*tosses glitter* happy last Tuesday of August!
*hugs Grey & twirls us in the glitter*
Happy Tuesday! Oh Jennifer-I need to read that book however I am not a fan of a series unless all the books are out. The torture of waiting kills me. I made the mistake of reading ” Bring Down The Stars” not knowing anything about especially did not know it was a duet and I’m still not over where that book left me so I will wait till the other one is out before I start. Great list as always Maryse
*basks in Grey’s glitter*
Good morning my fellow book loving friends.
Can you believe it is almost September??? I want to hit pause button.
So, I think I am officially in a slump. I haven’t read anything I have loved since All Your Perfects over a month ago and I seem to struggle to finish every book. 🙁
*stupid slumps*
Maybe we should try one of K.A. Tucker’s latest ones. Or maybe that Kiss Quotient one that everyone is into…
Or maybe a kdrama.
Finally finished Ravensong. It was good but not at the same level as Wolfsong.
I can’t get over that Gordo deserves a better apology, lol.
Now onto By the Book.
bev, I do suggest Lovesong. I still agree about Gordo, but Elizabeth’s short story helps.
No book slump for me. I finished Crew last night and it was good. Not FCH good, but really good. It has a lot of potential with the next two books coming.
And!!! MAGIC TRIUMPHS HIT MY KINDLE LAST NIGHT! It’s the last of the series so expect me to be totally crying because I can’t have their story anymore. lol Not due to the book, but because I don’t want the series to ever end.
I do need to try the K.A. Tucker one. Thanks Maryse for the reminder. But I know it’s emotional, so I have been waiting to be in that kind of mood. Maybe I need to BR it?? I also have Kiss Quotient on Hoopla so that is an option. Sometimes when I am slumpish an audiobook is better than ebook.
My prob lately is that the books don’t start bad. (I only had one dnf) They actually start good but get boring or long winded after 50%. For the love of all that is holy…if you can tell a story in less words, please do so. We don’t need pages and pages of inner ramblings or MC’s repeating same things!!!
Bev, you make me laugh!!! As much as I wish I had something to binge watch, I can’t do subtitles.
*sticks out tongue at Tessa*
Show off!!!
😉
lol Can’t help it. I knew August would be good. All sorts of my goodies came out this month for me.
Good morning ladies!

The Edge of Never by JA Redmerski is on sale for 1.99!! GAH!!! I absolutely LOVED that book!
Best Kept Secret by Amy Hatvany is on sale for .99, down from 11.99! I’m a sucker for an h whose life is spiraling out of control.
Great deal finds Amy!!!! Now I’m going to look two of ’em up right now. 😉
Okay yeah I TOTALLY just one-clicked Best Kept Secret by Amy Hatvany. YAY ME!!!
Annnnnd Accidents of Marriage too. MINE!!! WOWWWWWW!!!!
Leslie, I listened to The Kiss Quotient on audio – – I thought it was very good. Give it a try!
Marsye – Story of Us is on sale
I started Ghosted last night and am loving it so far. 🙂
Ghosted is pure excellence JR!!!!!!!
I read The Kiss Quotient. I liked it, didn’t love it. For me, it was slow after the beginning and dragged quite a bit. And all the sex was so drawn out. With good reason and written really well, but I’m a less is more kinda girl now. And there was so much of it.
I’m reading Sophie Kinsella’s Wedding Night now, it’s a library read. I’m finally into a book and of course, have no time to sit and read it.
Thx Maryse for the recommendation of My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan. I absolutely loved it!
My absolute pleasure Kathe!!! I’m glad you loved it too. Amazingness!!! <3 😀
I have another deal for us! Accidents of Marriage by Randy Susan Meyers is on sale for .99, down from 11.99!! And MAN, does it sound intense. 😀 CLICK!!!!
JR…I’m assuming you mean the one by JM Darhower? Holy freaking moly, I LOVED that one! It was perfect in every way.
