has me majorly wanting to read it now, hope it lives up to the anticipation right?!
Laura I’ve read all the Outlander books and just stick with them, because it will make sense and come together. They do some jumping around but I liked trying to figure it out. Sooooo jealous you get to experience them for the first time! Without a doubt, one of my all time favorites…they are spectacular and just wait for some of the upcoming books because like Cheryl says, emotional rollercoaster coming up!
Woot, we persuaded Maryse and Michelle to join us too.
I have yet to read Outlander. Phrases like “stick with it” probably says why, considering I got the book when I was about fourteen or fifteen. My fifteen year old self thought, “Eew, she’s married! Eew, first person. I hate first person. Eew, she’s WWII and I hate WWII. Eew, she’s… OLD!” One of these months, I’ll try it again. I can’t let my fifteen year old self determine if I like it or not. Especially, cause my fifteen year old self would say I’m old now. *frowns*
Tessa, when I was a little younger than that, my mom wanted to show me The African Queen(wonderful, btw) and I was, ” Are they old?”
I mean seriously? It’s Bogie & Hepburn. Now I love “older” romances. Time does have a way of kicking our younger selves in the butt.
One the the most charming “older” romances is the show As Time Goes By. Adore Judi Dench.
Im in for having an affair no no I mean joining you ladies buddy read of My time in the Affair
I think at the time, 30 was parental all done with romance age to me. (even though I knew that wasn’t true since my mom and dad met when mom was nearing forty and dad passed it) *grins* I think with movies, it was okay. Probably because I had a crush on Gene Kelly’s younger self. However, books? I had issues with 25+. I was a twit.
I’ll look into As Time Goes By. Charming is always a plus.
Hehehe Donna. Yeah! Another reading it! No one will be around that day, as they’ll be too busy reading.
YAY!!!!!! π How fun is this gonna be! And if it doesn’t live up to the anticipation (*cough* Michelle *cough*) then at the very least we’re getting a group read out of it…which can get really fun!
Ooooh, and then Anna brings up Entice…does it have a cliffhanger? ‘Cause me and CH’s don’t mesh well together. Nope, nope, nope. Not well at all.
And Bev, I’m really glad you have no problem talking to us on here! *squeezes Bev*
OMG Laura! *snorrrrrt* That was hilarious!! I seriously love ya for that. π
*snicker* Good one, Donna. π
Niki, I started reading Forever Red today and I can’t put it down! I’m loving it! Angst-filled story and Lia was definitely a stupid a$$, naive teenager. Can’t wait to see how this turns out for them years later. Loving Nate/Neil!! π
Laura, your rant had me spitting out my drink. Too, too funny.
Laura, love the rant!!
Yes, I’ve read all the books so far. Waiting impatiently for the next one. Keep reading #2, it will make sense with how it started!! I know I couldn’t wait for more Jamie time!! π
Now to watch Outlander tonight. Last weeks episode made me scratch my head. I don’t remember any Jamie POV and the part with him and Laoghaire at the water, I don’t remember that happening or Jamie knowing about the “bad wishes” plant thingy that was left in Claire’s room. Any body else watching??
Noooo Tessa, my ‘stick with it’ wording should be taken as meaning the time travel component jumps around some and the timeline accordingly so sometimes it takes a while to put it together. You should read it…if it’s any indicator since we like similar books, I’ve read the first book around 8 times and it’s in my top 10…probably top 5 all time favorite books!
I still have no idea what to read after Kulti…I might just go with one of the freebies I’ve been wanting to try?
Laura, love the rant. Scottish & Irish accents are the best.
Amy, Thank you……Can’t breath.;-)
Tessa, love that about your parents. Hope for us single ones, lol.
Gene Kelly love. I remember watching his & sinatra films over & over. Adored the two of them together. My favorite of his is, of course, Singing in the Rain.
I watch the show and yeah the last ep deviated from the book. Everything you mentioned Cheryl was added for TV. They still are following the main plot points though so I’m loving the show. The guy playing Jaime is PERFECT imo!
