Misfit (Death Dwellers MC), the last book in the series by Kathryn Kelly comes out Aug 23. It’s been almost a year since the last one came out due to the author’s bout with cancer (she wrote an incredible article about it on her website….brought me to tears) & I know the fans of this series have been REALLY looking forward to this final story.
I was disappointed in The Distance Between Us. Hope to finish Joyride & The Lovers Lament this weekend, with Joyride up next.
Just to start the weekend and I’m the only one here so far.
Three things.
1. I love my coffee press right now. French roast, half &half, and sugar is the start to my mornings lately.
2. I plan on watching Keanu tonight or tomorrow.
3. I had a crush on Gilbert in the Sullivan adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. I still want a Gilbert. 🙂
The only thing that’s really worked for me recently is historical romance. I seem to be addicted to the Mackenzies Series. I just finished book 2 and downloaded book 3, The Many Sins of Lord Cameron. I’m listening to them on audible and the narrator is really good. Love her accent.
The Fifteenth Minute by Sarina Bowen is .99.
Fabi I loved the Mackenzie series, have you tried the Captain Lacey books which I believe are written by the same author but under a difference pen name (Ashley Gardner) ? Brilliant series 🙂
I haven’t yet Tracey. I’ll look it up when I finish the Mackenzie series. Thank you.
Three things:
1. I should have “trained” for Cozumel.
2. I swam with a barracuda (not on purpose).
3. Flying through a storm…not my thing.
Lol. R, sounds like you had an adventure.
Three things.
1. I really LOVE my dogs. They are the best smugglers.
2. I hope to watch the scariest horror movie in the world this weekend (I dunno which, yet though)
3. I had the biggest crush on Rob Lowe as a young teen. BIGGEST. Obsessed.
Er…
SNUGGLERS. Not smugglers. LOL!!!!!!!!
Suddenly my dogs sound extra-cool. They may just deserve their own “bad-guy” book.
*snort*
😛
Your looking for scary and I’m looking forward to Keanu, lol. I’m a huge wimp in regards to horror movies, I’ll stick with the kitten.
Hey, who knows what secret life your dogs lead. Maybe Pim and the UPS guy are in cahoots.
Oh, did you ever read the Lowe memoir. It was ki m d of fun. I liked the section on the Outsiders.
Smugglers LOL! I love scary movies too!!
Bev, we had a blast, but it wasn’t as easy as it was in my 20s. They had Campari. I was done before I started…
LOL. Love your cool smuggling dogs Maryse. Those naughty little bandits.
Three things
1. I’m having a coffee and a peanut butter biscuit (cookie) while I decide which Laura Florand book to try next . (I’m in a mad Laura Florand phase at the moment. Thank you bev for introducing Laura and I).
2. I’m digging out my suitcase today to start packing for my holiday in England and Wales with my sister. We leave in 2 weeks. Wheeeee!
3. My cat is playing on the floor beside me, with a bit of wool he is pretending is a mouse. Tossing it up in the air then pouncing. So cute and funny.
Jan, I’m so glad you are enjoying them. I really need to start her chocolate series.
England & Wales—–that is like bucket list. So, envious. Where all are you going?
Happy Friday ladies!! 😀
Three things…
1. Birthday cake vodka mixed with passion fruit nectar is yummy. Weird but yummy.
2. I’m not cooking tonight. *gasp!*
3. I am LOVING White Hot Kiss. Classic JA. I’ve missed these “old-school” PNR feels. Old school…*snort* It was only a few years ago. 😉
Three things:
1. I’m drinking wine out of some paper, screw top carton thingy, it has a rooster on it.
2. I’m considering getting a tattoo at my age (49), must be mid life crisis.
3. I’m becoming a weird dog lady, making homemade dog food, treats, and taking hundreds of pictures of them.
Happy Friday!!!
England, Wales, Cozumel, smuggler doggies, Keanu, horror movies…I love the randomness here. *giggle*
Omg MichelleS…I’m dying laughing here! LOL!!!
