Okay… so… you know how this past Tuesday’s “new release” list was great, not only from the ones that we were expecting and highly anticipating, but especially for the ones that were totally new-to-us? Well, I just realized a bunch of us jumped into those “new ones”, and I’ve been getting some EXCELLENT feedback on ’em. I love when we discover the “new-to-us” books and they end up rocking our worlds!
So this is going to be a list of the latest releases & bargain finds, yes, but it’s especially a list of reader recommendations. π And yes… I’m *squirreling* ’cause these recommendations have me too excited (an uber-jerk is on the list!!! :D).
Tessa: *grins* Mini TBR lists are needed some days.
Fabi:Β Tessa, I see youβve been making those mini lists like I do. I always seem to have a few lined up as next. βthenβ I squirrel. :-/
Maryse: Tessa and Fabi, just like meβ¦ Iβm trying to decide between Sparrow, and Crossing the Stars, and Cruel and Beautiful, and NONE of them were even on my radar last week. I DO have a TBR list, but you know me.Β
Cheryl:Β Seriously, no idea what Iβm reading next, because so many good choices.Β Or maybe Iβll start Sparrowβ¦Β Or maybe Rockβ¦
P.S. Let me know if Iβm missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

Because this commanding, panty-wetting, arrogant man absolutely hates me.Β Thing is, weβve actually already met…”

I finished Sparrow this morning and it was FANTASTIC! I just LOVE an alpha jerk and sassy heroine!! It’s a great 5 star formula for me!! It’s re-ignited by love for mafia books, so now I’m onto to another mafia recommendation from a fellow reader on here!
I FINALLY broke down and started subscribing to Kindle Unlimited!! I’m like a kid in a candy store!!! I was able to get Sparrow and The Wall of Winnipeg for free (aside from the $9.99/month fee). PLUS! There are so many great books available through this program and most of them are on my TBR list! SCORE!! This program is going to do wonders for my monthly book budget!! If you haven’t tried it yet, please do so! The first 30 days are free!
I’m going to put up a Mafia list this weekend Cristina. π I will search out all the greatest recommendations, and highlight the bestest ones. π
Loved Live For This and am 89% into Sparrow right now. Soooo goood!!!
Christian, KU is awesome! I actually made a wishlist of KU items. lol. There are so many great books in the program. I bought WoW and Sparrow because I think I’ll re-read them again, but usually, if it’s KU, then I just borrow it. It’s saved me so much money.
Mafia books! JM Darhower stuff, Eagle Elite series, Nero, Dmitry’s Closet, Beware, Raw, Lev… my mind is exploding at the goodies in such a list. I’ve loved Mafia stories since I was 14 and saw Bugsy. (Yep, I ugly cried over that movie.) I can’t wait!
Sparrow was an absolute love for me, too. I went in posted in our book group that I had no idea the H was goina be THAT big of a jerk. Like total a$$hat at first. But that’s the kinda guy I love, le sigh. It was so good!
Ohh YAY Maryse! I’m looking forward to your Mafia list!
So many of these I want to read. I downloaded Sparrow yesterday, excited to get into it after reading all these comments.

I am enjoying P*rn Star. It is so different from anything I have read in such a long time. It’s almost a romance in reverse. Logan is so darn likeable. It’s on the steamy side (what a surprise) but not over the top. There is a scene with the characters and a little old lady that was funny. I’m still only about 60%nin and will give my rating when done. So far? Solid 4 stars – only because it’s well, you know what!
Also, Maryse don’t forget The Devil’s Eyes series by Jennifer Loren and Crow’s Row Series by Julie Hockley. Oh and Lindsay Delagair Untouchable series and EL Montes Disastrous.
Keep ’em coming. I’ll create a big beautiful comprehensive list of mafia-mob bad guys for our romance (or anti-romance?) delight. Tee hee!!
P.S. I’m reading Sparrow right now and I love the writing style. Good stuff!
*Whispers* Carter Reed.
I so wish I could read my book now! I’m reading Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. Two chapters in and already I have death and destruction.
Oh…..Ruthless People series by J.J. McAvoy
Not sure if I mentioned this the other day….Virtue and Vanity by Astrid Jane Ray? Anyone else read it yet?
Not a true mob book …..arranged marriage plot. The H ….well, just wrecked the h right out of the gate. Definitely a slow burn on this one….more like had to hunt through the desert for twigs to start the fire kinda slow burn….and then hunt down some flint!
Overall, a good read.
Maryse, I’ve read Cruel & Beautiful. It’s an angsty, tear-jerker with surprises. I really liked it.
Started Sparrow this morning. I don’t usually go for the mobster story, but couldn’t resist with all the positive recommendations. π
Goodie! A Mafia list! I got a few.
Blood Ties That Bind series by April Ezell Wilson
The Corruption series by CD Reiss
Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles by Cora Reilly
Carter Reed by Tijan
Born Bratva by Suzanne Steele
Ruthless People series by JJ McAvoy
Fianna Fail:Soldiers of Destiny by S. Kline
The Game Maker series by Kresley Cole
The Carter Trilogy by W S Greer
Scarlett and the Mobster by S L Baker
Made Man series by Liliana Rhodes
The Enforcer series by Nikki Drost
The New Mafia by E J Fechenda
Volkov Bratva by London Miller
These just a few I’ve enjoyed. Can you tell I have a little fixation on the Mafia? Hehe. If I remember anymore I’ll let you know!
