Today was a serious indie (& “hybrid” indie) powerhouse book release day and I need to highlight at least 10 of ’em that sound awesome. Like…
November Nine: A Novel by Colleen Hoover (I read it, great little slow burn love story for sure!), If You Dare by A. E. Torre (Alessandra Torre ALERT! I LOVE everything she writes & I have no doubt this one will be awesome!), Reaper’s Fall (Reapers Motorcycle Club) by Joanna Wylde (she’s been writing to a lonely prisoner, and he’s just been released), Easy Melody (The Boudreaux Series Book 3) by Kristen Proby (sounds like a sweet girl meets boy in a bar love story), Reap: A Scarred Souls Novel by Tillie Cole (Russian Mafia captive and he’s more monster than man, but she wants to save him!), Semper Fi: The Education of Caroline: The Education of Caroline (The Education Series Book 3) by Jane Harvey-Berrick (hugely popular series and this one is told from another POV), When I Was Yours by Samantha Towle (they get married on the fly in Vegas way too young, and then she leaves him a week later), and Tryst: A Sexual Education Novel by S.L. Jennings (her husband lets her fulfill her fantasies with another man and she doesn’t want to go back to the way it was before…)
A few extras that caught my eye that I didn’t know about? Rolling in the Deep (single mom works in a grocery store and cute customer she’s crushing on splits lottery ticket with her – and they win!!!!), Love And Other Alien Experiences (she’s agoraphobic and hasn’t left her house in years and does her schooling online, but has a plan to get a date with the school hottie…), The Devil’s Playground (she’s married and lonely and tempted by a cop…), Rule Breaker (she’s a prison nurse and she falls for a prisoner!!)

Amelia Hutchins also released A Demon’s Dark Embrace (The Elite Guards #1)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Fae Chronicles spin off (kind of)….this is where she focuses on Ryder’s brothers 🙂
Thank you Ela!! I’m adding it. 😀
Guys you have to see the cover on Callie Harts new book out 11-17
Check her FB page.
A bit off topic but Kitty Thomas’s Comfort Food is $.99 and I’ve had it on my wish list forever. I’m a bit scared to be honest but excited too!
Oh I love that one, Tracy!!!! But yes… it’s definitely dark and a psych-thriller/horror/love story? LOL!! That last part is to be debated. 😉
Definitely not a romance, but you know how Stockholm syndrome works.
Oh I’m going to check it out right now Theresa!! Thank you! 😀
Wow what a list! November 9, A Devils Playground, when I Was Yours, and Love and Other Alien Experiences are all going on my list! And I’m doing really well reading the books off my tbr list, which never happens but it feels so good, like the relief and accomplishment one feels after finally organizing a particularly messy room that hasn’t been touched in…months….lol. But at the same time I read these lists every week and I want to read these books.Right now. *sigh* But there’s just not enough time to read them all, and then, *new books (oh that blurb)*!! Haha, I just put them in that messy room. 😛 I’m reading Room 212, no clue when I put it on my list or what it was about, but it’s good! I’m getting all the feels and really into it!
Nov 9 is mine, mine, all mine. 🙂
Tasha, I remember reading Room 212. It was so good! It was one of Amy’s recs.
November 9, Tryst, The Demon’s Embrace, Reap…just too many! But I’m loving it!
I have Room 212 on my TBR…
When I Was Yours, Tryst, Rolling in the Deep, Poles Apart, Love and Other Alien Things, Tangled, Third Base, Mechanic….. damn my head is spinning out of control! Too damn much!
I’m on the 2nd book of the Game On series (The Friend Zone) by Kristen Callihan and I am loving this series! If you all loved The Deal and The Mistake by Elle Kennedy, you will love these too! Just sayin……
I finished Pucked Up, The Pact and now reading The Offer and wanted to get book 2 of the Game On series but sometimes I need to go to the dark side after reading some of these less angsty (but still really good books). So I think I’ll do Comfort Food next because Maryse loves it and doesn’t steer me wrong!
Tracy, I get it. I have had Comfort Food on my Kindle for over a year and still scared to read it!
How did you like Pucked Up? Heard it wasn’t as good as Pucked, but that’s okay, I’ll still read it. Gotta get to The Pact and The Offer just to get to The Play which I’m hearing is the best of the 3!
*begins cursing* So, of cuorse I had to get Demon’s Dark Embrace. Top that off with my monitored died for a few days… The cord died, thankfully, so it was an easy fix, but still! After Christmas, new monitor!
I’ve also had Comfort Food on my list for a while. That cheap, it’s mine. Last, When I was Yours. I don’t know who published the blurb a long time ago, but I was caught right away. So, for a girl intent on not buying anything and instead just write, GEESH! 🙂
I was actually going to BR Comfort Food with a group of my pals but was too slow and once they started commenting on some of the stuff…I said NO THANK YOU.
Of course you HAD TO GET A DEMON’S DARK EMBRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course! 😀 I also HAD to get When I was Yours. That thing has been waiting in my wishlist to just be released.
