Tangled and Compulsive look good to me!
I just finished Untamed over the weekend and it just didn’t give me the same feels as the first three books, but of course this is Griffin we are talking about so you should expect something totally didn’t……total jerk, wanted to slap him A LOT, but in the end, he redeemed himself!
Reading Reckless Abandon now and just not as good as Pure Abandon so I’m a little disappointed.
I see a book slump coming in my future…….
*different* not didn’t….wish I could edit my comments! Lol!
Okay so we need to find our way out of a potential book slump… hmmm….
Maybe let’s choose one from Sadie’s list? I KNOW her entire list is book-fog quality. I’m sure of it!!!
Which one? I’ll read with you. I’m thinking God Shaped Hole, or The Kind Worth Killing, or Dangerous Girls, or Tiny Beautiful Things…
also Kristen Ashley’s latest is calling me…
Well Maryse, I haven’t read any of them! And I’m hearing great things about KA’s latest, but it’s part of a series isn’t it? And I’m a total stickler for reading a series in order…..sigh…..but does it have to be?
I *think* I’ve been told it reads well as a standalone…
maybe someone here can confirm?
Tangled involves a big bully? *sighs* Those are magic words right there.
Reap the WInd was super good, though not as much humor as the other books. Also, I’m still team Mircea though!
Ha, I saw big bully and immediately thought TESSA!!!!!
LOL! Yeah that one is calling me too… I love a TRUE a$$hole character that ends up stealing your heart anyway.
But especially if they let the jerk-part last LONG before the connection is made.
YES! Those are the best. They are so gut wrenching. I love them.
I read Untamed last night & not to worry about not liking Griffin…..you can’t help but LOVE him! Oh, and though we know he WAS a manwhore before Anna, the book starts AFTER their marriage (baby #2 is about to be born).
I had to get Born of Betrayal, despite the price. It’s a series I follow and love.
Did y’all know Kian by Tijan is free on KU now?
Fabi have you read Kian yet? It sounds so good! Hope everything went smoothly with your move!
Wish I’d waited on the LoA ones. I book the last couple books just last month. I haven’t read them yet but I think I paid $4.99 for each of them. So, that deal up there, all 5 books for $1.99? It’s a super duper deal if you like/want dark. …I mean the darkest of dark, train wreck rubber necking kind of dark.
Hi Jean. I haven’t read Kian yet. I’m interested in it but I’m still reading Stygian (which is great!) And then I’m going to read Illuminae based on Michelle’s reaction and the fact that it’s tight up my alley. ;-). So, yeah, I want to read Kian, but … Tijan kinda scared me.
The move was a nightmare. The most horrible experienced with movers I’ve ever had. But we’re past it now and unpacking. I go back to work tomorrow. I was going to go today but didn’t make it. I couldn’t find my underwear or my shoes. :-0. lol – moving is always such an experience
Kian was really good. I was expecting it to be darker, but honestly, Kian is so sweet, you can’t help but like him.
God-Shaped Hole is one of those where I just KNOW I’m going to be kicking myself for not reading it sooner…and yet I still won’t open it up. *eyeroll* Finally finished TGWATG (pretty good, but not what I was expecting or hoping for…did you ever finish it, Maryse?) and now I am jumping back into This Much Is True ’cause Cheryl has promised some gut-punchin’ angst with it.
Oh wow, I just realized when you mentioned Sadie’s list that I haven’t checked out the readers’ faves list for, like, two weeks…I have some catching up to do!
Oh YES Illuminae is interesting me so much too… it’s not my usual but you guys are loving it too much, it must be awesome.
Amy I haven’t even started it yet, ’cause I read November 9 for the review tour, and then went straight to “Room” ’cause TGWATG wasn’t blowing you away…
I’m reading absolutely nothing right now so i’m open!!! I gotta choose. I wanna start one for bed time.
Fabi *gasp*
What happened to make the movers and the move a nightmare? I missed some comments, I think…
Thank you for the Griffin update, Lauren! You guys would beat me if you knew the guy that keeps popping in my head for Griffin (’cause of how obnoxious he was).
LOL!!
Ummm…
DON’T CLICK if you don’t want your sexy bad boy image of Griffin ruined…
but THIS GUY automatically pops in my head when I see Griffin being “Griffin” and it drives me CRAZY.
I struggle. Even though I KNOW “Griffin” is supposed to be smoking hot.
