Harper: I read twice in a blue moon too and really liked it. I like everything Christina Lauren writes. Her characters tend to be mature and know how to communicate. Thats what really attracts me to them. Its really rare with the new books in contemporary romance that the H and h don’t linger in miscommunication and resolve their problems in a reasonable way and time frame. I love the character development as well.

I read Roland: Reluctant Paladin by NC Reed earlier this week and wanted to recommend the novel to your readers who enjoy dystopian fiction. It’s easily my top read for 2020. Roland is an anti-hero who is mid-way between Surviving Raine’s Sebstain Stark and Otherwise Alone’s Evan Arden. I loved Roland’s dry voice and how he viewed the world. The unexpected ending bruised my heart and left me thinking of Roland long after the novel was finished. I hope the author will one day give us a peak into Roland’s next chapter.

My two cents on face masks. YES, we should wear them. Make them.
Media in North America are picking up the disconnects with what gov’ts/health people are telling us about masks (among those, US Surgeon General).
Although NOT perfect, they do help reduce risks of infection from others. People point to non-health care workers wearing masks – like World Health Organization officials, & how Hong Kong & Singapore put in place universal mask wearing…leading to early flattening of the curve.
People are starting to make their own. Lots of info on internet, including best materials. Our family is making the 3-ply version…cotton, vacuum filter, cotton.(Just bought HEPA vacuum filter- all filters starting to be scarce here)
As a friend told me, we will all look like clowns in the end – maybe now’s a good time. 🙂

I’m glad you will get a break. We have a stay at home order but my state is having a hard time following it. I told a friend she should tell at her neighbors having a get together but surprisingly she doesnt want to be the crazy covid lady. Kids out playing together, it is just hard to imagine.

Yeah it’s frustrating when others just ignore the instructions. A kind of arrogance. Or selfishness. Last week we had lots of twenty-something backpackers having a great old time on Bondi Beach in Sydney. The police had to close the beach. I wonder how they felt when it was later discovered a few of the revellers had the virus. Eek! I think some people just have this fantasy idea that it won’t happen to them……
As for reading, what about the new Lisa Kleypas HR – Chasing Cassandra? Or the series I’m reading is good. First book is The Rules of Seduction by Madeline Hunter. Not your usual cliche HR.

Yes, it always surprises me when I remember certain words that I use are not english. That we just adapted the words into our vocabulary. I think there is something kind of wonderful about how different languages do that. I think in Englishes it is often French and German words we’ve kept.

Howdy y’all. Hope you are all well and staying home. I have officially not been out of the house for 15 days. I stocked up, and have been hunkering down. If I get it now, it’s someone else’s fault (I;m taking to you, hubby). Work has been exhausting. My school district decided to go full on eLearning on day one back from Spring Break. I’m pooped. Hardly had time to read.
But I DID find an amazing series (new to me) that reminds me so much of the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It’s called the Metalsmith series, by L.R. Braden. It’s the closest thing I have ever read – amazing characters, “who done it?”, and FAE!!! Published July 2019 – but, like I said, new to me. I gobbled up book one and am starting book two tonight.
Wow, 15 days! The last I went out was Saturday so a week tomorrow and hope to be able to not do it again until Friday. I wanted to make it a full week but I have a bill to pay so might as well do the store as well..
I’m reading Mercy right now. I havent read the last two of her series and this seemed like a nice time to visit.

Holy moses guys! I did the drive thru farmer’s market today and for $20 got 9 ginormous carrots, 11 red potatoes, 4 tomatoes, 3 onions, a huge head of cabbage, 2 stalks of broccoli, 2 bunches of kale, 1 bunch of some other kind of greens, a bunch of fresh mint, and half a dozen eggs! 😳😳😳 I think next time we’ll get the $10 box! There was a local coffee vendor there too and now my whole house smells like a coffee shop!

I almost want to compare it to cooking spinach except it taste better, lol. If you had more I’d suggest you try Kale chips but they can be addictive.
Speaking of cooking can I say how much I love my kitchen scissors? I used to think of scissors in the kitchen for cutting up like a chicken or something. But in watching kdramas they cut up the pieces of meat like at the bbq and I thought of how much I hate cutting meat.
I bought some and I love them. I’ve cut meat with them but also vegetables.
I had some of those little bell peppers and asparagus that i needed to use up and just cut them up with the scissors right into a pan of sesame oil, lol. Added some already sliced mushrooms and then sauteed them and put them on top of a bowl of ramen. I’m not a cook at all but it tasted pretty good.
I use scissors to cut up green onions (after washing) right on top of what I need, or in what I need.
I’ve been cooking like crazy already, today. Roasted Spaghetti Squash seeds, also, baked spaghetti squash and spaghetti & meatballs sauce (no spaghetti just the spaghetti squash) with melted cheese all through it.
Then I made a version of my greek green beans (but instead of tomato sauce, I squeezed one whole lemon, Olive oil, Himalayan salt and cracked pepper)
Next I will be making a Slow Cooker Shepherd’s Pie. 🙂

I LOVE Kale chips (I make Dino/lacenato kale chips in the oven), and also crispy seaweed snacks! Just seaweed. Baked dry and spiced OR deep fried is my favorite but those are the unhealthy options. 😉 Tom Yum Goon flavor is the best!