Ok, here are a couple of more: Sapphire Knights (Russkaya Mafiya Series) and Roxie Rivera (Her Russian Protector Series). Love love love the Game Maker Series by Kresley Cole and they are on sale right now and a new book is coming out soon!! Yeah!
This upcoming week is going to be an unbelievable week for new releases! I am going to be SOOO broke!!!
Yippie thanks Fabi I have been so excited for this book to come out! I am so on it right now!!! π
Awesome Nicole
MAKEUP ALERT!!!!!!!
GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!! LOL!
https://www.toofaced.com/p/eye-shadow-palettes/chocolate-bon-bons-eye-shadow-collection/
and this one: https://www.facebook.com/toofaced/photos/a.411544954596.190124.37107744596/10153706668429597/?type=3&theater
Those chocolates are to die for.
Chocolate eyeshadow colors (scents???) in perfect shades, MATTE shades too… AND heart-shaped? MINE!!!!! π
OMG YES! Chocolate scented, and I am in LOVE with every single color on it. Every. Single. One.
Yes! Those mattes are getting hard to find. …and at my age, glittery isn’t always better.
Exactly… and agreed. I love glittery in small areas on my lids… a highlight or pop of color. But I MUCH prefer mattes for the majority of the blended look.
I am loving Painted Faces (you ladies are always right with your recs!!) but I am soooooo tempted right now with Sparrow as well as Cruel and Beautiful (I purchased that back in November? Whaaaaa???) after all the comments about those two.
Not to mention Cold Comfort *click*…Knot a Liar *click*…Waiting For You *click*…Lexington and 42nd *click*…Bought *click*…Virtue and Vanity *click*…aw sh!t, here I was doing so well with resisting the clicks. π
Gah! I love this group and all the recs y’all give!! π
*waiting on Amy’s makeup reaction*
in 3… 2… 1…
OMG OMG OOOO-MMMM-GGGG!!!!!!
MINE!!! MINE MINE MINE!!!!
Those palettes are SO mine!!!
*grabs Maryse’s shoulders and shakes them*
Do we love them?!? I think we love them!!!! YES, we love them!!
*takes deep breath* Okay, gotta calm down now…
…but I just CAN’T calm down ’cause they are so pretty!!
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!*
*sighs* You all keep your chocolates, I want that peach! Pink, purples, the closest to orange is a pretty coral? MINE! And I get to smell like peaches. It’s just perfect.
I KNOW AMY!!!!!!!
I have NEVER been more excited for eyeshadow in my LIFE!!! AND I LOVE AND (feel like) I HAVE ALL EYESHADOWS!!!
BUT THIS?!! Chocolate eyeshadow?? THIS!!!????
*thud*
Oh I doooooooo love the peaches, Tessa. Oh yes. Oh yes I do.
I can imagine they smell like heaven, too.
Well, they’re BOTH mine so we can all smell like peaches and chocolate together! π Ooooh, I want a peach martini now. I’ll bet I can find a recipe for a chocolate peach martini too…
Tessa, it’s funny that you mentioned Bugsy up there because my hubby was just watching that a few days ago on Starz (or Encore…can’t remember which) but I have always LOVED that movie. So sad and so tragic but still so freaking good. I love mob movies. Casino, Goodfellas, Godfather, Ganster Squad, Untouchables …*sigh* Love them.
YES!!! A mafia list?!?! SQUEEE!!!
FYI… I started The Devil’s Eyes and HOLY HELL!!! It is FANTABULOUS!!! I am devouring it right now and it’s got some AWESOME jaw dropping moments!!! I’m liking it better than Sparrow so far!! Whomever recommended this series THANK YOU!! I’m in a mafia mood ladies!!! Bring em’ on!!!!
*fans a passed out Maryse after her “thud”*
Okay…okay…deep breaths…there ya go…and while we’re at it, let’s add the peanut butter and jelly palette to the cart. And on March 17th we’ll get the peach one. M’kay? M’kay.
Seriously though, I AM IN LOVE WITH THAT CHOCOLATE BON BONS PALETTE!!! Gorgeous!!
Aaaaaand now I’m clicking Devil’s Eyes as well…
A couple of mafia recommendations from me are: For Fallon and For Luca by Soraya Naomi; Bound by Honor, by Cora Reilly; Carter Reed by Tijan; Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken; Made men series by Sarah Brianne; and Monster in his Eyes by J.M. Darhower. That’s all I can think of at the moment.
You won’t regret it Amy! I started reading this afternoon and could not get enough!! I’m back to it right now as we speak! I can’t really say to much without giving it away, but let’s just say there’s some push/pull. Our heroine is sassy and our hero is an alpha jerk! She’s trying so hard to get his attention in the beginning and I’m loving every second of it! π
Lexinton & 42nd and Bought. Clickety click.