Someone link me up to a hot version of Griffin, please? 😛
Okay, I just reached a new makeup low and have to share it with y’all because I *deserve* to get made fun of for this one…I got something in my eye while out running errands and it started watering, which made the eyeliner on the outer corner of that eye nonexistent. And it was a perfect cateye, dangit. Anyways, I didn’t bring my touch-up bag with me and now had horribly unbalanced eyes, so what did I use to fill in the part that was missing? A sharpie. Yes…as in a permanent magic freaking marker.
Let the heckling commence…
WHAT WHAT WHATTTTTTT????!!!
Amy now you’ll have that mark for a week or more!
Tee hee!!! 😛 I’m giggling. That is some “made-up-face-at-all-times” love!
By the way, how was November 9? I’m excited to read it but I want to go in blind (best thing with CH’s books ;)) so I haven’t read your review yet…
It’s really good! Not my favorite from her because I had a… mmmmm…. dubious moment where I had a lack of “just go with it” but it was entertaining and pure Colleen Hoover for sure!
I know! Now I HAVE to wear black eyeliner in a cateye style every day until it fades. *giggle*
There was just NO way I was going into any of the shops with one eye totally made up and the other…not. 😉
And back to TGWATG…good but not OMG-read-it-now good. I would actually recommend Thicker Than Blood more. Now that one was a REALLY good post-apocalyptic read…and you can’t go wrong with Madeline Sheehan. But no way am I reading the next one in the series. I. Just. Can’t. 😕
Popping in to say a quick hi and that I miss everyone! I’ve been crazy busy! Plus it’s Nanowrimo November and I’m an idiot haha, so yeah, LOL! I hope someone is taking good notes for me on what I’ll need to read when I have a few minutes to read instead of using all my free time to write!
well thats true… your eyeliner on top will keep it from being noticeable. Except for at night. When you’re sleeping… and your husband is wondering what’s wrong with you eye. LOL!!!!!
Amy, I was all prepared to tell you no way would I laugh. I did some crazy things in my younger make-up days. No harm, no foul, right? …Then…
I read Maryse’s last comment, so …now…
Bahahaha hahaha too too funny.
But I love ya cause you’re always such a good sport about everything. And, yeah, I really can relate to not wanting to run around with unbalanced eyes. Quick (though somewhat permanent) thinking with the sharpie. *snort*
My hubby is never going to let me live the Sharpie thing down after he sees it tonight. *sigh*
Aw Fabi, moving can be rough…especially that first day after when you don’t know where anything is. And especially THAT kind of stuff. The last time we moved, I was unpacking a bedroom box and realized I forgot to pack up my *ahem* private nightstand drawer before the movers arrived. No wonder the guy packing up our room kept grinning at me the rest of the day. *blushes*
Believe me, Fabi, I was soooo thankful that it was a dual-ended sharpie with one end being an ultra-fine tip! 😉
…and I have to laugh at myself when I do ridiculous things or something crazy happens to me. Unlike when hubby and I were first dating and EVERYTHING mortified me if it happened in front of him.
*rolls eyes at 17-year-old self*
Lol on your forgot to pack oopsie.
I had packers last time I moved (without the oopsie :-). But this time we packed ourselves. The problem came when it got late, the movers were tired, two extra showed up to help (high off their minds). Tempers flared and the movers literally threw the second load of furniture and boxes out of the back of their trucks and left. It was about 2 am and one of them had spent the last two hours yoadling (sp?) in the front yard. I think our new neighbours hate us without even meeting us yet.
Yeah, it was not a pleasant moving experience. But…we’re all safe and sound and like I always say, material things can be replaced or done without. The important thing is they left and we we’re all safe.
Thank you so much for including Christmas in Silver Bell Falls on the list!!
OMG Fabi!!!! That was a horrid move!! And he was yodeling in your yard? As in, yoda-lay-ee-hoo?!?
Hey Maryse, take your pick for Griffin from one of these…

*covers mouth and snickers*
Oh, and I’ve never thought of Griffin as hot (for whatever reason *shrugs*) so your link is perfect Griffin to me. 😛
This Much is True emotionally was BAM, BAM…oh you just recovered…double BAM but it wasn’t angsty for me. I just never really connected to the characters. Their decisions and the situations were just too unbelievable. I will read the next two to see where the story ends up though. It sure was entertaining all the way through, like soap opera entertaining.
