<— I KNOW SO MANY have been anxiously awaiting this one (big love for Kresley Cole’s latest contemporary romance Russian mafia series), and I’m hearing the bossy alpha-males are swoon-worthy. Tee hee! I have NO doubt, considering I’ve fallen head-over-heels over this author’s other series alpha-males. 😉 And the plus? Book #1 & #2 are on super-sale today, so if you haven’t read ’em yet, you can indulge yourself in a non-stop series reading marathon. 😉
Kathy: I rarely preorder but Presley Cole’s Gamemaker Series is one of the few I do!! Have been waiting for the 3rd book forever. Dominants and Russian Mob is a perfect combination!
And while I *thought* I’d start the latest book (Stuck-Up Suit) by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, I actually jumped into their FIRST one instead (Cocky Bastard), and I can’t. Stop. Laughing. OMG this is one of the funniest, wittiest, most endearing books I have ever read, and now I just hit some big-time romance angst. Which only makes this book that much better! YAY ME!!!
Maryse: Okay this is ridiculous… i’m at 4% and I can’t stop cackling!!!! Since the very start… my mom (we FaceTime) finally just said “WHAT?!!! WHAT IS SO FUNNY?!!” And I’m all… “you just have to read it. It’s just funny” So all that to say… the start? Priceless interactions. I AM SO IN!!!!!!!!!
bev: Maryse after my current read I was thinking of starting Cocky Bastard too. I didn’t realize until yesterday it was a road trip book. Love those.
Jean: Maryse! I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE COCKY BASTARD!
Celeste: I started Stuck-Up Suit today, and I’m loving it so far (at 45%), because as stuck up and pervy this guy is, these same traits are actually endearing on him.
Anne: I am 20% into Stuck Up Suit and really liking it! Love the banter between Soraya and Graham.
But, of course there are some goodies on here that definitely have my attention, too. Like: The Player (’cause I love an alpha-male bad-guy/mafia guy!! In books!! Always and only in books. 😉 And Kresley Cole is one of my favorites), The Player and the Pixie (two AWESOME authors wrote this one, and it sounds hilarious… plus, he’s a Rugby star!!), Listen To Me (she needs a live band for her popular restaurant, and her teenage crush of an ex-rockstar saunters in!!), Forever Rockers (I know this series is MUCH-LOVED by many here), The Randy Romance Novelist (I laughed hard over book #1, and this is the sequel!), HUSH (Black Lotus #3) (book #1 thrilled me and kind of scared me, and now, here’s the finale!), Slow & Steady (an alpha-male SEAL and a single mom stripper that is actually his dead friend’s widow – oh YES! That sounds right up my romance-angst alley!) and Jagger (He’s an MMA fighter that barges in – does he overhear it?? – and stops a teen from being abused by her father…) and Beautiful Distraction (they don’t like each other, but she’s stuck at his house during a bad storm)…
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything!)

24% into Bad Ones and Holy ****! Seriously, etc is going on. This took a major dark turn. Crap! And yes, I’m typing to avoid because I’m freaking out big time.
LOL! I love the sound of that, Tessa!!!!
OH NO! Tessa! But are you loving it??? Is it Horror Dark???? I’m taking a break between books with some mindless smut. I plan on reading This is War Baby and its sequel.
I’m ready Cocky Bastard right now and yes Maryse it’s HILARIOUS!! Definitely lots of laugh out loud moments! I’m crushing on Chance BIG TIME! I’m taking a break right now to get some actual work done (BOO!), but I’ll be starting part two tonight! I already read the first page and I’m like, “Say what?!”
Tessa, I one-clicked Bad Ones and I’ll be jumping on that one next! You had me at “dark turn” and “freaking out.” I’m anxious for a good mind f%&k! 😉
Okay Nancy had me with the magic words “broken tortured soul”….Royal Savage….1-click! And Black Widow, Bad Ones, etc., etc.
Was thrilled to see Forever Rockers in my Kindle today! Love that series so much!
My 1-clicker finger seriously has a mind of its own today! I can’t control it! Lol!
Bad Ones landed on my kindle this morning but I am knee deep *errr whatever* in writing smut, so as soon as I finish that and the last ten percent of The Beast which I have been savoring because I just… I don’t want to finish …. That one gets my vote!
Yeah, uh, not sure horror or m*** f*** or more just, dude! No way followed by wait, huh? woah is it going there? And yeah,m I started to read more and then woah. That went there and yeah. It’s good, but now I need to breathe. lol
I may have just changed my mind….The Bad Ones it is then…
I highly recommend Too Late by Colleen Hoover as well. So good and so much angst like really nail biting angst. Nothing like her other books.
