*tosses glitter* been a while, just saw the cover release for Kill Switch by Pen Douglas and wow, it certainly is a Devil’s Night brand of excitement!!
Happy Tuesday!
Happy Tuesday Grey!!!! 😀
Good morning!
Why is it that every year when the nominees for the GR Choice Awards come out that I feel like the most uncultured, shallow reader ever?
And I must say, I’m really scratching my head at many of the books that were nominated (and not nominated) this year.
I’ve got 5 days to read several books so that I can at least participate in a couple of the categories besides ‘romance’ or ‘fantasy’.
*yawns and stretches*
Good morning, ladies!
*points to Nay*
What she said. I could only vote in maybe 3 or 4 categories. 😕
*nods*
*sips coffee*
Nay… tell us what books you chose (and how you liked ’em). 🙂
Happy Tuesday! *plays in glitter with glee as it finally stopped raining*
I feel like a total book nerd fraud as I don’t like Harry Potter, have never read Pride & Prejudice, hate the “classics” I have read and every year I hardly know any of books on GRs list.
I haven’t had many 5 stars this year and even fewer of ones published in 2018. I did write in votes for romance (Bring Down the Stars) and debut author (Waiting for the Sun).
Ooh, and I forgot….I voted in “best of the best” category.
It Ends With Us
Every single woman needs to read this book.
Maryse–I’m sad to say that I’ve only read TWO in the romance category (All Your Perfects, which I loved, and From Lukov with Love, which I didn’t). And there are several others I had planned to read, so I’m going to try to fit at least two of them in.
If I read The Kiss Quotient, that’ll cover one from romance and one from debut author (I can’t believe I haven’t read a single book from debut author), sooo I’m definitely going to read The Kiss Quotient and I’m going to try to pick one more from romance and one from mystery/thriller or fantasy. I hate to vote for a book simply because it’s the only one from the list that I’ve read. I know I can do write-ins, and I will if I have to, but I’d like to give a few of the books that are already among the noms a fair shot.
I also get tired of certain authors getting noms simply because they are who they are.
GOOD MORNING LOVELIES
*DITTO* everything Nay said. I do have to say I have had The Kiss Quotient (have not read) but it keeps getting recommended to me. Not sure why I have not read it yet.
Yep, I’ve read 2. 2!!! The Kiss Quitient and All Your Perfects. There are a bunch that were on my tbr or that I own or came in from the library that I wanted to read, but life. Not a good reading year for me, but I knew it wouldn’t be.
Little stinker is trying to crawl now to ensure I read 1 for the foreseeable future. Haha
I haven’t even looked at it yet. *sigh*
Just a reminder, the challenge threads are still open, we will be picking on Thursday.
I’m between books. Don’t know what I’m in the mood for.
I may read Charlaine Harris’s new 1 next. That or Sarah J Maas. I need me some paranormal now that I’m back catching up with True Blood. I’m team Eric now! On season 4, but Alcead!! Maybe I could be team Alcead.
Oh, new Mrs Maisel coming in a month, eeeep!!!42
GREAT NEWSLETTER! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY!! My pleasure Dee!!! 😀
Why are you mentioning the C book, Maryse?
LOL Ela!!!
‘Cause it was just released in Audio… and we know there are plenty of C-book addicts in our group. 😛
I have read 5 of the books on the Romance Category:
Kiss Quotient
Hello Stranger
Wedding Date (Jasmine Guillory)
From Lukov
Wicked Wallflower
I did enjoy the Wedding Date. It is an interracial romance that takes place in the Bay Area/LA and since I am originally from the Bay Area it made it for interesting to read. Her new book is on this list. Loved the Kiss Quotient but some of the others were just ok.
*starts dancing* I won Dangerous Liars in a Goodreads giveaway! 😀
Grey, I have to go to Facebook now just to see that cover! This is the one I’ve been anticipating the most.
Already finished Dark Harmony. If anyone has read the series, read this now! I don’t think I have many greats this month, but this was the perfect ending to the series. Also, if you read it, the Unearthly series takes place in the same world, though YA. It does make me have a theory with one phrase said, but sadly, no guarantee I’m right.
Ladies, I am SO happy I’m not the only one! I looked at the nominations under romance, scratched my head, got up and walked to the coffee pot. Surely, this cannot be so. I haven’t read one single book on the list. Wow, Humpf!
I did 1-click a book under the fantasy category called Pestilence by Laura Thalassa (new to me author).
Did you all see the “best of the best” category? I absolutely love some of those books. I voted for Wing and Ruin, because it was really one of my all-time favorites, specifically that book.