So I just read a bunch of spoilers on GR of Comfort Food and I’m still sticking to my nope!
Tessa! I also super excited about Reap! Loved Raze.
Mechanic by Alexa Riley has a bonus book included…..so TWO books for $.99!!!!
Jean – I’ll admit I didn’t liked Pucked Up as much as Pucked but I didn’t mind. I didn’t hear that The Play was the best of the 3. Definitely will put it on my list.
FYI….if you’re a fan of Nancy Haviland (Wanted Men series), you’ll probably love His Young Queen (Steel Jackals MC) by Tiff P. Raine because they are the same person.
Wait wait waiiiiiit Tracy!
I don’t “steer” wrong… no… but beware of genres. This is dark. Like… Captive in the Dark, dark. Maybe even darker, but no… I’m thinking on par.
But yes… I am the psych-thriller freak that loves when an author explores the effects of Stockholm syndrome, I cringed like mad, and yet enjoyed it, big time. I didn’t think I was enjoying it ’cause I felt a bit traumatized, but since I didn’t put it down, I realized it was awesome. 😛
Mind you it was my very first read like this, ever, so I was blown away and hid it “in the closet” for a couple of years before I finally let everyone know.. LOL!!
Thanks for that info on Mechanic Lauren! I’m 1-clicking it now!
*squeals* I’ve been waiting for When I Was Yours for a while now!!!!! 😀 No idea if it’s going to be any good, but I am as much a sucker for titles that *oomph* me as I am for unique covers.
I LOVE covers that stand out from the rest. I’m a hot-blooded female so of course I like looking at those man candy covers, and the ones with couples on the front are sometimes nice, but what gets my attention and says “READ ME NOW!!” are the covers that are different from what seems to be the standard in CR nowadays. Like Badger…that cover caught my attention immediately, and then I was sold once I saw the blurb. Same with Jezebel.
I’ve probably mentioned this before, so if I have then just ignore me (if you weren’t already *snort*) but I don’t like the new Wilson Mooney book covers…when they were the blue and green with a butterfly, they seemed girlish and fitting for a HS teacher-student romance. NOW they have more grown-up covers with a couple on them and seem to just be…I dunno…absorbed, I guess, by all of the other similar covers.
Dang, that was a long, ranty post. Sorry. 😕
Jean! I’m starting your Wither tonight!! Does it wrap up like UTEOTW did, even though it is the first in a series? I can’t remember if you said or not…
Yay Amy! Yes, it does wrap up and sets you up for the next book! I hope you like it!
Oh and Amy, how could anyone possibly ignore you! Lol!
Oh Maryse – no worries. I like ok love dark reads! I read the Captive in the Dark series because of your blog as well as the Original Sinners series. Actually I was going to start the 5th book in that series when I stumbled onto Comfort Food at $.99.
*snicker* No idea why you would say that, Jean. It’s not like I’m obnoxious or anything. 😛 I can just see all of the eye rolling going on right now…
“…hid it “in the closet” for a couple of years before I finally let everyone know..” <——- Right?!? I have some that I didn't have the nerve to talk about or tell anybody that I had read until I found this awesome group of ladies and realized that there's no judgement here. It's "safe." 😉
And then imagine how ecstatic I was when I realized that there are *actually* ladies that love to get wrung out emotionally by books like I do, LOL!!
So looking forward to Nov. 9!!! So excited to read it but I picked up End of Day on a whim yesterday and am so hooked. Holy WOW, the emotions. It is PHENOMENAL and feels so different. It has absolutely every feeling, slow build, craziness, sassy, gritty, dark…… I was feeling in a book slump and now plan to read everything by Jewel E. Ann. I’m reading the sequel now but the third doesn’t come out until next year? Maryse do you know when next year by chance? Has anyone else read it?
I judge.
*shrug*
Not really. 😉
Too many good books again! I have so many books in the que right now it isn’t funny.
Also if you are a Kele Moon fan her first 2 Eden books have been revamped and are on sale for .99. Plus, there is a sneak preview of Claiming Eden, which is up for pre-order and comes out in January in Finding Eden. Whew!
I made a “to read next” list on an Excel spreadsheet today. :-0 I already have 3 on my Kindle and 1 on Goodreads. But I wanted to line up the next handful of books that I absolutely want to read before the end of the year. I knew I had at least 4 or 5.
Weeellll – when my list crossed the 15 mark I threw my hands up in surrender.
Really? Really? 4 “to read next lists”? That’s it!!! I’m hiring reading help.
Marina, Im reading End Of Day right now and am at 50%. Jewel E Ann is my new favorite author so I tried and tried holding off starting this series till all 3 were released but so many great reviews and recommendations I couldn’t hold off any longer! I LOVE it- I cant put this book down! I knew I would, all of her books are awesome! I love her writing and the main characters-I fall in love with them all. I would like to meet her, I bet she is a hoot! According to her Facebook page, she is writing the 3rd right now and hopes to have it released very early next year. Oh and try her Holding You series. It was fantastic!
fabi I think I have 10 tbr lists? Maybe more… and I continue to add. *shakes head*
Shirley I loved one in the Holding You series!!
