Suckers
Finally first!!!
YAY MichelleS!!!!! π
Truly, Madky Whiskey – friends to lovers! Love that
Maryse we have to talk.
I bought a book many years ago based on your and all these ladies rec.
A little book called Thoughtless.
I figured I might get mad at Kiera.
But everyone says, Oooh Kellan. He’s dreamy.
No, he is James Spader from Pretty in Pink.
I want to kick him. He’d run and hide.
Grr.
Also, why is there no dialogue in this book? None.
I’m raising my eyebrow at all of you.
Grr. Seriously. I have to take a mental health day away from this book.
LOL bev!!!! Did you finish it yet???
My friend just showed me this cool site! I just wonder how they pick the books?
https://www.onceuponabookclub.com
bev!!!!!!!!! bahahahahahahahahhahahha π
I think Thoughtless is one of those books that if I read it now I would totally agree with you but sine it was one of those first of firsts for us all.
Never mind about that site I posted….it’s freaking expensive!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus we already have a community to discuss books.
Ela, there are a few of those now. My favorite is Colleen Hoover’s Bookworm Box https://www.thebookwormbox.com/ because all the items are donated and all proceeds go to charity. I just won one on FB last month, no idea how, I guess I just share their posts all the time. It was so cool! That’s how I ended up with Love in Rewind and The Virgin Romance Novelist, both signed. I also got a ton of cool swag! The other popular one is the Romance Reveal Book Box. https://www.revealbookbox.com/
I waited up until midnight for this one that released today.
At Attention (Out of Uniform, #2) by Annabeth Albert
The first one in the series was so good that I can’t wait to get into this next one. They do read as stand-alones.
I replied to you Ela on the box but got stuck in moderation. π It’ll come through soon I’m sure! Maybe.
That’s way cool Robin!!!!
bev…it’s Kellan. There is no need for dialogue.
His body does all the talking.
And that’s totally enough for me.
Kellan can talk to me in his way any time.
Besides, “verbal” talking is overrated.
At least in this case.
*props chin in hand*
*sighs*
*stares dreamily into space*
Okay, the whole beard thing *shudder* in The Opposite of You is forgiven after RH threw in lines about poutine
CRAP!!! I accidentally hit submit.
ANYways, continuing on…
…lines about poutine (remember Maryse making us drool over that one time) and about Vera wanting to punch herself in the ovaries. Either RH visits here and sees our conversations or she thinks like us and needs to be part of our tribe. π
AMY!!! POUTINE!!!!!!!!!
My favorite food ever. I used to eat at least one a day when I was in college…
I miss my young metabolism. π
I remember!! And I was just DROOLING over poutine when you told us about it. And then RH mentions it in TOOY and I was all, “That’s a Maryse thing!!”
Well, a Canadian things but still…I heard about it first from you so it’s a “you” thing. *snort*
I miss my young metabolism, too. My A$$ misses my young metabolism. My CLOTHES which fit me 5 months ago miss my young metabolism. It’s just way too easy for me to put on weight right now. *sigh*
I am with Ela on Thoughtless…I just can’t. I had to put it to the side, and now I am glaring at it every time I open my Kindle. I very easily swoon…I can forgive just about ANYTHING with my hero (see Tony is Consequence). I don’t yet see anything swoony about Kellan. Maybe I haven’t hit the delicious parts yet by 41%??? Kiera just makes me so angry, and it’s either Kiera blushing or Kellan smirking/laughing pretty much every page. I will eventually go back and finish, because I hate to DNF books…but I need some mind bleach and apparently a better frame of mind!
Alright, I have to say Gangster looks good. Super good. π
Why am I still reading this series? It’s not written well, and it gets slow, but darn if I’m not invested. I finally have Etched in Bone and Dirty, Filthy, Rich Men, but do you think I’m reading one of those? NOOOO. I’m reading this series that is so confusing with the editing, but the story is just too good to resist. *slams head down* DARN IT ALL!
I get it, Tessa.
Sometimes I have these books staring at me which I KNOW are going to be amazing (usually because of the author or because hey are Rex’s from here) and yet I will randomly open another book and get completely addicted to it despite the fact it is not well written or it is OTT or just plain ridiculous and I KNOW I could never rec it because y’all would look at me like WTAF is this crap and yet…I can’t put it down.
I feel ya, my friend. *slings arm around Tessa’s shoulders*
“hey are Rexβs” <——- WTH???
*THEY ARE RECS
Rex is a big stupid bully dinosaur.
WTAF???
Never mind….Goggle answered π π
Recs = Rex… phonetically… you using speech to text?