Quick update: I’m at 20% of The Nightingale (up there) and I’m loving it.
So thank you to those that recommended it. Historical, which I don’t usually read but captivating. SO GOOD!
Tessa! MUST READ OUTLANDER!!!!!
now scrolling up for the Laura accent rant that has everyone chuckling…
Michelle, I agree, I’ve liked all the cast so far for Outlander and Jamie is yummy!!
Cheryl, I started Forever Red last night and finished it today!! Oh the angst and Neil/Nate…I really liked this book although I wanted to strangle him a time or two:)
I am literally cross eyed. I just spent the last 10 hours straight reading Kulti. I haven’t done that in as long as I can remember. I got literally not one thing done today. It was fantastic. Loved it. The huge soccer fangirl in me was thrilled. Every time she said “poop” or called him a bratwurst, frankfurter, pumpernickel, or sauerkraut just about peed my pants. GREAT recommendation.
What is everyone reading now? Nightingale? That $13 one???? Expensive…..
YAY MichelleS!!!
*happy dance* I KNEW IT!!!!
Hahaha, I’m avoiding Nightingale majorly due to price. I still have so many to buy with all of the series I’m reading. Kulti was so good I knew I’d have to read something very different. So I found today a freebie, Savage Run (YA dystopian first of a series thing). And if I like it, yeah… more series books to buy… Grrr.
MichelleS, pretty much what I did. In the middle of The Hooker and The Hermit.
Scene where she was sent a room full of different flowers. She donated them which is wonderful. But I have to say I’d have to at least spend a day with them.
Has anyone ever seen the Gilmore Girls ep with A thousand yellow daisies? Would just need to sit in the middle of it for awhile, lol.
MichelleS, so as a fan you thought the soccer was done well?
On Maryse’s new list has any read the Donovan circus ones? They look fun.
And Kiss an Angel is just sooooo good!
Tessa I would recommend reading outlander it’s very long the 1st one but it’s good and they are really that old Jamie’s only 23! She’s 27 I think but it is good, I’m getting on on number 2 and I keep thinking she’s going to do somethin stupid again and they are going to have to run!!!
Just finished Forever Red. It was a fantastic, angst filled story. I spent most of the day reading it. Loved Neil/Nate (you’ll understand the two names when you read it) who evolved from a sweet teenager to a bada$$, tattoed, pierced, country star. (yeh I know I said country star not rock star)!!! I liked the heroine, Lia too, although I thought her “reason” wasn’t that big and that she was a stupid, naive kid; but of course there’s more to it than that.
Nikki, I wanted to strangle Neil and Lia a couple times!! π
I missed all the previous comments. I’ll eventually read Outlander. Bev, to a fifteen year old, 27 is old. π I wish we could hear that rant IRL. It was just pure perfection.
Michelle, that’s as high recommendation. Though, when I get to reading it, I reserve the right to glare… A lot!
First, Savage Run. I’m trying hard not to DNF it.
Oh, and Maryse. Must read Fallen Crest High!
*hugs*
Glad to hear that Cheryl! I think that is my next read… I could use a country star!!
Laura’s rant was great, right? *giggle* Told her I would love to hear it in person and she gives us the next best thing. π
MichelleS…okay, so I’m at about the halfway point in the Charlotte Chronicles and “stuff” has just happened, but there is still so much more to go in the book so now I’m wondering “what else could go wrong?” And we all know how dangerous it is to ask that. π The little bit of an issue I’m having is with dual POV because if it was just her then daaaaaaammmmmnnn this would be working me over, but with his POV it’s diluting thee angst a bit. Still, I KNOW there is gonna be some stuff coming up so I’m bracing for it!
*throws peanut at Maryse*
Yep, Fallen Crest High!
*looks around and whistles innocently*
Think I’ll read Charlotte Chronicles today too, since I didn’t realize My Time In The Affair release date is May 2, thought was this week and would be my next read. π
Tessa, so Savage Run is not so good huh? I downloaded it but it sounds like it’ll be ok if it gets buried in my tbr.
