HUGEST book release day we’ve had in a while!!!! I don’t even know where to start. Too many of my fav authors have released a book today (Colleen Hoover, Kresley Cole, Jennifer L. Armentrout <— P.S. I LOVE THAT SERIES), Shay Savage, Cara McKenna. GAH! But then again, can we ever have too many favorite author choices at once. I think not. 😛 <— Okay, so… I’m thinking that one right there to the left, ’cause I’m dying to see how Colleen Hoover does “adult”. 😉
Then again, another one of my absolute fav authors just released one. Lay It Down by Cara McKenna has been making me bounce in my seat with anticipation. Heh. Oh and I loved book #1 by Ryan Winfield, and while it had that “complete” feel to it, book #2 (Jane’s Harmony) continues their story and it. sounds. angsty!! Yep. What happens when the musician you love hits it big (especially with all of the insecurities of book #1)? MINE!! And then!! And then… Precarious (she’s a prison guard, and he’s just been brought it. But his MC club… breaks him out? And takes her, too?) YIKES!!! And another one, Offside by Shay Savage (totally different for her, ’cause she’s doing an older high school read). Except I have a feeling he’s still gonna be a bonafide %$#@! 😉 And I don’t *think* this will be YA in any manner. LOL!
Okay so take a look below, and chime in and let me know what your next read’ll be.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! )

BARGAINS
- Consumed (The MMA Romance Series – Book #1) by Alycia Taylor <— the start of a “serial” series, and for those that are fine with that, this sounds good! “I got a late start signing up for college and now all the dorms were filled. So I looked in the most logical spot for a place to stay, the newspaper. After finding an apartment with a guy that was supposedly an MMA fighter and only walking distance to the college, I sent first month’s rent payment. He seemed nice on the phone but when I showed up and knocked on the door I learned that I broke his number one rule, don’t ever interrupt his “business”. Will I be able to ignore the most popular guy on campus constantly hitting on me or will I give in and find that he’s something more?“
- Unmaking Hunter Kennedy by Anne Eliot <— sounds cute. He’s a famous jaded pop-star (in disguise at a new school) as he convalesces at his aunts house. “…the girl who’s been assigned to make him over into a geek is a major geek herself. Vere Roth is a chattering pixie, a blushing tornado and a complete social disaster. He’s never met a girl who’s never-been-kissed, believes in romance and thinks Hunter’s a ‘nice’ guy. Funny thing is…Hunter is nice around Vere because she’s his first real friend.“
- Baiting the Maid of Honor (a Wedding Dare Novel) (Entangled Brazen) by Tessa Bailey <— recently released!! Sounds like fun!!!! “She’s a people-pleasing sorority girl hiding behind her perfect mask. He’s a take-no-prisoners SWAT commander who isolates himself from the world. But when they’re forced together at their friends’ posh destination wedding, one thing is clear—Reed wants Julie more than he wants his next breath. Which is why he’s not about to stand by when she’s dared to seduce another man.” <— YAY!!!
- Wounded by Jasinda Wilder <— book #2 will be released next week —> (Captured) sounds SOOOOOO good, so maybe I’ll catch up and see what this one’s about. “In a country blasted by war and wracked by economic hardship, a young orphan girl like me has very few options when it comes to survival. Thus, I do what I must to live, to eat, and I try very hard to not consider the cost to my soul. My heart is empty, and my existence brutal. The one impossibility in my life is love. And then I meet HIM.” (<— and he’s a soldier!!)
- Present Perfect by Alison Bailey <— I read this one last year (good!)! Here’s my review of Present Perfect.
- One Night of Sin (An After Hours Novella) (Entangled Brazen) by Elle Kennedy <— MMA FIGHTER! “Danger follows former MMA fighter Gage Holt like a shadow. Despite his successes as part owner of Sin, an exclusive nightclub in Boston, Gage can’t risk getting involved with a woman, especially one as sweet as Skyler. Still, he can’t resist a taste—and it’s so damn good he has to see her again.“
- Reckless by Priscilla West <— Recently released! ROCK STAR? “I’d seen bad boys before, but he had it all and more. The rippling muscles covered in tatts, the piercing eyes hiding dark secrets, the silky voice that could make a girl come with just a whisper . . . He was exactly the type of guy that would get me in trouble, but when he jumped off the stage, inked skin glistening with sweat and breathed his seductive words into my ear, I couldn’t resist the temptation…”
- Temptation by Robin Covington <— Just recently released! She’s the rock star but is ordered to take a “time out” and then… “Max Butler is as far from a celebrity as you can get and he likes it that way. A Nashville firefighter, he’s living the single life with a revolving door of parties, friends, and a different woman in his bed every night. When his normal life suddenly collides with the girl on his favorite Rolling Stone cover, he sees the perfect chance to fulfill his ultimate fantasy and see just how bad Kit can be.“

CONTEMPORARY
- Ugly Love: A Novel by Colleen Hoover <— *squee!!* One of my FAVORITE authors!! I hear this one’s different from her past books. Much more adult, angst and crazy! “He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all…“
- Lay It Down: A Desert Dogs Novel by Cara McKenna <— New one from an author that I LOVE! “… Finally free of a controlling ex, Kim Paget’s not looking to be taken for a ride—not on the back of some tattooed roughneck’s bike and definitely not in his bed. But when she finds evidence that her bosses are rattlesnake-dangerous, Kim must entrust her safety to the man who threatens danger of a whole different kind.“
