Well well wellllll… π I think we can consider today the ULTIMATE of release days! WHOA. Heavy hitters coming at us from all angles, from series sequels, series conclusions (like that one there to the left!!!) and brand new “book #1’s” by some of our most favorite authors.
Fabi:Β I forgot Firstlife by Gena Showwalter comes out today too. squeeeeeeeeeeeeΒ Why do all the good books come out at the same time for me?
Maryse:Β Right there with you, Fabi. Today is delightfully ridiculous!!!!
Jean:Β Squeeing this morning with Ground Rules Undone and Soulless on my Kindle! Do I have to go to work today?
Michele:Β Jean lol, it was delivered to my kindle on the 22nd at 9:00pm and I stayed up to read it!!
bev:Β Maryse, write Jean a note so she can stay home. Me to cause I want to go back to sleep.
Maryse: :D!!! *ahem*
“Dear people in charge of Jean (and bev)β¦
She needs to stay home today. There are urgencies that need her immediate attention, and that will aid to improve her overall future mental focus.
Perhaps even a second day, would help resolve said urgencies.
β Maryse
Fellow book-addict enabler”
LOL!!! I LOVE US!!!
But what about the books you WEREN’T expecting? I found ’em and I highlighted ’em below. YAY US! Seriously… I have four that I’m struggling to decide on for my “next”. I want to read them all at the same time!
Maryse: The Ground Rules: Undone (The Rule Breakers Series Book 3)Β isΒ LIVE LIVE LIVE!!!! RELIEF and I can finally finish this angsty forbidden romance trilogy. 2 married couples with an agreement. Lots of *oomph!!* Lots of trouble. Rules schmoolz! *snort*
Cristina: SQUEEE!! I’m so excited!! I feel like I’ve been waiting FOREVER! How will it end?!?!?! I had an extra pep in my step today thanks to this new release!!!
Maryse: I’m avoiding ALL reviews. AT this point, I don’t know which team will win, and I can’t wait to FEEL it!!! π
Cristina: I’m avoiding all the reviews too! I want to go into this blind! It makes for a better reading experience! I want ALL the feels!! I’m re-reading the series now so I can go straight into #3. I’m about 50% into #2 and will be reading #3 tonight! Oh the angst!!!
Traci: I didn’t realize there was a book 2
Kristy: Already in my kindle! !cant freakin wait!!
Holly: So excited!! LOVE this series! Ticks all the boxes for me
I think it’s safe to say that finalizing this trilogy is one of the top contenders on my TBR list. But what about these that are also making me one-click finger twitchy? π
Like…Β DeepΒ (I love Skye Warren, and her heroine falls for the head of a criminal gang…),Β Target on Our BacksΒ (actually, I’d need to start from the beginning in this series, but everyone seems to LOVE Monster in his Eyes, and I love this author, so I want in!!), andΒ Hidden BodiesΒ (I loved #1 – creepy stalker love story, so I can’t wait to see where #2 takes us…) andΒ Slip of the TongueΒ (actually that one is coming out in a couple of days, but her perfect marriage is crumbling when her husband seems to no longer want her, and she gets a sexy new neighbor… MINE!) andΒ Midnight LilyΒ (also coming out in a few days, but hello? Mia Sheridan!!! LOL OF COURSE!!!!) and then… this one out of the recommendations section (End of Day (Jack & Jill Series Book 1)Β because OMG look at those recommendations!!!! How can I possibly resist).
So now? I have THREE trilogies to read. Finish my Ground Rules, Start and finish both “Monster in his Eyes”, and now “Jack & Jill”. YAY ME!!! π
P.S. Let me know if Iβm missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Donβt have a Kindle? No problem!Β Amazon offers variousΒ freeΒ Kindle appsΒ and a freeΒ Kindle Cloud readerΒ for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like youβre using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <β No need to download anything!Β Β )

Maryse: I’m thrilled because I’ve read this author before and LOVED her book, and this trilogy has been intriguing me big time!! π
Marina:Β Hi Maryse, I know I went on and on about this series in my faves of 2015, but I just finished Dawn of Forever (the 3rd/finale to the series) and this series is just an ABSOLUTE MUST READ!!!!! You HAVE TO READ IT MARYSE!!!!! All 3 books must be read in order and all the way through to get the full story. I have no idea how/why this series is so under the radar. It could so be a movie. It is such a clever, unique, well-written, witty, emotions all over the place journeyβ¦ Not one hot guy, but two, actually 3! Itβs just so flippin good! Straight up perfection. 5 stars!!!!! Marina: You MUST MUST MUST. I havenβt been going crazy town (although I so have) because you know how sometimes books can be built up too much and then they donβt live up. But I really, truly think this series should absolutely NOT BE MISSED. I seriously am having a hard time moving on. I need one of those βwhat to read afterβ lists. And all 3 books are out so you donβt have to wait! I just realized I forgot to put End of Day first in above commentβ¦ Even the titles are so cleverβ¦ Donβt want to say too muchβ¦ Best to just dive in for the whole ride!! Canβt wait for you to read it!!!!!!!!!
