<— Happy Friday and happy reading weekend!!! Look what just went LIVE today… and that premise has me giggling. :D

I’m finishing up and reviewing Riven tonight. So far it’s so good, and I’m delightfully nervous, ’cause of some of my book-buddies reactions – eeeep!! I still have NO clue where this is going and I’m almost done. And then I get to choose a new one for the weekend!! I’m still dying to jump into “Something in the Way” so I think that just might be my next.

I might also try and finish that audiobook I started (I’m struggling ’cause of the narration – I think I’m definitely a two-voice person) but I’m almost done and I DO want to know how this one ends too.

And… it looks like this week was an AWESOME reading week, ’cause you guys sure found a ton of awesome books that you loved. In fact:

Take a look at what we found for the weekend!! :D

  • The Knocked Up Plan <— by Lauren Blakely <— LIVE!!! LAUREN BLAKELY ALERT!!! TEE HEE!!! She’s not interested in a relationship. She just wants a baby, and her co-worker is the perfect target! “This single gal has had enough of the games, the BS and the endless chase. I know what I want most, and it’s not true love. It’s a bun in the oven, and I’m not afraid to hit up my sex-on-a-stick co-worker to do the job. Ryder is gorgeous, witty and charming — and he’s also a notorious commitment-phobe. That makes him the perfect candidate to make a deposit in the bank of me...”
  • Love Sex Music by Michelle A. Valentine <— LIVE!! ROCK STAR ALERT!!! A new one from Michelle A Valentine and look at this gorgeous cover! “Life has been an uphill battle for Aundrea Newton, so when a sexy, tattooed stranger hand delivers her dream of a music career, she’s skeptical. Nothing ever comes easy, and she knows Laz has the power to crush both her career and her heart with his undeniable sex appeal and charismatic swagger. When the line between mentor and student blurs, both begin to question what’s more important...”
  • Wrecked by Jeannine Colette <— HOT COP ARRESTS THE PART GIRL & THEY HATE EACH OTHER!! Yep… just released a couple of days ago and the blurb has me!!! it’s back on the list ’cause:
Brooke: I read this today and loved it!
  • Reliving Fate by Natasha Preston <— LIVE!! SHE ENDS UP IN THE WRONG SIDE OF TOWN ALERT!!!…she sets out on a mission to find her sister’s killer, but it leads her to the wrong side of town. And right into the path of Rocco, a loner, a bad boy, who is determined to keep her away. After all, you protect your own, and Bella certainly doesn’t belong with the likes of him…”
  • BFF’ed by Kate Aster <— LIVE!! HER OFF LIMITS BAD BOY BEST FRIEND ALERT!! “...Wrap up that eight-pack with Navy khakis and top it off with a shiny SEAL Trident, the kind that makes the girls swoon. That’s Mason. My best friend. For me, he’s off limits. Now that I’ve finished college, I need to focus on my writing career. And without his help, I don’t stand a chance. But I need something from him. Something only he can give me...”
  • Crave Me: The Good Ol’ Boys by M. Robinson <— HE WAS ALWAYS ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN… until he met HER. “Always on the other side of the fence. Always looking in. Always wishing you were someone you couldn’t be. Until one day you meet her. The one.  She was my high, but she was also… My demise.” Lindsee recommends this one!
Lindsee: Have you read Crave Me by M. Robinson? Its one of my favorites this year. Its a part of a series but Crave Me was my absolute favorite
  • The Night Mark: A Novel by Tiffany Reisz <—TIFFANY REISZ ALERT!! TWO AWESOME CONNECTED BOOKS but different… and Sally recommends it BIG time! GAH!!! I have The Bourbon Thief, too. Another one of those “epic reads” for the top of my main EPIC READS TBR list!
Sally: Maryse, I have to tell you about a book I recently finished that was so refreshingly different! TIME TRAVEL!!! I have been looking for a book like this for a while. I LOVED this book. Wonderfully written, engrossing, storytelling at its finest! You know what I loved most? That the author VERY cleverly connected her book The Bourbon Thief and yet they are two very different SEPARATE reads. What a delight for those that read The Bourbon Thief (which I loved as well), I absolutely felt like I knew a secret that others did not thereby bonding me even more to the characters and the story. BRILLIANT I tell ya! That being said you do NOT have to read The Bourbon Thief to love this book it was just a little extra! treat.
  • Redemption by Stephie Walls <— LIVE!!! SOUNDS SUPER-EMOTIONALLY ANGSTY ALERT!! “One decision. One horrific mistake. One lifetime of hell. Everything I got was justified, and all I lost warranted. No matter where I went, the hell of my past followed. There was no forgiveness, no reparation—I would spend the rest of my days trapped in purgatory. His pain was mine...”

