Another exciting release day is upon us! And while I’m “taste-testing” a few reads right now so I can devour one after my great start to a reading year, there are a few here that are calling my name…
Like: He Will Be My Ruin by K.A. Tucker (I already love this author’s twisty-story telling, but this one is a psych-thriller that has me so intrigued! Her best friend kills herself, and she finds out there was a certain secret man in her life…), Every Ugly Word (Amy, my angst-loving book twin is freaking out over this one, and while it’s not a new release, I wanna read it NOW!!), Midnight Revenge (First, it’s Elle Kennedy so YES PLEASE!! And 2nd… he’s a mercenary that has two people to protect, one being his pregnant one-night stand… Tee hee!!!) and Blind Reality (I can’t help but love the sound of an “arranged marriage” between strangers and the intricacy of such a relationship, but that this one is for a reality show… and better yet, one of ’em is a famous actor? FUN FUN FUN!!!) :D!!!!
But those aren’t the only standouts for me, and I made sure to highlight a bunch below to help you pick and choose. We have a historical fantasy M/M enemies to lovers trilogy conclusion that was HIGHLY anticipated (Kings Rising) and an MMA Fighter (Fighting Solitude) from popular Aly Martinez (I love her!) and a new one from Nicole Williams (The Fable of Us bad boy and rich girl love story) and the latest “Christina Lauren” comedy-steam fest” (Wicked Sexy Liar) and one were she ends up stuck in a cabin with the one that broke her heart once upon a time (Ember’s Fire)…. Oh!! And a just released prisoner looking to get back together with his preacher’s daughter ex girlfriend (Against the Wall), and of course the HIGHLY ANTICIPATED latest J.D. Robb book (Brotherhood in Death). Yep. This could be a VERY fulfilling reading week. 😀
Which to chooooooose…. which…. to….. chooooooose?
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! )

This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

- Low by Mary Elizabeth <— STILL SUPER-BARGAIN PRICED (one extra day?) & I LOVED IT ALERT!!! I went crazy for this one over the weekend, and now you can too! Here’s my Book Review. 😀
- The Farm by by Amy Cross <— HORROR ALERT! Amy found us this one, and I TOTALLY one-clicked it! “OH! Maryse, still looking for something scary? Take a peek at The Farm by Amy Cross…it’s .99 for the next few days and the blurb gave me the chills. Seriously, look! *points to arm* I’ve got goosebumps!!”
- Drowning Instinct (Fiction – Young Adult) by Ilsa J. Bick <— TEACHER STUDENT THRILLER ALERT! This one has come back into rotation ’cause it’s just awesome and thrilling and now a few in our crew are reading it. Amy and I loved it like crazy way back when. 😉 Amy: “Drowning Instinct…holy moly, I am so not kidding when I say that it is different from all of the other teacher-student books. I started it at one point and then stopped (I was probably in a mood), but when Maryse reviewed it I had to go back and BAM! It kicked my mind’s a$$. And my heart’s a$$. And my a$$. In other words, it was perfect.
“
All That Glitters Duet: Diamonds & Gold by K.A. Linde <— GOLD-DIGGER ALERT! Tessa highly recommends this brand new bargain priced two-book bundle (’cause #3 is coming out soon!) She says: “Read All That Glitters Set people. It’s just good.”
- Every Ugly Word by Aimee L. Salter <— UBER-ANGST ALERT! Amy is losing her mind over this one!! And I LOVE when that happens. She says: “EUW is so freaking…scratch that, F&$#ING intense with what she is dealing with that the whole 17-year-old thing doesn’t even matter. I’m a basket case right now, and you KNOW how much it takes for a book to do that to me. But I’m loving it!!” and she also tells us: “It has me feeling all kinds of intense feels, much like Therapy did. She has an “older self” that she sees in the mirror who tries to guide her without telling her exactly what will happen (and her older self appears to be quite a mess), and it has before and after alternating segments…before, when she was bullied mercilessly and her best/only friend (who she secretly loves) refuses to see the extent of it because he is friends with them, and then after, where something horrible has happened. Let me tell you, I need those “after” segments to break up the anxiety-inducing “before” segments…“
- Blank Slate by Tiffany Snow <— Theresa found out this one is bargain priced right now! “In the snow-covered switchbacks of the Colorado mountains in a worsening snowstorm, a car crash robs Clarissa of her memory and lands her as Erik’s prisoner…”
- Wife Number Seven (The Compound Series Book 1) by Melissa Brown <— Nancy found us this one that is super-bargain priced! “WIFE NUMBER SEVEN by Melissa Brown is now on sale…” Oh and I love this kind of story!! There’s SO much more to her… “so much more than the oppressive wedding band that adorns my finger–the same band that each of my sister wives wear. So much more. To protest would be sinful. I must keep sweet, that is my duty.“
- Dry: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs <— SUPER-SALE on this one today! I flipped over this author years ago with his other book “Running with Scissors: A Memoir” (<–it’s the one I walked through all of Busch Gardens with, reading and not actually seeing the theme park. LOL!!!) Nobody could have tons me away, so I am intrigued with this one!!
- Ryker: A Cold Fury Hockey Novel (Carolina Cold Fury Hockey) by Saywer Bennett <— HOCKEY PLAYER ALERT and it’s super-bargain priced! “…since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start…“
PARANORMAL/FANTASY/SCI-FI/DYSTOPIAN
Kings Rising: Book Three of the Captive Prince Trilogy by C. S. Pacat <— MANY WERE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING THIS ONE!! Katie (and many here in our book crew) are VERY excited for this one! Katie says: “I’ve been waiting a year for this book and am so excited! The series is about a prince who is betrayed by his brother and sold as a slave to the prince of the neighboring kingdom. Fantasy, really well-written and amazing details. I heard about it from another commenter on your “M/M Recommendations” post. You have to check it out!” P.S. group discussion happening here —> C. S. Get Maryse’s Book Blog updates delivered by email (you’ll get one daily email that will have each post from that day consolidated on it).