Reap the Wind! Finally! So excited but really Tessa…Mircea when you have that hunk of man, Pritkin!? *slowly shakes head* Starting it now 😀
Fabi…Maryse…someone read Illuminae! I’m still thinking about it and the hardcover is crazy crazy amazing – truly a literary work of art!
Oh and Jean, sad that Reckless Abandon is not as good. I was really looking forward to it but yeah it’s hard to top Pure Abandon probably.
I just read your eyeliner fix Amy…umm that’s a makeup diva fine right there…just noooooo. Hopefully it was fine point sharpie at least…
YOU GUYS!!!!
Have any of you seen those fun short “buzzfeed” style food videos. Recipes for how to make something real quick?
I JUST MADE THE cauliflower fried “rice”. OMG IT IS AWESOME!! It had eggs and chicken breast and EVERYTHING chicken fried rice has… but NO rice.

Maryse what are you in the mood for?
Tiny beautiful things really doesn’t have to be read cover to cover. Probably shouldn’t, some heavy stuff. Great for dipping in and out of.
That looks great. I like cauliflower. B ut I love soy and cover my rice in it any way so that’d be what the cauliflower would taste like.

First time trying this…. Let me know if it works. Better image of Griffin.
Holy moly Jean.. if THAT is what Griffin looks like… LOL!
Actually that is what Acheron looks like, to me. 😉
AMY!!!! *snort* I don’t pick any of ’em. BRAT!!!!
*hugs Grey* OMG, I’m an idiot too! Worse, I[‘m scrolling rather than typing. 🙂 Buddy me. I’m Tessa Doireann on there. Yes, facepalm moment of using parts of my real name and you can’t change your name. *sighs*
Maryse, honestly, I always adored Griffin. I couldn’t see why Keira didn’t. I just wanted to hug him. How he looks? Honestly Chris Hemsworth type, but scruffy, for me. He’s sexy and since I read thoughtless, that’s been how I picture him. Big, broad shouldered, and so sexy he gets away with too much. 🙂
This just made me sad. 🙁
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/saddest-dog-in-the-world-waits-for-forever-home/ar-BBmKI8c?li=AAa0dzB
Eeewwwww Maryse. You are killing my Griffin image. Im with Jean….much better. I think that guy is an Aussie model.
I think Griffin has to be a bit of a brat/joker….cheeky for sure. A Hemsworth would work too (also Aussies… God we have the hottest blokes ever).
Michelle, it fortunately had an ultra-fine tip on one end. 😉 Makeup diva fine?? But…but…it was done like this
so I couldn’t leave one eye like that and the other without the wing! You understand, right? Right?!?
Oh I wear a thin cat eye everyday so I get it and I’ve been there. I rarely do not have my touch up bag in my purse buttttt…a sharpie…yeah *stamps a big red FINED on that* Seriously though, maybe if you put a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and gently rub it without getting it in your eye of course, it might come off?
Okay…Jean’s image of Griffin is pretty hot, but I can’t stop looking at the link Maryse posted. It makes me snort every time I look at it. Every. Time.
I do have a craving for cauliflower now though after Maryse’s gushing…I want to make that recipe!
Am I the only one who didn’t find Griffin appealing? I guess I always saw him as “that” guy…you know, the one who isn’t ugly but isn’t gorgeous either yet he manages to get a bunch of girls because of his confidence and obnoxious behavior. Come on, we ALL knew that guy when we were younger! I was with Keira…Griffin just annoyed me more than anything. Do I need to duck and cover now?
Nope. The second he was mentioned, I liked him. I know I’m odd, but he was just awesome. if Kellan hadn’t been great, I’d have been rooting for Griffin and wondering what’s up with the book. lol Seriously, he’s obnoxious, but I think the fact that he liked Keira even when she was snooty to him made me adore him.
*grumbles* Yeah, I’m going to need some rubbing alcohol for the big red FINED stamp I just got… 😛
Hey Lisa…do you ever say “no dramas” instead of “no worries” like we do here in the U.S.? My hubby has worked with some Aussies a few times, and he said they kept using that phrase. He also said y’all have some scary spiders over there. *shudder*
*slowly scoots over to Bev*
Can I hug you after reading that article?
*snickers and runs away*
It is sad though. 🙁
Well Amy… you saw what my mind keeps thinking he looks like. 😉
I read it too… *sniff sniff*
*fistbumps Maryse*
We’ll leave Jean, Tessa and Lisa to their Griffin fantasies. 😛
…although, Lisa seems to be feeling full of spunk tonight so we need to watch out for her.
