in Latest Book Releases

Happy new release day!!! We have sexy, steamy, emotional, and dreamy. <— Me being corny again. ;) We also have daaaaaark romance from two very much-loved dark romance authors. And of course, paranormal yumminess!

And then just in a few days, one of my newest favorite books in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is going live and I’m SO jealous of anyone that gets to read it for the first time. The Opposite of You by Rachel Higginson (my review) <— Yes. It’s one of those!!! :D Eeeeeeeeeep! Just a couple of days left for that one. OH I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO READ IT!!!!!

So what looks extra good to me today? Oh well that one up there to the left (of course!!). Stripped Bare (Second chance romance with a single mom/stripper in Vegas and the guy that once broke her heart that promises to pay all her debts… IF she’s his for awhile…), Beach Wedding (the Eversea series finale!!! I love that series!), Beauty and the Book Boyfriend  (she’s a reclusive author that never expected to get so popular, and now her publisher wants to her go on tour), The Fourteen Day Soul Detox (this one sounds intense!!! Her husband died and left her with incredible debt, and she’s turned to his best friend…), Kiss Marry Kill: Iron-Clad Security (a new one by Sidney Halston – a pop star and her bodyguard…), Surrender (KITTY THOMAS!!! I love that super-short blurb. It says just enough for me to be darkly titillated ;) She loves him and wants a white-picket fence, and he wants her to be his slave), and Crazy Over You (Daisy Prescott’s latest!!! Her one night stand doesn’t remember her at all. *whoops* But the blurb says it so much better than I do ;) ).

Oh yeah!! And don’t forget to check out the Monday early bird list in case you missed it. There are some goodies on there too! ➔ 15 Earlybird Book Releases

P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>

  • AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <— This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans all of your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

Lisa Aiello March 28, 2017 at 7:01 AM

Ooooo…I have an ARC of The Fourteen Day Soul Detox. I better get right on it since it released today. Some of these look sooo good!!

Ela March 28, 2017 at 7:44 AM

R. Renee March 28, 2017 at 7:55 AM

I should be! Maybe tomorrow…

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 8:25 AM

I was up until midnight finishing Goodbye Paradise…. on a work day. Thanks a lot, Fabi. I blame you for my yawning today. But I loved it!

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 8:26 AM

Hausfrau, eh??? Okay, okay. I’ll check it out. Fine! So much peer pressure here.

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 8:27 AM

I REALLY needed a complete story with a HEA, so thanks for that, Fabi! :-)

Lisa Aiello March 28, 2017 at 9:17 AM

I shall sleep when I’m dead…I have too much interwebs searching and reading to do…and oh yeah, there’s that work thing too!! Sucks being a night owl and an early riser.

Ela March 28, 2017 at 10:06 AM

Ela March 28, 2017 at 10:08 AM

Amy March 28, 2017 at 10:33 AM

*snort* I love waking up to the banter around here. ;)

I’m a night owl/early riser as well and it blows. Except today…I got to sleep in, yay me!!

And I am SO giddy about The Opposite of You!! It’s Maryse’s newest favorite in the whole wide world, even after Serengeti?? Oh man, this should be good. :D

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 10:42 AM

Amy, from the other thread, I basically excused myself from Dirty Red to remind myself that’s next month’s read. :P She was just making me angry and I figure a few days away is probably good. Instead I’m reading Five Stages of Falling in Love. :)

You know, I think my wishlist on Amazon needs a thorough cleaning. When a book is 99 cents and I still don’t want it, it should go.

How is Grey a cheater?

Jean March 28, 2017 at 10:44 AM

Maryse, did you mean to say “wicked picket-fence” in the description of Surrender, or should that be “white picket-fence”? Haha! I like wicked picket-fence better!

Ela March 28, 2017 at 10:44 AM

So Goodbye Paradise is good? I’m not too crazy for MM with the exception of Wolfsong AND Blay and Qhuinn

Jean March 28, 2017 at 10:47 AM

Oh guys, I’ve been meaning to mention how much I am LOVING Animal by Marni Mann! IT IS BETTER THAN PRISONED! And, you don’t have to read Prisoned first to read this one! I started it yesterday at lunch, read all night after work, and am at 75% now. Finishing it up at lunch. Can you say total mindf*%kery?!?! Wow, just wow!

Jean March 28, 2017 at 10:50 AM

Tessa, I loved the Five Stages of Falling in Love and I just recently read it after putting it off for a long time! I hope you like it!

