It’s the first official release day of the year and we have some awesome looking ones to kick off the new year!
<— P.S. I just want to say, that one there to the left gave me a CRAZY blurb-jolt. I screamed out OMG!!!!! Once I hit the end of that blurb and I’m FREAKING out. This sounds… AWESOME! My sister was all.. WHAT?!! WHAT?!! So I read the blurb out loud… yep. Blurb-jolt. Gah! Do I even post a portion of the blurb here, or let y’all read it for yourselves and get the same jolt I did? *sigh* Let’s just say, it involves a kidnapped girl, the guy who saves her… and her kidnapper. 😉
And also…
Maryse: Which one is calling you? That one pictured is calling me. 😀 —–>
Lisa: Built, Missed Connection and An Ounce of Hope just loaded on up on my kindle. Looove pre-ordering. Think Im going with Missed Connection first. Squeeeee!
Emma Scott: I can’t wait for Missed Connection!
Maryse: That’s the one I’m jumping into!!! grin emoticon We have the same taste, Emma
K. Larsen: Have tissues handy and please, take ugly cry selfies if need be and post them to the _missed_connection_ IG page!
Cheryl: Missed Connection- hmmm, the author that wrote Jezebel. I’ll wait to see what you say Maryse!
Amy: Dangit!!! I just committed myself to my own reading challenge, and that means I can’t read Missed Connection until I finish my 2015 one-click, a 2014 one-click and a 2013 one-click…whoever came up with the idea of a reading challenge?!? *huffs* That being said, I can’t WAIT for it…maybe I’ll cheat and start my challenge anew after I read MC. Yeah, that works.
Fabi: Lol Amy. That’s the same problem I have with challenges. No self control. Mine has to be something simple like “read a book”. That. I can do.
Amy: …something simple like “read a book” <——- LOL!!!!
Maryse: OMG YESS!!! Read a book. I can do that. Fabi that’s hilarious!!!!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

Sutphin Boulevard (Five Boroughs) by Santino Hassell <— M/M ROMANCE that both Fabi AND Teri loved! “Fabi did you recommend the Five Boroughs series by Santino Hassell on a previous post? I just read them. Freaking fantastic!”
- Sunset Park (Five Boroughs) by Santino Hassell <— M/M ROMANCE and here is #2!
- The Fall (The Reluctant Romantics Book 1) by Kate Stewart <— Cheryl is enjoying this one! “Reading The Fall (it was in my tbr). If you enjoyed Room 212, you’ll like this one. It follows one of the daughters.” YES!!! I LOVED Room 212!!! Thank you Cheryl!
- RUSH (City Lights: New York City) by Emma Scott <— I 4.5 starred THIS magnificence and it’s on sale today!!! (my review) and Theresa agrees! “Emma Scott has Rush on sale if you didn’t get it yet – get the novella too. You will not be sorry”
- The Affair by Colette Freedman <— MARITAL DISCORD ALERT! Amy is enjoying this one! “Back to The Affair now…so far so good!” She suspects her husband is having an affair… “Now Kathy must decide whether to follow her suspicions at the risk of losing everything, or trust the man with whom she’s entwined her past, present, and future. As she grapples with that choice, she is confronted with surprising truths not just about her relationship, but about her friends, family, and her own motivations.“
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta <— SO MANY HERE LOVE THIS ONE! bev found us this one!! “Yes to Jellicoe Road. Awesome deal. Everyone grab it. I need to choose another book by that author to read. Maryse if still viable tomorrow you gotta put it in your deals section. And then *whispers* read it. *nods head*” and Amy agrees! “I just read Jellicoe Road on Bev’s rec and it was SO good!“
- Caged: Takedown Teague by Shay Savage <— TEAR JERKER ALERT! and Fabi is on a recommendation roll, ’cause she also HIGHLY recommends this series, and Jean tried it and LOVED it! “Fabi! You were so right about the Caged books! 2 was better than 1 and 3 is AWESOME! I loved it! Boy did I cry…..when he finally tells Tria his secret (which I kinda suspected), the tears were rolling down my face! So horrible! Love this series!”
- The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith <— DARK READ BACK ON THE LIST ’cause Fabi lost her mind (she’s still in a book fog) over this one! “I just finished The Last Hour of Gann, after 3 days of non-stop reading. Right now real life doesn’t seem real. I’m looking around and wondering what I’m supposed to be doing. Book fog doesn’t begin to describe it. 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. Thank you Michelle. I’ve been hearing about for over a year, but I didn’t take the plunge until I heard from you. Thank you, thank, thank you.” and MichelleS is reading another by this author! “Fabi – I know what you mean about “epic length” (I am at 90% with Land of the Beautiful Dead” and still have almost 2 hours of reading left according to my Kindle.) But it’s so worth it. Isn’t TLHoG amazing? So glad Maryse listed it here a while back. Lizard man and all of his spine flicking and praying and counting – I loved everything. … which did I like better? Gann or Dead? Loaded question there. It’s a tie, I think. Each for different reasons. Dead has more secondary characters to like. Gann has that cool world & traditions. Both have anti heroes. Dead had more romance. Can’t answer. Both are 5 star reads for me. What about Heat? Should I read it??”
Beaten (Broken Book 1) by Rebekah Rue <— WHAT TO READ AFTER ARSEN ALERT?!! Nancy recommends this one! “This is just a post to let Maryse and and fans of Thoughless by S.C. Stephens, and people who follow the list of What to Read after Arsen, that their is a new debut author Rebekah Rue and her book Beaten is really that good.”
- Crazy Good by Rachel Robinson <— I LOVED THIS ONE and Theresa wants to include these in her favorites lists, too!! “…totally forgot Rachel Robinson!!!! Crazy Good and Set In Stone. Time and space is due out January 18. Ladies if you are not caught up, move it! The last in Set In Stone ripped. me up, like my military and ex- military. These are Seals. Just got goose bumps thinks thinking about them.” (here’s my review of book #1)
- FU Cancer by Hilaria Alexander <— Recent release & it’s on super-sale! “…he was the love of her life, and she married him. When her Peter Pan of a husband decided to divorce her, she thought it was her chance to start anew. That was until she was diagnosed with breast cancer…“

Dirt comes out on the twelfth? Well, that gives me time. I forgot it was the week before Feverborn (because authors like their expensive books to be near the same time! GAH!)
The kidnapping one is definitely interesting. 🙂 I’m curious what you say about it.
LOL Tessa!
Yep it looks like the date changed to a week later than when i first found the pre-order. *sigh*… and yes, it’s awesome when ALL of the higher-priced ones release at the same time. *snort* 😛
#9 For the First Time, anthology. Has followup to Hollywood Dirt, Alessandra Torre. So BIG One hidden in that one.
1-clicked Jellicoe Road…. great sale!
Never Tear Us Apart sounds really good but that price! Gah! Are you reading this one next Maryse?
Amy, I love the challenge you set for yourself and that you are breaking it only one day later! Haha!
Not sure what to read next after finishing the Caged series….
Wait, wait, wait, Nancy is comparing Beaten to Arsen. I gotta check that out!
I cannot say enough good things about the Last Hour of Gann. I want to shout out to the world that everyone should read this book. I did read her latest book Land of the Beautiful Dead and did not enjoy it as much. Too much gore for me. But Amber and Meoraq are forever in my heart. It’s so much more than sci if or just romance or alien romance, it’s just all encompassing epic-ness. It stays with you. I think it’s the book that I would most love a sequel to because I could read about them forever and not get bored.
I’m not even reading this post yet, because I have no friggin will power, how’s that for special *grumble, 2 spoonfuls of b*tch in my cereal this morning*
Just wanted to join the post and say hi, LOL!
Comfort Object by Annabel Joseph and Discovering us trilogy by Harper Bentley are both free on Amazon.
Grey, you reading g about Brad or another shiny?
Never Tear Us Apart looked good until I noticed the price and that it is a “2-part tale.” Think I’ll wait on part 2.
