EARLY BIRDS THAT JUST WENT LIVE RIGHT NOW!!!!!
- The Tutor by K. Larsen <— K. LARSEN KIDNAPPED/PSYCH-THRILLER ALERT!!! I read this one and it was creepy!!! This will not elicit warm fuzzy feelings” 😀 Here’s my “pre-review” (Pre-review? Yep. I reviewed it back when it was about to go to editing – not even in ARC format yet). I was so happy! LOL!

Roommates With Benefits by Nicole Williams <—THE LATEST BY NICOLE WILLIAMS IS LIVE!!! HE’S HER ROOMMATE & HE’S DELIGHTFULLY INFURIATING (okay, potentially delightfully for ME… maybe not so much for her. Then again… 😉 ) “He’s bossy. Messy. Cocky. Infuriating. Doesn’t believe in personal space. Has no qualms about roaming the apartment with a loincloth-sized towel cinched around his waist. Seems under the delusion he’s my personal protector (refer back to infuriating). He plays college baseball and holds down a part-time job—I don’t know where he finds the time to get on my nerves. We have nothing in common . . . except our attraction to one another...”

Good morning! Happy Monday!!
Good morning Nay!!! 😀
*big squeeeeezy hug*
Ugh! I hate Mondays! Good morning everyone and what a nice start to the week!
Oooh! I love being able to get big squeeeezy hugs again!!! My boys had resorted to just patting me on the back for a while. lol
Maryse–MUCH to my dismay, Amazon says that The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo isn’t coming out until next Tuesday, 6/13 which SUCKS!!! Whassup with that???
And where is everyone???
Not sure Karina Halle is going live. That has been moved around. She is only taking about another book this month
Maryse, please say the “secret” the author told you about The Tutor is not a cliffhanger or book 2 we’ll have to wait for!!
Oh… really? How did I miss that? *gah* I’ll fix!! 😀
Hello ladies! I had to 1- click The Tutor!
Me too, Jean!
Hello ladies! Happy Monday to everyone! Rumor has it that Mariana Zapata has a new release coming out in a couple weeks!!!!
You’ll love The Tutor… And there’s something there at the end… Not a cliffy. But a gift of sorts… *giggle*
June is shaping up to be awesome on the book release front.
So, The Tutor is a good one? Think I’ll like it despite how picky I’ve been lately? Ridiculously picky, and I hate it. I feel like my mind is at war with my heart lately, with my mind overthinking everything and my heart not getting what it needs because of my stupid mind.
Er, that sounded better in my head… 😕
What does your heart want vs your head?
My heart wants to soar and clench and be swept off its feet, go pitter-patter, and lose itself to a story like it used to.
My stupid head keeps rolling its eyes and telling my heart that each book lately is not to the level which warrants those feelings because I keep OVERTHINKING TOO. DAMN. MUCH.
*sigh* Have I become a book snob???
Amy, why don’t you try Sustained. Maryse loved it and you guys usually agree. It might be the change you need…..maybe not a lot of angst, but funny! I have not read it yet but it’s on the list of the next 5 I need to read, which includes The Tutor. You did love Jezebel so maybe that one would work for you too! Don’t give up! Honestly, I think we are all becoming book snobs because there are very few in all our books that we totally go crazy over lately.
Maryse DID LOVE SUSTAINED!!! That book is a no-brainer to recommend ’cause it’s a fun (and yet “feelsy”) read.
Your heart has very high standards, lol.
Book slumps.
I re read favorites. I know a no go for you.
I read different genres and types. Aka Jean’s suggestion.
I focus on TV shows. *shrug * sometimes it is easier to turn my mind off during an ep than reading. Same with podcasts. And I still get the story telling.
I come on here and bug you all until someone comes out and plays until I get my reading mojo back.
I want to read Sustained too.
Bev and Amy, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Sustained. It was really, really good. Loved the dialogue… I still think about it and read it a couple years ago and that’s rare for me because I have no memory! I need some books for a road trip so my plan is to get Jewel E Ann’s When Life Happened, Tutor, Ruckus because I really liked Viscous and think I really need Dean’s story and Dark Matter for audio. Plus I’m still reading Court of Mist and Fury. I think that should do it but if not, I will definitely be checking in for suggestions!!!
Marina, you’ll take a break before Wings and Ruin? 😀 I admit, I don’t think I could have resisted diving into it if it had been released by the time I finished Mist and Fury.
I just read a review and it got me thinking. The review said they liked the book because it was written so well, even though the characters were flat. Now, I’m wondering. What’s more important? The writing being excellent, the plot being intellegent, or the characters being well rounded? Pick ONLY one.
Amy, I’m going to go out on a limb here. I’ve read both TSHoEH and The Tutor. I think you’ll get swept up in both of them, because I think you and I tend to agree on a lot of these… We covet the craft, that masterful storytelling… and in both of these books, these authors throw it down… they prove they can *WRITE!*
Each of these books are epics… in their own separate and distinct ways. I, 5 star loved TSHoEH, and I hadn’t 5 starred a book in 6 months. I got swept up in the story, it was everything you just said… the whole package, carrying me away… pitter patter, mad, sad… I felt Evelyn Hugo… even when I didn’t want to.