Actually, it picked up big time. The start was slow, but suddenly, boom, action. I’m enjoying it. Its a novella, so… It took way too much pof this tiny book to get anywhere, but now that it has, I can see they set you up to want the non-free books. Sneaky! *grins*
Bev: “so as a fan you thought the soccer was done well?”… YES… very much so. The entire book was centered around that theme. The entire thing takes place on and around a soccer field. Grueling Work outs. Coaching. Crazed fans. The whole nine yards. It’s living breathing soccer!!! So I am totally going to age myself here, but, I was just like the girl in the book when I was about 16. I was head over heels in love with Pierre Littbarski, the German soccer player in the 1982 world cup. So for me, this was a crazy good book – reliving all those feelings and that huge crush.
*boinked off nose*
OUCH!!! Ammmmyyyyyyy! *hrmph*
*cracks peanut and eats it*
*opens mouth like a baby bird for more*
π
‘kayyyyyy I get the hint. Tijan rocks… I already know this!
Nobody likes my circus list? GAH!!!!!
And yet… the books on that list were rocking worlds.
*sigh*
*Sits up straight*
* Raises hand*
“I read and liked Maryse’s list.”
“Maryse, MUST read…….*sigh*, eh give up.”
*Sticks hands in pockets*
*Kicks peanut shells*
*walks off*
π
*picks up peanuts that bev missed and eats ’em*
When I was younger I wanted to be in the circus then grew up and realised I was already in it π yep me loved the list!!
Maryse u are going to have to make a list titled : the good stuff we all read that Laura missed while reading all of the outlander series
……… I’d start with nightingale it might be a long list hmmm
Hungry, are we? Okay then… *grabs peanuts*
*throws peanut* Accidentally on Purpose… *throws peanut* …and Eleanor & Park… *throws peanut* …and The Holy Trinity series… *throws peanut* …and My Life Next Door…
Are we full yet?? π
*grabs Bev’s arm* Aw, don’t go Bev! Look…Laura’s here! *points to Laura* π
Wait, a circus list??? Now THAT sounds fun! I gotta go check this out…
The closest to a “circus” book I’ve ever read all the way through was Jeanine Frost’s Night Prince series. So I’ve never even read one really. Also, circuses freak me out. π
Bev, come on, there’s more peanuts. She’s hungry…
I am.
*opens baby bird mouth again*
Finish the Up in the Air series. *throws a peanut to her mouth*
Ooooookay
Done pouting.
* trucks bottom lip back in*
Eleanor & Park
* throws peanut*
Written in Red
*throws 5 peanut butter m&ms*
M&Ms. Sneaky!
You guys are funny:)
I’ll throw some peanut M&Ms toward Maryse for Written in Red too Bev!!
Off to watch GoT and then back to a new book that I found today that has me feeling all the feels!!
*makes headlong dive to snatch M&Ms out of the air*
*runs for cover with loot*
Fabi! That’s our briba… Hrm… Does this mean Fallen Crest wins?
Ha! Good save Fabi…Bev is trying to cheat! π
What’s the book, Niki?
Hey Tessa, she admitted up there that Tijan rocks…we’re making progress!
Just read my first graphic novel. Maybe should say comic? But definitely not for children, lol. Well can’t really say my first I did read Archie as a kid. I totally was a Betty fan.
Amy, it’s called Motown Throwdown by K.S. Adkins…I wasn’t so sure about the title but the blurb grabbed me:) She has a series called Detroit after Dark and I read the first one of that and it was good. I’m really enjoying this one so far..I’ll let you know how it is!
Just started Ugly Love. I feel like I should duck but I’m not sure about this one. Miles thoughts so far sound very dramatic and not sure the style is helping.
When he thinks, ” It’s the saddest door I’ve ever had to close.” I don’t think I was suppose to find this funny, but maybe because his voice is suppose to be teen?
Bev which graphic novel did you read? And did you like it?
*standing behind Maryse* I haven’t read any of those books you’re pelting Maryse with peanuts about!! Good thing I like peanuts and M&M’s!! π
*putting those books on my tbr*
Amy, the book My Life Next Door, do I need to wait for the companion book before reading this one?
