Good morning! Is anyone reading All the Little Lights??
Fa la la la la la la la la! *giggle* I don’t want to go back to work today…
Maryse–the med is Trazadone. I forgot to mention that they told me that it’s actually and antidepressant which is now commonly used to treat insomnia (and I don’t have depression–they gave it to me strictly for insomnia). I’ll keep you posted if I have an side effects. Since I’ve had this crud and I’ve also tried to stop drinking coffee after 6 or 7 pm, I’ve actually been sleeping better, so I haven’t needed it the past couple of weeks.
YESSSS NAY!!! I’ve heard of it. Keep me up to date. I’d love to know if it works.
*tosses Grey’s glitter ’cause it feels like Monday but it’s Tuesday*
I am going to wait for feedback on All the Little Lights before I try it. Not sure if its my thang.
Happy tuesday! Ugh, off to work after long weekend! *drinks jumbo-sized coffee*
I’m looking forward to the Kiss Quotient next week.
And I really want to go back to bed. Did not sleep enough. But off to work I go.
But already Tuesday!
Cheryl let’s carpool, I want coffee and some of your crepes.
You guys are giving me neeeeeeds!!!
Crepe needs.
*sigh*
What can you have?
Bacon and eggs? Coffee with cream?
Yes to all of that bev. I can have anything and everything except bread, pasta, starchy vegetables (potatoes) and sugar. Oh and I have to whoa-it in the fruit department due to the high sugars (berries are fine).
A donut, maybe? Glazed croissant or iced maple, which to choose? Lol, sorry I’m just being mean now. 😛 Restrictive diets are the worst.
Yay Folsom!! I’m gonna try it real quick before I have to do adult stuff. Hubs went back to work last night and it was a rough one. I still need to finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone though AND finish that series AND I really want to read The Kiss Quotient too.
It’s going to be an 80 degree day and am listening to Hamilton on my commute. I can not number how often I listened to it last summer. Makes me sad that I won’t have anything new like it this summer.
It’s only 10:30 here and already feels like 92 out. The humidity has been high the past few days. I would love a nice 78 or so.
Cci ere m ready to go home and back to bed, lol.
Coffee!!! I only drink coffee in the morning, only one cup. Anything after will keep me awake at night. So after coffee, just water for the rest of the day.
Breakfast is just eggs and buttered toast. YUM You can have half of that Maryse. 🙂 I can’t do that type of diet. When I tried, I ended up with a ton of stomach pain. NOT worth it. I lasted two days… the second day is when the pain hit.
Cannot wait to read Folsom!!!
Oh, Stephanie Garber’s Legendary, sequel to Caraval, released today too! And I wanted to read The Death of Mrs. Westaway…too many books, too little time.
Berries are awesome! They are low in sugar and still packed with vitamins. 😀 Which make them extremely awesome. Oh, except grapes. Those have a ton of sugar.
Yeah… definitely no grapes, or pineapple or mango on this diet. *sigh* Mangoes are my favorite.
I may sneak in an apple here or there once I’m more efficient at this and know my body can stand more carbs and still remain Keto. And for vitamin C issues (since I can’t eat oranges), I have a lemon every single day in my water (or on my veggies with some olive oil and salt and pepper). Sometimes two lemons. And I take a multivitamin.
Oh yeah! Mayo is fine too!! I try and keep my eating as clean as possible, not too many processed extras in my meals, but at least once in awhile it doesn’t bother anything (like if I want to make a chicken or tuna salad – mayo is fine).
So what do you eat Maryse? You just cut out most of my food groups with your list! LOL
I finished The Idea of You and did my whining on Maryse’s review page. That book! GAH! I just can’t get started on that again.
On a good note, Summer Skin peaked my interest from above. Rugby player with an ego and a scorned girl out to even the score…yep!
I’d share my breakfast, but I’m only having an iced coffee.
I eat all sorts and any kinds of meats and veggies (minus potatoes & corn), soups and cheeses (I can even eat Pizza – fully loaded, cheese, pepperoni and the works as long as it’s a cauliflower crust, or one made with almond flour or coconut flour), eggs (fine).