- Virgin by Radhika Sanghani <— THIS was the one that was on the back of our Book Bash volunteer t-shirts! “It’s not like I’m asking for that much. I don’t need the perfect guy. I don’t need candlelight or roses. Honestly, I don’t even need a real bed. The guys I know complain that girls are always looking for Mr. Right—do I have to wear a sign that says I’m only looking for Mr. Right Now?“
- Lead Me Not by A. Meredith Walters <— “As Aubrey and Maxx develop an attraction too intense to ignore, he pulls her into the dark underbelly of the city club scene, where she is torn by her desire to save him and an inexplicable urge to join him in his downward spiral.“
- Truly: The New York Series (The New York Trilogy) by Ruthie Knox <— She moves to NY from a small town… “…Now she’s got no phone, no cash, and no friends. How’s a nice girl supposed to get back to safe, sensible Wisconsin? Frankly, Ben Hausman couldn’t care less. Sure, it’s not every day he meets a genuine, down-to-earth woman like May—especially in a dive in the Village—but he’s recovering from an ugly divorce that cost him his restaurant. He wants to be left alone to start over and become a better man.“
- Jane’s Harmony: A Novel by Ryan Winfield <— Oh look, you guys!! I loved book #1 (she’s 40-something and he’s MUCH younger) and now this is the continuation (and I’m thinking this has big-angst potential!): “Caleb is a handsome young musician struggling to make ends meet. But when his fortunes take an unexpected and drastic turn for the better, Jane is left wondering where exactly she fits in.” Here’s my review of book #1: Jane’s Melody
- Blurred: A Connections Novella by Kim Karr
- One Night: Promised (The One Night Trilogy) by Jodi Ellen Malpas <— “Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He’s heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she’s almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she’ll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M. All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure…”

Plus, she’s HIS bodyguard. “Former soldier Liberty Masterson’s return to civilian life has been fraught with challenges until she lands a job with a prestigious security firm. But when she agrees to provide personal protection during a cross-country tour, she doesn’t realize she has signed up to masquerade as the playboy star’s girlfriend. It doesn’t help that when writing her steamy novels, she keeps casting Brody as the hero.“
- The Man Plan by Tracy Anne Warren <— Unrequited crush plus becoming roommates? Sounds like it could be fun! “What’s a girl to do when the man she’s loved her entire life thinks of her as a little sister? Worse, her own big sister was the one who broke his heart years earlier. For Ivy Grayson, the chance to get him to see her in a different light comes when she receives an unexpected invitation to move into his luxury New York apartment building.“
- Bound to Danger: A Deadly Ops Novel by Katie Reus
- The Lover’s Secret (No Exceptions Book 1) by J.C. Reed <— ohhhh freaky sounding! “What she doesn’t know is that the sexy stranger has an agenda of his own. Brooke Stewart has something he desperately wants, something he can’t admit to the woman he tries to get to surrender. A secret so deep it would upend her life if she found out too soon. He’s almost reached his goal, and then she gets a letter she was not meant to read. Suddenly, secrets get a completely new meaning.“
- Captured by Jasinda Wilder <— standalone book and WOW this sounds SOOOOO good. Heartwrenching. “I married a Marine. I knew the risks. Every time my husband shipped out, I knew there was a chance he wouldn’t come back. But Thomas always did. Always. Then one day two officers in full dress uniform knocked on my door and shattered my world. How do you keep going when you lose what made life worth living?” <— HOLY MOLY!
- Tempting Her Best Friend (A What Happens in Vegas Novel) (Entangled Lovestruck) by Gina Maxwell
Started Ugly Love. So far it’s really good. It’s interesting how it’s written. Tate’s POV chapters are written in the traditional paragraph form, while Miles’ POV chapters are in a different format. Maybe like Mile’s one description: She’s like poetry. Like prose and love letters and lyrics cascading down the center of a page. 😉
Okay that sounds cool…
Way too many to pick from but I think I’m going to start with Cara McKenna’s new book first. I did the audible for Jane’s Harmony and I loved it. Better than JM for me.
Good to know, Shenita. It sounds like it has tons of romantic-angst-potential (but realistic angst) you know?
My Skylar by Penelope Ward and Allure by Lacey Wetherford is on also on sale.
Ha! I’m not the only one bouncing in my seat! Good lord, this is like a multi-bookgasmic day!!! 😀 Ugly Love and then Opposition and then maybe Offside or Lay It Down, ’cause I need something to hold me over until SOA next month!! *giggling and running away from Book Dom*
Oh, and I finished True Diary of That Girl last night. I’m just gonna say that a better title would be Fifty Shades of What the F&%# because that’s what I kept thinking for the majority of it. It’s not bad at all, it’s just…let’s just say I had a headache last night, and this only made my head hurt worse trying to process everything going on. 😉
I did not have a headache last night – I had fifteen-year-old-girl-like swoons – I am crushing big time on Logan in Reed Brothers #1. It reminds me so far of Finding Home (in that he takes a homeless girl home with him); Making Faces (because the hero thinks he is flawed) and Left Drowning (theres a secret that will have to come out). And it is just so easy to read. No fluffy language. And the brothers… oh the brothers – you like them right away. So glad that they get their own stories because I instantly connected with a couple of them too. And I love who is playing him in my head (because I have a set number of guys for my male leads!) – he’s a mix of Rhage and Jamie Frasier and Chris Hemsworth – oh swoon like a loon. Highly recommend, Maryse! I’ll let you know how it all turns out.