Yes, Lisa, I went there.
Amy, *no dramas mate* is a frequently heard term from my husband. The other Aussieism /slang that someone recently pointed out to me, but is often heard (mostly from Bogan’s…which is another story).. *yeh nah* which means *no* OR *nah yeh* which means *yes*.
Confused yet?
And yes the spiders are hideous. We have a redback problem atm as we’re renovating and keep finding them hiding in ceilings and under timber. Very toxic.
I’m not a fan!
Google redback spiders and Sydney Funnel Web spiders and you’ll get my drift. *shudder*
ACK!!! Your redback spiders look like our black widow spiders…and they’re awful! I’m sitting here with my feet tucked under me now, and I keep peeking at the floor for spiders. 😕
HELL! NO! *shudders* Why do these spiders exist? Like, seriously, I am shivering in literal fear from the pictures alone. Okay, admittedly, I have arachnaphobia, but STILL! VENEMOUS! Who is responsible for those things living? You have both and tons of the Widow family spider all over your house? Oh, HELL NO!
Rubbing alcohol doesn’t remove that big red FINED stamp…that sucker is permanent 😉
Oh gahhhh why did I google those spiders before bed, why, WHY? I would freaking move if I saw anything like that routinely in the vicinity of my house!
Crazy busy time for me continues…. but…
Jean – that’s Rammel Hawking!! Who is this griffin dude?
I am reading KA’s latest. Taking forever. Very very much classic KA. Just taking forever!!!
I finished my oldie-but-goodie that I needed to get read… I’ve been reading The Breeds series for years and hadn’t read latest one, so I did that. Hot as usual.
Life of Anna for 1.99 – the whole series? wow – I bought them separately. Darkest of the dark reads there. Every taboo I can think of, actually.
Fabi – where did you move to? Still in the Dallas area?
*blinks* Did you read the Thoughtless series, MichelleS?
No. No hugs.
But that story seriously makes me sad. She doesn’t know where her family is. Amy, you need a dog. They love hugs & huggles. Adopt her. She’s Canadian like Maryse.
I am cracking up here at Tessa’s and Michelle’s reactions to the spiders. *giggle*
MichelleS…what Tessa said…
Bev…no doggies or kitties for me ’cause of hubby’s allergies. 🙁 But I have Manny the trusty stuffed manatee! 😀
Spiders that are venomous, Amy! They are small, so you don’t see them, then bite! You’re dead. Don’t they have kangaroos and stuff in Australia to kill those things. Stick the Kangaroo population on those things. Hop them to death!
MichelleS, a little further north, in Lake Dallas. Not too far.
I going to catch a few reading minutes
tonight before I go into withdrawals.
Finished Reckless Abandon and liked it but was expecting more. I don’t know it was a little cliched maybe? I just think he deserved a better book. Don’t get me wrong it was a good read and I enjoyed it but didn’t love it. 3.5/5 for me.
WOW, first so many good books on this list to choose from and so many comments to catch up on!! RL getting in the way of reading and commenting! 🙁
Maryse & Amy, was Griffin bald at some point? I picture a combo of the creepy dance guy Maryse posted and the hot Australian guy. Tall, kinda lean scruffy guy.
Amy, you never cease to amaze me-so dedication to makeup. I was going to rec. alcohol to clean sharpie off too.
That dog is just so sad. *just want to cuddle him*
FAbi, that is just wrong on so many levels. Glad you made it to the other side of your move! *hugs*
Amy, was it you that said something about buddy reading Sweet Nothing? Trying to decide what to read next. Although, Epic Sins is calling to me too.
Sweet Nothing is getting really good reviews Cheryl! I’m reading The Fall Up right now by Aly Martinez and I’m loving it! Really want to read Sweet Nothing too so let me know if you guys buddy read it!
Anne, I felt the same way about Reckless Abandon. So disappointed because I wanted more from him. Getting his POV ONLY in the Epilogue was not enough!!!!
Hullo all,
You guys are cracking me up! Amy! I heard that hand cream (like ponds cream) or a cotton ball with nail polish remover will do the trick to get rid of a marker stain.
Fabi, hugggs.. Glad you finally got settled safe and sound. You deserve a good book.