If all new releases were put on hold for 3 months. Nothing new from now until December 1st, which 5-10 books that you already own would you play catch up on? I’m cooking so I haven’t put much thought into it yet.
Okay I’m backing through the comments… are we building our new TBR lists? Is that what these lists are? I gotta do mine, too.
Okay I’m going to make this a post this week (Tasha’s “If all new releases were put on hold for 3 months. Nothing new from now until December 1st, which 5-10 books that you already own would you play catch up on?“)
THIS is great you guys!! I’ll post mine too. I already made the list. 😀
Ok Tasha, I will play. (Are you channeling your inner Bev?)
Neighbors – Stylo Fantome
Love in Rewind – Tali Alexander
The Simple Wild – K.A. Tucker
The Upside of Falling – Meghan Quinn
That Guy – Kim Jones
Perfect Love Story – Natasha Madison
Speakeasy – Sarina Bowen
Waking Olivia – Elizabeth O’Rourke

My problem is, most of these are paperbacks so I’d have to be super into them to keep from DNF’ing!
The Bronze Horseman – Paullina Simons
Queens of Geek – Jen Wilde
The Man in the Black Suit – Sylvain Reynard
The Hating Game – Sally Thorne
Try – Ella Frank
After the Rain – Renee Carlino
Midnight Lily – Mia Sheridan
The Promise of Stardust – Priscille Sibley
Room – Emma Donoghue
On Writing – Stephen King
3 months to read 5-10 used to be such an easy feat. But let’s see.
Either glom a series like the Kate Daniels or Anna & Charles one.
But individual books would probably be:
1. Scandalized by Tara Frejas. She works in the world of kpop.
2. Goody Two Shoes by Janet Elizabeth Henderson. A MichelleS rec.
3. Pas De Deux by Lynn Turner. A ballerina heroine.
4. Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse. A new UF series.
5. By the Book by Julia Sonneborn. I love Persuasion.
6. Object of Desire by Dal Maclean. I loved her first book.
7. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I loved a prior book and Tessa loved this.
8. Ghosted by JM Darhower. Cause everyone on here recs it.
9. Abroad by Liz Jacob’s. A review made me think, ” I have to buy it and read it right now!” And I never did.
10. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. A Christmas present from Nay and it sounds dreamy.
Everyone should channel their inner bev and watch A Hundred Million Stars Falling From the Sky.
How FUN would it be to watch it TOGETHER with CHATS and LICORICE and I’m typing this very DRAMATICALLY and PIM agrees with this but she wants COOKIES and AMY could make a themed DRINK every week and R could get MANNY drunk and it would keep TESSA occupied so she doesn’t STREAK and JASPER is up anyway and just say YES.
I wanna say yes, bev!! Can I work on my review of “Bring Down the Stars” while we watch a million stars falling? See what I did there?
Also, I want black licorice please. Oh shoot. I don’t think I’m allowed licorice on Keto.
*sigh*
LOL bev!!!!! That was great! And yes, EVERYONE should channel their inner bev. Inner bevs keep life interesting. 😉
The Promise of Stardust….that was an emotional one. But so good. Nice pick, R.
Lol, I suppose so. My brain wanders constantly and I was thinking (as I was browning my meat) that I was so overwhelmed with all the books I wanted to read coming out soon or now or just in the last few weeks and THEN thinking my gosh, but I’d really like to tackle (yada, yada, yada) first and wouldn’t it be nice if the book world would pause for just a little while so I can catch up and not miss anything spectacular? And it’s fun to read all of yours. I screenshot so I don’t miss any goodies and while I read it’s yes! yes! yes, that 1! Oooh, that sounds good! Oh, I forgot that one, that too! 😛
Jasper has actually *cough* *mumbles* been sleeping through the night, like a looong time *cough* *pounds on wood* for a while now. Except last night, but that’s cuz his last bottle was at 6, but he slept till 3am and back at 4 and I woke him up at 7:30.
Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Majia
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Bachman
The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas
The Mason List by S.D. Hendrickson
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman
The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown
We Never Asked for Wings by Venessa Diffenbaugh
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
And yet inner bev’s bev leads a very ordinary life, lol.
The Boys in the Boat sounds good. Have you ever read Laura Hillenbrand?
Leslie, I’m not familiar with Hoopla. Is Hoopla like Overdrive? Do you have the app on your phone? I’ve been listening to books more and looking for options to not buying them. Have found there are many on the Kindle Unlimited “books with Narration.”
I started reading Payback’s a Bitch last night. I have read another in the series- Too Much Information; funny and I always enjoy a medical H/H if it’s as long as the medical aspect is fairly accurate.
I have not, but upon looking her up, I believe there are some movies made from her books that I’ve seen….so I can’t read em. Lol
Tasha they are so good and much better than the movies. Plus, non fiction so much more than what’s in the movies.
Only two books but she is probably an auto buy/read for me.
Tasha, I was just thinking of you, I had this lady come in to work and she had 3 children with her including a new baby that was 7 weeks old. And as you do I said “is that your 3rd child and she said no, it’s my 9th”. And I nearly died she said she had 7 girls and 2 boys. I couldn’t think of anything worse. I asked if she ever got any sleep? She said not much.
But in Australia the government benefits are soo good. Sometimes they have children for the extra money. She was probably getting $1800 in benefits alone per fortnight for all those kids if not more. So lucky you are getting some sleep, makes you feel human.
Any way I have just finished the unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton and it was a struggle. Banging and banging and more banging. In the bed against the wall the shower the cupboard, anywhere. And I don’t mind that, but this was over the top and lacking in the story department and to be honest I think I would rather work or do housework than read this book. So that’s saying something.
Not sure if this was already said, but Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey is 0.99.
I still need to read that one Cheryl. I love Tessa Bailey so I have no idea why I haven’t read it considering how many here loved it.
Your government pays you to have kids?? I wouldn’t do it for the money. No sirrre. I need my sanity at some point and 3 is it for me. Hahaha
I have a step aunt who has 12. A few are twins. All like a year or 2 apart. They’re catholic, a very well behaved lot and they’re parents were made for it. Imagine when they all start driving or college even. They’re very frugal too and amazingly creative, but definitely not for everyone.
I’ll have to start following her to see what she writes next, Bev. I don’t doubt they’re fantastic, but once I’ve seen the movie, it’s impossible for me to get into the book. The Boys in the Boat was one of those big Christmas sales kindle has and I snagged it bc it sounded good and has great reviews, but I haven’t even attempted to read it yet and I think that was 2 years ago? 3?
Read the Kiss Quotient. Loved it!!
Does anyone ever get book paralysis? I finished my last book 3 days ago and just couldn’t decide what I wanted to read next. I mean if you looked at my Kindle, it would be so embarrassing of the number of really good books that have been sitting in it collecting dust. But I just looked at my library, and they have the ebook available of the new K.A. Tucker book, The Simple Wild. And I am sold. I was starting to have the sweats not having a book to read:)
Bev, Strange the Dreamer was so good and so enchanting. 🙂 I’m mentioning that one because it’s rarely mentioned here, and I just enjoyed it so much.
1. Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. (Why haven’t I read this yet?)
2. Maximum Rude y James Patterson
3. Edge of Destiny by J Robert King
4. The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
5. Gods and Fighting Men by Lady Gregory (It’s a book of the original myths from Ireland)
6. Empire of Storm by Sarah J Maas
7. King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
8. The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter
It seems a lot of us are in a slump. I always recommend Hawthorne and Heathcliff by R. K. Ryals. I read it a few years ago. It’s one of those books you wonder why you didn’t read it sooner.
Thank you Kandace!!That looks so good. It is only $.99 on Kindle.
ha ha ha Tessa. I love your typo Maximum RUDE by James patterson. Or is that a new one of his???? LOL.