But I really need an epilogue so fingers cross for a million likes.
Jumping on the band wagon….between the blurb, Tessa freaking out and free on KU…Bad Ones is next on my list!
I read Too Late by Colleen Hoover also and Loved it! It’s much more “mature” than anything she’s done before and she does it so well.
And Grey… you are writing what exactly?!?
I’m currently on a bit of a paranormal/fantasy kick. I stopped at about 20% to the end of Queen of Shadows a couple days ago bc I was freaking out, and I’m not ready for it to end yet, lol but the anticipation is driving me crazy. I can’t wait until A Court of Mist and Fury comes out in a few weeks! I started Hereafter by Tara Hudson today, so far so good though I’m not very far (it’s a ghostly romance ;)). And I also have my eye on From the Ashes by Amber Lynn Natusch and Fabi’s rec, Magic Born, looks really good too! And read Paper Princess and Cocky Bastard recently and loved em both. Paper Princess for me was like a mix between Tijan’s Fallen series and that book by Jamie McGuire we all know and love 😉 Too many books, too little time 😛
Um Tessa?????????? WTF AM I READING????? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE “KIDS”?????????
😮
😮
😮
Ela? Tessa??? What in the world is that book about?
UM UM? NOT SURE? LET ME GET BACK TO YOU…IT REMINDS ME OF THAT BOOK I READ CALLED EMPATHY BY KER DUKEY OR WELL THESE CHARACTERS IN BAD ONES ARE TOTALLY LACKING EMPATHY!
See! See! The freakout is totally justified. You at 24%? I set everything down and went to the library to get a super happy historical. I will need it.
I’m a tad further and thinking well sh&t and WTF a lot!
Umm, dang… As soon as I get home I am cracking the cover open…Tessa AND Ela…*shaking head*
Tessa and Ela—> “WTF, need to breathe, lacking empathy” The kind of book we like around here. Damn!!
I feel like I’ve just been running by and waving lately. RL getting in way of reading and commenting.
Reading Stuck Up Suit. Not enjoying it as much as Cocky Bastard so far. Not much substance, just wishy-washy.
Think you should check out sable hunter. Great cowboy romances. Her hell yeah series is awesome
Finished The Beast. Starting Bad Ones… wine bottle in hand…
Ummmm….this is one of the ….weird, um yeah I am going with that …..books I have ever read…..
Some times I read the blurbs and they Crack me up. Like the heroine who is a widow of best friend/single mom/stripper with a Navy seal hero.
Or like a hero who is a billionaire /mma fighter/shifter
bev… LOL I noticed that too. Actually it was my pet peeve for a recent book I read (can’t remember the title just yet) but basically… the heroes are pretty much everything, and DO everything, that we’ve loved in our bad-boy heroes. But at a certain point, it’s a little overkill.
Tee hee. Right there with you. Its like… how hot should I make him? What’s the hottest kind of bad-boy, right now? Hmm… I can’t decide, so he’ll be ALL of it. *snort* 😛
At this point, I’m liking the blue-collar, just regular hot guys, that prove their hotness slowly but surely… mistakes and all.
ESPECIALLY if there are true, honest, kind of really bad… mistakes. Something that requires effort, and work, and growth, and develops via a true character connection. THAT is good angst.
Well,The Kane Trilogy by the same author was all kinds of f*cked up too. And what the hell is up with the male models throat on that cover?? I think he needs that checked out.
I got a couple of samples because I have so much lined up to read right now. But I had to one-clic Fearless because it’s #2 in the series I just finished reading #1 in.
I had no idea Fearless was coming out today. Thank you Maryse!
Ok, you guys all have me intrigued….. getting ready to start The Bad Ones.
Just finished Stuck Up Suit and I liked it!
Is Ladies Man by Katy Evan going to be on kindle also? Went to pre order and kindle wasn’t an option. Hope so. Absolutely loved the Manwhore series.
I bloody hope so Julie o. Im dying to read it. Sometimes the kindle option doesn’t come up until closer to the release.
Having said that Im still waiting for Tryst to be available on kindle in Australia…so it depends on licensing I guess.
Have you read Forbidden by CD Reiss? It’s super dark and angst… I read it as an ARC couple months back… It left me boneless and soppy by the end, it was that good. Anyway, Forbidden was released as a three parts novella (Songs of Perdition #1-3) Kick, Use, and Break put into full length. Jonathan’s and Theresa’s stories came first but you don’t have to read it for this one although I do recommend it to those who haven’t.
