BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order)

  • Roomies by Christina Lauren <— CHRISTINA LAUREN SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!!

Carla: I just read Roomies by Christina Lauren and since the year is almost over, I think I can already say it was one of my favotires book of 2017. Its was breathtaking!

Kandace: Roomies by Christina Lauren was great too. It was probably my fav book written by this duo. I’m a sucker for this trope.

Tessa: Sinning in Vegas by Sam Mariano. A possessive jerk who doesn’t want his toy taken away vs a possessive jerk who wants what’s best for the mafia and loves her. BOTH screwed up and now she hates them both. SO GOOOOOOOD!
Tessa: Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews. Well, Ilona Andrews and it’s the bad guy’s story! Hugh’s story! And and and… it worked! I was rooting for him by the middle of it and was absolutely loving him by the end. I’m so glad they decided to listen to the fans and actually write their April Fools joke.

Jen C: Hey guys, American Queen by Sierra Simone is down

Amy: I’ve heard the American Queen series is unique because it goes THERE. After all the hullabaloo I’ve heard about it, I’m thinking I need to give it a shot.

JulieO: I read American Queen the day it came out and had to wait forever for the next book. I think I commented that the end chapter or two was a little eye opening for me because I had never read that being done before. I’m not a prude just never thought of that.
Loved those books. Read them twice also. Enjoy again.

Sharon F: my latest obsession is American Queen! It’s a trifecta of goodness for me. Dominance, strong male characters and I’m hoping for a triple relationship – because I don’t want her to have to pick one guy.

  • Flesh (Flesh Series Book 1) by Kylie Scott <— MY ORIGINAL FAVORITE BY THIS AUTHOR!! SUPER-STEAMY POST-APOCALYPTIC and it’s on super-bargain sale as we speak!

Julie O: Skin and Flesh Series? Those are my favorite books of hers. Nobody writes romance and zombies better.

Michelle M: I also really liked Flesh by Kylie Scott. Threesomes are usually hot and steamy (strictly speaking of the book world here!), but I was surprised how she developed the emotional connections between all three of them. And what better time to re-define the boundaries of a relationship and love than during the zombie apocalypse!

Beth: Flesh by Kylie Scott pushed my comfort zone for sharing  :)

Jen C: I loved Smart Tass when I read it last year! Very entertaining.
Tessa: Seriously good, with my only complaint being his “issue” seemed added for him to have one. Still, I loved it.  :D

Nay July 3, 2018 at 6:48 AM

Good morning! I’ve been waiting for Loose Ends–so excited for a Joe and Vi short story!!

Leslie M July 3, 2018 at 7:00 AM

*double yawn* Good morning.

Finishing up my current read The Hardest Fall by Ella Maise

Then for July’s TBR I have:

Just an Illusion by D. Kelly
More Than This by Jay McLean

Maryse July 3, 2018 at 8:00 AM

Good morning everyone!!!

Where’s the glitter to twirl in?

Leslie M July 3, 2018 at 8:18 AM

Everyone is too hot & too tired to twirl in glitter. :(

Tessa July 3, 2018 at 8:50 AM

I absolutely loved After the Field. :) My library lends out Abbi Glines and I grab her stuff as soon as they have it.

I put Ember on my wishlist. I didn’t know the series was still going. I gotta read that one too. Yay!!!!

Is it bad that what really excited me is the pre-order list? lol There are so many good books coming out in the next week, and Wild Hunger is one of them that I’m looking forward to the most. :)

Grey July 3, 2018 at 9:14 AM

*tosses glitter and alarms that go off even when you don’t set them* oopsie

So tired. Another to add to the list. The Best Friend by k. larsen comes out on Friday 7/6.

Maryse July 3, 2018 at 9:21 AM

Thank you Grey!!! I just added it. :)

Maryse July 3, 2018 at 9:22 AM

LOL Leslie!! And it will stick to our humid skin…

MichelleS July 3, 2018 at 10:21 AM

Good morning!

I’m still reading The Darkest Drae 3. My only complaint? Fade to black love scenes. While I don’t need every bump & grind in great detail, I’m old enough to want more than fade to black!

MichelleS July 3, 2018 at 10:22 AM

Especially if she’s an 18 year d virgin & he’s over a hundred & a beast! Seriously. Give me some details.

Leslie M July 3, 2018 at 10:41 AM

*giggles and blushes from MichelleS’s comment*

*heads to shower to wash off stuck on glitter*

Maryse July 3, 2018 at 10:47 AM

LOL MichelleS.

Yes. Details. ;)

Tessa July 3, 2018 at 12:25 PM

I agree, MichelleS! That was annoying and it isn’t even YA. Love the story, though, so much.