Marsye, Blank Slate by Tiffany Snow is . 99 today sounds interesting.
Thank you Theresa!! I’ll add it now. 😀
Grave Visions by Kalayna Price came out today. I’ll probably get it today or tomorrow.
FYI, And After is just a mean book. It made me cry!
Oh I gotta add it too! Thank you Tessa! 😀
Who has read the Elle Kennedy series above? Can it be read as stand alone?
I haven’t read that one Theresa.
Maryse, a couple of coming up releases I’m holding my breath for are
Finley by Ella Frank (due out in March) This is about another character in the Try series. Gah! I can’t wait.
and
Strong Signal (Cyberlove #1)
by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell. Due out Feb 15.
I have loved every book by Santino Hassell I have read. I hope the collaboration will end up like Elle Kennedy’s collab last year and be a great book.
Karina Halle has a release 2/15 but on preordered in itunes only now
The Lie – Brigg’s story
Got to finish up some I got backed up on, then I am jumping on Aly , #2 first was waiting to read together.
Thank you for including Always Room for Cupcakes in your post! 🙂
It is our week…angst, emotion, suspense, psych-thrills…OUR WEEK!!!!
*skips around while tossing flower petals*
I have to finish up Every Ugly Word, but if it continues to be as good as it has been so far then I’m going to say it’s a REC!! But I’m not saying it yet sooooo fingers crossed. 😉
Real by Katy Evan’s is $1.99 today. Remington Tate well forever be my number 1 book boyfriend!
So many books, so little time…..my TBR list right now is taunting me!
So what to read next…..these are my choices, Beautiful Burn, The Baller, Low, or Fighting Solitude……can’t decide! Anyone?
I’m still in a post Therapy depression… I need someone to spoon feed me…
I’ve not read a single one, but Fighting Solitude!
Okay, this is the sad truth. The last two deaths all I can think is, bummer. That’s it. I think some deaths are becoming a little less sad after the main death I’ve read so far.
Jean – Beautiful Burn was pretty good – very different than the others. So that one is a rec. if you have read the others in Fighting Solitude that would be my other. Aly is my next read then maybe Low.
Hope that helps
Jean, Remi, be still my heart. I’ve only read The Baller of those you listed. I liked it. Maryse has reviews up for The Baller as well as Low. That might help you decide.
I read The Baller, it was good…
I forgot I had one clicked Wicked Sexy Liar a while back, so it was a nice gift to me this morning… I have no idea what to read now though.
Tiffany Snow has Power Play on sale for $1.99 book one in her new series with #3 coming out this month
Thanks for the input girls. I just refreshed my memory on Fighting Silence and Fighting Shadows and was reminded of the heartbreaking ending……so Fighting Solitude it is! Gotta see what happens with Quarry!
What’s everyone else reading right now?
Jean – I’m reading Kings Rising (Book 3 Captive Prince). And I am only at 3% and I am already shouting out “OH MY GAH”….. Bev – I love this series. Thanks for the rec and for the BR.
AMY! WTF? Those two weren’t supposed to die! I mean, a lot just died but DARNIT! Two of those are gut wrenchers.
*goes in her blankie fort with Manny*
Stupid book. Jean I’m reading And After by Sarah Lyons Fleming. A great 5 star book that needs to be kicked a lot. It’s stupid and mean.
Oh! I’m glad I scrounging for Bullet. My heart needs a rock star right now. Stupid book.
Finished Chasing Spring. I really liked it even though I felt overwhelmingly sad and somewhat anxious thru most of it. No sexy times to speak of. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. Such a build-up and then *poof* the end. An epilogue would have been nice.
Now I need something lighthearted. Maybe Wicked Sexy Liar or Always Room For Cupcakes.
Tessa, I’m assuming you finished it…see why I’m STILL hurting a year later??? And After killed me. I can’t believe I’m actually getting tears right now and a lump in my throat. *sniffle* Jean and Michelle read it as well so they feel our pain. 😉
WHEN (not if) you get to the third book, it’s a very rough road but will be worth it in the end. Promise. 😀
Omg Tessa! I didn’t realize what you were reading! Yeah, Amy coerced me into reading that too! *here’s an extra blankie* But, I did love it and will never forget the entire series! So Long Lollipops was great in itself!
Jean, I’m reading Every Ugly Word right now. And it’s working me over in a way that hasn’t happened in a while.
Hey, did you see that Tessa called AA stupid right after calling it a 5-star book? *snicker* She needs some snuggles right now.
Coerced you? WTH??
I did no such thing. 😛
MichelleS, don’t forget to comment on the BR chat of King’s Rising on the Reading Order post that Maryse linked above (right under the PNR heading).
I already need someone to hold my hand. You guys read such emotional stories. By comparison, the ones I read are dinner recipes.
Believe me Amy, I thank you for the coercing!
Fabi….”dinner recipes”…..blahaha! That’s too funny!
No, no, no. No new books for me. I am thoroughly past any boring parts and am just being destroyed by The Man I Love. This one is going to hurt when it’s all over.
YAY SHARON!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and each book just gets better and better!!!!
I love you guys’s coercion.