Julie o: Am lovin Tycoon!

Leslie: The Tycoon cover makes me want to read it ….maybe I need to add that one too!!

Ashley: Tycoon by Katy Evans was SO good!!!

Fabi: I am in book fog hell. I haven’t been able to sink into a new story since finishing Carry the Ocean. I just keep reading reviews and thinking about the characters. The reviews on Amazon are pretty amazing. I think the only thing that held this book back from burning up the best sellers lists is that’s it’s marketed as m/m romance. Like I said in my review, I am a better person after finishing this book than I was before I read it. How do I pick a “next” after that?!

Lauren: I just finished Casen by Amy Marie (on today’s list) & really loved it. It’s a HS bully/victim story set 10yrs after graduation…..& she is SO not over what those guys did to her in HS. Beware… It IS a sequel so you’ll have to read book 1 first.Tessa: Holy crap Lauren. That first book sounds insane. I glazed over it when I saw second, but they were bullies….CATNIP! I’ve never watched Waterboy.

Jean: As soon add I saw Lauren mention bully/victim, I thought TESSA!!!

Jan: MARYSE! MARYSE! Shout this out to everyone – the first of RK Lilley’s Tristan and Danika series, ‘Bad Things’…
  • The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis <— ONE OF MY LATEST ABSOLUTE FAVORITES & some of my book friends jumped in and LOVED it too!! AMY!!! LOOOK!!!!! We have great book taste. ;) Er… YOU do. :D !!! P.S. Here’s my review in case you missed it.

Sally: Hey Maryse I JUST finished The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis and I just wanted to say you were SO RIGHT! It was excellent! It’s been such a LONG time since I read a YA and a much longer since I read one worthy of 5 Stars. It was so well written with an easy flow and stayed true to its characters. All these things are HUGE for me. Discussing it with my girls Lori and Tracie it seemed very reminiscent of S. Walden books Going Under and Interim which are STILL two of my favorite YA’s from a while back. It gave me the same FEELS and that says a lot! So THANK YOU my dear for finding us this GREAT one!

Lori: I’m still reading but loving so far

Tracie: Yesssss! Maryse you nailed this one girl. I devoured this one and so did Britton.

Britton: Yes it was brilliant. Loved it all. Her characters did stay true to the story and what a story it was.

Meghan: Seriously?! Do I need to dig into this one next? I NEED a good book.

Sally: YES! Meghan RUN!!

Britton: Yes run and read it.

Meghan: okay. I’m digging in tonight!

Sally: let me know what you think. So I can refrain from stalking you. …Ahhhhh that feeling you get when you’re book besties actually love the same book as you

Maryse: YAYAYYAYAYAY!!! This one was amazing, and I’m so glad you guys loved it too. *phew* Now I want to backtrack and see what else she’s written.

  • Thursday Afternoon by Beth Rinyu <— LIVE!!! SHE’S AN ESCORT & TWO STRANGERS ENTER HER LIFE… one becomes her very best friend…. and… “Then there’s him. He’s my Thursday afternoon client. Just like all the others: handsome, rich and charming…yet so very different. Trying to overcome a painful past, he seeks out my services as a refuge, only to find that we’re opening our hearts to each other in ways that neither of us could’ve imagined. I could never fall in love with someone like him…until I did…
  • Running Hot (Hell Ryders MC Book 2) by J.L. Sheppard <— LIVE!! THE RICH GIRL & THE BIKER BOOK ALERT!Tiffany Hamilton has never gotten over the bad boy with the sapphire eyes and midnight hair, the boy who once saved her. She wants him—a touch, a taste—but he’s never wanted anything to do with her. It’s past time to move on. When the sexy biker barges back into her life, saving her yet again and making demands, he makes it impossible to say no...”
  • Whispers and the Roars by K. Webster <— DARK READ ALERT!!!! MichelleS just read this one!
MichelleS: I finished Whispers & Roars, Lisa’s pick for me. What a doozy that was! Glad I went in totally blind.
  • Lip Locks & Blocked Shots: A Slapshot Novel (Slapshot Series Book 3) by Heather C. Myers <— LIVE!! HOCKEY STAR ALERT!! SHE’S TRYING TO REMAIN PROFESSIONAL…She’s drawn to him like a moth to a flame but dating him isn’t allowed – no matter how badly her sister, Katella, tells her otherwise. Seraphina has been in love with him for a year and that isn’t going to change any time soon…”
  • The Bed and Breakfast on the Beach: The perfect summer beach read of 2017 by Kat French <— LIVE!!! BEST FRIEND TRIP BUY A BED & BREAKFAST IN GREECE!!! “...when Winnie meets Jesse, their brooding neighbour, she finds that Greece is full of its own complications – not least how attractive he is… Meanwhile, Frankie and Stella are discovering that Villa Valentina has its own secrets – starting with the large supply of gin in the cellar and the arrival of a famous rock band…
  • My Song for You: A Pushing Limits Novel by by Stina Lindenblatt <— ROCK STAR MEETS A BOY HE THINKS IS HIS SON ALERT!! Young and headed for rock-stardom, his girlfriend becomes pregnant but “gets rid of it” and he moves on into fame… but years later… “after Callie bumps into Jared while she’s grocery shopping with four-year-old Logan, there’s a spark that wasn’t there before. Jared quickly realizes that her deaf “son” is the same age his own child would have been. When Jared demands to know more about Logan, Callie panics…” (and it’s super-bargain priced today!)

