SATURDAY MORNING BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!!! πΒ βΒ MARVEL COMICS FANS!!! AMAZON is having a SUPER-BARGAIN SALE ON THEM!! And I mean… SUPER-BARGAIN on a TON of these comics (some are even 0.80 cents!)!!!
Welp. My eyes are all puffy and red, and super-tight as if the lids are water-logged, ’cause I watched Me Before You last night and well… you know. I cried. And cried. And UGLY cried. And sobbed. I may start crying again, even.

My adorable puppy, Hobbit, stared at me in confused wonder. And then she jumped in my lap, and snuggled her head right into my neck and totally cuddled me. And I sobbed all over her ears. Then she feasted on the tears on my cheeks. Β Not sure if that’s a sweet thing, or a creepy thing. LOL!!!!!!
Whyyyyyyy????? Why do I do this to myself? Why? Because it’s a FREAKING AWESOME story, that’s why. One of the most devastatingly beautiful love stories ever. Even one of my best friends (Karai) from high school tried to come to my rescue:
Maryse: OMG I’M SO GONNA CRY. I’m watching ME BEFORE YOU. Ya’ll know I LOVED that book…
Amanda: I bawled like a baby
Acacia: So many tissues
Jennifer: I watched it yesterday!
Joeandcarrie: I ugly cried!!
Robin: OK who has Manny? Here’s a bellini. I’ll go look for him.
Michelle: I boohoo’d so hard! Great book, great movie!
Jenn: I ugly cried in the theater. It was bad.
Karai: As you well know I am a heavy metal horror fan. Not sentimental at all but this movie punched me straight in the feels!!
Maryse: The most beautiful happy delightful scene, and I’m already ugly crying…
Karai: Hang in there little buddy.Β Hugs!
Kristin: The movie is just as good, which is rare!
Maryse: Agreed!! They stayed true to the book, even the character-actors were EXACTLY right.
Autumn:Β My favorite ugly cry!!!! I read the book, but still haven’t watched the movie. but omgosh. This story is everything!!
Jane: I ugly cried for about a fourth of that movie! Haven’t cried that hard in a theater since Titanic- lol
Maryse: Oh sheesh, don’t even get me started over the Titanic. I locked myself in the bathroom, in the dark, and sobbed into a pillow, all alone, for half an hour over that one.
AND OMG am I paying for it today. After God Shaped Hole, and now this one (even though I had already read the book years ago) and now, I need something hilarious again. Any recommendations? There are a few very good-looking choices below, plus I have a few HIGH on my TBR list to sort through. π *sigh*
I need to laugh. My heart is so broken. Just as I knew it would be.

Morning! Happy Friday!!!
Good morning Grey!!!! π
Happy Friday and happy weekend my friend!!
Good morning!
Morning! TGIF EVEVERYONE
Morning. βΊ
Some of those goodies look fabulous!! I am trying to stow my twitchy one-click finger, but it isnt easy.
I’ve seen this twice today and have to share here.
https://www.buzzfeed.com/farrahpenn/19-things-that-are-100-true-when-youre-a-book-nerd?bffbmain&ref=bffbmain&utm_term=.do6NrB41V#.tw27mg4pn
Oh, Maryse. Relax with some oreos and let Hobbit play with Justin Bieber.
Bev, #4 is hilarious! Imagine if an author did that?
Actually, a movie did. The ending at theater was diff from dvd version. I cant remember which one, but it was 5+ years ago & was horror flick. I was discussing w/co-worker and was totally freaked that same movie had different endings!
I love that list….Hilarious!
#4 is Clue! I loved that movie.
Maryse, have you read any of the Charley Davidson books by Darynda Jones? That would be a good one to read next for something to break from the sad stuff. And…Reyes Farrow!!!
13!!!! OMG 13!!! Who hasn’t had to deal with 13?
And 19 is just beautiful. That should just be true everywhere. Anyone who thinks different is just being snobby.