So, who’s all buddy reading Opposite of You on release day?

Ela March 28, 2017 at 10:50 AM

Grey has combined her Pick for me list WITH Friends Favorites!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare she…..I’m trying to figure out to do the same!

Ela March 28, 2017 at 10:51 AM

Amy March 28, 2017 at 10:51 AM

I get it, Tessa. Just remember, it really is worth it in the end and I’m not saying anything else! But Five Stages is BEAUTIFUL so that was a good one to switch to. ;)

*perks up* Whoa, did Jean just use a catnip word??

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:27 AM

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUDDY READ IT!!!!!!! < — I’m pulling an “Ela” here. :P

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:27 AM

Okay I have Prisoned and it’s time for me to get into a dark read. ;) YAY!! Thank you Jean.

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:28 AM

LOL!!! White… but “wicked” sure sounds about right for this book, I think. I dunno. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s Kitty Thomas so yeah… wicked. ;)

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:29 AM

Okay it’s fixed. Good catch. But I hated fixing it. *snort* :P

bev March 28, 2017 at 11:29 AM

OT but I haven’t done any song shopping in a while.

What is everyone listening to?

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:31 AM

I try to be a night owl but I just can’t. It’s RARE the day I stay up past midnight (even on weekends). If it’s 1am and I’m still awake, it’s ’cause I’m out (and likely desperately wanting to go to bed). hahah

I am an early riser though. I love sleeping, but by 7am I just can’t anymore…

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 11:33 AM

Lisa it DOES sound good. I LOVE that blurb…

Jean March 28, 2017 at 11:43 AM

Awww Maryse, I didn’t want you to change it!!! I liked it as “wicked”! Haha!

If you wanted to, you could skip Prisoned and just read Animal…..the 2nd spinoff book is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!

I wish Opposite of You would release early!! Gah!!!!!! I’m dying here!

Amy March 28, 2017 at 11:50 AM

bev…I have this song playing right now in the background: *****warning, the video has a couple of nip slips*****

Amy March 28, 2017 at 11:56 AM

Okay, now this song is up on my playlist and I LOVE it:

&#9834 I don’t want your body but I hate to think about you with somebody else… &#9834

*sigh* I love music with feels.

Grey March 28, 2017 at 12:17 PM

Hold up- WTF! I hadn’t even posted on this thread yet and I’m already called a cheater… I’m crying foul! *giggle* alright…so maybe I am double dipping a bit.

bev March 28, 2017 at 12:20 PM

Amy, it’s funny. I’m not into sad books but man I love a sad song.

Nipple slip *snort*

Ela March 28, 2017 at 12:23 PM

I may be copying you Grey…

Ela March 28, 2017 at 12:23 PM

bev!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR NEW DOGGIE

bev March 28, 2017 at 12:25 PM

Ok, I just looked up best of at NPR all songs considered and bought a ton of songs unlistented to. Lol. I haven’t done that in forever. Now I’m going to listen to them.
*fingers crossed*

bev March 28, 2017 at 12:25 PM

Of course you do Ela, cause he’s nekkid, lol.

Ela March 28, 2017 at 12:28 PM

Nipples and nekkid doggies….hmmmmmmm

Grey March 28, 2017 at 12:30 PM

Ela’s just mad that she didn’t think of it first… :P

I love this singer, I have a ton of her stuff on my Spotify.

Grey March 28, 2017 at 12:35 PM

Yay! See Ela, I’m brilliant! Haha, *muah*

Jean, wasn’t 5 stages awesome?!?

Amy… What are you reading right now?

bev, awww! I love the new doggie pic!

Maryse, I would love to do the buddy read… But I can’t! Gahhh! Dammit! LOL! I am sure the rest of this bloodthirsty horde won’t wait for me until after Lent either… *sideeyes horde*

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 12:38 PM

Bev, other than Bad Things by Machine Gun Kelly, I’m kind of bored with recent music. Give me a month? The songs aren’t really making me interested in paying attention to what I’m hearing.

bev March 28, 2017 at 12:38 PM

R, I feel like you’re me when I’m on a diet, lol.

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 12:40 PM

Ela, I love her voice. I’ve never heard her before.

bev March 28, 2017 at 12:42 PM

On one hand I love all the new names because discovery. On the other I realize, man I really haven’t been paying attention for a long while. Music gives me such joy I’m not sure why.

