Predator by Michelle Horst <— BARGAIN and OH YES this sounds like dark-romance FUN!! “No one with Ellison blood in their veins is allowed to live, and I am the last of my bloodline. I am kept in a container waiting for my death sentence to be carried out, when he comes. He is only known as ‘Predator’. No one knows who he works for, only that he leaves no one alive. His every breath is filled with the last gasp of his dying prey. But for some reason he doesn’t kill me. I don’t know which is worse, the death sentence hanging over my head, or being at his mercy.“

Back to our yesterday’s regularly scheduled programming 😉 :
6:24pm EST TUESDAY BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!! I just added FIVE MORE to the contemporary romance section below. Right at the top of the list so you can’t miss ’em. Includes one CRAZY sounding one by Teresa Mummert, and one a rock star one by Emma Hart and a YIKES OMG!!! sounding one by H.M. Ward. OH YES!!! 😀
It’s ready!! And while the list, as it stands, is VERY pretty and full of book-goodies, I’m going to add-on through the day. There are SO many awesome book-bargains right now, too. Tee hee! So take a look, and keep checking back ’cause I’ve still got more to come.
ALSO!!! Don’t forget to check out yesterday’s EARLY-BIRD RELEASES ’cause, even though it’s short and sweet, it’s got some super-sounding books (that are already sky-rocketing up the Amazon best selling charts as we speak). And that’s including one that I LOVED and just reviewed and highly recommend. 😀 I linked up the review on it, too.
Oh and the ones that gave me a blurb-jolt (or were an absolute one-click for me): Indebted Series 1-3: Boxed Set (yes please! At THAT price, a dark read series that so many here can’t stop talking about – MINE!!), Zane (a vampire & human romance series that sounds right up my alley! She just got divorced and is at a book signing, and HE is at her table!!) Stout (they are new neighbors, thinking they are strangers, but they’ve met before…), His to Love (She’s a mafia princess and he’s her ex… now an undercover cop out for revenge, plus I loved another book by this author), Glitter on the Web (I love the premise of this one, too! He’s a famous singer with a new hit song about his love of bigger girls, and his groupies think he’s a sweetheart, but his ex outs his secret…) and Rush (Football star that ends up in jail with her… “Because of him, she’s in trouble and when he discovers her true identity, he realizes, his nightmare is just beginning.” YES PLEASE to this, too!). OH and TWO more that have my attention that I just added this evening: Hollow (she’s a TOTAL b*tch and has no qualms about it – that blurb is almost infuriating!!) and Secrets and Lies (she’s about to have a one-night stand with a sexy stranger, but before they go all the way, he darts and leaves her there, and a week later she realizes he wasn’t a stranger at all… OH. OH.) <— THIS SOUNDS AWESOME!!!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything!)
AUDIOBOOK LVERS
For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>
- AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <—
This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

- Zane (THE FLAMES OF VAMPIRE PASSION SERIES Book 1) by Elaine Barris <— THE BLURB HAS ME!!! And book #2 was just released (below in the paranormal section). I didn’t read that blurb so I don’t spoil it for myself, but this one… YES PLEASE!! “I had left my husband to pursue my life on my own terms rather than put up with one more word of insult. Once I arrived at the event, I was startled to find someone already at my table, Zane, claiming to be my assistant for the night…” Lots of great reviews for BOTH books already…
- Danse Macabre by Christina Quinn <— VAMPIRE BALLET GROUP & the human ballerina that is intrigued by him. This one is super-bargain priced right now, and book #2 was just released below. They intrigue me… “The poised, demure Autumn is shocked to find herself attracted to Aleksi, in spite of all of the warnings she’s received her entire life about vampires. Intrigued by Autumn’s composure and reserve, Aleksi discovers he has a need to make the shy academic his—at all costs…”
- Sustained by Emma Chase <— FUNNY & ENDEARING ALERT! SO many LOVE this one, and it’s still super-bargain priced!
- Beauty and the Mustache: A Philosophical Romance (Knitting in the City Book 4) by Penny Reid <— still super-bargain priced! And Jacee loved it!
“Finished Beauty and the Mustache last night. Honestly, Drew is the sweetest. It’s so romantic. I cried sad tears, happy tears, sweet tears..all the tears. It’s different from her other books in that it’s not as funny. It’s so romantic. Drew has this quiet, sweet, hot, manly thing going on. You can read it alone, but I enjoyed seeing all the characters from previous books.”