Holy crap. I’ve gotten myself into a debate like Amy’s on GR. Defending the right everyone has to their opinion and especially the one authors have to write fiction without worrying about the accuracy of real life.
Now I feel awful. There’s not much I hate more than disagreements, even when they’re supposed to be healthy debates. Ugh, my tummy hurts.
I gotta go read a book. π
*snuggles Fabi*
You’re home, now, Fabi. You’re home.
*passes Manny and heart-shaped REAL chocolates, and a chocolate-peach martini to Fabi*
*sips Fabi’s martini while she’s not looking*
*snuggles Maryse*
*hugs Manny*
*chews devine chocolate*
*takes a sip … sideyes Maryse … of HALF of a Martini*
I love you guys! I love it here.
Aw sh!t, someone hold my earrings. I’m heading over to GR…
*takes off earrings and holds them out*
We love YOU, Fabi!
*grabs the rest of Fabi’s martini and slams it back*
Alright, NOW I’m heading off to GR…
*holds Amy’s earrings*
Ooooooh shinyyyyyyy!!!! π
*luufffs Amy* I’m right behind you – *making myself another Martini*
Why does my autocorrect always capitalize Martini?
Because it’s VERY important.
*sips said “Martini”*
tee hee!!!
Awww Fabi….that’s why we love it here……safe, accepting, no judgement EVER and beautiful book nerds who are funny as f@k.
As much as I love tbe accessibility of lots of online communities there is often trolls lurking….ready to ruin your day. I had an absolute bashing once on an online support group for intercountry adoptive families (my daughter is adopted) and tbis very not-nice person ripped me apart for being an adoptive mum. It HURT until I reminded myself that I have no control over what other people think and say…I just have to be me and do what’s right for my family. Everyone will have an opinion….its only tbe opinion of people you love that matters.
*hands Fabi a martini and a huge hug*
PS: Martini should be capitalized….along with Chocolate and other very important daily requirement; )
Lisa, what a horrible experience. *hugs back*
*mixes Lisa a Martini*
*snuggles Lisa*
People can be rude. π
Oh Lisa, mean people are just awful. Your daughter and you are BOTH blessed to have been brought together through adoption.
Can I join in the snuggle fest? I love hugs and snuggles!
*dives into snuggle pile with Lisa, Maryse and Fabi*
And Martinis?? With a capital M? Yes please!
*distracts Maryse with the shiny earrings while swiping a Martini*
“β¦.thatβs why we love it hereβ¦β¦safe, accepting, no judgement EVER and beautiful book nerds who are funny as f@k.” <—– I HAVE to double snuggle you for that, Lisa! π
Thanks for the back up on GR Amy. You ladies are awesome. It’s Maryse who’s created this awesome environment here. *hands out an entire round of chocolate peach Martinis*
Hi guys, missed you this past week and I definitely need to get in on that snuggle fest. Been a rough week for me…… had to say goodbye to my dear cat Sabrina. After bloodwork, xrays, ultrasound, and finally, an endoscopy, they found a large mass in her stomach. She was the best cat ever, so different, and no lie, she acted like a dog! Everyone loved her and she loved people. My husband and are are heartbroken. Rest in peace my special, special Sabrina.
Hoping to dive into a great book this weekend to take my mind off things. Looks like lots of goodies up there and great recommendations! I love Mafia stories! Can’t wait for that list!
I’m so sorry Jean. Breaks my heart… I lost one of my dogs a year ago and I cried for weeks. I still miss her so much.
For what it’s worth. I cried my face off reading cruel and beautiful.
First, Jean I’m so sorry. Our pets are family and it hurts so much to lose them. *big hugs and how about a mimosa*
Boy, I missed so much yesterday here. Hugs, snuggles, Martinis (yes they should be capitalized), MAKEUP ( I love both collections, but leaning more towards the peach one because I don’t have anything like that one, but I agree with Fabi, at my age I try to limit the “glittery” too).
Fabi- big hug of support-social media seems to bring out the trolls that say awful things because they can hide behind anonymity. I love that we are a great supportive group here!!! π
Still reading Sparrow- my daughter had a dance last night and son had plans so the hubby and I went out to dinner and had some great adult drinks!!
Oh, Jean. I’m sorry to hear that. It is so hard to lose a pet. They just love us unconditionally.
Love the name. Hope you find a happy book to fall into for a couple hours.
Thanks guys! I seriously love you all here!
Oh and we still have Sabrina’s sister, Samantha, so she’s getting some extra loving!
I was thinking an Audrey cat. But you had Bewitched cats.
That’s right bev! We adopted them from our vet 11 years ago and they were already named and we didn’t want to change them. They were perfect!
I was thinking of cruel and beautiful to read but then saw Jaime cried from it and I’ve had enough tears this week. Thinking of going with Anti-Romance.
Jean, big hugs, I am so sorry. I know how much it hurts. Definitely pick a lighter read or one that’s totally engrossing.
Cheryl, thanks. I do know that. I just forget sometimes.
Jean…I’m so sorry about your kitty. *huge squeezy bear hug* Sending lots of love to you, my friend.