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 12:56 PM

… Because main stream music isn’t very good right now? Country music has been stagnant too. Most alternative has been as well. It happens occasionally where the music industry will just run stagnant. Usually that means something is going to break through and sound really different. The last time was EDM, which was just, oh… Europe has had this for decades… welcome to Europe’s version of 1999!

So, we’re due.

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 1:11 PM

Has anyone ever read a book that you really enjoyed, but the end, you thought, you know… this would have been so much better if one of the MC died? Like, it would have hit you harder?

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 1:12 PM

Or if some really loved second character had died, it would have had more meaning? Maybe not the MC, but someone you loved in the book?

bev March 28, 2017 at 1:29 PM

bev March 28, 2017 at 1:30 PM

I don’t want to love the Canon foder. Just read one with that.

bev March 28, 2017 at 1:40 PM

I might annoy you all but can I share the ones I like from what I bought. Really like cause that will probably just be a few. Or a couple, lol.

bev March 28, 2017 at 1:41 PM
bev March 28, 2017 at 1:49 PM

My phone is trying to protect you all. Ha I say. I’ll try this, I say.….0…

Fabi March 28, 2017 at 2:42 PM

MichelleS, I’m so confused. I haven’t even read Goodbye Paradise so how can anything be my fault? I know I haven’t recommended it. *scratches head*

Jaime March 28, 2017 at 4:12 PM

Also, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor came out on Tuesday. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but if it’s written as beautifully as her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series it’s bound to be a winner!

Sidney halston March 28, 2017 at 4:32 PM

Thank you, Maryse

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 5:05 PM

Fabi / I thought FOR SURE it was you who recommended that one! It’s a winner!

Ela – if m/m isn’t your thing, except Quinn & Blay, and Wolfsong, then this is probably not the book for you.

Tessa – you’re going to be sorry if we all BR Maryse’s winner & you’re left out! Come on. You only live once.

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 5:09 PM

Ela – surely you’ve read more m/m than that? What about Original Sinners? Some m/m happening there? You member… sadistic m/m… heehee

Leslie M March 28, 2017 at 5:12 PM

Me! Me! I’m doing the BR for The Opposite of You.

I’m currently reading Aleatha Romigs Infidelity series w/Ela and I could use a break from the crazy drama.

I love when you guys share your music…even though I almost always never know any of it. I do love music, but find myself listening to audiobooks more these days. However, I do have a little crush on Chris Cornell and listen to him all the time.

Fabi March 28, 2017 at 5:28 PM

Not me Michelle. In fact, I don’t think I’ve read any of the m/m romance books you’re reading. Except Bad Things way back when. Don’t know who you’re getting your recs from. LOL!

I’m reading/listening to one of Bev’s right now. Strawberries for Dessert. Been sitting in my tbr foevah!

I’m also reading Bang Gang right now (m/f). Another that I’ve been wanting to read since it came out. I think it’s going to be spicey. At least I hope so. ;-) I got this one on loan.

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 5:44 PM

My pleasure Sidney!!! :D

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 5:44 PM

Thank you Jaime!!!! :D

Tessa March 28, 2017 at 6:17 PM

Grey said she wasn’t. I am! It’s even Kindle Unlimited. *grins wide*

Jan March 28, 2017 at 6:34 PM

Yep I’m in for BR of The Opposite of You. Looking forward to it. Another great list Maryse! Hardly know where to start!

BTW Maryse another new Laura Florand is coming out on 4th April Trust Me (Paris Nights #3). Laura Florand is an auto-buy for me, so hopefully I’ll have finished Opposite of You by then so I can jump straight in.

I went to the movie of Beauty and The Beast last night – the new one with Emma Watson. I LOVED it. It was beautiful. Visually stunning as well as the great music and romantic storyline.

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 6:56 PM

Fabi – if it’s m/m I assume I heard it from you! Ha! So you still haven’t read Into This River I Drown, September, Little Wolf, Goodbye Paradise, or even Weaving Man (yes, it has m/m too). Waaaah! I need my m/m mate!!

Oh, and I read In the Absence of Light, and several others since the Tied Man. It’s one of my favorite genres now!

bev March 28, 2017 at 7:01 PM

The writing in this book is so good.

The relationship between Ari and his dad is both hurting and touching my heart.

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 7:08 PM

I found where I spotted Goodbye Paradise! On your “to read” shelf on GR, Fabi! You add something, it pops up on main page, I check it out! See. I knew I had you to blame for my lack of sleep. But since there are 1500+ books on that shelf, I’ll give you a pass!

MichelleS March 28, 2017 at 7:09 PM

Whatcha’ reading, Bev?