- Thicker than Blood by Madeline Sheehan & Claire C Riley <— Post-Apocalyptic SUPER-BARGAIN priced today! And Amy LOVED it!
“…don’t forget about Thicker Than Blood for a post-apocalyptic read. It has enough romance to take care of that craving, but the focus is on the close friendship bond between the two women. SO freaking good.”

Alright, commenting super fast. If you like dark reads, you have to give Ondebted a chance. It’s angsty and insane.
Fyi, I’m currently in a bus in Orlando, so I might not be posting much this week.
Another new release is The Countdown by Kimberly Derting. The first two books in The Taking series were pretty good so hopefully the finale is too!
Tessa!!!! What are you doing on a bus in Orlando?? 😀
Oh that looks GREAT! Thank you Melanie!!!
Rofl. Went to CVS.
It erased everything else I typed! I went to Universal Studios and went to Diagon Alley and drank Butterbeer. No wand… yet!
Ohhh I wanna try that Butterbeer!
It was goooood! Then later, we shared butterbeer ice cream. That was yummy too!
Great list Maryse!!!!!!!
The Empty Jar by M. Leighton is a huge ugly cry through out the ENTIRE book!!!!!
Ela I’m scared of it!!!!
I will need a huge bowl of Butterbeer ice cream if I read it.
Tesssaaaaaa!!!! I’m so freaking jealous!!!
Rush, stout and hollow all look appealing… Typing on my phone from a baseball game LOL, talk about addicted.
Tessa get me a butter beer and a wand! And a picture of you with Hermione!
Ela, thanks so much for the feedback.
Bev, I know I said I’d read anything for the buddy read. But you let Amy pick and now you’re not even in it yourself. So, as much as I hate going back on my word. Please look above at Ela’s reaction. Unless my buddy readers plan on taking up a collection for my PTSD therapy afterwards, I probably shouldn’t BR The Empty Jar.
Ooh. Thicker Than Blood. I’ve been wanting to read it since it came out. What was I waiting for? I love M, Sheehan and dystopian. Maybe I was miffed that she wrote this instead of finishing Holy Trinity??? IDK. But at 99 cents, I’ll take my chances. Yippee.
Hey, I specifically said not the death book, with an arrow pointing up to the list. Then Amy was all pick me pick me. So I said, Amy. And she said, death book. Then everyone was all, Oooooh a death book, how fun.
And all, bev who the cry baby, you can’t be in our club. Our club of death.
I say you, me, MichelleS, Cheryl, etc should read Undecided or The Rule book which I meant to start yesterday.
OMG Bev. This blog needs a “like” button.
Lmao “Our club of death.” I dunno Ela’s comment wasn’t in all caps so I’m thinking it wasn’t that bad…
Ooh Hollow sounds amazing! I wanna squirrel from my list so bad right now! There are way too many good looking new releases coming out and I’m reading too slow to catch up! :'( I’m literally in the last 10% of The 5th Wave right now and just found out it was a series. Wahh…I don’t know when I’ll get around to the other 2 bc I’ve got both Mercy Thompson books 2 and 3, The Fall Up and Here With Me (Archer Brothers) on loan right now and I hate letting those loans go to waste. And theres so many pretties out!!! I may cave, lol
Does it seem like that type, an MC dying, is becoming a bit of a trend?
Michelle S- I loved Thicker Than Blood- one of my favorite dystopians ever. I loved that it was more about the bond between the girls and survival with just a touch of romance. And I felt the characters were well written and relatable. That book got me out of a funk and put me right back in one, lol.
OMG Bev…BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I flipping luffs you, lady.
Tessa, have fun and have lots of butterbeer for us. So jealous but so happy for you!
Grey, I’ve been known to type comments here on my phone while standing in line for a stall in a movie theater bathroom. True story. You are SO in like company. 😉
MichelleS, you have to read Thicker Than Blood. HAVE. TO. I’m serious. It’s typical Madeline Sheehan, but more like her Holy Trinity series than her MC series. It will make your heart ache in a couple of parts but it’s SUCH a great story with some hope at the end. Will you read it? Pretty pretty please?? *folds hands under chin and bats false lashes*
MARYSE! *grabs Maryse’s arm with both hands and shakes it* See Ela’s comment about Empty Jar? And we’re reading it later this week…you gotta read it with us! 😀
Okay, now I have to go and actually check out the WHOLE list up there…
I’m A-SCARED!!!!!!! SOBBING through the whole book? *gasp*!!!