JulieO July 3, 2018 at 12:31 PM

Maryse
Did you ever find out from Kylie Scott if she is planning anymore zombie books?
So excited for the new KA. You know that Joe is my all time favorite. And finally Lucy from HEAVEN AND HELL will get her HEA. Yes!!!

Amy July 3, 2018 at 1:05 PM

Er, 62 degrees here with a high of 74 today. Sorry, ladies. :?

I’m SO glad I took some time off, starting today. I’m going shopping! RWB decorations, RWB ingredients for tomorrow (including a RWB sangria!), BBQ food for tomorrow, and FIREWORKS!!!

After I do some one-clicking from up there, of course. ;)

Amy July 3, 2018 at 1:07 PM

Maryse, did you start Jack and Josie yet? I’m really, REALLY liking it. The writing is the kind of straightforward, blunt writing I love in this type of story. And if it stays this way, I may end up loving it.

Robyn July 3, 2018 at 1:50 PM

How did I miss Roomies? Has anyone read it? It sounds angsty. I had to click that!

MichelleS- there has to be a rule that if a beast is involved, there must be “action” and I want to know about it!

I’m reading book four of Jane Yellowrock, then book 2 of the Tainited Accords and in between them I’m starting the Morelli series. I got a surprise…..I have the first book already in my kindle! So I’m going in.

Amy July 3, 2018 at 2:02 PM

Whoa, whoa, whoa…beasts and action? Tell me he’s in human form when said action takes place… :P

Maryse July 3, 2018 at 3:29 PM

*snort*!!!!

Jean July 3, 2018 at 4:30 PM

In love you guys! I can always come here for a great laugh!

I feel like an idiot, but what’s RWB? Did I miss something?

Jan July 3, 2018 at 5:48 PM

Ha ha Michelle. Yes, give us some dets. We’re not 13 anymore. (OK, as long as he’s in human form LOL)

Jean, I wondered the same thing. What’s RWB?

The Kristen Ashley collection looks good. Jo and Vi are favs of mine too.

*sips coffee, looking out the window at the winter landscape, wondering what to read next*

BTW Maryse, thanks for including all those new HRs. There’s a lot of us HR fans out here.

Tasha J July 3, 2018 at 6:15 PM

Red white and blue!

Jan July 3, 2018 at 6:23 PM

Ha ha. Thanks Tasha. Duh. It’s already 4th July here. Have a great day tomorrow all you US peeps. Our Australia Day is currently celebrated on January 26th.

bev July 3, 2018 at 7:05 PM

So, though love love the dramas have not dabbled in the k pop do much. But now this song has been on repeat today:

https://youtu.be/7ae40gpqumM

I couldn’t make sense of RWB either, lol.

Jean it will be the 4th you better be crossing the Delaware on the Cat’s Meow.

Ok…and…to go hit repeat again.

Tessa July 3, 2018 at 7:37 PM

Robyn, did you go through my 5 stars and start saying, I’ll read that one, and that one, and that one… :D SO MANY EMOTIONS!

I only found RWB to be a racing team.

Robyn July 3, 2018 at 9:31 PM

Tessa- you caught me! LOL What can I say, you read some good books. When I’m in a PNR/UF Slump I’ll see what you read! Hehe

Tessa July 3, 2018 at 9:35 PM

:D :D :D :D Best compliment ever!

Grey July 4, 2018 at 10:47 AM

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans! *tosses red white and blue confetti and glitter and spins around making a marvelous mess* Then hides all the Roombas.. LOL

Speaking of Roombas… Prime Day is coming up… what are we looking at?? Should we start group planning… I mean, this is almost as big as Black Friday, we need to be prepared. No shopper gets left behind. *cracks knuckles and straps on extra glitter and backpack* *giggle*

MichelleS July 4, 2018 at 12:02 PM

I wanna stalk Tessa’s PNR shelf too! On Goodreads?

MichelleS July 4, 2018 at 12:03 PM

My Roomba gets stuck under my sofa & ran over dog poop dragging it everywhere. It’s a big fail for me. Boo.

bev July 4, 2018 at 12:07 PM

Just imagine if it had been glittered.

MichelleS July 4, 2018 at 1:30 PM

At least then I would have seen it all. I have dark wood floors!

Tessa July 4, 2018 at 2:36 PM

Happy Fourth everyone in the US. I should be better at shelving my PNR shelf on GR. :) Maybe tomorrow or later today I’ll start that. *pulls up shelf*

Also, eeeew. Stupid Roomba!

Jan July 4, 2018 at 7:04 PM

That’s gross Michelle. bev, why did your mind go there? LOL.

Cheryl July 4, 2018 at 9:12 PM

Happy 4th everyone! I’m still so full from all the food and drink today. Now to read…

Leslie M July 5, 2018 at 7:04 AM

I died laughing over roomba incident and then promptly gagged and realized that it’s just gross. Once you have raised a child and changed all those diapers, you shouldn’t have to deal with poop anymore.