Robyn I love the Eden books!!! Now that is threesome angst right there!!
*phew* good to know Tracy… I always worry a little… Tee hee!!
Amy you are SO right!!!!
This is our safe book club/blankie-fort!!!
Fabi, what’s on your list?
Shirley so glad to hear her other books are great too. I have Unbelievably You on my TBR but will def read all others too including the Holding You series. Her writing feels unique and fresh… so many books, need more time…
Wow. What. A. List!!! So many I want. I started When I Was Yours. So far so good, but I was surprised it’s from the H’s POV.
Amy, I have to agree about cover’s. I am drawn to some books because I have a connection with the cover.
Jean I thought book #1 The Pact was the best of the 3. Just my humble opinion. Love the Game On series.
Maryse, the bearded guy on the cover of Mechanic reminds me of the one on the cover of The Air He Breathes. Beards may be growing on me. (No pun intended)!! 😉
Whoa, I was wrong. When I Was Yours is from both POV’s. Just started in his.
Ok so I’m 60% into Room 212 and can I just say, omg the drama!! Lol I’m haven’t read such an angsty you book in ages! Love it 🙂
Whoa, whoa, whoa…Room 212?!?
*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!*
It’s one of my favorites!! 😀 Fabi was ready to pummel me while she was reading it though. *snicker*
Maryse, now I don’t feel so bad. lol
Bev, which list? The one I made in Excel today? It’s on my computer at work.
But the top three are Illuminae which is hard cover so I’m reading at night when I get home. On Paper which is on my Kindle app so I’m reading on breaks/lunch at work. And November 9 I got as an audio book and started listening to it today during my drive to and from work.
I don’t remember all the ones on my list (I’m going to call it my “before the end of the year list” ) but I know S. Kenyon’s new League one is next. Shay Savage’s Caged series since its now complete. I want to finish the last two in the Gentry boys series. The last Evan Arden. The last Maddox Brothers one. Sidekicks. Pucked Up. And I don’t remember if there are others on the list. I thought I had 4-5 I wanted to finish before the end of the year so I’m pretty depressed my list went to 16 in the blink of an eye. I can’t even look at my “read next” “must read” and “reader favorites” lists. I might start crying. My “all” tbr is well over a thousand.
I love being here with you guys. It’s like a support group. So many of us have multiple lists or lists of lists (Maryse). Many of us have tbr lists in the thousand range or two thousand range (Amy). And I’m jealous and inspired by those of you who are reading 250+ books a year (Michelle, Tessa). I’m also a little in awe that fellow readers are participating in NanoWriMo2015 (Tessa, Grey).
What are you reading Bev? Do you have some that you want to get to by the end of the year?
How about the rest of you? Are there any in your tbr or soon to be released that you really want to read before the end of 2015?
Noooo, I loved it!!! I hated the big time lapse (you know what I mean – I don’t want to spoil anything). But I loved loved loved the book. Did Maryse ever read it? It’s right up her reading alley.
The one I wanna kill some of y’all over is Rainfall. I was traumatised for life over that one. I’m still seeking therapy.
Aw Fabi, feeling overwhelmed by our TBR lists is rotten…and you’re right about this being like a support group. If it’s reading related, we can all understand and sympathize. We. Just. Get. It. 😉
Crying over a TBR list? You’re in good company. I nearly started crying the other day when I realized that I will probably never read all of the books in my Kindle library, and it felt devastating. Who the heck feels that way over books? Oh, that’s right…we do. Yeah, yeah, I know…first-world problems and all that but WHATEVER. I know y’all get it and I love y’all for it!
She did read it, Fabi! After my nagging and nagging and more nagging, she finally gave in. *giggle* And if I remember correctly, she gave it four stars! 😀
That’s right! You were NOT pleased with us over that one. 😛
Besides the obvious ones on this list, I want to read 11 under paranormal, Rise of the Fae, sounds different and I’m always looking for that!
I should try to make another tbr today with books I definitely want to finish by the end of the year. I want to read 38 more books to get to 250 but it might not happen this year since I got behind my pace by too much. I do have some vacation coming up but not a lot.
I’m picking something from my TBR for today and then I’m going to try out Wither because it’s got me intrigued 🙂 but I hope I do not cry my eyes out like UTEOTW!
Fabi, when I think of all the books I have then like Amy I get upset. At first, yes I was trying to stick to a list. Sometimes that is the way I get myself to start certain books. But this last two weeks I have given it up. At least until the end of the year and just going with how I feel. I just started Star Dust & just finished Commodity.
There is one book I do want to read before the end of the year. The Bronze Horseman. Have you read it?
Jean, is the br for The Bronze Horseman still on?
Hmm. Forgot about Wither. I grabbed it on sale & after Jean’s reaction, maybe that will be next.:-)
I like the cover & another dystopian might be fun. We will see.
