Finished Facade ( Deception book 1) by D.H. Sidebottom and Ker Dukey a minute ago dark read, “umputdawnable” , oh boy! Read it Marise, reaaaaad it! Can’t wait to start to read Cadence ( Deception book 2).
WOW what a list today!!!
Side note – a couple of my favorite books won the Goodreads readers choice award this year. That justvtickled me. π always good to know I’m not the only one who loved them
Great list!! I’m thinking of getting Once Upon A Time(Fairy Tales Are For Morons) by S.K. Hartley and maybe Debt by Nina G. Jones!! Anyone read these????
Omg too many books today! But I am dancing around like an idiot over The Rocker Who Shatters Me and Zip, Zilch, Zero…. love both of these series so much!
Lia, I downloaded Facade the other day…. moving it up on my list based on your comments!
Oh and I immediately 1 clicked Shatter Me and Little Black Book!!! Thanks for all your hard work Maryse! I look so forward to your lists every Tuesday and Friday…. but my wallet doesn’t! Lol!!!
LOL!!! My pleasure my Jean!!
I need to start The Rocker series and the Reed Brothers so badly!!!
Yes you do!!!!!!
been wanting to read the Kathleen Turner Series – so click click click there…
Rosemary beach… book 9? whoa, I am behind…. this one sounds yummy
Facade – worth the read…. but I am downgrading to a 4 – wanted it to go somewhere else –
Having now read Roam I am reminded what a true 5 star read is for me, that’s I I downgraded FaCade…. because in case you haven’t figured it out ROAM is da bomb!!!! I’m on book two – called FALL and loving it just as much.
Roam? I have to check that out!
Jean – where have you been? did you not read my lengthy rants on the other thread? LOL…. sorry everyone. It must be the holiday cheer that is making me book drunk….
I don’t know how I missed your rant! But i did check it out and it looks intriguing!
Just finished In Bloom (Tessa’s rec). It was a sweet, funny, minimal angst story. The only bad part is it is #1 in a trilogy and # 2 is not coming out until early next year. At least it didn’t end on a cliffhanger!!
Now what? Several on the list today look good. I do love a good sports or rock start book. Thanks Marsye!! π
Damn auto correct- start=star
‘Once upon a time’ is a great book with realistic characters. I really enjoyed liked this one.
The time travel book looks good..Thank you Maryse!
MichelleS, I looked at the Roam series, because I was really intrigued by your comments/rec. I found: ROAM (Book One),FALL ( Book Two),RISE ( Book Three),RUSH (Book Four),RULE (Book Five),WEST (Novella),REIGN (Book Six). Not sure but on the authors website said series was being re-released this month.
Cheryl – good to know because it is definitely my style of writing and story. I am in the middle of book two now. They were both fairly cheap for kindle.
Jean, I became attached from the first line, you will love it, will don’t stop till the end.
Marise, thanks for the list so many good books!
Roam…? Have to check this.
Is Once Upon a Time a standalone?
Nevermind found this about Once upon a Time- standalone, no cliffhanger, Rom-Com with a twist.
I need to try Roam. Looks good. I’m looking for a mind twist book like Debt Inheritance was. Something that makes you wonder what’s going on. Any suggestions?
Fabi and I are doing a Roam buddy read if anyone else wants to join in π
If any of you are caught up on the Rosemary Beach series and are familiar with the whole Bethy-Jace-Tripp situation, then you know why You Were Mine is gonna hurt. *sigh* Just the title makes my heart clench.
Anyone else want to join me in sticking my head in the sand and pretending that I didn’t spend an absolutely ridiculous amount of money on one-clicks over the past week? Come on ladies…ignorance is bliss and I’m a whole lotta blissful right now!! π
Oh fantastic Fabi & Michelle. I am almost finished with book two. It just keeps getting better. It just doesn’t stop with the angst. I can’t take it anymore. What else can possibly happen? Where’s Amy? This is totally up her alley. I may re-read it just to experience it all again. (Don’t judge Roam too much for all her bawling… I’d be a sobbing mess too if I were her… the only, and I mean only criticism I have and I even talk myself out of that).
Believe me, MichelleS…you’ve sold me on Roam. π
Sooooo many great books to one-click! I’m with Amy – my heart aches & I haven’t even started You Were Mine yet. I just know it’s going to make me cry! I did read The Rocker Who Shatters Me already & loved it. I’m a big fan of the series. Forever With Me was amazing too!!! I also grabbed a couple I didn’t see on the list – Dirty Secret by Emma Hart and Crying Wolf by Rochelle Paige
Amy, my head is so firmly buried in the sand, I can’t decide which book to read next! I’m not caught up on the Rosemary beach series and I’m not sure I want to start a long series like Roam right now. (It does sound really good, though). Hmmm….
