In Five Years: A NovelΒ <— OMG 5 STARS FOR THIS ONE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!! I practically highlighted the whole thing. I can’t even describe to you how unique and clever it is (it kept me guessing the whole way through), and captured me right from the start and didn’t let me go. It will definitely be on my Best of 2021 list.
I’m so glad I jumped on it (price be damned, ’cause I paid the full price, LOL!!). The reactions from our book crew convinced me and it was SO worth it. THIS IS A MUST READ.
I’d say go in blind, like I did (I didn’t even read the blurb – I just went on the recommendations alone) but if you do read the blurb, it will give you a HUGE blurb jolt (and for good reason… you’ll see) and you will be DYING to read this.
MichelleS:Β Hey all!Β I am in the middle of the BEST bookβ¦ I am sure it will end up on my Best of 2021 list. If you read it, donβt tell me how it ends!!! Itβs one of those that keeps you up reading lateβ¦ because you have NO IDEA where it is going. Love it! In Five Years, by Rebecca Serle.
The H is a total type A personality. Her life is going exactly as planned. Until she wakes up one night and is NOT in her perfect lifeβ¦ or is she? And how does she go on when she is BACK in her real life? Oh boy. The twists are awesome, and I have no idea where itβs headed.
Maryse: TWISTS YOU SAY?? Oh THIS SOUNDS GREAT!!!! Thank you MichelleS. My type of book!!!!
R. Renee: Iβm almost 30% into In Five Years and loving it. I have no idea where itβs going. Itβs just a fun ride so far!
Maryse: I one-clicked it (price be damned!!! I needed it!!) and am reading it now. Iβm at 16% and LOVING IT!!! …it is AMAZING so far!!! Got me hooked right from the start.
Michele G: I LOVED that book!!! Enjoy and donβt try to figure it outβ¦
R. Renee: I never try to figure it out but sometimes itβs obvious. This one isnβt though, so far!
Cheryl: I have a few thoughts, but honestly donβt know how this wonβt hurt when Iβm finished. *Scared*
Melinda: You wonβt regret it, amazing π€© I started In Five Years yesterday and finished last night, amazing π€© loved it. But at **% OMG just wait π³ 5 big stars for me. I live for books like these, that you canβt put down
Lisa M: I just started reading it too.
Shirley: Iβm currently listening to In Five Years and its SO good on Audible!
Amy: Iβm jumping in and joining you guys with In Five Years. Iβve had it since last March but Iβm finally picking it up. *rubs hands together* Iβm excited!!
Mony: You guys are so badβ¦yep, Iβm reading In Five Years and itβs really good.Β The guys are greatβ¦ Itβs hard for me when I know thereβs likely to be a twisty ending. *nail biting*
Maryse: YAY MONY!!!!! Epic weekend buddy read. Makes me so happy! π
R. Renee: Yay! Buddy read!
MichelleS: Yippee!! Buddy read. Thenβ¦ buddy reviewsβ¦ … Missed this.
Amy: Iβve missed our βold-schoolβ buddy reads as well. β€οΈ
Maryse: WE ARE ALL BUDDY READING LIKE IN OUR OLDEN TIMES!!!!!!! *happy wiggles* π !!!!Β bev!! Read our buddy read book!!! In Five Years!!! IT IS EXACTLY OUR THING (your thing!!)
Maryse: THAT CONNECTION thoughβ¦Β I AM LOVING IT!! Alsoβ¦ I want to eat that bagel white fish sheβs always going forβ¦
R.Renee: I donβt even know what that is and I want one! I was up ALL night reading. I forced myself to put it down at 78%. Everything hurts.
MichelleS: Wasnβt expecting to love the friendship between two women so damn much. Get lost in the romance, and forget how important our friends are.
Lee: I burned through it in a day. Took me under straight away. Really loved it.Β
I was delighted when I realized (pretty soon into the book) “where it was taking us” and the blurb pretty much says it exactly though without giving anything away (P.S. TOTAL BLURB JOLT now that I’ve finally read it π ). But blind is so much more fun!!
So what’s it about?
It’s a story of our heroine’s perfect focus, perfect planning, perfect boyfriend,
David is right for me, and the things I want for my life.
…perfect career and her perfect life all falling perfectly into place. Pure manifestation.
This is what I want. This is what Iβve always wanted. To be somewhere that stops at nothing. To be surrounded by the pace and rhythm of greatness.
