Kathy needs our book help! I don’t have a ton of bully-book experience (other than how much I enjoyed “The Paper Princess“), but I don’t think that’s the one she’s looking for.
She asks:
Hi Maryse
…looking for help finding a book I can’t remember title or author.
It was about 2 brothers, high school age who kind of bully their neighbor girl who’s also high school age. They annoy her by having pool parties because their mom I believe is a nurse and works nights.
I believe the oldest boy and the neighbor girl have a dog that they got together but he has the dog now.
Her father is, I don’t know if it’s in the military or what, but he’s gone for long periods at a time. Her mother has died. Her grandma comes over every now and again stays with her.
I cannot for the life of me think of the name of this book and was hoping that you might have any ideas. It would be under young adults high school bullies maybe.
Any help you could give I’d appreciate it
UPDATE FROM KATHY:
the girl that lived next door turned the power off his place to end his party to piss him off. I think thereβs chemistry between the oldest brother and her.
His dog came into her yard and she had him until the oldest brother came and got him and he was very rude.Β I know this was under young adult maybe High School bullies
Have a guess?
Kristina: Is it Bully by Penelope Douglas?
Lisa A: Gotta be Bully.
Kathy: Noβ¦..the girl that lived next door turned the power off his place to end his party to piss him off. Mony:Β I think Kristinaβs answer of Bully by Penelope Douglas is correct. Excerpt:
Heroine:
βIf it wasnβt the loud music or the constant arrival and departure of muscle cars with their sorry exhaust systems, then it was the shouting or laughing coming from Jaredβs yards. I liked loud music, but a party in the middle of the night that was keeping the whole neighborhood awake should be shut downβ¦Taking several glances in all directions to make sure I had arrived unnoticed, I jogged up the side of Jaredβs house to the circuit breaker. Iβd spent enough time at his house as a kid to be able to find it in the dark.
I slid the bolt cutter out of my thin sleeve and clamped both handles down with all of my strength on the padlock securing the panel. As soon as Iβd shoved the old padlock into my pocket, I opened the panel door and began flipping switches.
I tried not to register what was happening around the house, the sudden loss of music and light, and the cacophony of What the f*ck? coming from everywhere. I finished flipping switches, took the new padlock out of my sweater, and secured it to the closed panel.β
Maryse: I thought her description sounded familiar. I loved Bully but read it so many years ago that I couldnβt pinpoint the sceneβ¦ in fact here’s my Book Review!! π
Mony: Yup
Kathy: Thank you so much