London and a bit of a tour around various beauty spots of England/Wales, including the Lakes District *happy sigh* Checking out the beautiful old houses, beautiful gardens, museums, textiles/ embroidery…… heaven….. 🙂
Three things:
1) I am watching the Olympics while icing my knee (I have
tendonitis)
2) I just realized that I’ve never read the Crossfire series before! I know *gasp*
3) My dog is laying next to me licking his paw and cleaning his face. Love him so much!
Jan its one of my dreams to go to England one day! So jealous of you and your sister!
MichelleS, do have one in mind?
Hey, what if Hobit can use all 4 of his legs, you know a master of deception. A little Keyser Soze.
MichelleS, I’ll go with you so you can feel young. I’ve been wanting a tatoo for years. My age has held me back but I still think about it all the time.
…I REALLY wanted to make THE comment about MichelleS’ wine. But if Amy can resist, I surely can. *still cackling*
My 80 yr old mother in law just asked me to take her to get one!
Amy you are reading it? Really? *squee!*
MichelleS, get one! I’ve been thinking of one, but I’m petrified of needles.
Jan, my envy knows no bounds. That’s on my bucket list too.
Three things:
1. I just went nuts on Pintrest, just pinning ideas like crazy.
2. I love Baby Lips lip gloss. My peppermint one from Christmas is almost gone.
3. My cat is nuts and meows like crazy at the bedroom doors if she can’t see anyone.
No way R. lol maybe I should go with her so I don’t feel old ha!
I’ve been told it’s ok to get them when you’re older as long as you pick parts of your body that are less likely to sag with age.
The premise is kinda ridiculous, but making me laugh.
And seriously look at him.
Tattoo ideas: Vulcan Calligraphy (nerd alert); a Fairy (love me some Fae).
WHAT NOW??? What’d I say? The Rooster? Okay…. I can think of some rooster-y naughty words. But it really does have a rooster on it. Apparently it’s a “giant 47 pound” rooster! OMG. I kid you not.
YES!!!!! Lets get tattoos!! Ive always wanted one done by Turkish tattoo artist Bicem Sinik! Gorgeous. Inside forearm is a good place.
Three things:
1) The highlight of my week is my art classes. Beautiful ladies and so much fun creating.
2) Ive given up on running the city to bay marathon…pass the wine.
3) i am hosting my sister in laws 60th birthday party next weekend and have decided on a consevatory theme with loads of plants and white flowers and industrial stuff.
I knew those dogs of Maryses were too cute to be true!! They’re really pirate smugglers and you’re right Bev….definately in cahoots with the UPS dude. 🙂
See!!! https://www.cellartracker.com/m/wines/97069
Fabi…do you mean about the screw top cock juice…er, wine she is drinking? Why do you think I was dying laughing?? 😛
Yep Tessa, I AM reading it and loving it! The prequel was okay (Jas and Dez, right?) but I am really enjoying WHK!! 😀 And your cat reminds me of my bird…she goes crazy and shrieks when I go upstairs, and I have to whistle a certain way to her so she will calm down. She copies the whistle and we go back and forth until she quiets down. *sigh* Don’tcha love having pets that love us back?
*passes MichelleS’ cock wine to Lisa after taking a healthy gulp*
And tattoos are not too terribly painful, or at least not to me. I have the obligatory tramp stamp from my 20’s. With hubby’s name right smack in the middle of it. For his viewing pleasure. *snicker*
OMG I really did just post that…
I’m blaming my nice healthy buzz.
I’m just going to go and hide in my blankie fort now.
Three things:
1. I sent one of my kiddos to a slumber party and allowed my son to invite the brother to spend the night….whatever was I thinking?!?! I was down one for the night?!?!?!
2. I am re-reading KA’s Broken Dove in prep for starting KA’s Midnight Soul.
3. Saturday’s are my favorite days…the ultimate promise of freedom to do absolutely nothing that I do not want to do!!!!
It’s a chubby little thing… Snort… “Cock juice”…. Oh Lordy… https://www.heb.com/product-detail/rex-goliath-pinot-grigio/1784378
Fabi – don’t dare me, I might just take you up on it. We could meet at Elm Street Tattoos. What’re you thinking for tattoo ideas?