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 7:12 PM

What book bev?

bev March 28, 2017 at 7:37 PM

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.
I love the cover.
I’m trying out a free audible because Lin Manuel Miranda is the narrator. It’s been fun trying this version of it.
It takes place in 1987 El Paso. Ari considers himself a pseudo only child in that his three siblings are so much older. They were born before his dad went to Vietnam and Ari after he came home.

Jan March 28, 2017 at 7:39 PM

bev your current avatar is a cute little creature :D

bev March 28, 2017 at 7:42 PM

I tried to share a bookmark to see if it would work on another post. Not sure if it did for anyone but me. Does it work?
I think you might enjoy this audio clip from Audible:

bev March 28, 2017 at 7:44 PM

Leslie, Chris Cornell? He is very handsome. I used to listen to the O’Conner version over and over again in middle school.

Thanks, Jan.

Fabi March 28, 2017 at 7:47 PM

MichelleS, I haven’t read any of those. LOL I always think I read a lot of m/m romance but it’s really more a mix of several genres. I do remember now that you read In the Absence of Light. That one was memorable for me. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that story.

Maryse March 28, 2017 at 8:17 PM

Oh I LOVE CHRIS CORNELL. Back in his Sound Garden days with his long gorgeous hair, and now in all of his handsome mature man glory.

He was (is) my dream rock star.

Leslie M March 28, 2017 at 8:30 PM

Mmmm hmmm….Chris Cornell = hubba hubba

His voice is so sexy.

Maryse, thats what Kellan is going to look like when he reaches his “mature man glory”.

Jean March 28, 2017 at 9:09 PM

bev March 28, 2017 at 9:51 PM

So would you say you enjoyed it, Jean?

Linda March 29, 2017 at 5:51 AM

Bev lol. Well Jean did you enjoy it??!! Your comment seemed a little subtle.

Jean March 29, 2017 at 6:13 AM

Lisa Aiello March 29, 2017 at 6:52 AM

bev’s avatar looks like a tiny little pony to me…I’m sure it’s a dog though…and damn adorable!!!

Lisa Aiello March 29, 2017 at 6:53 AM

Sooooo – I think we’ll all get The Opposite of You shoved into our Kindle’s tonight…I hope I hope I hope. I’m all set for our buddy read of it tomorrow. I can’t barely stand it – just one more sleep, unless I decide to stay up and read it that is!!

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:27 AM

Its a hairless dog, except on head and tail.

Ela March 29, 2017 at 9:02 AM

Jean, is it stand alone?

Jean March 29, 2017 at 9:28 AM

It can totally be read as a standalone Ela, but I did read Prisoned first which gave you some insight into the darkness! The characters from Prisoned are not in the 2nd book though, and the characters from Animal were not in the first book. My mind is just totally blown from this book! Luckily I buddy read it with my friend. We both finished last night and can’t stop talking about it today!

bev March 29, 2017 at 9:37 AM

Hey, can someone tell me if that audible bookmark works on your end?
I’m just curious if it only works if you have an audible account or what.

bev March 29, 2017 at 9:38 AM

Maryse, I just realized you always lead the posts with the shirtless men, lol.

Ela March 29, 2017 at 10:28 AM

OH! It looks like I read Prisoned…LOL

Jean March 29, 2017 at 10:29 AM

I thought you did Ela!!! And while I didn’t totally love Prisoned, I LOVED Animal! You have to read it right now!

Tessa March 29, 2017 at 10:30 AM

I gotta say, I really did love Five Stages of Falling in Love. Amy said it perfectly; it was beautiful. Such a sweet story and so many feels.

Amber LaBarge March 29, 2017 at 10:35 AM

Love this list! So many goodies!
Another one that releases soon that I had a chance to read, and love is Melody of Us.

Jean March 29, 2017 at 10:45 AM

Tessa, it was beautiful….glad you loved it!

Amy March 29, 2017 at 10:55 AM

Grey…I just finished Garden of Goodbyes, my March Marmy read. It was “meh” at best but at least I finished it. ;)

Now I’m going to pick up A Way to Get By again and read it until I get my hands on The Opposite of You!!!

Fabi March 29, 2017 at 11:28 AM

The Pick For Me challenge is off to a great start. 3 days left to create your list/shelf and join in.

Here’s a link to GR Maryse’s Wolfpack if you want to join there, otherwise, just let me know you’re in and have created a list.

Random match-ups will be on April 1st.

