<— FIRST… SUPER-SALE on this one and it’s one of my 2014 FAVORITES!! MUST READ!
PLUS!! BREAKING NEWS UPDATE (Saturday Jan 3rd 2015)! Two more SUPER-SALE books that rocked!
- You: A Novel by Caroline Kepnes —-> CREEPY DARK READ ALERT!!! (my review)
- Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover <— Pure Colleen Hoover awesomeness!!!! (my review)
And… today, the list is a little extra special. I’m pulling many of these books right out of the 2014 lists from many of our own fellow readers. Tons of awesome lists in the comments section of my own TOP 2014 Favorite Books List, so I couldn’t help but highlight ’em here today! Tried and true and considering most of these are TOP 2014 books, I think we can’t go wrong with any of ’em.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Also, while these bargain finds and new releases “look” great (and/or have awesome reviews and recommendations), unless I have my own personal review link next to it, I likely haven’t read it myself… I just found it and wanted to share it in case it’s awesome. So if you read it, let me know if it’s awesome. LOL!
NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order.
Today’s latest reader recommendations and bargain ebook finds:
- Forever, Interrupted: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid <— This one made my TOP 2014 list (in the top 10 section) and it’s on super-sale today!!!!!! *happy dance* READ IT READ IT READ IT!!! And read my review. 😉 Sadie LOVES this author too: “Taylor Jenkins Reid owned my list!”
Fallen Fourth Down (Fallen Crest Series, Book 4) by Tijan <— Tessa LOVED this one saying: “Fallen Fourth Down (of course, right?)” and Paula agrees: “anything by Tijan would be up there at the top.” and Amy, too. She made fun of me!! “…of course, the Fallen Crest Series. Wasn’t that series great, Maryse? Ohhhhh, that’s right…you still haven’t read it. *Hmph* Never mind then.
” <— *pout* OKAY!! It will be in my 2015 list. 😉
- Unwind (Unwind Dystology Book 1) by Neal Shusterman <— Also super bargain priced and Fabi recommends this one saying: “But, YEAH, freaking crazy, mind warping books I will never forget.”
- THERAPY by Kathryn Perez <— TONS of amazing reviews and this is one of Amy’s top books of 2014. She says: “’cause of all the anger and freak-outs it caused” and Shannon agrees. “…definitely wrenched my heart”
- Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon <— In JenC’s top 2014 list. She says: “Again, another romantic comedy right when I needed it. Super cute read. Totally moving to Canada.”
- Twist Me (Twist Me #1) by Anna Zaires <— DARK READ ALERT!! One from of Jamie’s top 2014: “One series that I absolutely adored this year was Twist Me/Keep Me by Anna Zaires. It’s really dark and a bit disturbing, but I am obsessed with it!”
- Keep Me (Twist Me #2) by Anna Zaires <— and here’s #2
- All of Me by Gina Sorelle <— One of bee’s top 2014 books: “I do love a broken hero.”
- Burn for Me: A Hidden Legacy Novel by Ilona Andrews <— Another bev favorite. She says: “Why did it take me so long to read this author? I was missing out.”
- Puddle Jumping by Amber L. Johnson <— this one made quite a few top 2014 lists. Including bev’s. “Just so sweet.” (Agreed! And here’s my own review).
- Sex Love Repeat by Alessandra Torre <— Regina loved this one for her 2014 list and I agree (it actually made my top 2013 list). 😉 Here’s my review.
Striking Distance (An I-Team Novel) by Pamela Clare <— ISDonIsGood gave us her awesome looking list and lets us into why each one is a favorite. Like this one! “…this book covered confronting topics very well, with great characters and a wonderful story. May be a trigger (read Author’s Notes on her website). The prior books in this series do not cover similar content and I would certainly recommend reading those as well. A great series that continues to grow in depth and she hit the ball out of the park with this one.“
- Aftermath by Cara Dee <— IsDonIsGood loved this one, too! She says: “another book I would never have thought I would enjoy without recommendations. This was my first M/M book. I typically don’t enjoy ‘flashbacks’ in books, but it was used perfectly in this book to move the story forward.” AGREED!! Here is my review.
- Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward <— One of Cindy’s 2014 favs! She says: “here was so much UST in this one and I found myself holding my breath a lot waiting to see how things played out”
- Must Love Dogs: (Book 1) by Claire Cook <— Cute movie. I haven’t read the book but it’s on super-sale!
- Degradation (The Kane Trilogy Book 1) by Stylo Fantôme <— Tessa LOVED this one “This kept me on my toes all the way until the end. I seriously loved it, and I could not put it down.” and Jessica too: “Maryse and fellow lovers of angst and alphas… so I just met Jameson Kane from The Kane Trilogy… holy sh#t balls *fans self* I read all 3 books in under 48 hours… total mad woman. I think I have just found the most dirty talking alpha… period. I went from a total dry spell… …and then met Mr Kane and he is such flawed perfection that words don’t do him justice… the angst, the pushing and pulling is on a whole new level. I just wish my newly developed Mr Kane obsession didn’t result in me feeling the wrath of an angry shop assistant after I knocked over a whole stack of cans with my trolley *hangs head in shame* who knew reading and pushing where such a lethal combo?” Here is the Kane Trilogy Series Reading Order.
- Inspire (The Muse Book 1) by Cora Carmack <— One of Shannon’s 2014 favorites: “I just finished “Inspire” by Cora Carmack and sooo wish the next one was out already!”
RAZE by Tillie Cole <— JUST RELEASED!!! Lynne Ann brought this one to my attention asking: “Anyone read Raze by Tillie Cole? It looks amazing & the reviews are SO good!” <— OH WOW!!! SOUNDS SO GOOD!! She’s a mob-princess but in a “protective prison” that she wants to escape and… “While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget… for both their sakes.”
- Forever Your Concierge by Jessica Intro <— JUST RELEASED!! Debi says: “Travis is so romantic! Maya’s struggles are so real! I think you would love this one!”
- Beautiful Bastard (The Beautiful Series Book 1) by Christina Lauren <— One of Jackie’s favorites: “I know I’m late to the party on this, but I’ve just blown through Beautiful Bastard and the rest in the series. Why oh why did I wait this long???? What an addicting series. I think Beautiful Player was my favorite so far (more coming out this year). I highlighted so many fun and funny passages in that book.”
- The Girl in 6E (A Deanna Madden Novel Book 1) by A.R. Torre <— super-sale on this one and Kristin says: “The Girl in 6E was outside of my comfort zone. ” Sounds good! 🙂 and Jody agrees: “I am currently reading ‘The Girl in 6E’, it came out April 16th. Totally different to my normal reads and WOW!. Dark, twisted with a little humor thrown in. It has different POV’s and little side stories which I can’t wait to see how it all ends. :)”
This IS a special Friday list! Thanks!
Random thought for the new year…we read some (admittedly) crazy stories…but…have any of you taken a look at the news lately? It scrolls across the front of my phone so I see blurbs all day long – dang! – we live in a crazy world. Double thanks to all these awesome authors who provide us with entertainment escape into (good) crazy worlds.
RAZE … Ahhh ..
Miss Tillie Cole, you broke my hard at first chapter than true the book several times till the end.
This is my first read in 2015. and 5 stars for me.
So bring it on… 😉
Happy New year my reading friends!!!
GREAT news! It sounds SO good!!!
Fabi I agree! Thank goodness for these reading escapes.
Forever Interrupted is one of those that scares me, lol.
So many tempting books, but went on a very tiny one cclick spree before the 1st, so now trying to hold back.
I think I’m going to read Beautiful Bad Man by Ellen O’Connell tonight. I’m still debating doing a re read of Iced.
“…result in me feeling the wrath of an angry shop assistant after I knocked over a whole stack of cans with my trolley” <——- *snort-choke* OMG, reading and pushing a trolley at the same time?!? LOL!!!! Jessica is freaking awesome!!
