So what’s everyone doing for Valentine’s Day? Big plans, or snuggling in? Me? I’m reading!! 😀 Big romance coming my way tonight, but in an angsty sounding book. A bit darkish too, so I may need emotional support tonight. It’s called Volition, and a few fellow readers have just finished and loved it!
Summer: Was up until 3am reading a really great book! It’s called Volition by lily paradis. I am not sure if it’s 5 star for me but the writing was excellent. It went from present to past through the entire book which I am really not a fan of BUT I could not put it down. I had to know what happens. It’s a love triangle but not in a way I have really seen before. Because it’s been a long time since I happened upon a book I could not put down I just had to share 🙂
Janet: I agree. Loved this book, I read Tight right after and I’m a huge fan of A. Torre and it was good, but I just couldn’t get this one out of my head. So totally f***ed up!!!!!!!

Book 4 of the Kane Trilogy is a novella & some extras like deleted scenes from books 1-3 & an “interview” with Jameson & Tatum. It starts 2yrs after book 3 ends. I think the author had wanted to do an extended epilogue but it turned into a book as she wrote. I read it last night & LOVED it!!! Absolutely perfect ending to their story.
I finished Volition yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to a discussion after others read it too.

I’m curious to see what you think about Volition. Cheryl needed a stuffed manatee snuggle at one point. And Tessa snuffled on him earlier after reading Flawed, but he’s clean now. 😉 I’m sayin’ nothin’ about it until you’re finished. Well, I already did on the other page but ignore those comments. Tate is a crazy hot mess (maybe even a tad neurotic!) but I liked that about her. 😉
I don’t know what to think yet about any of it… her high school self is of a privileged obnoxious mean girl but darker. Meaner. And her crew (other than Catherine), so far is… just as ick. I don’t know what to expect with this… her today self, though? I actually kind of like so far.

Almost done with Degradation and I’m liking it! It’s definitely a rollercoaster ride and both of them are pretty messed up but smoking hot together!
Yes Michelle Tate and Jameson I think will be my favorite messed up couple. I also loved Sanders. I was happy how the trilogy ended so was hesitancy to click completion why mess with a good thing. So I clicked anyways because everyone is loving it whats one more book

Maryse…I struggled with the 1st half but I reaaly enjoyed the second half. It’s a book you have to pay attention reading…for sure. I liked how it ended. Hayden Rockefeller…..I need one.
Right Erin?? When Hayden joined her in what she was doing at that part is when I really fell for him. *dreamy sigh* Oh! But when she said she wouldn’t burn to keep a certain other character warm, that was a toss-my-iPad-and-duck-under-the-pillow kind of moment! *eeeep!*
Yeah, I wasn’t overly impressed with the past scenes, and even the event that was the catalyst for her leaving was kinda no big deal (at least to me), but I did enjoy the present scenes in the more latter part of the book. Maybe because Hayden was in them so much. 😉
I know I was so disappointed in the catalyst that lead to her leaving….I mean really!!! The whole book I was questioning her relationship with her ‘soulmate’. I didn’t get it. The end explained a little but still so many questions.
But I loved Hayden….Especially the end…with the Sharpie.

I went back and forth trying to decide between Prick and Sweet Blood of Mine to read next. I really wanted light and Sweet and think I hit it perfectly. You’ll be done with it before I am so let me know what you think of Prick. I’d like to read it next if this one doesn’t suck me right in to reading the whole series back to back. I seem to have a weakness for excellent writing that simply flows and allows me to forget my surroundings.

Anna, quick question…do both books follow the same couple or are they about two different couples?
I think I saw some comments on one of these threads about mean girls? It was maybe about the recent group read ? Anyway I was jjust reminded of a SEP book, Ain’t She Sweet. It is about Sugar Beth who was the popular, rich, mean girl of her small southern town. SEP isn’t really *dark* but does put her heroines through the ringer. She also does humor very well.
I just grabbed her Heaven Texas cause my library does not have it anymore. If you like reading about football players Bobby Tom is a good one.
Her characters can make some very questionable decisions but I usually end up caring and rooting for them.
Amy I have so many quotes already highlighted and barely halfway done with the book. These kids, especially Justin, are so cute!