Uh… I don’t know where to start, honestly. Read Ugly Love first so I know how good it is. I’m probably going to read The Rocker Who Wants Me next. I didn’t realize with everything else that came out last week, that that one came out too.
I knew this was going to be bad, but it’s really , really bad. I I’m afraid to start one clicking because I won’t be able to stop.
I think Maryse keeps adding to the list, because every time I check in it looks more ominous than the last time. I keep telling myself am not going to read the list. I need summer to be over so I can actually get something else done besides reading this blog and every book someone *squees* over! But it’s. so. much. fun…..
Not reading the list until I finish Ugly Love, because I know I am going to be overwhelmed with choices and one-clicking like crazy!
The Life (The Russian Guns Pt2) by Bethany-Kris is out! Sequel to The Arrangement, the story of Anton, a 27yr old Russian mob boss & his arranged marriage to Vivianna (Vine), an Italian mob boss’s daughter. Excellent love story!!! Anton is HOT!
Wicked Innocence by Missy Johnson came out this week. It’s really good! It’s a rock n roll/ forbidden romance book.
So far I got Offside, Consumed, Unmaking Hunter Kenney, and Opposition I’d already pre-ordered.
I haven’t even made it to the PNR yet where there are several I want.
Yikes, what a list.
LOL MichelleS! I haven’t added any to the list today (was gone for the whole day) but I’m back home now.
Ahahaaaaa!!! <--- wicked laugh... Lemme check what I might have missed... 😉
And YAY for the “Reed brother” rec. Sounds perfect for me!
The only one I added this week is Offside. Enjoying Six of Hearts and trying to keep myself from reading the end of Gone Girl. Have somehow stayed spoiler free.
So, Maryse is your next book going to be off your tbr or one of these new ones?
Michelle, is that Tall, Tatted and Tempting? I went to one-click it because it’s free, and apparently I *paid* for it a while ago. *pouting* Is it a must-read-now or a should-read-soon? You can answer whenever you’re finished swooning. 😉 And Fabi, you’ll find no judgement here! 😀
Oooooh, you guys! Check out the blurb for Wicked Innocence. *squealing* Thank you, Shelby, for that recommendation!!
Yes, Amy, it is “Tall, Tatted and Tempting”. I thought it was going to be a complete story – and each book would be another brother, but, the next book is their story continued because it ended unresolved. So it’s a multiple book commitment (dang it). I really, really liked the book, though. There are some surprisingly touching and tender moments, and all the characters are so easy to like. Something about it connected with me. I’m going to squirrel and read “Lay it Down” before I move to Reed Brothers #2. But it’s still a definite read for me. I like it when I fall hard for a guy in a book, and I did fall for Logan.
Amy – you are *squealing* about Wicked Innocence, which means you MAY like stories about young, nearly jail-bait cray-cray-crazy girls who get involved with older men???? Yes? Did you read Wild Side? Seriously…. have a fire extinguisher and a gag close by because it is so so hot and wicked funny in parts (his inner dialogue trying to talk himself out of being attracted to her). I “Dair” you to read the sample. You’ll buy the book. OOH – I just checked and it’s LOANABLE for Kindle…… are you tempted?
Lani Lynn Vale’s 5th Freebirds book Texas Tornando, and Audrey Carlan’s 3rd in her falling series, Justice Falling, came out a few days ago. I really like both series, and these were great additions.
Tessa, I didn’t know The Rocker Who Wants Me was out! Thanks for that info! Love that series!
Wicked Innocence just had to go on my wish list. I can’t keep buying until I read some of these great ones in my TBR and on today’s list. But it sounds too good to pass up so you’ll be hearing me squeeling soon. I just started Opposition. Can’t wait any longer to read it. Lux is such a great series.
I think Karina Halle’s Dust to Dust comes out next week or in a few weeks. Can’t wait; but can’t believe it’s the end of Dex and Perry. Well, hopefully not the actual end of them… Karina wouldn’t do that:). Going to dive head first into Ugly Love. I hope it lives up to all of my expectations. I want this to another slam-dunk.
Oh, btw, I read Rogue. I liked it. Maybe not as good as Real but that was one of the greats right?
I’m reading Ugly!!
I’m reading Lay it Down – trusting that Cara Mckenna will deliver…
I *do* like those kind of books, Michelle! Okay, I just one-clicked it. 😀 You should know better than to “Dair” me to do something! *snicker* But the cover gave me some serious flashbacks to my early 20’s. *shudder*
I don’t know about you ladies, but I’m lovin’ Ugly Love so far!
The covers ARE funky, aren’t they? It was one of my favorite reads this summer: under dirty-wicked reads. I am liking “Lay it Down”. Not loving it, but liking it. I’m only about 20% in. Lots of small town murder mystery going on – not so much sexy-shmexy.