I’ve had that MichelleS! They have it in bottles too.
I used to drink it in a bottle. This is so much cheaper, and I can’t tell difference.
This is one tattoo idea: “hope” in Vulcan (no laughing)… This is serious…
Ok, Keanu was completely ridiculous and finny.
I live that MichelleS! Mine is similar (but not exactly) to the pic I use on GR.
Yes to screw top cock wine. If Amy is going there, I’m going to follow. 😉
MichelleS have you tried HEB’s Cul de Sac wine? It varies between $3 and $4. The merlot has a faint plum aftertaste that I love. It’s not sweet and it’s not dry. I don’t drink it much anymore because I prefer the driest I can get, but you might want to try it. The chardonnay is good too.
Two additional things….
1. I CHERISH quiet moments especially at night….like right now.
2. 12 yr old boys are NOT quiet.
*shaking head*
*please pass me the tequila*
Why Elm street tatoos? Friend or rec? I have a rec from some years ago. A guy at work who had beautiful art on his body. But not sure I can find the info now.
DG 12 y.o. boys are A LOT quieter than 12 y.o. girls. Glass half full. Lol
Fabi…not sure if I agree on that one…just witnessed a very loud, Wii gun fight in my great room. Like shouting out kinda loud….glass half full of tequila???
lol I was referring to looking at the bright side of things. I still prefer boys playing a shooting game than little girls squealing over everything. There are more girls than boys in my family so I have lots of squealing memories. hahaha
Yeah…it just the thought of what’s in the glass…and I have always been a hopeful, glass half full type of girl.
Hopefully for tequila. ha! I’m a rum girl myself. Tequila makes me violent and I’m too old to get riled up anymore. 😉
That was *hopeful*
Damn autocorrect
Michelle S that is an attractive tattoo image (Vulcan ‘hope’). Very artistic. Just make sure that’s what it ‘really’ means LOL. We’ve all heard about the person with the tattoo (or t-shirt) with an inspirational message in another alphabet they can’t actually read. And then when someone who CAN read that alphabet sees it and laughs hysterically cos it really says f*** your grandmother or something like that …..
Altho, now I think about it, I guess there aren’t that many around who can actually read Vulcan these days…….
DG at least boys dont shriek and squeal at the top of their lungs!!
Very true Lisa…thankful my sweet girl is not a shrieker…yet.
Fabi…coconut rum has it’s merits…and is also very yum!
saw online where a 105 y.o. lady only had one birthday wish…a fireman with tattoos. Just goes to show…it never changes…we ALL want a hottie with tattoos!!!
3 things
1) I love Fridays the best day then it’s the weekend.
2) My dog nudges my elbow to keep patting him while I read. So cute.
3) pen folds red wine no 3 is my favourite wine.
Girls are definitely louder than boys. OMG. You have No idea ringing in ears after.
Fabi have you ever read Judith mc naught until you, a kingdom of dreams. There’s a few they are all really good by that author Also another one by Jennifer Donnelly called winter rose that is another fantastic read in that genre.
Kingdom of Dreams was so good. I fell in love with that book and went through two paperbacks of it.
Little dude shrieks. He’s 11 and when he starts having a melt down he’ll start shrieking on purpose. He forgets that I’m hard of hearing and it doesn’t phase me.
omg DG way to make me feel better with the birthday story
Thanks for the recs Melinda. Looking them up now.
I’m thinking of starting A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet tomorrow or Monday. Anyone want to join in?
Okay, so you guys can empathize with me then about the kiddos thing…I managed to get roped into supervising a movie outing with a bunch of girls aged 9 to 11 today. The last time this happened was to watch Cinderella, and oh my lord it was crazy. But man, they are adorable. 😉 Until they start squealing and screeching all at once…
A Promise of Fire…makes me think of Khaleesi on GoT. 😉
3 things.
1) My birthday is next week and I am dreading it… it always winds up being a sh*tty day
2) I am thinking of getting a tattoo as well (I do not have one yet)
3) My children are all gone places today and I am home alone. (picture Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone and that’s me ATM)
4 (because apparently I cannot be trusted – d/t number 3 most likely) I am in a book rut… blah…
Grey!!!!!