Definitely no crying books for you. When you’re ready for a pretty intense dystopian book with the best animal companion ever, try out Branded by Abi Ketner…Zeus the Great Dane is as absolutely hilarious (scared of his own farts and destroys “threatening” bedding) as he is loyal and aggressive.
RIP, sweet Sabrina.
Maybe at some point Jean and her husband will be ready for a Tabitha.
Fabi, I would have loved to have written more to back you up but compared to how articulate and well spoken you guys were, I would have sounded like Rob Schneider (sp?) in Water Boy and probably would have just embarrassed you. *snort* The others would have been all, “THAT is who you brought for backup??” π
Thanks fabi and amy! Lol bev! Right now, my husband says no more….he can’t take the heartbreak but you never know…
Starting Anti-Romance now. I’ll keep you updated!
A tabby named Tabitha!!! π
Thanks Amy. That conversation went off left field. Please don’t think I’m crazy, but I really do think of our group here as friends. Whenever I want to share something I immediately think I gotta tell Maryse and my friends there. *blush*
Jean, your husband’s is the normal reaction. When there is so much pain over loosing a pet, it’s very hard to think of a replacement because, really, there is no replacement. Eventually there may be room in his heart for a new little love, but at first we seem to think replacement which just doesn’t work.
Wait.
……
Wait.
Fabi (FABI??) got into a fight on GR?
And Amy went to back her up?
I DIE.
Please, post the link.
And tell me it was a good book.
Fabi, you’re NOT crazy for thinking of us as friends…we ARE friends here, and I would love soooo much to hang out with any and all of you in real life if we lived near each other. Next best thing to that would be a group Skype call or something like that. How freaking fun would that be?!?
Bev, my backup wasn’t as exciting as it would seem. π My first instinct was to say something that would get that woman to back the eff off of Fabi, but I didn’t think it would help her all that much so I kept writing and deleting and writing and deleting until my comment had a more neutral tone that wouldn’t reflect negatively on Fabi for the “virtual” company she keeps. π
Lol Bev, totally not a fight. Silly me was expressing my opinion. I didn’t realise that Erika lady was going around inciting multiple reviews of the book. I was standing up for authors’ rights. As if I’m an author or something haaaaaaa.
Amy you were right on target. *hugs*
I’m not on GR but have read were some do not like it because people can get intense. Street teams and authors ganging up on reviewers. And other such things.
Bev, I can’t say I’m an active participant of GR but I do keep track of my books there and review the ones that make an impact on me. I find it an easy way to track what and how much of what I read. It has great stats besides which books you’ve read and have tbr. It tracks which author is your most read, your reading preferences, your ratings, etc. I use it kind of like a database. I could build my own database but I wouldn’t have the external feedback I get there like a book’s number of ratings/reviews and average star rating. *shrug* I’m a bit of a geek if you guys haven’t noticed yet. lol
I was just reading a post from a blogger on her mini tbr list and others helping order it.
I think the ones I thought of will be my mini tbr but not in a real order yet. One person said they loved one of the books so that will be my read AFTER FINALLY reading MiF and FT. This weekend me and those two books.
Maryse, it has been awhile since you have posted a tbr list.
What would be awesome…us if the Kindle developers expanded the app to include most of that functionality. *hint hint Amazon*
Maryse is busy shuffling her mini-tbr around. Lol – sooo many good books in line for us to get to.
“I could build my own database”–that is awesome Fabi.βΊ
I will post what I listed at Scandalicious maybe I’ll stick to it. It does throw out my old to every new ratio, but oh well. Just want to get back to reading.
MiF & FT first.
Plus, I’m reading Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. That I’ll dip in and oUT of.
Then
1. What the Librarian Did by Karina Bliss. This is the one someone said they loved.
Then in no order (please give suggestions)
Hustle by Ashley Claude
The Kraken King by Mel Jean Brook
Mariana by Susanna Kearsley
The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
A Talent of Trickery by Alissa Johnson
Tiffany Girl by Deanne Gist
I should totally post a new TBR list, ’cause I actually have made another… but I’m afraid my TBR lists don’t hold much water anymore. π
‘Cause I’m such a squirreler. THAT SAID… I must defend myself and say I cross off a BUNCH off of my TBR lists. I actually do read what’s on ’em. Just with a on of “extras”. LOL!
So yes. I shall make my new one public. π
And yes, Fabi and crew. You are absolutely my friends (REAL TRUE friends), and I’d be SO happy to have every one of you here, in person with me for a girls night (or many!!). I trust you guys. I KNOW you guys.
Our book-club is awesome, ’cause we all have similar tastes, and yet all have different tastes in books, too. But we share other interests and personal stuff too. We are pretty perfect, if you ask me.
π
Just finished Sparrow and loved it!! The H was such a jerk but I fell so hard for him. The h was wonderful too! 5 stars from me.
Maryse can’t wait for your mafia list!
Reading Porn Star next π
Anne, Sparrow has gotten so much love that I have to put it on my tbr. I was going to read Porn Star this weekend. I also had the new Zapata one lined up. Then I got a loan of Lingus and its about a porn star and by Zapata so it was like a sign. I had to start it next.