I read Ugly Love last night … and I mean NIGHT as I couldn’t stop and kept reading until the end, which was pretty late considering I am up for work now – ugh….
But it was Sooooo good, and right now I regret that I read it all yesterday. I wish I could come home from work today, cuddle up in the sofa and disappear into Tate and Miles’ world again. However I am sure they will stay in my head for the entire day as it was a really intense read 🙂
Loved Wild Side series too!!! Dair omg totally had my heart. Reed brothers series was totally delicious series too. Leaving for beach Saturday. Struggling with what I want to sink my teeth into. Read Rogue, Lead and How I Became Lotus Raine last weekend. ALL were really really good. I’m so happy!!! Read Dair guys. Only disappointment is it had to end!!!Xoxo
I just found this great site the other day and am loving all the recommendations and conversations! Based on comments here, I bought “Lay it Down” and started last night. So far, so good.
I gotta read Dair! You guys are making me squirrel.
‘Cept I’m loving Ugly Love to so I’m nice and focused on that one… 🙂
P.S. A BIG welcome to all of you that have just joined us, or come out of the “woodwork”!! 🙂
You’ll love our discussions. We’ve got a great group here!
Pia, I know! 🙂 Ugly Love is so well written and so intense. Miles is exactly the kind of brooding I love…
I just read Precarious and I loved it! I read a lot of books in the MC genre, but there were a lot of features to this one that had me more engaged than usual. The main female character is completely awesome in every way. I don’t think it is possible not to love her. There is a ton of adventure, corruption, and some wicked hot sexy times. It really stood out to me in a genre that I obviously enjoy, but where I find a lot of repetitive themes and concepts. Highly recommend!
Agreed, Linda, the only downside to Wild Side / Dair was that it was too short. I could have read what he had to say all day long. Never got old! Have fun at the beach – best beach read for me was “On the Island” a couple of years ago. Will never forget it.
OOH, Anna, is that the one by Bella Jewel where she is a prison guard and he’s the new psycho murderer, MC club hottie? I must be deranged, because that sounds delicious in a totally psycho way! Was it believable that some hot girl would be a guard at a men’s maximum security prison? Because you know that would never happen? (As if realism is a requirement for me!! ). Tell me it’s a stand alone.
I love your Blog Mayra, so many great recommendation I have picked from here for last few months but I am well behind you guys in reading and still catching up on old classics putting all the new recommendations on TBR, you can imagine how vast my to be read list is and my all time favourite book is Beautiful Disaster, all thanks to you. Love even more to come here and read what everyone is chatting about all the other books girls have read and really liked, more bargain which you missed, eyeshadow and nail polish shades. Can’t wait to read Ugly Love just waiting for a day off from work as I know once I start I won’t be able to put it down.
Sorry I’m late, but you’re welcome Jean! Finished it already and really liked it. Nome are as good as the first, but as good as the fourth. One character was introduced that promises to have a book just as good.
Now for Opposition!
Maryse, I am reading The Mighty Storm based on your recommendation on what to read after Thoughtless. I am loving it. So many new ones to add to my list. I also feel I have so much catching up to do with all of these great books. I need sleep and a new pair of eyes!
Hi girls! I’m still around! I am “slow reading” After Hours….I don’t want my time with Kelly to end! This book is great and since I went in blind, I really DID NOT expect the dominant sexual male that Kelly is revealing himself to be! Yummy!!!
Want too read Ugly Love, continue with the Rocker series by Terri Anne Browning, get back to Fae Chronicles, Precarious, and MichelleS has me wanting to start The Wild Side series so bad!! And the Reed series too which I bought already!
Tall, Tatted and Tempting…. Yep I downloaded that one a while ago too Amy and have heard awesome things about it!!!!
I’m loving Ugly Love. At about 65%…just having to start and stop too much because have a house full of family visiting. Wish Tate would have more of a backbone, but Miles just draws you in with his “damaged” self. I know why it’s called Ugly Love- because I’m pretty sure I will be “ugly” crying by the end. 🙁
I had a new release come out yesterday too. 🙂
Kill Devil Hills
And I can’t want to get started on Ugly Love!!! <3
Any Immortals After Dark fans going to read the new one Dark Skye? The last one I liked was #11 (Regin and her berserker!!!). Not so much with Lothaire and McRieve. And it’s 10.99 for Kindle. Hmmmm…. will wait to see what the reviewers say. May have to wait for library book! Any takers?
Arrrrrgh! Now Michelle and Linda have me wanting to read *both* the Wild Side series and the Reed Brothers, and I still have Opposition waiting for me! And NOW Linda has me intrigued with Precarious. I’m behind, too, on the Rocker series!
Jean! We have so many of the same books waiting for us…I think we need some accountability reading here! *snort* Yeah, that sounded better in my head.
