Nicky Charles – The Mating – Laws of the Lycans Series Reading Order

by Maryse on March 3, 2011 · 101 comments

in Reading Order Guide:

I downloaded this werewolf series and was floored by how good it was. Nice long books, that capture you and tell an amazing story (werewolf pack issues, werewolf meets human – lots of danger and romance). I didn’t want to put it down, and this was another series that kept me up late into the night. I had one of my friends read it, and she said “I think I liked it better than Twilight”. That’s saying something cause she’s a Twilight addict.

About book #1:

Elise had no idea when she came home that day that she’d end up mated to a complete stranger. A new Alpha and the need for an alliance between packs have made her a pawn

EXCERPT: She lay beside him, staring blankly at the ceiling. The deed was done. They were mated. It didn’t matter that she had no love for him nor he for her. Political alliances were more important than feelings…

Where did you download these from? I tried looking them up on Amazon and the name is in there but takes me to a Mandy Monroe.

Maryse March 3, 2011 at 10:34 AM

Hi Lis!

She doesn’t have them on Amazon, but if you click on the links above (or the book covers) it’ll send you directly to her page where she provides downloadable links to her books in many different formats.

Hope that helps!

Lis March 3, 2011 at 12:13 PM

Yes, it helped. I see it now. Will look at it when I get home tonight, but am more excited to finish the Immortals after Dark so I can start BDB. REALLY looking forward to that series after yesterday. :)
Have a good day.

Conchita March 3, 2011 at 5:55 PM

Followed instructions to download to my kindle and in a few minutes I had all 3 books just waiting to be read. Thanks for great tip and looking forward to stories as your recommendations are always dead on.

crystal zuke March 23, 2011 at 3:40 AM

Maryse March 23, 2011 at 7:53 AM

Glad you guys are enjoying them :)

Anais April 5, 2011 at 3:02 PM

Absolutely in love with this series. I’m already on book 3. I haven’t been able to put my e-book down since I downloaded and started reading “The Mating” 6 days ago.

Ms. Kay April 9, 2011 at 11:31 PM

I really did enjoy reading The Mating. It was a none stop reed I’m looking forward to reading The Keeping.

Maryse April 13, 2011 at 8:30 AM

Hi Ms. Kay! How are you liking “The Keeping”?

Vanessa April 13, 2011 at 1:51 PM

The Mating was fantastic and whats funny is I downloaded it for free on my IPad and I had it for the longest time until I read a couple of pages and I couldn’t stop. Took me three hours i couldn’t put it down page turner. she is a fantastic writer I wish I could buy it in paperback.

penny April 15, 2011 at 5:21 PM

I just have to say the mating series is amazing! I usually only read stephen king, dean koontz, type books not into all the lusting loins but the story was so interesting I just couldn’t put in down! I really hope a fourth book is to come! Thank! Penny

Brandy April 23, 2011 at 5:22 PM

Loved the books read them in a day.

Yadira santos May 3, 2011 at 1:45 AM

I’m on the last chapter in book 3, and I’m really bummed that there’s only 3 books. I really enjoyed them and wish the author would keep on adding to the series.

Jo May 15, 2011 at 10:27 PM

I just completed all three books in a month, very exciting so when’s the next one?

Sydney May 25, 2011 at 5:07 PM

I’m really bummed too that Nicky just has THREE in her lycan series….I’m tryin’ to take my time reading the last one THE FINDING. Sure wish she had more to read…………..she’s amazingly wonderful. I’m not big into the lusty loins stuff…but can skim over it quickly and get the drift.

Juanita May 25, 2011 at 9:11 PM

Nicky Charles – I love you! You have been the only author to tear me away from Twilight ( have been a huge fan for years) Now I’m a Lycan Lover. I’ve read the books twice on my Nook. I need more!!!!!! Ryne & Kane are sexy beyond words. You can’t stop now – please?
We have to have a movie, and I want to be in it. I will work for free!!!!
Hot – Hot books!

Gyorgyi May 27, 2011 at 9:18 AM

I loved this series!!! Went through all three pretty fast!!!

Dee May 29, 2011 at 6:02 PM

I just finished the Mating. Loved it! Read through it in just 3 days. Kinda’ bummed that there are only 3 books in the series, but I can’t wait to finish the other books. I’m really excited to see where the story goes.

