HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!! Which is on a Monday… which makes me wonder if today is really a Monday, and maybe we all have the day off and we don’t even know it? Wishful thinking? *sigh 😉 Okay now… time for fun!!
THREE THINGS:
1.) I spent the last few days tagging more categories on the blog (and past blog posts and reviews) for the “What are you in the mood to read” list. I love organizing. Even blog posts. 😛 Here are a few that I’ve been working on and adding to:
- Broken Heroes
- Characters with a Disability or
- Characters with a Mental Health Condition
- Characters with amnesia
- Homeless
- What to read after…?
2.) I don’t know if I told you yet, but I’m HOOKED on these “noodles” (I buy these for $2.99 a package at Publix – so the Amazon price is actually a bit better). Being “Keto” means no noodles ever which hurst my feelings. 😉 But because of these, it’s like I can eat pasta again (although I haven’t used them with actual spaghetti sauce yet – only zoodles with that so far). BUT I DO use these in asian dishes and in soups (like a hearty homemade ramen) ’cause the noodles make me think of ramen noodles. SO GOOOOOD!! I’m happy!
3.) I’m drinking coffee with my beloved “sugar” (again, no real sugar on Keto – but this stuff is pretty great!!). I wish they could make a flavored creamer with this “sugar” in it, too. But good old half and half and a teaspoon or two of this in my coffee and I’m satisfied. 😀 P.S. still working on today’s list and will be adding more throughout the day, so me know if I missed one. 🙂

Good morning and happy April fools. 🙂
Good morning Leslie!!! Did you decide on anything to read?
I just finished The Storyteller’s Secret by Sejal Badani, and it was soooo good!! I had seen it for some time but didn’t think it was a story that would interest me. After being in a bit of a book funk, and the fact that it has over 5,000 five star reviews, I decided to give it a try. It begins with Jaya having her third miscarriage. She decides to travel to India after learning her grandfather, whom she’s never met, is dying. There she meets Ravi, a servant of her grandparents and learns the story of her grandmother and gives her a new understanding of her mother. It is a beautiful story filled with love and heartbreak. Tissues are definitely needed, and it takes a lot to make me cry, and it is KU!!
OMG I’m looking it up right now Mona!!!!! Thank you!!! 😀
The Girl He Used to Know comes out tomorrow…YAY!!! I’ve been impatiently waiting for this one. 😀
I finally jumped back into The Work Wife, and I am sooooo happy to have found a book that’s working for me! Lately it seems everything I pick up has annoyed me in some way, and I end up struggling to finish it or just skimming (The Gift of You gets the award though…skimmed it in less than 5 minutes when I saw it was all poetry *sigh*).
I swear, maybe I’m being TOO finicky because this is what annoys me and what I keep finding in everything I pick up lately:
– the h has a friend who is obnoxious so the conversations are obnoxious, and instead of seeming fun they are just drawn out and ANNOYING
– the author tries too hard to write the h as “quirky” (and a quirky h annoys me)
– the H stares repeatedly stares intensely at the h (like, WAY too often…this doesn’t work for me anymore) and all I can see is this:
– TOO MUCH INTERNAL MONOLOGUE! *huffs* Annoying.
See?!? I’m so freaking finicky and easily annoyed lately. 🙄
*snuggles Amy*
I’m right there with you. I have my hiccups on some books too… for me it’s when the humor is over-the-top and cringe-worthy instead of that natural feel of hilariousness.
Good Morning!
Oh, speaking of what to read after, how about What to read after A Court of Thorn and Roses. 🙂 I’m always looking for that type of book.
1. The power went out this morning at around 4:30am.
2. This meant no sound in the house and I could hear little dude’s sound machine playing the same repetitive drum. I stopped that sound so fast!
3. Got Stygian by Sherrilyn Kenyon from the library. Loving it, but it has a trope she does a little too often that seems pointless at the point I’m at.
I’m on it Tessa! 😀
Amy! Is that dude’s neck broken? CREEPY!
OH! I was so busy ranting (sorry!) I forgot to gush over The Work Wife. I’m really, really, REALLY enjoying it! So much so that I can forgive getting the H’s POV every couple of chapters. I didn’t want to know if her feelings were unrequited or not and if his relationship with his fiancée is perfect or not (because not knowing is FUN) but I’m liking this one SO much, I don’t even mind seeing things from his side.
Ladies! This is a good one!! 😀
YAYYYYY AMY!!!! I’m excited when you’re loving a book. Means I will too. 😀
Tessa, right?? Creeeeeeepy. But seriously, that’s what I see lately when I read about the H staring intensely at the h. *giggle*
Did you get your power back yet?