And I know what you mean, Cheryl. I’m thinking Ugly Love is going to hurt something ugly. I’m bracing myself…
Michelle, I haven’t read the Immortals After Dark series but have heard realllllllly good things about it, as in actually-worth-the-money good. 😉
Oh, and *big hugs* to the all the new ladies! 😀 And of course *hugs* to all of the regular recipients of my twisted mind. 😉 Or should I say my “reputation.” *eyeballing Jean*
Amy – LOL!!! For me… I’d pick “Wild Side” as a read-it-now, “Reed Brothers” as a read-it-soon. I’m not caught up enough to read Opposition (don’t see that happening in my near future). Both Wicked Innocence and Precarious have my interest piqued. I’m going to finish Lay it Down, then Ugly Love… after that… SQUIRREL…. 🙂
(depending on your mood: Wild Side is a crazy-sex-fest with fantastic dialogue and you love the characters…. Reed Bros#1 has that guy you fall in love with: lost his hearing at 13, won’t speak to anyone, still manages to be an alpha hottie tattoo artist who takes a homeless girl home with him)
Michelle, I’m an Immortals After Dark fan myself. But I just have too much on my TBR right now. I’m not even sure I’m caught up with that series.
Your comment about the character who lost his hearing reminds me of one I read a month or two ago. It was about a deaf guitar player. OMG was so incredible. I can’t believe I don’t remember the title. Anyone remember that one?
Fabi – the deaf guitar player is Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. Great book! Just finished Ugly Love, loved it as well.
OH MAN! I never read “Maybe Someday” – I need to add that one too? You guys are killing me. What first by Ms Hoover? Someday or Ugly?
*gasp* Michelle! First the yuck comment to Nutella in a drink (that was you, right?) and now not seeing the Lux series in your near future…them’s all fightin’ words! 😛
Oh, oh, oh! I know what book that is Fabi…but it will totally spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet because that’s a big twist or reveal or whatever in that book, ya know? Trying to think of a way to jog your memory on the title…
Okay…never mind, lol!
Michelle, I’m about 60% into Ugly Love and loving it, but Maybe Someday was just remarkably beautiful. I’d say you can’t lose with either one. 😉
That was the spoiler? Is it going to ruin the experience?? And the yuck to Nutella was only as a substitute ingredient for your yummy cocktail that asked for hazelnut liqueur… I was saying that’s all I had at home. I’m sure Nutella on anything would be good (I know where your mind went just now!). I want to read Lux… But is have to stop reading something else & you guys keep suggesting good ones!
What the heck, I never read Maybe Someday either! Spoiler ruin it??
Amy I want to read The Wild Side and Reed….I am sending my book dom over to MichelleS for making me crazy!!!!
MichelleS, you really have to watch how you word things to Amy…. she gets a little out of hand sometimes! Lol!

Okay, I put that there just to be safe for those who like to go in as blind as possible. That part about him is not really a spoiler per se, and you find out about it not too far into the book, but it is a big reveal that lays the groundwork for the rest of the story. It’s just one of those things that is best experienced without knowing about it beforehand, but the book is not ruined by knowing it. But you guys really *should* read it!
That’s great Amy! OK ii will add it to my ever growing list. The only Colleen Hoover book I’ve read is Slammed (because you and Maryse made me)!
Yeah, okay, you guys want to go there? ‘Cause I’ll go there, and you know where *there* is! *snicker* Nutella is good on anything. ANY-thing. 😛 I’m talking about food! Why? What did you think I was talking about? 😉
*hears knocking on door* 80 Um, Jean? You sure you didn’t send your Book Dom over here by mistake? *hiding behind couch*
*should have been 😯
Yeah, I’m awesome like that. *snort*
Michelle, I’m reading that right after opposition. Then, after Immortal, Blood Games. I don’t know if I should be thrilled or overwhelmed. Oh, and got Pandora, because why not for 99 cents?
*giggle* You should be both, Tessa. 😉
So it WAS a spoiler? Should I still read it? Will it affect the way it reads? And what the bleep-bleep-bleep is a book Dom anyhoo? And Pandora? Now what…. where is that one?….. I’m going to need Nutella, salami and queen of the fairies tonight to keep from squirreling…
@ Michelle I don’t think it ruins anything. it was a twist but was revealed in first part of the book. And the book has a couple more. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it because it is not a story type I’m usually interested in
It is stand alone but I would not mind a sequel.
Exactly. It is a great twist to experience, but knowing about it won’t ruin the book. It is not the *main* focus of the book; however, it does add a more intense level of character and story development.
Speaking of Colleen Hoover’s books, I’m freaking out with anxiety, elatedness, trepidation, hopefulness, dread…my heart hurts, my tummy is clenched…Michelle, please share the salami, Nutella and martinis! I need a manatee snuggle. Maryse, you need one yet? Michelle will be bringing the food and drinks. 😉
No way. No freaking, flipping way!! *jumping up and down and squealing*
https://www.celtnet.org.uk/recipes/miscellaneous/mobile.php?rid=misc-manatee-melon-martini
That’s the book! Oh man, stayed with me. Ya know? Not a spoiler. Just an early twist like others have said. Didn’t know how else to describe the book without giving more away. So are you guys saying Ugly Love is by the same author? Cause I’ve read both of the ones mentioned above and both were great.
I just checked my library out of curiosity and realized I’ve read 5 of her books. AND I loved every one. Ugly Love – I come.
Michelle I checked to see if I could loan it to you but the only one of hers available for loan is Hopeless. Assuming you’ve read that one already? It’s NA or even YA. But great in the genre.