Read the sample for Missed Connection and I was “meh.” Guess you’re not the only one with b*tch today Grey!
So many good books being released this month. Did not know there was another one in the Driven series; reminds me of The Storm.
Not sure whether to start a book today or wait for Big Rock tomorrow.
Amy, I posted this in previous post before I realized there was a new one:
After reading the sample, I’m surprised you are reading The Affair. It’s about a husband supposedly cheating on his wife. Isn’t that one of your “nope” not going to read books?!
Nancy, noticed Beaten is book #1. Does it have a cliff-hanger or is the story finished in book 1?
I love all your pertinent b*tchy questions Cheryl! Lol!
Thanks Jean!! 🙂
Ok, found out Beaten ends with a CH!!! 🙁
Awww that sucks Cheryl! Ok gotta just add that to my wish list.
I can’t resist jumping on the bitchiness bandwagon…
Are authors ever going to get the message that we really don’t want cliffhangers? I mean, I know some people read them anyways, even though more and more of us are simply bypassing them. But, even the people who read them don’t necessarily like them, and I’ve never heard anyone complain when a book actually HAS an ending.
I’ve heard one response that some people would rather pay $0.99 for a partial book instead of the $2.99 for a complete “trilogy”. That way, if they don’t like the first part, they don’t spend money on the other parts. Personally, I don’t see the big difference between the free samples provided for eBooks and the partial books being published as parts and sold for $0.99. I can always tell from a sample whether I’m interested in reading the rest of the story. Also, Amazon and other booksellers have lenient refund policies.
OK then, there’s my two cents worth of bitchiness for the day. :-/
Cheryl, I’m starting Big Rock with you tomorrow. I’ll finish To Love Jason Thorn tonight and be ready for what is sure to be another great read tomorrow.
Melissa – Yay! another fan of LHoG!!! What are the chances that Maryse would read it, you think? It is just so amazing, and telling someone the plot just makes it sound weird and the cover? What was that? So cheesy. I wish I could go back to that world too. Sigh.
*wildly waves hands* me three, me three. I was so lost when I finished LHoG
Hello 2016! Stayed up all night reading Abruption. That cover sucked me in (maybe because it’s freaking everywhere right now) and it did not disappoint. Finally, my book slump is over! On to the next …
Oh Robin, thank you! I just read your comment and went to check it out! Immediately 1-clicked!!!!!
LHoG is very high on my TBR!
Yeh, Fabi!!! I giggle every time I look at the cover of Big Rock!! *snort*
Robin, great, now I’m one-clicking Abruption. It is an interesting cover.
I went immediately to look at Abruption too but I wasn’t sure I had the right book.
Gah, no Tessa, I’m still in LoA… I thought I was almost done, I was wrong. I misread how much I still have left of the book…it is LONG. Gah, I need a break!
I want new shiny… like the one you picked for me. *kicks rocks* oooh, like Big Rock… *giggle* nice alliteration there
See 2 spoonfuls!
Missed Connection, FU Cancer, Abruption and Never Tear Us Apart…CRAP!!! I’m going to end up with hives trying to stick to my reading challenge. And shut it, Jean! You can just take your lauging a$$ and go get me a shot of Jager. 😛
Those of you reading Missed Connection (Maryse, Lisa, anyone else?)…how is it so far?
I can play guinea pig – starting Beaten and probably Never Tear Us Apart after that. Had gift card money still and it was apparently burning a hole in my pocket…
Yey another LHoG fan! I picked up the first book of the Arcadia series too so I’m stocked up on R Lee Smith for when the mood strikes! MichelleS, Heat was really good too and if I wasn’t comparing her books to each other (which I can’t help but do), it would rate higher as a standalone. Also read her blog: https://rleesmith.wordpress.com/
The post with her Dad and his impression of Dead; couldn’t stop chuckling!
Cheryl, I answered on the other post but I’ll put it here as well since I am loving what this book is doing to me…
Cheating husband in a book isn’t a “nope” for me, but I will freaking freak the freak out if the H *is* cheating and the h ends up staying with him or going back to him when all is said and done. Unfortunately, I don’t know if a book will turn out that way when I start it since I hate spoilers. What I love about this one is how I really don’t know if he is or is not cheating and I don’t know how things are going to turn out as I haven’t even *peeked* at the blurb for The Consequences. Either I’ll be squeeing and jumping right into the next one or I’ll be screeching like a p!ssed off harpy when I finish this one. 😉
Oh and Bev!! Did you read Dancing on Coals?! Amazing, easy 5*! In the author’s note she talks about the impact of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee too, which is a favorite book for me of all-time. Love love her writing, it’s just simple, clean and honest in all the best possible ways!
Lol Amy! *Here’s your Jager*…you deserve it with all that angst it sounds like you are going through! Yeah, good luck with that challenge…..it’s only Jan 5th and you’re already all squirrelly!
Amy, good luck with that!! Hope you’re squeeing, although probably not a bad idea to have more Jager on-standby!!
Grey, “nice alliteration there”——–> fancy writer word *smirk*
*takes Jager shot*
*tosses it back*
*holds it out to Jean*
More, please…
Cheryl…see above comment. 😉 Anxiety, I’m tellin’ ya. Pure anxiety.
Funny story…when I was reading it on Sunday, my hubby was sitting by me, watching TV and answering texts. So what do I do in my book-induced fit of suspicious anxiety? Squint at him and ask him who he is texting. Bless my long-suffering man…he responded by closing his eyes, sighing, showing me his phone and then asking, “what are you reading NOW that’s got you acting all weird?” *snort* He knows me all too well.
Cheryl, gah, I meant allusion not alliteration, dang it… stupid autocorrect, although, I have no idea, how my phone managed to autocorrect THAT to *that*, but whatever haha!
I’m at 75% of LoA and I’m officially dying, i don’t know if I can finish it! gah, someone hold me!
Funny Amy, I was reading the sample and my husband is working from home today and was in his office, with the door closed talking on the phone. My first thought was, who is he talking to with the door closed, he never closes the door. Nevermind, that I had just finished vacuuming before picking up the book, with the screeching airplane noise level hardwood floor vac!! :> Pass me a couple shots of that Jager!!
Amy and Cheryl, lol on you guys with your hubbies. I don’t think either of you should read TLHoG – cause, well, you know, aliens and all. hahaha
Grey! I was wracking my brain trying to come up with the alliteration you were referring to! Sheesh – give a girl a break. I was feeling pretty ignorant. ha!
Hang in there with LoA. I promise. I gets b…ummm…nope, it’s a d…it gets darker. :-O
Sorry Fabi! This is what i get when I try and respond on my phone instead of using my laptop! Wind up looking like an idjit.. LOL! But Fabi,… I dont wanna finish LoA right now… there are so many shiny books that are calling my name, Tessa challenged me to read Blindfolded Innocence and she’s read The Opportunist already that I gave her already…and I feel like a slacker!!
LOL Cheryl!! See?!? This book evokes all kinds of crazy thoughts! Our poor hubbies. *snicker*
So Fabi, we might start to think our hubbies are aliens? Hmmmm…you know, Daemon Black is an alien. And he was pretty hot and swoon-worthy. 😉
Well I am 15% in TLHoG and I hope they meet soon!! Loving it so far though!
I wish I could read Big Rock with you guys (that cover! Yummy!!) but as you can see I am deep into TLHoG and I probably won’t finish it till the weekend.
Blindfolded Innocence? Alessandra Torre? Brad DeLuca? Oh yes please!
Read the whole lot. Yummy!
Oh Big Rock is from the guys POC?!? I love those!! *Drew I am looking at you!
Can you please make a list of psychological thrillers?!!
Michelle just a bit above 30%. I made the mistake of thinking I could read a bit before getting up this morn, lol. A bit late.
And absolutely agree about her writing. Plus I really enjoy her heroines.
Amy, I wonder if your husband would act weird if he read some of your favorite cheating books. And then your post on how you understand why she did it. He’d probably be all who you texting?
