SATURDAY BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. First… I’ve just posted Shortcut! 68 New Pre-orders Added to the Main New Release Page… AND!!
Second… THAT!!! ————–>
I’ve not heard of this author yet but this was JUST RELEASED (Traded by Rebecca Brooke) and the blurb delighted me ’cause it made me do this: UGH! This blurb totally made me GRRRR!! And… YAY!!! Sounds like something that could be right up our alley. Her husband trades her for his debt. Of all the &*%$#@&*!!!
“I try to be the best wife possible for him. After all, he took me on when no one else would. Now–he’s in debt and owes more money to the loan shark than we can possibly repay. But, don’t worry, he’s come up with a solution, it’s just not one I was expecting.
…I’ve been TRADED…”
Okay so… I must admit temporary defeat with my latest “Currently reading…” post. ‘Cause… I squirreled after a quarter into it, and started Kristen Ashley’s latest instead (which IS holding me close and doing everything I love for a book to do to me). So why did I give up so fast? Well, it’s not an official “dnf” it’s more just… for now, ’cause I know at some point, the unique story-telling method will click with me, right? I mean how could it not, considering how crazy my own fellow readers are over it. *sigh*
Maryse: *sigh* You guys… I’m struggling. It’s… kind of hard to understand through all the technical mumbo-jumbo, I dunno who’s ship is good, who’s ship is bad, all the ship names are…? Why we’re having to shoot everyone, who’s “byteme” (I keep forgetting… then I keep remembering, it’s her… and I’m all… right right right…!!!). LOL! Because it’s in document/email/video/personal journal format, the story flow is SO fragmented to me. Choppy (but that fits the “style” of the documentation so I get it). It’s so unique… but it’s hard for me to stay focused on it.
Michelle: It’s a little bit of a puzzle Maryse. You are left guessing who they are talking to until it’s revealed. It comes together but as someone said it’s a show you book and not tell you. I loved reading the documents and putting the pieces together since I like to not have everything spelled out but again you are dropped into a story and have to catch up. Everything is revealed slowly but I thought that was brilliant how they paced the flow of information – felt like I wasn’t reading a story but was more ‘real’ that way. Keep going!
fabi: Maryse, you’re a great sport for trying it but it doesn’t sound like you’re connecting with it. I always tell myself (and have heard it said many times) that life is too short to spend time on a book that we are not into. Think of your tbr! Not that I’m trying to steer you away from it, but please don’t plow through on our account if its giving you trouble. It actually sounds like a difficult one to attempt outside your “love it” genres with its alternative presentation.
Michelle: Ditto
and you really are a great sport for trying a new genre you do not normally read. I still have high hopes that it will pick up for you. There’s a lot to come and I wouldn’t get bogged down in the details if that helps.
Maryse: EVERYONE loves it… only a precious few felt the “bog-down” like Michelle mentions, so I’m sure this is just the initial getting into it “start” hump. Especially for me, ’cause I’m not used to this kind of “world” building.
Well that said, I’m in my reading groove now with Kristen Ashley (Walk Through Fire (Chaos) and as usual, she always comes to my rescue! LOL!! 😉 Trust the KA alphas. They will put you through the ringer, and the ride will be so fun!
In the meantime, I (and many of you!) found us goodies for the weekend!

Wrenching. Just ask Tessa.
“
- Every Which Way by Calia Read <— OHHH THE HEARTACHE ALERT (although for some reason, I can’t find the kindle version, only the paperback)? BUT!! Amy recommends this one, too! “Did you ever read Every Which Way by her? Thank you Kellie!! 😀
I’m currently reading the Kristen Proby – New Orleans Boudreaux series and it is quite good and steamy. I’m on the second book. I have already found what book I’m reading next. I can’t believe I missed the release of this. The Slayer – Kele Moon. 2nd book in the Untamed Heart Series. I love this author. I may have to jump to this book immediately. Enjoy
I love her too!! I LOVE Kele’s MMA guys.