Easy virtue by Mia asher comes out today! Just from the blurbs it is going to be HOT!!!
I finished FALL (Roam series book 2).So so good. But, sadly, it is a series and it definitely did NOT get resolved in book two. So now I eagerly await book 3, because it isn’t available an amazon. Anyone know where I can get it?
I spoke too soon!!! I just checked amazon and they were all there! So I quickly bought books 3-6. Happy Birthday to me. They are 2.99 each, so not too bad for a series I have now fallen in love with. It looks like their story does resolve and later books are about other characters…. I think….
So don’t shy away because it’s a series. π
Good to hear the series is available MichelleS. I’m at 23% so haven’t really gotten into the story yet but I’m intrigued.
I didn’t get too far into it either last night Fabi only 8%. It took me longer than expected to finish my other read.
MichelleS I absolutely loved the Kathleen Turner series. It’s nonstop action, drama, mystery and romance (with the best love triangle!) start to finish. I read all of them in a few sittings.
I am finishing up the Dark Light series and am loving the 3rd book. I am also burying my head in the sand over how many books I have bought over the last week. Now I am intrigued by Roam.
MichelleS – I also agree about the Kathleen Turner series. It did start a little slow for me but each one got better and better.
Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one buying lots of books this past week….. makes me feel better to have company! Haha!
I only read the first 2 Turner books… guess I should have continued!
And as much as I want too start Roam, there are just too many others waiting in line for me to read! Ugh! What a horrible problem to have!
Yay! It’s a head-in-the-sand party!! π
I’m with ya, Tracy. Light Shadows is making up for all of the turmoil caused by The Dark Prince…at least so far it is. π
Okay, off topic but…Sons of Anarchy! Holy crap! It’s not unexpected but still hard to watch and stomach. I think I’m gonna need a good MC book after next week’s series finale. I better start digging around in the MC collection on my Kindle app…
Jean, don’t ya love having that kind of problem? *giggle*
I think I am going to read the Nikolai novella. I am torn between Dorian and Nikolai. Sort of like Blane and Kade.
Tiffany I can’t find Easy Virtue on Amazon! Did it definitely come out today… been waiting for it!
Amy I want to read an awesome MC book as well. Let me know which one you pick I will read it too.
Easy Virtue is available on Amazon! I loved, loved, LOVED Arsen, and the blurb for this one looks promising. π
Shell, sounds good. Do you prefer an easier-to-read MC book or are you okay with the gritty, graphic, kick-your-a$$ kind of MC reads?
Cheryl, wanna start Unlit Star or Ten Below Zero? I was thinking I would start one of those two after I finish Light Shadows…
Jean: it’s live on nook and iBooks. Amazon is making us all wait very impatiently! It is def out today though and it’s gonna rock! All fans of arsen should check this out. And anyone into steamy amazing writing should too!
What was I thinking – I read Kathleen Turner series – TEAM KADE!!! What an idiot – I blame my alzheimer’s…. I read them all except Blane’s story.
Amy – MC mood? Did you read Lights of Peril series? Nordic Lords?
You know, I realize now that it’s all about the timing with these books, if I am in a certain mood and something hits the spot, I am giddy…. but if I am not in the mood for that, then “meh”… I am betting a bunch of my previous reads that I LOVED wouldn’t rate so high right now… which could explain why I am over the moon about Roam series and others might not be as impressed.
Thanks Tiffany! I just got it!
Michelle S I think mood has a lot to do with it. Tons of books I’ll put down and then go back to months later and love it that time around. Plus we just have our own little likes. I just read a western romance and was totally immersed in it. It was a little slow moving and not a lot of angst but it was perfect to curl up with the weather stormy and quiet mood.
Now I’m reading a kinda classic small town contemporary romance by Jill Shalvis. I’m really liking it but a part of me wants to go back out west, lol.
Exactly, Bev. That’s why I need to start copying and pasting people’s recommendations and then go back and find one when the mood strikes me for that kind of thing. After I devour this series, I know I won’t want a paranormal for a little while, no matter how good – which kind of sucks for me, because KA’s third book in her “Three Series” is coming out shortly!! And why I haven’t finished Book Three in the Dark Light series!! And why I haven’t moved on to book two in The Others series – oh no, wait – that was because it is still so dang expensive!!! And there’s the other reason why some get bumped. I’m a cheapo. π
MichelleS, I didn’t care too much for the Lights of Peril series (I read books 1 and 2) but that probably had to do with my mood. π I think a big part of it though is because I gave up my MC virginity to Madeline Sheehan, and you *know* how deliciously gritty those are. LOP just felt…I dunno…too easygoing, maybe? At least for an MC read. I *do* want to read the Nordic Lords series though, and I have the first book so I’m thinking that will be the one.