Beeeeeeevvvvv!!!! I’m not saying it’s *okay* when the h cheats, I just love the inner turmoil and fallout that goes along with it. In BOOKS only. 😉
And yeah, we’ll just let hubby live in his blissful ignorance that I’m only reading bodice rippers. 😛
Grey, I didn’t mean for you to finish the entire LoA series right now. It’s 5 books. Brutal books. I only meant to say, finish #2, the one you’re on. Believe me, I took months long breaks between books until I got to the very end of the series. But, for some reason, I always went back to it.
Ummm, Amy, the aliens in TLHoG are nothing like the aliens in the Lux series.
You know, those of you who’ve read it, It’s pretty amazing that the author was able to make us fall in love with Meorak isn’t it? But, man oh man. He is perfect.
I’m on the last 15% of To Love Jason Thorn. I’m trying to save it until midnight so I can go right to Big Rock. I swear, I have never laughed so much reading a romance book as I have with TLJT. Olive is hilarious.
Amy are you doing 3 old before a new read?
See the looking up of dates, this I’m too lazy to do. The read a uf or blue cove, that I could do. Press on and look at my library. But I’ll do the three old ones with you if yiu plan to stick with it.
I’ll just three in my tbr prior to 2016. But I would have to do 3 before 1 or 2 new. Some authors like to release on same day. And half read books have to count, I have to finish these books.
“He’d probably be all who you texting?”
and
“we’ll just let hubby live in his blissful ignorance that I’m only reading bodice rippers”
My laughing is echoing around this empty office. Bev! You are just too much. And Amy! Always with the funny stories. Luffs you guys.
I have no idea what is wrong with my typing today.
Anne, just fyi, Caged is entirely in the guys’ POV. It’s not a light read, but oh, so good.
OK, last post before I head home.
Amy, you’ll have to keep us updated on The Affair. You have me all kinds of curious. (I’m assuming your hubby can’t see your book title – lol)
Maryse, got a pre-order for you!!!!! Another Katy Evans Real series book. It comes out Feb 9th, I think, & it’s called Legend (The Real Series Book 6) & it is about a fighter, Maverick Cage, who has it out for Remy “Riptide” Tate but he ends up falling for Reese Dumas, Brooke’s cousin. Sounds soooo good!
YES!!! Thank you Lauren. I think it’s in my main “upcoming book releases page” but this is a GREAT pre-order find!! 😀
Oh Fabi!! Thanks! Adding Caged series to my never ending TBR pile lol
Hehe…nope Fabi, he has NO idea what I’m reading right now. 😛 And I will keep y’all updated. I’m finishing up supper right now and then I’m going back to it. *bounces leg* Ooooooh, my heart rate kicked up just thinking about it!
Bev…last month I took some time and organized my books in collections by year purchased according to my Amazon account, so now it should be easier to stick with my challenge. If I just try to stick with 2 or 3 older purchases and then a new one without the year collections then it won’t work…I’ve tried and failed already at that. 😕
But yes!! I would love for you to join me…accountability and all that. 😉
Bev, I thought the story kept building in such a wonderful way. I love her characters too and how they develop and grow. So many bookmarked moments *happy sigh*
Fabi – I admit it. I fell hard for lizard man. Don’t know how she managed that – because he was not tall, dark, and handsome. Have you seen drawings on her website of him? Totally spot on – just what I pictured. What did you think of the ending? Were you surprised? At all?
Michelle Just a bit longer and I will be diving back into it for the rest of the night.
So who is planning on reading the new Bishop & Briggs books back to back? Not too long now, lol.
Fabi, have not read TLHoG, but I’d be ok with my hubby being the Prince Of the Dark Fae; just saying. 😉
My hubby has no clue either what I’m reading unless I explain to him why I’m laughing or crying hysterically. Quite honestly, I think he just side eyes me and quickly moves along when that happens. Ignorance is bliss. At least I’m home and he knows what I’m doing. *wink wink*
Oh Lauren, thanks for that awesome fine. The Real series. Remy. Be still my heart.
MichelleS, Meoraq was the perfect man, IMHO, alien and all. But, no, I haven’t been to website because I haven’t read Dead yet and I don’t want to accidentally hit on a spoiler. I am really squeamish about any little hint about a book I’m planning to read. — Did you see the kitty cat and iguana picture on one of the GR reviews. I cracked up laughing.
Hahaha Cheryl. Wouldn’t we all?
So, there are two Theresa?
This confuses me, lol.
Yes I am easily confused. But Theresa’s turn tonight.
Oops forgot to answer your question MichelleS. Parts of ending was a surprise. I was not expecting Meoraq’s revelation. I’d imagined more along the lines of the other revelations. And then, what I thought throughout the book was going to be revealed at the end never happened. So, yeah, it was a bit unexpected.
This talking in code is hard to do. Lol – Maryse, we need spoiler tags to hide comments with.
It’s 8:00.
Do you know what your wife is reading?
Bahahaha Amy omg Amy hahaha
I am single so nobody knows what I am reading lol. I hope this year I find a boyfriend. I am 31 dammit!
Lol, Amy.
Seriously you need to have him read one of those books. For bday present. Preface it by saying you find it to be incredibly romantic and all a relationship should be. And nothing else and then let him read it.
I can’t find Meoraq’s pics on R.Lee Smith’s website 🙁
Oh Bev you are EVIL!! Lol! Amy don’t do that to your poor husband!
Oh Bev, you’re evil.
Anne, you went to look? Gah, I’m so curious now.
Yes! I am browsing her website but can’t find anything.
LOL Bev!!! I can just see the look of horror on his face if I did that to him! *snorrrrrrrt!*
OMG Anne, can you imagine if you started dating someone and he just happened to see your Kindle library? Awwwwwwkward! 😛
Lol Amy! That could go 2 ways. He could think this girl is crazy or he could be turned on by it lol
What’s funny is you could read the most gruesome horror and no one would bat an eye. But romance and everyone thinks it means something about you, lol.
Like I seriously doubt Fabi wants to be Anna.
Great list for the start of the new year! I’ve added 5 more to my tbr. I took like a month off from reading with all the holiday stuff and am so happy to be getting back to books! 🙂 I recently finished Capture by Rachael Van Dyken (my first 2016 read) and enjoyed it enough. I love Rachael Van Dyken, especially her mafia series and the bet. I liked it, but the synopsis I guess was a little tired and predictable to me. I wanted something more original. Does anyone else find themselves rolling their eyes anymore at the usual parents are dead or some other traumatic upbringing that seems to be the recurring theme in these NA books? I mean I swear it seems like it’s in every single one anymore and I find myself not even interested anymore after reading it. *this book was a loan and I had forgotten what it was about* I find myself skimming over a lot of books anymore because they all sound a bit the same. Sorry I sound like a Debbie downer, lol. I did like it though.
Fabi…Im right there with you on that ‘no damn cliff hangers’ band wagon. Ggrrrrrr.
My NY book resolution is to totally steer clear of cliffys…. with the exception of older series that are complete (and bonus points if they’re packaged in a box set at sale price!)
I have a file on my kindle full of cliff hangers and their follow ups that I never bother to read because I’ve either forgotten the story and cant be figged re-reading or I just don’t care about the characters anymore (this is more often the case).
So 2016 is the year of the standalone for me.
And that was a super long rambling comment. Lol On the upside, I’m reading What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and am absolutely loving it so far! I’m a little over halfway and it reminds me so much of After I Do. And I saw it’s gonna be a movie, yay! Lol I absolutely loved Big Little Lies by this author, one of my top favorites, and am thrilled this one is just as good! I think I saw it on Sally’s favorites list and decided to give it a try. So thanks for the rec Sally! 😀
Just catching up on the posts about what husbands *think* we’re reading!! Hilarious.
