- War Storm (Red Queen) by Victoria Aveyard <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK! ROBYN LOVED IT!
Robyn: I forgot to tell you guys I finished War Storm, the last book in the Red Queen series. This book wrapped things up quite nicely. Victoria Aveyard has a gift for writing. Her words and story flow so easily. I love a book where I can just read, not having to stop for grammar or continuity mistakes. I got so involved with the h, Mare’s cause and all the people she pulled into it with her, especially Cal, the H. These books had everything in them that I love, except sexy times, which were only alluded to because this is a YA book. That was okay because there was so much other stuff going on that kept me enraptured. Beautifully written series, I highly recommend it!

Since that brutal revelation, she’s sworn off men, she’s gone into hiding to get away from voracious reporters, and she hasn’t let herself get close to anyone. But…a year has passed since her life fell apart. And it’s hard to be alone all the time…” But someone is watching her and wants her to pay….

The elite event planner & the teacher… “…She’s riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she’s blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start—and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation. As Margot finds her footing in a town where everybody knows not only your name, but what you had for dinner last Saturday night and what you’ll wear to church on Sunday morning, she grudgingly has to admit that there are some things Lake Sackett does better than Chicago—including the dating prospects. Elementary school principal Kyle Archer is a fellow fish-out-of-water who volunteers to show Margot the picture-postcard side of Southern living...”
Amy: I snagged First, Sweet Tea and Sympathy (’cause I love small town stories),
Stalked (Predators MC Book 4) by Jamie Begley <— LIVE!!! IT WAS A PERFECT DAY UNTIL SHE MET HIM… “…It was a perfect day … until I met Stump. I found a new friend, reached half a million followers, and was on the brink of putting my past behind me when the crazy biker accused me of stealing his dog. To make matters worse, he then blamed me for people hating on him. He did that with no help from me. I don’t blame the dog for running away. I would, too, if I belonged to him. My skills as a life coach don’t work on him. I might not be able to change the irritating Predator, but I’m not above using him to catch the one who wants me dead...”

And it only took him five minutes to regret it. Because Oaklee Ryan is insane. She’s loud, she’s demanding, and she’s dead set on getting her way. - Perfect Fix by Jason Mares
- Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor <— Tasha is into it!
Tasha: I’m not too far in Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet, but am still loving it. It’s not what I thought it would be, it’s been so long since I even read what it was about, I just basically went in blind, and it’s one of my favorite fantasy subjects! Yay! I haven’t read very many w/angels, fallen angels, demons or in this case Chimaera, but it fascinates me and I’m liking the different spin on this one. And the writing is so good too!
Butterfly Trap by TL Fisher <— LIVE!!! PSYCH-THRILLER BLURB JOLT ALERT!!!!! “…Party girl, Nikki Kraemer is terrified when she wakes up tied to a dirty mattress in a basement that bleeds and breathes death. Her reality grows more terrifying as she battles her addiction at the mercy of her deadly captor. This is no ordinary day. Issac Burns has a dangerous secret that has eaten away his moral integrity for ten years. This is the day he will confront his inner demon . . . but Nikki is no ordinary woman…”
- Dark Queen (Jane Yellowrock) by Faith Hunter <— Tessa’s BEST OF MAY books!
Tessa: Best book of the month is between a few, but as much as I adore The Morell series, I also read Dark Queen by Faith Hunter. Seriously, that book was THE BEST of the series to date. It wasn’t just the culmination of all the storylines ending, but seriously, THE EMOTIONS. I ugly cried. Just out and out ugly cried. I get teary-eyed, but ugly cry, not normal for me. This one did it. *grins* One last book and the series is done. I’ll miss it.
Castaways by Tara Brown <— LIVE!! TARA BROWN’S LATEST & IT SOUNDS LIKE A THRILLER! Celebrities are shipwrecked on a deserted island… “…When the luxury yachting trip hits rough seas, Lizzie isn’t prepared for what happens next, a sunken ship and someone else’s boyfriend rescuing her. Waking up on the sunny, deserted island seems like a nightmare at first. Until the ten sexy celebrities decide to make the best of it. Sunbathing and eating fresh fruit off each other’s bodies is not the worst way to spend a week. There are no paparazzi and the weather is fine. But the party only lasts so long. Soon enough the reality of being shipwrecked hits them and the group begins to worry...”