I know some of you read Lingus when it came out last year. I think Mariana Zapata is a great author. I love her writing.
Ladies – I might be the ONLY one who has not read the Gabriel’s Inferno trilogy….I check it occasionally to see if it is on sale. IT is On SALE!!!!!! Yay me! *happy dancing through the pine straw*
Finished Sparrow. I really liked everything about it, the author’s writing, the story, the suspense. As always when it’s a great read I want there to be more to the ending.
Now I think I want something funny and lighthearted.
I agree Maryse, we are a great group that shares similarities but also RESPECTS our differences. π
*high fives Cheryl*
You guys rock! No judgments here, just lots of great sharing!
DG, actually, I haven’t read Gabriels inferno trilogy yet…..but I have it.
Fabi, I am curious what you will think about Lingus. It was a DNF for me.
Bev, did you finish MiF yet?
Um….I haven’t started it yet. It is the book I plan to start to day. Just those Tuesday release days on a busy week. It’s ridiculous, usually would pull an all nighter.
*sad face*
Bev, if it influences or helps which to read first, I think Marked in Flesh will end up being my favorite for the month. I read WoW, FT. amd now I’m reading Glass Sword, but MiF is just that good.
Awwwww, feelin’ the love around here today! Maryse is right…this wonderful group is pretty perfect. π
*raises hand* I haven’t read Gabriel’s Inferno either, even though I’m pretty sure I have the first one…it’s his POV though, isn’t it? π
Oh well, for now I am LOVING Painted Faces and *finally* get to jump back into it for a bit!!
Lingus and porn star in the same sentence. *snicker* Yeah, my mind went there. π
Jean, *big hugs* sorry about your kitty. I know it’s hard when we lose or fluffy family. I’ve had cats around most of my life and each time, it hurt.
Fabi, I went to read the argument. That person is just a troll. You presented rational facts, so *Pfft* at the troll. *hugs* As said, it’s all about respect.
Amy, I’m pretty sure it’s either hers or shared POV. DG, tell me what you think of Gabriel’s Inferno after your done. I’ve read it, but I like other’s opinions. For me, it was finished, but a two stars. However, I seem to be in the minority. π
Bev, The Wrath and Dawn at the top of the what next. I’ve got it on my wishlist so I want to know how good it is.
Maryse, yes, another TBR list. I find a lot of goodies with those. π Also, it’s just fun to see where everyone’s mood for reading is.
I’m weird. I put my TBR in order of books to read, and unless something major is released, I’ll read it in that order. See, weird!
Thanks Tessa.
Bev, you dnfed Lingus? :-0 It’s Zapata’s trademark slow-burn. I haven’t been able to put it down all day. I think I might even finish it tonight.
Soooo, curious now, what was it that you didn’t like about it?
Ooooh I wonder if I have Lingus? Slow burn and a porn star? How did I miss THAT?!!! Again… I guarantee it’s the darn title that deflected me. And If I remember right, wasn’t it a dog on the cover? LOL!!!
Well, Fabi, now I’m gonna see if I have it.
Amy, yes his porn star name is Robby Lingus. π
Oh, and I’m at 72% and still no sexy times between H&h. Total Zapatas. π
Missed so much. Need to go check out GR and see what Fabi is up to over there, starting trouble….. LOL. Speaking of Fabi – OMG – I am in a book fog. I just finished Beyond the Sea. I couldn’t put it down. It was totally On The Island, with two guys instead. All the same feels. YAY. Loved it. 5 stars!!! derailed all my plans, but I needed a break from fantasy for a minute. Now diving back into Queen of Shadows, because that’s on loan (e-book).
Finished Mercy. That was the shortest Mercy ever (at least it felt like it). Almost a novella feel. I love anything Mercy, so of course I loved it.
Jean – so sorry to hear about your kitty cat. Big hugs!!!
The humor. That type just sometimes doesn’t work for me.
I didn’t make it pass the convention. *shrug*
Lol, even Kulti. Loved it but after a bit I was like ok I don’t want to imagine him pooping anymore.
Then some movies like The Hangover and Wedding Crashers I love. But then that might have to do with the actors delivery too.
Bev, I’m totally with you on the humor. It’s not my cup of tea either and its kind of jarring. I don’t get the humor in fart jokes. Sue me. :-/
But…the story is so sweet for me. Kulti-like in some ways but sweeter, so that I can’t put it down. Even at the beginning convention scene, the H stole my heart with his baseball cap and hoody and walking her around in a big circle to get to the bathrooms. So cute! I think I’m putting up with the humor more because it’s from the girls not from the guys. Double standard alive and well! It would really turn me off coming from guys. Probably dnf too.
MichelleS squeeeeeeeeeeee wasn’t that awesome?!!! I loved Beyond the Sea. I agree, very much like On the Island but with two straight guys instead.
What’s crazy about the arguments about it is that the people arguing against it HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK. Ugh, so frustrating. *shakes head*
And then to imply an author should change the book or wording or even not publish it. I just can’t get past that…nope, I can’t.