Teri, it was under the romance section. I have Birthday Girl but haven’t read it. Literally, it was the only book I’ve read.
Tessa–I may have already asked this, but if I did, I’ve forgotten your answer. Does anything in Pestilence cross over to the Bargainer series? I need to continue with the Bargainer series, but since I have an affinity for four horsemen books, I was thinking of going ahead and reading Pestilence as my other romance book. I lurve the cover of it (the newer one with him by himself).
I just got an email from Netgalley. The entire Charley Davidson series (1-12) by Darynda Jones is ‘Read now’!!
I voted for Sadie (YA fiction), All Your Perfects (Romance), and It Ends With Us (Best of the Best) because OF COURSE IT’S THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!
At least to me it is. 😉
And yeah, I haven’t read any of the others to be able to vote on them. *sigh*
Nay, they are two separate worlds and stories. Go ahead and read it. 🙂 I can’t wait for the next in the series. Then finish the Bargainer series. 😛
Oooh, a read now for books that are normally 8 bucks each? WOW
I voted High Voltage for Fantasy. The only one that was up there that I considered was Bright Burning, but High Voltage was better. Best YA fantasy was Cruel Prince. *swoons* EVERYTHING I love in a book, including a huge bully. 🙂
For those voting, remember, if you don’t like the choices, just write in your own choice. Second round is always full of new books because of it. If not for Pesti, I might have done that with Romance.
I can’t believe My Oxford Year isn’t on the list, so I have nominated it in several categories. It was definitely one of the best books of the year for me as well as one of the best books of all time on my list. If you liked it I’m asking that you add it as well for a nomination. I added for debut author as well as Romance and fiction.
Susan I LOVED IT SO HARD!! 5 STARS PLUSSSSSS LOVED IT!! I agree with you. Best book in ages!
Ooh, good point Tessa! Writing in our own picks for the chance to have them make it to the next round. 😀
Susan! *snaps fingers* THAT’S the one I was thinking of. I knew there was a book I read this year by a debut author, but I couldn’t remember which one and haven’t looked through my read books yet. You saved me the trouble!
I’d only read 5 in the romance category (kind of surprised me) – but I had read at least one book in many of the other categories. So, I’m going to call that a win and pat myself on the back. I did have a hard time picking just one in the Best of the Best category because I loved so many of them. I picked It Ends With Us because I agree with Leslie that every woman should read it. I believe that so much so that it was the first Colleen Hoover book I recommended to my daughter. She read it and gave it to several friends to read as well. It’s a powerful read!
Thanks for including An Inconvenient Plan!
If anyone wants to read Pestilence (see Nay & Tessa’s comments above) – we are doing an impromptu BR on GR – Nay has it set up and we’re plsnning to start tonight. Come join us – the more the merrier!!
Thank you Leslie! <3
Okay! I wrote in My Oxford Year for debut author and Transcend for fiction. Fingers crossed!
This is kind of cool. It put a smile on my face in the middle of a some what taxing day.
It is the group iKon on a program where the singers try and get 300 fans present to perform parts of the song with them with no rehearsal. I guess they are the first to have all 300 fans. Someone posted it on a blog I read.
Just the expressions of joy on the fans faces and then on the performers….I dont know made me happy. Like a giant joyful choir.
It starts with Love Scenerio (not pronounced that way, lol) which was a huge hit for them especially in elementary schools.
Anyway like I said made me smile.
https://youtu.be/vJK6ZpfeGQo
Yeah I haven’t really read that many of the GR nominees either. I voted for a lovely HR for best romance – Hello Stranger. I know a CR will win, but it’s a lovely and well-written book and I’m happy to vote for it. Burn Bright for fantasy. Susan I’m keen to read My Oxford Year but it’s not being released in Australia till mid-2019 🙁
Happy Halloween!!!
Hey guys! I agree with all your comments about the GR selections. I think the only book I read was All Your Perfects. How is that possible?
Wanted to let you all know, I just read Doll House by John Hunt. It was crazy and definitely not for the faint of heart but I loved it! Cringeworthy beginning, but so intriguing I couldn’t put the book down!
Happy Halloween everyone!
Happy Halloween!
I am trying to get my day started but need a plan for supper. No clue what to cook…I need something easy.
Happy Halloween everyone!!! I’ll be wearing Halloween pajamas tonight. I love them and they are fuzzy. 😉
Leslie–when I want easy, I do baked spaghetti. I use a doctored jar sauce with Italian sausage added (ground beef is fine too), but you can easily use it straight from the jar, with or without added meat to make it easier.