Rebecca: … read Jack and Jill. Immediately. I made my husband listen to so many parts out loud that were hysterical – and then I would be crying. He was like what the HECK are you reading?!?! I will seriously pay you money if you don’t love love it. It was definitely the best read for me in a long time. I also have a new book boyfriend. Maybe 2 actually.

For those of us who love the Original Sinners by Tiffany Reisz, I just found out she has a FREE novella out called Little Red Riding Crop! It’s a pre-quel to The Mistress. I will take any book I can get from this series and did I mention FREE!
Oops! Pre-quel to The Siren, not Mistress. Any book is a great book in this series!
Robyn, I need to read this series once and for all. All that read it, LOVE it and I’ve only read #1 so far…
I just finished the Jack and Jill series and it was fantastic! Loved every thing about the series. Ground Rules Undone is next. Can’t wait.
Hmm I dunno guys I don’t know what I’m in the mood for nothing’s really appealing to me right now π you know when ur feeling like that but u just can’t put ur finger on what u actually want? Like I want paranormal but not really but I want some angst but not really ughghh help!! I don’t even know if I want serious or not I do know I don’t want dark I’m not in the mood! Help! Suggestions??
Laura… you must have a sort of mood, though right? Like… what book would you LOVE to read for the first time, right now?
PLAY TO WIN by Tiffany Snow is fabulous. Reading to see who Sage chooses is one heck of a rollercoaster ride. I concur with everything SALLY said in her comment about the book and it’s author!!!!
Hey Tiffany snows new book is out today play to win can’t wait
Wow. I just don’t have enough time to read all of the books I want! I’m currently in book two of the City Lights series (loving it btw), but there’s so many on your list!!! I can’t keep up lol
How do ya’ll organize your “to be read” list so you don’t forget about books with all the new ones you are adding?
*snort* Kandra… organized TBR lists? Er… well for me… I post them here, publicly (you know… to hold me accountable for my own lists), read half of them, and create a whole new one with all new books. LOL!!!
Yeah… I’m not very organized that way. But at least I have a history of lists I can revisit. π
Hi, Maryse!
Thx so much for mentioning my novel, Shades of Chocolate! I appreciate it! You have a wonderful day!
Cecelia… I love chocolate. It’s my pleasure. π
After all the excitement of today’s releases, now I’m freaking about Midnight Lily for next week!
This list is out of control! I 1-clicked like crazy and most I already purchased or preordered!
*Stomp, stomp, stomp* I’m done adulting. I don’t want to adult any more today. I haven’t so much as gotten to lock my door and hide to read my kindle *errr I mean* use the bathroom today!
Maryse… The Ground Rules Undone is sitting on my kindle taunting me. Can you please do me a solid and tell my family that I need the night off? There will be no further adulting done in my house tonight. Oh, and we aren’t commenting on this list yet either. For shame… I may never get to read if I Check out the list!
Grey…
*scribbles off a “for the family” version of that note*
π
Here ya go!! π
Laura, I’ve been going through that off & on since Christmas! I’m 1-clicking like crazy (I somehow ended up with $225 worth of Amazon gift cards) but I’ve started & stopped DOZENS of books….or scrolled through my list over & over, reading & re-reading each synopsis. Sometimes re-reading old favorites will get me inspired & over the slump.
All y’all who are just SOOOOOOO excited about the Ground Rules and running around gushing about it… *PBLLLLLTTTTT!!!* Yeah, I said it!
I’m barely going to have time to *breathe* this week, let alone become absorbed in that series. I want to binge on it and read them straight through and back-to-back so I’m holding off until Friday.
So y’all just keep enjoying your little excursion into that debaucherous world. It’ll be my turn soon. Just you wait. *crosses arms* π
*sticks tongue out at Amy*
You just watch it Jean…I’m gonna snatch that work note of yours and hide it!
Lol yeah what Amy said!!! I’ve got all three Ground Rules now lined up and the Jack and Jill series after that!!!! Cannot WaIt!!! But alas must wait til end of week and that just plain ole SUCKS big I tell ya!!!!
I’m at 40% in The Ground Rules *waves at Amy* and my god my emotions are all over the place. I’m not sure what I feel about this “arrangement.” I do know this sentence affected me “And as soon as I see his face, I know.” Kinda like I felt in After I Do with “I met someone.” Ugh, this series is going to gut me. I know it’s only going to get worse because, like I said I’m only at 40% in the first book and there’s 2 more books!! *reaches for bottle of wine*
YAY CHERYL!!! Exactly how I felt. π Gut-punch of anxiety and excitement…
Laura, that is always the worst feeling. Its like when your hungry but nothing sounds good & end up with like fried rice and orange juice, lol.