Ela March 29, 2017 at 12:47 PM

Jean, you need to learn to use your caps! RIGH NOW!

Ela March 29, 2017 at 12:53 PM

Yup! Agreed Amy….meh and bleh!

Lisa Aiello March 29, 2017 at 1:08 PM

Oh Amber…I needed another book to add to my TBR (rolling eyes at self). Yep, Melody of Us it is!! Not sure how I didn’t see that one before!

Jean March 29, 2017 at 1:32 PM

Ela ????? oh, was that on GR?….haha!

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 2:57 PM

Hey all! I’ve been a MIA lately and I miss reading these posts and comments. Life got super hectic and busy again, but I’m allowing myself a little (microscopic) me time. Not without interruptions. *sigh* I have to go back up and read all the comments yet, but I’m so looking forward to The Opposite of You and also The Animal Under the Fur tomorrow!

Fabi March 29, 2017 at 3:55 PM

bev bev bev! Thank you so much for the loan!!! I’ve been wanting to read Promises forever. *muah smooch*

Nay March 29, 2017 at 4:32 PM

Meh and bleh? I was SO hoping Garden of Goodbyes would be awesome! I’m still going to give it a try, jic I’m weird or something.

Tasha–come to the GR boards and see the challenges! Are you joining in on the TOOY buddy read??

Wow! I had Prisoned and Animal on my tbr, but this M. Mann has good reviews and writes dark–clickety clicking on my GR tbr shelf! lol

MichelleS March 29, 2017 at 4:56 PM

Yippee! Animal is a KU book! Now, can I finish it before tomorrow’s BR? First world problems here ladies! So excited!

Jan March 29, 2017 at 5:30 PM

Hooray. The Opposite of You is here on my kindle this morning. I’m going in! Tee hee!.

Another new HR came out today too Maryse (in Aus) – it’s the latest Georgian romance by Lucinda Brant, and it’s called Proud Mary. Looks good :D

bev March 29, 2017 at 6:35 PM

Lol, your welcome.

I am not doing the math, never ever.
But though I do buy a lot at sale prices it makes me feel happier that the books get more use out of them.

Maryse March 29, 2017 at 7:21 PM

Thank you Jan! I’ll add it to Friday’s list. :D

I can’t wait to hear what you think of Opposite!!!

Maryse March 29, 2017 at 7:22 PM

Yay Tasha!!! Welcome back.

Maryse March 29, 2017 at 7:22 PM

LOL bev!!! Not ALWAYS. But maybe a tendency… ;)

Fabi March 29, 2017 at 7:36 PM

I appreciate it bev. If you fancy anything loanable from mine please let me know. On GR, books on my Kindle shelf are all owned outright.

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:09 PM

Wow, there are a ton of topics on GR boards. I can’t keep up with all that, lol. But I’m gonna try a cpl challenges and see how it goes. Though GR won’t let me make another shelf right now (I tried like 3x and it keeps disappearing) so I’ll try from my computer tomorrow or something.

R. Renee March 29, 2017 at 8:10 PM

I’m hijacking bev’s 3 things.

1. I spent hours making homemade tomato soup today.
2. The effing plastic lid to the blender fell inside.
3. I had to order a pizza.

OK, 4 things.
4. So, rum is happening.

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:13 PM

Thanks, Fabi. During the summer I might go browsing through. :)

Ok, tired, bored, commuting. Let’s play.

If I said lemon bar what book would you say?

I think bright, sweet, and tart. Makes me think of Act Like It and The Hating Game.

Jan March 29, 2017 at 8:17 PM

LOL R. The little frustrations of everyday life. You deserve some serious reading time now (with rum on the side?)

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:18 PM

Bev, I see you’ve read I’ll Give You the Sun…what did you think? I just got it in at the library, but not really sure I’m in the mood. Just wanting some feedback to see if I should hang on to it and try to read it later or take it off my tbr.

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:20 PM

Lol, R.

1. Girl time with bf. (My IRL one)
2. Bought a lemon verbena candle. (My favorite scent.)
3. I bought Hollyhocks for the yard. (Pray for their lives.)

4. Tessa ‘ s Three Things (I love alliteration)

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:20 PM

Um, I just bought nutrigrain lemon crumb cake things. That’s what I’d say. Lol
And I’ve been into the Savannah Smiles lately

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:28 PM

It’s very good, Tasha. Of her two books it’s the more critically acclaimed. I have a soft spot for her first book, though it probably isn’t crafted as well. But it was a right book/right mood read for me, plus the hero’s nickname for the heroine was John Lennon and they are both musicians.
But back to your book, lol. She has a very distinct writing style. Whimsical and almost magical realism.
It deals with a lot of different themes. I particularly enjoyed how the twins saw the others relationship ‘ s with the parents. Has art, mystery, romance, and grief.