Yeah. It came back on at about 7:30am. So dude got to get ready for school in the dark. He did NOT like that. lol AND! No coffee until 7:30am, and I’ve been awake since a little after 5am. (Due to boom, boom boom, boom… repeat… *goes insane*)
Ugh I hate getting ready with no electricity. And it’s even more frustrating because my garage door won’t open until I get on a ladder and unhook it and manually open and close it.
ROAR! *snort* 😛
OMG that would have driven me nuts, LOL!
Exactly, Maryse! If you guys say a book is funny, I’m going to believe it and give it a shot. But when the book describes itself as “laugh-out-loud funny” it usually ends up being over-the-top ridiculous. ANNOYING.
I know I’m in rare form today so I apologize, but I have another gripe…books that are endorsed by Reese Witherspoon. ARGH! It’s the equivalent of an Oprah rec. I don’t care if they liked it, and putting it in the blurb is NOT going to make me buy it. In fact, I’ll probably skip it!
Okay, I need to go for a run and get all this negativity out of my system…
*prepares a dirty martini for Amy*
*takes a sip*
*pours more in* 😉
Amy, I agree with you about the Reese Witherspoon endorsement of books. I could care less what celebrity likes a book. I only care about the opinions of my “book tribe” – – real people with real opinions. That said, I have liked at least two books “in spite” of her endorsement…”Where the Crawdads Sing” (I think I read it before she did) and “Daisy Jones & the Six (don’t worry…I won’t gush yet again).
I finished The Last Romantics by Tara Conklin over the weekend. I gave it 5 stars. I just thought it was a beautiful – yet often heartbreaking story that spanned the lifetime of four siblings. Everyone may not connect with it…but I absolutely adored it. It was a pleasant surprise for me. I assumed I would like it when I started the book but I definitely did not expect to love it. *sigh*
Lol – meanwhile Maryse is tending bar up there. I love it!!
*prepares a dirty martini for Michele G*
Oh oh… it’s turning out to be a fun Monday. 😉
Woo-hoo!! It’s happy hour and Maryse is bartending!!!
*chugs extra-strong dirty martini*
Well Michele G, we love TJR around here so DJATS never needed Witherspoon’s endorsement. TJR stands on her own merit. 😉
I’m more irritated that life won’t let me read any darn books in a decent manner of time. GR is depressing sometimes when I see everyone finishing 3+ books and I’m stuck over here trying to get past halfway in my 1 three weeks later. By then I forget all the ones everyone raves about that I also wanted to jump into, but couldn’t yet. J’s in a nonstop whining stage thing that’s been going on for maybe a week, but especially bad the last few days. I have a constant headache from it. I wish I could blame in all on teething, but I have a 4 year old and 9 year old who also whine so I think it’s in the blood. Hahahah
Anyway, in case you didn’t catch it, I finished Where the Forest Meets the Stars and loved it! I also cast Amy as Tabby, in case you missed that also. No annoyance in hero or heroine. Just a lovely read. Ursa was the star, but I loved Gabe too. And Jo. There are so many little issues I have with descriptions or sappyness or immaturity or dragging or whatever, that this book didn’t have for me. It was refreshing.
It’s a bit early here for dirty martinis. I’ll take one later in the day thanks Maryse. *sips morning coffee* Good morning everyone (or evening LOL).
Amy that gif is creepy! It came up really big on my laptop screen and I nearly choked on my coffee LOL.
Maryse, I preordered My One and Only Duke and expected it to arrive on my kindle this morning (it’s April 2nd here already) but it’s been postponed till April 30th, in Australia at least 🙁 Le sigh. Oh well, it happens. *sips more coffee*
Anyone wanna do best read of March? Mine was Soul’s Fire by Susan Fanetti. It’s been around for a while, but I just read it. Cool Viking HR. Beautiful love story with a hot English prince and a kicka$$ Viking shieldmaiden.
Best CR for March was a tossup between The Something About Her and Team Player. I liked ’em both.
*slides two martinis down to Jan… so she can catch up ;)*
Been reading your blog for a while now and it has helped me find some awesome books to read. Not sure if this is were I ask but I need help finding a book I’ve been looking for. About a boy whose father kidnaps a young girl I’m assuming she escapes because later in the book the boy ends up kidnapping her. I only read the summary and that is all I can remember. Hope someone can help because this is driving me crazy!!
I’ll post your question this week Alicia! 🙂 I’ll email you again with the link once it’s live.
Good afternoon! Taking a break from ROTS… (what an unfortunate acronym, Robin!)