Hope everyone had a nice forth. It was so hot here that pool party I went to felt like a hot tub! ;)

Maryse, what was name of those makeup brushes you loved that were wicked cheap?

I am totally craving pepperoncini pot roast and am debating whether to make today or not.

Leslie M July 5, 2018 at 7:06 AM

Oooh, and I just trimmed my outta control mint plant and threw bunch in my coffee with some chocolate and…..mmmmm it was yummilicious!!!

Maryse July 5, 2018 at 8:27 AM

I love my outta control mint plants!! :D

Maryse July 5, 2018 at 8:36 AM

Leslie M!!

I’m making a list as we speak of all of our beauty recommendations. :) I’ll post the brushes on there, too.

Leslie M July 5, 2018 at 9:49 AM

Oooh, I like the sound of the beauty recs. Fun!!!

Grey July 5, 2018 at 10:39 AM

Oooh, well because I’m mostly silent on the beauty regimen… Can I add a tip? *giggle* Keep it together, Ela…

Curly haired girls… a tip for keeping the frizz under control. Don’t use a towel on your hair when you get out of the shower/bath! Get an OLD sheet. I’m talking SUPER old. The old, ugly ones that have a hole in them that you’re thinking of throwing away, or the ones that your grandmother has in the back of her closet…*those* ones are perfect. Cut those beauts into 4 sections, and voila hair sheets (towels). I use the fitted sheets actually, because the corners work well for the back of my neck and then I wrap the sheet around my head turban style. If you don’t have any old sheets laying around. You can use a super soft pillow case, it will work the same way, but it has to be soft, (think massive thread count Egyptian cotton) You don’t want it be scratchy at all. The reason you don’t want to use a towel, is because all of the rough fibers of the towel goes against the smooth texture of your curls and makes it more frizzy.

Step by step… When I first get out of the shower, I flip my head upside down and squeeze some excess water out. I don’t go nuts… it isn’t a huge deal. I finger comb through it all, then scrunch it up on top of my head and turban wrap the sheet around it, (I don’t wind my hair into the sheet, I wrap the sheet on top of my hair that’s bunched on top of my head -does that make sense?) Then what I do is after I have my hair up in my hair sheet for a bit (long enough to dry off, use q-tips, lotion my legs, get dressed… you know, the essential stuff), I will take it down, throw a half dollar sized dollop,of Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel in, spritz with a couple pumps of Aussie sprunch spray and bunch my hair a bit. Then I’ll pile my curls back on my head and wrap the hair sheet back around my head (don’t worry if your hair sheet is pretty wet…it’s fine, the material is wicking the moisture out of your hair, but not being so abrasive to the individual strands in the process) and put my minimalist makeup on, finish whatever else I need to do to get ready to go and then at the last minute before I leave the house, I take off the hair sheet. Scrunch my hair, spray it with Aussie Instant Freeze and I’m done. Curls for the day. It really isn’t as complicated as this long drawn out description makes it sound, hope it helps someone else out there! LOL!

bev July 5, 2018 at 10:54 AM

Grey, I plop my hair too. Use old t shirts. I scrunch in my gels and stuff on my wet hair forts then plop. Leave it on while I finish in the morning too. :)

bev July 5, 2018 at 10:58 AM

Ok, I’ve become obsessed with that group. It is just such a happy sound. It started with the song I posted up there….still on repeat and then on to this one:

https://youtu.be/LsbWd6sVFeo

Tessa July 5, 2018 at 2:56 PM

Okay, you all know I love reverse harems. BUT! I also said if the men are submissive… nope. So, Accidently Wolf by Erin R. Flynn (Which I didn’t know would be an RH) is a reverse harem with some of the most submissive men ever! I’m not judging if you like that and want to read it, but for me, NOPE. I like the massive alpha jerk too much.

bev July 5, 2018 at 3:10 PM

Tessa…if I keep going down this kpop and drama hole I may need to go to kcon next summer. You need to go with me cause I can’t go to pop concerts at 40 by myself, lol. Plus, in my head because you live in California you live next to LA. ;)

Amy July 5, 2018 at 3:25 PM

Glittery poop and Roombas? *retches*

Leslie, I just made that pot roast again a few days ago. Aaaaaa-mazing!!

Okay, we need to just get a road trip planned. Probably needs to be a caravan of sorts, but I could leave from here, drive down to Oregon and pick up bev and then head to California to snag Tessa (anyone else in California? I can’t remember…) before swinging through Texas to pick up Fabi (whether she wants us to or not  ), MichelleS, and R, and then…

Help me finish our epic road trip, ladies. I know we need to go to Florida for Maryse, Pennsylvania for Jean, and Massachusetts for Leslie, but I am drawing a blank for the other states we would need to drive through to pick up everyone. And isn’t Cheryl in the South? See?? I need help here. Then we could end the trip back in Seattle where we rent out a huuuuuuuuge suite and run all over Seattle and the Pacific NW visiting haunted places from the EIT series. Or, you know, whatever all y’all want to do. ;) Then everyone could drive home from there. FUN!!!!