Because I know all of you ladies are dying to know what my reading plans are (*snort*), I’m gonna squirrel from my original plan for after Light Shadows and jump into Easy Virtue before hitting up Unlit Star. Although, now I am afraid that I am building EV up too much in my head and expecting the same kick in the gut that Arsen gave me. Oh well, it’s Mia Asher so there’s really nothing to lose with her! π
Oh, MichelleS, when you find one of those books that’s just right, can’t wait to pick up again, and immediately immersed in it is such a great feeling.
The Others is one of the very very few I buy at that price. If they ever become available to loan I’d be happy to.
I just down loaded the Overdrive app to look into library ebooks.
When you do read Unlit Star, report back here (as if we don’t already do that!!!)… because that’s on my TBR list and I haven’t gone there yet.
Amy I’m always curious what you all are reading.:-)
So MM was my first mc book and could read those no problem but MS I need in small doses, lol.
I’m so curious so have to ask. I’m the first book did you like the main characters? I didn’t. I liked the book and read it quick, but was not as invested in them.
MichelleS – just to tuck away in your brain, when you get in the mood for paranormal again the 3rd book in the Dark Light series is excellent. I liked the first two but the third has much more action.
Bev, are you talking about the Lights of Peril series? Yeah, I didn’t feel a whole lot for those characters. Maybe because I was expecting Sheehan-type MC guys and instead they were too sensitive with not enough gruffness and – dare I say – violence to balance it out. *shrug* It’s been a bit since I read the first two books so that’s all I can really think of off the top of my head.
But I *do* think the LOP series is great for those who want a “lighter” MC read. Again, I was probably in a MOOD. π
Amy I was talking of Sheehan. Deuce & Evie?
Oh man that made me laugh. You don’t like them cause they are too nice. Heh, we are so reading opposites.
Ok Amy, you read my mind. After commenting on Easy Virtue, I looked at the blurb and *bam* I’m in. Then I’ll read Unlit Star with you!!
Amy I like really gritty MC books, my favourites are from Sheehan. If I am reading a MC book I don’t want the H to be nice or soft. Do recommend some real gritty MC books.
Living A Beautiful War by Debra Kayn, came out 12-3, It is book 8 and the final one in the Bantorus MC books. I loved this book, had to read it straight though and IMO, the best book I read in 2014
Hmmm… A lighter MC read? I think I need to check out the Lights of Peril series. π
Fabi, are you still reading Roam? Liked this quote from the book: βYou donβt have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.β
Michelle – I am still trucking along with Roam series. I am on the third one, Rise…. heart breaking…. but still keeping my interest!!! yay for me. Are you still reading it?
Then Maryse had to go and put up more new stuff!!! Now I am eyeballing Easy Virtue. I am trying like heck to remember Arsen. I read it and I’ve got nothin’. Weird, huh? Some just bury themselves in my brain….
Shell – Nordic Lords was gritty – I thought – maybe not Sheehan gritty – not sure, I may have gotten over some of my initial shock once I read Sheehan – so nothing much scares me off now (thanks mostly to Fabi and her Krylov recommendations and whoever said to read Tied Man!!)
Michelle, I’m at 63% in Roam. For me it got interesting after 30% and started rockin an rollin after 50%. That quote in the book is attributed to C.S. Lewis. Yes, it’s awesome.
MichelleS, I’m loving Roam. Thanks for the recommendation. It’s so different. Unique storyline. That’s always a nice surprise.
I want 3 of the 4 pre-orders!!! I’m going to freeze my one click finger into an ice cube to try to hold off until they actually come out.
Every time I think I’m making a dent in my tbr I end up with a one click crazy spree like last week and blow all my progress out the window.
Bev, it was kind of weird for me with Deuce and Evie…I liked her and “felt” right along with her, and I wanted her to end up with Deuce even though I wasn’t all that thrilled with him until maybe the second book. Make sense?
Yay Cheryl! I’m just about done with Light Shadows then I wanted to read Easy Virtue and Unlit Star after that. THEN I’ll be ready for an MC read. π
Shell – my MC kindred spirit! – that is awesome to hear. I’m not sure how gritty the Nordic Lords will be, can anyone who has read them give us some input? MichelleS? Ooh, what about the Signal Bend series anyone?
