You GUYS!!! I may have found a sweet-super-sexy (yet angsty!!) romance gem! It’s called Starting Fires and it’s a brand new release that I totally missed last week, and I just started it last night. GAH! It’s good!!!
Over 450 pages, and I’m already halfway through and loving it, and yes… while I *can* put it down, I can also say I’m very much involved in this couple… or should I say “potential” couple’s romantically angsty love story.
I heard about it from the author directly. Not a reader recommendation, not a highly anticipated release, not a blog tour book, no reviews or anything! Just pure reading luck (so far!). Reminds me of my “olden days” when I discovered my love for indie books.
So anyway… she emailed me to let me know it was a new release (her first book in fact!) and when I read that book title, saw that cover and read the blurb,
I was strong enough.
My resolve was high.
My walls were higher.
He was heartache incarnate.
I knew this, but didn’t stay away.
We pushed and pulled, keeping one another at arms length.
But then something changed.
Something started.
And neither of us were prepared for it.
*whoo!!* There was just something about that, that promised me heartache (and butterflies!) and I just knew I had to one-click it.
Yep! I purchased it myself, and so far? I’m SO glad I did. It’s not “crazy” or anything but the writing is great, the internal dialogue is realistic, the characters are nicely “fleshed out”, the story is progressing at a believable pace, plenty of detail, day to day life, conversations, interactions… entourage. Everyone is there, and everyone is LIVING. And I’m “living” with them.
And since it appears to be completely from her POV, I’m extra nervous ’cause I have no idea what he’s up to half the time. Who’s he with? Why didn’t he call her? Who’s that girl on his lap? You know? I’m so nervous about her “player” neighbor that she’s trying desperately not to fall for (and that EVERYONE keeps warning her not to get too attached too)… but you know how that goes. OUCH! I hope. 😉 So far, already a few ouchies.
So off I go to continue my book. I’ll let y’all know.
P.S. He owns a bar, sings in a band, she’s starting over in a new town due to previous heartbreak… they’re neighbors. You know the drill. Sure it sounds like a theme we’ve read plenty of times before, but it’s just SO good anyway. So far, it has it’s own feel.
