First new BIG release list of the month, kicking off the new season!!! Well, we’re not quite there yet, but this is a GREAT start! Take a look at the HUGE author favorites listed below!
<— Like Sarina Bowen (over there to the left), J.D. Robb’s latest, J.K. Rowling (Pottermore short stories!!), Sarah J. Maas (HUGELY popular YA Fantasy series!!), Samantha Towle’s latest (and this book is part of a James Patterson series project), Jodi Ellen Malpas, Samantha Young (WOW so many of our early-indie favorites!!), Pepper Winters (writing under a new pen name, ’cause it’s comedy!!), L.P. Dover & Heidi McLaughlin, Max Monroe… OMG the list just goes on and on. I have no doubt we won’t have a problem picking our next read…
What looks extra good to me? Easy! Rookie Move (I love Sarina Bowen and who can resist more of her hockey stars?), Change of Heart (the first book in this series had me fuming!! And I loved it. Both can be read as standalones, and the “hate-factor” on this new one is calling me), Because I’m Watching (I love a good psych-thriller, and the fact that her neighbor is an ex-military recluse is even more enticing!), Just a Kiss (she’s his best friend, and he wants to tell her he loves her, but he’s injured in the military and he comes back a broken man), and The Rainbow Rowell Collection (’cause I LOVED Eleanor and Park, and so many here love her entire collection!).
OH and!! Yesterday’s post had a few awesome-sounding “earlybirds” so take a look at this one, too: Author and Book News Roundup!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>

Pia: I simply love this story. It is so intense and if I have to compare it to another book it must by Ricochet by Keri Lake. Not the same storyline but just as intense and angsty. Asa, the heroin, is just so bad – I mean really really bad in a bad way. I cannot say it often enough – read it read it read it

Shatterproof by Cole McCAde writing as Xen Sanders comes out today (or yesterday?). It’s an mm PNR that I’m so curious to read.
YAY! Okay I’ll add it Fabi. 😀
And the three newish published stories from J.K. Rowling.
This is a monster list. September is always a big month and it looks like it’s kicking off with a bang.
I know it’s crazy!! And so many popular authors!!
oooooh thank you Jen F!!!
Adding ’em now! 😀
I’m so glad I kinda kept up on Pottermore. I can wait. *hides eyes* I don’t see good books, I don’t see good books!
I finsihed Arcana Rising and it ended with a CH (duh, right?). However, she has a quick picture of the next book at the end, and it ends with the next one. I don’t want it to end!
Now, I’m on chapter one of Empire of Storms. The prologue confused me at first, honestly. I had to read the blurb to not be so. I swear, I should have re-read this series first.
Empire of Storms YESSSS – gah I want to start reading NOW!
Arcana Rising is another cliffie *grrrr* maybe I should just wait and read it with the last one.
Finishing up White Hot Kiss tonight…yeah I caved after reading the comments. It’s definitely not my favorite of her series but enjoyable.
Not like the last cliffy. Just, boom, info… to be continued. Not OMG, SERIOUSLY, WT…Noooooo! like the last one was.
Maryse a new one came out today, I’d had it on pre order. Haven’t started it yet, but it had some buzz around it. And isn’t the cover great? It’s Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova.
I discovered Kirsty Moseley about 3yrs ago with the book Nothing Left to Lose. I had been hearing about it CONSTANTLY…..when it was first uploaded on Wattpad, it surpassed 25 MILLION reads before publication. 25 FREAKIN MILLION!!!! It is so incredibly good. If you haven’t read it, read it now!!! I can promise you, you will LOVE it.
Seriously Maryse, what the f*ck with this list!?!? I had to go back to work today! *stomp, stomp, stomp* I’m as bitchy as a girl with no chocolate during PMS week…and no booze… and no coverup with a big zit, do you understand how bad this is??? I don’t want to be back to work now, I thought I was ready, but I’m really not. Especially with *THIS* list, come on, stop punking me! Gah! I’m taking Manny and I’m going to the blankie fort… with all of the above. Chocolate, wine and cosmetics… ok, maybe not that last one, because it’s after 5 o’clock here on the east coast and IDGAF about my big old zit right now… (oh yes children, nurses get pimples on the first day of school too…looked like Mount St. Helens on my forehead this morning, but I digress)
Anyway, I finished the Dark Elements series, I did like it but was glad with her decision…now I need to pick one from ^ this crazy list above… wowsa….enough ranting from me… maybe….
*clicks LIKE button*
You weren’t laughing at me… right? *side-eyes R* Now I’m laughing at both of us…
Not laughing at all (out loud) just *liking*
*giggle* I’m laughing and liking… oy, one of those days. Gotta laugh or I’ll cry.
Hey! Why does Bev have a monkey as her avatar? What did I miss? Is this the UK bev?

Do you know how many times I WISHED this comment-thingie had a “like” button?
No kidding! *likes* Ela’s post too…
YOU SHOULDNT BE LIKING MY POST BUT HELPING YOUR FELLOW BOOK W**RE IN NEED!
Here Ela…Take ALL the wine. It’s yours! *blows kisses…runs*
Can I also have a cute animal as an avatar? *asks sweetly*
Wait…what?? Ela’s diarrhea gets wine and my pimple doesn’t?!? Dafuq? Is this a conspiracy? *pout* And…please, I’m a nurse, no such thing as a sensitive stomach for me…you could say anything and not gross me out. I hope you feel better. And I agree, you win the wine today…
It’s not personal Grey. Ela just scares the crap out of me 😉
In case any of you missed the “how to change your avatar” instructions, here they are again:
————
how to control your Avatar (for example – mine is always the same and it’s actually my face) this is where and how I did it:
if you go to gravatar.com (which means globally recognized avatar), you can set one of your own (your pet, your face, something that pertains to you).
As long as you use the same email address that you used to comment on here, the same gravatar that you’ve chosen, will always show up (on maryse.net, AND other sites using the gravatar system)
—————-
:D!!!
WHAT? WHY? I’m not scary…honestly…not at all….hmmmm?
Thanks Maryse! I missed the instructions. *guzzles ALL the wine* *wipes face with sleeve* *runs to the bathroom* DARN THIS SHIT (literally)!
*snort*
I think we should build Ela her blankie fort in her bathroom… just sayin’ 😉
Wait what?? We can play with our avatars?
Opps Ela…maybe wine wasn’t such a good idea!
Well.
Ok, then.
Blankie Fort and bathroom in one sentence sound so wrong. Lol R!