Deserts are fine made with those special flours (and something called “Swerve” – a sugar substitute, I think it’s erythritol). Dark chocolate fine, berries, nuts, pork rinds, fine…
There are all sorts of makeshift recipes to have the stuff you love, but with these substitutions. It’s kind of fun since I love to cook anyway. For “noodles” I eat shiritake noodles, or spaghetti squash, or Zoodles.
Coffee and water and green tea are fine. Lemons and limes anytime I want… no fruit juice. No soda of course.
It’s working. SERIOUSLY. No bloating, losing a lb every few days, no swelling or joint pain, and holy moly I swear I’m actually sleeping on average 6-7 hours every night again. It’s been two weeks now!!!!
Avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, butter… ALL FINE. Full fat dairy… fine.
I just watch the carbs, to keep it in the “Keto” area, and I’m good!
Of course there are two sides of the fence when it comes to these particular diets, nutritionists and doctors on both sides that tout the benefits and those that warn about the downfalls or concerns… so don’t do it unless you talk to your doctor and get the proper info on it of course, but for me it seems to fit (so far). 😉 I feel good!
You can just make mayo at home if the processed thing is an issue. It’s just egg and oil, sometimes a little mustard to help with getting it to set. All the rest is extra for flavor. 🙂 You may even make a mayo that tastes a hundred times better than anything at the store.
I bet you’re right, Tessa!!! I’ll try it. 🙂
I remember my mom and I used to make our own Cesar salad dressing when I was a teen (with eggs and oil and vinegar and cheese and all sorts of stuff that makes that delicious flavor). It was my favorite!!! I should ask her what the recipe was.
Bev that would be some carpool. Might take longer to get to work than you would like! 😉
Think I’m going to read The Hating Game since it was a bargain now. Summer Skin sounded good, until I saw the price. Think I’ll wait on that one.
Oooh, Ceasar Salad! Yum again. I’m tempted to try to make a mayo. I would use yellow mustard cause I hate the others. lol Some use lemon to ‘freshen” the flavor (aka use a sour taste to make it taste better) and some use apple cider vinegar. I’d use the vinegar due to allergies, but the recipes I saw look good. Honestly, I want to do it so I can make a marjoram flavored mayo for artichokes. I had that at a Ren Fair once and I was HOOKED.
I’ve never HAD marjoram!!!! Oh now I’m serious intrigued. Marjoram flavored mayo. And Artichokes are fine for my diet I’m VERY DARN sure of it. What a treat!!!! I’m doing it.
Yep!!!! Keto! YAY ME!!!!
Mmm, I haven’t had a Caesar salad in years!! And…eek! My Mom got me a gift certificate to this yummy local meal service I’ve been dying to try and I just saw that you get a free order of lemon cookies w/every order this week! It’s on my list for tomorrow.
Tasha. I love lemon cookies. I think I can make ’em with my coconut flour. I will give it a go. A whole new cooking experience for me.
I’m craving the worst salty foods.
I’m in the store and chips, pig skins, and salt & vinegar chicken wings. I’m refraining but not sure what all the salt is.
OMG WHAT??? Salt and vinegar chicken wings?????????? OMG WHAT???? How? WHERE? CHIPS? ACTUAL CHICKEN WINGS????
P.S. I love pig skins so I’m not feeling tooooooooo deprived on this diet.
I love ceasar dressing, the only way I’ll ever try an anchovie.
I love anchovies! I use anchovy paste and use it for homemade Ceasar dressing. I also use it in a heavy sauce, like a stew. Yum.
Oooh, you never had marjoram? It’s awesome and one of the best herbs. 🙂 Especially if you also add a little rosemary, garlic, or oregano. Now I want artichoke. lol I usually season the water with those due to that Ren Fair to try to get that flavor back.
Bev. I get cravings for salt a LOT (seriously, only water all day equals you NEED salt) and dill pickles pack the best punch on killing the urge. Even over chips! I always have a jar of pickles in my refrigerator, and will eat one every third or fourth day. It kills all craving. I used to get the big dill pickles, but could only eat half before I got sick of salt. It works that well.
Actual chicken wings. I don’t ever really eat them but love salt and vinegar. So I bought some one day and they were good and saw them today and wanted them again. I got them from the cold deli case at Safeway.
