About the “genre” she says:
“From the moment of conception, this book’s genre has been a world of confusion. Some say YA, some say NA, it’s shelved in some places under women’s fiction and if you look at Amazon, despite much protest by me, it is strangely listed as a psychological thriller. I never write books with the idea that they will fit a certain mold. I just write the stories I want to tell and more often than not, the genre is pretty obvious when the book is finished. But sometimes, the genre is not so clear.
When it was announced that Without Merit was one of the books in the Goodreads Choice Awards for best romance, I was nervous that’s not where it belonged. It could fit everywhere and nowhere.
Because of that, I was floored when I was told that it won best contemporary romance for 2017. To see how many of you supported it made me realize that your votes should hold more merit than anything. And even though Sagan and Merit’s relationship isn’t the forefront of this story, it is a very important part of the story. So thank you to everyone who loved their relationship and Merit’s journey.”

I loved this book so much. Merit is one of those characters I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to because she was so real. She was terribly flawed, but she learned and grew from those flaws.

I’ve been a CoHort for a few years, but none of Colleen’s books have touched me in the way Without Merit has. I’m 18 and in October I was diagnosed with Major Depression, Generalized Anxiety, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Merit’s story helped me feel better about what was going on in my life. Ps I got a new puppy when I was discharged from my inpatient therapy and I named him Sagan!

I loved how Colleen tackled some serious issues with this story but my favorite was that moment when they are kissing! That was a breath taking scene. Where the heck did she come up with that?! I just absolutely loved it!!!
