<— BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!! DARK READ Just went live!! Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

OMG this sounds crazy, I can’t even choose a part of the blurb I wanna highlight, ’cause the 2nd part of the blurb is WAY different than the first part… so I say this blurb must be read for THAT jolt!!

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession. His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He’s handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him. I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away. Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika. My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college. In my city. Unprotected. The opportunity is too good to be true, as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.”

eek eek Eeeeeeeep!!!!!!!!!

Just a few great looking books that popped up on my radar this morning, and I thought I’d post ‘em in case any of these strike your fancy. Three super sales and two new book releases,. And the first (that one there to the left) one had me one-clicking within seconds of reading that blurb.

P.S. I’m reading one right now (Tangled <— from last year!) that I’m loving, and I’m feeling, and it’s right up our alley (story-wise, writing-wise, “new adult” character-wise). She’s in love with her best friend, but HIS best friend is a bully. He hates her. But us getting to know him? WOW. It’s intense. I haven’t skimmed a thing. Not even the “steamy scenes”. It’s gonna hurt, I just know it. It already hurts, and I’m halfway through. —->

Okay so… we’ve got teens raised in a cult, teens running away to Vegas to get married, new adults heading to L.A. to becomes stars, a love-at-first-sight married couple that sounds so tragic and heartbreaking, and a savage man that she’s been hired to “culture”.

  1. The Family by Marissa Kennerson <— SHE’S BEEN RAISED IN A CULT ALERT! And she’s seventeen now, and scheduled to marry the head of the cult, and thinks this is a good thing… until she meets a boy her own age. “Adam—their Father, prophet, and savior—announces that Twig will be his new bride, and she is overjoyed and honored. But when an injury forces her to leave the Family compound, Twig finds that the world outside is not as toxic as she was made to believe. And then she meets Leo, an American boy…” Plus! It’s on sale today. I one clicked this one. I just love stories that explore this kind of life…
  2. My Soul To Keep (Soul Series Book 1) by Kennedy Ryan <— JUST RELEASED! MUSICIANS IN L.A. ALERT! She’s trying to make her way… and meets him. Oh oh. “I’m finally making my way, making my mark. I can’t afford to fall for one of music’s brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I’m holding on tight with both hands. I won’t let go, not even for Rhyson Gray…”
  3. Me Without You by Kelly Rimmer <— TEARJERKER FOR THOSE THAT LOVED THE NOTEBOOK & ME BEFORE YOU ALERT (or so it says in the intro to the blurb…) and it’s on sale today! “My Lilah, who gave me so much, and yet kept from me a secret that she knew would break my heart.  My name is Callum Roberts, and this is our story.
  4. Fall Into Place (Taking the Fall) by Alexa Riley <— JUST RELEASED! Young love, Vegas weddings and Russian sniper “runaway” daughters. Sounds like sweet intensity!
  5. Uncivilized by Sawyer Bennett <— SAVAGE MAN WON’T BE TAMED ALERT! I read this one a year or so ago! He’s been raised in the wild and now a grown man, has just been discovered. “Dr. Moira Reed is an anthropologist who has been hired to help me transition back into modern society. It’s her job to smooth away my rough edges… to teach me how to navigate properly through this new life of mine. She wants to tame me. She’ll never win…

Wow, I should probably get them all ;)

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 10:58 AM

LOL!!! They do make my one-click finger twitchy. ;)

bev November 15, 2015 at 11:03 AM

Will finish Wither this morn and then this afternoon Tangled.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 11:22 AM

bev, should I do Wither next? I’m fluctuating between The Play, Wither, or that one up there (The Family).

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 11:27 AM

Gah!!! He’s SOOOOO broken… my heart hurts. I love him.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 11:31 AM

Really… Tangled is just pure old-school “new adult” awesomeness. The writing is great, the character development is great, the inner-dialogue, the actual dialogue, the reactions… how she feels, how he is…

the best friends… and then the reveal (or at least one of ‘em… so far anyway), and OMG my HEART. It’s like Z, and Travis and a true PAIN IN THE A$$ bully… all wrapped into one. I am SO INTO THIS.

I just wanna snuggle with our stuffed manatee right now.

Theresa November 15, 2015 at 11:48 AM

The Play was really good. What a tortured childhood.
For past paranormal readers- just found that Nancy Gideon finally release Unleashed last month. Remember Max and Cee Cee. Gah!
I am beyond excited to see Rogue by Callie Hart out Tuesday

Fabi November 15, 2015 at 12:08 PM

“pure old-school “new adult””
Magic words Maryse. Magic words.