This has become my favorite by CD Reiss. It was an absolute pleasure to watch Fiona Drazen grow. Anyone who can walk away from this without feeling spent and drained is stronger than I am. Well, the point of this post is, it’s coming to audible in 6 DAYS…April 19!!!! I hope everyone checks it out because I sure can’t wait for it… Especially since my fave book boyfriend narrator Sebastian York is part of this beautiful project. 😉
The Bad Ones…done. Is there such a thing as book shock? Kinda like when you ‘go into shock’ over a traumatic accident????? Yeah…I think that’s where I am…
Like Tessa, I need my own pretty happy feel good CR maybe with a hot alpha on the side….
I finished Cocky Bastard last night and all I can say is, THAT my reading friends is how you fight for your girl!!!!! Chance had me *sighing and swooning* loudly during the last half of the book. His fighting spirit had me crushing on him so hard!!
I started the Bad Ones late last night. Tessa, I’m almost at the 24% mark now. At first, the story was kinda choppy and a little hard for me to connect to because I’m trying to figure out what the hell is going on, BUT I know something is coming around the bend. I got that feeling so I’m sticking with it!! Some of the best books I’ve ever read have started slow, but once you crest that hill, be prepared for the crazy ride down! 🙂
I’m getting the warm and fuzzies all over again watching so many of you read Cocky Bastard. It is so good!
Hi ladies I’m back! I was mia but was on my holidays in lanzarote! Read loads tho!!!
Read paper princess last night and I lovvvved it!! Cannot wait until broken prince but I do hate cliff hangers!
Gonna do about 20 loads of washing and then I’m starting this is war baby……
Yup! The Bad Ones…@ 54% and still WTF???
Loved Cocky Bastard!
Seeing everyone’s comments on Cocky Bastard makes me want to re-read it.
Stephanie, I was thinking the same thing….definitely worth a re-read!
Not far into The Bad Ones, but this book has Tessa’s name all over it!!!
THIS BOOK IS HORRIBLY DISTURBING!
Yes. Yes it is. I’m almost done. Definitely.
Finished Marked in Flesh. So so good!! As Tessa said, yes, ooohh..skinny dipping scene I can’t wait for the next book to see how the relationship between Meg and Simon will progress…
Loved MIF! Tessa, I just finished and I feel shivers all over my body…that was not a dark book I had in mind. I’m moving onto This is War Baby.
WTF did I just read. Seriously, what did I read? Jean, this book is so much not me. Lol. At 24% that will be obvious. Before then, definitely. After. Woah.
Guys, I can’t rate this yet. This is me hoping into shock and just hugging my library happy book.
YUP Tessa!!!!!!!! WTF was that??????????????????
I don’t know. I know people who would have loved it. I am just someone who doesn’t like that type of story. However, she’s still a one click author for me. I have to say, even if this wasn’t my type, it was interesting in that train wreck kind of way.
Oh no Tessa! I’m only at 20% so……
Oooh, Virgin Romance Novelist is $1.99. It sounds perfect for right now. *one click*
You might like it. It’s just not my thing. I didn’t ever watch Natural Born Killers for a reason. I didn’t realize it’d go where it did.
Same here Tessa….everything you just wrote!
Like I said I was in book shock over the Bad Ones… Tessa and Ela – glad it wasn’t just me. Not sure what category to list it in….
Just started Right this morning by Jana Aston….love, LOVE, loved her other book Wrong. So far I am all in and loving the happy feel goods of Sawyer….
Psych-horror. 🙂 I think I’ll recommend it to my niece. She loves that stuff.
Hey Maryse & Amy what was that face foundation primer you were raving about before. Think you got in on IPSY bag. At Sephora now & blanking on name.
Cheryl, it will be Amy that knows the face foundation primer. I’ll do a search of her old comments and see if I can find it. I don’t use foundation, but for a slight brushing of Bare Minerals powder on my face.
DG, Ela, and Tessa – I’m not sure either what category to put Bad Ones in either. I’m half-way through and it reminds me of Bonnie and Clyde. I can see the Natural Born Killers similarity too. I’m all for dark reads, but I like a balance of good/evil. If one is bad, I like the other to be good. If I get to much of the evil it gives me to many negative feelings. If you’re going to bring me down, bring me back up too. So far, these two are just… WOW. I’m going to finish it because I’m curious as to where the author is going to take me and how it will end.
Was it Smashbox??
Psych-Horror sounds about right, with very odd and disturbing sex scenes???
Ugh, I didn’t know what I was getting into with this book and your comparisons are not making me feel better…..now should I finish it? Or go back to Sinners….Eric is up next!