I’m NOT healthy at all. I should try to be more so because I’m at an age where I think it becomes more important. I eat alot of carbs and junk.
I love fruit, but vegetables not so much.
However I do like kale alot. I also just like greens. The other day because I had mixed baby greens I was just dipping them in hummus and eating them.
Other than that the only others I crave sometimes would be zucchini (maybe a fruit?), mushrooms( though that’s a fungus) and asparagus (an actual vegetable!).

First time I saw it, the farmer told me his wife makes it in to a salad.
Takes leaves off the ribs, shreds it finely (or not), dds cherry tomatoes, a lemon & olive dressing, and then some parm.
Macerates ( learned that from friend) for 20 min. to break down fibre.
We inhale let. Been doing that since, plus add nuts and dried fruit.
Would never have bought it if wasn’t for him. 🙂

Another one of my favorites is just cherry tomatoes cut in half, English/Hothouse cucumbers (little slices – with the peel on), and little mozzarella pearls all throughout. Coated in olive oil, half or a whole lemon, and salt and pepper. OMG I LOVE THAT.
Sometimes instead of mozzarella, I use feta cheese. Just as yummy.

Carrot fries are good. I’ve made them with sweet potato fries and everyone loved them. Pinterest has a lot of ideas. You can make them into a cake or bread, salad, Korean style or Moroccan looks yummy, casserole (like au gratin potatoes, pickle them. I recently saved a banh mi meatball sub recipe w/pickled carrots n cucumbers I’d like to try.
I do love carrot fries. Very surprising!!! They’re actually one of my favorite treats (with a side dip of Ken’s Steakhouse Cesar Salad Dressing).
How do you make the carrot fries?! That sounds yummy!
I just chop carrots long wise… like fries… then I coat them in olive oil, salt and pepper (and whatever spices and herbs you love) and I roast them in the oven, with a quick (just a couple of minutes… monitored!!) of broiling.
They’re not crispy like a deep fried French fried potato, but they are wonderful nonetheless.

Easter isn’t cancelled here. 🙁 I looked at the calendar today and realized I better get to ordering. I was reminded today all the egg traditions and I said, stop right there, no one said it’ll be the same this year! I would like to take this as a free pass year with no expectations, but I know I can’t get that lucky.
I cried a little bit inside today at the announcement. I thought it would come in another week at least. However, we have yet to see what the governor says. I’m sure it’ll be the same. My oldest burst into tears, I covered my face saying noooo, I can’t. And my hubs was on the phone w/ his Mom. My middle says, what? did she die or something? He’s so completely unfazed with all this. Except when he wasn’t allowed to go out to pick out donuts today. Holy cow was he affected then.
I’m sorry Tasha. It does suck. The whole situation is horrible. The announcement made me relieved, because it really scared me that he’d want to do that to all of us. It is way to soon. It is up to you of course if your govenor opens it in a week or so, but I’d stay home. It just isn’t safe and that is a horrible scary thing.
I’m home at least until the 27th and I miss my work and I’m worried about if they will pay me after that if they extend the lay off, but I hope they do unless something dramatically improves.

Watched the last of Hart of Dixie today. That show just got cornier and cornier towards the end. I didn’t care for the ending even though things ended nicely. And finished Little Women. I really enjoyed that movie. Never watched the classic or read the book if there was one, but I didn’t really like Amy’s character. Or Laurie, he seemed like a flake. Also, I’m confused on the ending. Did it end the way she wrote it in the movie or the way he told her to write it? Oh! And, I watched The Outsiders again last night. It’s been like, 15 years? I don’t even know, but a long time. I was so obsessed back then and had a huge crush on Dally. It’s funny, this time around, I didn’t hate the movie, but it really needs more dialogue. Also, less crying, the over dramatics between the brothers was ridiculous, though I understood the point being made. Still think all the actors were phenomenal. And, I think Dally was doomed from the start. Actually didn’t really like him at all this time and couldn’t see him ever being reformed had things been different. I’d have been happy with Soda. *sigh* 🤣 Funny how age changes perspective. Always evolving.
Yes, Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women. I havent watched this new adaptation, but in the book she marries the professor.
I liked how it all tied up in Hart of Dixie. I want my Lavon Hayes to be my best friend and feed me breakfast everyday. Talk me through everything all calm, kind, and funny. He is my favorite character on that show.
The hospital scene was just too silly for me, but it was an enjoyable show. And I also like Lavon.