Shelly, Lights of Peril is on the lighter side, so if that is what you’re looking for then I definitely recommend it. π
Yes I finished Roam and thought it was great! Really unique premise and promising start to a series. With that ending I was tempted to jump into the next book and still might soon after I finish a few others. The chemistry between Roam and West was amazing and I liked how they just seemed to not be able to help themselves which lent to the fated vibe I suppose. I did think Roam was a little annoying but the author leaves her room for growth in upcoming books. I just hope the time travel/fantasy aspect does not get too convoluted. Thanks for a wonderful rec MichelleS π
I just finished another paranormal read since I’m on a spree here called Silver by Rhiannon Held that was another unique storyline and a whole new twist on a were/shifter book. I’m going to continue with that series too. My current read now is Dazzle by Amber Garza which is more YA paranormal but looked intriguing.
Yay Amy. I’m just finishing Sweet Possession then I’ll be ready to start Easy Virtue!!! π
Michelle, on our next buddy read remind me to start reading a week before you. Ha! π
Aww Fabi come on you only need to start 3 days early tops not a week π
Have you read Shatter Me (above in post)? I’m eyeing that one for next maybe…
Lol
I haven’t read Shatter Me but the title has me eyeing it over and over. Intriguing.
Rush me is also tempting me as a lighter kind of read. I like reading about athletes.
Oh my god I just read the blurb for Shatter Me (I don’t always read the blurbs) and it sounds sooo good!
Then I peaked at the reviews, and they sound so bad. π
Ah well, after Roam I have to go finish Dark Prince or Amy may never forgive me. I have Less than 30% left on that one and my temper’s cooled off so I can get back to it after I finish Roam.
Michelle – the time travel does NOT get messy – very easy to follow – I can’t give anything away or else it would really spoil it, but believe me, it’s easy to follow once a few pieces fall into place. I just finished book 3 and it was my fave so far. Their story finally gets resolved – now onto the next couple’s story… don’t want to spoil it so I won’t say who (Book 4 – Rush).
Fabi – I only got to about the halfway mark with Light Shadows, but want to go back and finish. I think it was just too long between book releases for me. had it come out sooner, or been available after I read book two – I am sure I would have devoured it.
I haven’t gotten to Light Shadows yet. I had to take a break from Dark Prince because of one of those plot situations where the heroine is written like “I am a girl so I’ll forgive anything you do. Just walk right over me please.” I can’t stand those characters. I don’t have to have a heroine that kicks butt. But I like the strong ones. Like in Beautiful Disaster where she was so smart and strong enough to say enough is enough no matter how difficult it was. Pride, strength, intelligence. I have to have all of that in my heroines otherwise I can’t enjoy reading about them. It’s escape literature after all. π
Whoah! Just finished Roam. Sooo good!
Good to know Fabi! I’ll add it to my neverending list!
Want a strong h Fabi? Hotblooded by Kendell Grey one of my favs of 2014
ooohh thank you Donna. I’m adding it to my wish list.
MichelleS, I bet I know who the next couple is already. π
Ok bev michelleS I’ve finished mercy and omega and just done the dark light series what have I to read next? U guys always give me a good series that I’ve somehow missed!! Lay it on me what’s been missed?!
Wow Laura, I’m honestly going to run out if series to rec & the Michelles will have to keep you supplied. For PNR I really enjoyed the Aisling Grey series by Katie McAlister. I only have read the Aisling ones but plan to some day read the spin offs.
If you like historical I adored Lisa Kleypas Wallflower series especially #3 but you have to read in order to fully appreciate that book.
I’m reading The Year We Fell Down and if it keeps up I think I may just do a glom of the rest of the series. That’s only #2, #2.5 & 3 so not a lot.
Is the wallflower PNR aswell bev? I know I might have just about read the good ones finally!!! Then maryse will have to find us more!! I’ve got loads still on my TBR but they are all pricey so I’m waiting until Xmas for the kindle vouchers!! Lol
Laura, have you read the Mortal Instruments series? How about the Succubus Blues series? That one is fun.
I went back to Dark Prince and I’m all riled up again. I’m at 78% now, but I just don’t like ANY of the characters. I don’t know if I should even try to finish it. Nothing in this plot is going to make me like the characters at this point. The only other book I can think of that I disliked this much was Tied Man.
Sorry to all of you who love this series. But it’s about differing opinions right? We may love many of the same books and then disagree on a one or a few.