I just feel like yelling at them, “it’s fiction people, get over it”. It’s not meant to portray any real living person. It even says so on almost all fiction books right on the front pages.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. If you read it and don’t like it, feel free to post a bad review. But, sheesh, stop with illogical nonsense because it makes Fabi ranty. π
Maryse, both the H and h snort when they laugh. A match made in heaven. And he teases her about her mini-chainsaw snoring, which, of course, he finds adorable. Yup, I’m a little in love with these two. But tbeir sutuation really does make my tummy twisty because I’m not sure I could deal with it.
And Maryse, I bet it was the title and cover that put you off. It’s the reason I didn’t buy it when it first came out. Zapata’s is awesome but her titles and covers don’t seem to appeal to me personally. I would have never read the awesomeness that is Kulti if MichelleS hadn’t highly recommended it.
Oh man, that’s THREE Zapata books I have to read…Kulti, WoW and now Lingus.
By the way, the cover for Lingus is a little more appealing to me than the her other covers because of the colors and simplicity of it…a plaid shirt with an all-access pass. I’ll take that ANY day over a couple in a passionate embrace. Kinda burned out on those, ya know?
“it’s fiction people, get over it” <—— Fabi, tell 'em "cry me a river, build a bridge, and get the &$%# over it." π
I had to read the “fight”. That was actually very civilized.
Interesting points on both sides.
hahaha Amy you’re always more eloquent
lol Bev *in my best southern slang* jus’ ’cause ya’ll see the cows out my window dusnna mean I ain’t all civilized”
Oh and Amy, Lingus had a dog drawn on the original cover. All done in neutral tones. The new cover is much prettier.
Ok just read Anti-Romance. It has a cliffhanger ending!! I am so mad. You know how much I hate CH and not knowing going into a book that it has a sequel- that is not released yet!! UGh!!!
Grrrrr Cheryl, I’m so upset on your behalf. Just a little warning would be very appreciated on those.
Fabi- now I see all the reviews on Amazon about the CH. Is it too much to ask for authors to say if a book has a sequel or CH warning?! I know I’m sick hearing myself have this same old rant!
I think I read Gabriel’s Inferno and Lingus when they were fanfiction. :>
Cheryl, I don’t think I ever get tired of that rant and as long as there are books with surprise cliffhanger endings there will be rants (at least from me). I don’t read reviews before reading a book. I may look at the average star rating but too many reviews have spoilers that really ruin a book for me.
Fanfiction – that’s one thing I’ve never read. Betas, ARCs, yes, but I’ve never gotten into the fan fiction scene. I’ve always thought it was more for writers than readers.
Oh crap, a CH with Anti-Romance! I ended up not reading it and now I’m glad. I’ve been squirrelly all day.
I fell down a rabbit hole. I was looking a book up and ended up on a new to me blog. I started looking around & found their best of the year list. I adore a best of the year list. Seriously. They chose 4 books I loved last year & so of course had to read the reviews and now I want to re-read the books. Fabi it is fun to read reviews after. Plus they have one I have, saw on a different list(really love them) but not read. Now I want to jumble the tbr.
They also have that Willow Bly & Uprooted on the list.
Jean, what exactly are you in the mood for?
Maryse has a new review with a button hole hero, lol.
Yes, I love to read reviews after I’ve the book.
A button hole hero?
Can’t seem to find a book that I want to read next. It’s not like I don’t have multiple books to choose from in my tbr and the recent releases. Guess just as well since I probably should get something done besides reading today.:(
Cheryl, I’m having the same problem! I think I opened a closed about a dozen books yesterday….. just couldn’t get into anything! Then finally, last night I started The Infamous Ellen James. It’s hysterical! She’s our Amy (no filter lol) and her friend is us! Great banter and sarcasm! She is a nurse and the H is a trauma surgeon. One of the doctors had tourettes! So funny! Just what I needed!
Fabi? What is wrong with these people? I say go fly a kite and bite my round behind!
I shall go search for beautiful palettes!
Finished and loved Jack and Jill book 1….it’s funny and a bit darkish! No triangles or cheating….
I WANT! https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/bobbi-brown-everything-eyes-palette-nordstrom-exclusive-139-value/4292820?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=900
OMG I LOVE Bobbi Brown and that palette is also perfection!
Really liking Porn Star. Logan is such a sweetheart! Love him!
Ela that palette looks really nice! Love the neutral colors.
Maryse I can’t wait for you mafia list! I need to read more of those after reading Sparrow π
Cannot wait for this list Maryse! Love mafia books!
Ela, I love the neutral palette, but damn Bobbi Brown is so expensive!!
Now this, this is what I’m in the mood for and of course it doesn’t release until the 29th. *big pout*
https://cdreiss.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cd_reiss_new_steamy_sports_romance_and_other_news
Jean I read that one and book 2 which is about her best friend Amy. Loved them both!! Great reads!
Cheryl, you should play the # game. Ask for a # or use Fabi’s lucky 21.
Yeah Cheryl, it’s a nice light read. And I’m actually convinced that this Amy was written for our Amy here! Reminds me of her sooo much! I’ll have to check out the second book.