In a large, deep casserole dish (I use an oblong one that’s about 10″ long and 3″ deep), layer cooked pasta (spaghetti or whatever you want to get rid of), sauce, shredded cheese (I use mozzarella, monterey jack, shredded parm, and maybe a little colby or chedder. If I have bags with a little left in them, I pour that in too), and whatever extras you want–I add black olives and mushrooms, and if you add chunks of fresh mozzarella, it makes it super yummy! Since my dish is deep, I do at least 2 layers of everything.
Cook it on 375 for about 30 minutes (or until cheese is melted well). If cheese on top starts getting too done, put foil over it toward the end of cooking time. Even though I use a mixture of cheeses in the layers, I use the best melty cheese (like jack or mozz) on top so that it doesn’t get hard/tough as it cools.
My boys like bread with it, so I do barbecue bread, buttered on both sides and browned in skillet. But for easy, you can do any type, of course.
It gives me several days of meals if I use a family size jar of sauce with the adds and about 12 oz of pasta. And we love our cheese, so I usually end up using at least a pound of it. You can adjust the amount of pasta (or sauce) according to how saucy you like it. Sometimes I add a can of crushed/diced tomatoes with Italian seasoning (or whatever canned tomato product I have in my pantry) to my sauce to make the dish extra saucy.
Nay, I always make my spaghetti sauce using doctored up jar sauce. Just add my veggies, meat and spices (sometimes parmesan too) and I always love it!!
Now I’m hungry for pasta… I think I’ll make zoodles with tons of sauce and cheese, to ease my pasta cravings.
HAPPY HALLOWEENIE!
Nay, I like the sound of baked spaghetti. I used to make a baked ziti but haven’t made in forever. My issue is I can’t do jarred sauce…it tears apart my stomach. So I do huge batch of homemade sauce and freeze but I am out and don’t have time to make. But, I think I decided to do sausage & peppers with roasted sweet potatoes.
I haven’t made zoodles in forever either. Yum.
I was going to do ham and mashed sweet potatoes tonight, but the ham is still frozen and I had housekeepers today and didn’t wanna get in their way. So, that’s tomorrow. Tonight is pizza. I don’t like baked spaghetti. Or lasagna too much, I think it’s all that cheese- too much of a good thing.
Housekeepers were SO amazing. What a treat. Only thing is, I keep going through the house like a psycho putting things exactly as they were. I even unmade my bed, lol. I don’t like to take the covers down when I go to get in.
Leslie, same with the spaghetti sauce, but I found Prego makes a sensitive recipe without onion or garlic that tastes amazing AND is easy on my stomach. It’s our new fave sauce and I stock up every time I go to the grocery in case they discontinue it.
Happy Halloween!
Hmmm I’m thinking baked pasta is what’s for dinner now! Nay made it sound pretty irresistible in her description.
I hope I have enough candy left for the trick or treaters…my family has used the candy bowl as a feed trough the last few days…
Oh and I’m really loving Pestilence!!
Happy Halloween!
MichelleG – is it too late to join in on the Pestilence group read and how do I find you all on GR…? 🙂
It’s my anniversary so I’m eating the most caloric thing I could think of. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy! And champagne because that’s how Frankie and Darian do it in Riders (and why I’ve been craving it)! I keep looking at the clock wondering when if it’s too early to have dinner!
Teri, here is thread for the BR

Happy Halloween!
So, it’s supposed to be 77 degrees today, but currently, it’s COLD. And tonight for Trick or Treating? COLD. lol Is anyone dressing up for Halloween? I’m going as a fantasy peasant, but with tennis shoes, because I will be walking and want to be comfy.
Hi everyone!! Just in case I’m quiet, it’s ’cause I’m reorganizing the blog in the background. It’s time for a proper overhaul and making navigation of the site easier. 🙂
Let me know if you guys have any suggestions of stuff you wish you could access easier. 😀
Teri, I’m sorry I just saw your post. It’s definitely not too late. We have people at various stages of the book so come on over and join in! Thanks Leslie for posting the thread!
Before we moved to the country, we had about 500 trick or treaters every year (I counted), but now we have ZERO. I don’t miss answering the door, but I do miss having the music playing while the fog machine runs and dressed-up hubs sits on the front porch scaring the crap out of everyone, and since my boys are too old to trick-or-treat, I definitely miss the candy.
Happy anniversary, Robin! Did y’all have a ‘theme wedding’??
Yes! We did the Camelot thing and got married at the Excalibur in Vegas.
So cool!
Happy Anniversary Robin!!
YAY!!!! Happy Anniversary Robin!!! 😀
Seeing how you all love this lately.

Definitely not too late, Teri. Gah, it’s been a day. I, myself, haven’t gotten beyond 2% because life has yet again decided to jump head long into my way. So please, join in!