Oh yes The Bronze Horseman I HAVE TO read by the end of the year. I’ve put it off for too long when I know I will love it!
I just finished The Queen by Tiffany Reisz…. and I’m crying. Yeah… talk about a sap, I need Manny and a blankie fort and a glass of wine stat… yes, I realize that it is 10am, and a Wednesday, but it’s a holiday here in the US and I’m off today… and… it’s the end of the Original Sinners series, and… and… and. I’m sad girls
Major book hangover.
Plus I’ve hit the dreaded week 2 all of Nanowrimo. Gah, why do I do this to myself every year *smacks self in the head*
On a different, note I didn’t say happier, note. There are several books here that look promising…November 9, Tryst, The education of Caroline, Rule Breaker, #Jerk, If you Dare… wowsa… come on December!!!
Anyhow, hi all! I miss you!
I finished November 9…. didn’t like it. Didn’t work for me at all. I LOVE Coho and will continue to read anything she writes but I just didn’t like this one for many reasons…
Grey, good luck.
So, Tessa & Grey are the two of you authors and not telling us?
Michelle are you going to br The bronze Horseman with us? We had thought to start it on the 5th of Dec.
Yes bev, I’m still up for BR of Bronze Horseman December 5th!!
Fabi, I can’t even keep track of what I need to or want to read by the end of the year. It’s constantly changing! I feel like I need to finish up some of the series I’ve started, but then I get sidetracked!
Holy moly!!! There is no easing into the story with Wither…it starts off with a bang while we are still trying to get to know the h, but it’s working and I like it!
Wham, bam, screw you ma’am. That about sums up the opening scene for me. Except there is no actual screwing. And the wham-bam is literal. But not in the sexy time sense. I’m pretty darn eloquent, right? *snort*
Right Amy? I was pretty much on the edge of my seat that whole book……couldn’t put it down until the end! Keep me updated!
Fabi, I have no idea how you are reading 3 books in various formats at the same time! How are you liking On Paper?
Yay, Jean.
Wither is definitely next.
Did you all see this? Harlequin has like 10,000 titles on sale. https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2015/11/recommendations-for-the-harlequin-sale-anyone/
Hope you like it bev!
Bev, that’s the same question I asked Tessa and Grey. :-O We have writers among us!
Jean, I am at 10% of On Paper and simply loving it. I am a little hesitant because I read somewhere that people were not 100% happy with it. We’ll see I guess. So far, I seriously love it. My only complaint is my usual “could use a little more copyediting”. I swear, next year when I have fewer jobs to keep up with, I’m going to sell copyediting services. I may not have a single creative bone in my body, but I can spot a typo a mile away (as long as I’m not the one typing it). 🙂
Michelle, if you read Rise of the Fae, please let me know. As you can imagine, I’ve been side-eyeing that one.
PS. I’m a third of the way into Illuminae. Jaw on the floor! …and oh, oh, oh…I have a sneaky suspicion about something…
Where is MichelleS? She’s our resident Fae expert. I bet she’ll read Rise of the Fae.
Thanks Fabi! I’m the same way with typos….makes me crazy! Keep saying I should be in editing not the stupid legal field!
I am seeing a lot of people not liking November 9 all too much as it being just ok of a book.
Tbr lists- talk about depressing. I have a tbr list and a tbr next list that I am frequently adding/changing. Always trying to think of the best way to stay organized and plan my next read. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter in the end because it’s not like I’m sticking with it. I think it just makes me feel a little better in keeping up the appearance that I have a plan. *snort* Amy, I’ll probably never read all the books on my list either. 😉
Still listening to The Girl in 6E- it’s sooo different from any other book A. Torre has written and I started reading When I Was Yours- which I’m really liking even though it’s told from both pov’s.
I’m at 15% of On Paper and simply loving it. Amy, the h reminds me of you in how she says what she’s thinking even when it’s slightly inappropriate. But its her friend’s outgoing personality that is most like yours. In fact, I can picture you and Maryse as these two. The H is smooth and charming and good looking. He’s also totally intrigued and attracted to h. —yup, I’m seriously liking this book.
If you are a Bella Jewel fan she has just released “How to fall in love” which contains 4 of her standalone novels : Flawed Heart, Flawed Love, Wingman and Number Thirteen FOR ONLY 99c. I have read them all, and they are all great.
I read Room 212 some time ago, and it is still one of my favorites. Kate Stewarts other book – Never Me – is just as good.
Finished Star Dust. I liked it well enough—but didn’t love it. I love the premise but it was missing something, lol.
Next, Wither.
Bev, nope. It’s just an over active imagination and really just wanting to get the story down. Last year, when I was done, well, um, it kinda sucked. You know those books we all hate where nothing bad EVER happens to the main character. 🙂 Yep! So, this year my goal isn’t the 50k so much as just write something I’d actually like.
GENTRY BOYS (Books 1-4) by Cora Brent is only 0.99 right now!
Its really cool though, Tessa. When you are done you’ll have to come and write up a blurb for us.