While most of you are reading new books, I’m now reading Lothaire by Kresley Cole. Like MichelleS, I wanted something old school, especially paranormal. OMG, so good! Lothaire is so infuriating and SO mean and jerky to h 🙁 Love h. She is spunky, smart and brave, and the interaction between H and h is really fun. I’m past 2/3 of the book and don’t know what to read after this. Expecting book slump.. I may try One Kings Way. It sounds good and I love the author!
Jean , I think I am going to start Sweet Nothing later today. Good to know about The Fall Up- one I was thinking about too!!
Young, I felt the same way about Lothaire. Soooo good. The heroine made that story, though. If she’d been weak, it’d have been blah, but she’s so strong, it was awesome. Felt like smacking Lothaire a BAZILLION times.
Thanks, Young! I actually was able to remove it last night (well, most of it…there is still a teeny shadow of it) with waterproof eye makeup remover. Yay me! 😀
*sigh* See, this is why I’m getting a bit tired of series…I’m starting Verum because I wanted to wait until all of the books in the Nocte series were out, and I don’t remember much about the first book beyond the *GASP* at the end and a few hazy moments. Alright, now to go look for some spoiler-filled reviews that might refresh my memory.
Unless someone wants to recommend something that I might have already (over 2100 unread makes that likely :P)…I’m looking for emotional or angsty or a mindscrew, any or all of those. Y’all know what I like. 😉
Amy, if it helps, the end of the month the last of the Debt Inheritance series is coming out. I don’t know if you want to wait, but other than the first book, they are all full books, and so mind messery I still remember how the last one went.
Amy, how about reading Sweet Nothing with me. I think it was Lisa that said some of the reviews said you need therapy after reading it!
Awww, just noticed the new book at the top. Love sports romance stories!! One-click on Third Base. Bonus that it is a standalone!! 😉
Aw crap, Tessa…I want a mindscrew but I don’t know if I can go THAT dark. I have to be in the right frame of mind for those books. 😕
I know you can appreciate this though…I saw the name Finn in Verum and was reminded of a certain book with a girl on the cover crouching by a puddle. Oh, Finn. *rubs chest with fist*
Cheryl, would it be awful if I waited until you get through the first chapter or two to see what you think before I jump in? I haven’t one-clicked that one yet…
I’m hearing great things about Sweet Nothing! I haven’t bought it yet either so Cheryl, you are up as the guinea pig!
Amy what book were you reminded of by the name Finn? Just curious….
Jean…If He Had Been With Me.
What do you say, Tessa? Does Jean need to read IHHBWM? I say she needs to read it. 😉
I also say Maryse needs to read it, but we have to catch her when she’s in the right mood for it…a mood for a heart-wrenching read set in high school. Right?
Loving The Game Plan!! Half way through!! Such a feel good love story!! Sometimes you just need one of those!! Loving the whole series!! Highly recommend it!!! Makes me laugh n almost cry n of course swoon!!!
That would be a good marketing slogan for a romance book. “Guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and swoon.” 😉
I read Walk Through Fire & I think you can read it as as stand alone but it’s so much better reading the whole series as you really get the full effect knowing all the characters. I fell in love with all the characters in the series and it’s so nice to read about them & catch up with them so to speak!! Love KA!!! She’s an awesone author!!! Loved every single book of hers that I have read!! Book slump peops read Crazy Love by Rachel Robinson or Wed to the Bad Boy or The Allure of Julian Lefray n then of course the Allure of Dean Harper!!! Oh my list goes on n on!!!
Lisa M I’m half way through Game Plan too and really enjoying it. Its refreshing to have a H who knows what he wants, is mature, can communicate and is caring and still a bit of an alpha. Feel good swoon for sure.
Amy I wanna be adopted too! 😀
I kind of wanna read Sweet Nothing too… I love the marriage issue. Perfection and then… destruction! YES!
Amy which one are you talking about (the high school one?)
I started Sweet Nothing, at 20%. Willing to take one for the team. Slow build so far. I’ll let you know how it goes. “Hearing” there is a twist, puts a different light on what I am reading so far. Have some thoughts…
This is what I mean about twist; in the blurb it also says this: “When you think you know what’s happening, you’re only half way there.” This is going to be another one of those mind-f&cks like Jezebel or Mudvein or Badger!
Amy, read Jellicoe Road.
Cheryl and some have mentioned an ending that is NOT a cliffhanger but that messes with you bad…
Oooh, Michelle & Fabi, did you see?
Reading The Play and it is very hot. The Tom Hardy visual of course helps too!
bev… tee hee!!!! 😛
Marina, I bet that will be the best one yet!!!