Cheryl, Hoopla IS like Overdrive. It has a good selection of audiobooks and what’s great is there is no waiting list. You get “x” amount of borrows per month (my library allows 10) and can borrow them for 3 weeks. You should see if your library has it or if anywhere in your state does. My local library didn’t used to have it but because I am a Massachusetts resident, I could access it through Boston’s library.
That’s so cool, Leslie!!!
My sleep is so bad right now.
Why?
Why am I up at 3am?
This is not ok.
bev… do you have a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep?
Melinda, I loved The Unidentified Redhead when I read it 6 yrs ago. But I suspect if I read it today, not so much. 🙁
Grey, sprinkle some sleep glitter on Bev to help with her insomnia please.
That would be nice. Of course now that I have to start getting ready for my day I feel like I could fall right to sleep, lol.
Leslie, I’m confused. Hoopla is thru your library, not an app for your phone?
Leslie, I called my library and got the info. I can borrow 5 books/month! Thanks for the info! 😉
*Tosses sleep dust* oops, probably not a good idea at 1pm EST. Although, my sleep dust is probably defective, I’m the resident insomniac around here. I have to take sleepy meds all the time d/t past shift work and crazy circadian rhythm, I’ll never be right again, I’m afraid, LOL. It’s all good though. More time to read? Bad joke, I get it…insomnia is irritating as all get out.
I’ve had a day already… I want to crawl in bed and hide. Why do you only see people when you’re not looking your best? seriously, this morning…after an already bad start… I was just in a hoodie and yoga pants because I was in the car and not planning to do anything, one of the hot dads pulls up next to me at the carpool pickup for sports and wants to chat. Gah, FML. I mean, I’m a married woman, but still… it’s nice to look nice, and not feel like a lazy slob…which obviously I was this morning, hahahah!
Yay Cheryl! Sorry I wasn’t too clear at first. But I am glad your library offers it.
For those who might still be wondering, Hoopla is a service offered by some libraries where you can borrow ebooks, audiobooks, etc. without a waitlist. To use it, you will need to install the app on your phone/tablet. Not sure if its available outside the US.
I have never purchased an audiobook and its not necessary between Hoopla’s and Overdrive’s selections.
Leslie, I’m checking it out now. Would you say Hoopla is better for audio than e-books? I’m finding lots of audio books I’d be interested in but no e-books. Wondering if I’m searching wrong.

Geez… I’m gonna have to really think on this 10 books business, I could make a dissertation, you know? Is this based on covers, (plethora or lack thereof of glitter?? *giggle*) Hmm… And I already have to own them??
*Clears throat* Ok, I’ll have you know, I’ve been working on this list for the better part of 3 hours. *Sets off glitter cannon*

*whew* I’m exhausted by all that. I think it’s time for Godiva and Moscato…
Too funny. I thought it was blood splatter on the cover of Ten Reasons to Stay. Think I’ve been listening to too many podcasts about serial killers and hearing about Forensics from my daughter!! :>
Grabs some Godiva and Moscato from Grey. Thanks!
R, yes for me Hoopla is only good for romance audio books. The ebook selection is not my taste. I always use my monthly borrows on audios.
R. On my iPad I downloaded Libby. I haven’t used it much because I’m not reading fast. Sometimes there is long waits, but not a bad selection.
I started on my hoopla soap box because Cheryl was talking about audiobooks and thats how I get mine for free!
Thanks! bev, I was just told about Libby today. My problem had been that I refuse to physically go to my local library to get a card (I have high standards for my laziness) but because of something Leslie said (I think) I did a search online and found libraries that didn’t require that.
Yes, Maryse. YES. You SHOULD. It doesn’t start until next month. Think how FUN it could be. And only for like 8 weeks…that’s nothing. Well, if its good. If it sucks…..