I’m almost done my fantasy-novel by Amy Harmon!! 😀 Soon a review.
LOL Michelle!!!
I too, determine Ela’s intense feelings for a book (love or hate) by her caps. Hahahahahahah!!!!!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD bev wins the internet. This has got to be the funniest thing one of us has ever said:
“Hey, I specifically said not the death book, with an arrow pointing up to the list. Then Amy was all pick me pick me. So I said, Amy. And she said, death book. Then everyone was all, Oooooh a death book, how fun.
And all, bev who the cry baby, you can’t be in our club. Our club of death.”
Bahahahahahhahahah!!!!!!! I’m cackling.
*hugs bev and smooches her right on her forehead*
I’m dying. bev you have to write a book. Or be a character in a book and the author HAS TO let you do your own dialogue.
LOL!!!!!!! 😛 😛 😀 😛
Okay lemme finish my fantasy book, and then… death book. And even though I made fun of bev being a death-book chicken, I too, am a chicken.
*secretly joins bevs club*
Right?!? LOL!!! I swear, it wouldn’t be the same without Bev and her awesomely dry sense of humor (which I absolutely LOVE) around here.
And oooooooh Bev is gonna freak out over the hug and forehead smooch. 😛
Lol. That would be the most boring book. Me in my pj’s reading or talking to you ladies.
And snap out of it, Maryse! *squeezy hugs Maryse and swings her back and forth* If anyone can handle an ugly-cry book it’s YOU.
No bev ’cause see? You’re talking which = awesome dialogue!!!!!
bev’s awesome and hilarious dry humor. The PERFECT touch to our goofy group.
Bev, Bev, Bev…you just don’t realize how much we enjoy you or how entertaining you are. 😉
I read that and literally scrunched my eyebrows together and looked up toward my forehead.
You guys are on fire tonight. My email’s seeing more action than I did in college. Amy, can you please pass the martinis? Bev, can you please refrain from speaking while I take a sip so I don’t spit it on my screen?
oh my god Bev, I couldn’t stop laughing long enough to type. Priceless. Epically accurate of how we’re like around here.
Haaaaaaa R. This is comedy central tonight. And me with the TV on. 🙁
Oh and … I read it to my mom (bev’s comment) ’cause you know… FaceTime.
My mom cackled loudly and turned red from lack of air… there was severe snorting.
But she agreed. HILARIOUS.
I was thinking of the funniest thing I’ve read on here and it still makes me laugh. It is Amy imagining Maryse with her mouth open to catch all the “peanuts” being thrown. I can still remember clicking on and reading that email and just losing it.
*slides dirty martini to RR* Quick, take a sip before Bev comes back. 😛
Fabi? Dirty martini for you too? Eh? Ehhhhhh?? *waggles martini in the air*
*blushes bright red*
Oh lord, I’m going to die if Maryse’s mommy ever hears that one…
Aaaaand now I’m never gonna get that visual out of my head tonight. Maryse ducking beneath her arms and multiple “smacking” sounds.
😐
*snort*
😐
Bahahahahaha!
Lol. You ladies are just sweetness. Thank you for the little boost to my ego.
*hides own Martini behind back* sure Amy! I’d love a dry Martini. <–autocorrect still thinks martini should be capitalised
Oh. My.
Took me a moment.
You meant from them hitting her.
Ooohhh Bev, you had to remind us. That was anautocorrect for the blog history books. hahahaha
Fabi, Martini should be capitalized. Just because it’s awesome. LOL!
Oh and Amy, my mom would laugh her butt off with the things you say… innuendo queen. You are right up her alley!!!
And mine! 😀
*sneaks up behind Fabi and sips her martini still hiding behind her back*
heeey…ohhh….Maryse is sneeeaky with those drinks. Aaaamy, can I have another please? Cause, you know, I have two hands and all…
I think Fabi’s slurring her vowels…
Ohhhhh dang! *covers mouth with hand and points at Fabi* She IS slurring her words, LOL!!! She can’t even keep the martini thief from stealing her drink! 😛
*slides two more martinis over to Fabi*
Hi book pals….I see you’ve all been hopping into the martinis while Ive been hard at work! Im dying for one.