I’m planning on starting Cottonwood tonight by R. Lee Smith. You could join me. π
I love fried rice… and orange juice. Now I want that. π
Cottonwood sounds like dark reading fun… and it’s only 450-something pages. Hmmmm… I want it too.
Oh Amy. Girl, I’ll be waiting for you on Friday with my margarita (I’m choosing to celebrate National Margarita Day on Friday) pointing and laughing as you WTF all over the place with your angsty pretzel tummy…
Cheryl… oh here honey. here’s Manny… and some wine… you’re gonna need it!
Ok. Adulting is officially over for the night. Just need to be tooth fairy in a bit here. So sh*t, I guess I’m not offiicially, officially done. But I can do that WAY later. Like, when I’m done with this book later.
I have no official system or tbr.
Maryse, it has been a while since you have posted a tbr list.
I really want to try that cauliflower rice you posted about as I love it too. Of course I douse with soy sauce.
OMG ME TOO. I LOVE Soy sauce. I also love Pontu sauce? Soy and lime juice. OMG
YUM YUM YUM!
Here’s a good recipe (although I didn’t add sesame oil – I don’t like it much), and I improvised a lot. Tons more veggies…
https://allrecipes.com/recipe/236284/cauliflower-fried-rice/
And here’s another recipe that I consult:
https://www.facebook.com/foodbeast/videos/10153517971754281/
Maryse, The Orginal Sinners is one of the best series out there! You will not be disappointed. It meets all of our book requirements. I guarantee you will have a huge crush on Soren, Kingsley and Eleanor by the end. They come as a team!
Those look really good. I will have to try one this weekend. The lime juice too.
I was just thinking about how I have tbr books organized in my kindle- I think I have too many collections. There has to be a better, more succint way to organize my tbr books.
Hahaha so what you saying is its hopeless? π
Well, I finished Ground Rules Undone. I’m anxiously awaiting what other people’s opinions are before I post my own. Any review I give at this point will ruin the series for this who haven’t read it. Anyone finished yet?
I’ve been waiting all day for someone to pop in here with some brilliant idea on how to organize the Kindle tbr.
…
*still waiting***
…
*sigh*
back to my mess I guess. I have a tbr, a 2016 tbr, a freebie tbr, a samples tbr, a must read tbr, a readers fav tbr and a read next tbr — plus I have tons of category collections that include read and tbr books like fantasy, sci-fi, cr, ya, na, etc. — it’s insanity at its wildest – lol
I don’t know if this would be a spoiler but is The Ground Rules books all in Mirella’s POV only?
*are* not is
Yes Cheryl. It’s all from Mirella’s point of view.
Thanks Cristina! Mixed thoughts on whether would like different pov(s). π
I just realized. Two weeks!!! Only two weeks!!!
hmmm , I bet I know what Bev is squeeling about.
First lizard aliens and now bug aliens.
Fabi, the courtyard & also Mercy!
I figured you were squeeeing about the courtyard.
Omg! I just found Specimen on my Kindle. Guess I’d pre-ordered it and forgot. That is next, no if or buts about it!
Did I mention you need to read Jack and Jill? I am not sure if I adequately expressed how excited I was. I may have seemed under-enthused. π I am telling you….telling anyone who will listen…telling everyone…READ IT! you will not be disappointed. I think I only slept 3 hours a night each night once I started the series- I literally could not put it down. I am dying to start the finale of the Ground Rules and am part way through Hidden Bodies. Why can’t my job just be reading books?!
Fabi- me too about the Specimen! I totally forgot about that one and I LOVE her- everything she has written! I do not know how to choose what to read right now, I am like a total book spaz at the moment! And, want to read all of these before Midnight Lily too. GAH!!!! I also wish I had some suggestions for organizing my kindle TBR…if I told you all how many unread books I have…you would not believe me. It has four digits and it doesn’t start with a “1”. I will quite possibly never live to finish it. So depressing!! HA!
I really want to read Slip of the Tongue. I hope I remember to buy it when it comes out, I saw its on KU too. I’m in the mood for a high angst read.
Fabi… Specimen was great. It’s so different from our usual. A book only Shay Savage could pull off.
I binge read 3 of Lauren Layne’s books this month (Blurred Lines, and 2 Oxford series books). I’ve never read anything by her before, Her books have a little bit of everything: humor, chemistry, tension and angst. Plus the books were super hot between the sheets. Her men are dirty talkers and her girls are full of sass. I’m looking forward to,starting her other series. I gave all the books a high 4 stars.
Ooh bev what is cottonwood about? Maryse I ended up starting the ground rules since u were all going crazy about it and I KNEW there was a reason I hadn’t started this yet i KNEW I was scared of this book but nooooo I had to start reading it and I can’t deal with it i keep thinking of it as me and my hubby and I think I would just kill him poor guy has been getting dirty looks all night and hasn’t even done anything lol I would just be so jealous I can’t!!