Nope, not using speech to text. That’s what makes it so embarrassing. π
Whoops – I meant I’m with bev on Thoughtless. If I was with ELA I’d have used way more punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TOOY should have a sequel: “The Beard and its Journeys”
Kiss Kiss Lisa! I’m not sure if I hate or love the Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop, and yes I’m only on book 4 and YES I READ SPOILERS AFTER BEV POINTED OUT BOOK NINE HAS SOME CONTROVERSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right Amy? I can’t even give it too low stars because obviously I’m liking this weird book… I think?
You know, I haven’t re-read Thoughtless. I read it years ago, and I remember the story, but I don’t know if the writing is like everyone is saying, I’d love it. Glad I read it then, because book three was so swoony. Also, the video making scene. And right before the hospital scene, and that special scene in the hospital. *grins* Then again, I’m reading a badly written series and can’t stop, so what do I know?
No, I’m taking a break today.
Kellan is one of the worst heroes I’ve ever read.
He is such a sleazy bro.
He’s all, Yeah Denny is my bro and all but dude she let’s me touch her boobs. Hahaha.
Kyra: yeah I do cause then I don’t think cause, um,………thinking is hard. Thoughts make ….cry.
Kella, hahaha. I’m going to sing along to the radio be all sexy. Ha ha ha
Kiera …………*blush*
Kellan, hahaha…..
ROFL That was awesome!
Anyone who wants to try the Alpha Omega series by Patricia Briggs, the first book, (not prologue book) is on sale 2.99 down from 7.99.
Bev, are you secretly one of the writers for SNL?? You claim not be Max Monroe, but you write some funny parodies. π
You know, I don’t always take to kindly to dissing my Kellan…but even I find humor in that post.
Hilarious!!!
Question for anyone with Kindle Unlimited. I signed up for this month only and want to consume as many good books as possible. Any recs for must reads on KU?
Leslie–just search. There are TONS of great KU books! If I see any specific, I’ll let you know.
Leslie–look at my ‘free with KU’ shelf on GR. I just started adding to it, so there aren’t a ton, but a lot of times, if an author has one book free, they’ll have most (or sometimes all) of their other books free with KU as well.
Leslie you switched The Butterfly Project for Unbreakable, but all of her books are on there if you still want to read that one.
I did do a KU search and it was pretty overwhelming, I found a few prospects, but didnt know if anyone had a MUST READ rec. I actually signed up for it to read Opposite of You. (I figured why spend $5 on just that book when I can spend $10 and have KU for the month?) Right now I’m doing Butterfly Project. (R, I already have Unbreakable & Love Beyond Words)
Nay, I’ll check out your shelf, Thanks!
Leslie, Every Wrong Reason & The Five Stages of Falling in Love by Rachel Higginson (I liked EWR better, but I think most people like 5S better) and all of Brittainy Cherry’s are on there.
And that pretty much exhausts my book list! Not many of the books I read are on there!
I’m reading good old fashioned PNR (Claimed, Nightwing Pack Book 1). LOL. Needed some growly Alpha type werewolf who saves the damsel in distress and that damned mating heat makes him nuts. You know the story. But sometimes I need to not THINK too much and just go with the old stand-bys. I had big hopes because this one is coauthored by Kele Moon, and Iloved her other Werewolf book – you know the one that disappeared from Amazon and she didn’t continue the series!!!!! I was so upset. But this isn’t quite up to that standard.
I must have had low standards in 2011 because I gave all of the Thoughtless books 4 stars. Now my Contemporary taste and reviews are much much more critical. There’s just so much out there. Back then I wasn’t too picky. And they used to be so cheap too. remember?
bev and Lisa A, let’s make our own little ‘can’t read Thoughtless’ support group. I’ve tried about three times now cos of all the talk and love out there. But I just CAN’T! Kiera is confused and immature and yeah, that constant blushing thing is annoying. Kellan just hasn’t really grabbed me yet. He’s cute, but I just can’t see what all the fuss is about…… OK, I’ve only read 20%, but bev and Lisa are saying it doesn’t get any better……. Ela, wanna join our group? (Wasn’t it you who hates Kiera?)
I’ve started reading Twist today (books arrive earlier in Aiustralia) *thumbs nose at sad non-Australian bloggers* and I’ve only read a few pages, but guess what? The H has got a BEARD!!!!!!!! Bwahahahaha.
Leslie, Here are some authors that are currently on KU. Some have all of their books on KU while some have a few. Hope this helps. KU has saved me money but it is frustrating as books will go on and off KU.