“Play with our avatars”…cracking up! Yup I WENT THERE…
hey! I’m human 🙂
Ela! *pffft* like you don’t play with your avatar!
*dons Hazmat suit* *sprays everything Ela even looks at with Lysol*
whoa… playing with…avatar??? kinky…
It’s not accepting my password!
Hey now! I don’t have germies…well I don’t think so!
Oh you know it! Avatar play is the new in-fetish! 🙂
*Runs into blog room*. I’m here! Did someone say kinky….fetish?
Ela I love your pretty blue spaceman avatar. I don’t know why you’d change it.
Fabi, have you seen your new one?
I gotta say that blue man’s tail is kinky 😉
Not yet bev. I did go to gravitate and try to create an account but I couldn’t find a combination for a username that hadn’t already been taken. I guess I have a popular name. *rolls eyes*
You just need any username for that site. You can still use your normal one on here. Just make sure to use the email you use on here.
Ok, I’ll try to come up with something unique.
Hey! You have a face pic. Cool!
Love the new avatars Bev and R! I do a double take each time they pop up, lol. I hope you get better soon Ela. I’ve had a whole slew of GI issues the past 2 years so I sympathize with your pain. And also as a result have an intense fear of getting sick…*tosses heating pad, backs away quickly, pass the lysol please* 😉
Why thank you Tasha!
It worked. I love all my genius friends.
*sprays lysol*
Right there with you Tasha.
And wow… EVERYONE’s monsters have changed…
How you like em piggies now?
Omg!! Miss Piggy! Lol
Awww, everyone has new avies. Too cute.
R… you’re so cute!!
And bev… LOL! You are too. *snort*
Is it weird that I am kind of nostalgic for all of our old avatars?
Thanks Maryse! <3
bev's sexy! OMG Ela! It's the same as your GR avatar…only different!
Nope. I’m already missing my electrocuted monster.
LOL is everyone changing back? That’s what happened to me when I changed my name for 24 hours!
I gotta keep it close so I don’t get misunderstood for someone else!
Thank you, it’s a new hair style.
For all Magic Mike fans –
https://ellentube.com/videos/0-6a2hjnln
Oh Ela! That is amazing. Now I want to go to Vegas more than ever.
Wow! *fans self* I loved that they showed Ellen’s reactions and the old lady at the end, lol. I only watched the first movie, which I thought was terrible, but the dancing was great. This show looks awesome!
ROAD TRIP TO VEGAS BUT VIA PLANE
I had to try this whole new gravatar thingy.
Mine is not working1
I thought we were going to Vegas for tats. Now we HAVE to go!
Am I not still the blue belted boy part? Because I will be very upset if that’s not the case…
I just can’t find stripping anything but cheesy.
Whenever it is the heroes occupation I’m always, meh.
Tessa I can’t quite tell what yours is.
Woohoo R. Vegas for tats and a stripper show. I’m in!
Yes Grey you are still slightly obscene. But it was different for a bit.
Tessa, yours changed.
Good lord, so not fair!! Where were all these new releases this summer. *pout* Like Grey, I went back to work today, without a giant pimple,;) just a back ache, from sitting at my desk and doing too much PAPERWORK!! *hate the beginning of the school year*
Ela, I can’t quite make out what your avatar is and what it says. Hope you feel better, here’s some gingerale and crackers. Hey, it works for the kids at school!!
Grey no worries, you’re still the blue, belted, boy part. 🙂
I made it smaller. I couldn’t even tell what it was, and I made the thing!
There! Bug lady!
Tessa, you’re that green Martian thingie.
Thanks Cheryl! I’m miss Piggie spanking Kermit for looking at that other PIG! Darn cheating frog!
Oh and it says “Fifty Shades of Pink” *snort*
Tessa, is yours a gremlin?
Ela, that was hot and hilarious. I think the older woman they showed is Ellen’s Mom.
Cheryl’s Ela’s good angel. I’m the one on the other shoulder with horns. *pours vodka in Ela’s ginger ale* Don’t worry. I got you.
Heck yeah! Vegas. I’d totally do it! My husband’s going back to Cozumel without me soon, so he’ll owe me!
It’s some bug lady I made years ago. https://xandory.deviantart.com/art/Extravolera-280442409 The full picture. I made her for some contest I think?
Ela, I was talking about the video, but I guess Miss Piggy dressed as a dominatrix and spanking Kermit could be too. 😉
That’s Kermit there? Things I never knew about them.
I’ll have to watch several more times *wink wink*
Tessa that’s extraordinary. You are so talented.
EMPIRE OF STORMS!!!! Dag Nabit. Need to read faster & finish Loverboy! Eek!!!!!
*blushes* Thank you. See, though. Bug Lady!
You must read faster MichelleS! It’s involved and it took me a few to remember where it left off. I want to see the little folk!
Yes! Very talented Tessa!
And that is why I’m waiting for the series completion.
What the ever-lovin’ F&%# is going on with the avatars around here?!? I’m so used to the monsters and then y’all go and change everything up!
*deep breath*
Fine.
FINE.
I’m just going to go and actually READ the comments now…
Well my original yellow monster changed to some Martian with a tail…so
Um….You might not want to read the comments.
Oh my…oh MY!!!
*mixes very strong medicinal martinis for Grey and Ela*
You guys are in rough shape! Okay, I have concealer and setting powder for Grey’s zit (while I try to resist the urge to pop it…you’ve no idea how difficult that is for me) and for Ela…erm…sorry babe, but your potty goes out there. *points away from blankie fort while spraying Lysol around perimeter* Manny has a sensitive tummy. We still luffs you though!!
Oh hey! Have any of you guys ever seen this ad?? This stuff would be perfect for our blankie fort outhouse!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLnhuzh9uY
What’s wrong with the comments? I’ve been cracking up!!!
OMG Amy. That’s fantastic!!
Right?!?
For you, Ela…
Sorry…SORRY!! Okay, not really but only because we’ve all had it and some of us have had it at the worst time, like in the middle of a baby shower with a bunch of women waiting outside the door of the one and only bathroom.
Nope. Never happened to me though. Nuh-uh. *blushes*
Im loving all the new gravatars.
Is anyone here talking about books….or is it just diarrhea and medicinal martini’s??
I finished Loverboy and floved the guts out of that book. Tango *big shuddery sigh*. And it was really confronting for me…not my usual skipping happily along throwing daisies in the air romance that’s for damn sure. But I trust Lauren Gilley and she did not disappoint.