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:31 PM

LMAO sorry not clear. What book does it make you think of?

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:33 PM

1. I reheat Starbucks cups several times throughout the day even though the cup says not to microwave.
2. I’m severely out of shape and today I decided to bite the bullet and fix that so I YouTube’d beginner stretching videos bc I forget how. And at the end I was huffing for breath, my heart was pounding, everything burned and shook. And all I did was stretch!
3. I’m all caught up on Big Little Lies, just 1 episode left, and there’s a soundtrack coming out Friday that I’m seriously considering buying.
4. I’m also googling Hollyhocks

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:40 PM

I figured, but that was the first thing I thought of! I’ve never read it, but the cover of Luck, Love, and Lemon Pie has stuck in my mind. Since I read the Coincidence of Coconut Cake, I have a feeling this book is just as yummy. Also, Caraval bc of all the delicious, sugary descriptions. And there was at least 1 book, that I’ll never remember the name of, and a scene where they do lemon drop shots.

Tessa March 29, 2017 at 8:51 PM

Honest truth. Lemon bar makes me think of A Court of Faeries. I wanted so badly to like it, but the writing made me slightly sick. (I’m allergic to lemons.)

Tessa’s Three Things
1. I hate running. Despise it. I don’t mind exercise, but I hate running. A lot.
2. I am reading Abbi Glines’ Under the Lights and am loving it. I think I know who she will end up with, but it’s a little iffy. And I so want to know her secret, but that’s being a super secret that even the audience doesn’t know.
3. I’m having Churizo and eggs burritos for dinner.

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 8:51 PM

Oh, they’re flowers! I was thinking it was a yard game or something, lol! That would explain ‘pray for their lives’. I’ve decided not to do flowers this year, except for in the barrel. We have a border around the front and both sides full of bushes, small trees, and other greenery that I loathe to upkeep, but love the look of so this year I say no more. This past year there are at least 4 neighborhood cats that have decided to make it their litter box and my goal is to outwit them somehow. I may do stone instead of mulch, but I hate the idea of cost and no one else on the street has it so I dk..

bev March 29, 2017 at 8:59 PM

Lol, Tessa. I love that. Heh.

Tasha, you’ve probably read other reviews but just a nice look at I’ll give you the Sun.

Tasha J March 29, 2017 at 9:23 PM

Actually, I hadn’t read many reviews, just the 2 star one on the top. I always try not to or they’ll ruin it for me. I like to go in blind a lot of the time, most of the time I don’t even remember what it’s about and I’ll go back if I’m a little lost to read the blurb quick. But, I read most of that one you just posted, and from what you said it sounds like a keeper! As long as TOOY doesn’t put me in a fog, this’ll be next for me.

Maryse March 29, 2017 at 9:25 PM

My three things:

1.) I’m right on with Tessa about running. Ugh. No. I never get those girls in the books that have to run all the time (and I’m jealous of them). Then I find out that we have a bunch of real-life runners right here in our book world. *sigh* I envy your dedication to running… but nope. I can’t even fathom.

2.) I have never had churizo but I want to so bad. It always looks soooooo good on the cooking channel.

3.) I’m growing baby lemon and orange trees (that I grew from my own seeds!). They are big and bushy now and about two feet tall. I’m so proud of them.

Maryse March 29, 2017 at 9:27 PM

bev I love anything lemon and a lemon bar would be decadent and fresh and light. And just a touch too tart (or tangy) but I would love one anyway.

bev March 29, 2017 at 10:31 PM

Oh, I got the two books I ordered from Book Dipository.

Unconventional by Maggie Harcourt
Raw Blue by Kirsty Eager

Tessa March 29, 2017 at 11:45 PM

Everyone who loves emotional yet YA stories, read Under Friday Lights by Abbi Glines. That was so true and so well done, words defy me.