I’m reading The Shadows. It has been so hard to stay away from spoilers on this one. I’m over 30% into it and think it’s safe to peek at a discussion that is supposed to be spoiler free. Wham! major spoiler with the first line I read. This is SO depressing. I have to say that I do not know a single other blog or website like Maryse’s. The respect here is unparalleled. Thank you Maryse, and all of you ladies, for making this a book lover’s haven.
Wow, I missed the whole “peanut gallery” fiasco here this weekend! You guys are too funny! Don’t you know, we can’t make Maryse read anything….. She is the one with the power to make us read the books she finds! Lol!
I have literally been emerged in Emerged this weekend. (Life of Anna #5). Finished this morning and absolutely loved it! Great conclusion to the series! It was much different than the first 4 books… Not as dark!
Starting Forever Red today!
I gotta get back to that series Jean. Honestly, I stopped because it wasn’t complete and swore I’d get back to it as soon as the last book was out. I am SO glad to hear it ends well. I mean, sheesh, there HAD to be a light at the end of that twisted dark tunnel.
Finished The Charlotte Chronicles this morning. It was great, but I’ve decided I need a book that doesn’t start with the H/h as kids or go back and forth from present day to them as kids/teenagers. That’s all I’ve read lately.
Need a good “adult” book.
Amy, am I right that My Life Next Door is about teenagers?
Now to find that good “adult” book!! π
Yes Fabi! It was a rough series, but so worth it. My friends loved the last book too so we are all happy now! Haha!
π I love us too, Fabi!!! We have the best group ever!!
Jean… LOL! You guys have made me read aplenty. π I LOVE your recommendations!
OH YAY!!! The peanuts have been upgraded to chocolate covered. YESSSS!!!!!
Keep pelting me with your book-nuts… you book-nuts! *snort* π
Wait for ittttttt……
*sideeyes Amy*
That “light at the end of the tunnel” with book 5 will help when I (eventually) start that series, Jean…but I think I’m really gonna have to be in the right mood for them. *shudders*
Cheryl, you don’t need to wait for and read the companion book to My Life Next Door as it is a standalone, but the companion book will focus on Jase’s sister and a guy friend of Samantha (the H and h). It *is* about teenagers, but it doesn’t have a “high school” feel to it. There are no jealousy issues and no conniving guys and girls trying to come between them. The H and h are mature but not overly so, more like they are just right maturity wise based on their family dynamics. I loved Jase’s big, loud, chaotic family and how they just sucked Samantha right in with them. It’s not really angsty (except for one part, and that’s more like emotional with just a tiny bit of angst thrown in). Seriously Cheryl…READ IT! π
Cheryl, all joking aside, the only one of those mentioned I haven’t read was Eleanor and Park and My Life Next Door. All of them are really good, and you should definitely read them, no matter which you choose.
Jean, Maryse will, one of these years, listen! Either that, or she’s purposely not reading them to get free food. Ironically, I never would have found Fallen Crest High or Up in the Air if she hadn’t mentioned it on her blog. *grins* She’s got the power to get us to read stuff she hasn’t even read, (or finished).
Just finished Sarah Brianne’s Nero. *sighs* I love these type of books. Not Mafia (though I like those too) but someone being bullied and dealing with it. Nero was just so scary and used that scariness to help Elle. My type all the way.
Anyone read Nature of Cruelty? I’m considering that one after one of the many I started on Good reads, but ended up not in the mood for. I’m curious how good or not it was.
Book nuts? What are you reading, Maryse. Wait, this is a romance blog, never mind…
*lifts head* Did someone say nuts? Book nuts? As in nuts in our books? As in book man nu… *slumps down* Oh, you’re talking about food nuts.
Although you could make the former kind chocolate covered too… π
Now see what you started!!