“I love the marriage issue. Perfection and then…destruction! YES!” <—- I seriously love your way of thinking…BOOK thinking. 😉
Oooooh!!! I'll adopt ya, Maryse!! And then we can build blankie forts and snuggle with Manny and make fabulous martinis and do manis/pedis and play with makeup, and you can read to me while I cook, and then we can fly in everyone from here and have slumber parties!!! 😀
By the way, Maryse…the HS book I was talking about was If He Had Been With Me. Gut. Wrenching. Just ask Tessa. 😉
Bev…is that the one by Melina Marchetta? I hope so ’cause I just one-clicked it…
Lisa! Do you still have that book, The Inevitability of Stars, that you said you could send to me?
*scrolling, scrolling, scrolling*
*scratching head*
Beeeev, see what?
Sure Amy..It’s a hard copy book. So I’ll get Maryse to send me your post address and I’ll send it on. Amazing book.
Maybe you can send it on to the next person who’s interested and it can be a ‘travelling’ book. 🙂
Amy, lol. Yes. But I was guessing you already had it. You know so no one click.
And I am sure your husband will not find it odd at all. “So, there is a woman off the internet that I’m adopting. She likes twirling, make up, and pajamas. She can only go to a home with books. Don’t worry, her room is the blanket fort.”
Fabi, look at the home page posts or fb feed.
Don’t have FB only Twitter. Going to look for “home page”.
Bev, you are an Internet wiz.
LOL Bev!!! OMG, that is hilarious how you just summed it up! I literally snorted out my tea when I read “her room is the blankie fort.” Hubby is gone for work so much anyway so, meh…he doesn’t factor in. 😛
*giggle* Michelle and Fabi are gonna go nuts when they see…
Oh, Fabi, I hope you are saying that sarcastically. I suck at all internet and tech type stuff. Just on here a lot. I do not have fb either. But Maryse post her updates here on the blog. On my phone it is at the bottom of the page. On the “home” page, lol.
Lisa, I would love that! Yes, we can go through Maryse to get my address to you, and then I will DEFINITELY send it on to another lady from here when I finish.
The sisterhood of the traveling book. *snort*
Yeah, yeah, yeah…I can hear the collective groan after that comment.
Bev! Maryse! Michelle!
omg I don’t even know who to call at this point. I am so excited about Maryse reading a book that is pretty much out of her genre (and in mine — and Michelle’s and Tessa’s and omg I’m too excited to think. Who else reads YA dystopian?)
Tessa, I’m getting the hard copy tomorrow. When are you going to jump in?
Bev, I wasn’t being sarcastic. You always have awesome links to news, reviews, funny articles, videos, pictures…I don’t know how you do it but you always find good things fast on the Web.
…thanks for sharing with us
I’m so excited that I’m posting back to back.
Sorry, I’ll stop.
Three words. Law of Moses. I knew from all of you saying it’s good I might like it, but WOW. I cried, I laughed, I wanted to hug myself and twirl. *grins* LOVED IT! I went into this totally blind and I’m glad I did. Just wow.
Fahi, I’ll look into it. Not sure how I feel about a book that HAS to be real, not Kindle. Not because I don’t like real books, just from how it looks as far as reading, but heck. I’m game for these things. 🙂 YA dystopian is a good genre, after all.
Tessa, I remember really liking Law of Moses. I know it’s probably too soon for a similar read, but you would probably really like In the Fields by Willow Aster. That one was GREAT and so different for me with the whole racial bias issues (I think I remember some of that in LoM, right?), but some stuff happens in ITF that I was *not* expecting, and I ended up being sucker punched followed by a lot of tears. Keep it on your radar. 😉
Ok, just finished Sweet Nothing. I’m having a WTF moment and not really sure what I think about it at the moment, other than I want to throat punch the authors for that ending. Yes, Maryse it does not have a cliffhanger, but What. The. F*CK!! I enjoyed the story, although it needed some editing, and I was right about what I thought was happening, but sadly that doesn’t make me feel good because the story built and crashed and then…
Well damn, Cheryl…was it a Tarryn Fisher type of ending?
Oh NO Cheryl….I felt apprehensive about that book based on some of the reviews BEFORE..but now you have me way to frightened to read it. If it was a rip your guts out ending Im not up for it.
*jumping up and down* Maryse is reading Illuminae!! I can’t even contain the excitement. I do not even think I need coffee this morning 😀
Tessa, I read the kindle version and it was still amazing…just that the visual part is better in the actual in-your-hands book which I now own too and think it’s gorgeous!