I’m laughing about the R. Witherspoon thing. I was *just* looking at her recs on Saturday and noticing that we loved them without even needing an endorsement. That stuff drives me crazy too and will never make me want to read a book. They’re just people, people!
Although I have to admit that R.W. does seem funny and sweet, and I have a hold on her book, “Whiskey in a Teacup: What Growing Up in the South Taught Me About Life, Love & Baking Biscuits”, at the library (since she grew up in Nashville, I’m interested to read what she has to say).
And I’ll take a drink too before I dive back in. If you have any of those bleu cheese stuffed olives to add, that would be wonderful!
*slides two SUPER-dirty martinis to Nay*
*I’m a little tipsy and pouring an extra shot of dirty by now with the extra shot of vodka*
😉
No question about it, my favorite book for March (and another that will be on my favorites list this year) was The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Gah! What a powerful book! And I think listening to the audio book made it even better.
Just so you know!! I really loved FORCED OF NATURE by S.L. Scott!!
Tasha–I was looking for free audio books this morning (to put on my pick-for-me list this month), and I noticed Where the Forest Meets the Stars and then squirreled to another book and never put it on my list, so thanks for mentioning it.
So for anyone who gets Where the Forest Meets the Stars free with KU, the audio book is also free.
I also found a deal on What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon–when you get it free with KU, the audio book is only $1.99.
Tasha, don’t get discouraged!! When my kiddos were younger, I was lucky to get 5 books read a year. Remember all of mine are college age now…so I have all the time in the world…it’s the money that’s flowing out the door 😮 I think you’re doing great considering the fact that you have youngsters at home!
Nay, did I see you mention blue cheese stuffed olives in that dirty martini…yes girl!! I’m in for that little delicacy too!!
Fave read for March…it would be Daisy Jones…but I technically read that in January. So, it’s going to have to be a tie between… Hollywood Dirt which is an oldie (cause it sat on my TBR for a long while) and The Last Romantics which is a newbie…loved them both and they were totally different books!
I just love coming on here and reading everyone’s comments!! It always makes me smile. Amy, I am feeling you…everything I read is driving me crazy. Sadly, I haven’t loved anything in MONTHS.
Just be mindful that it’s not romance. But, it does have a little something. It’s mostly about love for a child.
I know it’s the littles and I know I could potentially have more time in 10 years, but by then there’ll be 400 new ones out and I still wanna read the 400 I need to read now! Also, the world is ridiculously fast paced now. Who knows what it’ll be like then? I’m a worrier, see? I don’t get near as excited when a new release comes out anymore because I know I’m not going to get to it in a looong time. On to positive- March best was Where the Forest Meets the Stars for fiction/a little romance/feels and Fantasticland for horror/thriller/shock value cuz it tricked me into thinking it was real. Lol
*raises hand* two olives, no vermouth, please.
I’m not complaining because OMG she deserves them (and maybe a new car and a pony), but did you just give my martinis to Nay? Not to brag, but I’m having a spectacular pre-release nervous breakdown over here! 😀
*raises hand*
A wee bit tipsy here as well. Off tomorrow and feel like drinking.
*snags one of Nay’s drinks*
*shrugs*
Sorry Nay. I owe you a drink now.
*raises super-dirty martini in cheers*
Ok crap. Nay did order a martini. Probably should try to swipe hers. *whistles and walks away*
What’s a little martini swapping among friends? 😛
By the way, peach raspberry Grand Mariner is the shit.
Uh oh, I didn’t censor. Sorry Maryse.
Okay, so Work Wife is good but has typos. Which isn’t a big deal because I’m enjoying the story but trying to read with typos while tipsy is screwing with my head.
Amy–I just finished a proofread on TWW a few days ago. Maybe you can download it again and you’ll get the new one (if you want)?
For a minute there, I thought I was going to end up with NO martinis!
Enjoy one of mine, Amy, since Maryse was nice enough to give me two! Thanks, Maryse!
*passes Nay bottle of Tito’s*
*shoves Tito’s out of the way*
*pushes peach raspberry grand marnier to Nay*
Yeah. That.
Wow I’m sloshed. I like autocorrect right now. It’s mt friend.
Michele–OMG I could eat bleu cheese stuffed olives until I’m sick. I’ve only just been able to start to eating olives or bleu cheese again with those pesky 15 years that I couldn’t have salt. But yay me! I’m actually using the salt shaker again! (in moderation, of course)
Mt friend?
Maybe not.
LOL, Amy!
My sanity thanks you…..
*hugs Alicia*
😀
*takes a martini in each hand* Thanks Maryse 😀