Maryse May 31, 2011 at 7:44 PM

Hi Dee. Agreed. I LOVED the Mating!! I get the impression that there might be a 4th book by the way she wrote the 3rd, but she does mention at the end that she will be taking a break for a bit…

Maryse May 31, 2011 at 8:48 PM

Hi Sydney… the way she ended #3 I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a #4 ;)

Kim June 2, 2011 at 4:39 PM

I read all three books and loved them. I, too, thought they might even be better than the Twilight series…at least for me. Enjoy!

Eileen June 5, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Normally I stay away from books about wolves but decided to give the mating a try,I couldn’t put it down I loved it and the finding now im on the third book which is another im hooked on.

lisa- jayne June 6, 2011 at 2:47 AM

Nicky Charles is a inspirational author , she has a deep passion for writing , i would love for these books to become a sequell of films , i can just picture the beautifull , breath taking lands in which these handsome, mysterious men live . I love the twightlight saga but my god these books top them by miles, :) x
Hopefully there will be a 4th soon , maybe wishful thinking …..

karla June 15, 2011 at 11:35 AM

Thanks so much. Your books are a great read i am on my second one in the series and i can’t put them down

gecca June 17, 2011 at 6:10 PM

i love all three books… try S.C. Stephens vampire trilogy too – The Conversion Trilogy available at

Brittany June 23, 2011 at 7:54 PM

I loved these books. I found them when I was looking for free NookBooks right before I bought my Nook. I think there are a few grammatical errors, but she is an incredibly talented author. I loved these stories, way more than Twilight. I finished the third book last week and I still feel sad that I’m not reading about the characters anymore. I hope she heals up and continues writing about these characters!!!

Kay June 26, 2011 at 7:44 PM

So, i just finished reading the first one in 12 hours.. and i think they need to go ahead and make this a movie :) featuring the lovely joe manganiello as Kane. even though he is older than the kane in the book. i couldnt help but think of him the entire time i was reading it! LOVE IT!! CANT WAIT TO READ THE OTHERS!

tasha July 6, 2011 at 6:37 AM

i read all three books and loved them they r great but i think she should do another book just on kane and elise they r the best carecters in the whole series.

Simone July 7, 2011 at 8:27 AM

Just read this trilogy in about 3 days, couldn’t put it down!!! And now that I’ve finished, I can’t stop thinking about it.
I totally agree that Kane and Elise were great, but i loved Mel and Ryne! Actually even Cassie and Bryan…
She needs to do more!

B. Babineaux July 23, 2011 at 3:07 PM

When I started the Keeping, I had no idea it was a trilogy. Because I enjoyed it so, I went looking for something else by Nickey Charles. Thus the Mating. Then I realized I should have read it first. Now I have started the Finding.
My first foray into writings by Nickey Chales. Great writing and a great read.

Ann July 27, 2011 at 4:35 PM

I found all 3 books for free on barnes n nobles nnok site. I cant believe it! to find a whole trilogy for free. What a great read they are. Once you pick them up you don’t want to put them down. Thanks again!!!! I hope there’s more to come!

holly July 29, 2011 at 7:41 PM

I loved these books ! I was also looking at the free ebooks on barnes and noble and came across Nicky Charles and had all three read in a weekend. By far the best books I have read. Hope there is a fourth book and many more to come !

ella August 1, 2011 at 6:59 AM

Read the 3 series and love it! hope there will be a story for Daniel and Tessa so curious what will be the story!

Gwenlyn Norton August 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM

Wonderful read. I didn’t know there were three. I will be investigating.

Valerie August 28, 2011 at 10:45 PM

I agree totally with Ella. I know Nicky mentioned she is interested in the Sam character, but I’d rather read about Daniel and Tessa, personally. I hope Nicky’s arm is feeling better soon. Not just for purely selfish reasons of wanting to read another book about these intertwined wolf packs, either. :)

Valerie August 28, 2011 at 10:49 PM

By the way – I found out about this author through reading “First Grave on the Right” by Darynda Jones. I really recommend her books. I don’t want to give anything away about her series, but I can say it’s about a private investigator named Charley Davidson who also just happens to be THE Grim Reaper. Her dad is a retired police officer who now owns a bar in which her office is located on the 2nd story of the building. Her uncle is still on the police department and uses her in some cases since she can see dead people. She is also very hotly involved with an intity that is other than human (like I said, don’t want to give away too much).