I’m soo excited to read one of her books. You’ve mentioned it before. Her books make you feel like your visiting family. You’re so entrenched in their lives that you feel all emotions… Both the female and male characters have such strong personalities that you can’t help but root for them.
Gut wrenching??? Looks like I’ll be 1-clicking If He Had Been With Me ; ) Just read The Fall Up and Reckless Abandon – both new authors to me and both 5 Star Reads!!!!! Nuts is still on the kindle. Had to put it down : (
Wait – I lied. Haha! Only Aly Martinez is new to me. Now I want to read everything she’s written. The Fall Up was amazing!!
Jenny, Aly Martinez’s Wrecked and Ruined series is awesome! Also her On The Ropes series! So good! I just finished The Fall Up and really liked it! She is just such a great author!
That deal on the Thompson Sisters series is awesome. I loved every single one and each is unforgettable! Highly recommend to those who haven’t read them!
I started Wither and it sucked me right in! I’m literally on the edge on my seat…..talk about anxiety!
I have been very squirrelly lately. Still need to finish the end of The Fall Up… I finished The Play. It’s very hot but also very emotional. I started Illuminae this morning when I saw your rec. The raves and reviews are CRAZY! And, I saw it all over the bookstore today too. The transition is tough, I agree. But I’m going to try to forge ahead and try not to worry about remembering all the names? Just want to read it before I hear too much? The hard cover is really unique… May need to buy it and read it that way instead of kindle…
OMG Jean I’m excited by you saying that!!! I LOVE book-anxiety!
Haha, I know me too! I’ll keep you all updated, just getting started.
Gah, I seem to be in a book slump. NOTHING is appealing to me. Think I’m just tired. Maybe I’ll go for a run and think on it.
So, Jean- The Fall Up was good? I’ve had my share of book anxiety lately, so I think I want something different.
Cheryl, it was a good, sweet, quick read, not a lot of angst though.
awwww, I HAD to buy On Paper. “playboys make dangerous playthings” It sounds so cute.
Thanks fabi! I haven’t read any of them, but did see The Maze Runner movie which I loved! I will check them all out!
OK, let me go check On Paper…swore I wasn’t gonna buy another book today, but that does sound good!
One clicked The Rest Falls Away. On Paper looks really good and Wither too! I finished Soulless from the Halloween list and that was pretty good. And I started The Opportusnist this morning and am halfway through. This is a series I’ve put off for a couple years bc I’m a scaredy cat, lol. But I have a steady stream of loans right now and this is one thats about to go back so I bit the bullet! 😛 So far I must admit I don’t really like Olivia, I think she’s slightly cray and I’m not all that fond of Caleb either so far so I’m not really rooting for them, lol. But it is keeping me entertained and I’m curious to see what happens. I have The Language Of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh next in my lineup of loans. It’s about a girl who kind of fell through the cracks in the foster system. I’m still on hold for Illuminae so I’m a little jealous, lol. My copy is in audiobook though so I hope it won’t be too hard to follow.
CRAP! I didn’t realize Every Which Way can’t be found on Kindle anymore…WTH?!? That’s how I read it (on my Kindle app) and nowyou guys can’t share in it’s awesomeness with me. 😐 Now I’m on a mission to track it down on ANY platform or at least find out why…
Jean! You used one of the magic words…anxiety!! Is it a complete series? If it is, then that’s my read this weekend…if not, I’m thinking it will be the OTHER Wither (Chemical Garden series). 😉
Maryse…thanks for another great list, especially one that had my heart and tummy leaping a BUNCH as I was going through it! *squeezy hug*
Just to clarify, Stygian is M/M PNR. I wouldn’t call it a “dark” read, although it does have it’s deep topics. I finished it last night and I’m still reeling from it. (from part of my review—> It is a brilliant story expertly executed. I took my time reading the book. The characters are so real that I feel like I met and got to know them in real life. I finished reading last night and I know that Watts, Kennedy, Quince and Jeremy will remain in my heart forever.