I want a new gravatar! I gotta go “play” with my avatar & see what I can come up with!! 😉
Tried to read Neighbor Dearest (I LOVED Stepbrother Dearest) and got to 65% and HATED where story was going (too similar to another popular book). I really hate when that happens…ruins whole thing for me.
Reading Author Anonymous right now. WOW! Just, WOW!! I think I will hold all comments til I am finished.
Love the cover of Can’t Touch This! Hee hee. Looks hilarious.
Thanks Amy! Nothing but love for ya girl!
What in the heck is going on here? Huge pimples. Diarrhoea. Strange avatars. I dunno. I go on holidays and everything goes to all heck. But what can you do?
Lisa I liked your gr review of loverboy. I’ve had to take a break from it as it’s a bit too confronting for me. I do want to finish it, but maybe not just now.
Lisa and Jan…what kind of friends would we be if we didn’t veer off the topic of books and onto the topic of vocanic zits, explosive diarrhea, and medicinal martinis?!?
Besides, angsty books can cause the first two and put us in need of the last one. 😛
Leslie…I finished Author Anonymous a few days ago, and I’m still kinda messed up from it. I want to dislike her, I know I SHOULD dislike her, but I don’t. This isn’t a make-believe h we can tear apart but a real, flawed person who made some really bad choices.
She was an awful wife, a selfish mother, and a sh!t friend…but she’s human and her horrid decisions don’t make her a bad person. Does she deserve an HEA? That’s not for me to say. But if she were my friend, I would give her a tough-love smackdown full of fire and brimstone, but then I would love her and support her while she dealt with the consequences of her actions. *shrugs* But that’s just me…
OK I know you guys are big into makeup but what about hair? I’ve been researching hair serums for an hour. My hair feels like straw!! WTF? Any suggestions other than Miracle Whip (my mom’s torture when I was a kid, although I’m seriously considering it…)
AND. I need a super duper scary book. Preferably demonic. Preferably newer and less popular. Any ideas there?
Thanks! That will conclude my shopping for the day. 🙂
woops! I used the wrong email and now I’m being invaded by a blue ink spot avatar!
Coconut oil for hair. I don’t do real scary horror books. They give me nightmares.
R! I have tried so many products and have loved even more! So let’s get started! What kind of hair do you have? I recently bought a new favorite hair cream, awesome for curly or straight hair by Oribe!
https://www.amazon.com/ORIBE-Hair-Care-Supershine-Moisturizing/dp/B00203Q9B4/ref=sr_1_2_a_it/154-1556523-1825555?ie=UTF8&qid=1473281275&sr=8-2&keywords=oribe+products
Thanks Tessa! Really? Coconut oil? I have a tub of that I never use! do you just work it into the ends and leave it for a while?
Ela, LOL. That’s a loaded question. It WAS super straight, super fine (but a lot of it), and never dry. I hit 40 and BAM! It’s totally wavy and dry as straw. No joke, it crunches. And I just lightened it a ton which did not help!
Oh and I’m with Tessa…NO SCARY BOOKS, MOVIES, PICTURES, SCARY ANYTHING!
Well, I’ll share my favorites and then you can proceed 🙂 I have thin curly/wavy hair
I love Matrix shine milk, Rusk mouse for curly hair, if I want to straighten my hair I use Fekkai and Pureology.
So is the shine milk like a conditioner?
No, it’s a finishing product after you towel dry your hair.
https://www.amazon.com/Matrix-Biolage-Smoothing-Shine-Package/dp/B00FFEEPNO/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473283610&sr=8-2&keywords=matrix+shine+milk
I also use this website for discount Pureology products if you’re interested since those are pricey. I need to find one for Oribe products as well….
I should’ve asked. What type of shampoo and conditioner do you use?
Thanks Ela!
Tessa…whatever I snag at Sam’s. (Don’t judge me!) Yes, I realize that’s part of my problem…
Finished Loverboy by Lauren Gilley book 5 in the Dartmoor series!!! Everyone needs to read this series!! Loverboy was such a tough story to read BUT this author did a “beautiful ” job of getting us through it!! Tango will grab hold of your heart and you will never forget his story.
Yes Lauren Gilley rocks BIG! While I’m reading her MC books I feel like I’m in a SOA episode!
I wouldn’t really be any help with the shampoo question because I get the Pravana Perfection treatment and have to use their products to maintain and extend it. BUT I can tell you that the treatment is AMAZING and makes my dry, brittle and frizzy hair totally shiny and manageable. Wow, I sound like a commercial…
I would love to read Loverboy, especially with everyone’s reactions, but I just don’t have the patience right now for a new-couple-every-book series. I have to be in the mood for those, ya know?
But I do have the first three books in the series so…someday. 😉
Tessa, I think your bug lady’s pretty cool too! It made me think of one of those Disney movies (Epic maybe?) or Avatar or something. R. Renee, I second the coconut oil. I have really fine straight hair and over that last couple years started having problems with dry scalp so I melted some coconut oil and a few drops of tea tree oil (optional) and massaged it in really good, wrapped it up and let it sit for a few hrs. You could even leave it overnight. Then just wash it out with your shower, probably a couple times to get all the oil out. I did it a couple times a week. And I went through tons of diff dept store brands and the only one that worked for me was Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner.
Thanks Tasha! I think I’ll try this first since I already have some!
Linda…I just keep thinking about that book. I knew my heart was going to break for Tango. …and youre right, Lauren Gilley did a great job of making an unbearably horrific story bearable (just) and carthatic.
R. When washing the oil out it sometimes helps to start on a dry head. Just rub the shampoo in before you wet your hair. Then wet and lather.
My hair got really dry from a mix of things I think. I really do think stress has an effect on hair. It seemed really really bad to me and nothing was working. I didn’t notice a huge difference until after 2 haircuts. Just needed to cut it all off. Not all my hair but all the damaged part.
Thanks bev, good to know. In college I used a silk treatment that I put on all my hair including my scalp and after a week I realized it wasn’t washing out! I had to wear a hat for months! I was wondering with the coconut oil if i just avoid the scalp and focus on the dry length!
LOL bev!!! I just assumed it happened because I turned 40…but now that I think about it, that was about the time I started writing! It probably is stress!! Problem solved! *opens another bottle of wine*
Alcohol is great for “stress hair.” 😉
I haven’t read any horror books yet, but plenty interest me and I plan to soon! I think I even have a few on my tbr list. Here are 2 links that I read that are kind of more recent release that sound really good and spooky: https://horrornovelreviews.com/2016/01/17/5-horror-authors-you-have-to-read-and-follow-in-2016/
https://horrornovelreviews.com/2015/12/30/top-10-horror-novels-of-2015/
Alcohol is great for everything, really.