Mary F September 10, 2011 at 12:15 PM

Just finished reading the 3 book series. (in a weeks time) What a surprise! Could not put the books down. Am so glad did not have to wait to see what happened after reading book one, then 2. Am curious to see if there will be a book 4. The story gets you from the very beginning, and draws you in to the lives of all the characters. Great reading.

Texas Girl September 19, 2011 at 11:08 AM

The best free books I’ve read!!! I would have paid for these!!! They were sufficiently long to give you great insight into each of the characters and the situations. I was on a roller coaster with each one–almost like I was there with them. NC did a great job at bringing you into the story. I hope to see more from here SOON….
I don’t know which couple I liked the best K/E, R/M or B/C…I liked them all so much,,,in their own way. Now the female Alpha Sam/Demetri (could be very interesting) and/or Daniel/Tessa??? So many different ways to go. I hope book 4 –”The Bonding” –right? is out soon! Haven’t seen any previews of it…but would like to.

sherry October 17, 2011 at 1:34 PM

I downloaded The Mating, The Finding and The Keeping for free. I couldn’t believe how good they are. Now I can’t wait for The Bonding. Hard to believe sucj a good series was free. Thank you!!!!

Maryse October 19, 2011 at 10:45 AM

Sherry!!! I know! A lot of Indie authors are really great! And free!? WOW. I can’t wait for the next installment either!

Victoria November 11, 2011 at 2:34 AM

I’ve been reading Laws of the Lycan Series ever since she first posted The Mating. But I was wondering, what would you recommend for an e-reader? I’m really concerned about my eyes since I’ve noticed that my eyesight is actually getting worse the more I stare at my computer screen so I’ve been debating between an amazon kindle (since they advertise it looks like real paper) and an ipad.

Maryse November 11, 2011 at 9:22 PM

Hi Victoria!

As for reader, I’m reading on my iPad so it’s still sorta like a mini computer. I love it, but I’ve been told that the “eye” issues are simply from training your eye to look up close all the time (which us readers are doing). From how I understand it (as per my doctor ) he told me it doesn’t matter what we read on, the problem is simply that we are always focusing up close.

Therefore, since our eyes are constantly focusing up close for hours on end (books, at work on computers, e-readers), our “distance sight” eventually loses it’s perfect focus :(

Here’s a positive side to all of this. Supposedly (again as per my doctor) avid readers keep their almost perfect close-up vision longer than “regular” people who start losing their “closeup” vision naturally, once they hit forty. Apparently, us readers will have highly developed “close-up” sight and might not lose it as fast, (or as I’m hoping, we won’t lose it at all). Maybe wishful thinking?

Is that what’s happening to you?

Victoria November 11, 2011 at 10:14 PM

I cannot believe you have not discovered yet! That’s where most of the great indie authors that I know started out from. It’s this free online writing community, the only downside is that anyone can plagiarize your work.

And yeah, I read mostly on my mac though I used to love reading books but lately just haven’t had the time to look up any good ones so I depend on online reading communities which I’m a member of. It’s making my eyesight really bad. I just noticed a few days ago that I can’t even read the menu from my local cafe anymore. Thank god I remember many of items listed so I didn’t look like an idiot squinting at the cashier and the menu =/

Tysia Buchanan December 13, 2011 at 1:24 AM

Looooooovvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeedddddddd it!!!!!!!!!!! She needs to make more though I can’t stop reading these amazing stories and now I’m sad because the newest book hasn’t come out yet

Kristin D December 15, 2011 at 9:30 AM

I can’t wait for her fourth book called Bonded. She said it will hopefully be done by Christmas 2011. These are some of the best books that I’ve ever read, and I read a lot, and they are free! She does it because she loves to write. She is amazing at it! If you haven’t read them you need to ASAP!

Maryse December 15, 2011 at 1:36 PM

And do you know who her hero inspiration is for it? She told me, and he’s awesome!

MelissaDS December 17, 2011 at 8:20 PM

I finished all 3 books in about 2-3 weeks. I could NOT put them down- I am now a werewolf fanatic!! As I read each book, I imagined Bryan Fisher as Ryne and Kane and Bryan as Jake McDorman in AquaMarine lol. I LOVE these books!!!