Oh sh!t Cheryl! You are scaring me with your reaction. So I assume there is a second book?
Tessa, so excited about Law of Moses. I’ve had that for so long and just kept skipping by it! Moving it on up the list!
I love YA dystopian too, but I need the real book??? I seriously struggled recently reading the real book of Untamed. I’m so used to being able to access my books anywhere, by phone or tablet. Don’t know if I can do it again.
As far as I know there is not a second book Jean.
Without giving anything away, it wasn’t a Tarryn Fisher ending and you shouldn’t be scared to read it because of the ending.
LoM didn’t have much as far as racial tension, but more his other issues were the factor. The second half with the tears though. *grins* I loved that part. Anyone reading it and scared of tears, don’t be. You all know I’ll scream and kick and say UGH if it was super bad tears part.
Tessa LoM didn’t work for me but I LOVE that reaction you had! Twirling, and smiling through tears. 🙂 I don’t mind the ones that as sad as can be leave you feeling hopeful or find some beauty you know?
It is weird the things that make me cry–like Bird Box. Lol.
Bev, that’s just how In the Fields was. It’s set in the very early 1970’s and broke my heart, but it still had a feeling of hope throughout the book. Seeing as how you recommended APTCH (and it was definitely a good rec ;)) I think you would like ITF.
APTCH? You know my Goodreads alone has over 2000 books read, and that’s just the tip of the iceburg, right? *grins* There’s no way I can remember titles. (Imagine, since sixth grade, at least 100 books a year.)
Yeah Tessa, I saw on GR you read over 280 books this year! That is impressive!
APTCH is A Place to Call Home that Bev rec’d to me for something with a SGT feel.
Geez, 280 this year? If I was able to read like that (and I SO wish I could) then I could make a serious dent in my unread books!
And WTH is going on in Verum?!? Did it suddenly switch to PNR? ‘Cause I’m getting pretty frustrated right now with all of the what’s-going-on and you-have-to-remember-on-your-own and you’re-not-safe-but-I-can’t-tell-you-why. And I’m only at 25%!!
I’m about ready to take on Sweet Nothing at this point…
280. *blushes* I stopped looking once I won the challenge way too early. Though, some of those are novella series. KU means I can read them without the frustration of paying for a >100 page book.
Tessa, 280 books and we still have 2 months to go? I am so jealous. I think I barely broke the 250 mark last year with tons of reading time. This year I’m doing good to cross the 100 mark. Sooo jealous. Are you posting reviews for all of them? At least I could read vicariously through your reading reviews. I’d ask Michelle to do the same since she also reads so fast, but I don’t think she’s even on GR.
First line Thursday!
“Everything is in slow motion.” ~ Verum by Courtney Cole
It picks up precisely where book 1 left off, to the exact second…I like that. 🙂
I need to go back and write a few reviews. I started getting lazy or well, busy. 🙂 And thank you Amy. I got so confused on that one.
I can’t do First Line Thursday! I’m back to writing. *sniffles*
That first line is intriguing Amy.
What Tessa? You’re a writer? …and you’re not reading a book right now? I’m so confused.
ROFL Hardly. I just do Nanowrimo for the challenge.
First line Thurday:
“Okay, let’s see.” Nuts by Alice Clayton. A lighthearted, funny read. Just what I needed after last couple mind & gut wrenching (aka mind-f&ck) books. 😉
I can’t even imagine entering a writing challenge. That’s really pretty awesome Tessa. You should share with us.
Fabi!! We are book sisters this year. I will do a very happy dance when I hit a hundred. At first it kind of stressed me out, but know kind of enjoying it. *shrug* I have been reading the same book all week. A bit at night and in morn. In a way its been nice tosavor it. I get to kick about London everyday being a PI. 🙂
Can someone explain Nanowrimo to me?
“He had not managed to scrub off all her blood.”~Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith
Bev, you make a good point and I have to agree. I’ve been savoring Stygian. It’s really good, and reading it slow has extended the reading pleasure. Like letting chocolate melt in your mouth instead of chewing it. 🙂
I did a bit of research on NanoWriMo today. Apparently, its a group move to write a novel in one month. November. It’s seems like an awesome opportunity for writers to colab and communicate. I know several of the authors I follow on Twitter are participating. —Tessa still blows my mind.—
GO TESSA!!!!! 😀
Wait a sec…
*scrolls back up*
I think Grey is participating in that, too…so proud of you guys!!