Yup R, I was able to get a Boston Public Library card all on line!! No way would I drive out there. Boston traffic scares the heck out of me.
I had to join the fave list party. Here’s my favorite books of this year.
1. Ride by Harper Dallas
2. Reckoning by Jessica Ruben
3. Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
4. Long Shot Kennedy Ryan
5. Of Love and Madness series by Karen Cimms
6. The Smallest Part by Amy Harmon
7. Lessons in Corruption by Giana Darling
8. Look the Part by Jewel E Ann
9. The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score
10. Mists of Serengeti by Leylah Attar
11. Collecting The Pieces by LA Fiore
Someone recommended Binding 13. Sloooooooow burn and a cliffhanger!!!! I’m dying. I loved it. Damaged h. Thx for recommending!!!!
Good morning! They’re putting down my fabulous new wood floors this week, and I’m finally taking a break from moving stuff and throwing away CRAP (35 huge construction trash bags so far) to check in.
Waylon (my new grandbaby) is doing great, but we haven’t had time to go see him since Friday because we had so much to do around here.
Now I’m going to work on my catch-up reading list because my only muscles that aren’t sore are in my fingers. I didn’t realize how physically draining it would be to rearrange my entire house.
Oh, and I’m also in a semi slump. I keep starting books and not being able to get past the first chapter or two. I’m hoping it’s just because I have so much going on.
Warcross by Marie Lu is on sale for 2.99
‘If We Leap’, the the prequel novella to Nina Lane’s ‘What If’ duet is free right now, and the first book of the duet, ‘If We Fall’, came out today.
I loved her Spiral of Bliss series with the sexy Professor Dean West!
FLT I’m cheating because technically I’m not supposed to start this until tomorrow but I can’t stand it so I’ve been sneaking peeks! This is one guy’s honest, endearing, and (from what I hear), cringe-worthy account of his dating life. We’re doing a huge buddy read in my FB group “tomorrow” if anyone wants to join! And instead of posting the first line, I’m going with the dedication because it’s giving me all kinds of feels!!
To Jessica: The only one that could torment me into not only writing a book, but baring the worst of me for all to see. The world can judge as it pleases, only you need know me. And you did, once.
Greg Archer, Fifty Shades of Greg
You guys!! Read this with me!! Maryseeeee!
That sounds good, R!
I’m stuck garage sale-ing. It’s the worst. 3ish hours left. And Js been back on his bottle strike. I had about a week of good ones and now it’s a toss up. I’m back on Everything You Want Me to Be since I finished Wedding Date late last night.
FLT- “RUNNING AWAY sucked.” Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Majia
*tackle-hugs Tasha*
I’m so excited you’re finally reading it, Tasha!! 😀
No FLT for me yet. I finished the one which was p!ssing me off the other day (it was tough, but I did it), so now I need a palette cleanser. A MILD one that’s not going to upset me. 😕
I read Love Online by Penelope Ward and loved it! It totally sucked me in. I read Wait With Me by Amy Daws (it was perfect because I read it while I was waiting during my mom’s surgery). And I just finished 10 Reasons to Stay by Candace Knoebel and it was so good!!! It says that it’s a duet but it’s a standalone. (Which I was relieved about!) I think the second book must be about another couple. It had a Roya Carmen feel and I love her books so it was perfect.
FLT:
“Because women are not frickin’ groomsmen!”
The Wedding From Hell, Part 1: The Rehearsal Dinner by J.R. Ward
FLT:
“No.” I cross my arms over my chest. “Sorry, but it’s not happening.”
Payback’s A Bitch by Missy Johnson. Should finish this one tonight. Not sure what I’m reading next, but I have my kindle charging. We leave for vacation tomorrow and the house we’re staying in doesn’t have wifi. Have a great labor day weekend and I’ll check in monday night when we get home.
Is it wrong that I haven’t told my kids about the wifi?! Lol.
Oh no, Cheryl! How will you survive? How will your kids survive? lol
Have fun on vacation!