I'm loving all the 2014 favorites lists on here. And I'm with you ladies about the reading escapes these authors give us. So much crap going on that I am more than grateful to only have to deal with my measly first-world problems without complaint. Well, except for sarcastic complaints. Like how when I've spent 15 minutes (at least) on my eyeshadow alone, shading and blending and shading and blending until it looks airbrushed on and I'm all giddy because it looks so pretty and both eyes are even, and then I hit my eyelid with the mascara wand and leave a big black mark on the shadow which screws it all up. Yeah, yeah… *makes come hither motion with fingers* Bring on the peanut throwing. 😛 It's a good day if that is my biggest complaint, right? 😉
Oh Bev, Forever Interrupted is great. Really. Don’t be scared of it…I’ll be here with my manatee and we’ll snuggle ya. You can even snuffle on me and I won’t care. 😉
Bev it scares me too but I took the plunge and bought. I couldn’t resist with everyone raving about it. It’s time to read!!
See, Bev? Even Erin is gonna read it! 😀
ljiljana you just made me click RAZE and then I clicked It ain’t me babe then the rest I blame Maryse!
The Kane trilogy was really good. The H/ h were one of my favorite crazy couples . I also really enjoyed Hotblooded by Kendall Grey
Still reading KA At Peace, Oh Joe loving it of course
Amy, I love how you always encourage us to read the books you think will make us cry and need a manatee. I do remember TTM, lol.
I don’t have any recs like that. I want you all to try Kleypas, cause love her writing & some of my fave characters, but……no cuddles needed. I think it may have made Michelle giggle, though, lol.
Donna, that was my first KA. Loved Joe, Vi & the girls. I know some didn’t like the Buddy nickname, but I thought it fit Joe. Then went on to Sweet Dreams, so yeah that was a good reading week for me.
Erin, please let me know how that works out for you.
I really dont want to read any books thats going to make me sob and hurt intentionally. I read a book about 15 years ago that made me cry for a week,I didn’t pick up a book intill FSoG which I loved and started reading again. Then I found Maryse and I have over 300 books on my phone phew!
LOL Donna! You can blame me. 😉
Amy!! I love shading and blending. I’m finally starting to get over that “muddy” look when I’d try to blend. I’m practicing and it’s working!!!
Oh for me it’s the perfect shadow, and then the liquid liner mess that I make and have to q-tip gingerly which means a big patch of my blending disappears. *sigh*
I’m jealous of everyone reading any book by Taylor Jenkins Reid right now. JEALOUS!
Bev the sadness in At Peace is about all I can take or want to take. Loved Sweet Dreams too. I’ve read alot of KA books , personally I think she is a genius!
Oh and I think buddy is sweet!
I do have a made me ugly cry book I’d rec. The Time Traveler’s Wife, gorgeous.
Donna I have to ask, what was the book?
Maryse, that’s how I feel about Dreaming of You. I remember I bought it at a used book store and then had to go to a class. I kept trying to sneak peeks at it, lol.
I gotta read it, bev!!!
Bev the name of the book was Mask of Time by Gabriel Marcus it was a library book.
Okay. I gotta admit, this Kane dude has me intrigued…. I may just have to download the sample…
Still working on finishing The Three Series Book 3 “Wild and Free” by KA.
Where or where is the “other Michelle”???? Been waiting for a Tairen Soul update! I’m living vicariously through you for my Shei’tan fix. Weave me some magic girl!!! Are you still trekking along with it? I know it’s hard to commit to a series nowadays.
Maryse, I’d love if you did.
MichelleS, with the speed she reads she has probably already finished the whole series since last she checked in, lol.
*Fabi flying in outta left field* (you gotta be used to it by now huh?)
Golden Son comes out Jan 6th and I just ordered a signed copy. Yup, an honest to goodness signed copy. I am psyched!
..and for those of you (all of you?) Wondering wth is the Golden Son. It’s the sequel to Red Rising by Pierce Brown which won the 2014 new author Goodreads award. Been waaaaiiiiting for it. 🙂
In other news, Bastian’s Storm is going well. He’s so confused and is such a mess and crap just rained down on him…Cheryl, not sure why you didn’t finish it unless it gets really slow in the last half of the book. So far, I’ve fallen for him all over again.
Dreaming of You seriously is on my favorite list for the year and if you like historical romance, it is a must read! Wasn’t it on someone elses list as a favorite for the year too? Bev, it made me girly giggle like a fool…and swoon…
Haha I’m still loving the shei’tan don’t worry MichelleS! I hope to be into King of Sword and Sky tomorrow!