Ok I’ve finished the 1st book and …… I don’t know how I feel I don’t like the feeling I think I just want her to be with gabe and that’s that I don’t think I can even read the second book cause I really don’t think that going to happen! I think I don’t like it cause I keep trying to put myself in the situation and I just can’t do it lol this is going on ur list of I will never forgive you for this recommendation maryse lol!
I have been devouring the Consequences series. I forgot who recommended it (THANK YOU) – but after book 1, I am hooked – and maybe even like Tony a teeny tiny bit. When I’m done, I am going to read The Ground Rules then The Lie. I got book plans!!!!
Sharon, I’m so happy you are loving the Consequences series! I read it last month and it was quite a rush of emotions!
I posted a spoiler forum for the Ground Rules series. I have WAY too many feelings about the conclusion of this series to keep them bottled up. I’m anxious to get other people’s opinions too. I didn’t want to post anything on here because people should go into book 3 completely blind. You need all the feels for this series. I, too, avoided all reviews until I finished book 3. π
Tgru….*WTF* was that!
Nope.
Screw it.
CANNONBALL!!!!
Yep, I’m jumping into The Ground Rules. Supposed to start purging and packing at home, supposed to be wrapping things up at work so I can pass the torch to my successor, but instead I’m submersing myself in all of that craziness of TGR.
Priorities, man. Priorities. π
“…laughing as you WTF all over the place” <—– LOL!!! You know me well, my dear.
I love ponzu sauce!! Also, when I have sushi I *have* to mix ginger and wasabi into my soy sauce in the little dish before I dip the sushi in it. Anyone else eat it that way? 9:00 in the morning and I'm already craving sushi…
I actually place a slice of ginger right on my sushi piece, dip in the soy and YUM YUM YUM!!
Wasabi is a bit jarring to me, but I do like it every once in awhile VERY diluted in the sauce
Hi Rebecca, I too am wanting Maryse and anyone and everyone to read Jack and Jill IMMEDIATELY… Funny we both told her to “bump it up” in our comments. And all 3 books can all be read in a row! I had to wait with cliffhangers which was tough. THEY ARE SOOOO GOOD!!! I TOO am ANXIOUSLY AWAITING to read Hidden Bodies. Trying not to put the $ down and am next in line for the hold at the library but… knowing me if it does not come by tomorrow, I’ll buy it. Because I CANNOT WAIT TO READ IT!!! Can you just tell me if it’s as good as You? As unputdownable? Finishing up a book club book, Euphoria, which is good. But tomorrow it’s Hidden Bodies and then 2 and 3 of Ground Rules! Then Midnight Lily. Ugh too many books and too little time….. Also need to check out the recipes!!!
*gives a big happy smile* Seth is pure awesome. Far better than Saint Aiden. π *yep, I’m throwing out the fighting words!* I swear, though, I want the next book NOW! I’m tempted to move Seth into my BBF top 5.
TESSA! Oooooh, you are in so much trouble…I’m sending you to the Courtyard for that comment. Nope, no arguments! Just pack up Seth (who I’m sure is smirking right now) and go. *points toward Courtyard*
You hear that, Bev? I’m sending Tessa over to you until she can play nice. She’s trying to ruffle my feathers over here and I’ll not have it right now!!
*stares at The Ground Rules*
*bounces leg while trying to gather the courage to open TGR*
Jack & Jill… *sigh* Yet another series I’m anxious to read. Not helping, Marina and Rebecca. π
do it . do it. Do it! Come on Amy!
Marina, I have been trying so hard to find the time to FINISH it and work is crazy crazy this week but so far, it is awesome and page turning good! And, yes, I am scared to hype it too much because I don’t want it to be a let down (I hate when that happens and I probably would have thought it was great if I wasn’t expecting fireworks)- but, I seriously cannot recommend it enough. I was kicking myself for not starting it sooner. I would even re-read it (and I usually never do that!) to enjoy it again. Jackson is my secret boyfriend and Luke is my new book boyfriend π
Susanna kearsley has two books on sale on Amazon. Marianna is $1.99 and the other is Named of the Dragon for 99cents
Maryse are you reading Ground Rules right now? I’m dying to see your thoughts.
Grey, did I see above that you finished it?
Ok, finished book 1 and now reading Ground Rules Rewritten. This series is messing with my head. I’m not sure what to think of it. I’m “feeling” what Mirella is feeling. Frustration, confusion, angst, anxiety, “smexy” times. Not sure what to think of Gabe- he acts like quite the horn-dog. I don’t think I like him. I think this would be one of those books where I would like to read the male POV; I think or it could add to my angst. UGH!!! *re-fills wine glass*
Agreed Cheryl, especially about Gabe. I’m curious what you’ll think of him after the first part of book 2. It’s definitely an unconventional situation and that’s putting it mildly. π
Come on over Tessa. We will go shopping at the crows store and the book store.
Amy, are you moving? Were you the one moving to Hawaii?