Not a spooky read, BUT I did start watching Stranger Things on Netfix over Labor Day weekend and I. Am. Hooked! I literally have 11 min left to finish the last episode. Have any of you watched this??! I think it really lives up to the hype and totally pulls off that nostalgic feel of like the whole 80s time period and ET and the Goonies and what not. It’s got adventure and the comaraderie between the kids is great, not to mention the high school kids and adults, plus the scary element. I was actually afraid of the dark one night, watching it alone and all. Lol
Is that the one with winona Ryder? I love her.
My hubby is getting hooked on that show…it looks good from what I’ve seen of it.
I’m reading The Last Girl by Kitty Thomas and ohhhhhh man, this vampire is NOT like our other vampire guys. He has his moments of being sorta nice but I have no idea how this will end. 😕
Oh Amy you have my attention with that Kitty Thomas book. I’m so curious how that one goes for you. I haven’t read it.
Yep, Winona’s on there
No need to apologize R. I use Pantene Pro-V. Works better than any salon thing I’ve ever gotten. I just went through major dry hair (chlorine from swimming) and ithat was my biggest defense to the dryness. Since the pool closed, I’ve done one time with coconut oil on my ends, and they are super soft again.
Thank you Tasha!
Maryse put up a Station Eleven review.
*gasp*!!!
*hides*
??!!
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-station-eleven-by-emily-st-john-mandel.html
She read and reviewed it.
Thanks Tessa 🙂
And thanks Tasha! I’ll check them out! I’ve started adding some to my TBR on GR. I’m probably freaking out the the people reading the feed because I usually stick to romance!
It reads FAST, Maryse. It’s only like 168 pages, and it is very easy to get into…at least for me it was.
He is not cruel, but he’s not exactly nice either. He is blunt and honest when she asks if he is going to hurt or kill her. Also, it’s all in her POV so I don’t know what’s going on in his head, which I LOVE. I’ve read no spoilers or reviews so I really have no idea what is going to happen…
Manny!!!!!!
Yep, I figured if I couldn’t have the red guy I’ve had for, oh, 3 YEARS NOW then I am putting Manny on there.
Doesn’t he make you want to just grab him and snuggle him?!?
*whispers * Gann. Though super dark.
So if you need/want to go in a completely different direction.
If you need a palate cleanser.
If you want to join the interesting kids–MichelleS & I. 😉
If you want to allow me to be able to say, “Maryse read it.”
If you want to read a Manny book club pick.
If you want all of this …
Then Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda is for you.
I seem to always be out of the loop, but can someone tell me why everyone is freaking out (in a sort of disturbing way) over Wide Open Spaces? Is it the basic plot that’s upsetting people or is there another blogger/writer war going on?
I hadn’t even heard of the book. Is it the Reynolds book?
Yep! I was just perusing the reviews on GR because I keep reading the word “controversy” and OMG. People are seriously upset. Reviewers anyway. I maybe get Author Anonymous…but this is fiction! *cowers in corner*
Well, fiction and the characters can provoke strong feelings. From the reviews/spoilers I’m sure I’d be a ranting too.
Don’t ask me about Taking Chances….grr.
Or ask Amy about a certain baseball player.
There are a couple books that made me raving mad *cough Carnage* but never enough to start a war on GR. There are angry trolls. TROLLS!! LOL sound’s scary!
Who is trolling who?
Are her ride or die fans trolling the negative reviews or the negative reviews trolling the 5 *?
This is what I don’t get about GR and Amazon, also why many stop doing GR.
I only read the one review where the 1 star reviewer was *warning* the angry trolls to stay away. I get it, but is that what it’s come to? Reviews have to have warnings aimed at commenters? It’s just crazy to me. I sent you the link, but you probably saw it already. It was near the top.
Just skimmed some. In that one it looks like some of her fans were upset by teasers for the book and other fans upset that the book was being written off when they’d never read it.
Honestly, I’d not read it from the spoilers. It’d make my head explode.
I think it is weird to star a book that you didn’t read but no weirder than an author rating their own book.
Some of these read more like fan vs. Fan more than blogger vs writer.
It’s why I was hesitant about GR, a lot of trolls and fighting.
I’m not on twitter but I can’t believe the problems they are having with trolls. That whole thing that happened to Leslie Jones is just sickening.
I’ve never experienced it myself, but it is crazy.
The writers rating their books doesn’t really bother me because they all seem to do it when they announce their release date. Like it’s standard practice or something. Maybe like getting to vote for yourself in an election lol. But rating a book you haven’t read is horrible to me! No matter how many stars you give it.
OMG what happened??? I get the anger her book drew from people, me included, but it’s just a book!
LOL never mind. Duh. I have book brain. Wrong Leslie Jones! I know what you’re talking about. Weird how I just mentioned Carnage!!!
Sorry *Lesley Jones… there’s the confusion 😉
Its really that common?
I just noticed it for the first time like last week, I was so shocked that I mentioned it here. I don’t want to see my favorites do it, I’ll admit I found it a turn off.
Yes, her feed was bombarded with a bunch of racist bs. I guess this is happening a lot and apparently a lot of white supremacy groups are on there. Twitter has been criticized for not responding in strong enough ways.
Yes, it’s very common. At least with all the writers I read. It’s always the 1st rating becaust the writer “announces” the release/book and with GR, that’s really the best way to do it so people who follow them see it in their feeds. They have to “review” it (even though that’s really not what they’re doing–they’re just announcing). At that point it’s sometimes weeks, maybe months before the book is actually released and with no stars it’s easily forgotten. With just 1 five star rating, it stays on people’s radars, so to speak. I’m sure for some it’s just vanity, but for most, it’s marketing. GR caters to readers so writers tend to have to “make things work.”
Ohhhhhh you’ve done it now, Bev.
You’ve summoned my inner b!tch by bringing up HIM.
*downs Jager shot and glares at HIS memory*
Urrrghhh. Trolls. I got Trolled once…..on an Intercountry adoption/special needs support group page…….seriously….if you dont agree with Intercountry adoption why would you be in a support page for it?? Except to pick on people!
Thats why I only have friends from here on GR. Plus a couple of ring-ins like UK Bev…..no trolls for me.
Robin…….looking for scary, read The Passage….monsters galore. Now the series is complete too.
Why did I not know Manny was a Manitee?? For some crazy reason my brain had pictured him as a mandrill or capuchin….not a sea cow!!
THE PASSAGE!!! *tossing handfuls of peanuts*
Lisa, that’s horrible. Obviously went there to troll. Manny was a character in a book. You thought he was a monkey? ?