I’m on hold for Golden Son and will get a copy the 6th but I still need to read Red Rising Fabi. I have it and wanted to read this weekend but I can’t drag myself away from the Tairen Soul series! Did you read the first book? I don’t think I could have read the first book and stopped there.
I know Michelle. Tairen Soul is so good. I keep telling myself to get back to it but it’s pricey and I have so many great series waiting my reading of the next book. I start getting hives when I think of all my favorite series, including Tairen Soul, that have books waiting for me.
Aww don’t get hives Fabi! I’m lucky I bought them all a while ago but they seem popular in the fantasy realm and I see them at a lot of libraries too. I think the series is fantastic so far though and regret not reading it sooner!
Aw, come on Bev and Donna…I only love recommending ugly-cry books ’cause then y’all have to come looking for a comfort snuggle! And I love snuggling. I’m kinda touchy-feely like that, if you hadn’t noticed. 😉
Seriously Maryse, if you can apply liquid liner then you have skills. I mucked up liquid liner too many times and now use gel liner with a brush. Oh yeah, and don’t try to apply mascara while hubby is road raging. Just sayin’. 😕
Trying to find the name of a dark read. Girl is captured for slavery
and falls for her master. Then at end of book she discovers he is from the
government and she hates him. Do you know the title? I was wondering
if there was a second book out.
Just bought Raze. Sounds so good! Reading KA’s Wild and Free right now and loving Abel and Delilah, their families, and all the characters from the previous two books also. I love that feeling of connecting to previous characters and remember their journey and seeing how their story is going to weave into this current story.
I’m one of the pu$$ie$ that hasn’t read Forever Interrupted yet, but you all are pushing (maybe shoving) me closer and closer. But that’s part of why I listen to you all, for the recs and the reviews and the encouragement to read books that I might not have considered.
Happy New Year to everyone!
Man I’m so out the loop!!! Still reading the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison and I love it but I’m missing things!!!!
I would recommend girl in 6e it was a very twisty story and the research that must have went into it was amazing!
Can I just say I’m already disappointed with 2015 as I don’t have a skate board that hovers like Marty mc fly as it was supposed to be in 2015 I mean that would look cool with my machalo now i will just look silly lol
Oh now I know what I am a pu$$ie!! although I do like dark, gritty WTF, raw and dirty books hmmm
A little over halfway through in Bastian’s Storm we’ve met Evan and the role he’s going to play. I don’t remember anything about him or his story. I remember gobbling up those books like they were sugar candy. But now I can’t recall a single detail. 🙁
I loved both Bastian and Evan so when I heard they were going to fight I was like oh no! I have Bastian’s strom on my tbr list dont know what Im waiting for. The pic of Bastian on the cover is not how I pictured him that throws me.
I felt like punishing myself so I clicked Forever,Interrupted. Happy now Maryse and Amy!
YAY Donna!!!! *grabs Maryse’s arm and shakes it* Did ya hear that? Did ya?!? Book pressure works again! 😀
So, MichelleS and Donna, should we now call you our little kitties? *snicker* Luffs ya!
Ann, the only thing close to that which I have read is Tears of Tess but it didn’t have the government angle to it. I think. Yeah, no it didn’t. If you don’t find what you are looking for then ToT is a good one. 😉
*snort* OMG Laura. Why? Why do you do that? Now I’m gonna be grinning (and probably snorting) like a damn fool when my hubby and I go out tonight. Laura wearing a machalo. And pouting ’cause she doesn’t have a skateboard that hovers.
😐
BAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Go Donna! You’re brave. It’s been on my TBR list since Maryse reviewed it, but I just know that Forever Interrupted is gonna be a tear jerking cry-fest for me and I need to stock up on my kleenex supply first. There are only a few topics that guarantee tears from me and death of a spouse is one of them. But so many people have raved about this book and how beautiful Ben and Elsie’s story is that I’m sure I will have to experience it for myself. Donna, please comment when you’ve finished the book and share what you think. I’m working myself up to read that one and will need to vicariously draw on your courage. 😀
LMAO while licking my paw Amy!
Michelle F just reading Maryse review got to me. A couple of months ago I started Three Rivers had to put it down to sad went back to it and really enjoyed it. No tissues theres always toilet paper no excuses. psyching myself up
MichelleS – I absolutely loved the Kane trilogy. Went through the series one right after the other!
