Kathy, my resident fellow book-deal finder, reader question guesser & discoverer of new releases is here again with her amazing “Best of 2022” list!!! And from the comments I’ve found, so many in our book crew agree.
P.S. Thank you Kathy for your amazing book help!!
But first… let’s get to know Kathy even better by checking out her fun 2022 comment highlights 😉
I love so many new to me authors!! I need to read Jennifer Harttman as she has been on so many best of the year for 2021! I loved the first two books in the Queens and Monster Series and somehow I missed the last! And if you want to read a great MC Series, I have read all of Jamie Begley’s, I so agree!
I love Jewel E. Ann and after so many rave reviews about The Fisherman Duet and I am definitely reading this next!
M/M is one of my favorite genres.
Unusually cold here in California. Rainy and windy. I’m hunkered down reading Lucy Score’s latest. Tonight going out to dinner with my parents for some Chinese food (Wonton Soup sounds really good right now!)
I’m going to vent a little bit. Lately I have begun to see a trend that is frustrating. On some newly released books, you have to click on the link at the end of the book to get an epilogue or extended epilogue. This means clicking on the link, and then having to download it from Book Funnel. The book I just read released 3 weeks ago. The epilogue was essential to the closing of the story. I don’t understand why it couldn’t have just been included in the original book. To all of those authors, I love epilogues and finding out how the characters faired a year of few years down the line. Sorry for my rant.
I love finding out how the characters evolve after “The End”. And I do appreciate the authors taking the time to write an epilogue.
On a happier note, 15 year old daughter has been begging me to watch Anne With an E (based on Anne of Green Gables). I watched the first episode and absolutely loved it. So beautiful. It got cancelled after 3 seasons but so hoping it will be renewed!
I’m leaving for a 9 day vacation on Fri and I can’t decide which book to start first! I have too many on my TBR!
So jealous of the lower temps! 104 degrees today and 102 tomorrow but at least we have no humidity! I attended San Francisco’s Pride Parade with my hubby and my daughter. I lived in SF for 8 years when I was in my 20’s and never attended the Parade. So fun!
Well, my reading days will be numbered. After 15 years of being a stay at home Mom, I am going back to work full time next week. I have been working a part time temporary position with the County Health Dept for a few months. It will be good to get my skills back up (my girl friends call this a lily pad job:) But I will be working 12 hour days and it will be tough. However, all I make will be going to my son’s college tuition.
My reading time has sadly been diminished now that I am no longer a stay at home Mom and working 12 hour days. 🙁
Yes, college is pricey so basically all of my paycheck is going to my son’s college tuition but it is worth it.
111 degrees today so after work back to my episodes of Indian Matchmaker on Netflix. I just found it and I’m addicted to it!
We had the old fashioned smoker and it took all day and my hubby would be housebound. Love our Traeger. He has the one with the App on the phone so we can go out and he can still monitor the meat! Love it!
And now… Kathy’s Best Books of 2022:
Hi Maryse,
Finally giving you my best reads of the year. My reading definitely slowed down from August as I went from stay at home Mom to working full time and 12 hours days.
My Best read of 2022
If We Disappear Here by M. Hayes. <— This book had some many twists and it kept me guessing throughout the book.
Kathy: I just finished If We Disappear Here by M. Hayes. I am making my husband read it! Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely 5 stars for me. Some plot twists and I agree a few I expected but definitely a page turner.
Linda: If We Disappear Here by M. Hayes! Why yes I devoured it!! 5*****
Mona: Finished If We Disappear Here by M. Hayes yesterday. Holy moly, I could not put this book down! Maeve wakes up in a cold cement room, looks around and sees a man, but he is not her husband. They have been kidnapped and locked in an underground bunker by a man bent on torturing them. Maeve and Ledger try to figure out why they were kidnapped, what is their connection since they’ve never met, and where are their spouses? This is suspense with a little romance thrown in. There are twists you see coming and some that are surprises. This is a new to me author, but I’m headed to Amazon to download more! 5 Stars for me and it’s KU!
And in no particular order:
The Body Guard by Katherine Center. <— Every book I have read by her have been 5 star reads. So excited to read her new book coming out soon.
Kathy: My 5reading time has sadly been diminished now that I am no longer a stay at home Mom and working 12 hour days. 🙁 But I did finish the new Katherine Center’s book The Bodyguard. If you like books about a male actor and a female bodyguard you will love this one. I would definitely recommend it.
…I loved The Bodyguard. That is on my top 10!
Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score <— I loved Know and Naomi. Lucy Score has a way that makes you fall in love with all of her characters. Can’t wait for the next book coming out in February.
Cristina: I also really enjoyed Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. Great banter and chemistry between the H/h and great secondary characters.
Megan: Things we Never got over was so cute!!
Mona: I just finished Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. It has a bit of a Tatum Jackson/Laurie/Sweet Dreams feel to it. How do I follow up from those two?!?
Last on the List by Amy Daws <— This can be read as a standalone. Her books are always filled with humor. Single Dad and nanny. My book catnip!
Brutal Vows by J.T. Geissinger <— This is the 4th book in the Queens and Monsters Series. A widowed aunt trying to protect a niece from an arranged mafia marriage. Each book in the series has been on my best reads of the year.
Mony: Brutal Vows (Queens & Monsters #4) by Geissinger. Irish mafia…ooh. May be best in the series. 🙂
The Everything Series by A.K. Evans <— This is a 5 book series and about a group of professional snowboarders and who find romance with a group of friends. I had never read a book by A.K. Evans and it had me devouring three more series that she wrote.
Kathy: I just finished The Everything Series by A.K. Evans. The books involve four girl friends from California who find romance with a group of friends who are snowboarders.
If you liked Ride by Kristy Dallas, it had some of the same feels. I binge read it and now am going to start another series which is a spin off of it.
Getting Schooled by Emma Chase <— I have had this book for so many years in my Kindle. I can’t believe I waited so long read it and then read the remaining two books.
Kathy: Her writing is perfect vacation reading!
Lisa M: I was in a reading slump until I read Getting Schooled!! Loved it!! So of course I had to read Getting Played & now I’m on Getting Real so good!!! Highly recommend all these books. I will have to check out her other books.
A Wish for Us by Tillie Cole <— I had avoided reading this book as I heard tissues were needed. However, it was such a good read and I found it so interesting reading about synesthesia and the creation of music.
Andrea: My favorite Tillie Cole book is A Wish For Us. Hands down the best book I’ve read all year!
Becky: I’ve read A Wish For Us 6 times now!!!!! I’m in love with Bonnie and Cromwell!!!!! This book is my favorite of hers, it well surpassed my Hades Hangmen Heroes, Styx and Flame, I didn’t even think that was possible!!!!!
Lastly, A Chance Encounter by Nikki Ash <— Rockstar/Single Mom. That sums it up right there! If you haven’t read a book by Nikki Ash, definitely pick one up.
Okay, that is it for me!
XOXO
Kathy