Lisa March 30, 2017 at 3:55 AM

Can I play three things too Bev? I’m marking assignments and I swear a small part of my soul dies from sheer boredom reading these essays! The poor students having to write them!!
1. Amy has awesome taste in music. I love that 1975 song. And their song ‘me’ makes me well up every single time I hear it. Every time.
2. I steal lemons from my neighbour’s trees which hang over my fence. I have lemon tree envy that Maryse has a green enough thumb to grow her own.
3. I coming to Robins for rum dinner. ;)

MichelleS March 30, 2017 at 8:19 AM

3 things:
I do not run ever.
I love lemon desserts.
Chorizo is made from pork saliva glands.

bev March 30, 2017 at 8:30 AM

Chorizo is like hot dogs, don’t ask questions.

Ela March 30, 2017 at 9:16 AM

I knew there was a reason i didn’t like chorizo! Mario LOVES it…nope not me….and yes I tried it. Although, the one from McDonalds tastes nothing like the real chorizo, that one I like (who the hell knows what it’s made of the McD’s one???)

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 9:56 AM

The Opposite of You by Rachael Higginson

Something tells me this is going to be a common first line today.

Jean March 30, 2017 at 9:58 AM

Ditto Tessa!!! Loving it so far….only at 10%, but stupid work is getting in my way!

Jean March 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM

Tessa I saw your comment about Under Friday Lights. I have that and just bought the 2nd book on sale…..thanks for the feedback!

Grey March 30, 2017 at 10:04 AM

3 things…
1) I don’t run. Ever. In fact, I joke that the only time I would run is if a clown with a knife was chasing me, and even then, it would be iffy, because I would probably just turn around and throw down with the da** clown.
2) I hate clowns
3) We are doing a biggest loser competition at work and I’m totally over it. Sabotage, thy name is Grey. I am eating Airheads and drinking Pepsi… It’s 11am… This message is brought to you courtesy of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.

bev March 30, 2017 at 10:04 AM

“Watching a movie with my brother and his boyfriend was like watching the first few minutes of a gay porn video.”
Sunset Park by Santino Hassell

Grey March 30, 2017 at 10:17 AM

FLT- I’d be lying if I said I don’t notice him enter the restaurant. ~ Night Shifts Black by Alyson Santos

R. Renee March 30, 2017 at 10:21 AM

FLT “When my eyes are closed, the monster can’t see me.” K. Webster, Whispers and the Roars

I’m at about 25% and just now beginning to get into it. I found 3 pretty big grammar errors in the first 20% and they totally threw me. I’m used to finding typos (I hate them, but I’m used to them), but grammar?

I have company all week too which isn’t helping my reading progress :-/

Fabi March 30, 2017 at 10:26 AM

“Ten thirty a.m. and I was buried deep under the bonnet of Ken Farley’s old Audi, sweating my bollocks off as I wrestled with the soon-to-blow cam belt he should’ve had replaced thirty thousand miles ago.”
Bang Gang by Jude West

This book! Gah! I’ve been wanting to read it since it came out a year ago. FINALLY got to it.

Jean March 30, 2017 at 10:39 AM

Amy March 30, 2017 at 10:46 AM

Three things:

1. I have a love/hate thing with running. I hate how the first mile feels but love it once the endorphins kick in.
2. I hate clowns too but can’t wait for IT to come out in September.
3. Chorizo is good (especially with scrambled eggs!!) but only if you eat it with bev’s way of thinking…”don’t question it.”

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 10:46 AM

Jean, I am not even ten percent. lol I’m so glad that inlfluenced you. Both books are so good, but the second just was so emotional and the characters were so real. I can’t wait for number three to be released. (PS, all are stand alones)

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 10:47 AM

I never question what the mystery meat is. It’s just best not to.

Amy March 30, 2017 at 10:49 AM

First line is the same as Tessa’s. :D

Tessa…you have me excited for that series! I haven’t really read any HS sports books in a while. Adding it to my pick-for-me shelf.

Ela March 30, 2017 at 10:56 AM

Ela March 30, 2017 at 10:59 AM

Ela March 30, 2017 at 11:01 AM

Not FLT but my favorite:

“No, I’m not Prince Charming. I’m Batman.”
― Aleatha Romig, Fidelity

bev March 30, 2017 at 11:14 AM

Don’t you mean

No, I’m not Prince Charming. I’M BATMAN.

Jean March 30, 2017 at 11:23 AM

*sticks tongue out at Ela* regarding NSB

Jean March 30, 2017 at 11:31 AM

And actually Ela, Tracing Holland completed that story for me!

That ditto to Tessa meant same FLT!

Ela March 30, 2017 at 11:33 AM

That’s right NOX IS BATMAN!