I’m pretty sure my husband thinks I’m involved in some kinda online cult. I tried to explain it to him once….that we’re all over the world but often reading the same books and then gabbing about endlessly on a blog. He looked at me like I was completely insane. I didn’t bother to fill him in on the genre of books. 😉
Bev….you’re spot on. I used to enjoy murder mysteries years ago….but no one assumed I was a budding serial killer.
But you read 50 shades and everyone expects you to be sporting an interest in crotchless undies and butt plugs!!!
Bev, you’re evil!! But have to admit would be funny to see my husband’s face if I gave him Arsen to read and said it was my ideal romance!!
Anne, I agree could preface it with hey it’s like reading Cosmo but more in-depth!! *wink* Here’s to the year of the boyfriend!! 😉
Ok 1/3 left in Beaten and I just yelled “What the f*ck” very loudly and not in a good way! I’m soooo frustrated with this book and the silly bipolar characters! Ugh maybe it’s a dream sequence and this story didn’t just self-implode…
I’m right there with you Lisa with the no CH 2016. I accidentally read a few last year, and the last one pissed me off so much that not only did I not finish the series, but I’ve actually boycotted the author.
Its simple for me really, if the book is being published in parts, then let me know and if I’m interested, when all the parts have been published I will buy and read the story. Just don’t blow smoke up my a$$ selling me a “book” with no ending.
On a happier, less bitchy, note, I just finished To Love Jason Thorn. You guys are awesome and give the best recs. I 5 star loved it! A perfect love story with perfect characters. Every one of them came alive for me.
Michelle :-O
*huffs* yeah Fabi and it’s suppose to be a CH too!
😯
Ohhhhhhhhhh crap…that didn’t sound good at all, Michelle. *cringes*
I feel bad for you. It sucks when characters take a turn like that and ruin a story.
I’m holding my breath waiting for Big Rock. tick tock
It’s not good. At. All. You know when we possibly say we threw our ereader to be cute or funny…no I really threw my kindle on the floor (carpeted) but still flung it and then came here to rant of course *sigh* just *sigh*
*hands Michelle a late night martini*
Remember Amazon has a great return policy
*points to the hundreds of great rec lists on Maryse’s blog*
Go on, start a good one to get your mind off the yuckiness before you fall asleep
Tasha, ramble away! This place is as perfect to vent our book frustrations as it is to share our book love. I am TOTALLY on board with Fabi’s and Lisa’s CH frustration from up above, and I definitely share in your irritation about the overused themes found so often in books. I think what makes us all go so crazy on here over certain books is when the story is original and unique with very little or even no familiar and tired storylines.
By the way…I loved Big Little Lies as well!! 😀 My favorite character was the lady (can’t remember her name for the life of me right now) who bitched at the teenager using her cell phone while driving then promptly fell on her a$$ walking back to her car, and then she talked the other two ladies into having some champagne at breakfast after dropping the kids off at school. Good lord, I LOVED that woman!
*takes a big sip* I needed that. I will finish because unfortunately I will never DNF and not give a book a fair go…but when I’m done, it’s going back. How does it have all 5* ratings…how? *cue The Twilight Zone music*
That blows Michelle. Flat. Out. Blows. Here, let me check out the martini Fabi made for you to make sure it’s strong enough… *reaches for and sips Michelle’s martini*
*turns away and snickers at Michelle’s freak out* Sorry…hugs, Michelle??
Janie…I *think* Maryse had a psych thriller list or something very close to it at one point. Let me do some digging for ya…
Dang! Sometimes I wonder how things get five stars as well. Though, DNF is not a bad thing. Reading is supposed to be fun, not torture!
Fabi! *grins* Wasn’t it wonderful? I put four, but I swear, it probably should have been five. It wasn’t over the top or weird, but simply funny and sweet. I love sweet books. 🙂
Okay Janie, so this isn’t psych thriller but you might find something on here you’re looking for:
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/scary-books-horror-book-recommendations-some-even-have-romance.html
Help, anyone who is better at digging around than I am?
Thank you Amy!!! I was going to suggest that one, and I’m glad you pulled it up for her. 😀
Amy, you drink my martini (which was perfect Fabi thank you) and then snicker at my ‘throw things, stomp around’ freak out…

OMG this book is going to kill me!!!! Seriously, it’s going to be the death of me!! &#$@%&!!!!!! Why do I do this to myself? DON’T answer that, peanut gallery. Just don’t. It. Was. Rhetorical.
Arrrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!! And no one is here to snuggle me and try to make it better. *whimpers* Where’s my Jager????
I want to cry. I want to throw up. I want to SCREAM!! Where is this story going?!? I just want to KNOW. I swear…I SWEAR if it goes where I don’t want it to then I am going to lose my sh!t. And then I won’t even be able to lose it here because that will ruin it for anyone else who reads it. IF anyone else reads it. Someone read it!!
Michelle…happy, dear? You say no hugs for me right when I need one!!
What book has you riled up Michelle?? Beaten? I dont know it. By Rebekah someone???
Just so I can avoid it, particularly if it ends badly in a ch.
I feel angry for you.
Oh no all this talk of cliff hangers and I was going to recommend one I just read…..but book 2 is already out. And book 1 is for free on Amazon right now, so double bonus. If anyone is interested in a bad boy rocker then I recommend Summer Sky by Lisa Swallow. I picked up the book at a book signing event last year as I had read one of the authors other books. It’s really good, it has build up and it’s a bit emotional.
Oops. Picture is on her Facebook Page. Sorry! She is under RLee Smith –
https://www.facebook.com/rlee.smith.3
Oh God MichelleS, I wasn’t expecting that at all. Not what I had in mind.
Ok, who’s reading Big Rock with me today? @22% and so damn cute. Too bad I have to head off to work.
Awww, I missed the rants last night. *hugs to Amy & Michelle*
I really hate when I’ve invested my valuable reading time into a book that turns into a giant waste of time* AND don’t get me started on CH’s*
Ah, Amy see my previous comment about you reading a book about a husband’s affair!! *snicker*
Mimosas anyone?! Have some fresh grapefruit juice ones.
Yes I’m with you on investing reading time on a book that I’m not feeling. I find myself quicker to DNF than ever, because I’m looking for absolute entertainment. Right there with you guys. <3
*hugs Amy* Not even gonna be sarcastic… yet. Not when hugs are needed.
Antonella, I’m not scared of CH and love rockers, though I’m super picky. I want the full life, not rocker who really could have been a poet or worse, a rocker who shows so little of his life he may as well have been a grocer. *sighs* I’ve read both types.
Speaking of rockers, I need someone to read the NOLA’s Own series by Kelli Jean. I even woke up today longing to be back in that world again. The series is complete, if it helps?
Fabi it’s you and me!! Although, I kinda cheated and started Abruption last night, while I was waiting on BR to be released. The h is a feisty nurse-and it involves a special needs child- both of which I can relate to and loving the story so far. But I’m putting it aside to start Big Rock!!
I’ll have straight champagne, Cheryl. 🙂
I think Big Rock is going to be a quick read. I’m already at 38%. It’s cute and quirky and fun so far.
Antonella, it’s complete at two books or is there going to be a third?
Fabi, did you read the dedication, go huh, and then ohhh while looking at the cover, again?! *giggles*
Oh Amy I can’t hold out on you, especially since I needed hugs too last night *gives ya a big snuggle of messed up book understanding*
Lisa, yes it was Beaten from the list above. Read it was like Arsen and made a hasty decision to jump on it quickly. Writing was ok, story started out OKish but the characters did 180s too many times. I wanted them to all go away and didn’t care what happened after a certain point. Book betrayal of a sort. Weird situation because I will usually dislike the story or plot but it truly was the character whiplash that had me chuckling in unbelief and exasperation several times. Oh well, as Cheryl said, I just hate wasting valuable reading time 🙁
*dusts myself off* onto Rush today since I know that one can perk me back up 😀
Agh MichelleS I hate it when that happens! I do DNF books if I don’t like them though. Like Tessa said reading should be fun 😉
I am putting aside TLHoG for a little while to read Big Rock. I am at 25% on TLHoG but I swear I feel I’ve been reading for ages lol.