- Lessons In Corruption (The Fallen Men Series Book 1) by Giana Darling <— FORBIDDEN LOVE BIKER BOOK ALERT! Nay’s favorite for May:
Nay: My favorite book for May was definitely Lessons In Corruption (The Fallen Men Series Book 1), the first book in Giana Darling’s biker series….It’s a great forbidden, teacher/student storyline with a very mature 18 y.o. male student whose family is involved in an MC. The alpha writing reminds me of KA A LOT and in a great way (usually when I get ‘like KA’ recs, they don’t much remind me of KA.)
…Usually when I read that about a book, I don’t get the KA vibe at all, but I definitely do with these! Although I don’t want to take anything away from Giana Darling–she’s a great writer in her own right and her writing is definitely different. …At this point, I’m hoping she’ll write a book about every member of the Fallen MC!
MichelleS: NAY!! OMG! That was the series I was telling you about that reminded me of KA. I had it wrong. … So glad you posted this.
The FBucket List (Romance and Ruin Book 1) by Lena Fox <— LIVE!! SHE’S DYING… and she has a bucket list. “…Blake understands the fragile nature of life. He hides from his guilt by indulging in flings and one-night-stands. When Georgina falls into his lap – along with her list and her insistence on no commitments – he thinks he’s hit the jackpot. He swore not to fall for her, but he would, hard, and it could bring back past secrets that will destroy him…”
- Matchmaking for Beginners: A Novel by Maddie Dawson <— LIVE!! HER BLISSFUL LIFE IS CHANGING… “...When her marriage ends after two miserable weeks, Marnie is understandably shocked. She’s even more astonished to find that she’s inherited Blix’s Brooklyn brownstone along with all of Blix’s unfinished “projects”: the heartbroken, oddball friends and neighbors running from happiness. Marnie doesn’t believe she’s anything special, but Blix somehow knew she was the perfect person to follow in her matchmaker footsteps. And Blix was also right about some things Marnie must learn the hard way: love is hard to recognize, and the ones who push love away often are the ones who need it most…”
Cheat Codes (Dawson Family Series Book 1) by Emily Goodwin <— LIVE!! BEST FRIEND’S LITTLE SISTER & YIKES!!!! “…Everything about them was wrong, the kind of wrong that felt so right. But none of it mattered. Not the terrible timing. And definitely not the mess it would create if Archer made a move on his best friend’s baby sister. It was supposed to be one night, but one night is all it takes to make everything more complicated, and they only have nine short months to sort it all out...”

GENT: An Enemies to Lovers Romance by Harloe Rae <— JUST WENT LIVE & IT’S SUPER-BARGAIN PRICED! Oooooh he like a jaded-jerk!!! I especially love that last line. I’m delightfully intrigued! TOTAL BLURB JOLT FOR SURE, and I think we’re gonna have to work for it. “…She hovers in my space, batting her lashes and smiling shyly. The glimmer in her sapphire eyes is a promise of peace. But I’m not falling for it. And Raven doesn’t take the hint. What starts as a battle of wills, explodes into a turf war. She stands directly in my path everywhere I turn. No matter how hard I shove, she won’t budge. Raven seems dead set on driving me insane. But I was here first. And I’m not going down easy. After all, no one ever taught me how to treat a lady...”

Ahhhhhhh donuts. And coffffeeeeeeeeeee…. 😛
Ugh….
Cooking Channel is VERY hard on me right now.
The Barefoot Contessa is making pasta… but of course she is. And she’s giving me needs.
LOL Lisa. Clever. 😉
Good morning! Happy Friday!!!
Theme novellas must be the new craze. This donut series is like The Cocktail Girls series I posted about last night, except they’re all being released on different days. It’s a pretty neat way to try some new authors.
Ohhh, I just got it! I forgot today was National Donut Day! Duh! How smart of these authors!
I am curious about the KA type one, because of Nay and MichelleS.
Otherwise I’m waiting to read The Kiss Quotient *fingers crossed* and to watch What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?. *fingers and toes crossed*
I am hoping they deliver some romcom fun.
bev–make sure you check the reviews, especially on the 2nd one. I’m not sure how ‘taboo’ you like your bikers.
Lol. Ok I read the AB Reddit thread. Someone came up with a Talk Me Into/ Out of It type post for skincare.
Whoever did….thank you! I’m stealing it and the format.
It’s Name the product and your skin type and people talk you into or out of it. It’s awesome.
So….
Book: Lessons in Corruption byGiana Darling
Book type: I like strong characterization and well written dialogue. Love if the H&h have good chem and snappy banter. Love a slow burn , but occasionally go back to my love of an Insta. Tropes I love: MoC, bad boy/good girl, road trips. Love a good sense of time and place.
So talk me into or out of Lessons in Corruption.