I found one yesterday that made me think right away of MichelleS. Timeless Passion by Kayden Claremont.

bev November 15, 2015 at 12:11 PM

Maryse, you are making me so anxious to read it!!

Wither. I’m around 60%. I’m liking it and will probably read the next one. Not loving it like Jean and Amy. Yet, cause there are books that the ending makes, so could happen.
It is her POV only. She is a very strong heroine, but not all of a sudden superwoman. I like that, that her old life made her strong but has to learn to navigate this new world. And it feels like no one is safe.
But. I have not completely connected with the characters yet. And it feels slightly rushed, in that she has been involved in at least five different life and death situations, new places, new people.
But first book, you know. It really could turn into what Ive wanted with the next books.
Lol. Long ramble to say I don’t know. You, Jean & Amy are very similar in books So hopefully they’ll pop in with better answer. :-P

Theresa November 15, 2015 at 12:13 PM

Just found Katy Regnery The English Brothers boxed set 1-4 Blueberry Series for .99. Anybody read them?

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 12:15 PM

bev… this may be the first “book-guy” I’ve fallen for in a year or 2. I FEEL him. Like… I can actually feel my heart speed up when he’s in the scene.

I’m infatuated. And he’s such a jerk! LOL!

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 12:17 PM

I haven’t read anything by her yet, Theresa, but I know many in our crew LOVE this author!

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 12:18 PM

Theresa and fabi… now I’m going to look those up!! :D

bev November 15, 2015 at 12:29 PM

Happy claps. I remember when you were into Wild Reckless and I grabbed it. It turned into a great weekend (?) Read. Lol. One of those days had off and read in one setting.
Fabi?? Are you ready to read again? It will be a few more hours til can start. But will this afternoon. Rainy day read! C’Mon Fabi. Give up any tbr and join us.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 1:35 PM

Yes!! This one is great like Wild Reckless and not at all the same story. But I LOVE it!!! :D

Theresa November 15, 2015 at 2:49 PM

K C Lynn’s new book with Langston just went Live
Unlawful Justice sounds like a good one!

Kim Box Person November 15, 2015 at 3:09 PM

I just clicked & clicked while watching football with hubby! Starting Me Without You right now!!! The Family sounds like a book I could really get into and experience tons of feels!!!! YIPPPPEEE

Michelle November 15, 2015 at 4:19 PM

Maryse, I’m waiting for your review until I click on Tangled but you have me interested for sure! Wild Reckless I have and still haven’t read it but I moved it up a few weeks back because I saw another great review.

Linda November 15, 2015 at 5:01 PM

Why yes I one clicked The Family, and Tangled. Both sound like yummy reads. And since we are all “family” here I have a little confession… I looooved Uncivilized!!! When it first came out I just could not ignore that blurb!!! Between blurb and Sawyer Bennett… well I loved it and spent the majority of the book with a s**the eating grin. The Play was great too Maryse!! Oh my heart on that one for sure.

Tessa November 15, 2015 at 6:59 PM

I have been trying to be good all month. Ever since I saw Tangled as a bully book (which you know I adore above all other tropes) I’ve been wanting to read it. However, I thought, nope. Not this month. Gonna be good. Then, my monitor goes into monstrous dying mode. *sighs* Right now is a good hour. An hour from now… maybe not. Guess what I’m buying myself next? *grrr* Okay. Then, Tangled. Maryse reads Tangled and loves it enough for BBF feels! *pounds head* How am I supposed to resist?

*gets off soap box* Alright, that said, Maryse, next you should read Law of Moses. It’s so good, a little heart breaking, but also loves, angst, and twirly happies.

bev November 15, 2015 at 7:16 PM

Finished. Now onto Tangled. Cmon Michelle & Tessa. Just jump in.;-)

Grey November 15, 2015 at 7:24 PM

Screw it. I’m in.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 7:34 PM

Loved it!!! It wraps up in quite the bow, I will admit (and that’s not a spoiler ’cause you don’t know “which” bow)… but still SO worth the emotions and intensity and conflict.

bev November 15, 2015 at 7:35 PM

Maryse??? Her earlobes are stretched out??? Friend that is worse than the finger nails. What the what??

Whoot, Grey.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 7:38 PM

P.S. I’m writing the review right now… but the gist of my review? READ TANGLED!!!! LOL!!!

bev November 15, 2015 at 7:41 PM
Maryse November 15, 2015 at 7:55 PM

Well bev, I assumed she got those “fixed” to help her fit in. Her form of plastic surgery. LOL!