Cristina I’m at 50% of book 2. It’s hard for me to figure out Gabe with only Mirella’s view, but for the most part he seems happy with the situation and taking full advantage of it.
Oooh, New job Amy?
Um, I’m sure somehow it’s a bad thing to hang out in the Courtyard with Seth. *Skips happily to the Courtyard with Seth in tow* Hey Beg, meet my second place BBF. He’s so awesome he kicked all but Mason off the list. Yeah, oersonallity-wise, he and Mason are so alike.
Um, you are all scaring me eith Ground Rules. I got the first, but…
Isn’t Jack and Jill KU?
Nope, it’s not KU anymore.
I looked up Ground Rules and I READ IT in June. I remember it now. Good, but not “knock your socks off good” since I can’t remember anything but the basics. If I don’t remember the character’s names, then that’s a sure sign.
Cottonwood, eh? Bev – it’s R Lee Smith, so I bet it’s good. Maybe I will join you, if I can get through Uprooted. I’m almost done. Hit a slow part and started looking at Pinterest. Next thing you know I am ordering sandals for summer. Not reading costs me more $$ than reading.
Tessa – I am totally a Seth girl myself. Yipee. I also chose Ranger, Kade, and now Rowan. For any who have read these books, you’ll understand.
Fabi – your TBR sounds exactly like mine. My Kindle right now has 2014 TBR, 2015 TBR, 2016 TBR. Then it has “To Finish Sometime” (which I hardly ever do – should have never made this category). Then all my categories by author is many books (like K Ashley, for example) and by genre after that (YA, NA, Dystopian, PNR, MC Clubs, etc).
What I wish is that I could log onto Amazon and work on collections. Doing it on ANY Kindle is too cumbersome. I have the paperwhite and had the original one and it takes so much time.
I found an excerpt on the author’s blog page. It’s Westons’s Pov: Their First Meeting. Not sure if this was posted previously, because it’s from December.
https://royacarmen.com/
I was looking to see if the author had posted Mirella’s playlist. There is that too on spotify. There are different lists for each book
https://play.spotify.com/user/royacarmen/playlist/1WbfqlmxfJHDxQ0bDjl6Ve
Omg yes MichelleS! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could work on my Kindle collections on the computer instead of on the Kindle app.
I finished it. Wow. I’ve got nothing. I don’t want to spoil nothing. So I’m not saying a word.
Thanks Cheryl. I love it when authors put up playlists and such!
Mmmm… I’m thinking Specimen by Shay Savage… or maybe Hidden Bodies. I need dark right now… like real dark…
I just randomly remembered a really dark book I read YEARS ago. Green River Rising.
Maryse has a new list going.
Just finished Ricochet and have to say it was major intense. Maybe a little too graphic and dark for me. Now I’m 20% The Ground Rules Undone and I’m so frustrated. I really need things to move along.
It is good so far MichelleS. Not, to me, Gann level of good but still. One character I’m curious about but total a$$. And I’m 99.9% sure really bad things are going to happen. Theme with her books? Different reading about insect type creatures.
MichelleS, I like Rowan, but Dorian is so awesome. :-). Also, I named a sweet, narcissistic megalomaniac pixie Rowan. She’s the only Rowan for me. π
I wish my Kindle app would just let me hover over the book and give me the beginning of the synopsis. That would make it so much easier to sort into collections.
Bev, have you read Heat? No insects in that one that I recall.
Tessa, when I open a Kindle book it opens the synopsis for me. If I’ve read it before I can click on the contents and choose synopsis from there.
I meant to get a start on the Ground Rules series but I’ve been waylaid by Susan Fanetti’s Signal Bend series (and there’s six books to it).
But, honestly, I’m just scared. (As usual).
Fabi, isn’t that the real dark one? With harvesting and such?
I’m really hooked into this one. Just having a harder time imaging their physical look.
If any have read it I would be interested in reading Samaritan’s story.
Lisa,I’m a bit scared of it too. Someday, sometime.
The only reading order I care about right now is Harris, Bishop, and Briggs. Happy claps.
Again I agree Cheryl!
Grey I’m right with you. I don’t want to say anything so I don’t spoil it for anyone else. Honestly, I was speechless and we’ll leave it at that… For now π
Heat was my first R. Lee Smith book….highly recommend if you haven’t read it yet. I’ve downloaded The Scholomance…that will be my next read by her.
Tessa and Fabi…the Kindle app I have on my iPad (which is how I read my Kindle books) as well as my iPhone lets me see the synopsis if I just hold my finger over the book. A box pops up with options like recommend, book details and add to collection. Does your app do that?