Fabi, On Paper, by Shae Scott? I didn’t see that one of above list, is it from a previous list?
Well… I write, therefore I’m an author, I guess *sheepish grin* I’m also the one who cursed a blue streak in here when we read Jezebel, remember? haha!
This is my 3rd year in a row doing NaNaWriMo, I’ve won both years so far, nervous about this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to pull it out *heads out of the gutter, naughties*. But I will say, it’s unbelievably hard, *oh, did I mention, my work is definitely intended for mature audiences haha!*! Anyway… 50k words in 30 days… Even to someone as verbose as myself, it’s…intense!
So… I need to pick a new book to reward myself with during my down time, and get myself back to work. I haven’t read 212… or Rainfall… Fabi, Amy, Bev, Jean, Michelle, Tessa???
Grey-congrats on your writing success! I would not rec Rainfall for a reward downtime book, unless you like the ugly cry. Just saying…
That’s the one Cheryl. It was on Friday’s list: https://www.maryse.net/news/bargain-and-freebie-ebooks/friday-finds-20-of-the-latest-bargain-e-books-reader-recommendations-november-6th-2015.html
Grey! *thud* *dies* Seriously woman?! You just now think to tell us you’re an author? Are you going to share your work with us? *eyes bugging out* *dying, dying, dying* You’ve WON NaNoWriMo two years in a row!!! — that’s it, I can’t talk to you anymore, I’m completely tongue tied and star struck. I have no idea how Maryse does it.
Grey, that’s great. You’ll have to write us a blurb when done, too.
That is the wrong question for bev as bev has not read those books, lol. Well……..I read the end of Rainfall.
Grey, that is awesome!!!! I ditto what Fabi said!
And oops, I was going to say read Rainfall……though Cheryl is right not a totally happy read…..it’s downright crazy and totally memorable! But then so is 212. Are they the only choices you are giving yourself?
Lol, Fabi.
So, question. Would you ladies be comfortable if the authors we read hung out on here?
I agree with Kitty Thomas and thought her response on Saturday favorite was awesome.
Gah! Are you trying to kill me? I am really shy (stop laughing!). I am! and I’m completely star struck by authors. Put me at the dinner table with any movie star and – meh. Put me anywhere near an author and :-0
I’ve been reading (a lot) since middle school. Last year was the first time I had enough courage to write to an author saying how much I liked their book. You should have seen me when I got a thank you reply! Picture a crazy woman jumping up and down in circles and waving arms like chicken wings.
Nah, I’m not in awe of Tessa and Grey (who WON NanoWriMo the last two years!!!) ugh ugh ugh dying dying dying
Here I’ve been talking to them without even knowing. *drops face on desk* I thought I was being brave talking to Maryse, with her awesome blog and reviews. *shaking head* I can’t…just can’t believe this.
So. Then. Amy? Fabi needs to go to RT with you.
I know tomorrow is first line Thursday BUT Heroes & Heartbreakers is playing a game. Lets do it here. Since it is 11/11 today they are posting the 11th line of current page of current read. I haven’t started mine yet so it will be 11th sentence of the book. Lets see……….
“Condensation from my breath hangs before my mouth and a slight tremor has begun in my lips.” ~Wither by Amy Miles.
OMG GREY WON?!!! WOW… WHOA. That. Is. HUGE!!!! We have stars amongst our peanut gallery!!!! 😀 *squeeeeeeeeeee*!!!!!!!
see? see? see? up there – look
I’m not the ONLY one.
Bev, the book I’m reading begins at an RT convention. So cool. I’ve been to a couple of them. A YA one and the last RT here in Dallas. But I didn’t approach any authors! lol
Super cool game. But…how do I find the 11th line of my audiobook? 😉
…and Illuminae is at home
On Paper: “The stab of disappointment and annoyance surprised me.”
Fabi, what did you do & who’d you see at RT.
It was in Dallas and I live near there so I just popped in for a couple of hours and walked around picking my jaw up off the floor. I didn’t do anything or interact with anyone. (but I went! – hahaha)
I went to the North Texas Teen Book Festival in Irving earlier this year. I “tried” to go into a couple of the panel rooms. It was so so crowded that you had to elbow your way through anything and everything.
fabi. I WAS at RT in Dallas. How did we not meet??!!!
Maryse, I’m way too shy to meet you in person. *eyeing the underside of my desk* I’m getting the urge to hide just thinking about it.
Fabi!!!! That would be me. I’d just want to sit in the back & listen to the panel, not meet anyone. If I was going to RT & saw Maryse I honestly wouldn’t say hi either, lol.
I’m not going to Vegas but we totally could have sat in corners together and whispered behind are kindles. “Look its Maryse so that short one must be Amy.”
Oh. EM. GEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Ummm… P.S. I AM the short one. Seriously. As short as short gets. 😛
And GAH!!!! You MUST come to talk to me if we are in the same area together. We are family!!!!!!