Is it your birthday yet????
:D!!!!!
Lots of August birthdays! Mine was Thursday. It was definitely sh*tty because I was stuck on air planes all day and night in stormy weather. I HATE flying. Even in perfect weather!
You guys have me searching tats now! I found this one last night.
It combines my pen name logo with my book title! But I already have an unfortunate “rose” on my ankle I should probably do something with first!
Kingdom of Dreams?? Ooh. Sounds good. Went & read Amazon reviews. Going to see if my library has it.
Need to finish Midnight Soul today. Holding off on opinion until I’m done.
Not sure if this will work, but this is what I drew for myself two years ago? I think? in case I was ever brave enough for a tattoo.
https://xandory.deviantart.com/art/Fae-Tattoo-629482903
That’s awesome Tessa. Are you still thinking of doing it?
Eventually, yeah. I might test my tolerance with something small, like a treble clef on the back of my neck. Again, needles! lol
Kigndom of Dreams is definitely worth looking in to, MichelleS. I fell in love with the whole story.
A Promise of Fire is checked out of my library. I put it on request, but it won’t be back until Oct. Something about Off Campus check out.
R happy belated birthday !!!
Grey, happy upcoming bday. It’ll be a great one. 😉
Tessa, that’s n awesome drawing for a tatoo.
There’s quite a few of us who want tatoos and don’t have them yet. We should meet up and Vegas and get tatoos together. 🙂
More birthdays!
Happy belated birthday, R!!!! 😀
Grey…what day is yours next week?
I already have a tattoo but can I still meet up with y’all in Vegas To get another one? Or is this a tattoo-virgin only meet-up??
And I STILL say Maryse needs to go to Vegas and get Mrs. Maddox on her hip just like Abby did.
Just sayin’. 😉
I’m still completely tattoo-less Amy… maybe one day. 😉
If non-virgins are not allowed, we may have a problem. :-/
*snicker*
How did I miss the birthdays? Happy belated birthday R and Happy Birthday next week, Grey! Hopefully this year will be an exception.
And thank you Fabi! Vegas sounds fun though, needles!
Tessa!!! I love it. I would love a Fae tattoo. Vegas sounds great. We should so do it. Or at the next romance book lovers convention. Or whatever it’s called. Maryse? You in? Do you have s tattoo yet? I also thought about a compass. I don’t know why they appeal to me.
That’s what I love about tats…when they have personal meaning like that, even if it’s just that the person loves the symbol or object or whatever.
What was that book where she was a tattoo artist trying to break free from the MC she was kind of forced into, and she had a bunch of tats which all had special meaning? Anyone remember?
I’ve thought for a while now about getting a tat on my wrist with a matching one on my hubby, maybe something that is half of the design with the other half on him so they are whole when put together…like maybe half of an infiniti symbol in an abstract design or something.
Yeah, I’m cheesy like that. 😉
My birthday is Wednesday. We’re just gonna skip it this year LOL….
Tattoos… I’m not scared of needles… I’m a nurse remember LOL. Although it is generally better to give than to receive, at least in this particular circumstance, needles don’t bother me. I think I’d like a stenciling of a 4 leaf clover with each leaf more of a heart shape to symbolize my children, including the one that I lost. But obviously tattoos are a forever thing and I haven’t found one that is totally me yet…and so… I’m still tattoo-less.
And still in a book rut. What is everyone else doing this fine Saturday night?
A Fae tattoo sounds great!
Yeah, Judith McNaught’s historicals are a bit ‘old school’ (that sounds dumb???) YKWIM…. but I do remember loving her books, back in the early 90s I think??? I liked some of her CRs too, at the time. I haven’t read her books in a long time, but it seems she’s still pretty popular. Whitney My Love, Almost Heaven, A Kingdom of Dreams, Something Wonderful. Sweet, virginal but feisty hs, hot, manly, alpha Hs. It’s all coming back to me now. I wonder how they stand up after all this time, and all the more modern (and more explicit) books I’ve read since. I’m sure I’ve still got all my old paperback copies somewhere. Looks like they’re not on Kindle, but the local secondhand bookstore is worth checking out if you want to try them.