Hi!!! Gah, fall off the planet why don’t I! Sorry! Ok, *pushes up my sleeves* who is being mean to my Fabi! Let me at them! I don’t tolerate that sh*t! gah!
Sorry I’ve been MIA. My littlest had a birthday this weekend, so we’ve been super busy with a party and a basketball banquet for the middle child. Yikes.
I read Porn Star, really, really liked it! 4.5 stars for me. Trying to decide between Sparrow or waiting for The Confessions of Marcus Stearns on Tuesday…decisions decisions.
Jean…so sorry about your kitty… *hugs*
Ohh Ive missed a couple of days…..Jean I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. Our pets are like our furry kids, I would be devastated if anything happened to them. I feel very sad for you…. *big hugs*
Sometimes I still think it would be fun if we took turns picking a book to read each month or every other month. One we haven’t read. Shake up our reading a bit.
But then I barely make it to buddy reads.
That sounds like a great idea Bev….but Ive gotta admit, I flake on most BR’s cos I get distracted by some new shiny. I’m two books behind in my RL book club reads and basically only turning up to our monthly get together for the wine!! π
Bev, I’ll do that next time. I started Tackled. It showed up under the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought” when I was looking at the not-released yet Hardball. It’s pretty good. A nice no-brainer, light read that I was looking for.
A character that reminds you of me, AND she shares my name?? That’s awesome!!!! π
Aw crap Cheryl, Anti-Romance has a CH? *sigh* So much for reading that one anytime soon. Hey, at least you took one for the non-CH team. THAT gets you a huge hug and a big fat cheek smooch!
And I agree with Bev…ask for a number! That’s helped me pick a read when I’m stuck. That is, until Maryse thinks it’s funny to throw out two numbers and get me all flustered. π
I LOVE that palette! Another brand I’m getting addicted to is Tarte. Their matte eyeshadows give insane color payoff and the pigmentation is great. This is my favorite right now, but the Tartelette In Bloom is a close second:
https://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-tartelette-amazonian-clay-matte-palette?gclid=CN7a7LH2vssCFU9cfgodZxgDQg
Never mind about my number comment above, Cheryl…I posted it before I read that you had found a book. π
Lisa, I know keeping up would be the hard part. And adding more books to the ever growing tbr pile.
I think I know what I would throw in the ring though.
What would you throw in Bev?
I’m still all for a monthly BR. Even if the chosen book is not exactly in my wheelhouse, the BR would make up for it. The only thing I’d balk at would be a continuation of a series I hadn’t started yet. It’s too hard to catch up several books in time for a BR. I think that’s what happened in Grey’s GR BR group. The Feb recs were all continuation of series.
I think it would be fun to suggest what you haven’t read, not peanut books.
*pauses to look wistfully at Jellicoe, WiR etc..*
So min would be Sweethearts by Sara Zarr. It is YA. I’m not sure by the review I read if HEA or not. So, scared but tempted. I don’t want to spoil for some reason, just read it.
Ok, Fabi, what would you suggest?
See? I wouldn’t normally read something like Sweethearts but totally would for a buddy read.
I agree it should be a pick that we haven’t read yet. More of a, let’s try this, it sounds good to me, thing.
But I have no idea what I’d throw out there. I guess it depends on if we had to choose a new release or if we could dig through our tbr.
I didn’t even think about it. So, maybe whatever takes your fancy.
Even if we never do it, might be fun just to see what is suggested. What kind of line up we’d end up with.
Ok, then, I’ve had one on my tbr next list for what seems like forever. I keep squirreling away with new releases and ARCs. It’s called The Institute by Kayla Howarth. It sounds YA Dystopian so I’m super interested but it’s book 1 of 4 so I’m anxious about a CH.
That looks good Fabi. And it’s free. Mines like 9, lol.
So, that’d be 2 YA.
Thanks for the loving Amy, that takes away some of my bitterness regarding Anti-Romance! π
I will try the number next time. I really do need to make a dent in my tbr.
I like that palette also. Seems to have a pink-base to the colors. I’m going to Sephora this week so I’m going to check out all the palettes recommended.
I’m for a BR too, but agree with Fabi I just don’t want a book in a series.
Fell in a book hole with Gabriel’s Inferno…..Tessa, not sure where to begin. Apparently I have an issue where the author jumps from one person “thinking” to another person without some kind of a divider, a small little star, icon, heck – a smudge….just something! It drives me nuts! So with that being said, Gabriel’s Inferno was not quite what I thought it would be…. I really like a strong alpha who takes control, takes the girl and everyone else be d@mn3d! Both the H/h came off as insecure….way too much for me. I have only finished book 1 and have 2 more to go but I am not in that dead rush to start book 2 to find out what happens next…..
Cheryl, you have to throw out a suggestion. βΊ
For me, Linguis was my least fav of the Zapata books……here is my ranking….WoW and me, Kulti, Under Locke, Rhythm, Chord, & Malykhin and last Linguis. For some reason, I just couldn’t connect with the Linguis crew.
Might have to find me an in between book before I start on GI2.