Also, last call for the challenge reads for November, tomorrow will be the drawings for pick for me and the All-time-fave honoree of the month.
Happy anniversary, Robin!❤
My FLT is naughty, so bear with me LOL:
“Effing male chicken tease.” 😀 Too Good Girl by Eleanor Lloyd-Jones, and OMG I’M LOVING IT!!! It’s a little dark and gritty and man, can she write dark and gritty! I’m reading an ARC but it releases on the 14th. Soooo good!
And thanks for the anniversary wishes! We had a blast drinking champagne and jamming to my Halloween mix last night!
Hope you had a great anniversary Robin!
FLT: They say that everyone has a talent. Some people can sing, some can draw, and some can eat heaping piles of pasta and not gain a single pound. I don’t possess any of those qualities. My wide ass is a testament to the last.
(What About Us by Sidney Halston)
I know, I know…. more than one line, but I felt I had to include the whole paragraph!!!
I just finished a book where the characters were great and the plot was fun, but the editing! OMG! There were sentences I had to re-read to figure out what it was supposed to be. Stephen by Hazel Gower. It’s a bummer because the story and characters were so rich, but
‘I to bet a twenty as soon as he gets in he will either putt his shirt o her…’ No. I did not misspell the word putt on accident. *sighs* I so want to fix it so more people will love the story.
FLT: “There are no facts, only interpretations.” (Fearless by Lauren Gilley)
To all of you who kept telling me to read this…I’m FINALLY reading it…and I love it so far. Of course I’m only on page 45…but I’m already hooked.
I want to second R’s comments above regarding Too Good Girl by Eleanor Lloyd-Jones. I read an ARC of it as well and it is really good. R’s “dark and gritty” description is spot on because she doesn’t shy away from writing about difficult topics. It’s a good one!
I’ve been really sick and by that I mean too sick to even keep my eyes open to read…I am feeling better today so I am trying to finish this book that I feel like I’ve been reading for a month. I love the book it’s just pain from migraines is unbearable making it impossible for me to read. I am only at 40%.
FLT:
“NO Heart”, I whispered into my coat collar.
The Butterfly Project-Emma Scott!
Also I know I’m late but:
Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween
Happy Anniversary R 🙂
FLT
“I bit down on my bottom lip as Caden gazed up at me with a smirk.” ~ Sift by LD Davis
Written by the author of one of my all-time favorite angsty reads, Accidentally on Purpose. And this one is supposed to turn into a love triangle as well, so yay me! 😀
I get it about reading a book that is GREAT and you want others to experience it, but the editing is sooooo bad.
I can overlook bad editing if the writing itself and the plot are enough to make up for it. For example, Erica Stevens books (the Captive series *SIGH*). Her series have that old school indie PNR/UF feel from years ago that I love, but the editing (at least when I read them) was not good at all. Even so, I loved the books enough that the typos didn’t matter.
Sift has typos as well, but I don’t even care because the writing makes up for it. 😉
Belated happy anniversary, R!
Jan there are a few nice looking HRs on here. A house party is always fun. And WWII is a different pace.

I just bought 2 new fantasy romances that look interesting .
Grim Lovelies and Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox.
FLT:
“Nellie couldn’t say what woke her.”
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks
Book #2 of the GR choice award noms. I hope to get in at least one more in the next 3 days. I’m thinking maybe The Cruel Prince–just worried it’s too YA for me.
NAY I LOVED THAT ONE!!!!
Then I lent my copy to my sister, who then handed it to my aunt, who then handed it to my mom.
They all loved it too!!!! 😀
Amy, exactly! Even with the really bad typos, I want to read the next book. They are series with a different couple each book, but the first book was so good.
FLT:
Let me tell you a story.
‘Til Death by Bella Jewel
It was recommended under a bunch of bully books, so… I HAVE to give it a try. Especially because I had it already and it was free!
FLT: The woman sitting across the table was so small another of her could have sat beside her in the same chair.
From Someday, the new CR from Susan Fanetti. I’m liking it and I think I might go back and read book 1 LOL. This one’s about a female lawyer in Idaho and a sexy charming manwhore cowboy kinda guy (who I hope is going to reform his ways) who against both of their wills fall deeply in love. Enemies-to-lovers kinda thing going on but they just can’t fight it. Both slightly older protags too which I like.
bev thanks for the link. I’ve read some in that Mary Balogh series and I like the look of that one. (Someone to Trust) Blurb is good. Older woman-younger man, though. But it could work.
Jan, that book sounds good! I gotta check it out.
Yay! Thanks for letting me know, Maryse! I’m finally getting ready to start it now.