*runs away sobbing*
Oh noooo. We made Maryse cry. *jumps up from underneath desk*
*runs after Maryse*
“Hiiiii, hi Hi hi, hiiiiiii” hugz! Amy, Amy! Where’s Manny? Quick…
*snuffles all over fabi*
Where’s bev? I wanna snuffle.
Whoa, I have some chatting to catch up on here!
*starts to scroll back up*
*stops mid scroll*
*gasps*
What happened that made Maryse run away sobbing?!?!?
*waves*
*reads comments*
Okay, *I* feel like sobbing now just thinking about any of y’all hiding from any of us…we ARE family like Maryse said, so no hiding!
*in a sing-songy voice* Bev is gonna get snuffled on!! 😛
Bev! So help me, you better not be grinning about making Maryse cry while you’re waving up there or you are gonna get hugged on as well as snuffled on!
Hmmm well I’m out of town that weekend for the BR but I will start on Dec 9th when I get back. It’s really long right so you all may still be reading then!
Fabi, I have no idea how you are not staying up all night to finish Illuminae! When I got a third of the way in, that’s when I posted and knew KNEW it was 5* for sure amazing and could not put it down after that! And seriously Bev and you would both ignore poor Maryse if you saw her in person…I mean I shouldn’t laugh but I am picturing you hiding behind a newspaper or something lol.
Grey, OMIGOD!! I like how you just slipped that in all matter of fact too! I haven’t read 212 or Rainfall *hides*
I knew it was a 5* after (no, “during”) the 1st page. I never want it to end!
Oh Tessa, you read Touched by AJ Aalto and liked it I believe. I LOVE that whole series so far and book 3 is free right now. I’m dying for the next one!
go ahead, newspaper me shy
nothing against Maryse, or anyone else, but she’s “famous”
*runs and hides* but NOT from Maryse
Seriously guys, I have this little butterfly switch on my back – it’s my “on” switch. Whenever I have to walk into a boardroom – or a classroom for that matter, I turn my butterfly switch on so I can fake my way into being an outgoing, poised and knowledgeable professional. I learned it in a leadership conference 15-20 years ago and it literally changed my life. Before that, I would panic every time I had to speak in front of people.
All that to say, please don’t take it personally Maryse. I luffs ya! I’m just naturally shy, but I promise to come by and say hello next time we’re in the same location.
Haha what Fabi…the first page, that’s ridiculous 😉
huh? I wasn’t exagerating. By the time I finished fondling the book and started reading the first page, it was a sure think. 😉
See, I totally get Fabi. I even sometimes have a hard time saying hi to people I know irl.
I think it can be very hard for people who are not truly shy to really understand. Though I am way way better than I used to be. One of the good things about age, I guess.
“sometimes have a hard time saying hi to people I know irl” <– ditto
I bet you have a hard time even meeting your neighbors at first. (I have new neighbors 🙁
Michelle, I hope you are going somewhere fun. And yes, will probably still be reading it. Or, Jean, move it to the 9th?
We just randomly decided on a December date. We were advised it was a cold weather book.
‘fondling the book’ too…oh boy I do not even want to think about what that poor book will go through by the end 😉 *whines* but seriously get reading so you can get to the crazy gut punches and swooning and AIDAN and the ‘stop looking at me’ creepy times
Oh, Fabi. Ouch. And you want to know a few. I know a few and they are great.
Hmm. The yodeling is a good ice breaker conversation, too. 😉
Didn’t Maryse just move? Maryse how’d you meet your neighbors?
Don’t move your BR on my account…I’ll probably finish before you both anyway 😉 haha! I’m going to Colorado, which I ADORE and want to live there again but I’m stuck in stupid PA…well I like PA too (grew up here) but there’s no comparison to CO for me!
Ok, I’m taking it back… I’m taking it all back *quick, name that movie quote*
I don’t want anyone to not want to talk to me! Or hide… the only hiding we do is in the blankie fort, drinking wine with Manny… remember, I’m quitting my day job and I’m going to make blankie forts in different colors and sew manatees and we’re all going to forget that I can’t sew. Right? Right.
No weirdness please! I’m terribly shy too, there’s only a couple of people in my real life that know I write. *shrug* It’s really no big deal… I am going back to hide under my rock now!
Fabi, I am intrigued about the “butterfly switch.” Would love to learn about that because it would certainly help me when i have to speak in front of large groups. *understands the shy*
Goonies?! Oh yeaaahhh…I never got my waterproof bedazzled manatee in purple…
Michelle, I think some of that has already happened. It sounds like its going to get more intense though.
Awww Grey, didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable with all my squeeling and shyness. I totally admire anyone with artistic or creative talent. Writing, drawing, painting, cooking, etc, creating anything is amazing for me because I don’t have even a pinkie nail of creativeness. I was inspired by Maryse’s plastic bag solution. I love it when people share their ideas. Books take that to the extreme since writers are sharing their imaginations and stories with us. I don’t know what I’d do with my life without books. :-). A huge congrats for the last couple of years and best of luck with this one.
Fabi, it will be an upgrade on all that and more intense yes!
