I am looking for a highlander romance i read sometime back.
Highlander hero travels with heroine after an arranged marriage from her castle to his. Journey takes a few days and while they do develop some rappport over the travel it’s not enough. They reach hero’s castle and hero’s mistress/ lehanne is there to welcome him.
I remember over the first dinner heroine feels isolated while mistress fawns all over the hero. And he also spends the first few nights with his mistress. But eventually he sleeps with the heroine. He is actually quite taken up with the heroine his wife but feels he should not develop feelings.
So to prove to himself he is not having feelings for the heroine he sleeps with his mistress the next night and heroine comes across this when she is looking for the hero. So of course she is hurt etc etc and the story then follows how he makes it up to her.
If anyone had any idea it would be great as I would love to read it again
Anyone have a guess?
UPDATE —> IT’S THIS ONE!!! Chris: The Border Lord by Sophia James? It doesnt fit completely, but there js groping from the mistress when they arrive, and then at breakfast.

Shara: I know I have read this.. I am almost positive it is a Monica McCartney book. From her highland guard series? They are the group of warriors robert the bruce set up as his “secret” guard. I cannot find which one it is… I think it’s “the chief”? I remember a scene where he goes to the tavern, she follows him and she catches the mistress on her knees… of course, there is a chance I just mashed 2 scenes into 1 book mistakenly…

Elaine: A similar book you might enjoy whilst you are waiting for the book you are looking for, ‘The Heather Wife’ by A.M. Kray: Sorcha is being trained by her mother to be the Lady of the Castle Keep but she desperately wants to be a warrior and fight like her brothers and Father. Sorcha is overlooked and feels she has no worth.
There is an invasion and her mother is killed after which Sorcha looks after the running of the castle until her brother marries. No longer useful, Sorcha is married to a Laird who is already involved with another woman. He makes no effort at all to make sure she is welcome, he dotes on his first love and the servants treat her with disrespect. Sorcha ‘endures’ because she was taught to but there is terrible betrayal before the situation improves. Hope you find your book soon!
Elaine: How long ago did you read this book? This is an old one, ‘The Taming’ by Jude Deveraux. The heroine is forced to marry a highland laird but when she arrives at his castle, she slowly realises that her highland husband has a mistress who is firmly ensconced and running the castle.
Elaine: My mistake, Rekha! ‘The Taming’ is the book where Lady Liana’s new filthy, dirty husband has a girl/ maid for every day of the week, the maids are named after the days of the week!
Lady Liana, sets his mattress on fire on discovering him with one of the maids in her room. He is a bitter man as he lost his lands and property. His castle is filthy and the servants will not help Lady Liana, the new wife as no one has any respect for her or her position as Rogan’s wife. The maids are there for sex with Ronan, not to cook or clean.
My apologies, I have always read quickly and voraciously and often cannot remember the title or author of a book! I too have had to ask for help from reader’s on Maryse’s book blog (brilliant isn’t it?!) I now try to make a note of every book I read because it’s frustrating when you can’t find the book you want to read again. Doesn’t seem to be working though!