I love pickles. Especially if I kind find a sour one, never ever sweet. Never. Ever.
bev OMG salt and vinegar is my favorite flavor of ANYTHING, and chicken wings are ALSO my favorite and both of those are absolutely Keto. I’ve NEVER seen salt and vinegar chicken wings. I would literally squeeeeee out loud if I found them in my Publix deli. I will ask them to make them. They actually do cool stuff like that, so I just might get lucky.
Ok, now I am craving salt AND pickles. Totally buying pickles tomorrow.
too love pickles. I am into all the salty and sour things.
Looks like Google will bring up some recipes. Though why so many people add powdered ranch to everything I do not know, lol.
Food. Nom nom nom. So hungry. I’m totally eating chips and drinking a Starbucks frappuccino right now. sigh. No willpower. I need to lose 15-20 pounds, but I have straight up no willpower and am super stressed right now, so I know I am not doing it.
I’ve had my poor 4 legged baby at the vet… It isn’t looking good and I’m super sad about it. Hopefully they’ll have her lab results back tomorrow and we will have some answers… I am fairly sick over it myself, I just need answers… 😥
Grey I would be DEVASTATED if anything was wrong with my sweet babies (my minpins). Ugh I am so worried with you. What happened?
Thx Maryse for the sale alert, just downloaded Hating Game and have been wanting to read it. I need some light, fun reads so also looking at I Flipping Love You and cannot wait for Kiss Quotient too!
That’s hard Grey. I’ve lost 2 of my 3 over the last 3 years. My one now is an old girl too. The hard part of owning pets. Ok hope the labs come back good.
We’re not sure, Maryse… She was vomiting like a month ago, and since then she hasn’t been right…her appetite has gone way down. This past weekend when we were away, she flat out refused to eat for my mom at all (who she loves…and takes care of her often and she sees every day when my mom comes to take my kids to school) and now my doggie has lost a ton of weight and just isn’t her… The vet did some blood work, we talked about a couple of ideas… I’m trying to pray for the best, but preparing for the worst. It’s heartbreaking.
Thinking of you Grey! I have two aged fur babies myself so I really feel for you. Will hope for a good outcome….sending you hugs!
Hope everything is okay, Grey–please keep us posted as to what you find out. I was in a very similar situation with one of our dogs several years ago, and I can empathize!
Grey sorry to hear about your dog baby. Hoping it’s a fixable answer when you get her labs back.
Y’all, All the Little lights is amazing!!!!
Ashley–would you consider is YA or NA? I’m seeing both.
**it YA (clicked before proofing–I HATE that! lol)
Grey, I’m sorry to hear about your doggy. *hugs* Crossing my fingers for the pup.
Everyone needs to read the Hating Game! It’s that good. I’ve been in a little reading funk and decided to switch genres. I found the most amazing PNR book. All the books are out. I’m still fairly new to the PNR world. I get really excited when I find something I like. The book I read was called Good Intentions (The Road to Hell Series) by Brenda K Davies. I’m so excited to dive into the second book.
Kandace that one is awesome (Hating Game). Agreed! Now I’m intrigued by the Brenda Davies one.
I am so happy I actually loved some books this month!! Grey, set off all the glitter bombs please
Best of May:

Oh jeez! What a first line! In my defense it’s a KU book & I was in the mood for shy nerdy girl & alpha male trope. It’s fitting the bill. She says the funniest things.
NAY!! OMG! That was the series I was telling you about that reminded me of KA. I had it wrong. Wasn’t Badtards of Boston!!! So glad you posted this. Okay… book two is the teacher-student one. Yippee!!! You’re going to love it.
I mean book one is teacher one. Sheesh. I’m a mess. I read them out of order!
FLT: “Love is patient.” American Queen by Sierra Simone. I’m loving this so much! 65% in andI have a couple of friends who’ve DNF’d at this point but I’m not seeing it! Wonder if something big is about to happen to change my mind.
Best of May: A beta read of my friend Nicky F. Grant’s “Beyond the Truth.” I loved it harddddd! Her first book was erotic romance and I loved it too for the love triangle, but this one is explicit contemporary romance and much more my thing. It gave me The Unrequited feels!
R. please remind us when Beyond the Truth goes live!!!
Sorry about your dog Grey. I just went through that w/mine, months ago, I feel your pain! I hope you get good results and she feels better soon.