Sinners in Vegas! YES! *does happy dance* And yes, I”m already reading it, though I’m on chapter 2. Already things are going south for the poor girl. Yeah!
Bev – my current read might be what you’re looking for! The Hardest Fall…
like strong characterization and well written dialogue. Love if the H&h have good chem and snappy banter. – super snappy banter for sure
Love a slow burn , but occasionally go back to my love of an Insta. – a combination of both here. Attraction, but no action, you know?
Tropes I love: MoC, bad boy/good girl, road trips. Love a good sense of time and place. – this one is good girl-nerdy-shy & football hero. In college.
It’s the banter between the two that I’m enjoying. Hilarious. She’s got word vomit syndrome.
Bev, I dont read MC romances (too “gritty” for me) but I read some reviews for Lessons in Corruption and its sounds deliciously forbidden. I say, go for it!
Ok Tessa, you convinced me to finally read the Jane Yellowrock series. I bought the first book and its up next. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m excited for a new series with lots of books!
I’m also almost finished with Summer Skin. It’s ok. I don’t know if it’s because the setting is in Australia and the different slang they use or just the different lifestyle, the book is good, keeping my interest, but kinda of Ho-hum. I think I need more action or excitement.
Wait! I’m not talking about Lessons in Corruption. It IS deliciously forbidden if you like young man/a bit older woman and teacher/student (that’s all in the blurb). I’m talking about the 2nd book.
If you were one of the people who was disturbed by the Dani/Ryodan dynamic in Iced, I’m pretty sure may not want to read the 2nd book. Or you should at least read some of the 1-star reviews where people mention why the age thing bothered them. (I’m no prude and I’m the last person to expect a biker book to be tame, but I’ve had to overlook a couple of things the hero says, telling myself that the writer may not have stated what she actually wanted to convey in the best possible way.)
That being said, I’m still LOVING it, because I love taboo and I’m thinking about a Zeus in *my* world! lol
bev, I’m back to pushing Road-Tripped. Read it a month and a half ago and still thinking about it and trying to find another like it. Did you read it yet? I think you mentioned getting it. Has the slow burn, snappy banter, well-written dialogue and road trip! 4 of your book types. Great summer read and you can finish it in a day, or day and a half. Also anxiously awaiting The Kiss Quotient!
Nay – I must be warped. Loved Dani-Ryodan, and Sheehan’s Undeniable… and loved book two in Fallen Men series. Not in real life. No way. But I like forbidden themes, so it was all good for me.
Me too, Michelle!!! I feel the exact same way.
I loved Dani-Ryodan too! I just saw what he said. She’s going to be incredible when she grows up. I’m somewhat curious about that book and seeing the “daddy” thing before reading it helps. *shrugs* We’ll see.
I like Dani and Ryodan too. Loved Iced and still haven’t forgiven KMM for what could of been.
However, wasn’t too fond of Undeniable. I just thought the heroine was tstl. And part of that was because she chose that hero.
Ok, so read the first One?
MichelleS, I’ll look that one up.
marina, I think it is the humor in that book that has me hesitant. I dnf’d the first Max Monroe book and Lingus and have the idea the humor is similar?
But I feel you.
I do.
I too try hard to get my books or shows appreciated by others.
Some may say too hard.
But No I my friend. Not I.
You keep pushing on.
You let Maryse know the only way to get to Folsom is on a Road trip.
“You let Maryse know the only way to get to Folsom is on a Road trip.”
*tries to decipher the complex bev code*
*scrolls back through more comments for clues…*
Happy Friday!! Still reading the Hating Game. R., hope your friend is right and it gets awesome. *sigh*
Me too Cheryl because I’d already bought the paperback and just got the ebook since it was on sale!
Maryse I am soooo mad at you because you made me read THE IDEA OF YOU because of your good review. I am not a crier but actually sobbed through the last chapters. Then wasn’t able to read anything for 2 days which was a record for me. I will say way too much art information. I wasn’t that interested.
A week or so ago I read RIDE and it was amazing. Apparently not so big on art but am on snow boarding. Would recommend this one too.
Eeeeeeep!!!