Alright going to read a little and then bed because I have a lot of surgeries tomorrow. I get to neuter Andrew Lincoln…the cat hehe!
Cheryl, it was just a little something that simply clicked with me at the time. I’d always struggled horribly with public speaking. Even in front of small groups or friends. (My first B in college was in my Public Speaking class)
I had always been told to “be myself” “breathe” “relax”, etc. Ugh no help. So, during a leadership weekend retreat, one of our speakers talked about an “on switch”. He was referring to people being in a management or leadership position in their organisations who couldn’t afford to ” have a bad day” or be in a bad mood or basically not speak properly to anyone and everyone in the business environment. He explained that when we walked through the front door of the office we were to “turn on the switch”. You leave your personal life at the door and no matter what was/is going on in your life, you turn on your switch and greet people, eye to eye, exchange pleasantries and overall project a positive and cheerful disposition in the work environment.
There were a lot of other things I learned that weekend and throughout the years, but that one just clicked with me. I extended it to fit into any boardroom or classroom presentation. Nowadays I’m usually able to walk in and appear to pleasantly interact with whatever group I have to speak in front of. No one knows I took a deep breath and ” turned the switch on” before walking in. It somehow liberated me from being myself, the shy, introverted, seemingly snotty person. I wear it like a cloak and it frees me, even if only temporarily, from this paralyzing shyness. So…nothing fancy. Really its just a pretend game. *shrug* it works for me.
Ummmmm, I’m pretty sure I have a whole inch on Maryse height wise. I’m 5’1″ and I believe she’s hovering at right about 5 feet even…am I right, my fellow fun-sized friend?
Guys, I totally get the shy thing. Seriously! I had to take a speech class a few years ago because my credits wouldn’t transfer, and I ended up leaving the room so I could throw up right before my first speech. And believe it or not, until I am *completely* comfortable in an environment, I can actually seem like a b!tch. *shrugs* True story.
Grey, really?!? You won two years in a row? (note to self: look up Nanow- however it’s spelled) That is amazing, Grey! I am so excited for you and Tessa and what you two are doing this month with writing. 😀
Pia, help me and Fabi convince Grey to read Room 212 next!
Grey, I’m with the others about Rainfall…I loved, loved, LOVED that book, but the twist (however brilliant it was) will tear your heart apart. Soooo, I say go with Room 212…talk about delicious angst. And it’s tolerable angst. 😉
Fabi! It gives me the warm and fuzzies knowing I came to mind while you were reading! *squeezy hugs Fabi* And picturing me and Maryse as the two characters? Whew! I can only imagine the antics going on in your read. *snicker* Bev already said one time that if Maryse and I are in Vegas together, one of us will end up getting married there, LOL!!
Don’t feel bad you guys… I hide from delivery people. LOL!!!
Just leave it at the door. I’m such a hermit. *snort*
And they keep leaving cookies too. Oh wait… those are dog biscuits. Right. My puppy is the social one. 😉
Okay now scrolling back up to read the comments… 😛
I do enjoy us being pictured as characters in a book Amy. 😛
OMG Amy and bev, it better be to someone famous!!!
Yep! 5′ tall exactly and not an inch more. AND NOT AN INCH LESS NO MATTER WHO TRIES TO SAY I’M SHORTER!!!
grrrrrrrr
*sideeyes height naysayers*
bev.. neighbors?
What neighbors? Tee hee!!! Yes I moved… a year ago, and I really don’t… know anyone yet. Actually I’ve met them at the mailbox. It’s a nice neighborhood but I am actually quite shy in real life. There’s “homebody me” and there’s social me, and when I’m at home, I’m hiding. Trust me… i’m a bit hermity in my environment. Someone on my street even called me “the ghost” once, since i’m rarely seen.
fabi!!!
You saw my bags??!! I LOVE doing that. I’m an organization freak, and that just tickles my need-to-organize funny bone. I LOVE IT! :D!!!!
PLUS! It’s up cycling! I get a kick out of finding clever uses for stuff I’d normally throw in the recycling bin.
Oh Michelle I LOVE Colorado!!!!!!! What an amazing place. I was there in May for a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater right before I flew to Dallas for RT. Best week ever!!!
Okay, I’m in a lovey-dovey-gushy mood (probably hormones but whatever) so if you’re annoyed easily by that, I apologize in advance ’cause I’m gonna gush (again) about how much I love it here…
I love that we have all gotten to know each other first through our shared love of reading and our common reading interests before getting to know each other on a more personal level…and I love when the more quiet lurkers pop in and say hi and then tell us they feel like they know us. So to anyone out there who wants to join in on the conversations here, please do! And then keep coming back…that’s the way we all get to know each other. *snort* Listen to me talking like this is MY blog or something…sorry, Maryse!
Maryse, I said it before and I’ll say it again…if we end up in Vegas at the same time, I’m going to get you drunk and you’re going to wake up with the tattoo “Mrs. Maddox” on your hip just like Abby! 😛
*hands Maryse hooker heels* There…we can wobble around on those and DARE anyone to call us short!