Oopps sorry! It was Michelle not MichelleS!
Wow, you guys were busy last night and I missed all the fun! Well, maybe not fun for Amy and Michelle! *hugs to both of you* And thanks to Michelle for taking one for the team. I was all over that Beaten book, but now I’m not!
*holds out and shakes glass* A bloody Mary for me, please. 😉
I almost gave up on The Affair last night – I’m serious, I was THAT worked up – but I’m glad I’ve stuck it out. There’s nothing like seeing things crash and burn when a character in a book decides to be stupid. 😛 I’m back to liking it.
I’ll just be in my blankie fort waiting on the aforementioned bloody Mary. 😛
Ugh I am home sick :/ My gastritis is flaring up. Do any of you suffer from this? I swear once I turned 30 everything went downhill lol.
Feel better Anne! Hopefully you can read something good to get you through the day!
Thank you Jean! I think I’ll read Rock Hard. I need a fun read 🙂
Aww Anne I’m sorry, hope you find a good book for today!
I did 😀 Loving Rush! Thankfully I’m off work so I get to relax and keep going!
read jollichoe road from the recommendations.SO DAMN GOOD EVERYBODY!!! its been awhile since a book got me hungover and made me feverish to turn the page. thanks for recommending it
That’s the one I’m reading now, Nancy!!! Thank you for letting us know. 😀
Cheryl, I did read the dedication. Very cute.
Anne, I hope you feel better soon. Tummy pain is just awful. 🙁 Have you tried hot peppermint tea? I have a friend who is a nurse and she recommends that for nausea, but I don’t know if it would help your condition. If nothing else, at least it will taste yummy. 😉
Oh wait…where’s Cheryl? She’s a nurse!
Michelle, are you reading Rush by Emma Scott or another Rush?
Yep Rush by Emma Scott. Loving it so much! I’m revived 😀
Janie, I’m reading You by Caroline Kepnes right now and it feels very psychological thrillerish. I too would love a list! I am pretty sure I’m not supposed to have the hots for the creepy guy but I think all the hot smut I read has me conditioned? I started off the year squirreling around but feel like I’m on a good streak. First Touch by Laurelin Paige was awesome and also had a creepy factor. A heads up that it’s a “duology”. Really liked F*ck Love. Reading Tarry Fisher always makes me want to reread everything of hers. And loving “You”. At 25%. Tasha J, I too loved ALL Liane Moriarty books. They get under my skin because they parallel real life so much but that’s what makes them so good. I esp loved What Alice Forgot because it really makes you question yourself and if you’ve changed and if for the better!
Forgot to mention “Missed Connection” is up next but wondering what people think?
Thank you Michelle! So happy you are loving Rush! Yaay!
Amy I am drinking ginger tea and it works wonders. I’ve read peppermint also helps 🙂 Hopefully I’ll feel better soon cause I really need to go to work tomorrow.
Marina I wonder if Maryse is liking it? I am waiting on her review before I buy it.
Omg who was it that suggested The Law of Moses? Tessa I think? I am freaking over this book and only at 10%!!!!!!!
Michelle, Rush…..sigh….so happy you’re loving it!
Hey y’all! Hope everyone had a great Holiday season and New Year! I started mine off with a broken ankle, which sucks cause now I need surgery and I’m so busy at work!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! So far luckily I’m working from home.
Latest I read was F*ck Love and loved it. What’s the next must read????
Jean, I remember Law of Moses! There were some tears and emotion around here at one point because of it. 😉 I actually connected more to her Infinity Plus One book, but LoM was a great read as well!
Ela!!! OUCHIE!! And surgery? Oh man…
*gently props Ela’s foot on a pillow*
*hands Ela a mimosa*
I know it’s not the way you want to get it but at least you have plenty of reading time now. 😉
I am loving Law of Moses….I decided to read something I downloaded a while ago in an attempt at tackling my TBR list! I’m at 897 on my TBR. No where near Amy’s monstrous number, so that makes me feel better! Lol!
Ela! How the heck did you do that? Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Michelle, make sure you read the novella after Rush. It is his POV but not a re-telling. It really explains his journey through Europe. You really don’t get that in the main book. So glad she wrote that – it completes the story.
Loved it!!!
Nancy…I loved Jellicoe Road! But that rec is allllllll Bev. She’s the one who brought it to my attention. 😉
Jean…*snort* Glad my source of anxiety can make you feel better. 😛
Hopefully the tea works, Anne! 🙂 Ack, Ela, take care of that angle. You don’t want to mess with messed up feet.
Jean, isn’t LoM awesome. So many feels. It’s the only one I’ve read by her but the feels were awesome. I’m gonna go look at Infinity+1 if it’s better.
I’m really realizing how wimpy California is when it comes to weather. It’s been raining here all day, and everyone is just in shock of, wow. A lot of rain. We had a lot of rain yesterday. *grins* This means that yes, we are looking at real rain today. maybe even two inches! This causes, of course, FLOOD WARNING, DANGER! on all news channels. Meanwhile, other places are looking at a foot of rain and thinking, meh. No biggy.
Geesh… Passes out complimentary muzzles while I catch up… chatty cathies anyway.
First off Ela! Omg girl… what happened *pats Ela* props her foot on two pillows, gives pain killers or alcohol… not both, you’ve gotta choose friend… LOL!
Amy, The Affair huh? but you’re sticking with it… so let me know if it’s worth it!
Fabi.. I’ve gotta know who you boycotted… I’m shameless like that! DM me on GR lol!
I swear to the book gods if I dont finish LoA soon, I’m not going to be responsible for my actions… this book is effectively killing me. Me, the lover of all things dark… yeah…I need to read Tessa’s rec… and Big Rock came out today and you’re all gushing about it *sniffle* Are you all feeling sorry for me yet??
And besides the Wolfpack/Bridesmaids group has our group read come up in a few days… and I cannot be behind before we start! *throws mini-hissy fit* where’s the wine?
Tessa I’ve been seeing all that flooding in California…..one clip on the news of a Lamborghini going through the high water….Crazy idiot!
I did read Infinity +1 and loved it too!
Nancy, I downloaded Jellicoe Road the other day on sale and can’t wait to read it!
Grey, you are cracking me up with your reactions to LoA. I think I was the one who got everyone started on that series. Sorry:(
OMG ladies!!!!! I was crouched on my apartment step, went to get up and bam right foot slipped on ice went under my left and I just fell on my right side….no feelings then bam again! I can’t stand on my foot. It swelled really bad but I didn’t want to go to the hospital because my insurance is new and I had no info, turns out I should’ve just went into the ER right away…oh well whatevs!
I’ll take the alcohol but once I don’t have to hobble on them stupid crutches! Thanks for the pillows *sighs*
Gah Ela!!!!! I was wondering where you were!!!
I’m so sorry… *sends good healing and soothing vibes to Ela’s ankle.*
Oh Ela, that’s awful. Glad you’re getting to stay home for now.
*hugs Ela* One clean break or multiple? Either way hurts, but the second is a major PITA. *shudders*
Jean, there you go! We are wimps/ idjits here. You know how man accidents are because, as the person is driving in the rain, they are texting? *rolls eyes*
I’m reading Embrace by Jessica Shrivington. I’m still waiting for action to happen. I’m sure it will, but she’s 17 and right now, she’s being a brat.
It may be one or two…the residents they sent in the ER were not very um, good?
Finished Missed Connection! Ackkkk, my heart!!! Very ugly cry warning!!!
Tessa, we have those idiots here too on the East Coast!
Oh no Missed Connection….you are scaring me Samantha!
Tessa….do I have a great rocker story for you. (Or maybe you recommended it to me??).