Cheryl – thanks for the heads up in Anti-Romance….I hate CH’s!!!!
DG you’ve read that many Zapatas books? I’ve only read 2 so far and have WoW on my tbr. If Lingus was your least favorite then I have a lot to look forward to.
DG, that’s how I felt about it, the insecurity thing. To me, h came off as such a holier than thou type, but so immature that I never liked her.
Fabi, yes I have exhausted my supply of Zapata books….I stumbled upon her books a year or so ago when I was looking for MC books. Under Locke was my first read of hers. Loved it! H is a big ole jerk to h. Lot to do with misconceptions and lust! Definitely one of my fav MC re-reads!
Bev, well for this month- Love Chloe or Hardball.
Any paranormal readers in St. Louis? Got books?
Grey and Lisa, thank you for your kind thoughts! You are all such a great support group!
Now, anyone who hasn’t read Kate Regnery’s modern fairytale series, the first 2 books are bundled for 99 cents! Highly recommend them!
Finished The Infamous Ellen James over the weekend and it was a great, light, funny read! Now I’m reading Loving Lawson because you all know I love my fighters and I remember it getting good reviews around here. I’m really liking it so far!
Oh and The Professional and The Master by Kresley Cole both on sale for $1.99! 1-clickety click!
OMG you guys, just saw the cover for Logan (Tijan) on GR and I’m squealing like a little girl!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought 2 Bobbi Brown palettes and of course a Chanel liquid liner!
Now ask me how often I wear makeup???? Go ahead ask me???
Ok, I’ll bite. How often do you wear makeup Ela?
hahaha you guys
Yay Ela!!! Hey, you get what you pay for and BB is worth the price. π And Chanel?? Woo-hoo!
I’ll bite too…how often?
Guys, I loved Painted Faces. LOVED it. π
Amy, I still have to read PF and don’t know why I’ve put it off when I know how everyone loves it so much! I bought it in 2014!
Jean…you will love it like I did, I just know it! Sexual tension (with a great payoff, I must say ;)) and just enough emotional angst to make it fun while still keeping it a light-ish read.
And TELL me you are reading It’s All Relative tomorrow!!!!
Eeeeeep!!! It’s such a fun read!!! π
Yes Amy, I think I’m going to jump right into it. I have no idea what it’s about, going in blind, haven’t read the blurb or reviews! I’m excited!
Right, DON’T read any of the reviews ’cause you do not want his one spoiled. I’m all freaking giddy for you!!! π
*this
Cheryl, one of those is the one Maryse just reviewed. I still have to read that author.
That would make it a YA, YA/dystopian, CR.
Jean, that cover for Logan … how much of a sicko would you think me if I tell you I may lick my Kindle when the book arrives? hot, hot, hot
OMG Fabi!!! LOL!!!!!! I’m cackling OUT LOUD right now!! π
I’m a Mason girl *peeks around for Tessa* but I am pretty dang excited about Logan’s book…and then we get two more full FCH books after that plus a couple of novellas?
*puts back of hand to forehead and falls back on sofa*
I think we should just do it. Take those books, Fabi, and shake them up to get an order. Then like next weekend read one.
On a side note. Does anyone ever think it is a good idea to buy a pastry type snack after work/before dinner and scarf it down. Then against your better judgement look at the label and…”Oh, that’s supposed to be two servings???” But still want dinner, lol.
For Amy to faint on in her reading nook.
Lmao! Hardly ever! How sad is that??? I should be decked out everyday in my ultimate stock of cosmetics!
*eyes Amy* *smuggles Mason away from the fainting couch*
I’m excited for Logan too. The little first chapter at the end of FCU was enough to make me happy. The girl sounds perfect for him, but I gotta know for sure. *grins*
Bev, why would you look at the ingredients after? At that point, ignorance is bliss.
I’m STILL reading Glass Sword. *grrr* It’s a great book, but I haven’t been able to read it. I still have 100 pages left. Yes, 100 pages after reading it for four days! *sighs* So not like me.
Alright, my feed just came up in Facebook and now, to rant.
Breaking Her by RK Lilley, the second after Breaking Him,, is coming out on March 29. You know what else is coming out on that date? Yep, Logan.
What is with these authors and their desire to make me go insane?
Bev, that’s so pretty!!! *Perfect* fainting couch. Even though SOMEONE *side-eyes Tessa* took away my reason for fainting. π Hey, Fabi can hang out on the fainting couch while she licks her Kindle!
And yes, I do that with pastries or dessert-type foods. Once the damage is done then it’s like Tessa said, ignorance is bliss. π
“What is with these authors and their desire to make me go insane?”. I’m literally laughing out loud. Too true.
Amy, I can’t help it if those Logan abs are lickably good. *drops and waits on Amy’s (Bev’s) fainting couch.
Oh, and Bev, I already started The Institute. I’ve been wanting to forever and needed a change of pace (genre). Maybe I’ll take a peak at yours too.
Fabi, lol. We have to work on your definition of
a book club/buddy read.βΊ
I say we just fill Amy’s reading room with mismatched girly sofas. For some reason I think Fabi’s should be purple. *shrug *