Best of May- I can participate! Lol, It’s a toss up between The Butterfly Garden and The Perfect Mother. I loved them both, but they’re so different from each other so I feel like they should be best of in their own category.
I haven’t picked up Daughter of Smoke and Bone in a couple days, I’m sleep deprived and have all these monkeys on my own again and I can’t focus. I was so into it too! I started a sample of How to Walk Away also and I’m loving the sound of it, but can’t focus there either. 🙁 And then! I saw that Us Against You releases next Tuesday and I’m so book overwhelmed! I MUST read that one, especially since I LOVED Beartown and it’s still fresh in my mind.
I had to backtrack. I’m so sorry Grey! 🙁
Yes, Michelle! That’s it! OMG, it’s similar to KA, but not. Usually when I read that about a book, I don’t get the KA vibe at all, but I definitely do with these! Although I don’t want to take anything away from Giana Darling–she’s a great writer in her own right and her writing is definitely different.
I’m reading the 2nd book now (Zeus’s), and I want to sit down and get through it SO badly, but every time I try, I get interrupted, so I’m only at 20%. At this point, I’m hoping she’ll write a book about every member of the Fallen MC!
Did you see the 3rd one? It’s called ‘Good Gone Bad’. I added it to the GR series link a couple of days ago when I realized it wasn’t included.
Grey, *hugs* and I hope your dog is ok.
R – Did you skip the prologue like I recommended?
Best book of the month is between a few, but as much as I adore The Morell series, I also read Dark Queen by Faith Hunter. Seriously, that book was THE BEST of the series to date. It wasn’t just the culmination of all the storylines ending, but seriously, THE EMOTIONS. I ugly cried. Just out and out ugly cried. I get teary-eyed, but ugly cry, not normal for me. This one did it. *grins* One last book and the series is done. I’ll miss it.
I was too late! I remember you mentioning it somewhere before but had forgotten until you commented. But honestly, it was the prologue that hooked me. I HAD (HAVE) to know how they got to that point. I think I would have loved it anyway, but that’s what initially drove me.
FLT:
Dear Miss Carter,
I am sorry I was bad in class yesterday. I did not mean to cause a dissrupshun, and I’m sorry that I broke your best pens, but I am not sorry that I HATE Arizona Turner.
She is ugly and she talks way too much. I don’t know why you don’t send her to the office like you send me. She deserves to be punished too, and I hope she dies tomorrow so I don’t have to see her or her ugly metal mouth anymore.
Sincerely,
Carter.
Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G
I had to do the whole thing. Needless to say, that little letter hooked me. 🙂
Tessa – love it! I adore stories where they are kids that fell in love. Pig tails, ice cream, first kiss…. sigh…
Michelle – I loooved The Hardest Fall. I read it a few weeks ago. It was a perfect NA slow burn. I liked how shy she was and that it was a little suspenseful too.
Has anyone read Folsom yet? I’m curious to see how good it is! I also started and finished that sample a couple days ago, but wanted to finish my current read first.
I’m reading it as we speak Tasha. Loving it so far.
Tasha, this is what you do. You put the books down and watch a k drama. Then when the Kiss Quotient comes out you read that with me.
Problem solved. 😉
Tessa!!! I have to read that one. I adore stories where couple were childhood friends (or enemies). The flashbacks are always so fun. In fact, I am reading one now with childhood flashbacks. Come to me Quietly by A.L. Jackson.
Hey Maryse, I got to chose theme for June’s TBR challenge and I dubbed it as “month of Maryse”. 😉 Which means we pick one of your faves OR a rec from the blog. I picked Come to me Quietly. (as did a few others) Since you don’t go on Goodreads, I will update you on everyone’s picks.
Yes keep me updated!!! I LOVE this idea!!! 😀
It’ll be fun. We will eat ramen and salt & vinegar chicken wings.
*sigh* I can’t eat Ramen anymore, bev.
But!!!!! Bring on the fatty chicken wings with all of that salt and vinegar skin!!!!!! I AM SO IN!!!!!!! 😀 😀 :D!!!!
People get compared to KA all the time. Then I read them and it will feel too much like a copy because they copy some of her ticks. But since both Nay & MichelleS like these it makes me very curious.