But then, there’s The Tutor… and while I only rated this as 4.25 stars, (which for me, is still an EXCELLENT rating, 😆 ) I’m thinking I may need to bump my rating up slightly. Because here I am, a month later, and I’m still thinking about it. It’s dark… I had full on pretzel tummy… There’s something about the way K. Larsen writes, that just hooks you and draws you into the world she builds. It’s different this time, more staccato-ish in nature to me at first, but then the methodology behind it sunk in and it totally made sense and vibed with the story. Yeah… Jezebel feels, I had them.
Anyway, *shrug*, I could be way off base. But I think I’m a book snob too… LOL!
I can’t find this book i read a few months ago. Can’t remember much but it was an older man/younger woman kind. She was seventeen and living with hum. I remember this scene in which he was on a business meeting and she was sitting on his lap wearing a swimsuit…
Does anyone have any idea about what book it is?
Amy, I get what you’re saying. A five-star read or a book with the “feels” used to happen more often for me. I don’t think it’s that we have become book snobs, it’s just over time we have refined what we like and what we expect. Unfortunately, the books now seem to be similar in their premise and seem to have fallen into a pattern of sorts; I know now that at about 80% something bad is going to happen to tear apart the H and h and that by about 90-95% it will start to be resolved. The excellent well-written story that works for our hearts and minds is more rare now.
I loved Sustained too, but it is not a marmy book and you just have to go with being entertained and laughing your a$$ off. The kids and Jake are hilarious!
Hey DG. Mariana Zapata’s new book is called Dear Aaron, about a woman writing letters to a deployed soldier and she falls in love with him. Supposed to be here soon. Can’t wait!
Sustained is a great read. I loved it (and you know how picky I am.)
bev when I get in a book slump I’m with you. I go to my old favs for a reread. Like comfort food for the soul. But at the moment there seem to be so many new goodies around that I hardly know which way to turn.
I’ve started Dating You Hating You today (released here this morning in Australia). So far I’m liking it. Kinda fun. Very different from the Beautiful series. But I love these co-authors.
The new Nalini Singh psy-changeling pnr comes out next week (Silver Silence) and I’m in two minds about it. I used to really love that series, but then it went to cr*p and I was soooo booorrrred by the last couple I swore I wouldn’t read any more. But supposedly this new one starts a whole new story arc and I’m wondering whether I should give it a try. *taps finger on mouth indecisively* Unfortunately her books are so expensive. I don’t want to pay $13 AUD and find it’s rubbish. I suppose I’ll do my usual and try a sample plus read a few reviews before deciding. She used to be an auto buy for me, but I’m much more cautious now after being burnt.
Tessa…I don’t want to pick only one. Too hard.
I lean more towards characters than plot though I prefer both.
I can enjoy a Law and Order ep but I don’t feel a drive to watch them because I’m not invested in the characters. It is much more plot driven.
I have also stuck with books that do not feature the best writing because I’m curious as to how the premise resolves or in what happens to te characters.
Look I read all 3 of the Erin Watt books and they really had none of those attributes you listed. Looking back I should be more upset by that because I believe they can reach a higher caliber. Yet, I read them. So I don’t know what that says.
Jan, I still enjoy the series though have not read the last couple. But! Bears!
However, I am trying to read x amount of books before buying. Not counting the pre orders I have from winter coming out this month.
*grins* Bev, I totally get you with the Erin Watt books. Though, I did love that first one.
Me, it’s character first. I think that’s probably why I don’t watch cop shows or action movies. If the character is flat… blah. Also, unless the writing is excessively terrible, I’ll be okay with it. I’ll know it’s bad but, meh.
Honest truth: If the characters are awesome, but the plot and story kind of suck, I’ll stick to it. If the plot and writing are awesome, but the characters are 2D… DNF.
OK bev, bears, yeah *grins* But I’m tellin’ ya, don’t bother with the last couple. Boorriinngg.
I think it’s characters first too. I have to believe in them. They have to seem real. I have to care what happens to them. For me that drives the whole book. Of course plot is key as well, but If I love the characs and want know what happens to them, I’ll keep on reading to the end. If the characters are so-so, my interest usually tapers off pretty quickly and yeah, dnf……..
Tessa, I forgot to write that I will have Wings and Ruin with me too! What happened and why I’m bringing others is that I had to stop reading Mist and Fury to read a book club book so it ruined my flow. And now I’m seeing other quicker reads and squirreling around. But I will get back on Wings and Ruin and I’m sure go straight into M&F! I do need to see Yellowstone too! My brain is like books, books, more books. We’ll see what happens!
Jean…it HAS been a while since we all (or most) went completely nuts over the same book, except for maybe Sustained which has been pretty well loved around here. But nothing to the levels we have had before. 😕
“I come on here and bug you all until someone comes out and plays until I get my reading mojo back.” <——- And THAT, my friend, is one of the many reasons why we love ya. Sooooo…you, me, Jean, and Sustained? Everyone is seeming to love it…
Marina, you have reading tastes which are right up our alley. 😉
Maria…in case you check back in, was it the Wild Side series by RK Lilley?
Cheryl…exactly. EXACTLY. What would I do without y’all to commiserate with me??
Two more votes from Jan and Cheryl for Sustained. Hmmm…okay, Sustained is up next for me after Torch Against the Night. And then The Tutor because K. LARSEN!!!
Sorry Amy, too late. I jumped into The Tutor last night and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! I will be sneak reading at work all day today without a doubt!
And Sustained is next for me…..