MichelleS…that’s one of the ways I have my books sorted, and I have been able to finally get to books that I bought up to 3 years ago by moving through each collection in order by year. It has been a *tremendous* help for me. π
Bev…yep, we’re moving!! π After the huge disappointment of not getting the house I fell in love with a couple of weeks ago, we found one that I love just as much (actually, more!) and they accepted our offer over all of the others!!!! I love you guys for the encouragement you all gave me when the other house didn’t work out. *hugs all around*
That’s great news Amy. Congrats! Are you moving out of state? You said you were giving your notice at work…
My Kindle app on my mini iPad does that but the one on my Android phone does not have that feature. It just pops up with the book info and blurb when I open a book for the first time. Afterwards, I can always get back to it from the contents menu.
Congratulations Amy. Glad it’s all worked out for you. We’ve bought and sold a few times over the years and its so disappointing to miss out on a house you get your heart set on….but I think it usually means the universe is telling you a better house is out there with your name on it.; )
Tessa…not a new job, just cutting back on my workload a bit so I can retake my sciences while I decide what field I want to switch to. Biology, A&P, chemistry, microbiology…ya know, all of the stuff that is a lot easier when we have younger brains. π
Oh, and Bev…yep, we’re considering a move to Hawaii in a few years. Maybe. Not sure. *sigh* I don’t know…
Maryse…if you love ginger like that then you need to try beni shoga. OMG it’s the BEST!! Red pickled, shredded ginger that is *amazing* on stir fry.
Stephanie, Ricochet was kind of graphic but at least *some* of it was left to our imaginations. I don’t know that I could have handled some of those scenes had they been described, like the one with Danielle/Sapphire. π
Congratulations Amy and Aloha.
*shrugs*
IDK
Fabi…thank you! And nope, we’re just moving about 15 minutes away but I’m so excited! Fortunately I work from home so I can move literally anywhere and still do my work, but I’m cutting back to take some classes. *shudder* I feel like the h from Good at the end of Better, a “mature” lady in class with a bunch of kids, lol. I want you to be one of my teachers! π Then again, I would probably get you in trouble by distracting you during the lesson. π
Thanks Lisa! I think that’s exactly what happened. π Do you still wake up in the middle of the night in a panic after signing the contract to purchase a home and wonder what you’ve just done? Or maybe it’s just me. *snort*
LOL, Bev. π Maybe in a few years y’all can come out to Hawaii and get lei’d with me. π I know, oldest joke around…
Oh nice! Major congrats Amy! That’s awesome.
I want what Amy’s does. I just don’t like opening new books until I’m ready to read them. Then, it jumps to the front of the queue and I’m going nutty trying to find a specific newer book. The only ones super organized is the KU books one and my paid for/ unread books. I would go nuts trying to figure out where all the books are. However, I would love to separate the paranormal collection into something smaller. There’s way too many in that one.
Thank you, Tessa!
I’m telling ya, it is so worth the time it takes to organize books into collections on the Kindle app. The best time to work on organizing them, for me at least, is when I have no idea what to read and nothing sounds appealing. At least then I feel like I am doing something constructive instead of wasting valuable “book time.” π
Hell yes Amy. When we bought our current house the kitchen was practically non existent and the bathroom was the size of a closet and had 50 year old tiles and fittings. Two years later and we’re still renovating and living amid the chaos.
I wake up and wonder what I’ve done every day of my life LOL.
Congrats Amy and yes, I did wake up in a sweat wondering OMG what have we done and did we pay too much? But it did work out, even though I still feel like we paid too much!
Good luck with classes, I’ve been the “older” woman in class too. Somehow I felt better about it because I was more focused on studies vs. social aspect , like younger students and me when I was that student! Maybe some of your classes you can take online- did that too and loved the convenience.
Hawaii- Yeh!!! Maybe we can visit Weston at his house!! (The Ground Rules!!) We can all get led’d together- *the flower kind, snort*
That’s it I’m starting ground rules book 1 now… I can’t not start it after all those reviews!!
“It was almost seven o’clock on a Wednesday morning, which found Sarah Fowler sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and reading the help-wanted ads and singing under her breath in no particular key.-Cottonwood by R. Lee Smith
Very long first line, lol.
mine makes up for it :-/
βDo it.β
Specimen by Shay Savage
Lol, Fabi.
Amy, congrats to you! Everything happens for a reason!
I have so many folders in my Kindle collection I can’t even list them all!
Bev and Fabi, your first lines are so opposite! Bev, you have me intrigued with Cottonwood and I already bought Specimen Fabi, so keep me updated!
Here’s my first line of the Prologue. (I know that’s kinda cheating, but I liked it better than the first line of chaper 1).
“I was mad at the world, at the whiskey for not being strong enough, at the drugs for not lasting long enough, at the f*&king whores I banged for not getting me off when it was my fault my d!*k was fucking useless after a bucket of f*&king blow.” (Soulless by T.M. Frazier).
Here’s the actual first line:
“I went into my old man’s office to let him know that the shipment he’d been asking about for the last month was finally at the gate.”
Jean, you always have the best first lines, LOL!!!