Book peer pressure is the best!!! 😛
Amy’s a book bully, she made me read Therapy… I went thru a gigunda box of puffs plus and ate my weight in Godiva last night. At one point I wiped my nose with a candy bar wrapper…SMDH, I have no shame. It’s all Amy’s fault. Book bully, I tell you. So *whistles while trying not to appear too interested* what is this life altering book that will probably make me go to work looking like a washed out hooker, complete with mascara trails? And does anyone have it to share LOL?
One clicked Always Room for Cupcakes….read the sample and it hooked me. *sighing*. Something about a mysterious gorgeous biker whose first words to the h involve….darlin and sweeta$$! Hearing it with a southern twang to boot (in my head)! He is sounding like a alpha to me….woohoo! So need a fun read after THE series!
Starting Captive Prince #3 tonight! I cant believe its finally here! I am freaking out!!!
Grey. the stupid book? It’s the second of a trilogy called And After. The first is it is Until the End of the World. The second is And After. *sniffles* Which is a VERY stupid book, mind you. Then, the one I have to get is All the Stars in the Sky. *sniffles again* Stupid book. Stupid phrases.
*takes the blankie* Thank you Jean!
Is the last one going to end how I think? Because, if so, really? Geesh.
Oh, and Grey. The first book is free 🙂
OMG…OMG…turnabout is fair play. Hear that, Tessa and Grey? The so-called book bully is getting her due. I’m about to curl up in the fetal position in the blankie fort. Where the F%&$ is Manny?!?
Y’all suck, by the way…*I’m* not the bully, the bullies are in my book, and my book is working me over.
*side-eyes Fabi* No gloating, m’kay? Just don’t. Just give me snuggles.
Tessa…if you don’t trust me (imagine that *snort*) then at least trust Jean and Michelle that you need to read the third book.
*mumbles and kicks at the floor* Don’t know why y’all don’t trust me.
Aww… Amy… *tucks blankie around your legs and snuggles in next to you with 3 bottles of wine and 2 boxes of chocolate, calling Tessa with a not so subtle stage whisper*
Why only 2 you ask? Well after last night, I thought if I want my pants to fit, I need to cut back a bit *shrug* We Love You Amy, You Awesome Book bully!
So I actually started Love the Way You Lie by Skye Warren. But then I’m totally gonna follow you all down the path to my destruction, after all, you said free…
:-0 I would never gloat.
*walks over to Amy and Grey with tray of strawberry vodka jello shots*
“If you drunk enough vodka, it tastes like love”
*drink
I may have sampled the tray before walking over. :-/
“If you drunk enough vodka, it tastes like love”—> OMG I love that Fabi. I am not jumping on the WTF am I reading bandwagon but I’ll take a shot.
Amy, you’re a lovable book bully. *WE* just need someone to convince us to read the “WTF” books and you’re our girl!! 😉
Now for a lighthearted read…
Sharon, we told you to hang in there. No skimming, all that extra fluff becomes important.
If any one is interested you can grab Every Ugly Word for free if you have Kindle Unlimited (One of Amy’s recommends!)….
Also, All That Glitters :Diamond and Gold books are out as a Duet and on sale for $.99 for a limited time…these were the ones Tessa mentioned the other day.
Stocking up the library for those rainy book days in between releases when I really don’t want to clean, sleep or help with homework days! 2016 has been overflowing with great new releases….stocking up like a chipmunk!
*snuggles into Grey*
*takes jello shot from Fabi*
Love you guys. 😉
“If you drunk enough…” <—– *snort*
*hands over a now clean Manny to Amy and snuggles* That book’s premise scares me. See, Manny is all clean from earlier! Also, no worries, after that book, I have to read three. It’s more of a getting a card thing, not a don’t want it thing. Besides, I said I needed a heartbreak book, and just asked which one. Nope, never said bullied into it. *snuggles deeper* Where are those “love” flavored jello shot?
DG, I will say, the heroine sounds spoiled and childish, but that’s why I liked it. She’s someone I’d normally HATE reading about, but she became sympathetic without being whiny.
erm, She became someone I could emphathize with, not someone who suddenly had sympathy for people.
Y’all know how some ladies have a crafts weekend like a scrapboarding weekend. Just the girls in comfy clothes and giggles? I’ve never been to one cause I’m not an artsy person (not for lack of trying). But wouldn’t it be awesome if we had a weekend girl retreat where we all drank, ate goodies and BR in flannel PJs? Hahaha, I’m still obsessing over the comfy picture Amy painted the other day.
Cheryl…soooooo, are you sayin’ you’ll give Therapy or EUW a shot? 😛
And DG…I’m thiiiiiis close *pinches thumb and forefinger* to calling EUW a rec. I have to finish it before I can give it a final seal of approval. You do realize that you’re spreading the insanity by telling them that, right? 😉
*scrapbooking
Ugh…maybe I should stick to reading tonight
Just want to say that I am LOVING this fun little read – Always Room for Cupcakes! An h who takes pics of some kinky situations, a great bestie who owns a bakery (love some cupcakes!!!!), potential dangerous situation which the biker alpha hottie may or may not end up rescuing the h! Oh, did I mention the alpha biker hottie likes some kink too?!?! *whew, swipes forehead* Yep, I’m All In!
Love flavored jello shots…LOL!!!! Yeah, you needed a heartbreak book and you got one, didn’t ya? *snuggles into Tessa*
Fabi! I would be in heaven if we did that!! 😀
Pictures of the kinky hot alpha male? Sign me up please DG. 😉
Now I want cupcakes, DG! Strawberry cupcake with milk chocolate frosting…
Jean- I saw your post and wanted to tell you Real and Mine are all time favorites! I read Baller and really liked it, I saw on this list Aurora Rose Reynolds had a book out today but I couldn’t find it in the Kindle store so I am reading the new Roxie Rivera. It’s ok. But! I just wanted to pop a quick note to Maryse and say thank you for posting these lists and blurbs. I check your site almost every day but always first thing Tuesday mornings and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the list! This little group has become my sole source for what to read next and I love all the cray comments. I will probably re read Real now because Jean reminded me how much I loved it. Carry on ladies and Thank You!!