Marina Zapata
Karina Halle (selected books)
Adriana Locke (Landry Family, Sacrifice), etc. Love her books.
Becca Jameson (Fight Club) Just binged read the last three in the series
Emma Scott
R..S. Grey (Scoring Willder, etc)
Kim Holden (Bright Side, Gus, Franco)
Joe Hart (Dominion Triology)
Jade West (Bang Gang). Haven’t read it but a few have liked it
Ilsa Madden (Briarwood Academy, Dirty English, etc)
A.S. Teague (Undisputed Series). Someone on this site recommended the first book and it was really good!! Read the rest of the series.
Ella Frank
Rachel Van Dyken (selected books)
Aly Martinez (Wrecked and Ruined Series)
Bella Jewel
Devin McCormack/Riley Hart (M/M)
Oooh, good idea R.!! I love the covers for Brittany Cherry…that wet t-shirt one!
Hubba hubba. π
Kathy P – YOU ARE THE BEST!!! Many thanks. π
*runs to fill up my 10 KU reads*
The Just Like That cover (up there at the top) is a bit weird. I mean, sure, it might happen as part of a scene in the book, but biting his ear on the COVER? Really? I think not. It wouldn’t make me pick it up in a bookshop. If I thought anyone was looking I’d probably blush and head for another shelf. (I know, I’m pretty lame like that).
Me after finishing the last page of The Opposite of You:
*twirls around while giggling with head back*
*sighs dreamily and falls back on fainting couch*
Then I read the prologue and first chapter of Every Wrong Reason at the end of TOOY:

DAMMIT!!!!
THAT BOOK!!!!!!!!
That to me, is a re-read book, Amy (for me…). I LOVED it.
Need to take a screen shot of that KU list up there! I joined last month & so far so good!
Amy – I hate when someone mentions a book, like Every Wrong Reason, and I excitedly run to Amazon to check it out. Blurb sounds good. Then I scroll down and the three reviews that show up first are all 1-3 stars!!! I usually just walk away. Anyone else get turned off by those first reviews?
KA Linde’s Record series is also KU.
Michelle, I do! It drives me nuts to the point that now, I don’t read any reviews at all. I loved Every Wrong Reason more than The Opposite of You.
Hey ladies
Help?!
Struggling to choose which of these books to read first? Hausfrau, Mist of Serengeti or Exaltation of Larks. I’m well behind on what everyone has been reading on here so decided to do a 5* catch up and need a helping hand on where to start
*thud*
Lauren, just close your eyes and point.
I get turned off by reviews all the time. Whether its all 5 star ones that seem totally fake or a bunch of negative ones on something that sounds good. I’ve been trying to avoid them lately.
I only read reviews after I read the book. I try to avoid ratings too, but that’s not so easy!
I ditto R
Well I used to read them before I chose a book to see if it would be my cuppa. But that seemed to backfire on me. π
I like when a book bud has read before me and I can ask them questions. That helps. I need to avoid death books and non-heas.
*grabs Hausfrau and pushes it into Lauren’s arms*
HAUSFRAU!!!!!!!!!
Or…
Or…
*pushes Serengeti into Lauren’s arms*
MISTS OF THE SERENGETI!!!!!
But I’m biased…I haven’t read Larks so I don’t have input on that one. π
Fine I was trying to stay impartial but Amy blew that all to heck LARKSSSSSS!
MichelleS…I know, that IS frustrating. I glance at the stars sometimes but for the most part I avoid reviews. I hate accidentally seeing spoilers, whether intentional or not, and I might check out reviews AFTER I’ve read it (like R) but for the most part I stick to opinions from here or I just take a blind leap of faith and dive in.
But…spoilers can be awesome, right Grey???
Guess who shot off her big mouth today? *looks down and whistles*
Ok Lauren, I haven’t read any of them, so no bias here.
I am however familiar with them all as the ladies squee pretty loud. π
I think that Hasfrau sounds the most intriguing.
*giggle* I guess the more important question, do you already own these books? Second question, do you have a book buying restriction in place, that would prevent you from buying any particular books?
I haven’t read Hausfrau yet, it is on my TBR list. Mists was a 5 star for me, and Larks was almost a 5 star. So for me personally, I’d pick Mists.
They really are all must reads, just depends what you’re in the mood for.
And Leslie, you can totally read Mists!!
What does impartial mean?
*snort*
And I know, Maryse. I know y’all loved it and all but…I just need to be in the right frame of mind so I don’t end up NOT liking it simply because I’m not in the right mood, ya know?
