HAPPY FRIDAY & FRIDAY FINDS DAY!!! I can’t believe we’re already Friday but I am not complaining. I think this is going to be a do-nothing but relax and read and watch movies week. No shopping, no planning, no big meals… probably not even any cooking. 😉
In all the excitement of the week, I totally forgot to do a three things on Monday! So I’m doing it today. 🙂
1.) I cheated on my Keto on Christmas Day so along with my ham and roasted veggies I had a few small roasted potatoes and one of R. Renee’s delicious caramels (she sent me some!! And my Christmas crew LOVED them!! Buttery decadent deliciousness!!!) and I had one small chocolate chip cookie and a super-skinny slice of super-sweet fatty yummy cheesecake. Like… I mean… a sliver-slice. OH BOY!!! I surprisingly feel good today. Even with all that I think I kept my carbs at 100g, so that helps. 😉
2.) I went shopping last night for all my white & clear Christmas ornaments (50% off!!) since I want to have an all snow theme on my tree next year. Umm… they were already pretty much all gone by the time I got there. *sigh* I did get some stuff though and the search is not over.
3.) I had a second Christmas supper with my family last night via FaceTime. My mom invited our family members (aunts and uncles and cousins) and she set up a beautiful Christmas table, and I was at the table too, via FaceTime. Happy!!!!
P.S. FANTASY ROMANCE LOVERS!! Lookit what I got!! 😀 Make sure to check out today’s Friday Finds newsletter sponsor ➔ Isabella August – Faerie Lords Series Reading Order + Fun Facts & a quick excerpt (she made me giggle)!

- Tall, Dark & Furious (A Pyte/Sentinel Novel Book 6) by R.L. Mathewson <— R.L. MATHEWSON ALERT!! HOLY MOLY IT’S LIVE!!!! 😲😀 R.L. Mathewson’s highly anticipated latest in her Pyte/Sentinal series!! “...Sam had resigned herself to a lot of things over the years, being the town joke, blacking out at inopportune moments, and living with a dog that hated her, but what she hadn’t planned on was suddenly finding five large men destroying her basement, looking for a tomb that she never knew existed. In one moment, her life changed forever, leaving her to wonder how she was going to make it out of this alive...” P.S. Here’s the whole series.
Michelle: I have not read a Mathewson book in years, looking forward to this one based on synposis.
Meagan: Omg yay! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for a new one to come out. Love this series. 🥰
- Dr Stanton Boxset by T.L. Swan <— BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!! OMG LOOKIT THIS SUPER-BARGAIN BOX SET THAT I JUST ONE CLICKED!! (thank you Nancy for this Friday Find!!!) 😀
Marit: It’s soooooo good 😉 He is so hot. But he makes me so mad as well!
Adele: I second Marit’s Dr. Stanton recommendation! It was fantastic, lots of drama, made me cry too… Hail No was also two thumbs up, more of that drama I seem to be in the mood for and action! Definitely a page turner, very creative and well written. There are 3 more in the series…
- Finding Jackson by Anne Holster <— ROCK STAR ROMANCE ALERT!! The author just sent me a copy as a gift (and she also let me know that she’s a fan of some of our angsty bad-boy favorites like Beautiful Disaster & Thoughtless) so you KNOW I had to take a closer look. 😉 And I had to post it here as a Friday Find since it sounds right up our angsty alley! He’s headed nowhere fast… “Everything changes the night Jackson meets Leah. Shy and reserved, she doesn’t smoke and barely drinks; she certainly doesn’t put out. Not exactly the girl from the Bon Jovi videos he watched as a kid. Yet before he knows it, she has become his world. Then, just when it looks like his dreams might come true, betrayal and loss once again threaten everything...”
- Faerie Lords Books 1-3: A Paranormal Romance Box Set by Isabella August <— LIVE!! SERIES BUNDLE ALERT!! The series can be read in any order. “Stolen away. Hiding from the past. They used to be best friends… “…Seeing her for the first time after three years was like a bucket of ice water being poured on me. It chilled me to the bone, making me irrational, angry. No longer is she a little girl but a grown woman with curves and eyes that pierce my black soul. No one knows the darkness that lingers under the surface, all they see is my smile, my charismatic charm. I’m the all American golden boy. Having her back in my life is awakening something inside of me. She reminds me of everything good, everything I’ll never have and I refuse to let her stay…”
- The Witcher Series by Andrzej Sapkowski <— ELA’S SHOUTY-HAPPY CAPS ARE BACK!!! And she commands this of us!!!