Grey, your tattoo idea symbolising your children sounds beautiful……
And yours, Amy…. not cheesy, just beautiful.
wait for it…. decided to…. watch…. Sherlock
Loving all of the tattoo ideas…and a vegas group trip to get them done sounds wonderful.
This is a pic of bicem siniks compass style tattoo Michelle S
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=bicem+sinik+compass+tattoo&oq=bicem+sinik+compass+tattoo&aqs=chrome..69i57.29600j0j4&client=ms-android-telstra-au&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=3Qr5E9YVQ6OwrM%3A
Loving the Fae style idea Tessa and the treble clef, gorgeous four leaf clover (beautiful symbolism Grey), infinti symbols and matching tatts for Amy and her man….and yes, Mrs Maddox for Maryse!!
Happy belated birthday R and Grey I hope this birthday is the exception and can bring you a few good moments.
PS Tessa my daughter does a lot of verbal stimming which Ive learned to tune out and barely notice but I know it bothers others. Its just her noise to me…and I can tell yhe subtke differnce between happy noise and frustrated noise.
Amy your very brave doing the movies with a group of girls….they DO literally squeal for every emotion…excitment, embarrassment, happiness, shock (which is a regular state….like every time a boy is present)! Too funny.
Sherlock! What do you think Grey?
Amy,…do you think her husband
Would have an issue with it?
My 14 year old daughter and I watched episode 1 of Sherlock. I liked it well enough to start watching the second, but then my boys got home from their preseason NFL game all full of excitement, so we will continue tomorrow. Sherlock reminds me a bit of Dr House which I absolutely adored… So yeah…LOL!
OMG I cooked. I actually cooked something and it was even edible.
See, a week or two ago Maryse said she was cooking chicken picatta and linguini and I thought -yum- that sounds delicious. So…I started looking at recipes online and ran across one that didn’t seem too terribly complex. Although, usually that’s deceiving considering my nonexistent cooking skills. Anyways…it took me a couple of weeks to get my courage up, but tonight I did it. I really cooked (edible) chicken picatta and linguini. It was a little too lemony but still edible. I added a salad, French bread and some wine and voilà, I made a meal all by myself.
Thank you Maryse!
I’m proof – you’re never too old.
YAY Fabi!!!!!!!!!!!
Chicken Piccata was brand new for me, too! I had never made it before, nor had I ever eaten it, and my sister and I went crazy over it when I tried. So I made it a second time, and I will make it again this week. LOVE IT!
*hug*
I’m so happy you enjoyed it. I too, found my second attempt a bit too lemony, so I’ll just cut that a little and it’ll be perfect again. 😀
*happy dance*
I’m sure it was amazing! There’s no such thing as too lemony just as there’s no such thing as too garlicky or too chocolaty…
lol, thanks R
Definitely no such thing as too chocolatey!!
Send me your email fabi, i’ii send you some easy yummy recipes. I love cooking nearly as much as reading.
I make all the cakes where I work, for birthdays as they say there better than the shops. But I don’t know about that.
Happy belated birthday R. And next week will be the best. Birthday yet Grey.
One time, I had 10, nine year olds for a sleep over birthday. OMG I was exhausted, no sleep, constant entertaining. And screaming a recipe for disaster.
I have read all of Judith McNaught, I don’t think she has electronic books all paper, library has them otherwise book depository is really cheap. Her writing is really good. A historical romance is similar now to back in 90’s. I
Thanks for the belated b-day wishes! Yes, Fabi I have some recipes too with “notes for dummies” that I write for myself lol. Just don’t ask for my rib recipe hahahaha.
So I’m being productive shopping for Vegas packages. Thanks everyone for that…
Happy birthday R!!!!!!! 😀 😀 :D!!!!!