Oh yeah. Maryse, American Queen fits the flashback list!
Okay I’m adding it to my makeshift “notes page” R.
Yeah, it does. I forgot about that.
Sincerely, Carter does too! OMG, five stars! It made me so happy and my heart swooned. I loved it.
Lol, I can’t even watch my very own show/movie right now, Bev. By the time the kids get to bed, I have 2 hours approx. to fall asleep, it never happens, before the next feeding. And then the toddler gets up, Bc he doesn’t sleep well on his own yet. *sigh* and it’s a long night of up n down and fighting w/him also.
Looking forward to your review, Maryse!
Finally put my big girl panties on and went all in and read Driven!! Fell in love with every single character. Amazing work Kate Stewart!!!
YAY LINDA!!! WE GET YOU! Drive drove me nuts in all the best ways. <3
** sorry Drive**
No idea why Sincerely Carter wasnt on my TBR as I own that one. Anyway, its on there now!
Nay – there’s a book three in the series? Yippee! My next read.
Uhhh, sorry, Michelle. I should have mentioned it’s not out yet…soooorrrrryyyy!!!
I’m playing HQ for $100,000 right now. I’m sure I won’t get past question 3 or 4! lol
Go Nay!!
Yup, out on question 4. UGH!!!!!
Michelle, I loved The Hardest Fall and that first line hooked me. *giggle*
Tessa, Sincerely, Carter was great too!!
FLT:
“I have a theory. Hating someone feels disturbingly similar to being in love with them.” The Hating Game: A Novel by Sally Thorne.
I have to say, so far this book is a little funny and a lot boring. Definitely slow going.
It’s okay Michelle. Tomorrow the next Drae book comes out. 🙂
My favorite book for May was definitely Lessons in Corruption, the first book in Giana Darling’s biker series.
What was the question Nay.
Cheryl I had a friend tell me that the other day. She said with my affinity for DNF’ing lately, she wants me to hang in there because it starts slow but is ultimately awesome.
Happy dance MOGUL!!!!!! So excited stopped what I was reading to start & finish it!!! Ian Ford, my new book boyfriend!! So freaking good!! Just like all of Katy Evans books!! Read them all. Multiple times!! 5 star read for me!!
YAY Lisa!!!!! Thank you for the feedback. I loved her first few books, and she just keeps on writing the steamy alphas!!
I think it’s going to be a while but I totally will! Thanks!
Umm…if you want the chicken wings you have to watch a K drama or read the Kiss Quotient.
Thems the rules.
bev… for the chicken wings.
Can I watch a K-Horror instead??? :D!!!
Bev–it was something about a microwave. I actually hit the wrong button. I was sitting there looking at the correct answer, and my finger went to the wrong one. I think it may have even been question #3. Ugh! I got to #11 that one time and now I can’t ever get past #6. I haven’t been playing nearly as much lately, though–I got tired of losing! lol They’re doing prizes of $200K, $300K and more during the NBA playoffs.
I don’t like chicken wings….lol Or Ramen really. I’ll eat those if I must, but pass on the wings. Tomorrow is national donut day!! I. Am. Starving. And I’m really sad Bc I picked up my food order today and she forgot my lemon cookies, so now I have to wait till next time. And I don’t wanna wait! *sniffles* I’m craving all the sweets right now. Must need that sugar to function on such little sleep. Hah!
GASP!!! Okay Tasha… we may be book-twins but I suppose… not so much food-twins.
Ramen and chicken wings are MY FAVORITE.
Although Ramen is out of the running for now…. so bring on the wings!
Although – lemon cookies… I’m with you on those. I have a Keto lemon-raspberry WITH icing cake that I may attempt today (instead of regular flour, I use coconut flour). See? We have yummy stuff too!