I just finished the Dark Duet series ( Captive in the Dark etc) and it gave me a bit of a book hangover. I’m reading total fluff right now. I needed it after Caleb.
Ann could the book be escape from paradise. Tracy I also loved the Kane trilogy. Luckly all the books were out. I really liked all the characters. A crazy, sexy some times funny read with some angst. Jameson was certainly a different type of bad boy!
Jameson is Satan, which is why we love him. *grins* Yeah, two of my recommends on here! I’m making it my new years resolution to get Maryse to read Fallen Crest High. If nothing else, it’d get a lot of us off her back.
Lol. Poor Maryse. I wonder how long of a list she would end up with if she had one of all the books we encourage her to read.
All ready to read and then started watching North & South. Gah. Just love it.
Bastian’s Storm made me cry. First book to do that in a while. Not finished yet.
I have the first book of the Fallen Crest series on my tbr too.
I’m tellin ya, I have so many good/great ones waiting to be read that I’m beside myself. Really stressing me out cause there’s like a dozen coming out in Jan that I HAVE to have.
Haha amy remember knee and elbow pads in the picture aswell lol
I’ll jump on the Fallen Crest bandwagon with Tessa. They are excellent. I still have to read Fallen Fourth Down which is my next read. Give it a try Fabi.
Well Tessa they did call him the Devil! hehe
I’m also one of those pu$$y’s that hasn’t read Forever, Interrupted. I just know I’m setting myself up for an ugly cry. Not sure I can do it.
Fabi, it probably was the mood I was in, I’ll have to restart Bastian’s Storm.
Marsye, it’s always the liquid eyeliner that screws up my eyeshadow!
Just finished Playing with the Drummer. Good read, but felt like I was missing some of the back story about other characters in the book. Then I found out it is book 3 in a series written by 3 different authors. Each book can be a standalone, but probably would be better to read the first two to have a more complete understanding of the other characters in the band’s story leading up to this finale.
Cheryl that happened to me with Deeper. It was a dnf for me but I have no idea why. It got rave reviews here. I have to go and try it again since I have no idea why I strayed from it.
I finished Bastian’s Storm last night and WOW, 4.5 stars for me. It pulled at my heartstrings.
Laura, did the Girl in 6E end in a cliffhanger, notice there is a book 2 coming out in April?
The Kane trilogy sounds good. I had one-clicked book one when it was free. Have to take a look at it. 😉
I haven’t read Forever Interrupted either or Ugly Love. Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite authors but I just haven’t steeled myself for the heartache yet.
Loved Surviving Raine and Bastian’s Storm.
Has anyone read Karina Halle’s Devil’s Reprise series?
Cheryl, I’ve read everything Halle I can get on Kindle so yes I’ve read that series and liked it. I liked Experiment In Terror series better, but Devil’s Reprise is good too. It takes place in the 70’s and has really cool music references which I think reflects Halle’s history writing in that industry. There is also a little crossover with the EIT series in a way. If you’re looking for a kick ass Karina Halle series, read the Artist Trilogy if you haven’t already. My favorite!
Michelle F, I did read the Artist Trilogy and I loved it too. Thought I had read everything Halle has written, but then saw the Devils Metal/ Reprise. It’s definitely a “different” rock story. Just wasn’t sure about the paranormal/horror/music combination. 😉
Michelle F – did you read her “zombies in the old west” novel Donners of the Dead? (Karina Halle)…. that was an interesting one!!! Read it this summer. Good, in a weird way…. I
Oh, wow, I just realized it was Michelle “F” and not Michelle “S” who said she was a pu$$y…but it looks like Cheryl can be added to the kitty list now, too. 😛
With Forever Interrupted, it’s not the kind of ugly cry that comes from being blindsided by a tragic event. You know right from the beginning what has happened. For me, what made it so unique was how when it jumped back and forth there were the chapters of *after* which were heartbreaking and then the chapters of *before* where we get to know him and get a brief reprieve from the heartache (for the most part). So it was like falling in love with him while mourning him at the same time because I already knew he was gone, so my heart was breaking and healing in different crazy increments throughout the book.