You are on one of my favorites? Eeic? His story is so super sweet. It has angst, yes, and sadness, but that just makes it so much sweeter. *smiles*
I know. I really want to get back to the Sinners, but guess I need to finish Bad Ones to see what all the hype is about (even though it’s not my normal genre). And so many other books are calling my name!
FYI guys, Beauty and the Beast boxed set series by Skye Warren is free today!
I would just finish it Jean so you can be shell shocked with us 🙂
Thanks for the Freebie!
Truth is at about 28% you are too wtf, then yes. If not, um… good luck?
Just got my first ipsy glam bag! The bag alone was worth it!
I’m going to continue with it Tessa! I don’t want you all to be shell shocked without me!
Those of you reading Bad Ones can borrow my avatar. 😉
LOL Fabi. It keeps moving up my list. Damn my curiosity. I wonder if I can just read the last page? LOL
Heck, I only finished because by 25% in I was in some sort of numb shock…
But I am sooo loving Right. Sawyer is definitely a hottie alpha…*fanning face*
Whoa. You ladies are brave. I can’t take stuff like the bad ones. Or natural born killers. Or similar. This is War Baby was waaaay too dark for me. Yeh, weak, I know. Sigh. Cora Reilly’s mafia books are about as evil as i get. Zombies creep me out, too. I can’t watch walking dead, or read zombies stories, not even zombie *romances* lol. Let me just turn back to my Kindle. Dannika Dark’s One Second is at 40%. Ah, give me some hot shifters. Niiiiice.
I’m with Tasha – on a PNR & fantasy kick right now. I’m dying for the next installment in Tbrone of Glass series too!!! Love these characters & this world so much!!!
I finished The Beast.. I’m giving it 3.75 stars. Story a 3 at best. Just not even close to the original books. More new characters? Ugh. It’s a giant soap opera now. Everybody gets a scene, but nothing major happens or gets resolved. A few totally predictable big things. It’s a good thing I love Rhage so much or it would have been a DNF. From now on, BDB will be a library loan for me. Kills me to say that!
Dark ones / psych horror – ack! Scares me… Not even going to read the sample…
Too many on my TBR list anyway. Virgins novella. Soren’s novella. Hmmm… Still need to finish Stanton series and Knights of Black Swan book 9. GASP! No time for messing with new material… Diving into one of these..
Hmmm. Interesting comments on The Beast, Michelle. I haven’t tackled it yet. Haven’t yet read all of the other Black Daggers, even. (Sacrilege, I know!) Sadly, it’s not the first time a formerly great series loses its punch as more books come out. Mercy Thompson, anyone? Fever series? Pay-Changeling series? I’m sure we can all name others that are kind of dwindling away in later books. Sometimes less is more, maybe, and a great series should just end while the going is good. Or else we should just be prepared to wait, to allow the author to do an awesome job of new books rather then being forced to rush them out to meet demand.
Another case in point: The Passage (Justin Cronin). Book 2 The Twelve came out pretty quickly but just didn’t have the same magic as The Passage. Disappointing. It’s been a lot longer wait for book 3, The City of Mirrors (out May 25, Yaay!). Let’s hope it’s worth the wait. BTW if you haven’t read The Passage, it’s fabulous. A bit sci-fi, a bit vampirey, a bit dystopia end-of-the-world Stephen King’s The Stand style. Fantastic book.
Jan, The Passage sounds good. I’m going to go look it up.
Yeh, The Passage is epic. It’s a huge read, so be warned!. Starts off pretty conventional sci-fi thriller but you’ve gotta stick with it. It just takes off and carries you along with it. Loved this book. *Something is coming* (said in a whisper….. Oh yeh! Maybe I’d better dust off my copy and do a reread before City of Mirrors is out. OMG now I’m getting all excited (in a booky way) lol.
Jana Aston is batting a 2-0 in my book! A hot alpha *sighs deeply*, a goofy h, a little love, a little drama, a little stubbornness and a whole lot of lovin. A great and easy feel good read!
DG I’m with you. I loved Right….and Wrong. Great unputdownable perfect fluff for me.
Jan130 and Fabi….The Passage is the most amazing book. It will be made into a movie (Im pretty sure I read that movie rights had been purchased). Fabi you must read it….you wont forget it. Its like the vampy version of The Walking Dead. Huge and awesome!!
Well, hopefully it’s not too far off-topic for all you romance and PNR lovers out there, but here are a couple of other books some of you might be interested in reading if you haven’t already discovered them:
‘Wool’ by Hugh Howey. A really great read. Strictly speaking it’s sci-fi. Another post-apocalyptic. People living in isolated groups in underground silos. But very well written and involving. There are also several sequels, but sadly they were not as well done and were DNFs for me. But the first book is terrific.