Amy, cover his ears.
Thanks Lisa! I’ll check it out!
With the GR feeds, who you friend doesn’t really matter because anyone can see it unless you set it to not update your friends feeds. Otherwise, if they comment or like it, all their friends see it.
I guess it makes sense for marketing, but I will probably always give it a side eye. Just the starring part.
I’m one of those people that don’t think authors should respond to reviews either, even good ones. *shrug* I’m probably weird.
Did you adopt Lisa? We did, but out of the local foster care system.
Just for anyone who doesn’t know Manny ‘ s origins. A stuffed manatee was in a scene in a book that we all loved on here a while back.
Sadly for me the sequel did not work and have not worked up the courage to read the third. But the first was angst fun.
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-night-owl-by-m-pierce.html
The commenting I go back and forth on. The first time it happened to me I’d given a good review, but not great, so it made me feel weird. But after that I write reviews expecting them to be read so even if it’s negative, it’s constructive. Usually lol.
But yeah. For some books I’d like to just be totally honest, and because if that, I won’t be. On one hand the book world is awesome because your heroes (I’m a major fangirl!!) are very accessible. But if you don’t like their book, you probably don’t want them accessible at all! *look away please…I’m busy hating your book*
A quick stop in to say hi; I’ll have to catch up on the comments later. Helped my son move in to his college dorm yesterday!! So bittersweet, happy for him, but it’s sad and weird for him not to be home. Sleep like crap and now have to go to work… 🙁
R. as far as hair. I have fine hair and color it. I started getting a treatment when getting the color at the salon. It’s called Olaplex. Can’t say enough about how great it is! I then used at home, Pureology Hydrawhip for dry/fine hair. Recently, found out there was a Olaplex at home product-No3. I put it on, wrap my hair and leave it as long as I can for deep conditioning.
Oh, Cheryl. That has to be such a huge change to your household. And Even positive changes like that can be huge stressors.
Yes. One time Nalini Singh made a comment on here, a thank you to Maryse for posting a pre order or something. Yes, fangirl.
But on reviews or general talk of the book no, not for me. Also, I think it is very easy for an author to say something that could be perceived in the wrong way and then face a backlash.
Oh here we go with the nasty trolls!!!!! AMY – BOOOH – JACK! LMFAO
I am lucky with great GR friends that I have NOT received such nastiness but one of my GR friends’ reviews of a book was totally trashed even the author got on board then luckily deleted her post.
Maybe it’s just me but Author Anonymous gets the same treatment as other fiction books, now if it was a biography I would feel different but alas it is not and I don’t.
It seems to me that if someone is going to write something like that, and call it a true story, they are not only expecting controversy, but in fact, inciting it.
Wait up! There was a matinee in Night Owl??? I just remember the cute bunny rabbit.
Oh and Cheryl I had that treatment done last time I went in…2 weeks ago
Cheryl, congrats! That has to be a big change! I just texted my stylist about both those products! waiting to hear back.
bev, that’s a very good point. I saw a writer “thank” a 3 star reviewer the other day and it made me cringe. I wondered if it was sincerer or if he writer was just “making it known that she’d seen it.” Even some 5 star reviews have negative comments in them. IDK. I think I lean more toward your way of thinking, because honestly, readers should be able to say exactly what they think without fear of offending someone. I actually felt guilt for the review I wrote for Swear on This Life. And it’s a VERY kind review! I’ve never seen Renee Carlino on GR at all, but I’m sure she must be lurking there somewhere and since she’s one of my fab four I felt like I LET HER DOWN instead of the other way around, which it kind of was!
GR is reader space. Authors tread at your own risk.
LOL I’ve heard of many authors who won’t go near it. Some don’t even read reviews. After all, it’s the sales that count right?
Exactly! But I do love the writers who are on there. It’s nice being about to talk freely with them about writing/books. GR is a great forum for that. But, it IS a reader forum first and foremost!
And reviews are like drugs to writers. They can’t help themselves. Until they make it to NYT status, they read them!
R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually received a message from Renee thanking me for my review and if I could please consider writing one on Amazon. I met her at Maryse’s first BB when she was just starting with Sweet Thing and she was just the sweetest “thing” lady! I was with an author siting across from her and she truly was shy or at least appeared so when fans came by….I dubbed her Sweet Thang.
LOL Ela! That’s funny. Well, hopefully if she reads any of the reviews I’ve written her she jumps to When We Were Strangers!
Sheehan, Fisher, and I believe one more will not even touch GR?
I’ve never seen TJR on there interacting either. And I wrote a review directly to her once, titled “Dear Taylor” LOL!!
Ela, yes. The stuffed animal was a gift at the hospital.
I’ve even seen authors get backlash from asking for reviews too.
The one thing that gets me is the, “if I get X amount of votes, likes, or you review I will release this story or epilogue.” If I payed for the original book, please do not make me jump through hoops for the extras.
R, have you seen Love Between the Covers? It was good and showed how romance writers have a tendency to pass it on to the newbies.
bev, no I haven’t! But what do you mean a tendency to pass it on to the newbies?
YES! NOW I REMEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FISHER DID THAT WITH THIEF….OH THAT PISSED ME OFF. I believe she was promoting Thou Shalt Not (which by the way, author and sequel fell off the face of the Earth) and True Love Story for maybe it was Dirty Red? But as much as I love Tarryn Fisher’s writing she comes off as loving the attention and thriving off it, that I don’t like.
And this bev, “The one thing that gets me is the, “if I get X amount of votes, likes, or you review I will release this story or epilogue.”
This is so hilarious to me!! If you have to do this, you’re probably unknown and no one cares about your epilogue anyway!! I’d be more like “If you read my epilogue, I’ll send you a check for $100. And maybe a pony.”
FLT.
I hate cops.
– Crow (Boston Underworld Book 1) by A. Zavarelli
H is very possessive and h is a fire cracker kick ass. So far SO GOOD and I can’t put it down!!
It has a lot of well established authors as a part of it. And many of them talk of starting out and other authors at conventions and such being really encouraging and answering questions and such. Now, Beverly Jenkins goes on historical trips with her fans.
I love my new avatar!!! Def much better than crazy monster thing. NOONE on entire planet is bigger Twilight fan than me, so it is quite suitable.
Amy, I agree with your thoughts on Author Anonymous. I enjoyed reading it in the “perverse, can’t look away from trainwreck” kind of a way. I applaud “Anonymous” for telling her story despite how horrible it makes her look. The fact that it is a true story is what piqued my curiosity. Not sure if I would have liked it as fiction (I’m one of the few who disliked Arsen). I was shocked at the end though!! Do you think that last line was legit?? Maryse needs spoiler tags so I can say more.