Oh yeah, and then the last line of the last chapter was there to remind me that I was still its b*tch. I loved every minute of that book. 😉
Hey guys, the whole corps security series (boxed set) is on preorder sale for .99!! It will go up to 9.99 soon so grab it while you can!!
Michelle S, yes I read Donners of the Dead and really liked it! Loved the strong H/h and definitely an imaginative take on a gruesome story from pioneer history.
Amy, ok ok ok I’ve one-clicked Love Interrupted. 😀
Tasha, the Corps Security series rocks! Super-alpha bad-ass hotness in each of those books.
Really enjoying reading these comments… Great suggestions and humour!!! So Love interrupted sounds tempting but I am also seriously afraid… Just needing a quick but of advice… My mum has terminal brain cancer and we are moving into the final stages (hence my all night reading and need to become absorbed in intense books that keep my mind busy-thank you Debt and Kane Trilogy). Do you think I should steer clear of Love Interrupted at the moment?
P.S I read Raze and it is a must read. Tillie Cole is truly gifted… It is dark… Like vegemite (Ozzy spread… Basically this black salty condiment, creates a total sensory overload, kinda disgusting… But you keep going back for more).
Freebie update:
Weak for Him by Lyra Parish
Rise of the Fallen by Donya Lynne
Savage Hunger by Terry Spear
Lost to You by AL Jackson
Unbreakable by Rebecca Shea
Unraveling You by Jessica Sorensen
Saving Wishes by GJ Walker-Smith
The Forgotten Ones by Laura Howard
Jessica, send good thoughts your way. I am sorry you and your family are going through this. I have not read the book so can not say what emotional triggers it could touch on. That would be different for everyone anyone. I do know for myself, having gone through a very similar situation I had to stay away from the tear jerkers, real life was hurting enough. A couple years later I still tread cautiously, but sometimes, very few, I’ll read one I know will touch on what I felt. My two cents go with what will help take care of you and your heart right now.
Jessica I’m so sorry to hear about your mum. I haven’t read that book, but I tend to stay away from tear jerker stories myself. I’m sure you’ll find great books to read here. Tons of great recommendations.
Michelle, thank you so much for the freebies. I always download them. They are a great supplement to all the money I spend on books. They are also a fantastic way to discover new series. Thanks again.
Oh Jessica, I’m so sorry to hear about your mum. *big hug* Been there and nothing else I can say except that cancer sucks hairy donkey balls. Thoughts, prayers, and even more hugs for you and your mum.
As for Forever, Interrupted…I would say it depends on how well you handle books that may make you cry and if you’re okay with it during a time like this. At least you will know from the start of FI what is going on…no sneak attacks on your gut or heart. For me personally, books like that are great because they give me that release that I need from a good old ugly cry when stuff just sucks and everything is building up inside. Aaaaaand I just like books that make a mess out of me anyway. 😉 But then there are others who need something more upbeat or funny or light during hard times. And I understand that, too.
On a little bit of a lighter note, where are you located, Jessica? I ask because you used the word “trolley” and you call your mother “mum.” Our friend Laura here is in Scotland, and she is forever cracking me up with the terms she uses. Like snottery. *snicker* Yep, I still find that one funny like any self-respecting grade schooler would.
Fabi you are most welcome! I like to find series that way and matter of fact found one of my favorite fantasy reads this year, Edgelanders, that way.
MichelleS I’m still going strong with the Tairen Soul series 😀 So much happened in the second book. I still like Bel best but Gaelen and his whole story was great. So sad about Elfeya and Shan – I hope they somehow get out! Oh and of course Rain and Ellie finally getting together for real was HOTTT! I’m half way thru the next book and want to try and finish tonight but this one is pretty long – almost 500 pages but love every bit of it!
Michelle – Gaelen just gets better and better – loved that character! And Elfeya and Shan – you have to hurt a whole lot for a long time there, I’m afraid. Won’t spoil anything for you. Did you meet the elves yet? I can’t remember what book they come in. That whole mist thing that surrounds the fading lands was way cool too. SOOOOO excited that you like it. YAY! Like Bev said in another post, it is nail-biting nervous when others read a book that you just love love love, you know?
Jessica arms hugging you,I lost my mother and one of my best friends to that f##king cancer. Read something funny like wallbanger or tangled.