Ela: MARYSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!! AND ON THAT NOTE YOU MUST WATCH THE WITCHER STARTING HENRY CAVILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NETFLIX ORIGINAL BASED ON A POLISH AUTHOR’S BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW GO AND BE MERRY
Maryse: LOL!!!!! Oh how I love when you’re shouty-excited!!! Makes me so excited too. ON IT!!! 😀 And the merry part, too.
Robyn: I’m up to episode 4 of The Witcher and lets just say Henry Cavill is to die for with His deep voice, sexy, although kinda dirty, silver hair ( he gets a pass on that because he’s outside wielding that big sword of his a lot! 😉), and lets not forget those tight leathers he dons. Swooooon! Oh, and all his shirtless scenes, the musculature let me tell you is a sight to behold.
Besides Henry, the show is pretty good. My crack words were said a few times, which are “your destiny”. Those words do it for me all the time. I’m watching the rest today while I finish crocheting a blanket for Christmas.
- Princess Ballot: A Dark College Romance (Royals of Arbon Academy Book 1) by by Tate James and Jaymin Eve <— LIVE!! SHE WAS CHOSEN IN A LOTTERY & IS NOW A PAWN BETWEEN TWO Monarchies… “…You have been chosen. She loves her job as a scientist because of the clear-cut answers it can provide. So when she meets Kellan, she is reluctant to fall for his act. However, Kellan quickly proves himself to be an intelligent, and oh-so-attractive adversary, causing Beatrix to question everything she knows…“

Mony: Hi Maryse,
Love the books you just posted. Looking forward to reading them!
Just read The Fixer by Jessica Gadziala (GR 4.24). Fabulous read if you like Rock Chicks (RC). Reads like a Kristen Ashley novel – quirky hot guys security team, wow! hero (Lee Nightingale!), heroine strengthened by the team ,”safe room” antics, unique crime plot lines.
A great find for those who love RCs and want more. (yea!)
- The Way We Fell by MJ Fields <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK!! Catina is loving it!!
Catina: …I just found this by chance. I have been reading all of your books for the last month. I’m reading Ben and Kendall at the moment. I have fallen add over teakettle in love with your writing!
- Blind Sympathy by Roberta Bombonato <— SHE’S A RECLUSIVE BLIND COMPOSER & HE’S A DEMON THAT WANTS HER SOUL… Here’s another recent submission I received, and the blurb had me curious!! “…Alone in a cabin with only her service dog, she’s not at all concerned with her lack of cellphone service in the middle of nowhere. This is her special place where she can be free to relax and let her musical compositions speak to her. Israfel is a demon one assignment short from graduation: possession of an innocent soul. He’s always known he was different from the others of his kind, and meeting the lovely Vafara confirmed it...”
- The Wise Man’s Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, Book 2) by Patrick Rothfuss <— FANTASY ALERT!! Julia’s 2019 favorite! (and a favorite of Sheri & Terrie too)
Julia: My favorite book of 2019 was A Wise Man fears by Patrick Rothfuss. I know it’s an older series but I just read it this year. It was a totally unique series. I have felt like alot of books are predictable and this one was not.

HE WAKES HER COMATOSE HEART… “...She fell in love with the street the moment she first twisted her ankle on its cobbles. Her double-fronted unit is now a spa. She has sunk all her money into the lease and refurbishment. She’s sunk all her hope into the carefully designed treatment rooms, the calm white reception space, the bijou flat carved out of the floor above. Sadie has a mission to connect…“
- <— SATURDAY MORNING BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!! Red, White & Royal Blue: A Novel <— HUGE HIT OF THE YEAR (has made a few of our BEST OF 2019 lists) and it’s ON SALE TODAY (US & CA)!!!! I just one-clicked it for myself! 😀 YAY ME!!!! *claps*
Kathy: It was funny where I found my self laughing out loud, touching, and just so well written. …If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!! Hoping more books come out with some of the secondary characters in the book. …had all of the emotions (funny, sweet, sad, etc). One of my best books of the year (besides Someday, Someday). I even let my precocious 13 year old read this novel… as it is not very descriptive sexually (scenes fade to black) and she read it 3 times!
R. Renee: I *just* finished Red, White & Royal Blue and I am a sobbing mess. I think I’ve just entered into another massive hangover, and it has, in fact, bumped Daisy Jones from this list. Matter of fact it’s at number 2. OMG.
Tiffany: My favorite romance this year was probably The Bride Test or Red, White, & Royal Blue~!

MARYSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!!! Oh how I love when you’re shouty-excited!!! Makes me so excited too.
ON IT!!! 😀
And the merry part, too.
1. Debating if I want to go to the grocery store or not……not is winning.
2. Going to make or try to make bibimbap today. I love rice.
3. Get in a few chapters of The Wolf at The Door (ku book I just started) then catch up on Chocolate (a sad kdrama I started).
Oh my gosh! I just watched the Little Women movie with my 13 year old daughter. It was absolutely amazing. Seriously, one of the best movies I have ever seen. My daughter loved it too!! The movie is written and directed by Greta Gerwig who wrote also wrote and directed Lady Bird. I kept looking at the character who plays Laurie and knew I had seen him somewhere in a movie. And sure enough he was in her Lady Bird movie.
I bought some books yesterday with some Christmas money from my parents. I knew if it went in our checking account, it would all get absorbed with household expenses. So I bought those books that never go on sale (Shayla Black, Lani Lynn Vale, Ann Mayburn, etc).
1. I’m just not feeling anything after Red, White & Royal Blue so I think I’m (finally) going to start tackling House of Leaves a little each night along with a reread of Gabriel’s Rapture.
2. I finished my Goodreads Levels challenge and I don’t even feel like I cheated! Except for counting one book that I DNF’d at 50% but it was 650 pages, so I think half of it should count!
3. I LOVE my new Roomba that I got on Black Friday. We named her Lucy and she lives under a china cabinet so when she’s not in use, you don’t even know she’s there! It’s like she has her own personal garage!
Ooooh good idea! Mine lives behind a recliner in my living room.
I’m glad you named her. I always tell my cocker spaniel, Gracie, that Naomi is going to be doing the floors soon and she gets settled in her special lookout spot. That spot is the back of the couch which she can see everything from. Glad you got one!! Hey I want some caramels next Christmas!
My husband has the app loaded on his phone since I read she has issues with Samsung, but ever since we moved her we can’t get her to come on automatically. I need to find another way to access the app because he’s hopeless! 😂
Hey, I’m reading more of books I never finished. Currently Bring Down the Stars, almost there! I’d like to finish that one and The One before I trudge on to anything else, but we’ll see.
I feel like I haven’t had any me time at all lately, but I shoved some in today and I just got done watching episode 2 season 2 of YOU!! I didn’t even know it was out yet, but I am so loving it!!!
OMG I’m DYING to watch You 2 but I want to get some reading in, and I know that show will take me down a marathon-watch rabbit hole with nothing accomplished. So I’m probably gonna marathon it next weekend instead.
So quiet. Is it the after holiday lull or just the weekend.
Holiday lull over here, sorta. I’ve spent several days playing with Christmas toys, seems everything I got needs put together or done together. And I’m trying to shove cleaning in every little bit I can. Today and tomorrow especially. We’re going away Monday and Tuesday for New Years, so I have to have things in order, packed, and a little grocery shopping done by tomorrow. I plan on taking the trees down when we get back and then, hopefully, get into a normal routine again.
Have fun on your trip. I hope it rings in the New Year with lots of love and joy.
Thanks Bev! I wish you a good New Year too.
Packing today. I’m only partly excited, this trip is more for the kids to make memories with friends and cousins like I did on New Years growing up. My ideal night would be to eat yummy food at home and watch Netflix, read, and maybe play a game or 2. I’m an antisocial homebody. Lol.
Bev I think it’s just the holiday lull for me. My boyfriend and I were invited to another get-together yesterday and we declined because we just wanted a quiet day and evening watching Football, eating and snuggling quietly.
A breather.
I’m back today though!! AND!!! I’m reading Red, White & Royal Blue. How could I possibly resist????
I’m in the process of updating my top ten list with that book right now for my newsletter. Poor Daisy just got bumped!
Oh!!! Thank you for reminding me. I’mm gonna add it to your list right now. 🙂
Red, White, and Royal Blue was a nice read. It did take me a few chapters to get into the rhythm of it, but that could of been my slump.
It is raining here so today is a mix of reading a werewolf mystery, catching up on dramas, and puttering around getting some house work done…usually with a podcast playing.
I didn’t know you were a football fan?? Or does football equal reading on the couch while he watches next to you?
You got it bev. 😉 I read. Tee hee!! But snuggled under a blankie together was good enough for me!
Maryse, have you ever tried the pot roast in an instant pot or pressure cooker? I’m making it for New Years but I don’t have 10 hours unless i make it the day before, which I suppose would work but it gets hotter as it sits!