I have so many series started but unfinished that I actually created an “unfinished series” category on my Kindle app last night. I’m still trying to hunt down all the ones I want to continue reading to add to that category as a reminder to myself. I seem to do well with finishing trilogies but not so well when series get a bit longer or if I have to wait too long for the next book to come out.

Okay, Prick was sweet. Lighter on the angst than I expected, but still good and enjoyable. I wish it had more angst, but I did enjoy their sniping at each other.

I started The Lunar Chronicles Book !, Cinder, last night. Who recommended that? Amy or Michelle? probably… anyhoo… it’s awesome. I didn’t know it was a new take on the “Cinderella” story…. I know, I know… DUH…. her name is Cinder and he’s a prince… so it takes me a little while! She has an evil stepmother and two evil stepsisters and there’s going to be a ball… and I’m like, “hey… this sounds familiar”. LOL. Of course, it’s in New Beijing a bazillion years in the future where cyborgs and humans worry about the lunar people and war and a pandemic! So, right up my alley! Classic romance meets fantasy! woop! This should be good! and it is, so far. Such a totally clever take on this story.
I WAS going to go right into Book Two of the Life of Anna – but I needed a break from the harshness of that subject matter. I will go back, though. I am invested now and need to know more about Alex and to see if I am supposed to be hating or loving Devin, cause I can’t decide.
I also completely forgot about Pact. I should go back and read it. huh?

I say yes on The Pact. Definitely. Speaking of going back and reading…I finally finished the last 20% of Shadowfever and it was great! Now the dilemma…I’ve heard so many less-than-pleasant things about Iced and Burned that I’m leery of reading them. To be honest, I’m okay with walking away from that whole world and pretending that SF was the end of it, even with some unanswered questions that I don’t necessarily need answers to.
Did any of you ever watch the series In Treatment on HBO a few years ago? OMG, Gabriel Byrne’s accent. Ahem. Anyhow, there was one patient he had who left his practice because she said he saved her and she didn’t want to give him the chance to disappoint her. That’s kinda how I’m feeling with the Fever series. I don’t want to give it the chance to disappoint me with all I have heard about it. 😕 Make sense?
Amy – I really liked Iced. I didn’t think I would and avoided it for so long, but them loved the crazy Dani that vibrated around eating her candy bars and getting several hot guys interested in who she would grow up to be! I didn’t like Burned, because it was a “filler” book. Not really any story-line, just recapping and stuff.
We get scared from your recs? Hey – that whole “Life of Anna” didn’t come from you and that is the scariest reading I have ever done – it’s kind of making the Tied Man look tame. IT IS JEAN!!! Don’t say it isn’t so!

I recommended Cinder 🙂 Hey that’s two good recs for ya MichelleS I’m on a roll! (reminds me – Fabi was Station Eleven a bust for ya?) I finished reading the first three books and the final one is due out in the fall this year. I liked them all but have a soft spot for any of the storyline involving Cinder. The next one is a play on Red Riding Hood and book 3 Rapunzel. There’s also Fairest recently published that is Levana’s story that I want to read but waiting for a price drop.

Okay, okay…so a couple of neighborhood girls came over to raid my nail polish stash and play beauty shop. They know how particular I am about keeping it organized by brand, collection, etc., so no big deal. Anyways, my hubby didn’t hear me when I yelled upstairs to let him know they were coming up, and he comes strolling out of our bedroom with no shirt on…all 200 lbs of muscle and tats of him. The best part? He was scratching his, ahem, grapes. They started shrieking and giggling, and he yelled out in shock and it was hilarious! I told him don’t get upset and that he probably just ruined all other guys for them. *snicker* He’s not talking to me now. LOL!!!!!

Amy, when I was done with E&P I had to check out the author’s web site. I have to go back & Look around cause it looks like she posts about music and books. Anyway she has a post on is Eleanor fat. How some readers may be really upset that she is actually over weight. I guess it is a question she often is asked. She had a quote about how Park sees her,love that scene. “A stack of freckled heart shapes, a perfectly made Dairy Queen ice cream cone. Betty Boop drawn with a heavy hand.”