Maryse (and everyone)–I’ve been helping out a new-to-me author, Jamie Slosser, with getting a series set up on GR that’s a pretty cool concept, so I thought I’d pass it along. It’s 14 authors who are releasing 14 standalone novellas, each on a different day from 5/31-6/13, and every title is the name of a cocktail. The series is called ‘The Cocktail Girls’, and it appears that each one is about a different cocktail waitress in Vegas. So far, about 9 of them are listed on GR. Oh, and all the ones I’ve seen are free with KU. Here’s the list of books in the series and their release dates:
May 31: His Old Fashioned by Frankie Love
June 1: His Mimosa by Jamie Schlosser AND His Irish Coffee by Jessica Lake
June 2: His Whiskey Sour by Kim Loraine
June 3: His Champagne by Dori Lavelle
June 4: His Manhattan by Tracy Lorraine
June 5: His Blushing Bride by Emilia Beaumont
June 6: His Perfect Martini by Angel Devlin
June 7: His Long Island Iced Tea by Roxy Sinclaire
June 8: His Hurricane by Alexis Adaire
June 9: His Sloe Screw by Alexandria Hunt
June 11: His Vegas Bomb by Derek Masters
June 12: His Redheaded Slut by Vivian Ward
June 13: His Gin and Juice by Alexx Andria
I thought these would be great to read to help me get caught up on my GR annual reading challenge since I’m waaay behind.
Maryse–didn’t know if this might fit in with the Friday Finds??
Nay!! Thank you for the Cocktail Girls list… I’m looking them up right now!
Tasha–I’ve been meaning to say that I’m glad you’ve found a little time to read. I’m so happy for you and I’m sure you’re enjoying your little one so much! My favorite time with all 3 of my boys was from birth to about 8 months. I LOVED every minute of it!
Cheryl, I didnt love The Hating Game and don’t get all the hype. 🙁
Yes, up to 8 months is the BEST! That toddler stage tho, *deep breaths*. Haha
I loved The Hating Game.
But isn’t it funny when we read a hyped book and you don’t like it?
I mean let’s be honest. Don’t you ever think how bad the writing, plotting, pacing, and characterization is and wonder WTH?
Like is everyone drunk reading without me?
Then if someone hates a book I love I think how great the writing, plotting, pacing, and characterization is and wonder WTH?
Like were you drunk while reading that?
I love toddlers and the way they see the world.
I am weirdest mom in world because I am not a huge fan of babies. My fave age is 3 to 5.
And YES Bev, I often think most of you all are drunk when reading since I don’t get the hype for soooooo many books! 😉
In all seriousness, my issue with The Hating Game is that I read so much CR that it was “same old” to me. I have a hard time when books are too similiar to previous books I have read. (I absolutely loved Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James which is this trope)
bev that happens to me a lot. Books I love I think resonate with me and not others. I read the sample of the Hating Game quite awhile back and it didn’t suck me in but because of all the raves and on mega sale I’m going to try again. Tasha, I read Folsom. It is unique. Reminds me a bit of the Handmaid’s Tale meets Hunger Games meets hotness. It’s good and I am curious for the next one to find out what happens next.
Good to know, Marina! I haven’t seen The Handmaid’s Tale, but I get the gist.
Now I’m gonna have to check out Practice Makes Perfect, Leslie!
Bev, I feel that way about so many books, lol. My face gets all screwy and my eyes bug when I see one that everyone raves about and I read it and I feel exactly as you described. And when someone doesn’t adore one that I did, hand to chest, gasp, all offended for my poor book’s feelings!! Lol
Also, you toddler lovers are crazy! Maybe you haven’t met the right one to sway your opinion (mine). Also my nephews. (I believe it’s all from my hubby’s side) And several turds I’ve met at the park and what not. Haha…The temper on my child is insane. The majority of the day is made up of tantrums, massive tantrums, over the most ridiculous things. And he’s started talking back, so fun! He’s been potty trained for a year, but has decided to pee standing up now so I also get to clean the entire bathroom a few times each day. He won’t sleep by himself. It’s a huge ordeal all night long, has been for too long. He’s destructive and unpredictable and also sweet and funny and frustrating and all the things! Exhausting. Lol
Tasha… tell us your most obnoxious/hilarious toddler tantrum please!!!!
I love looking at those toddler-tantrum memes on Facebook… I laugh hysterically.
“He’s crying because I won’t let him eat the styrofoam” *snort*
Well, my son was a devil baby and rotten toddler. Luckily now he is worlds best teenager and I love him to pieces. My love for toddlers is just because they are so darn cute at that age. Plus, when they are not yours, you can give them back! 😉