Also, hiee! I’m reading my pick for me book that Kate chose, Juniper Smoke. I’m really loving it so far, but last night, I just crashed. Once little dude was put to sleep, I was out. I think staying up with Strange Hymn finally caught up.
I agree with Tasha! Those are hilarious and Reyes is HOT.
One question that’s bugging me. Why would a tech genius have his non-gaming tech company in San Francisco and say it’s Silicon Valley? *sighs* San Francisco is NOT in Silicon Valley. Most non-gaming tech companies are in Santa Clara County, aka Silicon Valley.
I’m starting Mature Content today. Yeah me!
For those of you who may have read Red Rising by (dreamy) Pierce Brown. This most excellent series continues with Golden Son, on half price sale now $4.99.
I am reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!!!! π !!!!! FINALLLLLLLLLY I can jump in. *squeeeeeee*!!!!
#13 BDB
Reyes is the darkest, most mysterious, most sexy!!
Awww Maryse, I considered watching it yesterday too but now reading about you I’m not sure I can handle watching it right now. π But will sometime soon. I am so excited there is a new Jewel E. Ann book. I LOVE her writing. And am all over it. Have you done the Jack and Jill series yet???? I think her books are funny and every other emotion as well. I just finished Vicious which was pretty good. I have been on a major YA fantasy streak for the last months. But I’ve been checking your blog and pausing to read your recs!!! Decided to do You by Caroline Kepnes for my book club. Hope I don’t scare everyone! But I sort of hope I do.
Carry the Ocean by Heidi Cullinan came out on audiobook a few days ago. Has anyone read that? I can’t decide if I want the audio or just the ebook.
I’ve read several of her books, but this one has been sitting in my tbr for a year or two now. I’ve been a little afraid of it’s angst level.
The movie could *never* be as good as the book (in the sense of connecting with it and all), but dammit the MBY movie was GREAT!! Weren’t Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke just the best? I didn’t really cry much the first time for whatever reason (maybe trying to look tough in front of hubby?) but the second time when I went with my friend, as soon as she sobbed I lost it and bawled.
OMG numbers 9 and 18…those are SO me. And then number 19 and the hyperactive run-on sentences and nail painting and discussing books and hugging and…yeah. Sums me up. π
I’m so glad I have y’all here and we all just “get” it. π
I’m reading American Hellhound, too! I’m loving Maggie and Ghost story. I remember Maryse, we were reading Fearless at the same time. Oh so good!
Holy moly…When Life Happened is SO FREAKING MINE!! I was just thinking yesterday how I hadn’t read an “other woman” book lately and how fun one of those would be. Score!
And then My Best Friend’s Ex…now THAT is a new storyline, at least to me. Click!
Maryse…is it his right front paw which earned Hobbit his name? He is so adorable!!
Hi Amy, I NEED When Life Happened too but seems not to be out as ebook until Monday, June 5. π
#5 Yes!! What a great idea. Like the academy awards. Not just best book in a certain genre, but Best hero in a CR. Best hero in a HR etc. I LOVE that idea.
Maryse that dog of yours is supercute π
That and the fact that if she doesn’t get a second breakfast or an elevenses she will eat Maryse while she’s sleeping.
Wonder why When Life Happened isn’t available in ebook??
Oh, duh! Her FB page says it’s coming June 5. Guess the people who bought pb’s got an early treat!
bev (and anyone else who want to join in)–we’re starting the buddy read on GR for A Stone in the Sea by A.L. Jackson on Sunday!
And double duh–I just saw your post, Marina! Sorry I repeated what you had just said! Sometimes I bring up my comment box and either don’t ‘refresh’ and/or start typing something in and don’t actually hit submit until 20-30 minutes later, so I totally missed your post!
Yeah that happens to me sometimes too Nay. I start typing a comment then get side-tracked and when I finally post it there’s other messages come in in between times.
Awww, I was ready to read When Life Happened. Guess I’ll have to pick something else.