Thinking of reading something paranormal for a change and wondering if Zane might be the ticket.
Also there’s been another vampirery book youve all been loving lately but I cant remember the title/author and Im too lazy to scroll back through your comments. Can anyone help?
Damnit… You guys have all the fun. Stooopid baseball. I agree the blog wouldn’t be the blog without Bev. Everyone hold hands and sing kumbayah damnit! Ehee OK. Back to regularly scheduled drinking, oh wait its only 645am, guess that’s frowned upon before work… *Blink blink*
An ugly cry thru the whole book huh…you guys realize the last book I did that with… No wait I’ve never done that before…
*eyes wide* I miss so much when I’m drunk… Err vacationing. Thank you Ela and Amy! OMG. So, we went last night tho this place called Cowfish snd the waiter recommended this drink that was so insanely good that totally sneaks hoop I you and smacks thou down. It tasted like a light flavored mint julep but with enough vodka to knock you down. Soooo yummy. I haven’t seen Hermione yet, but did get a picture with the Knight Bus.
Poor Bev. Just say no to death books! *gives non huggy hug* Though, your comment about the MC dying being popular got a real laugh. Sad part? It’s TRUE!
OMG. I blame the hour for my lavk if brains.
Bev, I’ll join your club. You, Fabi and me–> The Cry Babies. I do not want to read the death book that makes you sob the entire time. I read for enjoyment, not to be drained and run over emotionally, and quite honestly I want HEA endings. On that note, The Rule Book looks good. 😉
Ha! We could have our own reality TV show. The Cry Babies vs. The Death Club
Cheryl, Fabi and Bev….sign me up!! Im with you. No death book for me that shreds my heart and makes me ugly cry from beginning to end. No sir-ee.
The cry babies vs the death club vs the smut hussies (that’s my group in case there was any doubt)
hahaha not sure you can claim that one for yourself Grey. Considering our reading preferences, I’d say we all subscribe to that club.
This whole death club thing is brilliant. You guys may have saved me some serious literary mistakes. I cannot be in the death club. Maryse, I think when you read a book you need to put a little DC by it, if you know… *makes slashing throat sign*
Opens up flap of my blankie fort… I’ve got moscato…
haha The Smut Loving Cry Babies vs. The Smut Loving Death Club. Has a nice ring to it!!
Ok, I have to stand by my belief that romance is not smut. It is one of my little soapbox things. Lol.
LET ME RECTIFY MY WAY EARLIER COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE EMPTY JAR IS A SOBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGGG FEST OF A BOOK! IT’S SO SADLY BEAUTIFUL BUT OH SO DAMN SAD TOO!!!!!!
Oh, I like that Cheryl.
lol Bev, I’d agree if we read romance books without graphically detailed sex scenes…but…we don’t. At least I don’t. 😉
I’M IN ALL CLUBS UNLESS you are creating a “horror hussies club” then I’m O.U.T.
*runs screaming from Ela’s comment* That’s downright terrifying.
Tessa, I think so too. Every one talks of the step sibling and bully trends, but the MC dying is too. Like after Gone Girl everyone wanted a twist now after, well titles would be spoilers, but everyone wants the ugly cry, lol.
None of the books I read have sex scenes *rolls eyes*…I admit nothing!
Yeah right! I’m probably the biggest smut hussy HERE! 2 words OPAL CAREW…
Oh Fabi! YOU KNOW you wanna cry with me!!!!
Even then. No one calls graphic novels, or fantasy, or litfic, or etc smut if they have set scenes. Or shows like SOA, or GoT. But if it is part of a romance it’s smut. We are not reading penthouse.
It may have sex, but I’m not comparing Kleypas or KA or SEP to that.
Not meaning to judge if you read those magazines.
AT 60% – SOBBING AT WORK WHILE SNEAKING IN THE EMPTY JAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
But Bev… What if I write it??? *cheers*
“Not meaning to judge if you read those magazines.”
*crosses arms and hmphs* our smutty reads are much more exciting then those porn mags
I’m teasing Bev. 😉 But you’re right. I read smut. There are definitely erotica books mixed in my tbr and reads. The books you tend to prefer are more along the lines of romance.