Like how putting off reading The Opposite of You until this past weekend was SO the right thing to do. π
LOL, Poor R. She spoiled something major on me today and feels bad about it π if she hasn’t brought it back up, I probably would have forgotten all about it and attributed it to my medication induced nap.
Bring what up? I didn’t bring anything up. Nope we’re good here!
No restrictions.
What’s going to give me the most feels? Need something to kick me up the butt and out of my current book slump. More angst the better..
I’m thinking you need to start with Mists. But you HAVE to read the other two later!
Lauren these are the ladies who love Thoughtless……I’d question any book rec.
I am seriously holding a grudge about this.
Forever.
Forever ever.
Mists gave me actual physical feels. It physically hurt me before it smushed me back together.
*holds up hand* um…I was the first one questioning everyone’s Thoughtless love…
What book did you spoil R?
Reckless Abandon by Jeannine Colette :-/
I would have bet my poodle she’d already read it!
Actually, I’m changing my mind. If you want something that is going to angst you… Go with Larks
Oh and potentially the one we’re both beta reading right now.
Amy up there swooning over Kellan. Yeah, Boy Next Door…..not happening. She has no cred anymore.
Not me bev, I for certain, did not tell you to read Thoughtless… Lol!
She did say though that she wanted a kick up the butt.
As much as Serengeti tore me up (in a beautifully painful way), Hausfrau kicked my butt, gut, heart, chest, and every other vital organ.
Lauren…romance or no? Serengeti if you want romance, Hausfrau if you don’t.
Yes, Larks is def the angstiest of the three too. Hausfrau I didn’t think it was too angsty. It was more OMG WTF jaw dropping.
Its all good in the hood R, you’re just going to have to bring me some excellent swag from RT to make up for it. *giggle*
Larks is in the middle romance wise. It has big romance, but it’s more than that, while Mists IS a romance and Hausfrau isn’t.
Done!
I will swoon over Kellan until the day I leave this earth.
It may be like how you remember the one who got away (only the good and none of the negative) but I don’t care…I will continue to SWOOOOOOOON!!!!
Thoughtless – one of my favorites. I would cougar Kellan any time! I can read that book over and over and over.
Speaking of do-overs, up until a few years ago, every year when a new BDB book would out, I did a reread of the ENTIRE series. Yep – I just could get enough. I have probably read Dark Loved no less than 10 times. Sucked right in! I had to stop because – those BDB books are long and it got a little obsessive. That’s how I met Kellan – I needed something new (and that didn’t help – I’ve read Thoughtless at least 6 times). Well this year, I read The Chosen (loved it!!!) and what and I doing now? Another reread. But just starting back at Lover Mine. I am so hopeless – wait – that’s another reread! Help, Help, Help!
Haha I loved thoughtless. *high fives Amy* Kellan was one of first book loves
*crickets* we’ve probably scared the poor girl off forever with all you guys bickering!
*painstakingly gets to my feet and smacks the nearest object to make a loud noise* “This is why we can’t have nice things!” (Read – new people – popping in on the blog…because we scare the s**t out of them) *giggle*
Let’s play a game! bev?? 3 things or something new tonight?
That’s how we test them, Grey. If our incessant bickering scares them off what do you think Amy’s cocktails would do? And Lauren’s still here! Amy make her a drink.
He is licking his best friend’s gf literally behind his friends back. Denny just pouring cofee in the kitchen and they are making out until he turns his back.
I can’t. I just can’t.
And it is poorly written.
No DIALOGUE. Non.
I can’t help it Grey. This always happens when I get my expectations up. I get so ranty when the book doesn’t live up to the praise.
It has happened before and I almost wrote a bad review on Amazon.
This time I’m going to write it on GR, unless it turns around, in big bold letters.
I’ve been a lurker for years, feel like I know you all. If you guys have swooned over a book I’ve probably read it
bev breathe. And pick a game. Something calming.
Where are you from Lauren?
*mixes up Midori martini for Lauren*
Cambridge in England. Any other Brits on here?
You know my first thought is 3 ways to kill Kellan Kyle.
Guess that’s too much?
My minds a bit blank.
How about 3 things + 3 things about a recent book you loved?
I have a feeling Lauren is a Marmy and a member of the death club.
I doubt I scare her.
Thanks Amy * gulps it down in one*
Us Brits do like a drink
Haha death club? What’s that?
Just Paula right? And fake Bev, but she’son GR. We have a few Aussies.
I’ll take one please Amy!
Hmmm… let me think of a book I read that wasn’t part of a BR.
Confess by CoHo
1. I LOVED Owen and I really love the guy cast to play Owen.
2. I really liked Auburn, but no thanks on the actress cast to play her.
3. I spent thirty minutes yesterday trying to decide which print from the book I want to buy, then decided I don’t have room for one.