To chime in on the “authors commenting” thing….I agree that Goodreads is supposed to be for readers…I am very uncomfortable with authors commenting on reviews (good or bad). Makes me feel like I can’t be honest.
Not to sound like authors can’t be part of Goodreads…I don’t want my comment to be misconstrued. I just mean them commenting on reviews for their own books. (Or asking for reviews/likes etc. in exchange for releasing “extras”)
Obviously authors are readers too. I enjoy seeing authors talk about books they read.
I also don’t have an issue with authors promoting their books on Goodreads.
Ela! You thought Manny was a primate?? LOL!!!! I totally had to look up mandrill and capuchin though because I couldn’t think of what they were. Just like I had to look up “chook” when I watched Muriel’s wedding…holy moly, I freaking *LOVE* that oldie but goodie!! And now I want to watch it again…
Yep, the manatee in Night Owl (OMG that part broke my heart!!!) started our whole “snuggle Manny” thing. Y’all probably think I’m joking, but I actually DO snuggle him when a book is beating the crap out of my heart. 😉
I hate it when authors want to *gift* you an ARC “in exchange for an honest review.”
#1. That isn’t a gift.
#2. If this happens, I assure you they aren’t looking for an “honest” review they’re looking for a “good” review, or they’d be requesting reads from bloggers–but not under the premise of a gift!
#3. Readers may request ARCs from writers, but it *still* isn’t a gift. It’s a favor, albiet an awesome one if the reader is a fangirl lol.
Leslie, do you mean the last line in the Afterword? I would like to believe that last line is legit, painful as I’m sure it would be for Anonymous. *sigh* What a mess she made for herself. 😕
The only “extras” incentive I gave into, that I can remember, were ones offered by Jennifer Armentrout, but those were offered to readers who preordered her new books (which I was going to buy anyways). But come on, it was Daemon/Katy and Aiden/Alex!!!!

Prologue:
‘The bone drums had been pounding across the jagged slopes of the Black Mountains since sundown.’
Chapter 1
‘Elide Lochlan’s breath scorched her throat with every gasping inhale as she limped up the steep forest hill.’
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
Amy, yes…the last line in the after afterward. I wondered if “you know who” really meant what he said. Man, that book was a crazy roller coaster of emotions!!!
Bev, I absolutely LOVED Night Owl and then it took too long for sequel to come out and I lost interest. I also read spoilers and know I wouldn’t like direction story went in. Makes me sad as Night Owl was a fave!!
It really is annoying when sequels:
A. Suck
B. Take too long to be released
C. All of the above (are you listening Ms. Day??)
I vote for telling a story all in one book. I have no problem reading long books and often prefer them. Neither do I have a problem paying $10.99 for 1,000 pages as opposed to $1.99 for 100 pages.
Ela wins FLT!! Because that first line is SO fitting for her with all of her, um, “issues” right now. LOL!!!!
I agree, Fabi…I used to LOVE series, and still do when I’m in the right mood, but lately I’m kind of restless I just want to read the story in its entirety all in one shot. Sounds odd because some of my favorites came from series (Tristan and Danika!!!!) but I think it’s just a matter of reading tastes changing over time. That, and the fact that I have eleventy thousand other books still to read. 😉
****POSSIBLY SPOILERY for Author Anonymous****
****you’ve been warned****
Leslie…I have such mixed feelings even now about the character who said that. She hurt both men and I think they both wanted to hurt her in return, so anything either one of the guys said or did could be questionable.
Ooooooooh!!!! I’ve got a heartbreaker for us!! In the Quiet by Eliza Henry Jones is 1.99 right now. 😀
FLT “I leaned back, nonchalantly placing my hands in the pockets of my slacks.”
El Diablo by M. Robinson
Crappy first line for the prologue, but the first line for ch. 1 wasn’t much better. However, 3 chapters in and I’m digging it. As long as it doesn’t cross a major line like Paper Swan did for me, I think I may like this one. Or if it does cross a major line, I hope the writer makes me want to cross it too 😉
Can’t wait to see what you think of it R. I read several mixed reviews.
I’m trying not to look Fabi! I’m going in fairly blind. I could use a little dark romance right now, so fingers crossed!
Don’t look! I hate spoilers. Fingers crossed for you.
Leslie M. I second that! I got to read most of S. Day’s series back to back, but then had to wait several months for the 2nd to last one and the final? I gave up. I think 3 months should be the MAX on a series book release. And isn’t there supposed to be a TV show in the works? Will anyone care about that? Or has it already been canned?
OK I just thought of something and have a general question. Concerning writers commenting/liking status updates and/or reviews. What if the reader “friended” the writer on GR. Isn’t that like giving each other access to the books each other reads, etc.? In that case, doesn’t the reader know ahead of time that the author can potentially and likely see what they think? For instance, I’m much more blunt with reviews for writers I’m not “friends” with and vague when I don’t like something of a writer’s who I am “friends” with. Or the book I’m reading my just *poof* disappear all together 😉
I think I’m following 3 authors but I don’t think I’d want to friend them.
For review blogs I read I start to look sideways when they become friends with an author and still review the books.
In my real life I’m not friends with any authors. If I made friends virtually I’m not sure I’d read their books, lol.
I mean whose work I was not a fan of before. If I was idk, probably most would work for me but doubt I’d review or book talk about it if it didnt. Akward.
I don’t really review anyway, though do express opinions on here.
I’m not sure but think my FLT Might Be The Same As LAST Thursday.
And like Leslie I don’t mind promotions and authors talking about books. I think it is fun to see who they read.
R, I personally would not seek to “friend” authors of books on my TBR. I actually am “friends” with one popular author and it was an oversight. She friend requested me and I approved it without realizing who she is and now I don’t feel like I can read her books. Well, publicly admit to reading them unless I end up loving them. But I would say that if you are friends with an author, that def gives the author the right to comment on your reviews/status of her books. (Which personally would freak me out)
Fabi, all in one book works for me too! I’m sick of cliffys and waiting for books to be released!!! Or thinking series is over then author creates new/unnecessary drama to extend it. Ugh!!
FLT:
Everything about the sight in front of me was wrong.

I’m in a TBR challenge and trying to tackle some “oldies”
lol I just friend authors I love just to compare books. Ironically, the one I just follw, KA Linde, I swear, she and Michelle are my book twins. Others I just follow, I’m like, uh… I read your books, but you read that? Huh.