Grey, if that is how you label your work, your sub genre..ok. Lol. That is awesome if your writing erotic books.
Fabi, I’ve read and read erotica. It is just one of my soapbox topics. When romance gets brushed with the label smut or trashy and what it implies. *shrug*
I’d be curious as to how many readers think of it that way or how many writers of romance do?
I write erotic romance, but I definitely tend to be more on the romantic side. The love story takes center stage. I have friends (like the one who wrote the book I just recommended to Fabi) that write more on the sex side. There’s a love story at the core, but I’d consider it erotica more than erotic romance. There’s definitely a difference to me. Someone who reads my book is looking for feels and I hope I can give them to them. Someone who reads erotica is looking for steam. In many cases the lines can be blurred and either genre can give you both.
Oh fiddlesticks! I missed all the fun. I adore you Bev, and it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without you here. That NO DEATH BOOKS rant was hilarious. I don’t like death in books either. I’m the HEA girl, remember? I can handle rape, spanking, abuse, kidnapping, m/m, brother-sister, teacher-student, slap me (Lahn & Circe), bite me, whip me (Soren and Nora), turning into a beast (Rhage)…. just about ANYTHING can happen… just no death and no cheating. I hate books with either one of those things.
So…. it sounds like M. Sheehan’s dystopian is the way to go. That’ll be my next read. I am catching up now with a Free book I got from what of Michelle’s list of goodies. But it’s definitely next.
What are we reading, Bev? No death for us – and I owe you a read after that last book.
Thank you thank you thank you {{hugs}}
I just started Game of Thrones. Holy hell, I can’t believe I waited so long. The world-building is just unbelievable!
But but but *lip trembles* IT WAS SO SADLY BEAUTIFUL! IT WAS SO MUCH ABOUT REAL LIFE LOVE AND PAIN! Not like killing off a MC just so the sequel makes sense but oh so much more and not selfish like that’s!
LOL R. Renee… that’s actually quite clever. 😉 We need a logo.
My pleasure Suanne!! That is too good of a deal to pass up!! 😀
LOL, it’s all good. It depends on the day what I’m writing. Today, I’m writing fan fic, so *shrug*, it takes all kinds, right?
I am still deep in Aleatha Romig’s world…oh and what a beautifully twisted world it is. I am in love…
MichelleS, I keep meaning to start the Rules book…but real life. And then I fall asleep. Told you all boring. But I also really want to read Saving June or the new Julianna Keyes book. Wanna read one????
Okay I just one-clicked Undecided. You guys have absolutely decided for me.
Bev – do you mean Undecided, by Keyes? I read the first amazon review and that reviewer said it was her favorite NA book ever – better than Beautiful Disaster and The Deal…. them’s some powerful words right there, I tell ya’…… I may just take you up on that offer. Okay. When are we going in? Who else is with us?
Not sure if it will live up to that hype, but that is the one. Can start any time you want.
Grey, you can’t leave us hanging. Fan fiction of what?
So many people love fan fiction, erotic or not. Have you read Fan girl by Rainbow Rowell? So good.
If you read it then you have to read Carry On. That’s the fan fiction Cath is writing in FG. That was one of my favorites last year.
Ooh Amy Harmon announced The Bird and The Sword is live!! Weren’t you reading that Maryse?! How is it?
TASHA!!!!!!!
YES. YESSSS!!!!!! *wheeeeee* I knew it was going live this week, but I thought there was still a day to go. 😉 Tee hee!!
I’m almost done, review coming soon, but it’s SO good!
*switches screen over to Amazon page and buys Undecided*
Ummm…I have no idea why I just did that. It was like I was in a fugue state or something. The last thing I remember clearly was Ela screaming about sobbing and my cringing reaction to even thinking about reading that book. I think I went into shock and buying a different book was my only way out.
LOL Grace!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG that was hilarious. And tonight, YOU win the internet. 😉
I’ve been reading samples all evening and some interest me but not enough to one-click. Now, after reading The Bird and the Sword I think I’m going to start it. One, because I loved the writing of the sample, and two, it’s so different from anything I was planning to read. Going out of my comfort zone and reading something pnr. 🙂
Yay Grace!! I hope it is good.
Cheryl, do you read much fantasy?