I have, but it’s been awhile. I remember I liked it. But honestly, to me, nothing beats the oven for a good roast.
Oh, have you ever had it cooked in a salt crust? So good.
I’m making roast in the crockpot right now. It’s a different recipe that my usual, but should be good. I’ve only ever done them in the crockpot. Tastes just like Grandma’s outta the oven, I think. Maybe if they were side by side to try, I’d notice a difference, but it’s all the same to me. 🤷🏼♀️
Oh, they are all good. I love roast. Maybe it is nostalgia, but something about that roast with the crisper top and those potatoes roasted all golden with the juices….so good.
But prime rib roasted in rock salt is so rich and so good. I’ve only had it a couple times though and I like mine more well done than most.
Totally agree on the veggies! I would never make them in a crock pot! Only oven roasted for me!
I’m actually trying out my air fryer for “oven-roasted” veggies today. Did my Ina Garten Brussel Sprouts in it just a few minutes ago and the golden and crispy (and have nice burnt edges!!) 🙂
So far so good…
Oooh let us know how it goes. I wanted an air fryer and was told it’s best for frozen fried foods, which I don’t usually eat. If it’s good with veggies, I may need to get one!
Okay now I just sliced up 2 sweet potatoes drizzled in olive oil, Himalayan salt and cracked pepper and air-fried them at the highest temp for exactly 10 minutes, and they are PERFECT!!!!
Moist and sweet on the inside, but the outside is definitely golden and crispy. I can’t even believe it!!! I can just let this little thing “fry-roast” my veggies to my hearts content while I read.
P.S. I took a picture of my sweet potatoes still in the air-fryer pan-thingie if you want to see how they look.
OMG yes! That sounds awesome! I took Tasha’s advice and had cilantro with mine last time. I made a cilantro lime butter and it was sinful!
Same. I’ve had prime rib twice and I don’t like a lot of pink. The last time I had it was 4 years ago at the same place we’re going and I had the worst stomach bug that night. I’m not saying it was the rib, cuz I sampled a ton of goodies, but I won’t be eating it there again. Lol. I’m bringing my own food.
Prime Rib is my absolute FAVORITE meat ever.
I used to devour Prime Rib sammiches (fatty parts and all) dipped in Au Jus. How I miss all that soggy delicious salty mess.
I love a french dip.
I should clarify, I’m making the pepperoncini roast. I know you can use a pressure cooker for a regular roast but I wasn’t sure about this specific recipe.
I usually don’t like cooking in a crock pot. I’m an oven or stove girl like bev, but this particular roast is fab in a crock pot!
Google says yes. Though I didnt read the recipes for adaptations.
You need someone on here to be a Guinea pig.
Oh duh! I didn’t even think to google it! Thanks! 😆🤦♀️
I always make my pepperoncini roast in the instant pot. It’s delish!!!
Do you do the exact same measurements as the original recipe or do you add water? And how long do you cook it?
I use water/beef broth so that the liquid comes up to an inch from top of meat. Set instant pot for manual meat or pressure cook on high (depending on which one you have) for 45 minutes. Let pressure release for about 20 minutes, then you’re good to go.
Thanks!
You’re welcome! I love this roast in the instant pot. I always make it this way. I love ham in the instant pot too.
R. I haven’t tried ANY meat in the Instant Pot yet…Oh no! I take that back. I did a sort of poached chicken breast once.
I do rice (or did rice), boiled eggs, broccoli & cauliflower and pretty much any veggies, my greek green beans, mashed potatoes…
I’ve always only used my crockpot for the slow, all-day cooking stuff (spaghetti sauces, my favorite chicken tagine recipe which is blasphemy to do it on a crock pot instead of an actual Tagine – but it works 😉 , my roasts, soups, etc…)
I’ve also done a macaroni and cheese in the Instant Pot once that was actually pretty darn great!
I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to try it. I’m having a guest over so I don’t want to risk screwing it up, but I do prefer it the same day so cooking it ahead of time isn’t ideal. I’ll let you know if I do!
I finished Bring Down the Stars last night. Obviously with a doozy ending like that, I should jump right into book 2, and I did a little. But my mood wanted something different and I couldn’t get back into The One either, despite how much I want to finish it. Maybe because they’re more than 1 book? Anyway so I was looking through everything I’d started and thought I’d give Jane Doe a whirl again. I was only 3% in, I think. And now I’m hooked Ana’s don’t wanna put it down. She’s so unique and I know it’s a thriller, but I think she’s kinda funny.