In my head, she’s pure “popular girl” once she’s in college with these guys…

Tessa November 15, 2015 at 8:04 PM

I just one clicked. *sighs* I had to! Though, I haven’t read a sentence, it does depend on the number type of the gage.

bev November 15, 2015 at 8:20 PM

Tessa, it just says.
“One smartass comment about her earlobes, stretched by years of wearing plugs, was all it’d taken for her temper to flare.”

bev November 15, 2015 at 8:40 PM

His name is Adonis. I hope he has a nickname.

Cheryl November 15, 2015 at 9:12 PM

Just finished Third Base. Good, quick read. Now I know what I’m reading next, Tangled!! Sounds great Maryse!! :)

Tessa November 15, 2015 at 9:16 PM

YEAHHHHHHHHHHH! Corrupt by Penelope Douglas is LIVE!

Tessa November 15, 2015 at 9:36 PM

For those who have been waiting, (like me :D ), it’s impossible to find since it just went live. Here it is.

Cheryl November 15, 2015 at 9:51 PM

Tessa, didn’t know about that one. Now I need to check that one out!

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 9:52 PM

Oh wow… Corrupt by Penelope Douglas just went live (I posted it as a breaking news update in this post) and that blurb made me eeeeeep. That last line…

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 9:53 PM

Oh Cheryl! Same one. LOL!!!! :P

Tessa November 15, 2015 at 10:11 PM

*nod nod nod nod* That blurb has had me on the edge of my seat for almost a year. I had to wait for her to write it, edit it, write Misconduct while writing it. :) Now, it is MINE!

Allison November 15, 2015 at 10:45 PM

Holy. CRAP.

I just read the blurb for Corrupt and then was going to come here to comment and basically say “WHAT THE CRAP WITH THIS BLURB?!” but you beat me to it.

You are on point, Maryse!

I. Am. Dying.

I hope this is as good as that blurb makes it seem. Off to download sample. STAT.

Maryse November 15, 2015 at 11:12 PM

I just none-clicked that sucker!!! I’m gonna start tonight but unless it is crazy form the star I may fall asleep ’cause I’m an earlybird now. LOL!

Jen C November 15, 2015 at 11:55 PM

Agreeing with many above – needing to get all of these books haha.

BUT AAAH SO EXCITED Corrupt is live! Just 1-clicking now and that’s me for the night. Been waiting a looong time for this one!

Rebecca November 16, 2015 at 1:43 AM

Corrupt looks scary crazy!! Eeeeep!

Rebecca November 16, 2015 at 1:44 AM

I one-clicked Soul To Keep, and it’s actually by Kennedy Ryan

Jenny November 16, 2015 at 2:41 AM

Loving these cult books! Mia Sheridan’s Finding Eden was another great “I was raised in a cult” book.

Jean November 16, 2015 at 9:11 AM

Corrupt is mine! Starting it today! Tangled next!

Bev, I really liked Wither and think it was the perfect setup for the next book! I get not connecting with the characters, but what about Cable? Sigh…… There are so many directions this story can go and it is totally unforgettable. I won’t need to refresh my memory when book 2 comes out and that’s a great thing!

MichelleS November 16, 2015 at 9:52 AM

You could have told me about Tangled a little sooner. I will be out of commission for at least a week reading this MONSTER of a book from your list earlier this week: the last Hour of Gann. OMG. How long is this book? I can’t find a page count, but I am guessing maybe 1200 pages? When my Kindle said 32 hours left in book I nearly fainted. The sample took me a couple of hours to read and by then I was hooked. Kind of like Radiance and Transcendence and a few others all mixed together. I’m hooked.

MichelleS November 16, 2015 at 9:54 AM

Fabi – I looked up Timeless Passion – is it a trilogy? What made you think of me? Trying to figure out if I am reading right book info.

Grey November 16, 2015 at 1:22 PM

Are you guys kidding?!? I cannot with you right now! I was supposed to be writing during my lunch break but instead here I am LOL! I downloaded Tangled already , didn’t get a chance to start it yet because I forgot I’d downloaded Nine and 212 the night before.

Now I just read the blurb for Corrupt and squeed…. So not professional for me to be squeeing at work right now! Must. Try. To. Resist. Gah, this isn’t going to end well. Thank God Friday is payday.

