- Just One Look by Rosalind James <— BACK ON THE LIST ‘CAUSE JAN IS ENJOYING IT!!
Jan: We are still in lockdown here (Australia). Poop. So anyway, the upside is I’m doing lots of reading. I’m already 2/3 through Just One Look and really liking it. The grumpy American neurosurgeon heroine who moves to New Zealand and falls for a hot rugby player. I like Rosalind James’ writing style and characters.
- Three Dates With You: A Rules of Love Novella by Lauren Blakely <— LAUREN BLAKELY FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS!! “…In theory, dating again sounds easy. In practice, it’s terrifying. - NINE (HEROES MC FORT HOOD 1): MC ROMANCE AGE GAP by Autumn Summers
- Merciless (Steel Demons MC Book 9) by Crystal Ash
- The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood <— TASHA J LOVED IT!
Tasha J: Book rec and FLT!! I started The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood a couple days ago and really dug into it more yesterday and I finished it!! Binged it all day, couldn’t put it down. Feels so good, I missed that. And a romance at that. I feel like I don’t read enough of them anymore, but when I do and it’s a good one, I feel so happy!
So, back to the book, I smiled and laughed throughout. Loved the academic setting and science talk, it wasn’t done so bad that it went over my head and Olive was down to Earth and relatable. And the fake dating trope can go one of 2 ways with me, I really liked it here. Dr. Carlsen was the perfect mix of like grumpy-ish, but sweet, and a little mysterious, and I really loved the banter and dynamic between the 2. For me, it was a little bit of a slow burn. Or at least I loved the build up to that first really good all in the feels scene, ya know?
It was just enough without being too much. Conflict was a little annoying, but most of them are. Didn’t deter my joy. Lol! Loved the writing in this one and would love to read more by the author.
And, the FLT- “My husband doesn’t recognize my face.” Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
Mony: Thanks for the recommendation Tasha! Looks like it’s right up my alley plus it’s 4.5 on Goodreads. Good timing. I’m having a hard time finding a book match these days. It Happened One Summer & The Sinner had a lot of strengths but I couldn’t connect. I think this one & A Deal with the Devil will make me a happy camper.
- Who Can I Run To by Monica Walters <— LIVE!! SHE’S GRIEVING.. “…When tragedy strikes, it hits hard, and Chantrice Leonard is still reeling from its blow. Life just isn’t the same, and she’s doing her best to rid her spirit of the grief she feels by submerging herself in work. She believes that as long as she keeps busy, she won’t have to deal with the loss she’s suffering. However, a family dinner, in which she meets a man that was impacted by her loss as well, forces her to face it head on…“

Happy Friday! It’s our last day in Mexico. Trying to find something to read on the plane tomorrow. I don’t wanna go! *stomps feet*
I was supposed to go to Mexico…
*sigh*
😉
I’ll go. I can’t wait to hear all about it, R!!
When you do go, I can’t recommend Isla Mujeres enough. I could live here easily!
Glad to hear you made it to Mexico! Any more details to report… 🙂
Would love to hear more about Mexico!
It was a fantastic trip. We stayed on 3 different sides of the island to see what we like best and the consensus is: everything but centro. It’s so easy here (almost everyone speaks English, and they’re all genuine and friendly), and it’s very safe. I *may* have had a little too much wine one night and got separated from my husband (with no phone or money), but I was rescued by a local singer we’d me previously who took me to her friend’s house across the street, gave me a beer, and let me use her phone. While waiting for my husband’s cab, she burst into song and did a mini concert for all the night owls still on the street. I think I’d marry her if I could! 😆
Playa Norte is as beautiful as it is in pictures, but it’s crowded with tourists and boats and the drinks are watered down, so we mostly stuck to the gulf side. When we weren’t lounging at beach clubs, we were exploring the island in a golf cart. That was our favorite thing to do. Hop in and go, with no directions or destination. We found some really cool places–one being El Borracho Burro Cantina (The Drunk Donkey) who had a Michael Jackson impersonator the day we popped in.
We can’t wait to come back. I think this will be a 2+ visits per year destination for us.
And everyone here is very Covid conscience. The locals always have masks on, even driving solo! Many of the businesses take your temp when you enter and give you hand sanitizer. Masks are required in most places until you sit down.
Thank you for all the information! Sounds amazing. I’m saving your info in my travel folder.
It encourages me to start travelling again.
At our end, we’re working on having a winter in Seville This may be foolish but it’s hard to tell. But the dreaming is pretty sweet. If we start booking, it’ll need to be flexible cancellation.
I’m trying to get my head around starting to live more fully rather than waiting but it’s tough. Here in Canada we’ve been on serious, almost continuous, lockdowns. So I now need to look at things differently, So we shall see.
Oh wow, pictures are gorgeous! (I googled 😉) And sounds like you had an awesome adventure. How fun, making friends with the locals! Glad it was super safe as well.
It’s so cool how they remember you. We were walking through a residential neighborhood to dinner last night and someone drove by on a moped yelling our names. No idea who it was. Then the restaurant owner bought us margaritas because he was going to miss us. I very much appreciated the gesture at the time. Not so much this morning. 😆
Oh RR, I love that part of travelling! And a special maragarita…
These days, I like to stay put in one place for 1-2 months so I can meet people & get hellos from the merchants in my hood. Love that!
Sounds like a great holiday, R. Glad you enjoyed. It will be a while yet before we can do similar (still on lockdown – poop!) but we can dream!
And when you can finally go, you’ll know you’re returning somewhere safe. I’m returning to Texas *thud*
Cat Porter’s new book is out, Freefall The Wind & The Roar Trilogy. This is the author of The Lock & Key Series everyone loved.
I read The Deal with the Devil & it was very good! Finally out of my CR slump. Tali is a fun character – great lines & perfect snarky attitude. Hayes is a grumpy & endearing MMC. His bedroom is – um, interesting (in quirky way). Will say no more. mowhaha 4.5★
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. Just read the sampler. Wow! Hard to wait until Sept.14! If the rest of the book is as good as this, it may be one of the best CRs this year.
Oh shoot! Sorry, I didn’t even realize it was an early release. 😕
not to worry…
I’ve recently read two new releases. Enjoyed the new rugby romance from Rosalind James, Just One Look. Set in beautiful New Zealand. (Did someone say those rugby players are HOT??) 😀 I also read Julie Anne Long’s new HR, I’m Only Wicked With You. Didn’t enjoy that one quite as much. She’s a really good writer, but for me this wasn’t one of her best. Oh well, on to the next read.
Thanks Jan…I follow those two authors, so it’s good to know!
Finished Rock, Paper, Scissors. I liked it, didn’t love it. I didn’t really like the main characters and basically went in blind so was lost as to what the actual plot was for the longest time. But, I got there, and it was interesting, but I was never excited to pick it back up. Good twist though.