You’re so right, Fabi! I had been checking in on a few other book blogs (when I finally realized there WAS such a thing as book blogs!) but when I started coming here and seeing not only the content but the discussions – and especially how Maryse interacts with people who comment, which sadly I didn’t really see on the other book blogs – then I was hooked. You ladies are the bestest and you tolerate me and I love y’all! π
The discussion part is huge. The others are okay, don’t get me wrong, but I love hearing everyone’s thoughts about a book. Also, the lack of reveals is great. I’ve seen a few blogs do that.
Oh, the book that I went back to finish, I forgot it wasn’t a mood issue, it was an overly predictable issue. The Short Life of Sparrows is a DNF for me. Too predictable and not interesting enough for me. *shrugs*
Chocolate covered huh? But how about candy coated?
*snort* THERE IT IS!!
Candy coated!!! YUMMY.
Chocolate covered nuts? As in Goobers? Yum! π
Ladies? Question? Have any of you read Jewel E. Ann?
On Maryse’s new list she has a book by her, Only Trick, that sound different & interesting. But it just came out and is all 5/4 star reviews. May be unfair but this always makes me so suspicious. I think street team. *shrug*
Interested in book but new to me author.
Tessa, I really enjoyed Nature of Cruelty. π
*snort* Candy-covered nuts. Probably shouldn’t try to bite them though…ya know, like how you don’t bite jawbreakers. Why, what’d you think I meant? *snicker*
Bev, I don’t blame you for wondering about the street team angle. What I appreciate in Amazon reviews (even though I’m avoiding those now!) is when a person states they usually love the author’s books but are honest when one doesn’t work for them.
Cheryl – adult romance – Jacked by Tina Reber. LOVED IT. He’s a cop. She’s a doctor. Sounds so cliche, I know…. but it was awesome!!! No going back and forth. No kiddos. No teens. Just grown ups and their issues!!! π
Your comments are cracking me up! Chocolate covered nuts, candy-coated nuts!!!! Omg! Too funny! Love you guys! Make me laugh everyday!
Cheryl, I could use some “adult” romance too and I have Jacked….. Hmmmm. Just need to finish Forever Red first which is young adult and back and forth from past to present! But it’s a country star…..yummy!
Every time you mention Jacked my ears prick up. This weekend. There are a couple want to finish first.
Ok, just one clicked on the one I mentioned above. *shrug* just caught my attention. Give it a shot.
Pfft amy I think those kind of nuts only come in a salted flavour *dont say it I ewww’d as I typed it*
Laura, roflmao!!!!!
*spits hot tea on iPad*
π―
BLAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! OMG Laura!!!! Best comment of the day!!
*snort-choke*
LOL!!!!!!!!! That. THAT RIGHT THERE!!!! π
…
…
Laura won the internet today. *bows to her*
Oooh! I just pre-ordered Third Debt. *Squees*
Oh nuts! I missed all the nut talk. I like the salted ones best (HA!).
Life of Anna #5 – yay Jean thank you for telling me it’s tamer and has a happy ending for that poor wretched girl…
Amazon reviews – who said that? I don’t even read ’em anymore. I don’t believe that they are all 5 stars – I mean really!!! At least Maryse’s 5 star books I agree with.
Speaking of Maryse – I have a theory – I think she HAS read some (or part) of all our endless recommendations to her… and she didn’t like them… and is too nice to say so!
I know I throw the out there for you all and for Maryse because I have gotten so so many of my best reads from this very blog. I don’t know what I’d be reading if it weren’t for you all. Not Life of Anna, that’s for sure. Snort.
I am reading The Virgin (Original Sinners #7) by Tiffany Reisz. Man. This woman can write Taboo Erotica like no one else. She is one kinky girl. I am hooked on Kingsley and Soren and Nora.
Everything tastes better with chocolate on it and chocolate & salty= the Best!! π
Hmmm, quite a few rec’s from above. Thanks Tessa and MichelleS. *putting them on tbr list*
Okaay Amy I’ll read My Life Next Door!!
Jean I LOVED Forever Red!!!
Laura!!! I just busted out laughing in the middle of my class!
I can’t believe maryse started it this time and not amy lol
Sorry ladies I just couldn’t resist π
No, that was awesome Laura…and the fact that it made Fabi laugh in the middle of class just made it that much better! π