Now I’m crying big fat alligator tears. Why? Because I’m so stupid. I just checked Amazon and Ugly Love has an average rating from 235 people of 5 stars!
I know some of you are reading it already. I have to finish Oppossition first. Love me some sci fi. But it’ll give me a chance to hear more reviews from you guys. I thought y’all were sounding lukewarm about it at first. Still?
Michelle the one you keep talking about, is it The Wild Side by Mary Ellen Quigley?
Pandora is under new paranormal. It’s an anthology and the price made it worth it. And ugh, I have to get ugly love too. I’ve liked her stuff so far too much not to.
Fabi – no, Wilde Side is by RK Liley, who wrote Grounded series and Tristan and Danika series. I have read Slammer 1 and 2 (I loved Slammed so so much) and Hopeless… so I am thinking if this is the same author, then it should be good. So I bought it. Reading it next (Ugly Love). I don’t know why I skipped Maybe Someday. But I am definitely reading it now. And, just so you know, Wild Side is three novellas, so it really reads like one normal book. It makes it pricey – but – it is LOANABLE and I have your email address (heehee). So if you feel in the mood for it, let me know. It’s so wicked!
Amy….. Amy…. Amy…. Amy….. you are NOT going to believe what I found to go with your martini….. OMG…. so freaking funny…… this is what I am bringing….
https://english.salvatorecuomo.com/Recipes/Nutella%20-%20Nutella%20Salami.html
Oh ok. That’s the one with the age diff. I’d love to borrow it if it’s lendable. But I gotta finish Oppossition first and probably Ugly Love. Or maybe I’ll do that one right after Oppossition since you’ve been talking about it a lot and have me intrigued.
That looks sinfully delish!
OMG Michelle!!! I am laughing so hard right now because that is absolutely perfect for this thread! 😀
Seriously, Fabi and Michelle and Jean and anyone else who hasn’t read them yet, you guys have to read Maybe Someday and Ugly Love (I’m finishing UL tonight). I *rarely* say that about books, but those two definitely warrant saying it!!
“Ugly Love – I come”
*snicker* Oh, do you now, Fabi? 😛
Amy I just knew you’d say something. I was going to explain that I meant to write “here I come” but figured it would only make it worse with you. I think you’re the only one I’ve ever heard (read) with her mind in the gutter as often as mine is. Sista luv. Lol
I read Maybe Someday. It was so incredible. Are you saying Ugly Love is as good? This author is kicka$$.
90% done with Ugly Love and I’m loving it. I’m having a hard time finishing it, because I want to read slowly and savor it, but a the same time I want to know how it ends. *sigh*
Maryse? *sniff-sob-sniff* I finished Ugly Love. *snifff* I need a manatee snuggle. *sniff* Badly. *sniff-snort* (I actually do that sometimes when I am crying…it is as gross as it sounds).
Ladies…ladies!! You’ve got to read Ugly Love. That woman has a gift. She took my heart and pummeled the sh!t out of it and then bandaged it up and nursed it back to health. Believe me, it left some scars…but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Ugly Love. Ugly hurt. Ugly cry. Beautiful story.
I’m not looking at that cover yet, though. Not anytime soon. Nope. Nuh-uh. Not doing it. Still hurts too much. I love what her books do to me. 😉
Reading (or listening) to ‘Ugly love’ audiobook. Like it so far. Love the cover, I prefer it to the one with the couple on the front.
I need to read the new book by Shay Savage, she hooked me with Transcendence and I went on to read ‘Surviving Raine’ (also was encouraged by Maryse’s review)
Too many books to read, so little time.
Amy I know what you mean. I just finished Ugly Love too. So many emotions. I read it s-l-o-w-l-y, sometimes re-reading paragraphs; I just FELT so much the entire time I was reading this beautifully written story.
I knew when I first saw it that the cover was going to be significant, and OMG was it!!! *crying…again* Can I borrow your manatee?
Amy I liked your “bandaged and nursed” description, since Tate was a nurse. *clever girl!
Of course, Cheryl, but the manatee and me are a package deal so you have to snuggle with *me* as well right now! *snuggling with Cheryl and my manatee*
How the heck am I supposed to sleep now when I can’t breathe through my nose? *sniff*
Your comments. Now I’m dying.
OMG you guys are the awesomest awesome ladies. Just received a loan in my email but can’t reply thank you cause I don’t have your email address. So send me a quick note so I can reply.
Amy I’m scared to read Ugly Love now! Sounds like one that will give me pains in my stomach!
I’m with you, Jean. I’m not sure I’m in the right mood for a painful, sobbing, cryfest kind of book. You guys are scaring me. But, I used my amazon points and bought it, so I will read it… maybe just not next? This is winter reading material!! Maybe I’ll go with Immortals After Dark latest release after all….. too warm and pretty for crying today….. it’s blazing hot, actually.
Don’t have any idea what to read now, since recovering from reading Ugly Love. Such a great book. Many choices in above list. Always like a good rock star book, so those look good. Also the new book by Jodi Ellen Malpas makes me think of the This Man Trilogy which I have on my TBR list…hmm maybe that one.