Happy birthday to you too Maryse!!!!!! I toasted you in Mexico…but then I drank your shot. 🙁
LOL R. Well someone had to drink it. 😉 Glad you got a double. *snort* 😛
I forgot to mention this when it started but all of Georgette Heyer’s books are on sale for her bday! If anyone is interested. Not sure how long it will last.
HR but written in like the 1920s.
Oh, and I second the JM books, CR & HR.
Fabi, I’m not a good cook either. I do cook and occasionally try a recipe, very hit or miss. Still cheaper than eating out or convenience food all the time though.
I love you guys for offering me your recipes. *hugs* but it’s not the recipe that’s the problem, it’s the total lack of skill. Tonight’s dinner was a huge surprise that anything edible came out of that experiment.
This is how it usually goes…”Mom, will you make me a grilled cheese?” daughter asks and off I trot to the kitchen. The first slice of bread breaks into several pieces as I try to slather butter on it. The second piece of bread sticks to the plate as I lift it to put in the frying pan. Once I manage to get two buttered pieces of bread into the pan, I turn them over a million times because I never know how long it will take to toast so I have to keep checking. Finally I put a slice of cheese to melt on the bread. I flip it a couple more times and just when I think I’m done and reaching for a serving plate, I flip one more time and realize that side is completely charcoal black.
…
I pick up two new pieces of bread, very carefully spread butter on them…hand my daughter a soggy and undercooked grilled cheese sandwich.
You don’t want to hear about my hot dog boiling abilities.
Believe me, it’s not the recipies…
Which is why I simply had to share tonight’s miracle with y’all. Maryse inspired me.
OOOOh Fabi!!! I inspired you?!!! I’m backing through the comments to see what you cooked. :D!!!
I get the grilled cheese. Happens to me too especially when I try to use mayo instead of butter (restaurant trick that tastes AWESOME if you can figure out how to keep it from sticking)…but the hot dog thing? I’m going to have to request video of that.
Oh come on R. You’re going to tell me you’ve never over cooked hot dogs?
…
…
…
I CAN’T be the only one. Can I? :-/
Actually no LOL. The only time we make them, they’re on the grill. But I will admit I have to get out my Good Housekeeping cookbook EVERY time I boil a stupid egg because I do it so infrequently I forget.
Oh well…you know when you heat them up they get bigger
and bigger
…
and bigger
…
…
…
until they explode
and get all limp and messy
Come to think of it, I’ve seen it happen to boiled eggs too. Overhearing things tend to explode I guess.
Tonight I cooked a pizza box nobody told me was in the oven. It was probably 1 minute away from a full on fire!
*heating*
too much wine, I’m off to bed before it gets worse
omg! We’ve done that around here. It’s such a convenient place to store left over pizza. … but then, yeah …
btw R, remember that beta you sent my way? It turned out to be an awesome book. In fact, I think she’s publishing it next month.
Really? That’s great! Keep me posted if you hear anything about it! I don’t even remember the name but I love following new writers!
Will do. I’m reading an ARC mobi of it right now. It’s the one I added on GR. It’s dark(ish). I kinda dig a darkish read now and then. Honestly, She’s done such a good job on these characters. They’re dark and gritty and real.
Fabi if you can cook pasta, I promise I will get you cooking in no time as well as you read. The trick is you can’t leave and you have to watch. And you use a timer. Fail safe. So i’ii send you one through good reads and if it doesn’t work. I’ii give up. But I promise you will surprise yourself.
Fabi, your cooking fails are hysterical!! 😉 I wish I didn’t know how to cook then I wouldnt have to deal with stupid meal planning every day. I’m a little jealous. Does your hub cook or do you just do take out?
My stupid book slump will not go away. I’m worried the part of my brain that loves to read has broken. For over 5 years reading has been my escape & ONLY hobby and I just can’t get into it. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??? Will I be banished from the group???
Leslie M NO WAY!! We love you forever!
And you know, it happens to ALL of us. I’m in a book slump right now in fact. I hit AWESOME… and then I read 2 or 3 that or 5 that don’t keep me reading all night, ya know?