Also, what about Lev Grossman’s fantasy trilogy, The Magicians? The start of the first book is SO PROMISING!! Imagine instead of your interview for Princeton you somehow end up doing an entrance exam for a secret uni for magicians, called Brakebills. And you get accepted!!! And Narnia is real!!! (although in these books it’s called ‘Fillory’ and it’s a bit different from Narnia.) The concept for these books is terrific, kind of like Harry Potter for adults. IMO the execution of the books doesn’t quite match up to the fabulous concept, but they’re still a great read. I think the first book is the best, and probably the first half of the first book is the best of all. Apparently it has been made into a SyFy channel TV series aired earlier this year – anyone seen it? I haven’t yet.
Well, ’nuff said. Back to romance and PNR. 😉
Jan, I’ll back you up on the Wool Omnibus. It is beyond good and into greatness. I read it years ago and still remember it like it was yesterday.
I finished the Bad Ones Last night. I can see this categorized as a psych/horror book. Definitely dark… like abyss dark. If you want to know what happens when two sociopaths find one another, this is your story. Definitely not my cup of tea, but still a well written story. I like a balance of good/evil in my dark reads. I don’t mind if a book chews me up and spits me out, but at least put me back together! Time to go back to my regularly scheduled contemporary romance programming. After that book, I need some good old fashioned smut. 😉
The Passage sounds awesome but one of the categories is “Horror”, is that correct????? Jan130, please advise especially since This is War Baby is too dark for you (which I’m reading right now and I’ve read much darker *shivers* and loving) so I just need confirmation it’s not “horror” and won’t remind me of The Bad Ones *full body shiver*….eeeep I still can’t get some of those images out of my mind!!!!!
I can’t believe it’s Thursday already. Where has my time gone this week?
FLT
“Don’t move. Stay right where you are.” Fearless by Nicole Edwards
No, it’s not a hold up in that first scene. Just let your dirty little minds go ahead and wander.
This book has me laughing out loud on every page. The banter is outrageous.
The Passage does look great!
And I’m still reading Bad Ones. It seriously is like a train wreck that you can’t look away from and I need to get to the end for that shell shocker! So, FLT:
“Ms. Travers, I know we’re not even half done with this year, but I think it’s crucial we develop a plan for next year. You’ll be a senior, and frankly, I’m worried.”
FLT
“Lower.” His slurp echoes in my bedroom and I tense up.
This is War, Baby by K. Webster
OMG Ela!
FLT has officially served to tell me I don’t read fast enough…I’m still on last week’s book!
This book is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooood but YES it is pretty dark especially at the beginning! NO IT IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO PSYCHOS FROM BAD ONES….just you know the typical rape, kidnapping, slavery sales. 🙂 ALL THE GOOD STUFF 😉
Ugh it’s FLT and I’m in between books?! How does that happen?! I need to get down to business!!!
Ela, I started This is War Baby and stopped to read Logan Kade. I might have to go back one and finish that now. 😉
Reading the first draft of HOLDING OUT, a new Brightside novel written from Berkeley’s point of view by Katie Delahanty. First time I have read/edited/offered opinion on a wip. Taking extra time. 😉
Got my first IPSY glam bag today! Yeh!!!!
Ohhh mine might already be here too. Yay IPSY!!! I forgot all about that… *I love Ipsy*
Okay Cheryl, tell me whatcha got. I will confide that MY earlier (newbie) bags weren’t as amazing as they are now. I think, by my reviews, they are choosing extra-good for me now. LOL!
Cheryl, what’s a “wip”?
Is Maryse at RT?
Fabi, work in progress – like doing a beta read
Thanks R. *smacks dummy self upside the head*
No prob. Having one of those days myself. Literally just sent an email “about” a person TO that person. *bangs head on desk* It wasn’t anything bad, but…awkward!
Hi friends!!!! *waves at everyone*
I miss you guys! I’ll catch up on all the comments and the books up there at lunch, but I wanted to pop in for first line Thursday. As if I have any reading time right now. *snort*
“I wondered if the vibration would feel good between my legs.” ~ Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland
I’m serious…I REALLY miss you guys. 🙁
Amy!!!! Miss you too! I can’t believe you are just now reading Cocky Bastard!! Great, isn’t it? And that first line is just so fitting for you! Lol!
Hope your move went as smoothly as possible!
Omg R.! I hate it when I make email mistakes.
Amy!!! Been missing you girl. And with Maryse gone to RT (I think), it feels like family is gone on vacation.
I hope you love Cocky Bastard. <—notice the lack of "the" before "Cocky Bastard" haaaa
I’m here guys!!!! 😀 Here I be!!! LOL!