Just finished Forget and Blur from NA Alcorn and I have to say the H is right up there with Kellan from Thoughtless. Book 2 has very similar feels, messy triangle, angst, lots of awesome use of music and lyrics and heart shattering song dedications. Plus he whispers sweet and dirty in her ear in French. And his manwhore brother could rival Griffin. Book one is a CH but no issue because the story finishes with book 2. Amazeballs. 😉
Oh and whoevers thinking of reading Infinity + One…please do. Its a wonderful book…one of my favorite Amy Harmons.
Totally off topic, but… Who is this dude that’s on every cover suddenly? All my Amazon recommendations look the same because it’s that same guy: tattoos, beard, cropped hair on sides, long on top, major widows peak hairline…. Ugh… Don’t want same guy for every story.
I think that’s “Franggy” MichelleS…
Is this the guy? https://www.facebook.com/fracrox/?fref=ts
P.S. I’m not at all a beard girl. A few days scruff, yes… beard at any length? Not for me…
Wow lots of comments to respond to:
Anne- gastritis is no fun. Acute- Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatories:(ibuprofen) and alcohol. Chronic gastritis caused by H. pylori infection is treated with antibiotics and your doc can prescribe antibiotics. Several meds on the market- Prilosec, Zantac and antacides. One thing I’ve noticed with aging is tend to have more gastritis- something else to blame on hormones! Good luck and hope feel better soon.
Marina I read the sample of Missed Connection and was not feeling it.
Michelle I had Rush on my tbr forever and kicked myself once I finally read it and the novella!
Ela, poor baby- good luck with surgery. *hugs*
Lisa- I loved, loved, loved Forget and Blur and yeh Dylan may have knocked Kellan out as my BBF!!
Amy, here’s your bloody mary:
Tessa, that’s exactly how we see rain here even when we’ve had a nonstop downpour for 3 days straight…meh, no biggy. 😛
Finished The Affair. Huh. All of that anxiety and anticipation and dying to know only to have the ending just…fizzle. 😕 It was anticlimactic after all of that, so I’m a little disappointed and not sure if I will read The Consequences right away. To be honest, I’m probably going to track it and wait for it to drop in price. And don’t let the title of book 2 spoil book 1 for you…consequences could mean from an actual affair or just from her accusations of one that didn’t happen. And I’m not saying which it is. 😉
Cheryl…YUM!!!!!!!
Oh Ela! Ouch! Hope you feel better soon *hugs*
Cheryl! Thank you! I don’t have H.Pylori and take omeprazole every morning but I haven’t been following the diet recently so I think thats why it flared up. I was diagnose a year ago after an endoscopy. I just wish it would go away.
Finished Big Rock and loved it! Spencer is hilarious! It was just what I needed; a quick, fun, sexy read 🙂
Tessa!!! I finished Life of Anna book 2, guess what I’m starting?!?!
Anne, you finished Big Rock already? I’m only about halfway through. I’m liking it A LOT. But, To Love Jason Thorn was better.
Yeah! I think you are going to love Brad. He’s alpha yummy. (Same Brad as the lawyer from Hollywood Dirt).
Amy, we only get 15 inches a year, so a whole inch in one day is a lot. Two inches? That’s almost an insanity. lol
Tessa, I just bought Embrace yesterday. I was thinking about starting it after Big Rock. But it sounds like you’re only feeling lukewarm about it.
Jellicoe Road love, love it!!
Hey Maryse, know where you should go? Down Jellicoe Road, that’s where.
Lisa lives there——well in Australia.
I had too. But promises. Not starting again, lol.
Fabi I stayed home today so I read all day lol. Oh yes To Love Jason Thorn was so good!!
Thank you, Amy!!
Thanks for the recommendation, Marina!!
MichelleS, which books?
MichelleS you read my mind. I’ve been thinking the same thing about that model. He’s not my type to begin with and now he’s on all the covers.
MichelleS and Fabi. Im liking the hot dude with the beard and the Ned Kelly hair cut. But I often wonder why publishers use the same photo stock over and over i.e. the dude in the suit adjusting cuff links from Beautiful Bastard (thats on soooo many covers) and the Thief cover from LMwL is over used too.
Yeah seriously why did I wait to read Rush?! I can’t stop smiling and happy crying :’)
I love seeing all the love for Rush. It was a great book.
Emma Scott as a new book coming out soon Feb 9…’How to Save a Life’.
Cant wait.
Also Love Beyond Words was another I read in her City Lights series which was excellent.
Fabi…. I’m so happy you loved ” To love Jason Thorn”. I was hoping to read “Big Rock next” but I was hoping it would be as fun an good as To love Jason Thorn and u said it wasn’t as good:(…oh well
But I just got done reading the most addicting, intense motorcycle series ever..Have any of you read The Gypsy Brothers Series???? OMG soooo gooood!!! It’s seven books but each one is under 100 pgs …. The girl is absolutely the craziest heroine I’ve ever read and I just loved her to pieces….. It had everything I love in a book!!!! Oh the feels!!!! I still feel like I’m in their world
Deborah, Big Rock is great. I didn’t mean to imply it wasn’t. The Gypsy Brothers sounds great. I’m going to go look it up.
“A shadow fell across her path as she rounded the veranda.” ~ From the Chrysalis by Karen E. Black
Have a great day, ladies. 🙂
Four passengers in a stagecoach instead of six improved the experience from hellish to miserable.
Dancing on Coals by Ellen O’Connell.
Love it Michelle! Just reading slow. But should finish tonight. At 69%.
Then onto Jacked.
Okay, Embrace has gotten so much better. I think the start was a little slow since it looks like it’s a few books in the series. Whe the angsty hit, it got good.
No Thursday book yet.
That’s good to hear Tessa. I’m looking forward to reading it. I’m not sure if it’s next though. I finished Big Rock this morning and I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to read next. I’m either going to start Land of the Beautiful Dead and hope I have it finished by next Tuesday for The Score or I’m going to read Coming Around and Other Erotic Stories. I think either one will serve to cleanse my palette of all the CR I’ve been reading lately and get me ready to enjoy The Score next week.
I’ll be back with a first line when I decide. 🙂
“They found Moses in a laundry basket, wrapped in a towel, a few hours old and close to death.” (The Law of Moses, by Amy Harmon)
Not sure what I think about this book yet. I’m only at 30%.
I’m tellin’ ya Jean…I think you would REALLY like Infinity +1 by her. It’s kinda like a PG-13 version of Edge of Never with the whole road trip thing but with a different twist to it.
Jean you’re first lines…*sigh*, so good. The book sounds intriguing going by just that.
Mine isn’t the greatest first line I’ve ever read. But I’ve seen a couple of good reviews about this book. So here goes.
“Kelly said: “Would you like a glass of wine?”
Coming Around and other erotic stories by Tom Benson
I did read Infinity +1 and loved it Amy!
Oh…you said that before, didn’t you? 😕 Well, have fun with Moses then. 😉
“The lights are bright and hot and I feel little beads of sweat form along my hairline.” Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy
I’m still crying happy tears over Rush. The epilogue just destroyed me in a good way. Lisa, I have Love Beyond Words and didn’t know it…got it free in 2014. I’m soooo reading it soon!
Bev, LOVED Dancing on Coals so much! I’m off to a very very good start this year with already two 5* books. I’m going to read Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold this month too. When are we reading The Captive Prince?
Moving on to The Land of the Beautiful Dead. Wish me luck finishing by next Tuesday.
First Line Thursday:
‘Dear Brooke,
The first words are the hardest to write, so here goes nothing . . .’
Forget by NA Alcorn
I finally figured out what I want to read today. I need a rock star. 🙂
Jean, still too soon or not catching you?
No Tessa, it’s sucking me right in….have no idea what to expect.
I knelt on the floor, a pillow underneath my knees. Blindfolded innocence by Alessandra Torre.
Migraine here…bummed.
Ugh migraines… *turns down lights and sounds in Grey’s blankie-fort*
Oh, good Jean. 🙂 That’s always good when reading. Grey, that first line says a lot about the book. *grins* Fabi, give up on the other book?