Megan…join in on the crazy comments! 😀
Oh,oh *jumping up and down with hand in the air*. Remy! Remy! Yes…Please! One of my fav hot, misunderstood alpha book boyfriends!
So, it’s settled. Now I am reading Real. Do you guys have a book you read over and over and still feel the feels? That may be a good post for the group- Books We Love Long Time.
Megan – the new Aurora Rose Reynolds book is on Amazon but only in one format!!! paperback!!! Even though I love to feel the paper pages – I am too impatient- I always want to read it now.
Omg Megan, yes, yes, read Real. God, Remy still makes my heart ache.
Yeah. There’s a common theme with all of those books too. The H or the one I’m rooting for are all a**h****. *sighs* Not one exception to that rule.
I have been known to read the Real series more than once…..did I mention Remy?!?
For realz (ha!) it doesn’t get much better than Remy.
Oh I can’t read gut wrenching books more than once. I can barely manage once and I remember the pain forever.
Oh and KA….re read several of her books.
Amy – I’m talking fluffy buttercream icing piled high on my cupcake kinda cupcake! Or a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing. *patting belly* yummy!
Fabi – hunting down the pictures…… ;o)
*face palm* I’ve read Motorcycle Man like six times. I share a trait with Fabi because I can only read the tearjerkers once. The Will- loved it but cried like a loon at the end.
Amy you are my barometer for unmanageable angst. If EUW is kicking your a&*$ I am steering well clear.
I need unicorns and rainbows and sunflowers (with a little bit of smexy smut on the side).
I just cant find the courage to read those books that make my throat close and hands tremble just thinking about them.
God I’m coming out in hives just imagining it.
I only managed Indebted and Captive in the Dark cos I was clueless going in.
sticking with Christina Lauren and Lauren Gilley for a bit….they’re kind to my poor cowardly heart 😉
Lisa, look at the Rachel Robinson series. Military, suspense, angst, hea
Where is Bev? I want to know if you’re reading Forget/ Blur yet?
Lisa !!!!
“I need unicorns and rainbows and sunflowers (with a little bit of smexy smut on the side).
I just cant find the courage to read those books that make my throat close and hands tremble just thinking about them.
God I’m coming out in hives just imagining it.”
Hello book twin. 🙂
Pleased I’m not the only one Fabi 🙂
There are some books I just can’t go there with….I refuse, refuse to watch or read sob stories or horror. Such a ugly cryer, I am*knodding head*
I want the soulmate, alpha male HEA’s….but I can handle angsty as long as years are not lost…
Just want to rave about that fun little read I finished this morning – Always Room for Cupcakes! Loved it! Just what I needed….definitely some OMG moments…some first references (the possible need for a shoe horn! *giggle*)…and one kinky hot alpha biker (who reminds me of Tack for some reason which makes it all good!). Loved that she made me laugh, crave cupcakes, no angst and crave even MORE cupcakes!!!!
DG, that’s one of mine too. I really don’t like it when years are lost.
Adding Always Room for Cupcakes to my never ending reading list. 🙂
*sending Amy a box of strawberry cupcakes with milk chocolate icing* Enjoy!
*placing a mixed assortment of cupcakes on the table with fresh brewed gourmet coffee for my new book besties* Eat up ladies – these are no calories!
Fabi – I don’t think you can go wrong with this one! Loved her qwerkiness! I mean have you read a book yet with a shoe horn reference?!?!
Ha, glad I reminded everyone of the awesomeness that is Remington Tate! But remember, HE’S MINE!!!!!
So, I saw that the trailer for Me Before You comes out today and I still haven’t gotten up the guts to read the book! I definitely need to read it before the movie is released! Now, I have to avoid the trailer because I really have no idea what it’s about, but I know it hurts!
On a sidenote, has anyone seen the new Selena Gomez video?!?! Omg, Christopher Mason!! Pure perfection! You guys have to look him up!
Definitely Jean. Remy is the the perfect ultimate broken hero for you isn’t he?
Just looked up Christopher Mason. Holy hotness!
Two I’ve been watching also are Tom Ellis on the new Lucifer show.

and
Ricky Whittle from The 100
I have seen that video and he does look yummy! On the note of that video, though. Is it me or is the female breathy voice coming back? I’ve heard a LOT of that recently and I gotta admit, I don’t like it at all. That song works because she uses a normal voice too, but I’m so hoping that thing isn’t back. *shudders*
So, this Bullet book. I think I have a definite dislike with books: back and forth present and past. It ruins a lot of the angst for me. This one started like that and I sincerely hope it doesn’t continue. I even hate that prologue where they show how angsty it will be later. It’s gotten to the point where I’ll skip that totally. I want the full adventure angst twist, not ‘This happened. Now for why it is angsty’, *steps off soap box*
Yes fabi! You know me so well!
Ladies I just finished Fighting Solitude by Aly Martinez…put it at the top of your TBR lists…it was AMAZING!!! 5 star read for me!
Theresa! I’m at 50%! Loving, loving, loving it!!!! Love Quarry! Love Liv! Aly Martinez is an automatic go-to author for me! Yes, I agree everyone should add it to their list!! And if you haven’t read the first 2 books in the series, get on it NOW!!!! They must be read in order!