Yay Jenny!!! 😀 Keep me updated on IHHBWM when you start it! I’m telling ya though, it’s a combo gut-heart punch…in other words, perfect. 😉
You hear that, Maryse? *raises hands in surrender* I’m just sayin’… 😛
Amy, Wither is first book in series and looks like 2nd book isn’t out yet but slated for release this year maybe? Damn, what have I gotten myself into…….can’t stop readimg it now.
If He Had Been with Me…OMG….I read this for the publisher way back in my blogging days…..yes I sobbed but it’s worth it…I adored that book. Lately, I’m having trouble finding a book that holds my interest therefore I’ve been coloring
Amy…I read Every Which Way and checked my Kindle library and have it although it’s no longer on Amazon…just strange but my head is always in the sand so I don’t know if perhaps a reason why was out to every one.
Amy – Will do with a box of tissues! Lol
I read the first KA Chaos book today. Own The Wind. It was good but skimmed through ALOT. I assume they get better since everyone is raving about this new book.
Harper Sloan new book Perfectly Imperfect is up for pre order, release date November 17
Thanks Jean. I’m just sitting down again and still trying to figure out what I am reading next. Ugh!
What is everybody reading?
Cheryl… what are you in the “mood” for? If you could have any kind of story in the world.. what would it be?
Thanks Theresa! I’m gathering the latest “pre-orders” and making a list…
Hi Kim!!!
Okay now I gotta check out this gut-wrencher… both of you are suckers for angst punishment just like me!! 😀
i am just so book lost. I have just had the ugliest book cry ever. And I want to cry some more. Not little tears. Nope. I need to ugly cry some more. And I don’t do that. Ever. I am crushed. Broken. Devastated. I knew it would end bad. I read all the warnings. I saw it coming. But I thought, no, I won’t cry. It will just be a little angsty. I will be disappointed. Well. I was so wrong. How the heck do you get over Carnage? How the heck to I explain to my husband I am grieving over a book?
Awwwww Sharon!!!!
SO MANY OF US here ugly cried on that one, too. *big squeezy snuggle*
Sit down with a nice romantic comedy, and some tissues for residual tears. And chocolate!
These are all on my TBR list… I figured I would post them in case they are on anybody else’s list 🙂 Two of them are free today!
Naughty King by Michelle A. Valentine .99
Feisty Princess by Michelle A. Valentine .99
Bound by Honor by Cora Reilly .99
Twisted Bond by Emma Hart .99
Tangled Bond by Emma Hart .99
The Scene by Roxy Sloane (FREE!)
Kiss the Sky by Krista Ritchie (FREE!)
Monster Prick by Kendall Ryan .99 preorder
Wed to the Bad Boy by Kaylee Song .99
I have resorted to M and M’s. And I am a glutton for punishment, and Tissues, I started Carnage 2. Here’s hoping I don’t run out of tissues and candy.
Maryse, hmmm, that’s the difficult, big-money question. Usually I read a blurb and bam it catches my attention, I read the sample and then I know that’s the one to read next. 😉 I just want something that involves maybe post-college age MC’s, a strong heroine, maybe a love triangle, funny, some angst, and that’s not mind-f*uckery.
Kim, right?!? I remember loving the uniqueness of the pacing and her “voice” in telling the story…the narrative flow, I guess it would be called. UGH, I’m getting teary-eyed again. *sniffle* See, Maryse? Wait…
*scrolls up*
She’s gonna check it out! That’s progress!! *giggle* Seriously, Maryse…just check out my previous gushing comments and Tessa’s reaction as she was reading it. 😉
Sharon, are you familiar with our stuffed manatee named Manny around here? We share him to snuggle with and snuffle on when we ugly cry over a book…that is, when we don’t snuffle on each other’s shoulders. 😉 And it happens often since some of us LOVE to read ugly-cry books. Here, wanna borrow him? *hands stuffed manatee to Sharon* Carnage was a rough one…
Cheryl, I was going to ask if you wanted to try out Wither with me, but it’s dystopian. Not Jean’s Wither (she’s taking one for the team in reading that first-in-series book *snort*) but Wither from the Chemical Garden series. Or I thought I would finally try out the first Mara Dyer book. Or Fabi’s rec of Under the Never Sky. See a pattern in what I’m craving right now?