Maryse, I just finished Sustained. Omg, so hilarious and I highlighted so many things either the kids said or did or what Jake said. A fun read!
Now for something a little more serious.
Yes Amy… she’s a rescue, and nobody knows exactly what happened to her. But the vets didn’t want to amputate her leg since she’s sort of still using it, and everything about it is normal (circulation etc…) other than she can’t straighten it out, and she can’t put real weight on it.
So she… hobbles around. But she is more agile than my Pimmie and can leap up and jump over fences. And when she runs because she’s excited and happy…. you can’t even TELL that she doesn’t have proper function of that leg.
And because she has to compensate for the lack of that leg (balance-wise etc), she’s developed all these weird little muscles in her back and hind quarters.
She also has tiny little scars on her back near her tail area, and one of her back legs (the knee) slips out of joint every once in awhile, too.
Suspected that she was either hit by a car, or she was attacked by a dog…
Poor sweet, but super happy and super lovable baby. She is AMAZING! :D!!!
Thank you Jan!! I do think she has the SWEETEST face and disposition.
Oh boy bev.., I better sleep with one eye open. π
Please someone… feed her quick! Whatever an elevenses is.
Maryse, do you have a dog named Hobbit but have never read or watched Lord of the Rings?
Double gasp.
*gasp*
*gasp*
Lol- I’ve also never watched Lord of the Rings, but I think I know what the hobbit is in reference to. That movie/movies? Is up there with Star Wars for me…just no interest.
Also, did you guys see Mariana Zapata’s reveal for her next book?! In 2 weeks and a soldier romance!! I’m gonna need that one right away! π
Oh, yay Maryse!!!! I can’t wait for your reactions!!!
Fabi I have read it. I didn’t find it terribly angsty. I almost always lean to book unless it’s Lin Manuel Miranda or David Sedaris Narrating.
Tasha…..what? Just what?
I’m not sure what to think/say to that.
I’ll be over in the corner.
Oooh Tasha. I heard a new one was coming, but a soldier? Intriguing. *runs to check out deets for new Maraiana Zapata book*
As for not having seen the LOTR movies (as we know them in our house LOL), well, that kind of high fantasy isn’t for everyone. *shrugs* I must say I’ve avoided the Hobbit movies. The smallest book out of all 4 books and they dragged it out/padded it into three massive films. Didn’t seem right. For me the charm of the original book seemed like it would be totally gone, so I never bothered. But I did like the LOTR films themselves. They did a pretty god job considering the epic scale of the books.
Technically I’ve seen all the Lord of the Rings movies. Except I fell asleep during ALL of them. Joke in my family is if there is an english accent, I’ll be asleep!!
I fell asleep through all of them too, but that’s because I demanded watching them at Alamo Drafthouse and a girl can drink a lot of wine in 3 hours.
bev… I HAVE watched Lord of the Rings, though. And I loved it! :D!!!
LOL R and Cheryl!!!!!!!!
But she hasn’t seen the original 3 Star Wars either.
*gasp*
Every little girl should meet Princess Leia.
I tried the Lord of the Rings books and only made it through the first one. The movies were fun though.
Bev, were you like me and SO happy to leave the shire, only to go back? Thus, the rest of the day you end up cursing the world?
I love the one thing you said. “Every little girl should meet Princess Leia.” YES! That! She’s the original feisty, kicks butt heroine. She’s a warrior and every little girl should know her.
Hi everyone! I am 75% through the Foxe and the Hound by R.S Grey and I’m really enjoying it. Lots of banter back back and fourth but the h and H but with some good feels!
Also, another vote for Leddy Harper’s Silenced! Great second chance romance, some intense moments for sure.
I am waiting to watch MBY when I am either alone or with my gal pals because I just know I’m going to be a mess LOL.
Happy weekend!
On the Island is on sale!!
Did y’all HEAR me???
ON THE ISLAND IS ON SALE!!!! It’s only 1.99, normally 11.99!!!
I loved the movies and then tried the books and nope.