I’m between books too. Read The Bad ones. Read The Beast… Now I’m cruising… Hmmm…hit with a number maybe?
*hugs Amy* Miss you too. You missed the interestingness of Bad Ones!

‘Her bosoms heaved at an alarming rate as his rough hand found its way down her soft, yet wiry briar patch.’
The Virgin Romance Novelist.by Meghan Quinn
This book was exactly what I needed. Utterly hilarious.
Ela, “just you know the typical rape, kidnapping, slavery sales. 🙂 ALL THE GOOD STUFF 😉 ROFL What does that say about us?
What does that say about us?
I’m pleading the fifth!
Hmmmm??? I’m with Fabi on that one and my hands made that comment all on their own while my brain caught up to said message it was too late…
Oh my gosh Tessa, that first line!! Priceless! I will probably need something just like this after Bad Ones, and thankfully I bought it a while ago!
….also pleading the Fifth…..
FLT
‘Flesh was a strange color for nail polish.’
The Player and the Pixie
‘I scoffed. “God you are completely out of touch.”
“I agree. It’s a terrible problem. I should touch you.” He answered low…..”‘

*shaking head giggling at this bad…bad boy alpha*
Just needed to share!
Sorry Fabi- yep work in progress- a first draft. First time I have done this. Kinda time-consuming.
So now first line thursday for me…yet.
Amy, *big hugs* Missed you girl! Hope school is going well. Cocky Bastard is great; enjoyed it way more than Stuck Up Suit. Also, a no-brainer read which is good since you are taking classes.
Ewww, forgot about The Player and the Pixie- maybe that’s next.
Darynda Jones posted a pic of her with Nalini Singh and Kresley Cole. *facepalms* Why am I not in Vegas right now? lol
I don’t have a FLT!!! I am having to do this “thing” with my family! UGH. Don’t they know it’s Thursday?
I now have to re-read the Cocky Bastard sample. I downloaded it Aug 2015, according to my Kindle. And read the sample. But it didn’t catch me enough to buy it at that time. Must have been a different mood.
Still debating what my next read will be. I might have to hold off on Knights of Black Swan, since I am on fantasy and PNR overload. Maybe Jamie and Roger in Virgins? Love me some Jamie and Roger! And it’s a quick novella, so maybe I can read it when family isn’t looking? LOL
Hey Ela. Yeah, some might categorise some aspects of The Passage as horror, but to to me it’s not really horror as in Pet Sematary or The Shining type of thang. Being as *weak* as I am about scary books/films I wouldn’t have been able to read it otherwise. (I was silly enough to read Stephen King’s Pet Sematary as an impressionable teen and it literally gave me nightmares.) I haven’t read The Passage in a while, but my overriding memories of it are as a wonderful, mysterious, epic, eventful, adventure read, not as horror. I absolutely loved it. I say go for it.
Ela…The Passage might fall into a horror category in some respects (as Jan130 mentioned its not Stephen King style horror at all) but I would describe as an apocalyptic world building epic. The vampires are NOT Twilight or BDB hotties but a new species of predator. But it has elements we love….like an awesome kicking asses and taking no prisoners heroine in Alicia. And characters so well developed you’ll miss them. Its a tale of survival. I loved it.
Lisa that sounds awesome. I’m adding it to today’s list!
Omigod I’m laughing so hard that I’m crying! Laura recommended My Commander by Alanea Alder and it’s freakin hilarious! I wish it had audio so I could listen on my drive. On the tampon scene…five paranormal alpha males trying to figure out what a period is and what tampons to get *giggling*
Michelle that just sounds awesome. *snort* 😛
I saw that pic Tessa! *sigh*
Thanks Jan130 and Lisa! I needed those explanations after getting side tracked by The Bad Ones…
For those of us who love Jamie Fraser. New novel inspired by Outlander. You can order book signed by author and Diana Gabaldon. 🙂

Hey, here’s what I got in my first ipsy glam bag:
.em michelle phan cover up (LOVE IT)
Skin & Co Roma – Boosting Anti-Aging Serum
Elizabeth Mott – Show Me Your Cheeks Blush
L.A.B.2 – Just Blending In Brush
tarte – Lip Surgence lip crème (Wonder)
Just curious as to what others here have received!
Welcome home Maryse, we missed you, and I was starting to have palpitations that there would be no Friday list today!! You are the best!