OR maybe I’ll finally check out Rush or Kulti. Or Five Stages of Falling in Love. I just noticed those on one of my Kindle collections. DAMMIT!!! Freaking book ADD is taking over. I know what will help… *sips pumpkin pie martini* Ooooh, that will definitely help. 😛
LOL!!! * snort*
Wait……wait…..what? You haven’t read Kulti???? Where were you? Was that when you were the living dead?
Sharon, not all of us like those ugly cry books. And some of us(not me mind you) think the others(not naming names) may be odd.
And no one likes others snuffle on them—-unless you are a baby. Baby snuffle is ok.
Amy, yeh not wanting dystopian or pnr. You need to read Kulti. It’snot one of your gut and heart punch one’s, but it’s really good!!
Haven’t read Rush…
Hello Marsye,
Just finished an incredibly amazing, complicated, psychological, alpha-male/brilliant female series:
Uncovering You 1-11 by Scarlett Edwards. Crazy unusual. Would love your review…
Whooo BEV! You’re feeling a bit feisty tonight, my friend!! I like it. 😛 Even if you are trying to bias Sharon a bit with your MEAN words. *pblttttt*
Yes, I think Kulti was right around the time that I was accused of being zombified and some of the ladies here started stealing my earrings and makeup and polish. Y’all sucked.
And for the record, SOME of us don’t mind snuffle between friends…it washes off. But we won’t snuffle on you, Bev. 😉
Oh Maryse, sorry Illuminae didn’t work out for you. If you’re not in it from the start, don’t force yourself and review it badly. I’m nearly 60% and just about dying of anxiety. I’m a huge Sci fi movie fan though, I’m totally digging it, I can see this book as a movie in my head. Enjoy Kristen Ashley, I’ve heard nothing but good things! I’m looking forward to The Play next.
Cheryl…Rush was one with the blind guy. It’s part of the Cityscape series, I think, but it can be read as a standalone. Any luck deciding what to read?
I’m gonna make a final decision once I finish another martini…or three… *hee hee*
Ya know, screw it…I’m making a choice and sticking to it no matter what. Wither it is! 😀
Jean I think I have that book, hope it works for you.
It’s funny how bev was talking about how snuffling was gross and Cheryl said “it’snot”
LOL!
Ew.
Thank you Rebecca!! I don’t doubt it’s got that something special that I was just about to hit… but I’ll try again in a bit. 😀
Have any of you read end of day and middle of knight??? OMG amazing!! Could not put it down
Jenn I’ve been really antsy about reading this series!!! But isn’t there a 3rd book to this series??? Trying so hard to wait. Love this author.
Amy, I’m gonna need Manny. Carnage 2 made me cry even more! Going to take a but of a book (and tissue break) today. Tomorrow is a whole other story! Happy reading everyone!
Amy, I didn’t decide, just fell asleep early. Think that was part of the problem- I was really tired.
Well, hot damn, I just saw the saturday breaking news alert. I think Traded is what I was looking for. 😉 Gonna go check it out…
Carnage I still shiver…
Did you get the email from alessandra Torre? Doing an anthology with a short story after Hollywoid Dirty. Yeah.
I think Callie Hart and K. C Lynn are about to announcement books releasing November 17. Callie Hart’s Rogue, since she left such a cliffy on Rebel!.
Got that email too. Can’t wait for that short story. Also read her “50 shades fanfic” on wattpad. I just LOVE that author! Was debating on starting the Girl in 6E series, since she does have a new book coming out on the 10th. Not sure why that series hasn’t appealed to me, I usually love everything she writes.
Read the sample of Traded. The writing is ok, it does have dual POV’s, which I have to agree with Amy this time, detracts from the angst of the story. Unsure.
Reading Untamed, really drags allot of Griffin thoughts!!!!!
Bummer on the dual POV’s… *sigh*
I LIKE NOT KNOWING what he’s thinking!!!! That makes it more emotional, or frightening and wonderfully confusing… gives me all sorts of feels until it all comes to a head.