Amy November 16, 2015 at 1:56 PM

Dangit Maryse…I started Rush last night after wavering between that and Wild Reckless, told Jean I’m invested in it so I can’t start Corrupt (plus there is the whole dual-POV issue with me), and now I’m being tempted with Tangled! And I haven’t even read your review yet… *sigh*

Stretched out earlobes, eh? Better than a stretched out something else…at least earlobes can be repaired. :P

Amy November 16, 2015 at 2:05 PM

As for Wither, I really liked it! The caliber of the writing was okay, nothing spectacular but the story itself was enough to overcome that, at least for me. It had a slightly different take on the whole zombie/post-apocalyptic story in terms of what or who was to be feared the most. Gah, that girl just couldn’t catch a break! It was one thing after another after another for most of the book.

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 2:20 PM

The tummy twists part I’m at in Corrupt is killing me. Yep, death by book nerves is now a thing.

Jean November 16, 2015 at 2:50 PM

I’m excited Tessa! Starting it right now!

Theresa November 16, 2015 at 2:52 PM

Whoa! Got email they cancelled the Evan Arden box set!
Anybody know anything?

Allison November 16, 2015 at 2:53 PM

Gah Tessa how far along are you? I’m at 35% and feel like I’m more and more nauseous as I go along. What in the actual frik is going on?! These Horsemen are creeping me out. I want to shake Rika and take her home with me and hide her in my closet!

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 2:59 PM

At that point i was just about 50%. It’s got my interest if nothing else.

bev November 16, 2015 at 8:17 PM

Amy, just heads up. Tangled has multiple POVs.

bev November 16, 2015 at 8:45 PM

Tessa, is it super dark?

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 9:04 PM

It’s dark and super tummy twist and anxiety, but I wouldn’t put it as far as some others. I’m loving it. What’s dark for you? I can gauge from there,

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 9:46 PM

*big grin* OMG, finished and WOW. *squees* I seriously fell in love with so many of the characters, words defy. Too many emotions right now. Just, *squees again*

Allison November 16, 2015 at 9:53 PM

Wow. Tessa I’m dying. I’m halfway through and want to cut a b*$ch. Not Rika. All the men. It’s super good though. Dying to see where this heading.

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 10:10 PM

See! Half way and suddenly just so many emotions and tummy twists. And then that thing and the sad thing and I wanted to hurt people…!

Allison November 16, 2015 at 10:19 PM

Omg I haven’t hit a sad thing yet. I mean, semi sad. Not totally sad. Ugh. I’m feeling all the feels. I feel panicky. And I’m cursing a lot. The more passionate about a book I am, the more I curse. And right now I’m like a drunk dock worker.

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 10:46 PM

I think that was the semi-sad part. But ugh, that post was right before the semi-sad, and the semi-sad made me want to punch people.

Amy November 16, 2015 at 10:52 PM

Aaaaaaaand now it’s time for me to be a crow eater…Rush is dual POV and it’s working for me, so I guess dual POV *does* work for me. Well, sometimes. Just not with super angsty reads.

Now watch…I’m going to come across a dual-POV book that has crazy angst. ;)

Thanks for the heads up, Bev! It just might work for me because Maryse gave it 4.5 stars, and dual (or more) POV’s sometimes take the edge off for her. What would I do without all of you here? :D

Allison November 16, 2015 at 11:02 PM

Semi sad, for me, was the matches. I found it sad, and I wanted to punch people, but I didn’t cry. So there’s another sad part coming?

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 11:15 PM

*thinks* I think, for me, though probably not everyone, that was more sad than average. However, I call it semi-sad because I can see for most it would be semi only and later parts might be more sad. Does that make sense?

Loving the talk without actual spoilers. :D

Tessa November 16, 2015 at 11:16 PM

Amy, Tangled is next for me! I’m kind of in a book fog, though, so I don’t know what time I’ll start.

Cheryl November 16, 2015 at 11:22 PM

I’m reading Corrupt and can’t wait to see where this goes. The plan is to read Tangled next, but we know how tbr next plans go around here. :)

Niki November 17, 2015 at 2:03 AM

Great news for all of us who went crazy over The diary of Bink Cummings!!!

New book series out right now called Beyond her Words!! I’m either reading that or Tangled!!! And so many more good ones coming out tomorrow! Yay!! :)

Jean November 17, 2015 at 11:34 AM

Tessa and Allison…..Corrupt……holy crap! This is why I read! Not quite done yet, but seeing Tessa’s reaction has me wanting to leave work right now and finish it!

Allison November 17, 2015 at 2:32 PM

I’m at 86% and have to keep putting it down to breathe. I don’t want it to end. Ever.

Jean November 17, 2015 at 2:51 PM

Yep Allison, I’m right there with ya!