*runs hand across forehead* Whew, so I’m not the only one who freaks out right after buying a new house. Cheryl and Lisa are right there with me!
“Few words were spoken.” ~ The Ground Rules by Roya Carmen
Ladies, I don’t know if I can do this with TGR. Seriously. Y’all know about my stupid double standards in books and how I feel about certain things, and I’m afraid I’m going to lose my sh!t over this one. And not in the way I like to with books. *sigh* Remember that part in After I Do which Cheryl referenced up there? Yeah, I felt like I was going to throw up at that part and I don’t think I have ever gotten over it, even though I loved that book with how beautifully tumultuous it was and that pressure-releasing ending. Please, please, PLEASE talk me back from the edge…
Amy!!! YAY on the new house!!! π So exciting and nerve-wracking.
And my inner middle schooler is giggling at Fabi’s first line. π
Okay, now I’m intrigued after reading the excerpt for Cottonwood on Amazon and the first review listed. Gah, Bev! How do you find these??
I didn’t know prologues didn’t count towards a first line. It’s still the first line, right? This is the first line from my prologue.
First Line Thursday:
‘It was not time for me to go yet – I had just returned home.’
Unborn by Amber Lynn Natusch
Amy, I’m surprised you’re reading it with your issue. I got it, but am too nervous to try due to my issue. lol Though, this is different than the book that totally traumatized my 13-14 year old self.
Thanks Rebecca’s on your feedback on Hidden Bodies. So tempted to start the sample… but still holding out for the library 1 more day. I picked up End of Day just to reread the beginning and realized there were things I completely forgot. Definitely plan to reread it all sometime. I laughed so hard at some parts. And i agree Luke and Jackson both total babes!!! She wrote them so well. I plan to read everything of hers!!
I’ve been on such a reading roll this year, eventually I knew I’d hit a slump in the road. That time has come. *hangs head down* I finished the Ground Rules and Risky Business series this week and now I have no clue what I’m in the mood for next. Honestly, I don’t think its so much of a slump as it is that a particular book didn’t end well for me at all. It’s put me in a terrible mood. π
I’m getting the feeling some people were unhappy with the ending of Ground Rules Undone, but I was completely satisfied with the ending!
JEAN – Thank you thank you thank you for posting your first line. I didn’t even know Soulless was out yet. I loved King and Tyrant and Lawless. Poor poor Bear. Totally my next read.
First Line Thursday for me…. “Our dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley.” (He’s an immortal wizard who takes a girl to his tower every ten years from the nearby village. He protects the realm for the King, from the evil ‘Wood’). So good. UPROOTED, by Naomi Novik.
Congrats Amy on a new house. Best part of moving is getting rid of half the junk we collect over the years. Do you have a cool reading spot picked out, like Maryse’s?
OK – I finished The Ground Rules Undone. After multiple times of putting the back down because it made me so angry, I finally finished. I’m not sure I have ever had a book leave me this angry before. It’s very strange. But after being so invested in the first two and for it to take the path it did in the third, very unhappy. So much to say. The worst part in the book is the husband’s reaction to her “news”. I wanted to kick him. There were FOUR people who agreed to this arrangement and they have to know that when your participate in sexual activity there is always a risk. UGH! I’m still not over his reaction.
MichelleS I have Uprooted on my tbr and had it scheduled for a Feb read but now it doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to fit it in. π It’s up asap though. Sounds like you’re enjoying it.
Amy, I understand where you are coming from. Although, if you stick with it I don’t think the “double-standard” will get to you as much since this is essentially permissible, “sanitized cheating.” We don’t get too much in the way of the husband’s pov or much from her “concerns” re: his arrangement. She reminds me of Kiera from Thoughtless- her motto seems to be “love the one you’re with!” Having said that my emotions are all over the place and I have no idea how this will turn out. Jean’s comment makes me even more nervous. GAH!! Also, I have to rant about an “issue” because it is driving me crazy. This may be a spoiler for book 3. so,
POSSIBLE SPOILER BOOK 3********************************
Why is it always the woman’s fault? Why can he not see her because he promised her he wouldn’t, but he can stay with her?? *ok rant over*
First line thursday:
“The rules were written.” The Ground Rules: Undone (Book 3) by Roya Carmen.
And Amy just thinking of that part from After I Do, still guts me.
Oooh. They all end up with chlamydia.
Fabi I love that you schedule your reads.
“Do it.” Specimen by Shay Savage
Awesome Grey. Now there’s 3 of us reading it. Michelle said she’s reading it tonight.
Bev, I wish I could say I stick to my schedule. But…”ooohhh shiny…”
MichelleS, I’m so jealous. I’ve been eyeing that one since it appeared in a bookclub on Goodreads I lurk. The synopsis alone makes me excited. π
ARGHHHHHH, Mirella is driving me CRAZY!!!! She is one wishy-washy, messed-up biotch!!!! I have to finish this book soon, it’s driving me mad.