Sometimes a genre change helps shake things up. That’s what I do. Horror or Psych Thriller is what I turn to, when my “new adult” fix isn’t happening. Or sometimes, a great, profound women’s fiction.
Thank you Melinda.
Leslie, my Mom has always been the cook. Although now that she’s gotten older she doesn’t cook every single day. My ex had a few dishes he cooked well but was by no means a talented cook. We do take-out or order in occasionally. Otherwise simple meals like sandwiches, soups, pasta get us by the one meal a day we eat at home. I do alright with anything out of a can or a package with instructions.
***R. I am STILL bragging to my Mom about your cooking! Of course she wants details I can’t provide and your style and hers are worlds apart, but she’s never heard me go on and on about somebody’s cooking before. My next ‘experiment’ is going to be that monkey pull cake you made. 🙂 Everything else seemed waaayyyy above my skill set.
Leslie, I am totally emphasising with your book slump. I’ve been in one myself for a week or two. Nothing is catching my fancy and I also started wondering if I would need a long break from reading. 🙁 I’ve even been afraid to try recs because I know some of the books I’ve tried to read are excellent, even though they are not holding my attention. I don’t want to go into someone’s favorite with this yucky slump.
The one thing that seems to most always work for me is switching genres. I’m currently enjoying some historicals in audio. Then I have Dark Matter and Black Rain lined up. Hopefully after those I’ll be missing my romance so much that the next 5 will be five star. 🙂
I’ve been on a book slump too :/ I think I am going to color a bit on my new Johanna Basford book and then read A Kingdom of Dreams. I am in the mood for a good HR. Hope you are all having a great Sunday 🙂
Maybe we all can give some non reading suggestions to leave a book slump, like Anne coloring. I figure we’re all different so maybe someone’s suggestion might help.
Me, I play games, draw, random crafty thing with little dude, walk to a store to shop, and rare occasuon, watch tv.
Often it is when I catch up on TV shows and sometimes movies. Shows usually give me the story telling I’m missing by the slump.
Music.
Podcasts. Desert Island disc combines music with some great personal storytelling. I really like this one and the host is great.
Pop Culture Happy Hour is just fun and makes me laugh. All songs considered a great way to find new songs. Smart Bitches Trashy Books and Scandalicious book podcast are fun. Smart Bitches is usually interviews but also round table discussion. Scandalicious is usually round table and sometimes intervies, also usually NSFW.
With books I’ll re-read favorite sections of books. Sometimes I’ll end up reading the rest from there sometimes not.
Oh, also Logic problems or solitaire. Just using my brain in a different way.
Me too with the games/logic puzzles. But my main go to is my guitar. I think I got almost 10 hours of practice in last week since I wasn’t glued to the pages of a book like I usually am.
I can’t find Kingdom of Dreams anywhere except Amazon as an actual BOOK. Boo. I want it NOW. dang it.
Love those tattoos, Lisa. Is that a particular artist? or just a “style”?
2 that look interesting are The Passenger by Lisa Lutz & Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis.
I wanna pick tattoos too. BRB.
Bicem Sinik is a tattoo artist from Istanbul…..I love her style and Rose Hardy does amazing lace tattoo pieces. Ive really over thought my ‘proposed’ tattoo.
Michelle s: I have them in hard covers you might be able to get them from the library. There’s kingdom of dreams, I remember this one and loved it called Until You still historical romance they we’re write. In 1994. Also Once and only. There’s another called Whitney my Love. And yes even back then she wrote some racy parts into the books. But mostly it’s the sunshine and roses type. They are all really really good. It sort got me reading after 50 shades, I really haven’t found anything as good in historical. I did buy from book depository they were about $10 each and I just checked about the same price. They are about 450 pages long but you just race through it as the story is so good.
If anyone is interested in a YA dystopian, The Amber Project (The Variant Saga #1) by J.N. Chaney is free on Amazon. I haven’t read it yet but it has tons of good reviews.
I am giving heads up on a trigger with Whitney, My Love.
Thanx Fabi. Im in the mood for YA dystopian. 🙂
Did you check out Scorpion Races and Night Circus yet?