I second that Donna. My mom was just diagnosed with stage iv bc. And I’m still brittle from my last major loss so it’s going to be a lot of light or PNR/Sci Fi reading for me this year. I won’t be able to handle anything too emotional.
Oh Fabi arms hugging you too… Your Mom will beat it just sh#ty she has to go thru it
Ah, Fabi, hugs to you too.
I think one of the reasons I love WIR so is I read it around 5 or so months after and I was able to completely lose myself in it.
*hugs* to all who have to deal with a trying start to the new year…my family did too and finding an outlet is always helpful. Reading has always been that for me. For me, even sad stories that make me cry act like a pressure release valve on emotions you bottle up.
MichelleS no actual elves…well actually no, they meet the ambassador in book 2 at the palace and he tells Ellie her Song in the Dance has begun (ooo mysterious world altering events to come…).
Hugs to you Jessica and Fabi…. and hopefully these books and our little chats about them will brighten your spirits a bit. Will keep you in my thoughts! Isn’t it nice to get away from it all and read a good book?
Jessica and Fabi major hugs to you both. Personally, I think it seems like reading is an escape from every day life for you, so I would lean more towards the funny, lighter reads or paranormal. I’m sure you have had your share of crying, why add more.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the hugs and support.
Bev, Fabi, Amy, Donna, Michelle, Michelle S and Cheryl thank you for your kind words… they are very much appreciated! Bev, Amy Donna and Fabi I am really sorry to hear you have been through/ are going through something similar… sending kind thoughts your way. It seems that everyone I speak to has been touched by cancer in some way and cancer is just so horrible!!! Fabi I feel for you with your mum’s diagnosis. Mum’s are so precious and I just can’t stand the thought of my life without her in it. She has lasted 3 years which is amazing given the stats of GBM (her cancer) and considering she also has unrelated bowel cancer which has spread to her liver and lungs. She is a fighter and truly inspirational! I am going to take the advice and steer clear of Forever Interrupted at the moment. My role at present is to keep strong for my dad who has absolutely adored my mum since the day he met her so crying is something I am trying to avoid.
Amy, on a lighter note I am from Australia- Adelaide to be exact. Word differences can be such a scream… Are most people here from the States?
I just realised I originally wrote Love Interrupted *face palm*
Jessica your family is lucky to have a wonderful daughter like you. This is a reminder that in this life nothing should be taken for granted. I’m from the US. Connecticut. I bet you have an adorable accent!
Jessica, I am from the states. I believe the ladies I seem to talk with the most are all from the states, except for Laura.
But, from what I can tell, people from all over the seem to read and comment here.
Cheryl no girl in 6e didn’t have a CH but I suppose there could be another book to it the way it ended? Hmmm will have to look that up!!
Jessica so sorry to hear about ur mum it’s such a horrible thing I hope u are all ok too! Have u read welcome to sugertown? It’s based in Australia!
Oh Fabi, not you too. Big hugs to you as well.
Okay, here’s a Shades of Grey martini for Fabi and Jessica for their moms (grey for brain cancer awareness) and a royal blue martini for me for my dad (colon and prostate cancer awareness). *lifts martini* Here’s to our kick-a$$ parents who we can only strive to be as tough as. Cheers! And hugs!
Thanks for the martini Amy. Cheers
(((HUGS))) to so many of you that are staying strong for your families. Cancer totally f***ing sucks, and not in the fun way. Lost my dad to cancer, still think about him every day. But also saw my grandmother beat the sh** out of breast cancer (twice) and survive lung cancer and live to be 93 years old! Blessings and strength to you all.
I needed a funny and easy series that I could pick up and escape with during the hours in hospital waiting rooms so I read all of Tara Sivec’s Chocolate Lovers series (Seduction & Snacks, Futures & Frosting, Troubles & Treats, and Hearts & Llamas) then the follow-up Chocoholics series (Love & Lists, Passion & Ponies, and Tattoos & Tatas) last year and they were laugh out loud hilarious stories! Cute and sweet romance but great sisterhood friendship too. (((more hugs)))
Just wanted to say thank you again for the lovely words and sorry I didn’t write back to any of the last ones. It has been a rough few days for my mum so time was scarce.