I know they are beloved and a lot of craft and world building went into the writing, but just not for me.
I was surprised because I like fantasy. But like the part with the talking trees in the books just seemed to go on and on and on.
lol That was one of the parts I liked. I was mostly upset with each chapter ending on a CH, only to be change to another character. By the time you got to the original character, you totally lost the angst and anticipation.
Well, that and the shire. Freaking shire.
Silenced by Leddy Harper….no words to describe how freaking amazing this book is. It’s Archer’s Voice….on crack. It has the same basic outline as Archer’s Voice but SO, SO, SO more intense. READ IT!!!!!
According to Mariana Zapata’s fb, the new book is called Dear Aaron and it’s supposed to be released in a couple of weeks. A girl writing to a deployed soldier and they fall in love. π
Sometimes I scroll through my kindle, nook, or look at my physical books and am amazed at the good stories I have amassed. I then wonder why I haven’t read them.
Hmm….am I sensing a BR?? But if we do it we do it right.
I read My Best Friend’s Ex and I loved it! It was hilarious and sweet. It was more of a slow burn book and the sexual tension in it was great! The banter between the leads was so funny. There’s also a rant in the book that had me laughing so hard that I think my next door neighbors may have heard me.
Lauren – I just one-clicked Silenced. I loved Archer’s Voice.
Jan – I want that Mariana Zapata book right NOW!!!
Bev – I have so many books I haven’t read or listened to in my library and when I finally get to them I am always like ‘why did it take so long for me to read this!’
Ok, Amy I bought On the Island. My major hold-up with reading the book has been he’s 16 and she’s 30. I’m sure you’ll be telling me I told you so when I’m finished, once I finally start reading it. π
The new Mariana Zapata book sounds good.
I’m reading Foxe and the Hound. Just started it, but so far funny banter and building sexual tension between the H and h.
I wish I would have known Cheryl, I bought it for everyone who had it on their TBRs! I loved it. I was worried about the same thing but it proved to be unfounded.
It sounds worse than it is. It really is a good read, Cheryl.
R, how is the book coming?
I’m banging my head on the desk enough to put a dent in it, but other than that, it’s going! Thanks for asking. π
Three things:
1. I bought a spiralizer yesterday and am going crazy to try it…silly me has not one piece of food in house to spiralize. Grrrr
2. I love the smell of fresh cut grass. I could sniff it all day. It’s total aromatherapy.
3. I ran out of flavored cream and wanted flavored coffee so…I added unsweetened cocoa powder….O.M.G….YUM!!!
Good morning ladies.
1. Just making my first cup of coffee now. I wake up anticipating it. Medium roast, half and half, raw sugar. Yet…..I suck at making coffee. Never taste as good as others.
2. I’m thinking of my summer reading list aka Leslie’s Buddy Read Challenge. I’m going to try to read 3 this month: Fearless (Jan) Low (Maryse) Rush (R). All off my tbr!!
3 Starting my morn with this

For our British friends…..just my heart goes out to you.
Again? Seriously? WTF is wrong with people? I’ve been off the grid most of the weekend and just saw the news in London. Ugh.
3 things:
1. Taking the hubs to Austin for his birthday to eat and go to Antone’s. Having Indian for lunch, sushi for dinner, and chicken & waffles for breakfast. I’m already full just thinking about it.
2. It’s POURING and yet I’m a girl so I still had to do my hair. π
3. I picked up Dear Agony out of the blue because first person helps with my writer’s block and I’m really liking it!
R….hey you have JD.
https://nerdist.com/lin-manuel-miranda-music-playlist-spotify-writers-block/
Dronk sake & Dance in the rain for his b day.
Pink champagne instead of sake, but dancing is a possibility! #daydrinking
Thanks for the playlist!!! Just downloaded it to Spotify. I’ll take all the help I can get!
I love reading everyone’s three things! π
Three things:
1. I have a bird nest in a bush in my backyard with four baby birds who just hatched three days ago. I’ve been taking pictures of them daily to track their growth while my heart just melts.