Maryse December 22, 2011 at 12:12 PM

Now I have to look your guys up, Melissa :) I love when you guys tell me who you *saw*

Lily Pierce February 23, 2012 at 12:21 PM

I just finish reading bonded about 4 mins ago from my iPhone. That book is fanastic. Nicky Charles I have to say hands down your books are better than the twilight serie. I hope one day your book becomes a movie because I will be the first one there on opening night.

Lauren March 3, 2012 at 6:01 AM

I have read all 4 of Nicky’s books!! Loved them – was lucky enough to get them for free as well. I read them before finding this blog – so glad that the word is out there about these books!

Michelle March 4, 2012 at 11:46 AM

I too finished reading all 4. Loved the books until the end of the last one. Don’t want to give it away to those who havn’t yet finished reading the 4th book so all I’m gonna say is YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I disliked the ending completely

Maryse March 4, 2012 at 4:18 PM

Eeeeek Michelle!! Really? Like a cliffhanger? Urgh. CLiffhangers stress me out!

Maryse March 4, 2012 at 4:41 PM

Taylor August 3, 2012 at 1:13 AM

I feel so sorry for *spoiler*. I loved how *spoiler* changed him into the ‘lap dog’ he really was.

Jeannie August 20, 2012 at 12:51 PM

Reading the second book and I love it! Almost as good as Kenyon and Terry Spears. I love my werewolves! I would recommend this series to anyone!

Daniellea August 21, 2012 at 6:35 PM

werewolf girl September 10, 2012 at 6:34 PM

LaurenLu October 23, 2012 at 5:48 PM

I loved every last one of these books. As a matter of fact I really didn’t know what I was downloading. The last book was fantastic; it played like a miniseries on TV. I’m waiting for the next book beginning where the last book left off. It would be interesting to follow Cassie and Bryan as we did Kane, Elise, Mel and Ryne.

KStyle November 2, 2012 at 8:18 AM

I’m so excited that Nicky Charles’s books are getting the love that it greatly deserves. I would’ve recommend her books sooner but I thought that she was a well known indie writer. Love, love, love her books. Nicky is an awesome writer who deserves five stars for giving us readers these treasures for free!!!

Faith November 20, 2012 at 10:57 AM

Was bonded the last book or is another coming out soon?

cinda January 4, 2013 at 10:43 PM

I downloaded this series for free from barnes and noble for nook. I was expecting the normal free book…short, poorly written, bad grammar, horrible plot, etc. And couldn’t believe how great these were! I hope there are more coming…I would pay for it in a heartbeat!

Kylie January 15, 2013 at 4:36 PM

Just finishing read your books and loved them , 4 sleepless night as I couldn’t,t put them down :0)

Linda Barrows March 13, 2013 at 6:03 PM

Nciky Charles thank you for the great books they have been wounderful. The people come alive making you feel like you are a part of the story, this is a gift to keep a reader feel like that. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop reading and I thank you for the hours of great intertainment. Your a very gifted story teller. Thank you ….Thank you! Just bought “Betrayed” can’t wait to start reading.

I love your books, I hope you are going to write more. Piease let me know, Iam looking forwaed to it.

Felecia April 5, 2013 at 2:00 AM

All 5 books are free on Amazon. However, Bonded is named as a “Prequel to The mating” and Betrayed as a “sequel to Bonded”. I’m not sure of the reading order since I read the initial 3 in 2011, before Bonded and Betrayed were released.

cheryl April 9, 2013 at 12:45 AM

Just finished the last book. All 5 were fantastic can’t wait to see how Damien and Sam combust together. Thanks for the story.

Madison May 6, 2013 at 12:40 AM

Don’t you think there should be another book to the trilogy of “The Mating”? I DO! I hope Nicky Charles writes a new one… At the end of the “The Keeping” there was a cliff hanger… Wasn’t there? Please if you have any new info if there will be a new book to the trilogy, or when it will be out, please let me know!! Thanks! :)

Madison May 6, 2013 at 12:48 AM

I haven’t started reading Bonded or Betrayed yet… Jeesh!! ihaven’t even GOT the books yet!! Soon though I will!! But I just gotta know!!
is Kane and Elise and the whole Gang in one of these books please let me know!

Marlena July 9, 2013 at 10:58 PM

Bonded and the next one Betrayed are prequels. Kane’s pack is briefly mentioned. When they thought The Keeping law would have to be activated. I loved these books, and I REALLY hope there is another one. All I can say is poor Damien!

Marlena July 9, 2013 at 10:58 PM