YAY Cheryl!!! I went totally out of my norm with it too, and have been enjoying it.
OK, I’m clicking on a sample of The Bird and The Sword. Looks intriguing. Hope it lives up the hype.
You guys and your death club. *grins and shakes head*
Well, I’m not joining the death club either. Or the horror club. Or the cheaters club. 😉 Yeah, OK, a bit of grit and anguish is good, occasional taboo if it’s not too out there. But really, I’m just a card-carrying member of the HEA club. And I wanna know it’s going to be all good pretty much from the start, even if it’s a bit bumpy along the way. Too angsty or sca-ee and my poor heart just can’t take it. :-/
Yay, I can’t wait for your review! I swear you can’t go wrong with anything Amy Harmon writes. I may squirrel to this one next! Lol
-On a side note, completely unrelated to books what so ever, but I wanted to share my newest obsession with you guys! Have you heard of LuLaRoe?! I’m sure you have, I’m behind on nearly everything lol. But I love it! The leggings are to die for, sooo buttery soft, I could live in them. And I get a thrill when the pop up boutiques come up and you have to race to get the best prints, lol!! Because they only make 1000 of each one 😉 I’m pretty new to it so I’ve only gotten leggings, the classic, perfect, and Randy tee but love love love them all!
“My seatbelt is fastened.”
Ha! Perfect first line for me starting The Ending I Want!
Here I go! Can’t wait to meet HIM! Still a little teenie bit
apprehensive about the state my tear ducts are going to be in soon. Drinking water. Ok. Deep breaths, wasn’t there a promised bow-chicka-bow-wow? Was that for this book?
Focus on the sexy promise. Go!
35% in and I love HIM!
Bev, pretty much zero fantasy, so this is entirely out of my norm.
Jan, that is exactly how I would describe what I want from the books I read.
Rename: The Smut Loving, Cry Babies, HEA Club
FLT: “She was so small.” The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon. I’m REALLY liking this book and the MC’s “relationship” so far.
“To be fair, it’s really not my fault this time. “–Undecided by Julianna Keyes.
Go Bev! I’ll catch up to you soon!
I’m 66% into TEIW and loving it, but I’m going right into Undecided when I finish it. I almost got sidetracked by The Rule Book. I just wasn’t sure if it would be as good as the blurb makes it out to be. Did you read it?
Bev, I keep eyeballing that one in my Kindle library. Is that the one Grace clicked in a fugue state yesterday? In fact, I’m wondering if that’s the one which has been mentioned a handful of times here…let me know if it’s a “me” book. *snort* I love how y’all know me well enough to know if a book is for me or not. 😉
Okay, I was debating between the first line of the prologue and the first line of the first chapter. I figured a nice little shock for y’all on this fine mornin’ would be funny so…
FLT
“F*ck, baby, I can smell that sweet pu$$y all the way over here.” ~ Slammer by Tabatha Vargo
😛
I’ve got same first line as Bev. I read sample and got hooked right away. I like the heroine, so that is a huge plus. Let’s see if it lives up to the comparisons!!!
Then I’ll go try Amy Harmon’s fantasy book, because I like what else she’s written & thsts my favorite genre, so win-win again.
Now I have too many books I’m juggling. Feast or famin always with me.
GASP!!! Imnit a huge fan of going right for filthy talk in line one of a book. Just to grab the reader. And make them picture the scene, that’s probably super hot, and how he must look right that second…. Oh, who am I kidding? I buy this stuff non stop!
MichelleS, I’m not too far in, but I like it. 25% so the part when she was waiting to go to the French restaurant. Grr.
Grace, I still have not started it , lol. I change books often.
*Jaw drops as she looks over at Amy*
Pauses….
*Lowers phone so hubby can’t see her looking up a book called Slammer while they are watching TV*
Pauses….
*Reads description, then the warning, then sees first review title “Holy Mother Of All Things Holy” 2 Holies … And CLICK!*
No problems Bev!
AMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO JOINING YOU! WITH A FIRST LINE LIKE THAT BAM!
SQUIRREL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Changed my mind! Going with Undecided!
FLT
Same as Bev’s
Amy, you haven’t finished that one they? Seriously need an honesty opinion on it to know if the feelings I felt at the end was just me or not.
66% into TEIW lots of laughs eyes still dry. Pleasantly surprised.