2. Can’t wait to get my hands on this: https://chicprofile.com/opi-california-dreaming-summer-2017-collection
3. My alcohol tolerance is significantly lower now that I’m working outside the home…still trying to figure out if that’s a good or bad thing. *snort*
Oh Cheryl, I think you’ll love OTI. I’m not drawn to older woman/younger man stories, but this one stole my heart. The way it all plays out and the time span of the story are what makes it work with no squeamishness or cringing at all. It was definitely one of those where I read the last page, hugged my iPad, closed my eyes, and just sighed. Was that cheesy enough to convince you? π
I’m 2 pink champagnes and a Hawaiian coconut porter in. Stay tuned for dancing…
Pink champagne always makes think of An Affair to Remember.
I love that movie! The Cary Grant version anyway!
bev–Same here. I don’t care for older woman romances, but I’m really looking forward to the On the Island buddy read!
Leslie–sometimes I add Nestle’s Quik to my coffee, and it’s yum too!
Have fun, Robin!
Three things:
1) Nashville has become Smashville, and I’m LIVING for hockey right now! GO PREDS!!!
2) Since yesterday morning, we’ve had five turkeys, two deer, two bats, one rabbit and about a hundred squirrels in our front yard.
3) I had a half pint of Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food for lunch.
R, the only version that counts. One of my favorites.
Nay! Do you live in Nashville? ? How many concerts do you watch? How do you feel about random Internet strangers visiting?
Oh fine bev. Go to Nashville but not Texas.
Drinking mezcal now… π
Oh lord. My husband just mafe me go to the bar to get our drinks. I thought he was being lazy until i saw the bartender. That’s true love folks.
I found The Butterflies by Kim Waldron this weekend! I’ll be done with it tonight and that makes me sad! I literally didn’t put it down once I started it Friday! Excellent read, kimberleywaldron.com is her site with the info. If you like a good thriller, then this is the one you should read next!
Thank you so much Janie! I’m looking it up right now. π
Oh there too.
We can go find Lyle Lovett, Pat Green, Charlie Robinson, and the best of all Willie Nelson.
Oh good lord. Mafe? Cocktails are working!
Wait. Shouldn’t your husband be the one drinking?
He’s doing his fair share lol!
bev–I’m about 20 miles outside of Nashville. I used to go to a lot of concerts when I was younger, but I think the last one I went to was R.E.M. about 23 years ago. Wow! I didn’t realize it’d been that long. These days, I’d rather go to a sporting event than a concert.
Was the bartender female?
1. Little dude has hit rebellious stage. Grrr
2. We did a science experiment to make slimy crystals.
3. I forgot to eat lunch.
Whoa. Tessa just gave R’s story a twist.
Well, it’d be a super sweet thing if the bartender was female. Then he’d be making sure there isn’t any flirting while he’s out with R.
Hmm.. I shall stay silent on the matter…
bev…I’m reading Torch Against the Night, and I forgot how brutal it can get for a YA read. Poor Helene. π But I’m enjoying it so far.
I was poking around on Amazon and came across the upcoming release Without Merit by Colleen Hoover.
Holy.
Freaking.
MOLY!!!!
But…but…it’s not until October DAMMIT!!! *sigh*
That would be very sweet. Unless:
She is his mistress. And this is the weekend that they start to gaslight R. (Maryse’s favorite version.)
It is a guy. He is cocky and slays R with one look. He makes R’s husbands drinks extra strong so that he will pass out and he and R can meet later on in the night. (Amy’s favorite version)
It is a guy and R’s husband sent her over to flirt and pick him up for the night. (Fabi’s favorite version)
It is a woman and he sent R over to pick her up for the night. It is his birthday he says. (R’s least favorite version even more so than the gaslighting)
Amy, I know right? It does not give the characters an easy road. Very violent.
Or, you know, the bartender was a hot guy and her husband knew she’d like as eye candy. lol
You know, I apparently never had a Spotify account. So, I now remedied that.