So my tablet is happy trying to charge after a night of forgetting to plug it in. I decided to read On Dublin Street and OMG, I see why people love it! I don’t know what angsty might come along, but the wroting and the humor and the characters and the emotions…. Lots of great ‘and the’s. To all the people who made it their favorite ever (Andrea, Bethany, Dana)… Thank you!
Okay. Quick squeeling moment. Chris Hemsworth’s released picture from Ghostbuster. That body with glasses…. *swoon*
Well, Amy I did purchase Therapy (ok it was free). Remind me again, what is EUW. Too lazy to scroll up and figure it out!
Just got an email that a kindle update is coming. I think after all my bitchin saturday when they screwed up my kindle they have made some changes especially for me.*well that’s what I’m going with anyway*–>
“Personalized Home Screen:Your new Home screen brings forward your most recent reads, samples you’ve downloaded, items on your Amazon Wish List, relevant book recommendations, and more.” Yeh, now my wish list is there so I can keep up with what I want to read next. *throws out spreadsheet*
Jean, thanks for that comment about the Me Before You trailer. 🙁
Ugh, crying just watching it; don’t know that I could handle the movie. The book was hard enough, but at least I could take breaks from reading when it got to be too much.
DG, pass me a couple of those buttercream frosting cupcakes!
Well, now I’m crying and screwing up my freshly applied makeup. That’s what I get for watching the trailer right before I need to leave.
Dammit.
Gah, that book was SO beautiful!!!!
The bumblebee tights!!
*sniffle*
They’re even brought back in After You. Anyone else read it? I felt like it could have been shortened to a novella but hey, it was still really good. Even with the bittersweet twist that clenched my heart. 😉
I’m glad I watched it after I had my picture taken for my passport renewal. Would hate that pic to follow me for ten years!! Although a close-up 2 x 2 pic at my age is not pretty no matter how you do it. I probably drove the lady crazy with my scream, ok, somewhat quiet shriek when she showed me the first pic. It’s amazing what delusions you have about how you look vs. how you really look in a picture. Then I debated smile vs. not smile, which one shows less wrinkles at the eyes vs. scary mug shot. She’s probably at a bar drinking now.
Amy, what do you mean “They’re even brought back in After You.” I still haven’t read that one and now you say bittersweet twist. GAH!!!
Cheryl, I meant that the bumblebee tights make an appearance in After You. 😉 I just think they were the cutest thing and so fitting for her character. And by bittersweet twist, I don’t mean *my* kind of twist where it’s a gut punch or anything…it’s a neat little twist, but it’s still bittersweet.
Is Emilia Clarke perfect for that role or what?!? She’s so goofy!
Whew! Finished Every Ugly Word (that’s what EUW meant btw, Cheryl) and my lord but that was crazy. Just to clarify, there was no ugly crying involved, no death, no love triangles (more like just unrequited love), and it had a slight supernatural twist to it because she can communicate with her older self in the mirror.
So, final verdict? YES! Read it! Just know going into it that it’s intense and heavy on the whole bullying thing, which is what was making me freak out through most of it. Not knowing what was coming next from those stupid meanies is what caused all the apprehension and anxiety for me. And her mother is AWFUL. Now, if that sort of thing (bullying in books) doesn’t affect you that way when you read it, then you probably won’t lose your sh!t the way I did. 😛
Tessa I loved the Dublin St series. Great books.
Yes there is ALWAYS room for cupcakes DG…pass that plate over here!
(And always room for a Hemsworth too).
I think Hemsworth is now synonymous with hot.
Just sayin’. 😉
You guys!!!!
I’m reading a paper book.
*gasp* 😛
Amy I love unrequited love!! Well I mean… in BOOKS. Only in books.
That Me Before You trailer made me cry. I MEAN CRY. Big sloppy tears falling on my feet! (I was sitting cross-legged)…
Am I the only one on the planet that hasn’t read Me Before You?
*passing the cupcake plate to Cheryl and Lisa*. Since I’m passing the cupcakes, please pass me the Hemsworth! *wink*. Those brothers are like a triple threat!
*raising hand* Grey – I haven’t read it either….might need to read the blurb again….
OH, thanks Amy. Yes, she is perfect for the role and *sigh* the bumblebee tights.
Now need some alcohol and cupcakes to get past the “feels” from thinking about Me Before You. Poor Sam Claflin has played some heartbreaking characters with quite the finale.
Maryse! EUW has unrequited love and WORSE is that she has to see him dating one of the girls who hates her and makes her life miserable…and he just won’t see it or believe it. UGH!!
*snags cupcake from DG’s tray* Because I just watched the MBY trailer. Again. And cried. Again. READ IT LADIES!!!
I fell for Sam Claflin in Pirates of the Caribbean where he was a missionary and there was the whole side story (which almost overshadowed the main story for me ;)) with him and the mermaid. *swoooooooon*
*sneaks off to watch trailer again*
OH! I almost forgot…what paper book are reading, Maryse?
See, this is why I can’t BR with you anymore. *shakes head*
yes Maryse, what Paper book?
And should I watch the trailer… or read the book???
I got my grubby little paws on book 3 Falling Away Tessa!!! I’m so excited! *happy wiggle* I will have finished the Jared and Tate saga. I know this one is about Jax and KC… but still…
Read the book Grey.
The trailer will be SO MUCH MORE meaningful to you. PLEASE.
READ. THE. BOOK. NOW. 😀
*someone hand Grey Manny again…* 😉
Okay… you guys are gonna be mad.
LOL!