FLT: ‘ The house burns, flames licking at the dark sky, turning the pitch of night into a violent sunset of oranges and reds.’ House of Ravens by Karpov Kinrade. Great series so far.
Well, thanks to Amy I know what I’m reading after I finish TBATS!! 🙂
Love is Strange (I Know… #2) by Whitney Bianca went live…
TEIW – Totally lovely! Not a horrible death book at all. Nothing for me to have been so afraid of, and I’m heaving a big sigh of contentment and relief.
I read Slammer before too Tessa and I think we were on the same wavelength..
I’m writing a fan fiction for a soap believe it or not, and I don’t even watch it anymore, SMDH… The things I do for my friends…LOL!
Finally finished The 5th Wave and onto the next so here is my first line Thursday: It was raining. The Fall Up by Aly Martinez. I know, that was epic! Lol 😛
That first line in Slammer…the context might surprise you. 😉
Tessa…nope, not finished yet. I’ve had 3 different unit exams and another research paper due so far this week so not a whole lot of reading time. I’m enjoying it so far but we’ll see how the rest goes. I should finish it up tonight and then I’m on to The Empty Jar!
Anne??? Anne???? Did you see this???? Looook!!!!
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2016/05/lisa-kleypas-announces-next-book-devil-spring/
Yay Amy!!!!!!!! YOU WILL SO LOVE THE EMPTY JAR, JUST KEEP THE TISSUES AND ALCOHOL READY… 🙂
Squeeee!!!!! I received my IPSY bag today. Really cool looking envelope style makeup bag, small contour brush, epice hydrating mask , Biossance moisturizing concentrate, Smashbox x-rated mascara, and last but not least Hikari shimmer bronzer, that I know I’m going to have to find a tutorial on to use correctly!! 😉
Now after I cool off from my run, I’m going back to TBATS, which I am really loving. Beautiful writing!!
OHHHHH IPSY TALK!!!!!!!
I just got mine today. Mine was the blue envelope make up bag? What color was yours Cheryl? I wanted pink, but I’m good with anything Ipsy decides for me.
I got the Neutrogena lip crayon/balm (in that almond nude color) and it suits me perfectly. My lips feel so nice right now and it’s just enough neutral color to feel pretty.
I got the Smashbox mascara. I can’t wait to try it, but NOTHING surpasses my Yves St Laurent Effets Faux Cils although I’m always game to try a new one.
I got that really EXPENSIVE lip balm (and I’m a lip balm addict so they can NEVER go wrong with me when it comes to those). I lip balm all day and right before bed, if I don’t already have lipstick on). The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm
And i did get the hydrating mask too, and i’m totally using it tonight during my bubble bath!!! 😀 Is that TMI? *snort* 😛
I got the umm… the eyeshadow trio that is SO pretty. Perfect neutral beiges and browns that I can blend to perfection. I haven’t tried it yet. Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow Trio <--- I can't wait for tomorrow so I can try this (I already have makeup on right now).
MichelleS & Ela, I’m really enjoying this book.
I snorted at “That’s probably it,”I say, barely succeeding at keeping a straight face. “Just support his magic a bit more.”
There has got to be a Kleypas fan who can be as excited as I on here.
Yay Grace! You love HIM too!!!! HE was the bow-chicks-wow-wow!
FLT….
‘I stepped out of my house, clad only in a pair of jeans and nothing else, and slowly started towards my neighbor’s house.’ Jack & Coke by Lani Lynn Vale

FLT
“THE DOOR closed with a quiet click that echoed through my skull as though it had been slammed shut.”
A Kind of Truth by Lane Hayes
The first line maybe doesn’t do it justice. For lovers of mm romance and music or rock star themes, this one is top notch. The book and the audio version are both excellent. I was not able to pull myself away from this for even a few minutes. I had to read it from front to back without pause.
That’s why my FLT is so late…I’ve been reading all day.
FLT – “Lesson number one in making a deal with the devil… never trust the devil.” Midnight Star by Karpov Kinrade
Amy, I’m finishing up and then onto The Empty Jar tomorrow. Per Ela, I’m ready for a SOBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGGG FEST OF A BOOK! It’s all in CAPS now. It’s serious death club reading material.
DG!