For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>

  • AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <— This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans all of your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!
  1. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis <— I’m hearing this awesome book is also great as an audiobook!
Anna: I read this one a few months back. Went in blind except for a few friends strongly encouraging me to read it, and absolutely loved it. I felt like it addressed some important topics in interesting ways in addition to being a great read. I also recommend the audiobook version which is really well narrated by multiple narrators for those of you who enjoy listening to your books.
  • Tycoon by Katy Evans <— RECENT RELEASE IS BACK ON THE LIST ‘CAUSE EVERYONE IS LOVING IT!!! And they are loving the audiobook too!

Ashley: Tycoon by Katy Evans was SO good!!! I listened to it today and thoroughly enjoyed it. It kind of reminded me of her book Manwhore, but still different, so if you liked that one you’ll definitely like this one. (Only this one doesn’t end with a cliffhanger… I was very upset when that happened)

*sticks out tongue at Grey*

Charity June 23, 2017 at 8:33 AM

Just finished Riven and OMG what an amazing completely shocking ending! Balled like a baby !

Maryse June 23, 2017 at 9:35 AM

YAY!!! Or eeeeeeep!!!!! I can’t wait to get back to it!!!!!

Jessica Peterson June 23, 2017 at 12:24 PM

THE KNOCKED UP PLAN is really putting me in the mood for some great pregnancy romances! I’m not the biggest fan of the “secret baby” trope, but man do I love a “pregnancy of convenience” story, or even an accidental pregnancy story (NINE MONTHS was one of my favorite movies of the nineties!). Hope to have some time to read it this weekend.

bev June 23, 2017 at 1:17 PM

Going to be over 100 today-all weekend. They are saying 102 to possibly 106 over the next 3 days?
How about you all?

Just looks like some fun links. Off to browse the tatoo ons. The new Kens??

Leslie M June 23, 2017 at 6:41 PM

The new Kens are hilarious. Hey, at least Barbie has options. ;)

bev June 23, 2017 at 6:50 PM

After a couple false starts I was a day away and poisoned myself.

*throws glitters AT Ela* *giggle*

Sorry, today was graduation day for my students… So always a busy one. But yay, summer break!

Tessa June 23, 2017 at 9:42 PM

Hehehe That was fun Bev. You get attacked by a brown bear and die.

bev June 23, 2017 at 10:48 PM

I actually made it….after dying 3 times, lol. :)

Jennifer June 23, 2017 at 11:20 PM

I’m listening to the audio version of The Female of the Species and it’s awesome. Three different voices for P.K., Jack, and Alex. I highly recommend it.

Jen C June 24, 2017 at 1:01 AM

Aah, so exited to see Casen is finally out! I read Seven last year and LOVED it. I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for Casen for what feels like forever lol.

bev June 24, 2017 at 9:50 AM

Maybe I should not leave well loved books sitting on my three for so long.
I think it just builds the expectations too high.
I was sure I’d love Fearless and Rush.
I’m not going to DNF Rush (I think) but not living up to the hype I built up in my head.
Does anyone know if Rush is her first book?
I have 2 more of her books and wondering if a difference in later works?

Tessa June 24, 2017 at 2:16 PM

Kalayna Price has a book coming out on 4th of July. Grave

Tessa June 24, 2017 at 2:16 PM

Kalayna Price has a book coming out on 4th of July. Grave Ransom. I just got an email for it. :)

bev June 24, 2017 at 3:13 PM

Where oh where can my book friendso be?