Lauren, death club is the group on here that’s fine with MC’s dying in books. I’m not a member even though it may seem so at times. I am a Marmy. Mostly.
Like brightside or Me before you?
If so then yeah I’m part of that gang.
You can rant all you want to… You can rant your hurt away. (Yes. Yes I am singing these words to the tune of the Safety Dance right now)
Ok. 3 things-
1) I have a drs appt tomorrow and I can’t bend over to shave my legs.
2) medicine induced naps are not very restful
3) my mommy brought me raspberry sherbet today because she knows that my stomach usually doesn’t tolerate medicine very well, and I will live on sherbet and club crackers.
3 things about a recent book I loved
1) it was a new to me author
2) I owe it all to you guys, because I never would have been exposed to this writer, if not for you all!
3) I kept this so cryptic you all have no idea what I’m talking about hahaha!
1. I LOVE marshmallows and marshmallow type confections.
2. If someone gets the giggles it will sometimes set me off too. To where I have tears running and can’t catch my breath.
3. I ordered a Fairy Loot box. I will get it next month. It is a YA book and some other stuff.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
1. It is beautifully written. This is craft.
2. Gorgeous cover and actually has something to do with the story.
3. I took a walk every day for a week just to be in this world. The amazing narration just added another layer of wonder.
I didn’t know it was supposed to be a secret! Dang it!
3 me things (didn’t see that one!)
1. I have the house to myself for 40 more hours!
2. I’m currently obsessed with this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgRpB9t0p8Q
3. The new Dirty Dancing is depressing the heck out of me.
1. My house smells like an italian kitchen. (Cooked sauce all day)
2. My favorite nail polish is OPI Strawberry Margarita.
3. I never paint my fingernails, just my toes.
Infidelity Series by Aleatha Romig
1. It was hard to put down and exciting.
2. One of the twists was jaw dropping
3. Fun BR with my ho bag sistah Ela. π
OMG LESLIE!!!!
TOES ONLY for me too!!!!!!
1. Just got home from work
2. Dinner is frozen pizza
3. FML
1. I don’t like romance novels with older MCs
2. I don’t like children in my romance novels.
3. I loved the last book I read which had both, older MCs and children.
Bonfires by Amy Lane
***It’s all about the writing my friends. ALL about the writing.
Ok, I have to DNF. There is no way I can finish this book. I just can’t.
1. I made little dude chicken nuggets and french fries for dinner.
2. It’s spring break.
3. Fuji apple chicken salad from Panera Bread is really good. I had it for lunch yesterday and I want more.
Franco by Kim Holden:
1. It had me laughing a lot.
2. If you read Bright Side, you will get a little emotional in spots, but if not, no worries.
3. The author calls her son little dude! Isn’t that awesome? *happy dance* And her husband Big Dude. *grins*
bev!!! I just finished Promises by Marie Sexton and it was sooooo good. Thank you so much for loaning it to me! I owe you! Twice now.
Yay!! I have to move that one up. Though i think the next mm i try will be Whiteout by Springer.
Well you read one of my faves from last year and hated it. And are going to take a chance on another that you’re pretty sure you are not going to like. I think we are even. *snort*
Strawberries was last year for you?
Oh, you’re going to love Whiteout!!!
Now I’m diving into At Attention. If Promises hadn’t been a five star I probably would have squirreled last night when AA hit my Kindle at midnight.
No, year before. I can’t believe we are already in Spring of 2017.
It sounds fun. I have a few amnesia books in the tbr. I should do a theme glom, lol.
That looks good, Fabi. I think I’ve read a novella of hers. Hope it’s a good one.
I hope Lauren comes back and tells us what she picked. Bickering over other people’s book choices won’t be nearly as much fun if we don’t get to stalk them while they’re reading!
Whoa.
The Upside of Unrequited! !! I absolutely forgot I had pre ordered this.
I got Debra Dunbar’s Northern Light. Yeah, another imp novel. Now, back to my regularly scheduled why am I reading this series that is at this point super interesting, (And the editing isn’t near as bad as the first two).
Tessa–I started listening to the audiobooks of that series and really enjoyed the first one, and then, something happened with the 2nd one and I really disliked it. Since she’s an imp, I expect some campiness, but it seems like it was over-the-top campy, moving into silly territory (if I remember correctly??)
Do you think the Imp series campy and/or silly or is it just me? I always see it and wonder if I shouldn’t give it another chance because I love the blurbs!
OMG…this was SO good…had all the feels! π