I did, I DID! I was blown away by that first meeting! Utterly coolest fantasy first meeting ever! Then he just kept getting better and better! Not a fun bum fan, but they had me laughing quickly so it was relatively…painless. Ugh.
On to Undecided! Go me!
Finished. I really liked it, loved Crosbie.
Finished Slammer.
Um…
*scratches head*
Yeahhhhhh…it was a no-go for me. I’m with ya, Tessa. The first half was enjoyable for the most part, nothing spectacular but still kind of fun. The last half though was just…awkward. I honestly can’t say I would recommend it. 😕 I know that sounds harsh, but there it is.
That being said…I AM READY FOR THE SOB FEST THAT IS EMPTY JAR, MICHELLE!! 😀
Freaking loving Undecided! It’s got such delicious buildup! Which seems to only continue building. 54% in and enjoying every second of it.
First line Friday….and this one’s for Amy….
‘Flesh was a strange color for nail polish’.
The Player & the Pixie by Penny Reid & L Cosway.
😉
Ooo…kay, guess I’m not reading Slammer next. Have to look at my tbr list and the one’s rec’s above (TEIW, Undecided), or one of the new releases Maryse will post today. I just know I. AM. NOT. reading the SOB FEST ONE!!
LOL Cheryl! I’m no longer looking forward to Slammer now myself. Both Undecided and TEIW were really good. You won’t go wrong with either one.
Yep, Amy… see… I wanted to warn you. Tessa and I both hated it.
Who gets a little freaked when it is a Friday the 13th?
Friday the 13th excites me! It’s an excuse to watch or read horror!!! YAY!! 😀
Stay strong against the death book, Cheryl.
THE DEATH BOOK WAS AWESOME SAUCE *SNIFF SNIFF*
It is Friday the 13th – thanks for pointing that out! I’m too big a baby to read the death book no matter how much Ela or any death clubbers loved the sobbing…. So I’m reading Evil by Tijan instead. Released today. Perfect!
See, the issue I had with Slammer wasn’t necessarily the direction it took or how it ended, it was the writing. The sequence of events *could* have been pulled off if written the right way. It just seemed…amateurish, I guess? Amateurish and awkward.
Damn, I sound like a snobbish book b!tch. 😕
Sometimes Amy, and Tessa, it’s good to get a “writing-perspective-feel” from readers, ya know? And I’m glad you say it, when you come across it.
I know what you’re saying as that has happened to me before (often the cause of my DNF). Good story, lots of promise, but something choppy or just… not smooth, about the writing. And I just can’t become invested.
Oooooh, guys! I just was that Evil by Tijan is paranormal…I might just squirrel!!!! 😀
Michelle, we were reading the same author? We really are book twins.
Amy! Exactly. By the the that book was done I should have been in ugly tears. Instead I was juat uncomgortable. Then I was angry that I wasn’t sad. Now to look at Evil. The little releases she did had me hooked. However, I’m still in Florida, so…
Juat uncomgortable? Really phone? Really?
Tessa is drunk already!!! LOL!!!!! 😛
Lol. Tonight I will be.
Backtracking… the comments look SO very fun!!! But I have no idea what’s happening. LOL!
It’s Friday the 13th – I didn’t even realize but that explains why I’m just getting home after an explosion of crazy today with all the puppies and kitties!
Got the Tijan book since KU but committed to The Empty Jar…except too tired tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow.
Tessa, great minds and all…
UGH!! No Ipsy talk from me ’cause I didn’t get the fun stuff I wanted.
*eyes Maryse’s Neutrogena lip crayon* Like that one!!!
I got the blue bag as well. I also got the Smashbox X-Rated mascara (I’ve tried it before and really liked it, but you’re right about the YSL mascara…YOU are the one who actually got me hooked on it ;)) and the hydrating mask.
I got an INSPR Beauty eye fluff (*snort*) brush, but it’s bent from being in the bag!
I also got 3 SOO AE collagen sheet masks (???) and a full-size Hikari shimmer bronzer, but I’m pretty loyal to my Anastasia contour kit and my MAC blushes (Blushbaby, Buff, Melba, and Cheek Pollen…Sunbasque if I’m feeling REALLY adventurous) for my cheeks and I’m not big on bronzers since I’m more fair skinned than not.
Wowwwwww…don’t I sound like an ungrateful little snot!!!
A little late but…
That is a GREAT first line, Lisa!!! 😀