And Grey, I hope the migraine fades. *hugs*
Yeah Tessa, I got a few pages in and wasn’t really engaged in the story. No patience. I’m going to start the other tonight. Work hasn’t let me sneak in any reading today other than those few pages.
Grey, I hope you feel better soon.
I finished Never Let You Go – it was 3.5 – 4 stars for me. Great ideas, but it needed to be more intense for that kind of storyline (two 10 year old foster kids get kidnapped and held for three years and form a bond. She escapes, he doesn’t. She sees him in a fight ten years later.) Major drama right? Well – things were just too tidy and not messy enough. Still good though.
Fabi – yipee!!! I think you are going to love it. I am impressed yo can do two epic reads like that practically back to back. I need fluff in between.
Speaking of fluff – I read The Lost Slipper, a Fairytale Shifter book last night. Heeheehee. Super quick read. Lots of “mine” and growling and mating heat. So I am ready for some substance again….
Hey guys! I am feeling much better today so yaay!
I started reading last night Worth It by Linda Kage and I am loving it!! Here’s my first line from that book:
“I loved the woods behind my house, from the fresh scent of pine to the crunch of twigs underfoot and especially those stray ribbons of sunlight that streamed through the tree limbs.”
“The servants called them malenchki, little ghosts, because they were the smallest and the youngest, and because they haunted the Duke’s house like giggling phantoms, darting in and out of rooms, hiding in cupboards to eavesdrop, sneaking into the kitchen to steal the last of the summer peaches.” – Shadow and Bone, by Leigh Bardugo.
I kid you not! That’s the first line. It’s going to be a wordy book. I might struggle with that if all the sentences are that long!! (it was on Fabi’s Goodreads “to read” list – I stalk you there Fabi….)
MichelleS, it is good, but wordy. I felt it could really do with an editor cleaning it, but I think it was more “Fantasy wordy”, so the editor let it be. That said, the story was good enough to keep me reading and entertained.
hahaha guys, we stalk each other’s as well as Maryse’s reading list
I wonder where I got Shadow and Bone from? Tessa maybe? I’m such a stalker. Reminds me of the weiner song, “I’m a stalker, she’s a stalker, you’re a stalker too”…or something like that.
MichelleS, I read a couple of short CRs since Gann. That’s why I’m ready for Dead now. But, overall, I always prefer the long, epic reads. I like the character and world development. Maybe that’s why I struggle sometimes with these shorter CRs.
I remember being really young (back when I read so much HR) and always avoiding the Harlequin ones because the books were so thin. I didn’t see the sense in spending the money for only a few short hours of reading. Everything is so much easier now with eBooks.
Oh Grey, I feel you with the migraine. Those things are HORRID. Hope you have some good meds (I love my sublingual Zomig) and that you are feeling better soon! *gentle hug*
Tessa, have you read The Institute by Kayla Howarth. I am beyond intrigued by the premise.
Fabi, I loved the Harlequin stuff too. They were at the used book store so I could get them for about 25-50 cents each. I read my first Regency that way, plus some really good ones that were funny and adored to the point of shredded.
I think we all stalk each other’s books. Why do you think I want everyone on Goodreads? Easier to stalk their books that way. 😛
Fabi, one sound. Oooooh! *one click* First one’s free, the rest are Kindle Unlimited. You have my interest!
lol, I was trying to find out if you’d read it so I could get your feedback. But one-click works too. You read twice as fast as I do so you’ll just have to let me know if it’s good. 🙂
First line: *tee-hee*
“My dick is fucking awesome.” Big Rock, by Lauren Blakely. Makes sense since the author wanted the R on the cover to look like a C. 🙂
Almost finished then I think I’ll go back to Abruption.
LOL on that first line Cheryl. I can’t wait to hear what you think of that one…
I didn’t like Land of the Beautiful Dead. Too horror-ish for me, but her writing is lovely. I love long epic reads. I can’t shake Gann, and will probably start a re-read this weekend. Sigh.
Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold is wonderful! I have loved all of her books. Elaine Levine writes historicals about the West that are great, so are her contemporary romances. Sarah Mccarty’s historicals are excellent, too!
I am waaay behind on updating my goodreads stuff. So many books!
I spelled my own name wrong. Lol!
LOL Melissa. I do it alllllll the time.
Wait…I don’t think it posted my comment, so that made no sense. Sorry!!
Hi everyone.
Email from SL Scott today to say:
If you haven’t read Until I Met You, it was chosen by Amazon for a Kindle Daily Deal today and they put it on sale One Day Only for .99 !
First Line Friday:
‘I met her at a bar’……Jay Crownover “Built”
Not the most intriguing first line but so far the book is good.
Tessa I am so excited you are reading Forget and Blur. The second book is just sooo angsty and frustratingly addicting. Loved them both…Dylan and Brooke. Enjoy!!
Grey…I hope your migraine has subsided some what. I feel for you, I don’t get them often but when I do they just wipe me out. Not nice. 🙁
Laura’s turn today, but if a Garwood fan……she dashes some dreams.
MichelleS, I have been very curious about that book.
Michelle, EoS,EoG….*sigh*♡
BR——after The Score. But before the 20th.
Not sure why, Fabi is that the new KMM?
Thanks Cheryl for your feedback on Missed Connection. Now I’m not sure what to start! Just finished You by Caroline Kepnes and LOVED IT!!! Wow, how did I just finally read this book?!?!?!?!? It has been on my TBR for AGES, since your review Maryse in 2014?. I cannot wait to read Hidden Bodies, the sequel. It is coming out in the US on Feb 23rd but in the UK on Jan 16th which is next week. Is it possible to download a kindle book from the amazon UK site? Prob just a few spelling differences? If it is possible, I’m all over it! It’s more than a month earlier.
Marina, YAY!!! I will ABSOLUTELY be reading the Caroline Kepnes’s next one. This is one book that I’ve actually UPGRADED the rating because I can still remember every detail… so good!
Ha Cheryl that first line made me lol!
Grey, hope you are feeling better. Could it possibly have been the LoA series that did it to you?
Grey, hope your migraine is over and you’re able to read some today.
Marina, I have You on my tbr too. Not sure why I haven’t read it yet. Maybe because it creeps me out. Does it end on a cliffhanger? Didn’t know there was a sequel.
Lisa…first line Friday…*snicker* that is so freakin’ cool. And you’re reading Built. I’ve been side eyeing it. Kinda discreetly, ya know? 😉
Bev, I have no idea what you’re asking me. I did start listening to Burned on my home from work because the new KMM is gonna be published soon. But, how in the world would you know that? *anxiously looks around for hidden cameras*
Ok, I’m going to sink into the Land of the Beautiful Dead now that I’m home. I only got to peek at a few pages while at work.
Lol, Fabi.
You had mentioned that you wanted the BR of Captive Prince before the 20th. I think. I was guessing on what book comes out that day.
So…….listening to the book that shall not be named.
Lol, yeah, that book. But the narrator, Phil Giganti is fantastic. Love him! So I thought the audio version might come across a little better. The beginning really threw me off though. I thought I had the wrong book or had traveled back in time accidentally.
Hmmm, what comes out on the 20th? I don’t remember. 🙁 but you’re right it’s probably KMM.
BTW I’m super excited about our Prince BR. I’ve been dying to read those books forever. And I’ve been purposely holding off since you mentioned the BR.
Fabi, dying to hear what you think of Dead! I’m really excited to read Prince too. I have to read both books before the new one comes out so we should start them maybe next weekend?
MichelleS, Shadow and Bone is one I’ve been wanting to read for a while, let us know what you think.
Melissa, I’m checking out those two authors thanks – can’t remember but I think I’ve read one. O’Connell is another author like R Lee Smith that I’m reading all their books eventually…ALL of them!
KMM and a new book…*sigh* someone will have to convince me to read it with a fantastic review because I’m not jumping in this time without a push.
I just hope you all like the Captive Prince. Fingers crossed.