And here’s what I got in my IPSY bag:
Tarte lip surgence creme in Wonder (same as Jean; a little brighter than I usually use, but used a Laura Mercier gloss over it and like it)
pur-lisse Prevent Blue Lotus + white tea treatment sheet mask
pur-lisse Prevent Blue Lotus + seaweed treatment sheet mask
Show me your cheeks blush by Elizabeth Mott in peach pink( same as Jean; has a pretty shimmer)
C427 tapered brush by Crown
Nomad eyeshadow in Marrakesh-Desert sands (really like)
and of course a cool tie-dye cosmetic bag
I’m getting the Tarte lippy too Cheryl! I can’t wait to see it in person, but I also would have shied away from that color…
I’m getting a blending brush, and I desperately needed another one!!!
Welcome back Maryse!! I thought you and Amy commented about some primer that you got from IPSY that gave a glow; that had to be careful because it could be too much if oily skin or something like that. Thought it was smashbox.
Oh yes it is!!! Smash box Photo Finish Primer Oil.
So far, my skin responds perfectly to it, and I like it. I’m a bit *squicked-out* by oils, but with a light hand, this absorbs well. 🙂
I’m curious about sheet masks. They seem to be the big thing right now.
bev… I received two in my last Ipsy package and I liked it! Very cooling, but the mask is pretty big for my face, so it took some maneuvering to get the holes matched up with my eyes and mouth. LOL!
I’ve only used one so far, and didn’t see any miracles, BUT!! It felt nice. It did have way too much “lotion” or whatever it is on there, left over on my face at the end. They say to just rub in the remainder into your skin (but it was SO much, no amount of rubbing it in would make it absorb) so I just rubbed it into the top of my hands, and my neck and chest area.
So no miracles, but no breakouts, or irritation with this one, and I’ll try it again for sure.
Bev, I was skeptical at first using a sheet mask. But I found they are user friendly, just apply to face and it covers evenly. I also have been able to re-use my SK-III masks because they are stupid expensive, and because there is enough product loose in the package to keep them hydrated for another time. We’ll see with the one’s I just got from IPSY. One side effect- your family may laugh at you with the mask on- does look somewhat “Friday the 13th Jason mask looking.” *tee-heh
Maryse I found the comment regarding the Smashbox primer.
From the St. Patrick’s day post:
Maryse:——–> “I used just a touch of the smash box primer (which is all sorts of oils and supposedly really good for your skin – helps prep it). Probably party of the dewy look.” 😉
Going to compare this one with a Dior primer I got a sample of the other day at Sephora.
Whew!! Okay, grabbing a few minutes to chat before we take off for the weekend.
Cheryl, the primer I use is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. I received a sample of the Photo Finish primer oil, but my skin tends to get oily so oil just makes it look greasy, not dewy. Yes, there is a difference. And yes, greasy is gross. Dewy is pretty.
I’m so jealous y’all have your Ipsy bags! I forgot to change my address with them so I have to wait for mine to be forwarded to me in the mail. *sigh*
Gah! I haven’t even checked out yesterday’s post. I seriously feel like throwing a tantrum…I am NOT adjusting to all these changes well! For the first time, I need Manny for life comfort and not book comfort! 😉
Amy I don’t have my Ipsy bag yet… next week.
Maybe we should do a monthly… “what’d you get in your Ipsy bag” comment section. I’m always dying to know what others got and how they liked it.
By the way, I’m still working on Cocky Bastard and LOVING IT!!!! Holy moly, that unexpected twist after Vegas and the *why* of it…wasn’t expecting that! Chance…oh my, I’m in love with that guy right now.
And that goat. How. Freaking. Cute.
Awww Amy. You DO have a lot of major changes all at once. Enjoy your weekend. Maybe some downtime away from everything is exactly what you need.
Cocky Bastard is such a girly book. Pink and glittery and soft and sweet. I loved it.
Then I think Cocky Bastard is my next read. I need that kind of book.
I’d be a horrible beta as my grammar is really bad. Lol. And I’d squirrel. But I do wonder at the story choices that authors make occasionally. Why do they decide to negate all the tension they just built up? Or why do they have the MC forgive and move on from a hurt when the reader is still trying to process it.
I heard someone say that in the book the heroine had “x” amount of time but to the reader it is only a couple pages.
Amy, hope this weekend is just what you need. Cuddle that husband of yours.
It does seem like many of us are not able to comment as often. I love the new “faces” that have joined in. Yet, I sometimes miss not seeing the old group as often.
Actually, Bev, those questions you just asked make you a perfect beta. OK, maybe not the squirrel part though!
I can see why you, fabi, and Cheryl would make a good beta. I’d think Amy might too. I’m horrible at working from home. I have no self discipline.
*glances guiltily at house & homework*
Thanks, Fabi and Bev. 🙂 I really, really, REALLY miss popping in here and chatting with you ladies whenever I want.