Finally able to sit down and read for a bit. I swear I’m having reading withdrawals!
I’m going to give TGR a shot again, but I don’t know about reading it right now. I think I’m just too distracted with everything right now to fully enjoy it, ya know? π I think what I need is a good PNR that I’ll really like but can put down easily.
Hey, how are y’all liking Specimen? I might just give that one a try…
MichelleS, I DO have a special spot that I’m going to fix up just for reading. π I’m so excited to pick up everything I’ll need to fix up my own little reading area! I’m even going to get a new Keurig that I can keep right next to my reading chair so I don’t have to go far for my coffee and tea. ‘Cause I’m lazy like that. π
Broken record (yet again) but I really do love how much feedback we get from each other here on different books. I have found and read so many books from various genres that I *know* I wouldn’t have tried otherwise…you guys are the bestest ever!
Speaking of feedback Amy…I’m only at 30% of Specimen, but so far it has been all in male POV. Perfect for me, not so perfect for you ,so I thought I’d give you a heads up before you buy it and grrrr over it.
That’s what I thought, Fabi…to be honest, I think this is one of the rare times when that sort of book (male POV) would work best for me! Will wonders never cease. π
Cheryl, should I just delete TGR? It is not my usual any way and I can sometimes be hard on heroines.
Like Taking Chances and the Avoiding series (dnf). Could. Not. Stand. Them. So much so that I do not want to try another book by them, lol. *shrugs*
Holy shit….. Ladies! So I started ground rules 1 yesterday and just one clicked ground rules rewritten! I’m at a loss for words…
I wasn’t gonna say anything because I try and be good like my mama taught me…and I know how hard this writing bit is, because make no mistake it IS hard!!! But you all know how much I loved the first 2 TGR books. They both were on my top 2015 list. The end of this series makes me want to drink brain bleach. OK, maybe I’m exaggerating slightly, I gave it a 3.5* on good reads and wonder if I was being generous. I’m still pissed 3 days later, but then again, I’m still talking/thinking about it 3 days later so job well done?!?
There were some editing issues and it just seemed like an entirely different track from the first 2. I was just disappointed, because I had been looking so forward to it.
Ok…done rambling now…
Bev, I can’t say to delete TGR. Did you read Thoughtless? I think the two h are similar in their conflict/ feelings. If you could handle that, I think you could handle TGR. Also, I think, even though it’s hard to read and oh so frustrating, how these h reacted is honest and “real” to what someone experiencing these situations must go thru. Besides if they didn’t have these issues we wouldn’t have 3 books; it would have been resolved in 1. π
Grey, I completely agree with the editing issues of TGR Undone and I hate that! Mirella annoyed me, but like I said I was satisfied with the ending.
YES Maryse…it is BOTH of those!!! π But the installed organizers in the closets and laundry room and storage rooms…I literally squealed and jumped up and down when I saw them. *snort* My realtor was laughing at me the whole time. I KNOW you can appreciate the awesomeness of those organizers. π
Grey, I totally agree with you on TGRU!! At 60% in, I dropped my Kindle and walked away for a bit. I had to. I almost didn’t finish it because I knew my heart was going to break, but I did. Only I wasn’t sad. I was PISSED!! LIVID!!! I walked downstairs and the look on my face had even my husband cowering. Lol. I wind up creating the spoiler discussion on here, just so I could vent. I couldn’t hold it in. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a strong reaction to a book in my life!! I still think Ms. Carmen is an exceptional author even if I don’t agree with the ending. The book took a totally different direction and I can’t help but feel that it was a set up for the inevitable final choice.
So many comments about TGR. I haven’t read the series yet but definitely on my tbr. On a lighter note not the the book was light by any means, The Deep by Skye Warren was awesome!!! From the cover, hot hot hot HELLO Phillip!!!! I love Skye Warren’s writing & have read many of her books. Not that its a spoiler or anything but I love it when you get to the part in the book where you think “oh no he didn’t” several times & we still want him that’s for myself, another book boyfriend!! Anyone else read thia book yet? I started it last night read late late late & finished this morning.
The Jack and Jill series! I read all 3 this week. Never have I been so happy to have the stomach flu. It gave me 2 days off work to be able to lay in bed and read. (I may be silver lining the situation a bit. :). I remember you recommending these but the book blurb turned me off. I’m slightly burned out from the love triangle theme and the rest sounded convoluted, but when I came across it again I hit the “read sample” button and didn’t come out for 48 (flu filled) hours. Read these, Maryse! You won’t be disappointed!
Sincerely, A Maryse Book Blog fan for years who promises to start commenting more. π
Yes, Jennycrig! Definitely comment more so we can get to know you! As much as getting sick sucks, it’s also a great excuse to lay in bed and read nonstop. π
I know you were talking to Maryse but I couldn’t resist popping in and welcoming you!
Hello Jennycrig!! (Think all of us lurked for a while before commenting). Looking forward to getting to know you more.