JulieO July 5, 2018 at 3:42 PM

Somebody please send me the recipe or the link to this pot roast heavenly concoction you all talk about please? Either that or invite me over for dinner.
Amy your caravan needs to swing through Kansas City so I can jump on too, but damn it’s hot here!

bev July 5, 2018 at 4:08 PM

Cheryl and Grey are east coast….i believe. Tasha is maybe middle of the country..cause that narrows it down.

Maryse started her make up list. I couldn’t imagine back tracking through all those comments.

Yep, Amy, I’m East Coast… New York. I think Cheryl is too. Nay is Tennessee. Ela… isn’t she near Chicago? Lisa is Nebraska, I think… Then we’ll have to click the magic button on our caravan and jump across the pond… grab Paula in England… and dart down to Australia and rescue Jan and Melinda…(because of course they *need* to be rescued from Australia… said no one ever)

lol Bev, the distance between where I live and LA is more than the distance of all of Oregon height wise. LA approximately 350 miles away. :) To get to the most northern S. CA city (Santa Clarita) is over 300 miles.

I’m New Jersey, just over the bridge from Jean in the Philly area. Sounds like would be an awesome road trip.

Grey I did not know you were New York. You, me and Jean could get together. Maybe Jean could pick us up on her boat. ;)

Amy July 5, 2018 at 7:03 PM

SEE?!? I had Cheryl pinned in the South.

Oooh!! We could go to the Northeast and take a couple of days out on Jean’s boat before continuing on our road trip!

Cheryl July 5, 2018 at 7:53 PM

Amy, not totally wrong- I grew up in the south and still have family there. I did talk a while back about my southern expressions and my kids calling it my hillbilly talk.

Every Ugly Word by Aimee L. Salter is 1.99 and from what I remember it was on the intense side! She was badly bullied and I remember wanting to throat punch some people.

All three of the Penryn and the End of Days series is on sale! Book 1 is .99, book 2 is 1.99, and book 3 is .99! No idea why one is 1.99 and the other two are .99 but who cares, they are soooo good!

Amy July 5, 2018 at 7:55 PM

Aha Cheryl…THAT’S why I was thinking you’re in the South. ;)

It’s long to backtrack through the comments but fun. I have a search feature so that helps me focus and search for particular categories. :) It’ll be worth it when I’m done!

JulieO… I copied and pasted from one of my old comments for the Mississippi Pot Roast:

Okay so this is a mix of about 5 different recipes (’cause I don’t use butter, and I DO use the whole jar of pepperoncinis). Some recipes say only half, some recipes say the whole jar – I’m an “all in” type. ;)

But here’s how I make it:
Okay a 2-3 lb chuck roast
2 or 3 large carrots peeled and cut into chunks
5 or 6 red potatoes (small-medium – whole I don’t cut them)
2 stalks of celery
a whole thingie of fresh sliced mushrooms
a half cup of beef stock (or you can use an au jus packet)
a packet of ranch dressing powder
a whole jar of pepperoncini (juice and all) – trust me. Even the Pioneer woman says throw it all in. It cuts the gaminess of the meat, and the meat cuts the acidity of the whole jar. It just… evens out.

Official recipes use a whole stick of butter (I don’t, but I bet it’s awesome – I find the meat fatty enough as it is)

Throw the WHOLE lot into the crock pot (I put the veggies on the bottom and rest the meat on top of it all and then the mushrooms and the pepperoncinis on top, and sprinkle the ranch dressing all over it)

6-8 hours on low (I tend to find it ready at 6.5 to 7 hrs)

Here are a few official recipes:

(just Google SLOW COOKER MISSISSIPPI POT ROAST and you’ll see all sorts of variations but pretty much all the same thing). :D

I LOVE this suggestion Grey! I HAVE curly hair. I CURL it with a wand to have that smooth slick wave-curl, but sometimes I’d like to go just natural. I’m going to try this.

I can’t wait for Prime Day. I already have my beloved Roomba (got it last Black Friday).

As for MichelleS… I WISH they’d make a Roomba with a smell sensor. ;) LOL!!! Smells like poop, turn the other way and don’t look back!!!!

JulieO Did you see I posted the answer to your Kylie Scott question?? :D

It’s one of today’s reader questions (and she answered me).

Leslie M July 5, 2018 at 10:21 PM

What about Tasha? What part of country is she??

JulieO July 6, 2018 at 3:04 AM

Maryse
Thankyou for the recipe. Will try soon.