It’s the upcoming one by Taylor Jenkins Reid (One True Loves)… and it’s only coming out in June so I am WAY early with reading this, but I can’t help it. I CAN’T. THIS is what I’m in the mood for.
:D!!!!
Amy!! I read one like that…
which one was it?
Where the girl is his best friend (crushes on him, too) but his girlfriend does TERRIBLE stuff to her (like in the locker room and stuff – with her mean girl friends) and even comes to his house for a family get-together (Thanksgiving?) and totally destroys her in private, but he won’t believe her.
It gets bad too. She’s a total popular girl bully.
BUT BUT BUT!!!
OMG THE TWIST about his evil girlfriend was AWE.SOME.
Like the best kind of twist that made the book SO meaningful.
WHAT BOOK WAS IT???
You guys??! Remember that ending… in the hospital? GAH!!! That was is re-read good.
Is it… OH!!! I KNOW!!!!!
I think it’s The Mason List.
YOU GUYS. READ THAT BOOK!
For reals??? I may need to just permanently attach a kleenex to my face. Walk around with Manny attached to me if I read anymore sad books. Get my PhD in psychology…do my thesis in grief counseling… guyssss *whine* *pout, pout, pout* *bangs on the microphone* Is this thing on???
Bueller??? Is anyone listening to me?
No? Hmph….
Fine. I’m reading Falling Away first, because, well… it’s a sickness at this point, and a loan, so I have to. LOL! Then, if I’m strong… maybe, I’ll read Me Before You. But I’m not sure me… or my tear ducts, or my Kleenex (read wine budget) can take it…
Tessa, I missed your And After reactions…I can’t even think about it really or I will tear up. Love love On Dublin Street, one of my favorites!
Jean, whoa that Mason dude is hot! His little girl is adorable too.
Ok adding Every Ugly Word to my wishlist.
Grey, it sounds like we need to buy Kleenex in bulk! *turns head to direct guy with forklift moving mass Kleenex bundle*
*in a whining voice* Guys I don’t know if I can handle sad….I avoid sad….sad makes me sad….and thinking of what Amy has said about EUW makes me sad and scared….*pulling out the blankie*
Amy – if you have finished EUW, please tell me it has a HEA…..pretty please….I’ll throw in some ice cream to go with the cupcakes……
Grey, what sad one did you read?
Michelle, I read Therapy by Kathryn Perez, It gutted me, it was amazing. 5 stars. Even though I was crying and wiping my face with candy bar wrappers…
DG the Hemsworth tripple treat. I love that! They are eye candy.
Amy, have you read Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers? It’s an oldie PNR with a feisty heroine. It sounds like the type you read so I thought I’d ask.
Maryse, June? June?! Really? Ugh. lol Enjoy! I am totally the same when I’m in the mood for a particular book, nothing else will do.
That’s what Mason’s list is about? *moves it up on the TBR* I’m loving and adoring On Dublin Street. Probably best book so far this year and I just finished And After. .
Michelle. And After was intense, though some of the deaths I was like, and yep. Dead. Dummy. Then there were three that just hurt. Also, can we kill Oliver? Seriously, can we?
Grey, Falling Away will make Aflame make sense. I really liked that one, though I was feeling gut twisty with the Jared and Tate stuff. Also, you aren’t the only one not to read Me Before You. That’s on the sometime when I need emotion list of mine. I can do crazy tears two or three times a year, that’s it. I just read And After. I’m good to not read any for a while.
Oh Therapy I have that one and I think I got a novella free a while back too? I might seriously try it this weekend…after I buy a big box of tissues I guess 😉
Tessa, I know some of the deaths I was just eh about…but yes…(counting) three hit home for me. Read the last book when you get in the mood again, worth it.
Maryse I love a good old school paperback read….kindle’s just don’t smell the same *winks*.
Mmmmm Christopher Mason. I’m casting him as one of my Dartmoor Lean Dog bikers for sure! (Jason Momoa was my big Cajun beast Mercy).
The Calpin guy….not so much. A bit to ‘college boy dimples’ for me. And possibly young enough to be my son ….which is not creepy at all. Is it?
Ooh, I forgot that happened in The Mason List! Didn’t they do something to her clothes to make them smell awful or something like that? Among other things. 😕
Oh, and Maryse? Yeah, I think I have “book burn” on my nose from where you rubbed your shiny new TJR book in my face. So thank you for that. *pblllllttttttt!!!!*
Grey…definitely read the book before watching the trailer. Don’t cheat either! It will have a much greater impact if you read the book first. 😉
Tessa! You would love The Mason List! But it is emotional, so just a head’s up there. 😉
DG and Grey…Me Before You is NOT one of those that will have you crying from beginning to end. It’s beautiful with great dry humor and cringe-worthy moments (I love Louisa *snort*) and it’s touching and OMG soooooo worth any tears there might be. And after you have read it *then* go and watch the trailer.
Oh, and DG…sorry my cupcake-lovin’ friend, giving away endings and spoilers are a no-no around here. 😉 Check out some reviews on Goodreads though to see if there is anything there. Or if you want to friend me on GR then I can tell you that way. 🙂
Yes. I may *slightly spoiler-ish a book or at least let someone know about an HEA in PRIVATE. By all means… 😉 If you need it, I’ll let ya know at least the HEA part
But never here. LOL!!!!
Grey…
I’m imagining you with chocolate residue streaks all over your face. Along with the tear-tracks. 😛
*rubs ointment on Amy’s nose*
Amy… I know you have an awesome concealer for that. 😉
Oooooh Maryse, I do! Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless concealer. It’s AMAZING. Not cakey at all but gives great coverage.