Tessa June 24, 2017 at 5:09 PM

I was at the library.

Maryse June 24, 2017 at 5:11 PM

Here I am!!! :D

bev June 24, 2017 at 7:01 PM

2 book friends. My favorite 2.

Maryse June 24, 2017 at 7:59 PM

LOL!!!!! *snuggles bev even though she hates it. Why? ’cause we’re book friends!!*

Leslie M June 24, 2017 at 8:18 PM

I am here! Had lots of family time today. We just watched original Star Wars as my son has never seen it. Total renewed crush on Han Solo.

Bev, sorry you are not loving Rush. I really liked that one. I love a grumpy hero who redeems himself.

bev June 24, 2017 at 8:27 PM

Leslie distracted Maryse with a sparkly book. Quick man.

bev June 24, 2017 at 8:34 PM

Leslie, it is just happening too fast. I feel like there was NO getting-to-know-you phase. And that’s just my favorite part. Also it seems like she was able to help him too quickly without really knowing how to be a caretaker. But I will finish it.
It makes me wonder if I do put too much pressure on these books that I keep in my to be pile too long. Has me worried about the Epic books I could have in my Library.

Anna June 24, 2017 at 9:47 PM

I finished Make Me Stay!! It was so so good. I’ve been on a reading spree of great books. I thought make Me stay would follow Nick/Kate’s story from Pull Me Close, but it doesn’t. And it took me a bit to know exactly where it she was going with it, but once she did…whoa! so good. Get your tissues!

Jan June 24, 2017 at 9:51 PM

? I recommended Tristan and Danika? WTH? But I haven’t read it. Oh, it’s another Jan LOL. Hey other Jan. Nice to meet you!

Jan June 24, 2017 at 9:53 PM

bev I dnf’ed Rush……… I just, idk, got bored? The characters didn’t reel me in, somehow. OK, OK, enough with the peanuts already.

bev June 24, 2017 at 10:22 PM

Now I don’t feel so bad.

Leslie M June 25, 2017 at 7:41 AM

Bev and Jan, I understand how we all interpret books differently. If you don’t believe the characters connection or get bored, it’s a book fail. I personally loved Rush, but I totally felt characters and it sucked me in. If I had a nickel for every “popular” book I disliked, I’d be rich.

I do think we put too much pressure on ourselves. I want to love Kristen Ashley so bad and it just isnt happening.

Leslie M June 25, 2017 at 7:43 AM

Bev, what other popular books are on your TBR?

bev June 25, 2017 at 8:47 AM

Oh gosh. I’d have to combine through kindle and nook to see what I have.
I started thinking of what I had when Maryse posted the confession about epic book list. I have books that I know where popular with reader’s here, The Opportunist, but then books that are say popular with HR readers like, My Dearest Enemy. Then books by authors I’ve loved before and books that I had to have based on a review or it was on best of list.
I hope that most are gems.

But you know I have authors books I read that are good for me but I don’t think they are 5 star out of this world amazing. I just like them for whatever reason, usually comfort reading.

bev June 25, 2017 at 8:48 AM

Gah , I wish we could edit.

D.G. June 25, 2017 at 12:33 PM

Ughhh! My book collections on my kindle is wiped!!! Gone! Still have the books in the cloud but geez, it was nice having them sorted. Anybody else have this happen???

bev June 25, 2017 at 1:36 PM

DO, on my nook. Scared me. Occasionally when I turn my kindle on it will show empty then the books appear.

bev June 25, 2017 at 1:51 PM

All the ladybirds have flown away.

Three things:
1. Just bought a ton of healthy food. :/
2. I love summer fruit. Cherries, blackberries, peaches, melon, etc. :)
3. I joined another challenge and am actually excited to focus mostly on my tbr this summer.

Tessa June 25, 2017 at 1:58 PM

DG, check your settings on the manage content on Amazon. I had that happen, and when I went there, it was fine. I think I restarted it or something like that? I’m sorry I don’t remember what I did, but I remember it was easy to fix.

3 things:
1. We have a birthday party to attend at the park for a neighbor.
2. We have a baby shower to attend at the park for family’s family.
3. They both start at 1pm. O.O

bev June 25, 2017 at 2:20 PM

You’ve got this Tessa. Just think of Hermione.

Now go kick but at all the games.