I’ve learned to only friend the ones I know I’m going to love, but even that’s a gamble! I think it’s best just to “follow” if you don’t want them in your book business LOL.
bev, I approve of your message and 2nd it. When I started writing I made a lot of writer friends and then as soon as their books came out, I’d publicly read them like an idiot, sometimes barely be able to get through them. I’ve since learned to read first, tell the world later–or never as the case may be!
I friend authors on GR all the time. Especially ones whose books I enjoy reading. I’m not shy about posting a less than stellar review either. I’m reviewing the BOOK not the PERSON and my review is my PERSONAL opinion, which will undoubtedly disagree with the next person’s opinion. My reviews show more of who I am than they show about the author. In fact, they are not intended to show anything about the author.
For example, you guys know I’m a HUGE fan of Shay Savage. Some of her books are 1M stars for me. Would you believe some of them are also 2-3 star for me? AND some I’m not interested in reading because they don’t sound like my cup of tea. None of that makes her any LESS my favorite author. It only shows that she is not a mirror image of me. — How boring would it be to read my own books? LOL – NOT that I could ever write one.
*cough cough*
*steps off soapbox*
*places soapbox carefully under the bed*
I need to add a P.S.
The above pertains to “book reviewing”. It does not apply, at all, to “beta reading”. Beta reading is more of an editorial role. Meant to be critically helpful in a positive way.
I totally envy that about you Fabi! I used to think I was that way, but I’m turning into a big giant wuss. But, at least I own my wussiness.
LOL R – Own it! 🙂 I’m a total wuss about disagreeing with the beautiful ladies here on Maryse’s blog. Then again, there isn’t really anything to disagree on. Those of us who post often have gotten to know each other’s idiosyncrasies.
Fabi, you have a great attitude!! Unfortunately, I am a wuss.
LOL, no you’re not Leslie. Haven’t I seen you on a rant or two? It’s ok though, believe me, there have been a few books I’ve quietly shelved without offering my opinion on.
*fist pumps air* The sisterhood of the wussiness.
And some books just fade into nothingness like they were never even there 😉
I comfortable discussing books here or having differing opinions…in fact i enjoy seeing everyones feedback (unless of course you don’t like Twilight, then I secretly hate you!) Ha ha ha! Totally kidding. I think Maryse would be sad if people couldn’t express their opinions here. I think we are a respectful bunch who can appreciate varying tastes. 🙂
My issue is if authors chime in on my comments on Goodreads. (Which thank goodness has never happened) And of course trolls. They suck.
I would be sad, Leslie!! You’re right. I LOVE that we all have different opinions, and yet get along so well, so we feel like we CAN express ourselves, and get it out of our system, or get excited together over a book or author, or bond with someone that felt like we did over a certain book (whether we loved it or didn’t).
As long as we respect each other, it’s fun to discuss what works for us, and what doesn’t, in books. Why someone loves a storyline or the flow of a writer, and why sometimes, it doesn’t work for others.
And sometimes, it’s just the “mood” ya know? A book that everyone loves that didn’t work for a few, or a book that TOTALLY worked for only a few. THAT is why we’re our own book club. Because we love books, we share similar tastes and we *squee* over many of the same books (or types of books). And our different views, make it that much better.
I think there’s only one book I had to delete from GR and it was because I learned it was plagiarised after I read it. I do of course delete from my tbr if I decide to not read a book.
This is such a wonderfully positive and supportive environment. Is it any wonder so many of us chat here exclusively?
*group hug*
*joins in group hug but gives stink eye to non Twilight lovers*
Again….soooo kidding! This place rocks!!
I LOVE TWILIGHT!!!
It re-started me on my love of reading. Will forever be my forever-favorite.
Are we doing a group hug?!?
PUPPY PILE!!!!!
*dives onto group-hugging friends*
Luffs you guys!!!
*virtually “likes” all the comments* <--- wish we could actually "like" the comments. *sigh* GROUP HUG!!!!!!!!! *leaps on top of the puppy pile*
And this is the ONLY place where I chat. This is home to me. 😉
Let’s see if this works…
nope! LOL
maybe this…
Same for me with Twilight! Then Maryse started introducing THE HARD CORE STUFF *cpugh chjolj* 50 BABY! *struts over to the huggle and squashes everyone*
Has anyone noticed Ela’s *coughs*? I think she’s coming down with something. Hahahahahah!!! I crack myself up!
The link worked for me. 🙂
And Twighlight sent me on my PNR adventure (after I reread the series countless times)
Maryse? You should really rethink liking ALL the comments!
Ela… really? I may have missed a few. 😉 😛
Yep, it worked R!
I don’t care what any haters say (not here, just the haters “out there”) I loved Twilight and Edward and all his obsessive and possessive tendencies…it’s what made him, HIM. 😀
*squeaks from bottom of pile* luffs y’all tooooooo
Yup!
Yep! I loved Twilight too…only now instead of re-writing it from Edwards POV/backwards, I wish she would have written it from EL James’ POV 😉
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛
R, ummm…do you realize that link you posted has a very interesting vibrator pic in it??
*blushes*
Oh crap. Um… woops.
Um……hides. cause Leslie is giving me stink eye. But that’s ok, I don’t like hugs anyway.
Ok full disclosure, that was a meme for my betas a loooong time ago for part of a scene (I cut when I transitioned from erotic romance to NA). I put it on here last night because I sent it to a writer friend as a joke. *hides*
Bev, it actually works out good if you are not a Twilight lover cause I’m not a Sherlock lover!! See? Now we are even. However, you gotta let us give you just a little squish.
*munches popcorn and waits for Bev’s reaction to being squished*
😛
Lol, they negate each other.
*holds out pinkie*
I’ll pinkie hug.
R. Are you published under different names? Now I’m worried.
No lol. I’m not published at all! I just got sick of erotic romance lol. But I still love that scene…even if I never use it!
One guess which one Bev is in this pic…

I keep seeing ads for Bumpershoot, and all I can think about is how I wish I could read Thoughtless again for the first time.
*sigh*
You never forget the first time…
Amy, that otter is totally biting the other ones ear. So which one of you is the biter?
ME!!!!! 😀
Uh, sorry for biting you Bev. 😛
*bites Tessa’s ear*
*rubs ear* It’s a sign! She loves me!
FLT: “The city was his.” First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Jumps on puppy pile. AWWW that so helped with my sadness from my son going away to college. 🙂
I LOVE this group and our respect for each other’s opinions and because of you, I have read books I probably would not have and discovered books I absolutely fell in love with.