Bev, that’s awful if readers get upset over Eleanor being overweight. Good lord, not every character should have a perfect body and face and hair! Park’s attraction to her went so far beyond her looks, and that endeared him even more to me. That really was a good book!

My hubby would be *horrified* if I told him what you guys are saying about the girls…he’s still freaked out about it. it doesn’t matter that I was not far behind them, he’s still hung up on the fact that he’s over three times their age (they’re tweens) and he was in the hallway with them for all of, oh, like *2* seconds! Yeah, I have to say he’s a keeper…we’ve been together since senior year of high school and he still puts up with my kookiness. 😉

Amy, it’s Noah by Elizabeth Reyes. It’s the only “cougar” book I’ve ever liked, but it was so sweet, I loved it.
Tessa – oh, good topic… cougar books…. I haven’t read hardly any. The only one that comes to mind that I liked was one I can’t remember the title of. Her daughter died and she is grieving and he’s her daughter’s “friend” and much much younger. It’s not generally my thing.
I had to help my son with an essay last night and didn’t get to read much. BOO. So I am still finishing Cinder. So now that I know it’s a Cinderella story I am picking up ALL the elements, which makes it so fun. The orange car is the pumpkin carriage, right? And who is her fairy godmother? Is it the little android? And there will be no glass slipper, but she has that cyborg foot!!! Michelle, this story is just too sweet, and cool at the same time.

Michelle, I did squirrel away from Station Eleven to read Cinder. I got to 20% then got sidetracked. I’ll get back to it shortly. I’m heading to Las Vegas today and won’t be back until Saturday night. I’m not sure if that means more reading time or less reading time for me the rest of the week.

MichelleS it was a cool story I thought too and yes there are little details that are hidden all over – no fairy godmother though and no perfect HEA which I like even more. I laughed out loud quite a few times with how witty it was. I really enjoyed the change in pace. I’m finishing the novella just out for the Kane Trilogy and then I have to find some pnr to go back to next.
Fabi, yes I download all the freebies I post and sometimes more! I do have a system on my kindle. I’ve made collections on my home screen titled FREE * (meaning 1 star), FREE ** (2 star), up to 5 stars based on my interest in reading the book and I sort them like that. So anything in my 5 star collection I want to read asap and try to keep it smaller so I get to them. I just add them right off my carousel on my kindle and then remove them from my device since they would take up a ton of space but that way they are sorted in the collections already and I can remember easily which ones looked the best if I want to download and read later. It actually has worked out well for me and having a folder with the ones I want to read the most easily accessible really pushes me to read them. I’ve been routinely checking for free books and sales since last summer and have gotten some amazing freebies and found now more popular authors with free books when they are starting out. I also like when someone mentions a book on here and I will check and find I got it free. For example, Amy mentioned that AM Hudson series a while back and I checked and found I had 2 of the books I picked up for free already. Ok I rambled on for too long haha but that’s my system.

Have fun!! 😀 You have to stop by the bar right outside of Hershey Chocolate World in NYNY…they have the most *amazing* chocolate martinis in all kinds of flavors, and it is like drinking a spiked candy bar! I had waaaaaaay too many when we went there in December but they were so yummy. 😉

After Cinder, I’ve just picked up another cool read, Poison Princess, by Kresley Cole. Another series on my tbr for too long. It’s got me hooked though – very mysterious, apocalyptic, unique premise.
Michelle – is that part of her Arcana series? Or whatever it’s called? The YA novels? I heard they were good. I just can’t imagine Kresley Cole with no smut! She did it so well in Immortals After Dark!!! OH GAH! The werewolves that are Scots!!! swoon….
Yep MichelleS it’s the first book in the Arcana Chronicles. I loved it! I’m starting on the next one tonight. There is still quite a bit of romance and the tension between Evie and Jack is hot even without overt descriptions…it’s in the realm of the Covenant series on the romance/smut meter so far. Jack talks with a Cajun dialect and calls her bebe and other adorable/sexy things haha. Now I want to find more books with that dialect because it’s sooo HOT…I’m finding it as hot as the scot accent we see so often. Anyone have any suggestions because I’m all ears 😉