I guess the good news is that I’m all set up for a nice long weekend read with a new book. π
Bev I LOVED The Year We Fell Down….. will never forget it. Still need to read the rest of that series though….. I got sidetracked somehow! Lol!
Laura, nope straight up historical romance. Just love for me
The Aisling is pnr. The heroes is dragon shifter & the heroines side kick is a demon who is in the form of a Newfoundland, adore him.
I did enjoy Kelly Armstrong’s series as well. Some more than others. I can’t remember Laura, did you try Written in Red?
Jean it is so good. I think 2.5, novella, might still be free if you haven’t grabbed it.
Thanks bev! I just got it!
No haven’t read that one bev, I might try out the aisling grey ones though, what’s written in red about?
Fabi I’ve just finished the dark light series and book 2 I also felt like banging my head off of the table! I mean tell him I don’t care the reasons if u ***** her u can say bye bye as if u would just sit back and be like ok it’s fine I will still see u argh it annoyed me so much!! But I did stick it out and finish the series and it was good but there are people that get brought more into book 3 and I couldn’t get the connection to them as we didn’t know enough about them I think the should have been introduced in book 2 and she kind of left some explanations out
Thanks Laura. I’m also debating what’s next until Alarm comes out Monday or Tuesday.
Laura – wow! you read all those recently? lucky you!!! what’re you in the mood for? more PNR / Urban Fantasy? Let’s see…. Elemental Mysteries Series, The Mageri Series, Knights of the Black Swan series… and I am assuming you read all the “big popular” PNRs, right? BDB, IAD, that kind of thing?
For awesome historical I just adored Paula Quinn’s The MacGregor’s series – one of my all time faves!! Each is a stand alone.
That ONE book that you just drop everything to read? For me it was Golden Dynasty by K. Ashley. have re-read so many times I think I know every scene by heart!
So what’re are you craving??
PNR recs huh well here’s some more off the top of my head that I think you would like if you enjoyed Patricia Briggs (a lot below have strong female heroines):
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
Women of the Underworld by Kelley Armstrong
The Others series by Anne Bishop
Riley Jenson series by Keri Arthur
Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance
Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead
Fever series by Karen Marie Moning
Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost
The Marnie Baranuik Files by AJ Aalto
Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones
Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill
The Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins
Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead
Elder Races series by Thea Harrison
Knights of Black Swan by Victoria Danann
Rylee Adamson series by Shannon Mayer
I’m sure there are tons more I can think of if you have a specific subgenre you are interested in. HTH π
Laura WIR is the first book in the Others series that Michelle lists above. I’m not sure I could do it justice describing it. It was my favorite read last year, I think for Michelle too. You may have noticed we slightly loved it. You can count MichelleS and Fabi as fans too.
I think a great winter read as it is winter in the book too. The heroine needs a safe place and happens to find it in the most dangerous place.
And it has ponies. Chubby short legged grumpy faced ponies.
As much as I griped at the beginning of Written in Red, I got over my petty little complaints and ended up really liking it. No steam *sigh* but it was unique compared to other PNRs I have read. I’ll get the next one when it comes down in price. Murder of Crows, I think…
Oh, and I loved the Crows. “Shiny!” LOL!!!!!!
I found Murder of Crows at my library, and I’m on the waiting list!! So yay for me. The ponies – so freaking adorable with their sugar cube lovin’ selves. I liked the freaky girl at the lake best. gave me goosebumps. And that creepy old vamp. It was just so different and original. Ooh. And the wolf pup! Aw. Come on. That the best part of book one!! (Written in Red – YES I agree Laura, loved that one).
And Laura – how could I forget… the PNR series I am in the middle of is turning out to be one of my all time favorites. It gets more and more twisted and angsty, but it’s not complicated… just original and interesting. I’m on to book 4 tonight. It’s already off to a great start (from Logan’s POV so far). It’s the Roam Series.
That’s my plan this weekend. Finish that whole gosh darn series. Haven’t done that in forever (stuck with one series). We’ll see if I squirrel…..
*junps and claps* oh these are all good see and I haven’t even read half!!! Where the hell have I been?!? So I’m going to sit and put them all on my tbr so u know eh I will see u guys next year maybe the year after? Lol I’m pretty quick but I’m off work just now to so have plenty of time but go back in January!! What will I do!! Thanks guys they all look good but yeah I’ve read the usual suspects like BDB and IAD but there is loads out there I know nothing about I still can’t get over how I missed out the highlander series I’m friggin Scottish for God sakes!! So I cannot be trusted to find awesomeness on my own lol
