Rebecca needs our book help and OMG this one sounds awesomely romantically angsty and infuriating (eeeep!! He’s a sports star & cheats on her!!!) and there’s more.
She asks:
Maryse,
Hi! I have been searching for a book I read probably 1-2 years ago. I would categorize it as a second chance sports romance. Here’s where things get vague…I remember some things for sure but other details I’m a little fuzzy on and I know this category is HUGE.
I believe the H played football professionally (but he might have been a professional baseball or hockey player…I know I’m really narrowing it down here). The H and the h dated in college (possibly high school too) and broke up after he went pro.
I cannot remember if they were married but I think they were at least engaged. H cheated on the h ending the relationship.
They had a child, I believe it was a son (I think under 10). I don’t think it was a secret baby situation but more of a H not really involved situation (but I could be wrong).
I believe H is traded back to where the h lives. I remember they lived near a beach and I am thinking the setting was the west coast. h maintained friendships with many of the other athletes and their wives from the local team. I think their first encounter after he moves back is at a party thrown by these mutual friends.
I know with these sketchy details but just hoping this was familiar to someone as it is driving me crazy. Thanks!
Rebecca
EXTRA INFO ADD-ON: I don’t think the child was a secret. I remember the h living in the same area as several of the players/wives and being friends with them even after H left. It felt like the book may be part of a series with the other couples involved but I didn’t read the other books. I think the h may have been dating someone as well.
Anyone have a guess? Let’s make a list!
bev: The only sports cheating book I know is older than a couple years and I can not remember the name. I do remember that he was a baseball player and that it made Amy SO mad. Like she still gets mad of you bring it up, lol. How we discovered Amy does not like a cheating H.
Maryse: LOL I remember that one! It’s from years ago back in our early indie-days from J. Sterling and called The Perfect Game: A Novel (The Game Book 1) and it infuriated me too back then. Hrmm… it could very well BE that book. I’m adding it. 😀 P.S. Here’s my Book Review.
Michelle: Sounds like it could be Trying to Score: An Assassins Novel (The Assassins Series Book 2) by Toni Aleo.
Rebecca: It’s not either of those although Trying to Score seemed close. I don’t think the child was a secret. I remember the h living in the same area as several of the players/wives and being friends with them even after H left. It felt like the book may be part of a series with the other couples involved but I didn’t read the other books. I think the h may have been dating someone as well.
LTG: I think it’s Reed’s Reckoning by Ahren Sanders
Cindi: Glad I landed here. The book Rebecca described, sounded like one I had read and wanted to read again. I have been searching for years. Whoever recommended Reed’s Reckoning is exactly the book I was searching for. Apparently I purchased it in 2014. Thank you!
Jody: This one seems familiar. I’m getting a flash of a scene. I think it was around the time I was reading Lauren Blakely and Kristen Callihan. I’ll have to see what else I read. I don’t read much football, mostly hockey..
Rebecca: I finally figured this one out. It was 27: Dropping the Gloves: An Enforcers of San Diego Novella by Mignon Mykel.
Maryse: YAY!!! I LOVE when these get solved (even if it’s the original asker that solves it!!) LOL! 😂

I just added it to the post. 🙂 Thank you LTG!!!
I found this one after sending the question. This one is also close but doesn’t feel right. Although at this point I feel like I might be combining several books together in my brain 🙂

Thank you Jody!
Thank you! It very well could be hockey. I read a ton more hockey than football as well.