*sticks tongue back at Jean*

Nay March 30, 2017 at 11:40 AM

The Opposite of You by Rachael Higginson

3 Things:
1) I hate running, but I can’t wait until I can run again–hopefully soon!!
2) My boys are out of school today for storms that are nowhere in sight (thank goodness!)
3) My face is so swollen that I can’t do anything but laugh when I look in the mirror. My poor husband!! lol

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 11:48 AM

You say, “boys no where in sight” and I think, ‘OMG what are they up to and how much will it cost to repair the damage?’

bev March 30, 2017 at 11:49 AM

Just clicked on this and look at the first book. Ha. He is just so good at it.

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 11:57 AM

Yeah, Amy! I hope you enjoy them. They are so emotional and true that I think you’ll really love them.

bev March 30, 2017 at 3:30 PM

Talking to Nay about Bette Davis on GR. Reminded me of this if you like looking at homes.

Jan March 30, 2017 at 6:24 PM

*mystery meat* ???? Tessa, I love it. Actually, I love chorizo too, but I NEVER stop and think about what’s in it. I just eat it and enjoy every mysterious mouthful.

MY FLT is the same as Tessa and Nay (Opposite of You) but I started reading Proud Mary as well, a new HR that fell into my kindle the same day :) So….

‘Mr Christopher Bryce sat at his desk in the steward’s office reading a letter.’ Proud Mary by Lucinda Brant. Christopher is pretty hot, BTW ;)

Maryse March 30, 2017 at 6:55 PM

Agreed with you, Ela on Nights Shifts Black…

Leslie M March 30, 2017 at 7:52 PM

FLT : same as Tessa, Nay & Jan

3 things:

1. I’m munching on the most delicious snack of coffee glazed cashews from Trader Joe’s.
2. Another FREAKING snowstorm coming. 6 to 10 inches!!! Wtf???
3. I’m never eating chorizo again.

Bev, my “lemon bar” book would be Seduction & Snacks.

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 8:07 PM

Yep, mystery meat. :P

Bev, pick a yummy I’m not allergic too. So… no citirus, blueberries, walnuts, or kiwi. Easy, right?

bev March 30, 2017 at 8:37 PM

Tessa, Affogato. I’ve had it one time and so yummy.

Hmm. I have to think of a book for it.

bev March 30, 2017 at 8:48 PM

I think my Affogato book will be the one I just read, Sunset Park.
Two different character types coming together, yet they balance each other out.

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 9:40 PM

Hehehe, we think so differently. I haven’t had it, but just reading the description I came up with In Flight by RK Lilley. Super yummy, but mature and slightly addictive.

Grey March 30, 2017 at 10:59 PM

I just got home from seeing Wicked. Ohhhhh, I loved it so much! I now have the urge to finish my little fairy tale I started writing a while back…le sigh!

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 11:29 PM

The musical?

Tessa March 30, 2017 at 11:30 PM

If it’s the musical, OMG, wasn’t it good? We had a great cast come when I went to see it. Just one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen.

Jan March 31, 2017 at 12:38 AM

Coffee-glazed cashews. YUM!!! I want some!

I’m finding it hard to link books to food ideas. They’re such different things in my head. Umm, an affogato book? A lemon bar book? Nup. I’m struggling with that.

bev March 31, 2017 at 1:26 AM

Lol, Jan. I’ve seen it before. Blogs pairing ice cream or drinks with books.

It makes me think of like what would Spring taste like?

bev March 31, 2017 at 1:28 AM

Tessa, I like that we think of two different books, lol. Have that one, just haven’t read it.

Nay March 31, 2017 at 2:17 AM

Bev–OMG, I’m just IN LURVE with Butternut Lodge. That is like my dream home!!

Tessa–we never did get any rain except for a few sprinkles. And don’t get me wrong, I’m very thankful–tornado months in Tennessee are NO fun, but our school system actually called off school because of the threat of bad weather and we got nothing.

Tessa March 31, 2017 at 9:47 AM

Lol that’s kind of messed up. It makes you wonder about weather sometimes. So it went around you?

Nay March 31, 2017 at 10:21 AM

Yup. We had it above and below us the night before (when they called off school for the next day) and it ended up coming nowhere near us.

Grey March 31, 2017 at 12:26 PM

Tessa, yes the musical…it was wonderful!!! I went in completely blind. I had no idea what was going to happen… So it was amazing!!! I’m still floating on my *Wicked* cloud today!

Tessa March 31, 2017 at 1:02 PM

lol Now go get the soundtrack. I used to listen to that non stop. :)