Hope you were able to get to sleep Amy. Snuggling helped me. 😉
Cheryl – I was thinking that one Precrious (MC club) about the prison guard or Wicked Innocence, the rock star one sounded good for a hot, hot day like this. No crying… just bad bad boys of the MC or Rock world!
I just finished Opposition. I can’t believe the Lux series is finished. Like the author herself said, finishing a series is bittersweet.
Don’t be scared, ladies, it’s so worth it! It’s not the kind of book where you will still be a wreck when you’re finished. Promise! It has the perfect amount of angst and the perfect amount of emotion and the perfect amount of cry factor and the perfect amount of healing factor. It’s *not* depressing, and you’re tummy may clench but it won’t hurt. 😉
Okay, I’m stumbling off my soapbox now. Just had to share that because I woke up this morning in a lovely book fog and so happy to have read it! 😀
I just want to say I liked (loved!) Ugly Love more than Maybe Someday. It was GREAT!!!
Mica, wasn’t Transcendence great? Who knew a Neanderthal could make me swoon. 🙂
Fabi, I’m starting Opposition later today! Did you read her Covenant series? It was bittersweet with the last book of that series as well. 😉
Maryse, right? Right?!?!? 😀
Amy- well said. Not a book to be scared of; just runs the gamut of emotions.
Michelle- which rock star book sounded good to you?
I haven’t read her Covenant series. I wish I had taken the time to re-read the Lux series before reading Opposition. I would have if I’d realized it was the last book.
Glad y’all cleared that up about Ugly Love. I think I can handle and even enjoy what you described. Besides, this author is just not to be missed.
I may start it tomorrow. I’m going for Wilde Thing first. 🙂 Ugly Love may have to be a weekend read for me so I don’t walk around like a zombie during the week.
Absolutely!!!! So many times… just in the “things” she said, or thought (or things HE said or thought)… I went through awwwww, to OUCH!!! to WOWWOWW!! to WHOA! Just… OMG amazingly written…an amazing story (actually TWO stories and you’ll want to read BOTH). The occasional switch back and forth, from past to present is perfectly done in this one…
BOTH stories had me hooked.
WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!
OK Amy (and Maryse), you’ve convinced me. Will you share the manatee when needed though?
Amy is very generous with her manatee. 😉
Has anyone read the This Man Trilogy? Reviews seem mixed. Have that one on my TBR list- The new one by same author made me remember I still have that series to read. Debating on something from TBR list or squirreling on one of the many new releases that sound so good! Ugh…
Yes! Being in their *both* of their heads and understanding where each was coming from made it much more…bearable, I guess? At least for me. And the timings of the past and present switches were perfect. Wow, I am seriously fangirling here. I can’t help it! 😀
Manatee snuggles are the bestest…I gotta share the love! Jean, I’ll be ready and waiting with Manny to snuggle ya. 😉
Alright, I *have* to get my work done so I can start Opposition. You ladies are just so much fun that it’s hard to stay away!!
Cheryl, I have This Man but haven’t read it yet. Looks good to me. 🙂 Let me know what you think of it if you read it.
Cheryl and Amy, I LOVED the This Man series! One of my favorites! And it gives you the introduction to Tristan and Danika which is an even better spinoff series!
Thanks for sharing the manatee… I know I will need it! Hey, have we named the manatee yet? (This should be good….. Can’t wait to hear Amy’s name suggestions.. Lol)!!!!!
This Man Series is one of my favorites. Jesse Ward has always stayed with me right up there with Christian, Gideon and Kellan. Oh and Colton and Tristan and Dair!!! Well you get the idea!! Promise you will NOT be disappointed. Unput downable!!! Did I mention Jesse Ward. HAWT intense and dirty mouth alpha. Gotcha intrigued right!!!!????
Yes Linda….. Jesse Ward is right up there with the others… Love him!
Jean, wasn’t the intro to Tristan and Danika the In Flight series? Either way, This Man is moving up on my list.
Oh, and my manatee’s name is Manny. Get it? Manny the manatee? *giggle* See, *my* manatee is soft and cuddly and snuggable when we need some comfort, but Matt’s manatee (from Night Owl) gives a different kind of lovin’. And it’s not the “soft” and cuddly type of lovin’. 😛
Oh s%&t, you are right Amy. I am confusing my series! But This Man Trilogy SO WORTH READING!! I forgot it was Manny… what was I thinking? Obviously not thinking very clearly today!!! Consumed by all these books I need to read!
I am trying to work and keep getting sidetracked by comments on this blog!
I loved the This Man series. You need to read it. It’s one of my favorite series ever.
Thanks for all the comments on This Man trilogy. That’s what I’m reading next. And a bonus it’s on my TBR list so my book dom can back-off and cuddle with his stuffed squirrel!! Yeh!!!!!
All the “This Man” talk and mention of Jesse Ward tickled my brain – and sure enough – there they are on my Kindle – all three books. I got halfway through the second book, apparently. It’s been a year, so I forgot! I remember the general premise now. Didn’t grab me, apparently! Maybe I’ll revisit it someday.
Cheryl – it was the one called Wicked Innocence. Someone else mentioned it, I looked it up, and it sounded good from the blurb. I downloaded the sample, just haven’t read it yet. It’s on my to do list for today!