Leslie M June 25, 2017 at 3:59 PM

Three things:

1. I too also bought a ton of healthy food. Too bad I eat a ton of unhealthy stuff along with it.

2. I got a spiralizer and I am making zucchini & carrot noodles with supper.

3. Sitting outside in my yard pondering what to read next. Not in mood for all ones I have already started.

Jan June 25, 2017 at 7:19 PM

LOL to your #1, Leslie. Your #2 sounds fun. I’ve seen those advertised and wondered how well they work. As for your #3, only you can decide…… ;) But I do sympathise. I seem to have quite a few books I’m part way through then I’ve jumped ship for something shinier. I can’t seem to stop myself from reading lots and lots of HRs at the moment. Does anyone else have these fads where you read a whole lot of books from a genre? I’m right in the middle of one right now. Hi. I’m Jan, and I’m a HR addict.

Three things?

1. It’s a cold midwinter morning here and the fog is still hanging around mid-morning. I had to give in and put the washing in the dryer – pointless hanging it outside today…….

2. One of my sons is home from uni (university) for his mid-year break. It’s nice to have him home :)

3. I’m about to make a coffee and I’m having my new craze with it – chocolate pikelets (like mini-pancakes). I toast them and have them with butter. Superyum! I can just buy them at the supermarket here.

*goes to make coffee and toasted chocolate pikelets*

bev June 25, 2017 at 9:50 PM

Why do I look at new books when I’m already reading books that I like?

Maryse June 25, 2017 at 9:57 PM

Three things:

1.) I’m sleepy…
2.) I am craving spaghetti and meat sauce (and I mean seriously thick and meaty), and I can’t tell if I’m more hungry or more sleepy?
3.) My dog is snoring next to my head and it’s making me even sleepier.

P.S. I’m hungry.

Tessa June 25, 2017 at 10:32 PM

lol You are more hungry. :) I’m tired. It’s a good tired, but tired.

Bev, because we want MORE. I do that all the time. I’ll go looking even though I’m reading a good book.

bev June 25, 2017 at 10:36 PM

Go to sleep Maryse and dream of books.

I miss Amy she totally would of found something dirty in that comment.

Tessa, I’m trying my hardest to resist the more. So far my resistance is so-so.

Leslie M June 26, 2017 at 5:22 AM

Mmm, I want a choc pikelet. Don’t even know what it is, but yum. Maybe some spaghetti & meat sauce too.

I am a total book hoarder, and I love looking for new books. Sometimes looking for books or organizing book lists is more fun than the actual reading! *gasp*

I decided to read Mother Fluffer by Max Monroe. A quick, light, funny novella. Sometimes I am just not in mood to meet new characters.

J.L. Sheppard June 26, 2017 at 7:24 AM

Thanks for mentioning Running Hot. The first in the series, Running Wild, is on sale for 99 cents!

Young June 26, 2017 at 9:46 AM

Jan, I’m just like you. I’ve been binge reading HRs for weeks now. The one I just finished was ‘Mad for a Plaid’ by Karen Hawkins and I really enjoyed it! Now I’ve just started another HR ‘An offer from a Gentleman’ (another Brigerton) by Julia Quinn and am liking it so far. I really like to start the new book by Patricia Briggs but can’t seem to stop reading HRs! Do you have good HRs to recommend? 

bev June 26, 2017 at 1:52 PM

Jan, I do that. I’ve gone through big HR, PNR, UF, Mystery, CR, NASCAR, and YA phases. It can be really fun. At least until you feel like you have tapped the well dry.

Jan June 26, 2017 at 6:44 PM

GTK bev. I presumed others do similar. I guess I’ll get sick of HRs before too long and delve into something else.

Young, nice to hear from you. Mad For Plaid – the title made me laugh. I haven’t read the Bridgertons yet, but the series is on my tbr. Are you a member of Good Reads? I’m Jan130 on there if you want to send me a friend request, then you can look at my list of HRs I’ve read – I’ve reviewed quite a few of the ones I’ve read.

A decent HR I just read was The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase. I’m also reading the Maiden Lane series (Elizabeth Hoyt). A fav HR I would recommend is Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh.

Amy June 27, 2017 at 12:39 AM

GAH! I worked all weekend (gotta love people calling in at the last minute) and then today as well, and I have missed you all soooo much!! I want a solid two-hour block of nothingness so I can go through the last few posts and catch up and comment. At least, I am assuming there are more posts after this one where everyone has been hanging out… Adulting just isn’t all that fun sometimes. :? And I’m still working on Riven (and hooked on it, by the way) so I’m avoiding Maryse’s review until I *am* done.

“We have great book taste. ;) Er… YOU do. :D !!!” <——- Woman! BOTH of the Marmy twins have great book taste!! Two out of two Marmies agree on that. *giggle*
