Yep. It’s true. Our beloved book-crew member bev, hasn’t read in weeks. She’s in a book-funk. How could this be???
bev: Just in a massive slump. *shrug* We need to try and get everyone together for an epic br before the year ends. Where is Fabi? MichelleS? What’s coming down the line we can all jump into blind? Roll the dice?
Kooloo: …for those who are struggling in Book Slump-Land why not take a break from your regularly scheduled genres *gasps and booing from the audience* Now now just wait hear me before you condemn me! Lol. I’m telling you from experience it makes you appreciate what you love about reading even more. TRUST Me So where does one start well why not try what I call “The Jason Bourne-like genre” and my personal favourite
*trumpets blast* “Orphan X” by Gregg Hurwitz You can thank me later
bev: Lol. I do do that sometimes to get out of a slump. In fact have read that book. And the first, and maybe the second?, Bourne book by Ludlum. All good reads. I have a few whispering to me…..so we will see.
I’m in!!! Weren’t we supposed to buddy-read There’s Someone Inside Your House?? This is the perfect month for that!! 😀
But bev’s book-funk is so… off the wall for me, right now. She’s ALWAYS one of our biggest book finders and she has excellent book taste (tends towards the deep and emotive) and ALWAYS finds us sharp, emotional, poignant (and sometimes hilarious) treasures. Just to give you an idea of bev’s reading style: Reader Favorites – bev’s Top Fourteen Reads for 2015
But I get it. bev, it happens to all of us. It’s why I’ve branched out so much in the last year or so, into other genres that still have that “love-story” aspect, but that explore all sorts of other kinds of thrills, too.
Okay so, maybe we can lend bev a hand? It’s a hard decision because every book she’s trying to choose from sounds AWESOME.
She asks:
bev: Hey, you ladies want to hello? Books I’m thinking of trying to read this week……one, I’ll choose one. Want to help me choose?
1. The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle.
2. Under a Sardinian Sky by Sara Alexander.
3.Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore.
4. Roses and Rot by Kat Howard
5. What the Librarian Did by Karina Bliss
Or a re read of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
Whatever it is I am giving myself the week to read it.Maryse: bev… now I have to look up each one of those books!! Mostly all of ’em are new to me. Although… more treasures to discover so I’m into the research!
Leslie: Bev, What the Librarian Did. That cover!! Hee hee
Tasha: Wild Beauty
Maryse: First: If I can remember correctly, I read the Librarian one back in 2011 and liked it. I remember the feel of it, for the most part, anyway. For some reason I don’t have a review? And second: Okay ALL of these sound awesome!!!!!
I mean… I can’t choose. Right off bat, The Accident Season had me (that whole “accidents“… and the way it hinted at not what they’d be expecting!!!), but Sardinian Sky has that forbidden love aspect…. Roses and Rot sounds all sorts of abusive, and then of course Wild Beauty with that love-curse… and that mysterious boy.
AHHHHH ALL SOUND EXACTLY like what I’d love. *sigh* WHICH ONE????? I’m going with Sardinian Sky for the angsty aspect. But they all sound loaded in angst-potential.
!!!!
Kooloo: Bev, Roses and Rot has my vote! BUT that Librarian book definitely win for best cover!!!!
See???? Even in her book-funk, she still finds us awesome-sounding books.
So what do you guys think? Which one should bev read next to get her back in reading mode?

Sue is looking for this one! It sounds familiar to me, like something I may have read about three years ago… but I can’t put my finger on it. That said, I’m sure someone here can! 😀