Well. Okay. LOL! 😛
Thank you SO much for telling us about your “find” Eve!!! I just added it to the top of the bargains list! It sounds awesome. *hug* 😀
Where is everyone this Saturday afternoon? I finished Career in Evil and now need to think of my next read. Still have not read Cold hearted rake. But I have been in odd mood lately. Just going with whatever random reading mood takes me and reading pretty slow. Been kind of great, lol.
Maryse how is the KA treating you?
I am here, bev!! I’m enjoying it. Not the best one from this author, that I’ve ever read, but maybe it’s because I’ve read so many. Still good. I see where everyone teared up. It didn’t affect me as drastically, but it still has a good resistance for the first half.
I just finished The Dumont Diaries. Figured I couldn’t go wrong with a fav author. I enjoyed it, a quick, smexy read with a twist. Got me out of my book slump. Now maybe I’ll start The Girl In 6E. 🙂
Dual POVs…yeah, they don’t work for me like they did at one time. If I’m only in HER head, then I can feel all the anxiety and worry and heartache she does because I have no idea what the heck is up with him. If I have HIS thoughts then I already know what’s going on with him, so it knocks the angst down several notches.
And we all know it’s not as *ahem* titillating if we are in his mind when “it all comes to a head”…figuratively speaking, of course. 😛 Hey, left the door open on that one, Maryse…
I’m glad you are out of your slump Cheryl. Not sure still what will be next, well I think a cartoon first, lol. Inside Out in a couple hours when home. Then read. I have so many I have lined up just waiting for the mood strike.
I am totally going to make a list here just from my kindle. Not the ones lined up on my nook or borrowed or sitting in a pile, a leaning pile, in my room. Ok here goes cause I feel like talking and typing, lol.
Some sort of Happy by Melanie Harlow
In the Fields by Willow Aster
Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas
The Cloud Roads by Martha Wells
The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Commodity by Shay Savaged
Star Dust by Emma Barry
Hawthorne and Heathcliff by RK Ryals
Throne of Glass by Sarah j. Maas
Mind Games by Carolyn Crane
Here’s Looking at You by Mhairi Mcfarlane
An Untamed State by Roxane Gay and so on and so on and so on
then there are my unfinished but I will finish books like Vegeance Road, Fear Me, the Girl with all the Gifts, and The House and so on and so on……
I remember the Dumont Diaries, Cheryl…not my favorite of hers, but then again I read Black Lies and Tight before the Diaries so there was a lot to live up to. 😉 Let us know if 6E works out for you!
This is embarrassing as I have 200 books pulled up on my home screen as my to be read soon books. so that is a very tiny fraction. LMAO
But really not funny. If I was reading 200 books a year not a problem but I’m not.
Yes sometimes dual pov can take the angst down a notch. But it can sometimes make the romance so very delicious.
Bev…obviously you know I’m throwing in a vote for In the Fields. 😉 There’s just something I love about books set in a time before cell phones, internet, etc.
The Girl With All the Gifts was an odd one for me with how it went from mysterious to slow and then finally picking up again…but when it picked up, good lord did it pick up! I hated Dr. Caldwell, that stupid b!tch. Sorry. 😕
You’re right, Bev…the romance CAN be delicious that way! I guess the diminished angst from a dual POV is good for when I need to decompress after a crazy intense read. And believe it or not, even I sometimes need something a little less intense. 😉
Amy Stardust is a book I saw some pretty good reviews for. It takes place in the 60s and she is a divorced single mom(gasp) and he an astronaut (big swoon for that time). People seemed to have fun with it. I saw some say they imagined I Dream of Jeannie house, lol. I guess not cliché sixties and they made up a NASA like program. I am kind of now talking myself into it.
Has anyone seen Inside Out?
ok one thing about pov. It does allow for looking for all those little moments. I love that. When you do not know what he is thinking and you look for the little hand touches, or abruptness when maybe jealous or hurt, or the special smile. Or look up and he is looking……..or not looking. That really is fun.
See I am chatty chatty today.
