The Drowning Kind, I’ve been eyeing that one more lately. I’m so behind though, I feel like I’m stuck reading the same books forever. Like, all the books I pick up are 400, 500+ pages. And it seems daunting. Also, House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland released today. I read one of hers, Our Chemical Hearts a loong time ago (and recently watched the show) and it was packed with emotion for me so I’m really intrigued by this different genre from her.
Oh I’m going to add it now!
I’m still reading You Are Not Alone and enjoying it, but same for me… I’m stuck at the last quarter and I just need to power through. It’s a tiny bit slow through the middle because we go back and learn about each girl in the group and how she was chosen for the group.
Which is good, and slowly builds answers but pulls me out of the main story regularly.
Yes! There’s so much going on and I have to read and reread a lot bc it’s so different and there are a lot of characters and things to keep up with and I can’t just get sucked in and power through. I don’t have the time to commit and when I do during a longer stretch, sometimes my mind will wander and I’ll do the rereading and then I’ll be right there with it and have to stop and start all over again the next time I pick it up. And it’s not that it’s bad, I think it’s me. I’m all over the place lately. I find reading aloud when I’m struggling with focus has helped tremendously.
My BOTM came yesterday? Or the day before too and I’m really excited to read them (they’re not long 😂) and have a different feel than the book I’ve been working on (Six of Crows) and I’m ready for something new. I’ve got The Hunting Wives and Arsenic and Abobo which sounds really fun.
Also, I started watching a show last night (it’s been a while) and I looove it so far. It’s called Ginny and Georgia and it’s on Netflix. It’s not at all what I thought it would be and I’m pleasantly surprised. Like a mix up of so many things it’s hard to describe.
I need to find a show to get into. I start a series, get halfway through the first season… then lose it. The last one I watched pretty much non stop was The Queen’s Gambit. That one held me.
I think series are just a big time commitment and it’s hard to settle on one and stick with it bc you can’t always binge them and by the time you’re ready to watch something again there is so much more out and it’s overwhelming. Then you’re questioning what you’re really in the mood for, much like books. Lol! I’m not a big finisher either always, I’ve come to accept it. 😂
Ditto. 😂😂
What the Heart Wants….oh my goodness that one sounds so good!!
RIGHT????????? That was my ultimate blurb jolt of the day!
I’m on a bit of a non-romance reading kick at the moment. I just finished and really liked A Memory Called Empire, which is a science fiction book that won all the big sci-fi awards in 2020. There is a bit of light f-f romance in it, which isn’t usually my kick in books, but it’s done very well here. It’s not about that, though. It’s just a really good sci-fi read.
Now I’m hooked into Schindler’s Ark, the book the film Schindler’s List was based on. The writer, Tom Keneally, is Australian, and has written lots of books. I haven’t read many of them, but each time I pick one up I am reminded how much I like his writing style and ask myself why I haven’t read more of his books. LOL. This one is really involving so far and not scary or depressing despite the Holocaust setting.
Once I’ve finished Schindler, it probably won’t be too long before I’m back to my usual diet of historical and contemporary romances, though. OK, I’m addicted. Ha ha ha. *shrugs*
Sometimes we need to change things up. I’m thinking after my latest psych-thriller, I’m going to read “Sh*t My Father Says”
Yeah that sounds like a funny read. I might look at that one too.
They sound like great books Jan!
My husband read Midnight Library – another award winner- and thought it was very good. He’s usually a harsh critic so that says something…
Yeah I’ve heard it’s getting great reviews. will have a look. Thanks.
Howdy y’all. I’m popping in to say HI.
I just finished the last book in the Fever Series, A Kingdom of Shadow and Light. It’s finally done. I love it when a series is over, but it also makes me sad. I miss the characters and the world. It wrapped up super quick in the last quarter of the book, Like WHAM…. all wrapped up. Wasn’t expecting that. Anyone else stay with the series to the end?
I gave up on the series a while ago, even though I did like the first few I read. Maybe I should go back and try the last few. I know what you mean about finishing a series. Totally mixed feelings.
YAY MichelleS!!!! I missed you. 😀
I still have to read Shadow and Light. The last book really made me happy, honestly. Wrapping up the character’s storyline like that just… so happy. 😀 But now I’m scared to read this one knowing it’s the last. lol
wow, quite the accomplishment! I also find it hard to say goodbye to characters in a series 🙁
Catching up….
I read My Dark Vanessa – ick
The Bridge Kingdom – LOVED IT!! Totally a must read for Sarah J Maas fans
Now to see what you’ve been reading and loving.
Our finest hour, never read it. Don’t remember wanting to read it. I read it and loved it. I read it because she had a tik Tok and I immediately bought it and loved it. Maryse you need a tik tok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gosh Darnit, I know it. I’m scared of the TikTok. LOL!!!!
Fine… I’ll start. 😂 Is it hard?
Okay I just downloaded it. Maybe I will do a book box reveal video to start later…
Oh my gosh so excited. It’s not hard at all. Colleen Hoover is over there too she cracks me up
Ok I’m following and waiting patiently. You could also do something funny with you and Travis your number 1 bookboyfriend
Eeeeeeeep!! Okay… coming soon. I wish Travis. 😉
Master Mage by Chandelle Lavaun came out yesterday! I read everything by her!
Ohhhhh!!! Okay I’ll add that one in. Thank you Tessa! AND YAY!! Tessa’s here!! 😀
😀 I gotta give love to another author. No new book or anything, but I discovered Eve Langlais during this pandemic and her humor was a godsend. No matter how crappy the day (Over a year with the kid not going to school, just distance learning. YUCK! The first day was yesterday), her books had me giggling.
It’s 83 today, so I felt motivated to tackle a closet that I’ve never really organized before. It had become out of control. So, I’d haphazardly been keeping hand me downs in there over the years bc it was supposed to be more easily accessible. Except I couldn’t find J shorts today, so I thought- now is the time! But, it’s also that transitioning period into spring. Like, last week we had 30 degree days. This week 70s. Now looking into next, 50s. *sigh*
So much more to do yet, I’m taking a break. It’s helping me know what everyone needs though too. It always feels like there’s more than enough, until someone needs a tank top and we realize they’ve outgrown them. Or the real skinny one has finally needed to upgrade a swimsuit or collar pj size.
And somehow we skipped summer 3s?? So Js dealing with the large amount of 4s. He’s not in school yet so it’s not a big deal right? 😂🤣
I think I’m reading too many dark reads these days.
Need more CR in my reading life but seem to have read most mainstream books that interest me. While I wait for new books, I’m digging deep into “fringe” indie books that are sometimes naively written but have fabulous little nuggets.
Some of my dark reads…The Devil & The Devil’s Advocate by Ashley Jade, Priest by Sierra Simone, and Huss’ new book Sick Heart (a favourite author). They were good & a couple left a deep impression, but now I need “light”.
Now reading some indie & less well known books -The Spy Who Loved Me…Sort Of, Mostly my Boss, Mostly My Girlfriend by S. Doyle, Dirty Dancing at Devil’s Leap & Malcolm & Isabel – both by Julie Ann Long (last book rec from Jan). Also the third book in Blair Babylon’s Maxence series – Prince – decent writing with some hawt stuff 🔥. Definitely feeling lighter…