Thoughtless *sigh*
Oh, you two crazy kids.
I FREAKING LOVE KELLAN KYLE!!!!!
Sorry…just having a little Thoughtless nostalgia.
Bev is missing from that otter shot! Can’t you tell? Duh
Wow….I step away for a day and theres 60 plus comments to catch up on.
First Robin. Yes my partner and I adopted our only child from Ethiopia.
Amy….that was me who thought Manny was a monkey….sorry.
I have no issue, when reviewing books here, to be brutally honest as I feel this is a safe forum to do so….*side whispers* thanks Maryse. And I am generally open in my GR book reviews…if I dont like a book I will say so. But its only my opinion…not a personal judgement or critism towards authors, storylines or content. I guess Im naive because it didn’t occur to me that authors would be reading my reviews…I am usually writing for other readers.
You know how I’ve mentioned I get embarrassed by the book covers when I click on sales posts? Let’s add goodreads to that.
When I click on my home and everyone’s updates or on my book shelves, lol. Same with my ereaders. I know a lot of you are not bothered by it, and I seriously respect that. But I still get embarrassed.
I’m with you Bev. I don’t click any site with covers where other people can see. It doesn’t help that the covers keep getting raunchier. TBH there are some that simply turn me off to the book.
Same here, ladies. I’m SO done with the covers of half-naked guys or couples making out, and the majority of the time I won’t even look at the blurb if it has that sort of cover. The only way I consider one like that anymore is if someone here goes nuts over it.
And I hate it when I click a book with a decent cover and then it updates with a new one with a half-naked guy or couple on it. Dangit, don’t mess with my books, Amazon!!!
Oh, and to my friends on GR…I’m going to be updating my books (which I haven’t done in months) so I apologize in advance for flooding your home page with updates!! *cringes*
Yay! Finally Amy!
*giggle* We’ll see if you’re still saying that when I’m done, R. 😉
You guys…YOU GUYS!!
We missed Jean’s birthday!!! 🙁 Or *I* missed Jean’s birthday if it was mentioned on here. And I shouldn’t have because I made a note of it last year.
Jean, if you pop in…HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! Hope you had a fabulous birthday. Luffs you woman!
eeek! Did we really miss it? Recently we’ve had Maryse, Grey, R. and ??? who else? It seems like it’s been a busy couple of weeks for birthdays.
We did miss it, Fabi. It was on Monday.
*snicker* Looks like a lot of our parents were gettin’ busy in the cold winter months.
Oh, ick. BLECH. My mind actually went there. *shudder*
oh ma gawd
HAPPY BIRTHDAY “WEEK” JEAN
Um. I’ve never read Twilight or seen the films. Eek. Sorry Lesley. And I don’t really want to. *ducks to avoid peanuts* Not to denigrate anyone’s perfect right to love them. Just not my thang.
Yeah, this blog is a safe and friendly place. Thanks friends for all the larv out there and for all the great (non twilight) book ideas.
And happy belated birthday Jean! *huggle attacks*
I read the Twilight series. It was okay. I didn’t think it was that awesome, but it was okay. However, look how many people started reading because of it. I can’t say bad things about it just because of that.
Happy Birthday Jean!!
Twilight was the book that got me reading! I bought it for my daughter and then didn’t give it to her!
After a couple years of YA, I got tired of the genre and couldn’t find anything else so I quit reading. Then when the movie came out I picked up 50 Shades to see what all of the fuss was about and *poof* started reading again! After reading it 3 times in a row, I googled “what to read after 50 Shades” and voila, here I am 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN!!
I hope you got your slippers and gift cards.
Also, those book covers rarely have anything to do with the plot or characters of the book.
So hate the couples and half-naked guy covers. Give me the unique cover any day.
HAPPY, HAPPY,BELATED BIRTHDAY JEAN!!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wedding cake martinis for everyone! Er… I mean. BIRTHDAY CAKE!!! 😉 (same flavor). YUM! 😛
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN! I hope your year ahead is filled with many blissful reaing hours!
On covers….I recently downloaded Sarina Bowen’s Rookie Move and the cover here is the standard naked dude chest shot but the kindle version that loaded has a pretty cover pic of Brooklyn Bridge….much better.
I read Twilight and even saw the first movie. I think Edward was an interesting mix of bossy alpha and nerdy weirdo. They were certainly the books that spurred my paranormal/fantasy book crush for a while there.
I love them for the fact that those books (like 50 shades) inspired millions of people who hadn’t picked a book up for years to read. ..and continue to read.
My mum always told us as kids…you will never have a lonely hour if you welcome books into your life.
The crotch grab cover shot is probably the worst to me. Or hand down pants shot.
Agreed Lisa. I struggle when featuring those covers in my release day lists… YIKES.
I ditto Lisa.
Hellllloooooooo. *waves enthusiastically* Catching up with some of the comments above….and 50 Shades was my back to reading book series…and I only read it because I heard EVERYONE talking about it…from the pulpit and on! So I had to know what the fuss was about…which lead to *sighs* Travis…Gideon…Kyle…Remi…yeah, I have way too many book boyfriends to count.
Happy Happy birthday to Jean! Hope the weather has not been too bad for you this go round…was definitely thinking of you and Maryse this past week.
Ashamed to say….that I LOVE Twilight but have never read the books…*hides face in embarassment*. Team Edward!!!
I love the sexy men covers ONLY when I’m gawking at them. Hee hee
I HATE when other people (hubs & non-romance readers) see them. I am not even too happy having them on my goodreads shelves. It’s just plain embarrassing. I feel like a child hiding their Playboys or something!!
Now…some of those covers…are definitely not hard on the eyes…but yeah, I prefer the hubs and non-romance readers not to see the covers either.
*jumps into the pile* I love All of y’all
And happy belated birthday to Jean!!!
Yeah I don’t buy a book cos of a semi nekkid torso on the front. I buy it cos of the author or blurb or it’s a rec. I wish publishers would hear us. I hate those covers, and yeah, they are embarrassing when family members see them on your kindle. I feel like I’ve been caught reading icky porn when it’s probably just a romance with maybe a couple of hot scenes.
Exactly Jan…
You guys mean like this one?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30627065-stripped-down?ac=1&from_search=true
*snicker*
Yes Amy, just like that one. There have been a few where the male model is either hiding or holding his crotch. Really? Why would I want to read a book with that on the cover. Porn comes in plain brown wrapping. (lol – or at least it used to pre-Internet)
DG, what is your avatar?