Oh In the Fields I forgot about but really wanted to read that when it came out! Well obviously for that list, I’m going to say read Red Rising Bev…duh 😉
I just spent 8 hours unpacking. Whew. I’m not done but at least we can walk through the house now. —25 boxes of books— :-0. I am SO looking forward to reading again tonight. Illuminae has been calling my name all day.
Just finished Wither by Amy Miles and absolutely loved it! I could not put it down! Totally reminded me of Until The End Of The World so if you liked that, I highly recommend this one! No cliffhanger, but set up for the next book! Ugh, my heart is on the floor!
Jean, you pulled out the UTEOTW card andddd I’m weak and going to buy it right now.
Amy, I decided to start The Play instead of 6E. I did decide to get the audible version of 6E and I’m going to start it tomorrow when I go running.
Anyone read 6E? I know book 3 comes out in a few days.
I hope you like it Michelle!
Haven’t read 6E yet (not sure why because of course I have it). Hearing great things about The Play. Do those books have to be read in order?
I don’t know what to start now….
I just started Inside Out. And so far REALLY enjoying it. This little bit from Sadness made me think of here.:-P
“Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life’s problems.”
Jean, even though they are standalones, the stories/characters are interconnected, so yeh they should be read in order.
Bev, Inside Out??
Thanks Cheryl!

Ahh, now I get the cartoon reference, Bev.
Jean, that is unless you don’t want to read the first two books. There’s enough reviewed in The Play, that you wouldn’t be lost. Although, so far I liked the first book The Pact the best. (but I’m only at 30%).
Bev, I haven’t heard of Stardust (sounds intriguing, though!) but I have seen parts of Inside Out…and yes, that line from Sadness does fit us here! Well, according to you it’s only us odd ones. 😛
Michelle…In the Fields is SO good and took some turns I totally wasn’t expecting, some good and some absolutely heartbreaking. I was crying at one point ’cause it was just…that…sad. Let me know if you read it.
Ooooooooh Jean, Michelle is right…you pulled the UTEOTW card, and you know we’re suckers for that one! I *was* going to start CG Wither (finally) but now I think I’ll be reading your Wither. Tell you what, you start my Wither and I’ll start yours…deal?
Geez Cheryl, you’re a reading machine lately. 😉
Fabi!! *hugs Fabi* You get to join the land of the reading again! 😀 And 25 boxes of books…good lawd…
The Girl in 6E is sooo good!!! I loved it! I just haven’t read the second one because I was hoping for a price drop!
I’m reading The Play as well but I only read the first book but I don’t seem to be missing anything 🙂
I just finished reading Nine. I loved it. Read it in one day aka I couldn’t out it down!!! Yeah there’s a book 2!!! No CH but continuation of a great story!!!
Well, damn Niki I just looked at the price for book 2 AND book 3-$9.99!!! 🙁 Maybe there will at least be a price drop for book 2 since 3 releases this week.
Lisa M- good to know, thought it was a standalone.
Amy, had the week off from work. 😉
Where is MichelleS? The new favorites list looks like it was written with her in mind. 😉
I want a book twin.
Sunday’s could not put down book of the day Tangled by Em Wolf. Started this morning n finished just in time to watch The Walking Dead!!! Loved loved loved it!! So conflicted & torn throughout the book on who’s side to be on!! Angst or what?? Anyone else read it yet?
Started listening to The Girl in 6E. Holy sh*t is this creepy and erotic. It is definitely a unique storyline. It will be interesting to see how it turns out as a movie. Adds a little bit more to listen to it, which because the romance part is v-e-r-y slow, ok practically non-existent, makes it more enjoyable. Almost finished reading The Play which has been a good, minimal angst read. Think I’m going to read Hard To Beat next (author one of my fav’s) or look into Tangled or…
Hmm.
*looks around*
*does a little tap dance*
ooh, pretty dance Bev. 😉
OMG! I just finished reading This Love by Samantha Victoria…just….ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I loved it soooo much!!! reminds me of beautiful disaster. Freaking loved Joss Nixon! A must read Maryse! I think you would really like this book! 🙂