Michelle…no words. But I’m cracking up that THAT is just another day at the office for you.
And last thing before I go and baste in the greatness of Wither. To all of our “shy” friends…I’m SO glad that you aren’t shy here or else I wouldn’t have met ya! 😀
Alright, I lied. I have one more thing. The RT convention next year…anyone for sure going, and where are you staying? If you don’t mind saying here, that is. I have a room booked at the Rio where it’s being held. I’m soooooooo excited for it!
Ooohhh hermitty Maryse? I love being hermitty. On occasion, I’ve been known to stay in my pajamas and ignore the door on weekends. More time to read! In fact, my bestie used to come spend the weekend with me and we’d curl up at opposite ends of the couch with a book and a glass of wine each – and not speak for hours. hahaha great friendship huh? But then, we’d talk nonstop in a car ’cause we couldn’t read. 🙂
Ugh I missed some good stuff here last night! You guys are amazing and crack me up! I too am very shy and takes me a while to open up with people. It’s great that we have each other here to talk to!
Amy and bev, are you liking Wither?
Michelle, I’m in PA too….are you in eastern or western PA?
Sideline comment on Illuminae.
I’m on page 290.
This book should not only be read, it should EXPERIENCED.
@&%#£ Amazing!
Jean, I’m in NEPA. Like Maryse said CO is amazing compared to boring PA so I’m excited to get back!
Fabi, squeeeeeee! I think you are just past one of my favorite lines and the delivery for it was BAM! “…and like roses in his hands, death blooms” one more…squeeeeee!
Oh ok, I’m in a small suburb outside of Philly. I would love to get away right now. Have a great trip!
So guys, I don’t know what to read! I am in between books and don’t even have a first line for Thursday! What to read, what to read? Geez, I only have 847 books to choose from (not including bundled series I have downloaded)…….lol!
First line Thursday!!!
“The lights flicker overhead.” ~ Wither by Amy Miles
Whatcha in the mood to read, Jean? And I am still really liking Wither. 😀
Um, a$$hole of the day award goes to me. I just parked in a spot reserved for surviving family members of those KIA. I didn’t realize it until I came out but still…it makes me an a$$hole.
Sooooo, how’s everyone doing otherwise? 😕
Ok, I picked something. Here’s my first line:
“I approach slowly, not wanting to anger it, then I position my shoe in just the right spot before I bring it down fast on top of the cockroach.” (Ripped, Cassia Leo, Shattered Hearts series) Hello Adam!
awww Amy, that was totally an accident. *hugs*
Jean, that is the awesomenest first line. You always have awesome first lines!
Just makes you human Amy.
Thanks, Fabi and Bev…I still feel like a jerk, but I have to admit that Jean’s first line cheered me up and made me snicker a bit. I loved the Shattered Hearts series!
Do you ever read the quotes Maryse uses and not remember what we were talking about or how the subject came up?
So many comments to catch up on. First, Fabi thanks for explaining about the on switch I’m going to try that next time I have to speak in front of all the school’s parents. eeek! So glad there’s no “shy” here with all our book friends!! 😉
Second, I feel tall- I’m 5’2 and 1/2 inches- so much taller than Amy & Maryse *snort*
First line: “The shower’s running.” When I Was Yours by Samantha Towle.
Aww Amy….you are a good person. Glad my first line gave you a laugh!
Yes bev, I love seeing our comments……so funny!
Amy, it was an honest mistake. *hands apple martini*
Just cause I like gift/shopping lists.:-)

Maryse, your glasses look adorable!
I am near sighted too. And one eye is worse, one Dr. thought, because of how I sit and read, lol.
Thank you bev!!! 😀 Wow … that actually makes sense… and is so weird!!
Amy there is NOTHING about you that is a buttonhole.
NOTHING!
You are awesome and sometimes you don’t see things. That’s all.
<3 🙂
LOL!!! Buttonhole!!!! I love my innocent prudish auto-correct. It suits me perfectly. 😛
Finishing Middle of Knight, then on to Illuminae. I’m excited!! Need to restart it from beginning now that I have the hard cover, which is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I just want to note… End of Day and Middle of Night are absolute 2015 Must Reads. I don’t want to build it up too much, but they are really original. They ebb and flow, one moment I can walk away and the next, totally unputdownable. Emotions all across the board. In the middle of Middle of Knight and this morning I was crying laughing so hard. And then again while just talking to my mom remembering? I read that the third is coming out next year. And somewhere else that there’s a fourth? Not sure…
I always come to your first on monday night/tuesday mornings for the newest release. However the following book Play Dirty(The Devil’s Share Book 2) by L.P. Maxa wasn’t on your list It’s the second book of the series and its a great Rockstar Read. Definetly a read to let everyone know about along with the first book Play Nice 😉
Mmmmm, apple martini!! *takes drink from Cheryl* Martinis make everything better, don’t they? 😉
Aw Maryse…thank you, my sweet friend. *hugs* LOL, buttonhole? Usually your autocorrect is being dirty! 😛
