So, here’s what I’ve been up to. I’ve been reading Retribution. I’m having a good time, and I’ll be done this evening, so I can write the review. But, I have a question.
What happened to Sherrilyn Kenyon’s signature steamy scenes? Where’d they go? Why are these characters not smoking up the pages of my book? I mean, I know it’s not YA, ’cause, they did have a “moment” with a little detail, but… nothing NOTHING like her past books in this series.
Remember that scene with Valerius and Tabitha against the door? Dressed I might add. Fully clothed and yet, still, there was magic in their intensity.
What about that scene (okay, all the scenes with Acheron and Tory), but let’s just say that whole section where Ash drinks Sprite. That was nice!
Vane and Bride (one of my favorite books in the series) blew me away on their very first encounter. That dressing room scene. Unbeatable.
I could go on and on. Even the intensity in a first kiss (and the emotion, and tension that went with it) was described to perfection. Stuff like that made me connect with the characters as a potential couple. I’m wishing Sherrilyn would let go again, like she used to, in these newer books. I like the characters, and the story telling is fun. But I just wish I felt them, the way I used to.
Well, there’s still a quarter of the book left. Maybe she’s saving the best for last?