Grey and Tessa are writing a book? I thought Tessa was talking about writing a review of LoM.
That’s awesome Grey & Tessa!!!
We have the best group!!! :D!!!!
Thanks everyone! Grey is doing better than me so she might take a while. Me… well, I’m on this site right now, right? 🙂
Ooohhh, that’s right! Grey mentioned it too. Go Grey! I’m surrounded by talented people. I don’t know whether to get shy around you all or to high five the awesome group here.
Tessa and Grey, I’m impressed! You go girls!
Michelle and Fabi, your excitement over Illuminae is awesome!
Starting reading Epic Sins and I just couldn’t get into it. Didn’t enjoy the writing and having a hard time connecting to the MC’s and his situation occurring without anyone questioning the validity. DNF for me…no luck so far finding something that interests me. 🙁
I temporarily switched from Illuminae to Kristen Ashley’s latest. I’m connecting with that one much more…
Huh, looks like it’s contagious…I’m switching to something else mid-book as well. Verum has been a disappointment for me.
You know which one I am looking forward to though is Unhinge by Calia Read. Remember the GREAT mindscrew of Unravel? Well, Unhinge is about the lady we saw briefly in the psych hospital who was holding the baby doll. And I loved her Sloan brothers series as well as Unravel so I can’t WAIT for this one!!! 😀
Oh no Amy, that doesn’t sound good for me. Glad I only downloaded a sample. That book is pricey!
Hey, I have Unravel but haven’t read it. Did you love it? I noticed you were reading Verum and knew I read it. Had to go back to GR for a reminder. Hate when I can’t remember, and guess what still can’t remember much, just a lot of mindf#$kery. Already downloaded Initium, but not Lux. If I remember correctly, there were too many questions and not enough answers.
Jean, did you read Nocte (book 1) and download a sample of Verum? Or were you talking about the book Maryse is (or was) reading? Verum is killing me with the same conversations from the same characters over and over and freaking OVER again without any real progress in the story. I’m so disappointed after how much I liked the first one. 😕
Yes, I LOVED Unravel!! Perfect mindf&@k but it *will not* leave you frustrated. I just know you would love it! Did you ever read Every Which Way by her? Two brothers and an awesome h (she doesn’t bounce back and forth between them though) who is a perfect balance of strong even while she is breaking on the inside…and ohhhhhh the heartache and angst that brings her to the breaking point. Perfect!
Maryse, didn’t you read Unravel? I can’t find your review for Jean, but maybe I’m mistaken…
I read Nocte and Verum. Downloaded Initium (#2.5).
Downloaded a sample of Illuminae. Haven’t read anything by Calia Read……
I feel like I need something different so thinking about starting Wither.
Are you talking about Wither from the Chemical Garden series? ‘Cause I’ve had that one sitting on my iPad for a while now and it sounds like a great, unique dystopian series.
No, Wither by Amy Miles. I think it was on someone’s recent favorites list or some list here. It is psycho thriller, post apocalyptic. But the one you mention looks good too! I want post apocalyptic or dystopian……..this is Fabi and Michelle’s department. I know they could recommend one!
Amy I DNF’d unravel. *gasp* And this was a year or two ago…
I already guessed, too early on… and was so frustrated with myself that I quit it. LOL!
Ooh! I remember that one now, Jean…it sounds good, too! And you’re right, Michelle and Fabi are the BESTEST at recommending books in PA/dystopian books. 😉
Wh…wh…pbbbttt… *sputters* I thought for SURE you had read that one and liked it, Maryse! So which one am I thinking of? *sigh* Now it’s gonna drive me crazy until I remember the one I was thinking of…
Jean if you’re looking for YA dystopian with romance, have you read the Uglies series? Under the Never Sky is post apocalyptic, also good. Starts YA but becomes NA. Both of those have romance.
If you want a mind f..erm…twist…a fwisk! Try Incarceron or go for the ever popular Maze Runner series. Both are YA with little to no romance but crazy WT(H) moments.
Yes, I can come up with a rather long list here. LOL but I’m driving (stopped for a minute) so that’s it for now.
Amy, I just downloaded a sample of Wither from the Chemical Garden series. It sounds good! But, it also sounds familiar so I got the sample before buying it to make sure I haven’t already read it.
Thanks!
Thank you for helping with selecting the best of the best. J