Wait, I thought Tristan and Damika came out of the Up in the Air series? Grounded, or whatever it was called? By the same author as “Wild Side” – you know that delicious little dittie I’ve been swooning over? Out of those three series, Wild Side is my favorite by far! FAR FAR…. as in, I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon….. Dair…. oh Dair…… he’s that guy you wish was your neighbor so you could interact with him regularly, watch him from afar, but he’s so way out of your league you wouldn’t want to “be” with him, you know? So reading about him becoming UNGLUED by a little ole’ jail-bait girly girl is delicious. Am I talking too much about this book?
Amy, yes I agree, I love Ehd, he is the ultimate alpha male. I really loved Transcendence. For weeks I kept seeing that cover everywhere and I thought ‘I’m not reading a story about a cave man’, then I read a couple glowing reviews and now it is my favourite book of 2014.
It did MichelleS…..I messed up!
Cheryl I have the first two of the This Man series downloaded and never read. And yesterday got a very definite and enthusiastic push to read it. Scares me cause supposed to be crazy.
I’ve done the same thing, Michelle. I’ll think a book’s blurb looks good and then find out I actually read it but just don’t remember. And nope, you’re not talking about Wild Side too much. Hey, just look at how much I’m gushing over Ugly Love! No such thing as talking about a book too much around here. 😉
*perking up* Wait, did you say crazy, Bev? Woo-hoo! I’m all over that! Annnnnnd here comes the peanut gallery…which seems to have grown lately. 😛
Yes extremely crazy and angsty. Usually want those in small dose but you I am thinking of moving these up. I think I may start tonight or tomorrow. I really want to get to some of these books just sitting on my ereader and I saw a good review of her latest. That her writing had improved and that it was different characters not just you the same type with different names. Anyway the new one caught my eye but I want to stop just one clicking if I have unread books by the same author already.
I am a little nervous as I am slightly spoiled and know that it will be a rollercoaster ride. May be fun though.
Yikes- crazy, angsty?! I feel tummy clenching coming on!!! And on that note, I expect a comment from Amy… *throws peanuts back*
This Man series has LOTS of angst? Yes. LOTS of domineering crazy alpha male? That would be a hell yes. LOTS of steam? Another hell yes BUT trust me with each book it all comes together and WILL make sense. There’s also some much needed comic relief too!!! Don’t give up on Jesse Ward.
*ducking from peanuts* 😛 You know it’s not the potential angst making your tummy clench – it’s the sexy time you’re hoping for that’s getting you all hot and bothered!! *Pblttttt*
*running away giggling and ducking*
Holy Wow…… the Ugly Love Thread is up to 402 comments….. I am behind the 8 ball, as usual…. I picked Lay it Down when I should have picked Ugly Love. So…. I start tonight.
Fabi – how’s Wild Side treating you? Can’t wait to hear how you liked it, or if I’m crazy. Let’s do Ugly Love together, since we are the last two on earth, apparently….
Michelle, I really liked Wild Side. I want more. 🙂
I bought Ugly Love today so I’ll start it tomorrow.
Michelle, the Ugly Love book review post also has a giveaway in it. Not sure if every poster there has read UL yet, but even if it didn’t have a giveaway it would still warrant that amount of comments! I’m excited to see what you guys think about it.
I’m reading Opposition and then either Wild Side or This Man. Or was it Wicked Innocence? Or that prison guard-MC one…what was the name of that one again? Crap, I really do need my freaking Book Dom, don’t I? *face in hands*
Amy, so true, so true.
*skipping away with smile on face*
I’m at 52% with Ugly Love. Wow. I haven’t figured anything out yet, not reading any comments for fear of spoilers, have lots of ideas where it’s going…. really liking it so far. Did you start it Fabi, or did you go for Wild Side #3?
Amy – I think the prison guard / MC one was called Precarious? I’m going for that next, I think…. don’t think I could do Colleen Hoover back to back (still need to read Maybe Someday)… that might just gut me.
Started This Man. Only at 5% but bed time. Ava(h) has met the Jesse The Lord of the Manor (H). Looks like it is a long book. Some of the descriptive words finding odd but do paint a picture and maybe a little choppy. I believe it is a first book. But already a little intrigued and think might be an absorbing weekend read.
I had to read present perfect after the blurb and your review — good read! Definitely agree with your review & rating. Thanks for the recommendation! Ok, now onto one of these new releases…
Hmmm. Present Perfect does sound good. Have to add that to my TBR list. Interesting- cover now is different from the cover from your review.
So far, enjoying This Man. Agree writing is a little choppy and can tell the author is English by phrases and words she uses. Have a feeling it’s going to be a hot, angst-filled, roller-coaster ride!! 😉
Cheryl – I remember when I bought This Man and then abandoned it and my friend, who borrowed my Kindle was shocked I didn’t buy the third book – so I had to buy it so she could finish – but you know what? I never finished that series. It just wasn’t an easy read… I don’t know what it was… but even all the sex got old after a while… I couldn’t figure out where it was going and stopped caring. Okay everybody – shoot me now – because everyone else seems to love it. Anxious to see what you end up thinking of it. I got about halfway through book 2…
That was it, Michelle. Thanks!