Sure, she may not be as “exciting” and carefree as her very best friend in the world, Bella (P.S. This friendship is everything!!!)…
Bella is spoiled, mercurial, and more than a little bit magical. Itβs not just me. Everywhere she goes people fall at her feet. She is the easiest to love, and gives love freely. But sheβs fragile, too.
…but she’s exactly where she wants to be and she’s happy.
That is, until she wakes up one day to a very different realization.
I could tell you I think Iβm dreaming, but I donβt, not really. I can feel my legs and arms and the frenetic beating of my own uneasy heart.
*ooooomph!!!!!!!!* *thud*
I didn’t even suspect a certain partΒ from the synopsis (since I hadn’t even read it when I jumped in) until it hit me in the face, and I WAS ALL… OMG GASSSSSSSPPPPP!!!!!!
If you want a story of love, possible love triangle (my lips are sealed on how that all goes down), but told in an incredibly unique, exciting, kind of confusing yet so addicting way? This is for you!!! P.S. This is not a “romance” story. That said, it’s practically unputdownable… except…
SIDE NOTE: Our buddy-read conversation below shows that we had a very similar reaction to something… so SKIP THIS NEXT PART so your don’t go in with preconceived ideas ’cause there is SO MUCH to this story.

…except for when I wanted to cry but couldn’t ’cause I had to work the next day and didn’t want puffy eyes. <— They turn into total balloons! Yep… I had to put it down then. π
R. Renee: Iβm ugly crying as quietly as I can next to my sleeping husband. Every few minutes I gasp tho. π€£πππ I have 15% left and I refuse to finish it until I have a hangover book lined up. Itβs going to be epic!! π
Maryse:Β Iβm almost finished too, and Iβm scared and I donβt wanna cry right now. Eeeeeeeep!!! Lately Iβve developed this awful condition of HUGE puffy eyes the next morning (like I mean like BALLOONS!! I couldnβt be seen in public) if I cry the night before.Β And I had to work todayβ¦ soβ¦ *gulp*
MichelleS: …Iβm not crying. Youβre crying.
Maryse: I will be. πΒ ππ
bev: That buddy read 5 Year book had too many tears for me.Β But it also hit a little too close to home.
Cheryl:Β Just finished In Five Years. Um, *blinks* Bev, Iβm with you …Now I need something to get me out of this book hangover, like R. Renee said. Rainbows and Unicorns.
Mony: …great read over the weekend. Canβt say much as itβs a βtwistyβ book. Yup. I finished in the wee hours and it was really good.Β No comments on the endingβ¦mowhaha .
Lisa M: Ok I read all day & just finished In Five Years!!! Wow!!! Twists & tears & love!!!! Yup in my top 20 for 2021!!! Bagel & white fish I want one now!!! Always love everyoneβs recommendations they never let you down!!
Maryse: YAY LISA M!!!!!!! π Iβm so thrilled you loved it.
Maryse:Β P.S. I finished βIn Five YearsβΒ Definitely a FIVE STAR for me (very clever, and heartwarming and intriguing and addicting the whole way through and kept me guessing) and will make my Best of 2021 list for sure, but OMG!!!!!!!!!Β I did everything to keep my eyes from being a puffy mess today at work. YIKES!!!!!!!
MichelleS: Canβt wait for your review of In Five Years. Chewing my nails over here so I can βdiscussβ.
Maryse:Β MichelleSβ¦Β Iβm mad about 1 thingβ¦ or letβs just say annoyed and was grumbling. But it doesnβt take away from my love of the story as a whole, because of how clever it is, and how it played out, and how human every single one of them were.
OMG. LOVED IT.
5 STARS PLUS!!!! <— Just an INCREDIBLE, UNFORGETTABLE STORY!!!!! Relatable… and kind of magical. WOW!!! π€©Β So much to think about.

So after seeing your review, only the first bit so I went in blind, I dove in. I did read it pretty much straight through and I kept waiting for something to really grab me. And waited, and waited and then I was done. Respectfully, it didn’t do it for me. To each his own but for me it wasn’t bad but it was a bit meh for me.
Awwww…. well, maybe the next one will be the one!! π Let me know if you come across one you loved.
5 stars for me too – for keeping me riveted for a two days! Did I love where it went? Well, no. I’m a HEA girl at heart. I loved the friendship, and the leading men were just wonderful.
I read it as well. I was disappointed with the ending and left feeling like this wasn’t a love story after all. It was more of a friendship story.
I just finished it last night and i love that she made my jaw drop with how she ended but i can’t decide if i liked it or not!!!
I totally get it… there was SO MUCH anticipation and it seemed so obvious… and then ooooops! π