And lookie here… *holds out iPad with both hands and wiggles it* I’m reading a TJR book too so nanny-nanny-boo-boo!!! By the way, it’s Maybe in Another Life. 😉
Fabi, I just checked and I have the first book, My Fair Assassin! 😀
Oh Michelle, Therapy will put you through just about every emotion (anger, feeling in love, heartache, all of it) but it’s GREAT! I love re-living books through y’all.
No worries Amy and Maryse!!! Somethings are better left unsaid. Just going to add that one to coming of age category.
Lol Amy, would you believe I meant to ask Tessa that question? But you read some of those too. :-). I’m not gonna recommend it yet or anything because I’m still listening to it. I was just wondering if Tessa had read it and asked you instead of her.
I just finished Kings Rising *sigh* so good. It’s always a little sad to finish a great book.
My next big expected release is Morning Star on the 9th. But I have a long beta read to get to which should tie me over till then. Sorry tbr, you’ll have to keep waiting. :-/
Hi Maryse
I’m not on Facebook but have read your book blogs etc for a few years now and I need your help! I’m looking for a book only have blurb, what I can remember, girl from USA travels to Ireland, don’t know why, gets picked up at airport by guy, but she refuses his help and gets her own transport when she gets to where she’s staying she can’t believe he’s already there, thinks he’s a racing car driver, she’s bold and brassy? Can anyone help me please? Thanks for your help and keep up the great work! Sam
Oh that sounds familiar! Its not Revved by Samantha Towle of the Mighty Storm fame is it? Although I dont recall the airport pick up.
I know its not Colton from Driven because they met in a broom closet.
Anyone else??
Hi Lisa
I think it’s an older book maybe a couple of yrs? I’ve looked at Racing Car driver books on Goodreads, but not many on there! Just read Revved synopsis not that, driving me mad, lol!
Hi Samantha!!!
I think we’ve got it!! Come check here (and even in the comments you’ll see others agree)…
https://www.maryse.net/reader-questions/reader-question-the-book-about-the-girl-that-travels-to-ireland-and-refuses-his-help-at-the-airport.html
Hi Samantha!!
I’ve just posted it… we’ll see what we can come up with. 🙂
*hug*
Thanks Maryse
Watched the trailer again. And it’s still making me tear up with swoony tears.
It has over one million views in less than a day! 😀
First line Thursday!
“t’s a good thing I booked an aisle seat, because I’m the last one on the plane.” ~ Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Only 33% in and I am absolutely LOVING this book!!!
Omg Amy, I’m really scared to read that book (and I’m not sure why) but haven’t watched the trailer either! I will eventually read it! And someone mentioned The Mason List which I’ve had forever but still haven’t read either. When I opened my Kindle today it was re-downloaded or something and right there as my first choice……maybe it’s a sign……
Don’t be scared, Jean! I say swoony tears because not all tears are sad tears. 😉 The changes that take place in both of them are so profound and the relationship they develop so deeply moving that I can’t help but cry when I watch it. Kind of like how I *sobbed* the whole way through the epilogue of Tristan and Danika…but how could you not sob through such a touching epilogue after all they went through?!?
And don’t you dare watch it until you’ve read the book! That’s right…I’m pulling the bully card. 😛 And YES, that’s a sign about The Mason List!
Ok so I finished Fighting Solitude last night and loved it! Great series! And I’m ready to pick my next book…..
Would I be crazy to let Amy pick my next read and therefore dictate my “first line Thursday”. It’s between The Mason List and Me Before You. (See how much I trust you Amy? Unless you have a better suggestion than those two……)
Yes Jean, you would be crazy to but I love you for it!!
Sooooo…READ ME BEFORE YOU!!!!
I’ve no first line Thursday yet. I finished On Dublin Street yesterday and I’m still in a book fog. I did the whole hug the book to your chest, grin huge, and dance thing right after reading it. What took me so long to get to it?
Fabi, I haven’t but the library has it. 😀 I’ll get it when I go today.
Jean, it’s a sign. Especially because I was thinking that one is next. (No guarantee. *points to book fog comment*)
Wait. Fabi, did you read that one? I think I downloaded a sample and didn’t like her writing. It was too bogged down. Honestly it reminded me of Bertrice Small’s writing without the wit and the drive. LOTS of details, but without the banter. It only was to the nunnery, but yeah. The writing was a little too heavy on unimportant details without adding to the ambiance. I can still give it another try though. Maybe once she gets to the nunnery it picks up.
Ok I’m on it! See how much I trust and love ya?
First line: “There are 158 footsteps between the bus stop and home, but it can stretch to 180 if you aren’t in a hurry, like maybe if you’re wearing platform shoes.” Me Before You……Jojo Moyes
I’m embarrassed to say I purchased this back on August 2, 2013!!!! Yeah, I need to clean up my TBR! Thanks for helping me decide Amy!
Ooooh Jean… what a book!!!! :D!!!
Tessa, loved On Dublin Street and entire series for that matter so I get it!
Tessa, I can’t recommend it because I’m still listening to it. You’re right, I tend to space out over some of the descriptions. But overall, I like the heroine and I’m intrigued with the plot.
*squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!*
I’m reliving Will and Louisa’s story vicariously through Jean!!!
Hot damn, I’ve had way too much coffee this morning… 😕
Yeah, I gotta wait a week to get the rest. There is no way in H*** that I’m going to the branch that has it. They’ve already re-routed the area for the Superbowl. (I’m in Santa Clara)
Tessa, were you considering MBY or TML? Either way you won’t lose with those two. 😉
Thank you!!
The Mason List. Me Before You… Maybe next time I’m needing a good cry?