*sidles up to JulieO for a snuggle*
Friends? 🙂
So I’m trying Lessons in Corruption and I hit the part where her new friends don’t hang out with someone because she’s ugly. Umm….no. I don’t even know what to do with That? Or what that says about the heroine if she finds it funny and reasonable.
bev you’re so funny, love your book/tv show directions. I totally get what you mean. with humor you either like it or you aren’t feeling it. I’m not into crude humor or toilet humor and kind of particular about what I find funny. Something about this book I just completely loved. So much. Anyways I think I tried 5-6 books last night trying to find something to read but couldn’t get into any. Decided to try Lessons of Corruption and it totally sucked me in! I haven’t read or gotten into an MC book in a long time. Excited to have found something. Thanks!!!! Love and depend on this blog! xo
Bev – try The Hardest Fall. It’s taking me days to read, because I have house guests, but I’m really liking it. It has some extra plot elements that I wasn’t expecting.
“You can’t be this clueless,” I repeated in a whisper against her ear, catching the slight tremble in her body.
I’m still going to give LC a chance.
Is that one by the author of Jason Thorn?
Poor Maryse and my complex gibberish.
I was commiserating with marina.
I feel like, without knowing her, that she can appreciate Park Seo-Joon and carbs.
https://goo.gl/images/qxVF35
Seriously, one of you should roll the dice with me and try and watch Secretary Kim when it comes out.
*jealous of the carb friends*
This is like when authors write songs.
Songs and poetry are different than stories. King is not a good poet, lol.
Finally finished The Hating Game. The first about 75% was about as exciting as watching paint dry. It was definitely a slow-burn and not enough happened except for them playing their “games and the h over thinking everything. It did pick up towards the end and I even laughed out loud a couple times. Too bad most of it wasn’t like the last part.
Now to decide on what’s next…
It’s funny Bc I think it was the opposite for me, Cheryl. I loved the book, but I wanted more of that banter from the first half.
Just finished watching Love, Simon. It was a great movie!! I get ridiculously excited over good movies anymore Bc I feel like there are so few nowadays. I even almost teared up at the end. 😉
I liked the book as a whole, but enjoyed the first half more too.
Tasha….um…did you read the book first?
bev you are too funny! still enjoying LC however there was a reference to Picasso which was incorrect but I’m looking past it. I’m supposed to be reading Little Fires Everywhere, which I’m sure I’ll love, for book club but trying to squeeze some others in before.
I have the book…that counts, right? And I read some of it and I’m not sure what happened, but I never finished.
Where is everybody?
Gotten so so quiet.
I’m quiet ’cause I’m reading. Getting ready to review Folsom… good read – two great authors – but the premise, in itself, has more strength and excitement than the actual execution for me. I didn’t feel it as much as I wanted to, and as steamy as it is (it goes there), it has a more “YA fantasy/dystopian” feel in the way the heroine’s POV is told.
have started The Wife Between Us, <--- and I want to devour it. It has me.
In munchkin land. They haven’t come back yet because they were so surprised it existed. Also, last night, they found the yellow brick road and decided to go tour the area. Sadly, they came across a scarecrow and became so frightened, they ran off into a field of poppies. They’ll probably come back once they awaken.
I went to the grocery, 1st time w/baby. I felt like a zombie, but I did good! I didn’t forget much, there were no meltdowns, and I made it out quickly even though it felt like I was going super slow. And then I put half away and fed the baby. Now he’s sleeping and I’m talking myself into getting up and eating/washing bottles/doing and folding laundry. I should also sweep. Someone’s coming to pick up my old couch in a couple hours and I need to move my vehicle. I’ll have to pack the diaper bag for supper @ my Mom’s. He needs a bath tonight and I’ll have to figure out how I’m putting the toddler down to sleep tonight. That’s my day in a nutshell. How about you? Lol
I’m recovering from a sunburn. My face and shoulders still have that sting of pain after they got burnt yesterday. Every year, no matter how much sunscreen, it happens.
Lol. So they are all on opium. Would explain why they are so quiet.
I’m reading The Hardest Fall and it is cute, but the writing is a little jerky.
Tasha
If I knew where you lived I’d come over and give you a hand. I remember those days. Everyone always said to sleep when the baby sleeps. Like that works!!!
Always too much to do. But know that I am sending you some good mojo.
Tasha I am tired just reading your day!! Zombie is the right way to describe that time. *hugs*
Maryse, I totally agree w u regarding Folsom. Wife Between Us I’ve been reading in bits over months, not sure why. I’m at 70% then moved to something else. I might be burnt out on this type of book. Kind of finding it harder these days to find books which really captivate my attention. Not sure what is happening. But I’m still reading a lot. ???
I finished a book this weekend so up to 12 books read. Lol and Yay!
Starting to feel like my reading self again. Slowly, but getting there. If this is the end of the slump I will never ever complain about little slumps again.
Just waiting for The Kiss Quotient and hope it lives up to the buzz.
me too!