Ok, you can fall down rabbit holes looking at tattoos, lol. But since we read a lot of romance have to post the romantic quotes.

Last book you bought? The Mediterranean Slow Cooker cookbook 😉 I LOVE mediterranean food, and I love my slow cooker.
Book you’d choose for a BR? Hmmm… God Shaped Hole.
Name a favorite scene from an 80s movie? Anything with Rob Lowe in it… But I’d say when Jason comes out of the river and grabs the girl in the canoe at the end of Friday the 13th #1. LOL!
A good song to listen to on a sunny lazy Sunday? Anything fun, dance and happy-pop that’s out right now. A la “Taylor Swift” and Katy Perry and the like…

I’ve been thinking of getting my first tattoo also. Thinking of getting my kids names on my wrist. Son’s in a bold lettering and daughter’s in more of a feminine script.

The Human Family by Maya Angelou
https://allpoetry.com/Human-Family
That’s wonderful Lisa.
I do not read or know much poetry, mostly the famous one or snippets of.
I do love the i carry your heart with me, I think it’s beautiful. Also, when I first heard it it was in that movie with a sister reading it at her sister’s wedding, to her. So, I have always thought of it as more than for just romantic love.
But this one too is a favorite.
Again a very famous one, because what I know, lol.

Speaking of snippets, last winter I read this post on literary Christmas cards and loved the one with the Mary Oliver quote.
https://bookriot.com/2015/12/02/literary-holiday-card-round/
So, then went and read the poem. Which is lovely.
https://www.poetryconnection.net/poets/Mary_Oliver/17305
This is how I come across any poetry, lol. Like the Hiddleston reading of may I feel said he. Seriously, YouTube.
But I never really seek it out.
Thanks for the links to the beautiful poems. I love poetry. I’m one of those weirdos that sometimes just sits and reads a book of poetry. I know, what?? Not that many of us out there? Or are there more of us than I think? Who knows…..
What about the Auden poem said at the funeral in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral? Stop all the clocks…..
Such an awesome but sad poem, and such a sad scene in that film.
The Chocolate Temptation
The Winter Rose (well, I’ll try a sample first)
The Chocolate Temptation
First Star I See Tonight
‘Here’s Johnny’ from The Shining. (Creepiest movie ever?)
Lionel Ritchie’s ‘Hello’ (Old school, but an old fav)
Jan I put stop tbe clocks on the books at my dads funeral for my mum!! It was perfect for them….
‘The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.’
What a hearbreaker!!
Oh Jan I’m jealous winter rose is soo good. I loved it. It’s a long book though. 700 pages of paper version. There’s also the tea rose by the same author that’s the first book. The. I think it’s the wild rose.
Jennifer Donnelly is the author. I gave it to my sister inlaw to read and she could stop raving how good it was.
Bev that Emily Dickinson poem is beautiful.
Jan….we’re all romance readers….so naturally we’re romantics at heart, dont you think? Im sure a few if us read poetry through a blur of big fat romantic tears! 😉
Let’s see Bev,
Neighbor Dearest
Dirty Baller- maybe, sample didn’t grab me
Twisted Reality
Not sure
Nobody puts Baby in the corner- Dirty Dancing
Sitting on the dock of the bay (still in beach vacation mode)
Yeah Melinda but I just had a proper look and the prices of both books are very high *gnaws lip indecisively*
I’ll try a sample and see….
Anyway, my pre-order of First Star I See Tonight has auto-downloaded this morning (a nice surprise – I didn’t realise it would be here so soon) so when I finish The Chocolate Temptation I think I’ll go down the Susan Elizabeth Phillips path first. Anyone want to BR with me?
Oh god I forgot about St. Elmo’s Fire. I think I’m going to need a marathon…
Maryse…God-Shaped Hole? Ooooooooh that was a good one. It hurt (just how we like it) but it was GOOD. I think I liked her HTKARS more, but then again I read that one first so I might be a little biased. 😉
And The Pact…I clicked it at 1.99 and I’m waiting for just the right mood for that heartbreaker.
By the way…it’s Grey’s birthday today. 😀