Next weekend sounds great. Bev does that work for you? I’m sure I’m going to love it.
That sounds good Fabi.
I’m in for Captive Prince. When are we starting it?
So far so good on Shadow and Bone. Exactly my kind of read: smart, great dialogue, cool world building. Keeping fingers crossed.
Michelle, LoBD, idk, I’m at 7% and while the writing is superb, the story itself hasn’t really captured me yet. I tend to prefer sci fi over fantasy although I’ve read a few fantasies that blew it out of the park. Something majorly good is going to have to happen soon for this to be my weekend read.
I’m shocked Fabi that Dead hasn’t drawn you in yet! I guess it does start slower than Gann if I have to compare. 7% I can’t look up because I got the book from KU and haven’t bought it yet…MichelleS is she close to a majorly good part 😉
So good!!!!!!!!!! I’m having major difficulties moving on. I’m on a waitlist for the hardcover from the library but I can’t wait until Feb. 23rd knowing it’s out next week? That’s pure torture. I just tried to pre-order on the uk amazon site but was blocked. 🙁 You’ll have to tell us how it is!
Oh no are you reading Beaten Maryse? I will say I got to the 2/3 mark before I wanted to DNF but then I threw a fit as seen above *cringes*. Before that I was wondering where it was going. At a certain point, the characters made no sense to me though and their decisions. Really just did not like any of them, which was a shame because the actual writing and story was not too bad 🙁
Marina, I’m excited about the next book after You and had no idea one was coming out. I liked the old cover for You better though, thought it was more striking *shrugs*
Whoa, whoa, whoa…are you reading Jellicoe Road, Maryse?!? That one is perfectly unique and GREAT! Loved it. Bev was spot-on with that rec.
And no to beards. Definite nope octopus there.
Thank you to whoever suggested Forget and Blur. I just finished the first book and it was GREAT!!!!
Finished Never Tear Us Apart. It was good but didn’t blow me away. A touch too unrealistic to really fall into it. I’m curious enough that I will read the next one. Also it’s another CH…not a bad one but a CH nevertheless.
Tessa, I’m going with the Imp series next since your talk got me to pull it up on my tbr list. I need a paranormal break. Three CRs in a row is a lot for me!
Oh and Tessa, Deadhead by AJ Aalto is free right now and book 4 was released! Squee I need to get to that soon too 😀
Book four is out? Ooooh! I need that one. 🙂 I hope you like the imp series. It’s funny and just different. The MC is a truly terrible person whom you can’t help but like. *grins* Too bad about Never Tear Us Apart. I have it and will still read it, but it’s not as important.
Samantha, thank Lisa. I’m reading it too right now. I’m still on Forget. No angst yet, but I can see angst possible.
Tessa, Never Tear Us Apart like I said was good enough that I will read the next but I would wait to read them back to back…the CH was annoying.
I have Forget in my carousel since it was KU and I jump on most those books to make my subscription worth it. Report back if I need to read it asap 😀
Oh and the Imp series I added to my tbr so long ago and I can’t remember if it is more UF or PNR…does it have a romantic aspect? I remember hearing it was a series that gets better as you go.
Each book I read of the Imp Series does get better. I think any good author (or really any person) should do that. I just love the MC. There is a romantic interest, but at the same time, there seems more. And… I can’t even explain without getting spoiery.
I’m really liking Forget, thogh I’ve yet to feel angst. Honestly, I think my angst meter is broken. I didn’t feel much angst with Love Me With Lies. I can see why there might be, but I’m all, meh. It’ll work itself out. *rolls eyes* Yep, I’ve got a broken angst button.
Is Never Tear Us Apart angsty?
I’m excited to start Imp now yey 🙂 Have to work tomorrow but hopefully I can get into it for an hour or so.
I know my angst meter is broken. I read so many books with crazy situations and my reactions are dampened lately. Even Never Tear Us Apart is a good example. I’ve read the whole kidnapped as a child and her childhood friend/hero is reintroduced into her life a couple times so the emotional suspense didn’t wow me. It’s not really angsty according to my definition but again I think I have a high tolerance now. Amy’s angst meter is probably the most insane out of all of us!
If you’re feeling in a mood for fantasy, Michelle, you should join me in Shadow and Bone. Totally has you written all over it.
Dear Tessa….wait til Blur hun. Plenty of angst. Forget kinda builds the relationship between the MCs.
I think I have the most sensitive angst button (that sounds kinda wrong) angst meter (better?).
A really angsty book has me feeling almost sick and so anxious I have physiological effects…like goosebumps, shivers and ofcourse tears.
MARYSE….Franggy just became my screenaver. Thankyou for pics of all the magnificence of that beard 🙂
I don’t think it’s Fraggy… But he shows up a lot too.
Michelle, my angst meter sure was tested the other night when I was reading The Affair. 😉
Amy, Jellicoe Road!
*jazz hands*
MichelleS, next weekend for Captive Prince.
Also, what books do you see him on?
MichelleS, I’m all over Shadow and Bone soon then! Whatever I can squeeze in before Captive Prince.
Amy, adding to my wishlist with that statement! Hopefully it goes down in price a little…I already blew all my holiday GFs 🙁 Thought of Lily of the Springs the other day. Want to find another book set in that time period.
Michelle, I have a Monica Murphy book in my tbr. One Week Girlfriend. It got some love a few years ago. But I just saw a review for the one you read. Not a favorable review. She did have a review, also for a Megan Hart book that has a bit of the same premise. Gave it a high grade. I didn’t read the review cause thinking of actually reading it, next month. Going in blind. Maybe. I did read that she said it is v. dark and hard read and a bit scary. So not sure I will do it. And I have never read her.
Bev! I can’t wait to hear what she thinks of it!! *jazz hands back*
Lisa…when something is angsty for me I have physiological reactions, too. My chest gets all red and splotchy, and my tummy will actually start aching to where I couldn’t eat if I tried. When it is REALLY angsty, I will get an actual ache in my breastbone area. And I love that. 😉
Amy….you are so weird. I love it. 🙂
Ooh ooh ooh Michelle…The Affair is lendable!! 😀 Let me know.
Lily of the Springs… *sigh* I find myself thinking of that book SO often. You might be interested in Blue Plate Special as well if you are looking for something from that time period. It has three stories running concurrently from three different time periods (and it *works*), and one of the stories is from the same time period (from what I remember) as LotS. And once you find out what the title means…oh man, I’m getting a lump in my throat…
Bev I think Ive read the Megan Hart youre referring to. Is it Deeper? Great book. Ive recommended on this blog before.
*giggle* Lisa, only here can I say that and people don’t judge me. Tease me mercilessly, yes…but judge me, no. And I love that.
Bev, yeah I gave Never Tear Us Apart 3* which is my average book rating and really where I dump all books that I didn’t hate but didn’t feel super into either. It had dark topics but the actual scenes, I didn’t think were horrible description-wise. I was not connected to the characters though. I read Rush before, which had me soaking tissues with tears so it wasn’t going to touch that but I want to know what happens after the soft CH.
Lisa, Its Hold Me Close.
But have read Deeper by Robin York.♡♡♡♡♡
I really loved that book.
Amy. Lol. Oh its ok honey those are just my angst hives.
Oh Amy I would love to borrow it later thank you! I already feel like I’ve got January locked down with BRs, new releases and recs. If you ever see me talking about a book that is lendable (goes for anyone here) just ask me and I would absolutely send it on over 😀
Blue Plate Special I added to my wishlist, along with any book in everyone’s favorite lists I haven’t read, but didn’t read the blurb. I will check it out closer since it was nice to change it up and read that period.
Hi Cheryl, the book, You, does not technically end on a cliff hanger but it does leave itself open for a possibility of more. Don’t want to give anything away. It definitely is creepy. But sort of in a Christian Grey kind of way? But not.
Michelle, I agree with you regarding the covers. I like the UK cover version of the sequel, Hidden Bodies, better than the US version too.