“Three Whole Years. I’d had a boyfriend for three whole years, and I still had more orgasms when I was by myself.” Falling Away by Penelope Douglas (Fall Away #3) *giggle*
First line Thursday:
‘The girl with no name scurried down the corridor, hiking up her skirt to avoid the hem from trailing along the dusty floor.’
Gifted Thief by Helen Harper
See. Book fog caused this. I tried Mason List but honestly, my brain kept wandering to Dublin Street. This is so different, it works. Though, can we say the first line needs to be edited? *grins impishly*
That’s a funny one Grey.
FLT
“Though Cornelius Stevens had thumbed his nose at his father’s international conflicts since he was old enough to understand what the word war meant, the night he rescued the Austrian soldier from a pile of dead bodies was the first time his disobedience had gone as far as treason.” Clockwork Heart by Heidi Cullinan
Yep Tessa…MBY was more of a *cleansing* cry for me. 😉
I showed my friend the video today and she looked at me all crazy and said, “Are you CRYING over that movie?”
So I said the only thing I could to save face…”No, you are. Shut up.” *sigh* Some people just don’t get it.
*raises hand*
I don’t get it.
Why, Jean? Why?
I’m reading a KU book since I haven’t been reading enough of them especially with all the new releases.
“The earthen smell of fall blew through the air on a seasonable warm Saturday.” Just Breathe Again by Mia Villano
*whispers* I haven’t read Me Before You either…
Michelle! Gifted Thief is a KU item too. 😀 One with Scottish Fae, so I’m happy.
Tessa thank you! I just downloaded it. I read the Blood Destiny series and liked them. I also have Forget by NA Alcorn from KU to read yet.
Bev & Jean….I get it. I loved the Dublin Street series. For me they were a bit like a KA book. I knew what I was getting….I could relate to characters and I wasn’t going to get slugged with a CH. Great stories.
First line Friday:
‘I think I found my killer.’
Price of Angels by Lauren Gilley.
Loving the Dartmoor series!!!
Amy, I HIGHLY doubt MBV is a cleansing cry. It’s probably like Bright Side where at the end, you think and start sobbing all over again. 😛
Michelle, it’s good so far, but that’s not saying much. I’m on chapter 5. 😀
If anyone wants a crazy sad book. I’m at 55% in Just Breathe Again and I’ve been tearing up or crying non-stop for a good part of this book. The writing is just ok (lots of editing issues too) but the content has been brutal to my heart. I have a stack of tissues on stand by for the rest but I hope it takes a happier turn.
Michelle please please read Forget and Blur. If you loved the feels of Thoughtless you’re going to love them. Blur in particular…..the angst ramps up a notch.
I also am yet to read ‘Me before you’. With an ip coming movie and hype on here it might be time….
What don’t you get bev? My love of the Dublin Street series? Or my total faith in Amy to pick my next book? Lol!
I love that we all have First Line Thursday and Lisa is in her own little First Line Friday club (even though it was still Thursday)! Hahaha!
So, yes, I’m loving MBY even though I haven’t gotten that far. It is totally reminding me of Rush!
Hey has anyone seen the new one by Penelope Ward? Roomhate. You have to check it out on Goodreads! Coming out February 15th. That cover! Damn! Hot, hot, hot!
And Specimen by Shay Savage! Release date February 24th!
Maybe I missed these on one of Maryse’s list, but wanted to share my excitement!
And I love roommate books!!
Oh Shay Savage you say??? Okay Im a-lookin’!!
Jean, thank you for the heads up. February releases are insane. Boom, boom, boom. One after the other.
I know Maryse! Right?!? I’m excited about both of these releases!
First Line Friday….since I was hiding in my blanket fort Thursday….
“Top Five Reasons (Out of 100) I am NEVER coming out of this blanket fort.”
Frenched by Melanie Harlow
Not sure if it truly counts as a first line BUT I am staying in my blanket fort until I see rainbows, unicorns and sparkly dandelions!
DG! Adorable!!!
She’s a blankie-fort lover too!! LOL!
Aw Tessa, come on…haven’t you ever had a good cleansing cry from a book? All those different emotions just building up and building up and then…*big exhale* just a great big release through a “cleansing” cry. 😉
OMG I think Grey won the first line award for that one, LOL!!!
“…the content has been brutal to my heart.” <—– CLICK. Thanks for that one, Michelle! 😀
Nope. One ugly cry was so bad, I was in the hopsital the next day with appendicitis! That’s not very cleansing.
Yes!!! I win!!! Wait…what do I win???
Tessa??? Are you ok? are you speaking that you were just in the hospital with appendicitis or was this in the past???
WTH Tessa?!? LOL!!!!!!
Oops, sorry Grey! I meant DG’s first line. 😕 *hands Grey conciliatory lemon ginger martini*
This was in the past. Sorry. When I was fourteen, I read the Sweet Valley High where Regina (my favorite character) died. Then I read the next book of her funeral. My stomach never stopped hurting from the excessive crying jag. The next day, it had moved to my right side, I got a fever, felt majorly sick and yep. Appendicitis. So, now I say SVH books gave me appendicitis. 😛 I still can’t believe they killed my favorite.
Dammit… I never win anything *pout* Slams back martini…
Tessa, that’s the saddest thing I think I’ve ever heard 🙁 I had my appendix out when I was 16…I can relate…useless thing 🙁
Tessa, if that is what I’m thinking of it made me cry too. Then my mom asked me what was going on. I read the death scene to her and she laughed so hard, lol.
I’m fairly certain that if I read MBY I’d feel depressed not cleansed.
Unless like Tessa I’m sick after.
😉
Bev, the cocaine one? I swear, no one who read that even considered doing drugs. lol