Amy, why can’t YA be brutal?
*giggle* I like my version of bev’s hypotheticals. π
Tessa…I just forgot how brutal this series can get, especially when it’s adults doling out the brutality on children and teens. There was a scene in the previous book which was REALLY tough to read.
Lol, Tessa.
It is a JD look a like and R’ husband knows how she appreciates that. R flirts and then goes back to her husband. They leave the bar. As soon as they step outside they sprout wings( R’s magenta to the palest pink, his cobalt blue) and fly away together. One day on a trip to Texas a Little Dude walking down the street picks up a feather that seems too vibrant to be just a bluebird feather. He tucks it in his pocket and runs to catch up with his mom.
(Tessa’s favorite version)
I think this is pretty great, though I still can not wrap my head around the tragedy.

Just finished an ARC of Make Me Stay by Sidney Halston. It’s the one after Pull Me Close that you recommend. This one was just as good (maybe better).
I can’t say much without spoiling it. I’ll just say…amnesia.
Thank you Gina!! I loved Pull Me Close!!! π
When Life Happened is finally available in ebook. YAY!!!
*snort* Oh, bev! You kill me.
OMG bev I love you! I’m on my 43rd cocktail so I shan’t comment…
OMG bev I love you! I’m on my 43rd cocktail so I shan’t comment…
Maryse, have you read any 5 star books lately (except GSH since I read and loved that one :)?
Sadie… I have not. I did just read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I enjoyed, and was so interesting and intricate, but for me I’d say 4 stars to 4.5 stars for that one.
I read When It’s Real yesterday and loved it! I love pretend relationships and this one didn’t disappoint – 5 stars!!
Bev, ROFL
Wait Maryse…wasn’t Sustained a recent 5-star read for you?
Heck yes it was. But I know Sadie. I know what she’s looking for. π
P.S. Amy… she’s a total Marmy. π
Um… Anyone else wants R to respond, especially after 43 drinks?
Ohhhh…now I see. π
Oh, I forgot to say, Juniper Smoke was awesome, except the last two chapters. Those chapters made no sense outside needing a CH. But, 49 out of 51 chapters were perfect.
Tessa…isn’t that the one with the crazy beautiful cover?
Yep. I’m gonna read book three when it comes out. That should make up for the end of 2. Maybe they’ll do a non angsty ribbon and just continue the story. If you read it, you’d get why I was so baffled.
Thanks Amy, that book sounds great! Now I don’t know what to read next.
If she likes YA she should read that one Amy liked. Did you consider it a Marmy, Amy?
Good morning…and can someone please tell me where all these feathers came from?
R – I think it had something to do with a little Big Bird Fantasy your husband wanted you to act out, and it was his birthday after all!!
Naked pillow fight?
R., *gentle hangover hugs*
Of course I “got” your Twilight reference. *giggles softly*
Shockingly, no hangover. And there was dancing so I kind of expected one! We did forgo chicken and waffles for In and Out Burger though. Yumm!
bev…which YA? Was it Thirteen Reasons Why? I would consider that one Marmy-ish but on the lighter side of Marmy, even though my heart still clenches and I get a lump in my throat every time I see the title or even the Netflix series anywhere. Or was there a more recent YA…
R, sounds like you had a great time with hubby. π Alcohol, food, and your special love…doesn’t get much better than that. Although a weekend with the lovely ladies here in a blankie fort sleepover would be a close second!
We had a blast but I’m really happy to be home! A blankie fort filled with books sounds really awesome about now!
Amy, Female of the Species.
R, glad you had a great time. π
Ohhhhh yes, Female of the Species…that one is heavy and gut clenching enough to be called a Marmy. π
I shall be reading that one next, I believe. YAYYYYYYY!!!!!! My book life is so good! π
Maryse, are you talking about Female of the Species? Because if so…squeeeeeee!!!! And I just chose Sustained as my next read. Looks like we’re both in for some treats!