I’m going to relax and cuddle with hubby this weekend at the B&B, and I’m going to give serious thought to putting in my notice for work on Monday. I’m working half of what I was, but it’s still a lot when I combine it with being at school for 5 to 7 hours each day (17 credits…what the %&$# was I thinking) and the homework my teachers are slamming me with. I’m not kidding when I say y’all have been a HUGE part of my life for a while now, and I miss you guys so freaking much. Okay, my emotional speech is over now…
Bev, you should definitely read CB!!! I’m even loving the dual POV right now. It cut down on the angst, which – surprisingly – is what I need right now. It’s such a fun, sweet book with just the right amount of drama! 😀
And I don’t know if ANYONE would want me to beta read for them…I would be nitpicking every little thing, and the author would probably hate me. *snort*
Hi R!!! *waves at R*
Pssst…Maryse.
Maryse.
MARRRRRYYYYYYSE!!!!!!
Hi.
😛
Tee hee Amy!! I just saw your psssst.
I’ve been herb gardening. 😉 I love my thyme!!!! And oregano. And Basil. Oh especially my basil!!!!
Amy….17 credits??? Wow. I’m impressed.
Yay for Amy’s smarts, too!!! 😀
Hi Amy! *waves back* Happy weekend!
Oh, there’s a Smashbox primer oil and a foundation primer. I got the foundation primer the other day at Sephora, but think what I really want is the oil. I tend to be dry, so unlike Amy I think this will work for me and give me the glow/dewy look I want.
Cheryl, the oil is what I use and I love it. Very dewy. Exactly!!! I’m scared of foundation still so I just don’t even try…
Amy, 17 credit hours? First semester back? You’re insane! Ha! Not that we didn’t already know that. 😉 You’ll do great. I know you will. You already have the discipline of working from home. But definitely back out of those work hours if you can. It’ll just be one more stressor you don’t need. Classes generally get more intense after the halfway mark in the semester.
My daughter went back to grad school this semester, after taking a year off after graduating with her BA, and I think she’s a bit shocked at how much work it is being back in school, even after a relatively short break.
Amy, 17 credits and WORKING! You really are amazing! Enjoy your weekend with the hubby.
I know what you mean about this group, when real life gets in the way and I can’t catch up with everyone, I miss it so much!! Highlight of my day. Always brings a smile to my face and usually makes me laugh out loud!!
Bev… READ. CB. Seriously, you will love it!! 🙂
Amy, I agree with Fabi, work + 17 hours is too much.
Hey ladies…
I think we should all wave (and wink) at Amy’s hubby. Just so he knows we won’t hold a grudge for taking her away from us for a weekend.
*waves and winks* at Mr. Amy
I love you guys. I really do. <—– said as I sniffle and sob and wipe tears…yeah, I'm emotional right now. I wish we all lived near each other so we could hang out in person, but this is the next best thing.
Okay, I gotta go. Hubby is packing up the car. Love you guys and talk to you soon.
"Mr. Amy" *sniffle-giggle-hiccup* By the way, he's waving and winking back. 😉
I miss you Amyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
What you taste testing Maryse?
I LOVE basil!! Chop it up with some garlic and tomatoes and toss with olive oil, then put some on top of toasted baguette slices and YUM. And thyme…lemon-thyme chicken is the bestest stuff. Now *I* want to start an herb garden once we get all settled in.
YES!!! We should have a monthly Ipsy chat now that so many of us are getting Ipsy bags. 😀
I received an email with a link to show me what I’m getting in my bag…I’m getting the Tarte Lipsurgence lip creme in Wonder as well! I already have 4 or 5 of those and love them, so I can’t wait to try this color. Looks like I’m also getting the blending brush (*high fives Maryse*), Morrocanoil hair treatment (love hair-taming oils), Ofra eyeshadow in Bohemian and Bright Eyes eye-enhancing eyeliner (those are great for the bottom waterline). BUT, I saw what *could* have been in my bag and *pblttttttt* to those of you who got some of those things. 😛 Just kidding…I’m actually excited to see what y’all think of those items!
Yes too on the IPSY monthly chat. The Bright Eyes eyeliner sounds interesting Amy. The Tarte lippy was popular this month. Blending brush- is that for eyeshadow?? Which items were you “jealous” of Amy?? 😉
SO many, Cheryl…the Dreamcatcher tapered highlighter brush, the Starlooks rose gold cream eyeshadow, the Jelly Pong Pong blush+contour palette and the Neapolitan palette, and the Buxom Wildly Whipped lightweight liquid lipstick.
Sooooo, if any of you get any those, I want to hear about them! 😀
